Speaker 2 (00:08):
Hey, welcome to the show. I'm your chief guitar and
structor Miles, and today we're going back to the basics
and covering a foundational concept in guitar theory, the musical alphabet.
And you would not believe how many guitar players and
young aspiring musicians actually don't know the musical alphabet. Yeah,
so let's go back to basics, and we'll start by

(00:32):
talking about twelve notes. So there are twelve total notes
in the musical alphabet in western harmony, and you have
seven natural notes cdefgab, and then you have accidental notes,
which is like C SHARPD sharp, F sharp, G sharp,
and A sharp. So a natural note has no sharp

(00:55):
or flat. And we already covered the seven from C
to B. And the reason that we cover the natural
notes starting from C is because when you go through
all seven natural notes C, D, E, F, G, A, B,
so all seven natural notes starting from C, you create
the C major scale, which is often considered the mother
of all major scales because it's the only major scale

(01:19):
whose notes are all natural and then the accidental notes
are notes that have a sharp or flat, such as
G sharp or B flat. Accidentals appear between natural notes.
There are only two notes without a sharp, and that's
B an E. This means that there's only one half

(01:40):
step between them and the next natural note. You can
notice this when you look at a piano and see
that there's no black piano key between B and C
or between E and F. And that's it. And you
can find the show notes in the description below and
I hope catch you in the next episode of the

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
