Welcome to the Guitar Jet Podcast, where you'll skyrocket your knowledge of theory,
techniques, and fundamentals for guitar.Hey, welcome to the Guitar Jet Podcast.
I'm your guitar teacher and host,Miles Halter, and I thought i'd
let you know about my experience andhistory as a guitarist. If you have
any questions for me, you canask them on my website guitar jet dot

(00:21):
com or in my Facebook group, the Guitar Technique Society. I started learning
guitar at the ripe age of eightyears old. I had an older guitar
teacher named Ola, and I wasplaced in a group setting with four other
kids. The five of us allgot the same half sized classical guitar start
our journeys, the Yamaha CGS oneO two. I still have that guitar
and I play it almost every day. Fast forward to me being fourteen years

(00:45):
old, which is when I gotan electric guitar and guitar amplifier for Christmas.
Specifically, I got a Squire stratocasterand a Fender Mustang two amp.
That amplifier introduced me to the manydifferent effects you can use on electric guitar,
which certainly inspired me to pick upmy instrument and practice it, at
least when I first got it.For about a year after that, I

(01:06):
actually took a brief guitar break.I just wasn't feeling it. But then
I discovered something that changed my life. Drop D tuning. You see,
I'm a big fan of the bandTool, and naturally, like every Tool
fan that plays guitar, I wantedto learn how to play Vicarious and Ladderalis.
So I hopped on YouTube and lookedup how to play these songs and
learned right away that they are allcomposed using drop D tuning. So because

(01:29):
of Tool and their use of dropD tuning, I was inspired to start
playing the electric guitar every day,and I've played guitar almost every day since
then. Now let's talk a bitmore about my learning experience from age sixteen
to eighteen. Since I was divingdeep into guitar, I knew that I
had to and wanted to learn moreabout famous and influential guitar players. So

(01:51):
I googled who the best guitar playerswere at the time, and I found
some incredible lists. Through these lists, I just coverged guitar players like Steve
Vaie, Gary Moore, John Pertrucci, Buckethead, Guthrie Govin, and Sean
Lane. And if you're wondering,I had already discovered the really famous guitar
players like Eddie Van Halen, JoseAftrioni, Jimmy Hendricks and Slash through listening

(02:12):
to rock music and playing guitar heroA few months before I turned nineteen,
I started teaching guitar. Since then, I've taught a plthrow of students,
learned from some incredible guitar teachers, studied lots of guitar greats, have had
over ten thousand people read my contenton Google, and I've played guitar with
lots of great friends, musicians andbands. And that is all I'll leave

(02:34):
you with for today. Thanks forlistening, and please subscribe to the Guitar

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
