Speaker 1 (00:00):
Julie picked up her general and immediately following her test,
what'd she do on the air? Nice cigar? This cigar
is for you.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
You're listening to the Ham Radio Clubhouse podcast, a weekly
show that's live on YouTube every Tuesday night the seven
o'clock Central Time. We look forward to you joining us live,
but until then, enjoy this week's episode. Thanks for joining
us here in the Clubhouse.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
What is going on? Somebody is a plan?
Speaker 3 (00:36):
What's up?
Speaker 1 (00:37):
All right?
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (00:38):
How much of a delay is that a little bit?
A little bit? Because forty five made a comment? All right,
forty you know how forty five is? Oh, they're all
in there talking trash, those of you in green text.
We really appreciate the membership though, so shout out to
our channel members there. Hey man, big shot out to
(01:01):
read who I worked in?
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Poda?
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Man reads reads the man there from from uh from
the Atlantic States.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
There was he in Maryland, I think or Virginia.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
He was in Kentucky the other day and get run
off by the police department. But yes, they let him
finish out his activation. So that was mighty cool of him.
I did see that on the rare times I'm on
the post read you rock man, thank you, and so
many others. I'd love it when I'm working at PODA
and everyone's like, yo is, oh, thank you, you know,
(01:32):
clubhouse man, thank you. We we love it on the
on the airways when you guys are saying clubhouse so
thank you.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
So absolutely. And I need to get my antenta, at
least an antenna back up here at the house so
I can start hunting people. And I missed a awesome
opportunity last night. What happened? Well, we have somebody that's
no longer a rare entity.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Oh, I was just gonna ask you about her.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Julie picked up her general and immediately following her test,
what'd she do on the air nice? So this cigar,
this cigar is for you, girl, This is for you.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
Nice job. Nice job. That's for anyone who goes out.
She rocked.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
She was worried about it, but she rocked it. And
her upgrade is showing in the uls already. So so
now what's vae Vaughan's already a general. Vaughan's already a
general there, so she no longer needs him. She doesn't
need him, man, She could just go out and do
her own thing. Hey, Vaughan, you're like leftovers now. I
know what it feels like. You're done. Man, he still
(02:47):
won him radio. I don't care what anyway.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
I'm only kid wh would have won. I love that.
I love They're all good people, man, They're very good people.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
They're out there promoting our hobby. They they, along with
many others, are the aids of our hobby of getting
on the air. How many times have we said that,
just get just do your own thing, walk in your
own shoes. And they do that along with so many
other people. So thank you. Yep. Well, and they were
out this weekend and they use the flatlanders in fed
(03:18):
which they absolutely love. But it was held up by
a kite instead of a regular mast.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
No kidding that. They're on the beach, you know. I'm like,
you ever do that, Mike? No, No, I've thought about it.
I've seen so you done some funky stuff.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
Yeah, I've thought about it.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
I think that that'd be neat to do. Put it
on your list. But uh yeah, So.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
I definitely want to do a kite activation at some point,
and I got the beach here to do it from,
so I just got to get out there early because
that beach on the weekend is absolutely atrocious. So has
it started yet or is it like one of those
Memorial Day to Labor Day kind of thing. No, no, no,
it's it started. It's almost year round here. Matter of fact, Vaughn,
(04:08):
Julie and I were on that beach the Friday after Thanksgiving.
Oh man, I gotta turned my light on. I just
realized that it's all dark. I'm like, why am I
so dark? I mean, I mean, listen, this face is
so ugly it should be dark in here. But I
will say we did freeze out there on that beach though, Yeah,
(04:29):
but it was worth it, so we had fun. So, don,
what's going on with you besides forgetting to turn on light? Hey,
this is mostly for my monitors. Get my light turned
way down. Let's see what's going on. The contractor finished
(04:49):
the house. The house looks very nice. All the rooms
are done. Maggie's coming home next week, so she'll have
a brand new bedroom. Time for me to come back
up and visit. Yeah yeah, uh And it's actually if
I ever wanted to turn that room into the hamshack.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
M hmm.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
There you go.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
So this guy did really really nice.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
What else going I had fun this weekend. On Saturday,
it was raining on and off, and of course one
of those things where every time you get to you know,
it's not raining while you're driving, then when you get
to the park it starts to pouring rain. But I said,
I'm gonna do something simple. I pushed myself and this
is hard for a guy like me who carries everything
(05:35):
with him and sometimes twosy three z's. I said, I'm
going to the park with the eight ninety one bional
battery and the athas there you go, and the iPad. Yep,
I am not bringing paper, so when I get if
(05:56):
I get a pile up going, I'm gonna start using
my head here. But I did cheat because I bought
something from from Dunkin Donuts. I ended up using the receipt.
But uh, I remember paper with me, yes, but I
did things differently now. I always have my space pen
with me all the time. So but I said, I'm
(06:16):
going to see what it's like to downgrade myself and
can I teach myself?
Speaker 3 (06:22):
You can do it, m hm. So let me bring
up this pier.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Well that's you know. I try to see how small
I can make my kit because I have to fly
with mine.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
Good point.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
And there's talk I don't know how true it's gonna come,
but there's talk about me going to Yakuska, Japan.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
Oh wow, really, I'm.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Already I'm already looking at photo parks and I'm going
to try to get the company to pay for the reciprocity. Yeah, oh,
limited on power over there. Let me just I think
it might be easier for me to to take this
picture and download it to my to my desktop. I'm
sorry I did not come prepared tonight, Mike. How about you?
Speaker 4 (07:11):
Yeah, it's a it's it's a crazy busy time for me.
It's a it's I got two boys and and uh
it's a one time of year that they're both in sports,
and in fact, one of them is in two different
sports right now. So it's like we're getting pulled like
every which way but the right way. Like I'm it's
like who am I driving to where?
Speaker 3 (07:31):
And when? Glorified uber driver? Yeah, but that's right. And
it starts Thursday.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
Soccer practice goes outside and it is at a PoTA park,
So soccer practices will be at Poda and I'm actually
gonna take advantage of it. This weekend on Saturday, he's
got practice and Saturday is and this is just some.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
Nerdy nerdy stuff. But what is it.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
It's the microwave. It's a microwave sprint day. So for
nine hundred Mega hurts and above, there'll be some activities.
So I'm going to bring out I got these two guys,
the two alinkos okay for twenty three and thirty three centimeters,
and they got fourteen element yaggi's for them. And so
(08:23):
I'll go hand out some points to some of the
local contesters and see if I can get see if
I can get enough contacts maybe on on you know,
twenty three and thirty three to activate.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
I don't know activate on nine hundred meg. The most I've.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Ever gotten on one point two or or or.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
Or nine hundred is like five or six.
Speaker 4 (08:46):
But uh, you know, we'll see, we'll see. These sprints
aren't very active like the contests I go out and
that's one of my things. I love doing the VHF contests,
the three big ones in January, June, in September. But
you know, this is kind of just These sprints are
more just like a practice run for a few hours.
But uh, I just bought those used in the last month,
(09:10):
so I'm really looking forward to to playing with them.
I used to borrow them from a local ham for.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
The contest the last year. But so give us a rundown.
Let's say you and I. I'm in your club or whatever.
I'm like, hey, yeah, I'll come out. You give me one,
and you give me a yaggy. You give me what
piece of feed line maybe six feet long, because we
don't want a lot of feed line here right.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Right, yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
And I was throying around doing like some of the
lost calculations because like you use them just like you know,
five six feet of rgbate x or something. And and
I was debating, if you know, I wanted to set
both yaggies up on like a mast and maybe extend
that out from six feet to I was doing calculations
(09:57):
with ten and fifteen feet. And and when you're dealing
with the higher frequencies like the loss and the the
one let's see, I think it's the seven this one
that that'll do uh one point two giga hurtz that
that's only putting out a wat. Now you're looking the
loss is a percentage, and so it's a percentage of
(10:19):
a low number, but still like if I've got a
fourteen element fourteen element yagi that could turn one wat
into fifteen watts, I want to get as much of
that one wat that'd be my time as I can.
And when I looked at like, you know, if I
extend the cable and I'm just doing something like that,
uh the loss, it's like I'm just gonna I'll just
(10:41):
stand around and operate at by hand, you know, like
I have and uh stuff. But at some point I
gotta really like look at look at cables and see
what what works. And maybe I got to just you know,
see if you know, like lm R four hundred or
something that's beef here, if that can still work for me,
or if that's going to be too rigid or something.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
Lm R has a nice flexible six hundred. Okay, I've
used it. I've used it in some public safety, but
we were only up in the four hundred and fifty
megaharts range. And again and that was low lost. That
was like I forget how much you know, I forget
what dB loss was at at one hundred feet, but
(11:24):
it met our needs and we kept everything under one
hundred anyway, we just got lucky for where things had
to get mounted. Yeah, as you know, as you know,
you're not you're not gonna be running hard line. That's
you know, that that's you know, you know, you know
by the time, well, yeah, I'll you're used to harm. Yeah,
but but eventually you're gonna need a jumper and that,
(11:46):
you know, and your connector is a loss again again.
And I like, Mike, I like what you're saying, because
some guys forget, They're like, oh, I'm gonna run a
beam at you know, four t dB in this front
to back roun. Then again you're gonna lose it somewhere else.
Mm hm.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
So you know.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
But so but my point was is were you gonna
were you planning on operating? So I guess the constant
the sprint is not for repeaters. It's just for point simple. Yeah,
have you already and you live in western New York.
It's not a flat it's not a flat terrain, correct.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
No, it is very flat compared to really yeah, because
we're right down by the lake and by Lake Ontario
and stuff, so it's pretty flat there. There's some hills,
you know, but but like the soda that I go
to often. Yeah, there's a couple that I can get
up like sixteen. Okay, I go to a soda and
(12:40):
there's a there's a park I like to go to
that will put me up about two thousand feet, but
I'm obstructed behind me. So it's only good if I'm
facing to kind of the north and the northwest, which
is hitting the density, the ham density that I want
to hit. But but it's you know, there's only so
(13:02):
much of an opening and there's a lot of vegetation.
If I go there this time of year, I really
got to worry about attenuation because and that's another thing
that's real different. When you get into the higher frequencies,
you start to get up to UHF and above, and
now you got to worry about leaves and and and
and trees and stuff like that, and and it's something
(13:23):
that you don't necessarily contend with, but when you're dealing
with line of sight communications at really high frequencies, that's
all of a sudden that that becomes an impediment.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
So when I was learning when I was learning this
stuff back in the nineties, I sat in a classroom
and they were talking about that. I'm like, really, the
leaves and the trees Conna have that much of an attenuation.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
And the engineers showed.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
Us some studies, and from that point on, I'm like that,
this is why I love the engineers.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
Take here's my design. You're now you're going to engineer
right out and wrong right right?
Speaker 1 (13:53):
And where do you know where do we gotta tweak
and this and that. So initially I thought you had
more hills to contend with, and I was going to
and I was going to guess that you would be
going up to a hill. Now you have a soda,
So what would it would it behoove you to go
to a mountain or a recognized soda and do two
(14:13):
or three you know, kill two or three birds at once.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
Now I'm going to be at a Poda park for
soccer practice during the sprint. So I'm going to I'm
going to do that. But if the weather permits, and
if I have the time, then I'll rove and I'll
go hit up another park. And I was thinking about
going to the soda site or that one PoTA park.
It's about a forty minute drive where I can get
(14:39):
up two thousand feet or so, and and I've done
twenty three and thirty three centimeters from up there before
and gotten you know, half a dozen or so contact
Have you done this.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
Now that we have all these great things of logs
being posted on a lot of the you know, previous years,
you know, QSO parties, whatever sprints, do you ever go
in and look at the data to see where people
around you participated? Not how many points you know, not
where they were necessarily in you know, first, tenth, fifteenth, twentieth, whatever,
(15:12):
but what region so you can kind of see where
are guys playing. Is there a guy ten miles from
me or one hundred miles from me? I've done that
on the two meters sprints A long long time ago.
I had I had, I had this icon all mode
and that was fun because I felt like I was
wasting just and and about six months later, I said,
(15:32):
I got to get smart about this. Yeah, got to
get smart enough.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
Not so much for the sprints, because a lot of
the sprints tend to focus on distance, and I'm not
going to be breaking any records or anything with the
hts and stuff. It's more going to be those you know,
multi element setups, and they're running transverters and they're pushing
out correc ns and tons of power. I just do
(15:56):
it to hand out points and have fun and play around.
And you know, whether it's on you know, one point
two gigahertz or two skitty or whatever, it's fun to
just go out and and use some of these disused bands,
because if we don't use them, we lose them.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Right, go ahead, go ahead.
Speaker 4 (16:12):
I want to tell you the contest that the ARL contest,
I will look at the stats and you know, the club,
our our VHF club will well, we'll have meetings before
the contests and kind of take an inventory of you know,
how many people locally have what bands available to them
and and stuff because you try to work each other
and help each other out and stuff. But but at
(16:35):
the end of the day, like I'm just doing it
because I'm having fun, and I've learned a lot from
doing it. What we were just talking about with things
like the feed lines or antenna is some of these
things are so much more different and critical when you're
dealing with VHF and above versus HF HF very very forgiven,
isn't It's very for you don't have to think twice
(16:57):
about using RG three sixteen if you're on forty meters
or eighty meters like the losses, it's you don't even
worry about it, but you know, you you get into
the higher frequencies and all of a sudden that matters.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
You get to the higher frequencies, you're not using antenna tuners.
You need to make sure you got good resident antennas.
That's another huge difference with a very small bandwidth. Yep. Yeah,
even even the chokes like the TORI. It's like I have,
you know, things labeled for different mixes for VHF versus
HF and stuff. So it's it by doing some of
(17:32):
those things that are different, it's it's helped me learn
and I think it's it makes you a better operator.
Like on both sides, whether you're in on your next car,
what's that? Oh I found car? Steve is right, look
at that. Yeah, yeah, I've seen that. That's that's sick.
That's the stealth gt I. I've seen it up close
in person.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
That thing is insane. Scott's a great guy too. Yeah,
but yeah, it's there's no room for a passenger. Nope,
it's yeah, that that that that's the thing of beauty
right there. All right, so let's so, let's play I spy. Yeah,
I think I see an athos, right you do, yep?
(18:13):
The the antenna off the hitch, uh huh? That capacity
hat is ye Is that the big tar heel?
Speaker 3 (18:24):
Maybe?
Speaker 1 (18:24):
No, that's actually a scorpion. All right, hang on, let
me make it bigger. Let me make it bigger on
my end in hand. All right, Okay, yeah, they're okay,
that's a scorpion. Interesting, that's that's the scorpion screwdriver. Now
that the halo, which one? There's two? I don't know
(18:45):
if the top one is ten meters it's hard, baby,
I can't tell if that's a six meter or a
ten meter. I think that's his ten meter okay. And
then below it looks to be a possibly a two
meter beam or a six meter beam. I want to
say it's a six and then the.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Two it's okay.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
The other then there's the other halo. I think I
see a diamond or a comment with the open coil. Yep,
I think there there's a SAT. There's a SAT antenna
there over the the little black knob on the back left,
that's actually a cell phone repeater. Okay, okay, yeah, it's Okay,
(19:37):
so everything is mounted to the roof rack.
Speaker 3 (19:40):
Nothing is is.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
Nothing has pierced the roof correct.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
Correct.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
The roof rack comes off very quickly and very easily,
like like a suction cup or because I don't see
any any guttermount Again, it's got four like gutter mounts
on it on the corners right right at the door.
You can kind of see the one there on the
back door if you look close the driver rear door.
(20:12):
He actually has a window passed through for all the
cables and they're all bundled very nicely and coastal way
Wall says I could do that. Well, yes, you get.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
Noodle, Yeah, yep, but yeah that Mike.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
But overall, though, Mike, I I do.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
Agree with you.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
It's a whole different ball game. You gotta look at
things differently. Your strategy, it's all about your strategy, right,
Your strategy is gonna be You're gonna go out And
I think you hit the nail on the head. H
F is so much more forgiven to us, and there's
nothing wrong with that. I think that's a great it's
a great plateau for us to all start get you know,
you start as you know again, if if if you're
(20:59):
a tech, play a little bit in the small portions
of sidebn CW you get your general That's where the
floodgates open up for us.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
We all know that. But I find it.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
I've always found it interesting. I know, back long, long,
long time ago. I'm talking like mid eighties, watching the
locals around here get into the sprints on Cecily, on
the two meters and the four forty and go into
certain they all had their spot on the various mountain ridges.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
But it was amazing.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
These guys were serious. You did not There was no.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
Such thing as can I hold a screwdriver? Now, get
the hell?
Speaker 1 (21:38):
You're gonna stand over there and you're gonna w and
then eventually they would bring you in.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
They just wanted to get everything up and running.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
They were. It was so intense you could feel, you know,
you could just feel the tension in the air because
they wanted to get it right so they can then
show you what they were doing. But the antennas were
just like these horns I guess it's called a horn
learn and very very there's not a lot of bandwidth.
(22:05):
And and I remember talking to Hayden one time about
this out there in VK lamp.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
You just move it just a few degrees changes everything
for you. Yep. So again, these guys are very serious
about it. Kudos to them. And it's about having fun.
This is what this hobby is, you know.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
I mean I wish there were more people down in
my area that did yeah nine hundred and above, But
I don't hear anybody talking about.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
It, and I need to build the discounts frustrating because
there isn't a lot of gear for that either, you know,
the the A linkos I was holding up earlier. I mean,
those things are Unobtainingum, I was lucky that you know,
some club members have you know, some extras that they
loan out for time and stuff. But you know, and
(22:54):
I waited for the right the right ones to buy
on the qrs and and whatnot.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
That's it's called the right flea market.
Speaker 5 (23:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
But uh yeah, I mean those those things.
Speaker 1 (23:08):
Who cares if the battery is not working, You'll always
find a battery somewhere or what. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
So I wish that there was more gear for some
of those, even something like two twenty. Right now, I'm
there's a handful of you know, cheap Chinese try bands
that'll do two twenty. They might not do it, do
it and anything else clean, but there they'll do it.
And there's some stuff. But if if you want to
get outside of FM, good luck, you know, without a transverter,
(23:38):
you know, good luck.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
I was gonna say, you're either in transfer territory or ye,
you're looking at like the Icon ninety seven hundred and
I'll get you one point two gig, but yeah, not
much else.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
Yeah, the Gifted and that'll put out ten watts. The
ninety seven hundred and put out ten watts on one
point two gigs, but so will the that was at
the nine five as well, right, so which is like, wow,
you can get that out of that little package.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
Yeah, well but with the nine oh five, Yeah, if
you're going above one point two gig.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
Mm hm.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
You know, now you're talking much you know, a different
style of cable because the radio is actually up at
the antenna and you just have the head unit right
you know, wherever you're operating, right, So there's there's more
to play with. And the price tag on that Nino
five is yeah listen what okay, okay, listen, let's let's
(24:42):
not talk about about crying yet because when if you
add up how much money you've invested into this hobby.
Speaker 3 (24:51):
Like when I met Listen, when I met Jennifer, she said.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
Oh, you have a radio.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
Yeah, I only have a radio.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
I didn't tell her. Yeah, yeah, I didn't tell her.
I have eight over here and maybe two over here,
and you know seven.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
Exactly. And if you add everything up, I don't care.
Speaker 1 (25:08):
If you bought them use new, plus all your accessories. Plus,
you bought some antennas, you bought some extra antenna's, you
bought feed line, you bought more feedline, you bought more
feed line.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
Oh I want a green color feed line. I want
to I want a yellow feed line. Listen. I think
these guys.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
I think these guys who are doing the sprints that
Mike is talking about, besides the guys who are experimenting,
the guys who have taken that deep rabbit hole dive,
are very dedicated to it. You're spending their money, God
bless them, keep their kind. And even if you're just
buying you stuff or building stuff or you know, doing
a trans a trans trans you know, and whatever it takes,
(25:53):
they're getting it done well. And I guarantee, Yeah, And
if you talk to to a lot of them.
Speaker 4 (26:03):
They'll tell you with what you can get the different
bands and can get out of something like the nine
oh five mm even though it's expensive, what it costs
to put some put a station together with those capabilities,
it's it's basically the same thing, just maybe even more expensive,
but definitely more complicated. And uh, at least give Icon
(26:25):
credit for doing that. Yeah, I think that I can
think of well, but but but again, and I envy.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
A lot of I envy a lot of these these guys.
Know why I'm jealous. I don't have that technical knowledge.
They start talking. In about ten minutes, maybe five minutes,
they've lost me, and I gotta tell them, Hey, you
gotta dumb it down for me. Dumb it down almost
as if I'm the general public, so I can I
can kind of comprehend it. And once you get me
kind of going through the motions of it, I get it.
(26:59):
You Well, I know, I knew one guy. He's passed away.
He used to love when the meteors throughout the Seaton,
throughout the twelve seasons, these guys were going after meteor
scatter and we would love to be playing radio. You
know me, I'm just looking up in the air, and
I'm trying to make a wish and this and that.
You know, when that thing is falling through the air,
these guys are chasing RF.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
With it, you know so well.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
And that's I just pulled up the nine oh five
at one of our favorite retailers. Come the nine o
five with the ten watt transceiver. So just the base
package before you give out that number, and I can't
see it. Just so you know, I can't see it.
I'm tabulating in my head. The calculator is going off
(27:44):
in my head. The cash register chink, sty how much
money I put it into my seven o five and
all the accessories with us?
Speaker 3 (27:52):
So you still go ahead.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
You're not even close.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
I promise you.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
You haven't spent this on the seven oh five of
even if you brought it, bought it at the height
of cost with all the accessoritions. I don't think.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
I don't think I bought it the height of I
got a good deal on it.
Speaker 1 (28:10):
Yeah, but then five will get you. You know what
is it to seventy one point two gig right out
of the box. Yeah, because you've got to add the
transverter for ten gig And.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
Alright, don't.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Okay, all right, I'm gonna put a number in our
private chat. Only Mike could see it. Okay, okay, hold on,
let me see something here, Mike, and I know there's
folks out there probably looking, but is I'll give you
a hand. The transverter for ten gig is a thousand dollars.
(28:56):
The parabolic antenna with mount for ten gig is another
one thousand dollars. Okay, Mike, can you see the number
I put in into the private chat? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (29:07):
Is that metric? Or is that imperial? What do you mean?
Speaker 1 (29:12):
What's yes, that's that's US dollars. That's US dollars. Okay, Steve,
you're not supposed to be looking, Steve, did you see it?
Speaker 4 (29:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (29:20):
Yeah, okay, okay, okay.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
So that's about what I've that I and I'm probably
fairly close to that number with because I bought some
separate batteries. I've bought some separate disc separate that separate backpack.
I bought the Icon, the uh, the tuner, plus I
had the Matt tooner, So you know, you gotta add
all That's.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
What I'm saying. I just starts to add up separate
d line.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
But uh, you know with the nine o five you
still need the two point four gig antenna. You need
the five point six game antenna. Okay, well that's two
seventy and three point fifty respectively, which I know some
of us have spent that on HF intennants. Okay, give
very okay, but that's multi banded HF antennas.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
Oh you got me right there, you're right. The the
Wolf of Recoil.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
Yeah, it was probably two fifty three hundred bucks if
you get to take it along one thousand, but it
does everything six through forty. Yeah, I'm talking three hundred
and fifty dollars for one band. So what is your
cash register receipt saying right now?
Speaker 5 (30:34):
About?
Speaker 3 (30:34):
What do you think?
Speaker 5 (30:36):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (30:37):
What's the investment right now?
Speaker 1 (30:39):
I I did the numbers down to Orlando because they
gave away a nine oh five with the transverter and
all the antennas, and I figured out what the tax
burden would be on that, And the number you put
in our private chat was probably close to what you're
gonna pay in taxes, just in taxes, just in taxes,
(31:02):
because it's it's a gambling win according to Florida law,
which is stupid crazy. But the initial investment for the
nine oh five is twenty six hundred dollars and that
doesn't count the antennas or the ten gig transferter plus
battery and anything else you want to go backpack or carrying.
(31:23):
Yeah that, I mean, you haven't even started to touch it.
So I want to say the package that they were
giving away at ham Cassion came out to just under
twelve thousand dollars.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
And he and H hand Man CT says the five
ban transverter.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
Is twenty four hundred and well, and that's from Q
five Q five, right, So that's Julie.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
It's only.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
Julie.
Speaker 3 (31:57):
We want to cry break it down into how much
you're per contact. Oh god, no, God no.
Speaker 1 (32:04):
So if I say to Jennifer, you know that diamond
ring you got, We're gonna go to the pawn shop, Yeah,
cash it in.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
We're I'm gonna go get I'm gonna go buy a
new radio. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
I'll be living I'll be living in this tent year round,
won't I. She'll take the house and the truck. You
don't even get the pleasure of living in the truck. Okay,
she can, she can keep her ring. I can keep
my radios. I'll keep doing what I'm doing. No, but no,
(32:35):
but seriously, it's an investment. That's whole point. It's an investment.
And some people say you only live ones. How many analogies?
How we heard the famous t o yo buy ones
cry ones, there you.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
Go, but there you go.
Speaker 1 (32:49):
It's uh oh uh oh. Well, I think Vaughn's getting
in trouble if it's only money. The seventy six or
seventy seven sixties on the way.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
From the nineties, Well, I want to know who was that?
Speaker 1 (33:07):
Was that Vaughan typing that or was that Julie No
Vaughn type that, because Julie's under her own account.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
Okay, there you go, all right, So yeah, that's.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
But yeah, if you're going to do the seventy seven sixty,
might as well pair it with the PW two linear
amplifier from my calm as well. So, Mike, Mike, your
two hgs?
Speaker 3 (33:31):
What did that cost you?
Speaker 1 (33:34):
I paid?
Speaker 3 (33:35):
What do you think you paid?
Speaker 1 (33:36):
No?
Speaker 4 (33:37):
I paid two point fifty for one I think it was,
and then the other I think it it was around
that or maybe three hundred, just a little bit more,
maybe three hundred. And I had to justify that, Like
I had the opportunity to buy at least one of
them from somebody local. I've been using the thing, so
I knew it worked, you know. But uh, and he
(33:57):
had a couple of them. But uh, you know, it's like, geez,
do I buy something like this that I'm just using
half a dozen times a year or whatever. But the
the G seven that's the tryband one that does two
meters seventy centimeters and then twenty three SEMs that's a
full duplex HT.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
So there is there is something of value there, I say,
the value for contesting, Yes, satellitement. I'm thinking, I'm thinking, exactly.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
Do you satellites on twenty three centimeters?
Speaker 3 (34:33):
I don't know. I don't know. Eric was in the chat,
Eric would know, but yeah.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Yeah, being a bean bean, yeah, give us a song piece. Yeah,
but no, you're right, there's value yep.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
Yeah, And uh, you know.
Speaker 4 (34:49):
And then the the G twenty nine, that the other
one that's the one that does nine hundred into twenty
I mean, which is like the most quirky I say,
it's the most quirky radio there is that that it's
going to do nine hundred mega hurts and and then
and then to twenty.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
But it's a clean two twenty radio, you know.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
And h there're a lot of them out there, so
you know, yeah, I enjoy it. So I did it,
you know, but that that's a few hundred dollars and
it took several months to kind of pull the trigger
and and and move forward. Everyone's different, you know, and
and stuff, and you know it is in your area. Yeah,
(35:29):
and and I can go out and I can do this.
You can't do it everywhere, you know. We we have
an active group and and stuff, but it's not gonna
fly everywhere. And that's probably why they're not making them anymore,
you know, which is too bad. It is like it
turns into what I call j Leno's garage.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
Oh okay, how many I don't know how many vehicles
j Lenel and other people like him, car afficionados who
take these cars out. They purchase them for various reasons.
They maybe drive them, I don't know, once a year
or whatever. And oh, Frank, I hope you enjoyed your chips.
(36:08):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
You enjoy them, not me, not me.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
Think we're talking radio tonight. We're not talking those crazy chips.
But no, seriously, I think it comes out because I
sort of do that at a very lower scale with
the seven O five. I start to determine, do I
want to take the scent like, for instance, winter field Day?
Do I want to go cure even though I could
(36:30):
take an icon seventy three hundred and turn it down right,
Let's take the seven o five out today. Let's do
you know it's it's I think we all get in
that that mode. Look look at all the different Cure
Pee radios or these radios at twenty watts or less
that we've many guys have bought, you know, from from
(36:52):
Ali Express to whatever, and we're taking them out. We're
not we may not be using them every day or
every act, but we take them out. You go on vacation,
you go over someone's house for the for the barbecue,
and you're gonna go, you know. And I think that's
where it starts to become fun again. The F word
again is the fun you know? Well, and that's you know,
(37:15):
like I said, if if we had nine hundred around here,
I'd probably go out and buy a radio for it.
I've got one two twenty repeater that I know of
in my area, and I happen to know the guy
that owns it and runs it. But you know, I
(37:36):
don't have anything above seventy centimeters. Let's just let's just
stop right there, because for any of the new hands
that are listening, and I always, I always feel bad.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
I bought a DMR radio, I bought the Icon d
Star radio. But I don't know.
Speaker 1 (37:53):
You got to do your homework because the repeater structure
around the country is to different than what it was
twenty five, yeah, thirty years ago. It's going to change
even when I'm in my nineties, right who knows, who
knows what it's it's gonna be. But I think you
got to do that to determine. So don't go out
and buy aning yet, because I think all of us
(38:15):
will agree here that if we had a great two
twenty repeater, we'rein thirty miles of each one of our
homes here, we we we would have a two twenty
radio or or or or a six meter repeater or something,
or if six' five two was, active you kind of
(38:37):
you kind of go where or where the flow is
or you know. Whatever that analogy is so well of
the two hundred and fifty seven repeaters In South, carolina
there is one ten meter repeater and there are four
six meter. Repeaters, dude have you ever seen the duplexers
(38:57):
for a ten meter? Son, yes six seven feet, tall
and we're talking about a six pack six of those. Cans,
Man and usually at least the Ones i've talked, to
the receiver is a mile or more away from the
transmitter and they're still running cans on.
Speaker 6 (39:19):
Them.
Speaker 1 (39:20):
Jeez back in the day when it WAS am six
meter am Or, peter.
Speaker 3 (39:27):
We had one up here In. Kannectu, MEAN i think
played it played and it was, clean but so looks
like we.
Speaker 1 (39:33):
Do South carolina does have three nine hundred MEAs repeaters
and a single one point two gig. Repeater unfortunately they
are not anywhere near, me So i'm not hitting those ON. Fm, yeah,
well the nine hundred is actually A dmr and p.
Speaker 4 (39:55):
Nice, Yeah i'm pretty sure we have a nine hundred
one in the city that's part of a big group
of linked. Repeaters and THEN i think there's there's ten,
meters there's ten, six you, know two to twenty like
all these are all linked up into. One BUT i
have a separate twenty repeater down the road for me
just a couple of. Miles and then there's there's one
(40:17):
a couple of counties over that has a really big
footprint that you, KNOW i can hit with AN ht
and it's it's a you, know a couple of counties
over and, so LIKE i, said it's guys because it's up,
high ins got really good.
Speaker 3 (40:30):
Coverage not a lot of.
Speaker 4 (40:33):
Traffic on, it you, know because again then it comes
down to the it's the, whole like you, know, chicken
there's not a lot of good you, know radios and
and or not a lot out.
Speaker 1 (40:43):
There it's, available but you, know it's it is what it.
Is but AND I i remember one of my, friends
he's now a silent. Key, Yeah i'm not sure If
moe's in the chat out. There our Buddy clark wrote
an article and THE arl picked it up and it
(41:04):
talked about the pros and cons about doing linked repeaters
m different bands or, whatever and you, know and the
comments you would you, know it's just like what just
like what you see today on social. Media you know
that Keyboard, warrior why would.
Speaker 3 (41:23):
You want to do? That this and that and this and.
Speaker 1 (41:24):
That we were talking about maybe some of these ghost
repeaters to kind of like bring them. Together who. Knows,
yes it takes. Time again having a repeater it is
like having a. Kid, yep it really. Is and it's
justly when you know, it it doesn't, work it goes down. Whatever,
YEAH i do a little LITTLE pm on. It but,
(41:44):
still and that caused such a. Controversy we now have
some great. Here, again how many times HAVE i said a,
guy the state Of connecticut is a size of counties
across The United. States but we've got some great links
systems HERE a To, CONNECTICUT D, star d M, r
THE fm. Repickers they are absolutely. Incredible and kudos and
(42:07):
congratulations and a huge thank you to the guys behind
the scenes who keep these things running for. Us so, hey, listen,
guys you got a few, bucks maybe you got, ten ten,
bucks ten, bucks twenty bucks to throw it to them
and trust, me uh that would that would that Would
you'll make them, happy you, know whether you whether you
join their club as maybe as a silent members just
(42:29):
a you, know or or whatever and do that for.
Them that was you, know it goes a long. Way oh.
Speaker 3 (42:40):
He speaking of, WHICH i.
Speaker 1 (42:43):
Got to bring this.
Speaker 3 (42:43):
Up hang, on all, Right so people were asking About

Speaker 1 (42:49):

for as a nomination there.
Speaker 6 (43:06):

Speaker 1 (43:07):
SIT i guess it's a pretty high. Title, yeah you.
Know NOW i don't know if any of the if
any of his previous sins are going to get in the.
Way NOW i don't NOW i don't think they're, sins
but to other people they could be considered. Sins but you,
know does it take a little does it take a
(43:27):
little bit of holy?
Speaker 3 (43:28):
Water throw him at?
Speaker 1 (43:29):
Him and Now joe is not not a, bowels he's sin,
proof you know WHAT i, Mean he's he got.
Speaker 3 (43:35):
Washed he got.
Speaker 1 (43:36):
Washed SO i don't, know but ALL i can say
is thanks TO ai CHAT gt whatever that thing, is
G t P pp. Whatever that took like about ten
seconds That i'm, like oh my, god this app is.
Speaker 3 (43:50):

Sometime oh my, GOD i have how do you have that?
Picture i'm not telling, You, Okay i'm gonna guess. One
guess mo of.
Speaker 3 (44:23):
Course.
Speaker 1 (44:23):
Okay can anybody in the chat Find onzo if put a,
one put a one in right, now if you can
spot me.
Speaker 3 (44:34):
Immediately, oh donny. Boy this was at one of our our.
Speaker 1 (44:44):
Last repeater sites that we did in Southern. Connecticut it's
up about nine hundred feet or. So it looks right
Into Long, island right over the, ocean looks way up Into,
hartford up Into, Springfield, Massis, massachusetts and and. Farther it
just it's just an amazing. Sight and we were able
(45:07):
to get the guy in the middle with the with
the with the winter beanie hat climbs the.
Speaker 3 (45:14):
Tower thank, You.
Speaker 1 (45:17):
Mike that was A sunday. Morning that was A sunday
morning when we were putting the final touches and we
were you, know we all brought our hts to the,
site you, know and, yeah there was probably like two
dozen Dunkin donuts there and we finally got that thing
on the, air and and just like anything, else, man
you drove home and we all worked each, other and you,
(45:40):
know it's sort of like that can you hear me?
Speaker 3 (45:42):
Now and we had.
Speaker 1 (45:42):
Fun that was a, great great. Site that site is
still being used today for hand, radio a whole bunch
of public safety.
Speaker 3 (45:49):
Stuff but, yeah for those.
Speaker 1 (45:50):
Of you who who cannot figure out WHERE i, Am
i'm all the way to the, Left i'm the Second
i'm the second guy to the left in the. Back. There,
wow such a baby thing. There, yeah.
Speaker 3 (46:01):
HUH i want to.
Speaker 1 (46:04):
Say that was around nineteen ninety, two nineteen ninety. Three,
Maybe i'm Sure ma will tell. Us, UNFORTUNATELY i think
there's there's about. Three there's about three or four silent
keys in that, group And god bless them they. Were
they were great guys just to hang out and ham,
(46:24):
fest rag chewing whatever field. Day we'd sit around and
we'd come up with plans to do this and do,
that and a year, later some of the things we
did and some of the things we didn't.
Speaker 3 (46:33):
Do but that's, hey that's that's what hanging out.
Speaker 6 (46:36):
Is you know WHAT i.
Speaker 1 (46:37):
Mean you never never admit to anything you didn't get caught.
For so, RIGHT i want to bring up another picture
of uh so this was.
Speaker 3 (46:54):
So, guys this was me On.
Speaker 1 (46:55):
Saturday, okay well, AGAIN i go back to playing in the.
Truck it was just me the eight ninety, one the
a tooss just slapped it on the, trimag threw it
on the on the roof of the, truck ran the
feeline in through the, window and bang Work and it
works decently on the. Trimag it works awesome on The,
(47:16):
trimag including on forty. Meters okay once once, again it's
ALL i think it's all about the ground with that.
Antenna that antenna wants to, see and by right or,
wrong that wants to. See SO i just make SURE
i WHEN i positioned those mag, Mounts i'm getting as
much metal as possible under that mag. MOUNT i wonder
(47:37):
how mad they'd be IF i got a try mag
to throw my suitcase wat, Travel, hey what's there to
get mad. At it's in the. Suitcase it's going in
the belly of the, plane, Right. Yeah i'm just wondering
how much it'll stick to going through the extra machines and.
Stuff so, well put it on a cookies, now put
it on a cookie sheet first underneath it and then
just and then put a bath towel or put your
(47:58):
pajamas underneath it or.
Speaker 3 (47:59):
Something, yep you, know but you could see and that
was ten.
Speaker 1 (48:05):
Meters that was ten, meters forty, meters fifteen meters and seventeen.
METERS i want to thank anybody who was operating in
The FLORIDA qusa.
Speaker 3 (48:15):
Party there there was these one by one. Calls what
did they call? Themselves the. Pirates, YEAH i worked one of.
THEM i worked one of.
Speaker 1 (48:24):
Them, yeah supposedly there was up so my handpost so
the hand polo kept saying there was like fourteen stations Around.
FLORIDA i THINK i worked about seven or eight of
them on twenty meters AND i think fifteen. Maybe but, anyway,
great great group of. Guys they sounded absolutely. Fantastic congratulations
to all them going. Around that was fun kind of chasing.
(48:45):
Them that was fun chasing them because the bands in
my area here In New, england Southern New, england between
two o'clock and four, o'clock the bands are really in
a Weird i'm one it has to do with the gray.
LINE i wish somebody who had a lot more NON
i just could explain this stuff to see if that's
What i'm saying is. True but that's my speculation for
(49:06):
me in that time. PERIOD i don't know what what
the how the bands they they're they're all acting differently
at that time in that in that, window, yeah of
two hours two pm to four Pm eastern. Time SO
i THINK i had the park worked with park the
parks in about fifteen minutes or. So there you.
Speaker 3 (49:26):
Go so after, that it was let's go have some.
Speaker 1 (49:29):
Fun so when the guy From alaska caused me From North,
Pole alaska caused, me, YEAH i mean, again, yeah if
you were here side, work, right and if you're inside
the truck and you heard me screaming and of happy
tears and everything, else you, know because the wildlife, AREA
(49:49):
i THINK i screamed AND i think the birds all took.
Speaker 5 (49:51):
Off but, no that was.
Speaker 1 (49:53):
Fun it, was LIKE i, said it was fun just
to really go out there bear bounded and just you,
know it was pouring, rain BUT i didn't, care just
go sit in the.
Speaker 3 (50:02):
Truck.
Speaker 1 (50:03):
Yeah, yeah and and and so that's What so, GUYS
i guess the moral of the story is is just
get out and play. Radio who cares if it's if
it's raining out.
Speaker 3 (50:11):
To get out and have.
Speaker 1 (50:12):
Fun ye, out use the bands because if we don't use,
them we lose.
Speaker 3 (50:17):
Them but, hey since we're doing, show and tell you.
Mind IF i show a couple of, pictures we're expecting
you to that's what.
Speaker 1 (50:27):
Real quick while you're getting that. Together those of you
that DO, PoTA you probably Worked Gil johnson A g
four J. O he went silent key. Yesterday oh, Man
SO i saw that on The Georgia parks on the
air group. Today rest in, peace. Brother. Yep he was
(50:49):
actually supposed to host the one of THEIR PoTA locations
for The Georgia parks on the air. Day so hopefully
somebody else takes that over and there's a big turnout for.
That it's.
Speaker 3 (51:06):
Uploading this does. Matter let me gets, There.
Speaker 1 (51:10):
Mike what was the Last potia dead you?
Speaker 3 (51:14):
Did LAST PODA i did was support Your parks, weekend
which is What i'm uploading some photos. From and did
you use did you use your call?
Speaker 1 (51:26):
Sign? NO i.
Speaker 3 (51:27):
DIDN'T i actually we were talking about this BEFORE i.
Speaker 4 (51:31):
REALIZED i have not used my call sign FOR poda
since The Clubhouse anniversary live stream WHEN i went out
live stream AND i used the club Called dard live.
Stream that Was march. Twentieth that Was march right, Now.
March so since Then i've been using club. CALLS i
used The Ham Radio clubhouse club. CALL i worked for a.
(51:54):

to pull, up which we do this every. Year, now
let's see how DO i add this or maybe you
got to add it.
Speaker 1 (52:10):
Or down at the. Bottom, yep you're. Ready there we, Go,
yep there it. Is.
Speaker 4 (52:15):
Okay so my club The Rochester Amateur Radio, association and
we're we're definitely one of the larger. Clubs we got
close to five hundred, members so we do. THIS i
started this thing called THE Poda, academy which we do
Every april On support Your parks. Weekend we rent a.
Cabin it's in The Erie Canalway National Heritage, corridor and
(52:38):
we set up multiple stations and it's kind of like, Everyone,
hey come. Out if you're a veteran AT, poda bring your,
gear set, up do show and, tell and if you're
new or, interested just just come.
Speaker 3 (52:52):
Out we'll sit you. Through you.
Speaker 4 (52:53):
Know in this, Photo jack is kind of showing some
of the logging software to a couple, newbies and you,
know we set up multiple. Stations we had stations on
forty twenty fifteen and. Ten we had stations DOING cw
digital MODES. Ssb we, had you, know a variety of
radios and antennas all set. Up you, know it's just
(53:16):
kind of a good opportunity to get out and just
s new front and see new, gear you, know you,
know and LIKE i, said if your, experience you, know
kind of do a show and tell and, stuff but
In elmer, people but if you're, not you, know this
is an opportunity to. Learn And i'll walk through a
couple of the. Photos but we had each year we've
(53:36):
had over thirty people show. Up we had over thirty
five show up to this, event which was. Nice and you,
know so we had the seven. Ten in the other
photo there's A yasu four fifty day that you know
that that's another one of the club radios that still.
Works and we had somebody set up with A g
nine dy there's An Ella craft or a Mag loop
(53:58):
doing some. Witchcraft but then The PoTA bus showed. Up
one of my buddies has converted a bus into A
poda station and he MODIFIED i guess like one of
those lighting trailers that you see For rod And we
had this thing set up on ten meters and, GOSH
(54:20):
i wish the bands were open this, day like support
your parks, weekend anyone that was out working then it
was it was, brutal but but we had the bus set,
up you know with with you, know three elements on
ten it was it was. Awesome but you, know we
had a nice cabin you could be outside inside depending
on the, weather and it was just like a really
(54:43):
good time just getting out playing. Radio we had some fun.
Giveaways you can actually see one of the giveaways in
this photo and one of The hams donated to two iPad,
minis so we we we gave up two, iPads a
couple of books on. Poda, yeah the, guy the guy
in the black hardheart shirt there in the. Middle, yeah
(55:04):
if you look, quick that's K.
Speaker 1 (55:06):
A m R.
Speaker 3 (55:07):
D or maybe that's his. Brother.
Speaker 4 (55:12):
Yeah but you, know it was a lot of fun
and it's been a good, event you, know and LIKE i,
said three, years we've gotten over thirty people each of these,
events and it kind of just goes to show you
with you, know With, poda you, know how how this
is really growing ham radio and generating a lot of
(55:35):
interest and.
Speaker 3 (55:36):
Stuff it's. Fantastic so So.
Speaker 1 (55:38):
Mike i'm curious what kind of witchcraft were they doing
that mag?
Speaker 3 (55:40):
Loop, YEAH i want to know more about.
Speaker 4 (55:42):
THAT i always say with mag loops are. WITCHCRAFT i
don't understand. Them they, Work they're frustrating as, hell But
i'm not going to sell mine and. Stuff but now
he had it set up with one of the llocraft
K x something or. Others and in fact that the
the the member that in That Carl. Hinz he's the
mapping coordinator For New york FOR. Poda so you, know
(56:04):
like we have a great group there to really bring
up that.
Speaker 1 (56:07):
Picture, again bring up that picture. Again let's let's talk
about this. ANTENNA i already you dumped it because my
thing one, thing what that antenna.
Speaker 3 (56:16):
Is i'm gonna make an assumption.
Speaker 1 (56:19):
Here tell me if you Think I'M i think if
you're into C w, yes and you're traveling m hm,
exactly maybe if you're doing help me OUT ft eight
right because you're sitting on one, frequency, yes, no you
gotta be F T.
Speaker 3 (56:39):
YEAH i think if you're going to bring that.
Speaker 1 (56:43):
Antenna to A PoTA park or from home or work
in any type of field environment mm, hm and you're
gonna be moving around on the. BAND i don't think
that's the antenna for. YOU i don't think, now BECAUSE
i think the frustration of it's not a throw a
(57:05):
wire up even or like you, said a, coil a
wolf river, coil infant halfway a. STICK i think you're
going to have. BETTER i see more guys getting frustrated
with that, antenna BUT i think there's a huge learning
curve and it's a great benefit. Antenna matter of, fact
(57:26):
there's a guy In. ITALY i think he sells one
for about three or five thousand. Dollars, okay so there
is a small group of guys who buy these things
because obviously these demand for them is going. Right BUT
i know for, me it's not for. ME i wish
(57:47):
it could be for, me But i'm not that guy
to be, playing LIKE i said on cw OR ft
eight with. It AND i think that's WHERE i keep,
saying don't even buy that antenna right.
Speaker 4 (57:57):
Now, YEAH i bought a Mag. Loop it was the
second ANTENNA i. Bought i'd only been a hand for
a few. Months it's An alex slop AND i got
it at an estate. Sale it looked like it had
barely been used AND i got a good deal on.
It and at the TIME i had A g. Ninety
and if you have something like a seven h five
(58:18):
OR g, ninety something that has a good it will
have like AN swr chart or. Graph it makes it
a little bit easier to tune those things and and.
Whatnot you can still do it by ear listening to
the noise and, everything but you, know THE swr sweep
that certainly.
Speaker 3 (58:36):
Helped BUT i forced myself to hunt stations from the.
Backyard AND i think it was for like they do
the special event for like The indianapolis five. HUNDRED i
think it, was, Yep and AND i hunted those with
the alex loop from the. Backyard So i'm not.
Speaker 4 (58:58):
OUT i don't have the benefit of being at a
park and saying park to park or anything, right, Right
and BUT I i hunted them and hunted some poda
from the backyard a couple weekends in a. Row and
THAT i mean it was torture because every time you
sneeze you got to retune those those those.
Speaker 3 (59:16):
Antennas but it got me. Comfortable and you, KNOW i always,
say LIKE i learned my first cars a, MANUAL i
learned to drive.
Speaker 4 (59:25):
MANUAL i got my first manual AND i drove it
up To Hamilton, college which is in Central New, york
AND i stopped on the hill and this was In,
december AND i was, Like i'm going to, learn AND
i just start, stop start stop to kind of get
get the clutch and everything down and. Whatnot but you,
know you sometimes that's just how you got To you
(59:46):
got to. Learn and those antennas are, frustrating but they
have a, purpose and yes they. Do and THAT'S i
always think LIKE i should just sell. MINE i only
use it once or twice a. Year but then there's
that time where you're gonna WANT i DO ft eight
from a hotel room Or i've. DONE i did A
poda four for AND i was really limited to do
(01:00:09):
a four for where the trails were AND i had
a limited FOOTPRINT i could activate from and that was
perfect to set up and do.
Speaker 3 (01:00:17):
It and SO i did a four for podah with.
Speaker 1 (01:00:19):
It and so you, know.
Speaker 3 (01:00:23):
There's no perfect. Radio there's no perfect In. TONA i
Wish jody was.
Speaker 1 (01:00:27):
HERE i would love to know more about. This he,
said it's it's great for for. Receive, yes, well, okay
so but what happens when you want to go transmit?
Again are you sitting on one? Frequency BECAUSE i know
for side by and nothing is more? Frequent, again we
as poda has. Evolved, now, yeah, hi we're already here
(01:00:48):
on the. Chat we're ready over. Here thank you for
asking us the? Frequency and, yes yes it is mm.
Hmm now you gotta, move which means you, know uh,
so oh yeah it's but, Yeah i'd love to get
my hands on an alex. Loop yeah, So, mike if
you ever get the inclination to get rid of. It,
(01:01:13):
now the value just went up on, It, Mike see the.
Value see how you got a guy?
Speaker 3 (01:01:17):
Want it's so hard to part with stuff though it, is,
well it. Hurts it, hurts doesn't.
Speaker 1 (01:01:22):
It it. HURTS i have A i have a six
meter antenna sitting up in the. Rafters m. H i
keep Saying i'm gonna pull it. OUT i keep, saying, like,
GO i put away all the winter. STUFF i was
up on the ladder and it was looking at. Me it's, like,
hey have a senior in a, while is, oh let's see,
know now's probably the time to be playing six.
Speaker 3 (01:01:45):
Meters you, know why don't you take?
Speaker 1 (01:01:46):
It. Down all you.
Speaker 3 (01:01:47):
Gotta do is put.
Speaker 1 (01:01:48):
Up you got enough, Masks you got enough feline. Is
oh why don't you just run it and stick it
up and the next time you bring the radio on
the back porch just plug it. In you never.
Speaker 3 (01:01:57):
Know, hey Is i'm over, here don't don't don't.
Speaker 1 (01:01:59):
Go don't go climbing down that ladderis, Though and THERE i,
went AND I papa should just pulled it. Down So
i'm looking at because it's already built at the clamps
is right. There just you know WHAT i, mean clamp,
it pop it up on the mast AND i should do. It,
well THAT'S i was actually looking at selling the STEP
i are when the tower came, Down.
Speaker 3 (01:02:23):
And, YEAH i was started talking to but it talks to,
you doesn't.
Speaker 1 (01:02:29):
It That i've got to do a couple of little
minor repairs on it THAT i. Found, Hey, steve why
do you come? On see what do you want to
get rid of?
Speaker 2 (01:02:38):
Me?
Speaker 1 (01:02:38):
STEVE i need at least one more section of round twenty, five,
stee that's all you?
Speaker 3 (01:02:45):
Need another?
Speaker 1 (01:02:46):
Section come, on then get the the tilt over base for.
It come, on see you put me back up on the, Tower,
Steve how come?
Speaker 3 (01:02:52):
On see you put me back on the.
Speaker 1 (01:02:53):
Tower well it just works that four element shame. Shame
shane would love it. Too, yeah we'll see IF i
Give shane access.
Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
AGAIN i love.
Speaker 1 (01:03:06):
IT i love it when our gear are we, nuts
but when our gear starts talking to, us you, know
it's it's such a psychological, game, Man it's, like, yeah,
yes see the oven misses. You yeah, RIGHT i love.
What we still use the. Oven that's why you see
(01:03:29):
from here Up you know you don't need to see
all this belly is.
Speaker 3 (01:03:34):
Though you mentioned six. Meters IF i can plug something real, quick.
Speaker 1 (01:03:38):
Absolutely what else are we going to do here? TONIGHT
i Want we're going to talk radioly hold, on we
said we were going to talk radio. Tonight we have not,
DEVIATED i don't think from the radio in the last
sixty five minutes.
Speaker 3 (01:03:53):
YET i think we're doing pretty good.
Speaker 1 (01:03:54):
Here.
Speaker 3 (01:03:55):
Yeah, so and we can move on to other things after.
This BUT i got to get this in BECAUSE i
would love the help of clubhouse in the audience for.
This SO i came up with this. Idea may twenty
fifth is five twenty, five twenty Five Memorial day, weekend isn't,
(01:04:17):
It which it's A.
Speaker 4 (01:04:18):
SUNDAY i don't know if It's Memorial day, weekend it might,
be but IT'S a five twenty, five which is fifty
two point five two, five which is the calling frequency
for six.
Speaker 3 (01:04:30):
Meters So i'm working.
Speaker 4 (01:04:31):
LOCALLY i just did an article And i'm presenting that
our club, meeting our next club. Meeting on This i'm
trying to encourage people to get out on six METER
fm On, Sunday may twenty, fifth five twenty, five twenty.
FIVE i think it'd be fun because it's it's the
beginning of six meter season.
Speaker 1 (01:04:50):
At twenty five.
Speaker 3 (01:04:51):
Pm, anytime just just get just you, know throw a wire,
up whatever you gotta.
Speaker 4 (01:04:57):
Do BUT i just want to encourage six meter. Activity you,
know we say it's you, know it's The magic, band
it's The tragic. Band but you, know at the end
of the, day you don't know unless you. Try and
AND i think it'd be, fun you. Know take advantage
is kind of like a once in a lifetime. Thing
five twenty, five twenty five is not going to come around,
again SO i thought that that would be a fun
(01:05:19):
thing to. Do So i'm plugging it. Now i'm going
to do a video on. IT i just bought last
month THE u six meter Fair, jay SO i plan
on using. THAT i think it'll be real fun to.
Do but, uh But i've caught openings on six meters
And I've i've gone on six when it's it's. Dead
you don't know unless you, try and AND i think
(01:05:43):
it'd be. FUN i got the idea because my son
AND i a couple of years ago was what they
were they referred to As.
Speaker 3 (01:05:51):
Tuesday it was two twenty two and it happened to
be on A, tuesday and so my son AND i
went out to A poda twofer and we had two
ops on two twenty. Two doing a two METER Fm
poda is a last minute. Thought we went out and
it was porn. Rain we threw you, know the edfong
(01:06:12):
j poll up and we made a bunch of. Contacts
it was a last minute.
Speaker 4 (01:06:16):
Thing it was just fun to, do you, know and
it got some people on the, air whether they were
text or or you, know long time just doing you,
know simplex on two, meters AND i think it'd be
fun to do something similar on six.
Speaker 1 (01:06:30):
Meters let me ask, you all, right so let me
let me ask some questions and maybe some people in
the chat the same, questions what can you tell us
about six meters sideband propagation is? ITS i want it
because What i'm going to do Is i'm going to
try to relate TO i know pretty much WHEN i
get on, FORTY i know that invisible circle THAT i
(01:06:52):
can draw from WHERE i, am Who i'm going to,
work what, states what regions of the country, with so
all of our radios basically do about what one hundred
wats on six, METERS i believe.
Speaker 4 (01:07:06):
Yeah if you got, yeah or, fifty if you've got
one of the mobiles like, that those LIKE t Y
t squad bands or something like, that you can you
might have some six meter fms that'll do. Fifty, Okay
but let's let's just, say side, bit have you ever
done any range testing to, say, hey, listen and, AGAIN
i know propagation is going to Be but just as
(01:07:26):
a general, rule do you know where your invisible lines
or circle? Is the few times That I've i've gotten
out And i've gotten openings on six wouil to be
like last juneish or so on, Sideband i'm getting From
New york down To, Texas florida into The.
Speaker 1 (01:07:46):
Midwest but that's during an. Opening that's that's, yeah that's my.
Post i'll get doing an. Opening so would you say
you do you think you Have do you think you
AND i can work each each? Other Now i'm not
too far from, no not without an.
Speaker 3 (01:08:01):
OPENING i. WOULDN'T i think that that'd be too.
Speaker 4 (01:08:03):
Far my general understanding of six is you're when it
comes to like if F m, simplex you're gonna get
some of the similarities of two. Meters it's gonna be
obviously it's in between six or six is in between
two and. Ten and we we have a local ten
(01:08:24):
METER ssb net that that folks do in this.
Speaker 3 (01:08:28):
Area but.
Speaker 4 (01:08:30):
It's it's gonna be similar to, two but it's gonna
do a little bit better in. Area it's you're not
gonna HAVE i talked about the full foilage. Foliage why is.
Speaker 3 (01:08:42):
It full to say? FOLIAGE i will help, YOU i
will help you. Enunciate isn't?
Speaker 1 (01:08:47):
That isn't that how?
Speaker 3 (01:08:47):
Ironical what is it coming to when you're helping me
pronounce things.
Speaker 1 (01:08:53):
And the foliage is starting now here here in the.
Speaker 3 (01:08:56):
Northeast you know that's not gonna be as so?
Speaker 1 (01:08:59):
Bad?
Speaker 4 (01:09:00):
Uh you know on six as it's gonna be when
you get TO uhf or, so but so it should
be a little bit better distance range then two.
Speaker 1 (01:09:11):
Is my.
Speaker 4 (01:09:12):
Understanding but, uh but, yeah when you when you get to,
simplex and if there isn't an, opening then you're dealing
with things like line of. Sight what antenna's polarization is
a big deal if you're going to be doing local
line of SIGHT, fm simplex doesn't matter the. Band if
if you're running a vertical and someone else's running, horizontal.
Speaker 3 (01:09:36):
The loss is.
Speaker 4 (01:09:37):
Significant you don't worry about that WITH hf at all
when you're doing skywave, propagation but when you're doing line of,
site if you have cross, polarization the difference is. Huge
so so that's a really really big. Factor AND i
know WHEN i do a lot of THE vhf, CONTESTING
(01:10:00):
I i have to run horizontal even If i'm DOING
ft because all the serious contesters are those that have
really nice setups FOR vhf and above they have multiple
elements all. Horizontal they're not running vertical point point and
that makes a really really big.
Speaker 3 (01:10:20):
Difference so so, uh you know that's a big factor.
Speaker 1 (01:10:25):
TOO M, well that WEEKEND i will actually be in
d C. H probably gonna toe the bike up. Again,
yeah which Means i'll have the eight fifty seven in
the truck with the, atos so that puts me vertical on. Six.
Speaker 3 (01:10:42):
Nice, yeah it doesn't hurt to call. Out just just
throw the call out and see what. Happens or, listen.
Speaker 1 (01:10:49):
Just gotta make sure the truck keys in my pocket or,
well or put the bio ino battery in there and
just turn the radio on right.
Speaker 3 (01:10:55):
Exactly. Yeah and For, poda THERE'S PoTA six. AWARDS i
got those like a year or so.
Speaker 4 (01:11:01):
Ago you, know there's, insentive you, Know i'm sure for,
SODA i don't pay attention to the soda badges or
awards or.
Speaker 3 (01:11:10):
Stuff i've got. Some but, well get out there.
Speaker 1 (01:11:13):
Too far from my. Hotel there's a seven fur seventh.
Speaker 3 (01:11:18):
Parts.
Speaker 1 (01:11:22):
YEAH i activated that one Last Memorial day on my way.
HOME i stopped in, there got my ten and moved
on with the bike on the trailer behind the.
Speaker 3 (01:11:32):
Truck, yeah and were in the park a lot of the. Hotel,
NO i.
Speaker 1 (01:11:40):
Was it's a wildlife management, area right that happens to
be along six. Trails. Damn, now, well here's the. Thing
all five of the six trails are either five or
(01:12:00):
of the six all traveled down The Potomac.
Speaker 3 (01:12:03):
River thank, You, ben So.
Speaker 1 (01:12:07):
Ben remember for twenty nine, months so you know you're
right there on The Potomac. River and then one of
the other trails is The George Washington, parkway which was
the other side of the parking. Lot nice And i'm, like,
Yeah i've got to do, it, sweet, yeah oh absolutely,
Absolutely so that's. Interesting may twenty. Fifth, see now you've
(01:12:30):
got me BECAUSE i got to go up into the
rafters one more time in the garage to put some stuff,
away And i'm wondering IF i should just pull the
six meter beam, down throw it up, here just just
latch it to something here on the, deck run the feed.
Line there you.
Speaker 3 (01:12:47):
Go if other people get on who are, local you,
know to other.
Speaker 4 (01:12:54):
Hams if other people get on and, try even if
there's not an, opening it's an opportunity to see what
you can do with six.
Speaker 1 (01:13:01):
Meters simplex and, well we used to run that all
the time here In connecticut back in the. Nineties mob
will tell you we were buying these ges and these
motorola and we WERE i think we were throwing crystals
in that maybe or you, know you, know and the
(01:13:22):
cables were like these, big gigantic cables and you, know
you're gonna put the you, know this is where we
learned about our remote head totally different than what we
know today is you, know and these things probably weighed
about forty, pounds you, know and we would play you,
know we would do fifty two and they were ALL,
fm so we were you, know and we just basically
(01:13:43):
cared about fifty two five two. Five and it was
fun to work six meter mobile here in the state Of.
Connecticut it really. Was we really it was a fun
learning and things and you, know and AS i, say
it just takes two, guys it just takes two guys
and the next, thing you, know someone else wants to do.
It and you, know, yeah a lot of this stuff was.
(01:14:04):
Coming it was a lot of dumpster diving was going.
On that's ALL i want to. Say i'll go to my,
grave that's almost. Say there was a lot of dumpster
dive going on because a lot of agencies they didn't
want this stuff anymore and they didn't want to grind it.
Speaker 5 (01:14:17):
Up.
Speaker 1 (01:14:19):
Yeah, see, yes six meter And mike pops into the. Chat, yeah,
YEAH i think he's got something like a killowot on?
Six does he? Really?
Speaker 5 (01:14:28):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:14:29):
Kidding, well he picked up an. APP i don't know
if he's got to work and yet, YEP i know
exactly what he picked up Because i've seen him at
the handfest out.
Speaker 1 (01:14:35):
Here is one of those one of those one of
those Nice italian. Amplifiers, no they're like the OLD tv
ones and THE Tv, yeah, god oh my, god that's.
Speaker 4 (01:14:46):
Great SO i was at the handfest last summer locally
AND i saw, them AND i took some photos AND
i was texting.
Speaker 1 (01:14:55):
On.
Speaker 3 (01:14:56):
DISCORD i was, like, hey check these. Out these are
what you, got, Right and, yep, yep.
Speaker 1 (01:15:00):
Yeah he said it's not functional, yet but he's got
all the. Parts.
Speaker 3 (01:15:02):
Yeah and.
Speaker 1 (01:15:05):
Where Did julie post hang? On she said something about
you guys were the best bathtub friends a girl could ask. For, Oh,
julie you want to? Explain, yeah what's that going on?
Here she's talking about her General was she taking her
test from inside the?
Speaker 3 (01:15:25):
Bathtub?
Speaker 1 (01:15:26):
Oh, absolutely, yeah for.
Speaker 3 (01:15:29):
The for the security of proving that that she's not.
CHEATING i love.
Speaker 1 (01:15:33):
It what kind of shower curtain did she, Have? Steve
did she have like fish on? Them because you could
tell a lot about a person about their shower. CURTAIN
i AM i am telling. YOU i am telling. You
you could tell a lot about a person from their shower.
Curtain so the shower, curtain, WELL i don't think she
(01:15:55):
was in her, bathroom but she was in one of
the bathrooms of the. House, wow BUT i will let's see. Here,
yeah two prove. It you can see the tile wall behind.
Her and, YES i recorded. It, excellent, excellent.
Speaker 3 (01:16:17):
Good for.
Speaker 1 (01:16:17):
Her, hey at the end of the, day guess what
it's quality? Passed she, passed, yes, good, Good but we
were having fun with. It did she try to test
up the extra AFTER i tried to, Not, no you can.
ASK i tried to convince, her but she said. No oh.
Speaker 4 (01:16:39):
H WHEN i WHEN i took my, TACK i was, like,
yeah why, Not i'll try the general and like it was.
Horrible and so WHEN i did the, GENERAL i was, like,
No i'm not wasting my, Time Like i'll be back next.
Speaker 3 (01:16:54):
Month there you. GO i got it.
Speaker 1 (01:16:55):
Done But, CHASE i don't like the. Idea excellent, Idea.
Jason you Know eric was talking about the. Acoustics is
my guess is probably a little bit of an echo
reverb going, on but, uh there was a little bit of.
ECHO i could actually Hear vaughan playing on the radio
through the. Wall well maybe you can do, it and
(01:17:17):
then when you're, done you get on the.
Speaker 3 (01:17:18):
Radio, no he, wouldn't you.
Speaker 1 (01:17:21):
Know he WAS i think falling a net or he
was Chasing poe to. Something but it sounded like an
all star beat as well every. Time, YEAH i could
tell he wasn't helping her with the test at, all
and she was very. Focused so, hey and it doesn't
make a difference where you sit in the. Bathroom guess
(01:17:42):
what you passed the? Test, yeah, yeah there he. Goes he,
says he running a. Net so.
Speaker 4 (01:17:52):
Yep and the one Thing i'd say to her or anyone, else,
like after you take past the, test it's probably the
best time to start studying for the next. One, well
things are fresh in your. Head WHEN i got my,
TECHNICIAN i thought that was going to be. It AND
i my first contact on the radio on a repeater
(01:18:14):
was one of the nicest hands that there is and
and he told me my very First qso he's, like,
hey you got this stuff fresh in year, head keep,
studying don't don't give. Up you can do, this and
was so, encouraging AND i kind of thought about it
for like a week AND i was, like you know,
what probably has a, Point like this stuff is still
(01:18:36):
fresh in my. Head and then the next MONTH i
went back and The, general and then a month later
got THE. Extra BUT i realized he was. Right you,
know it's, true.
Speaker 3 (01:18:48):
Freshman i'm not making.
Speaker 1 (01:18:51):
Excuses but my analogy WHEN i first started looking at
the extra, questions they are not really like To. General,
no The general spends a lot more time on operating,
areas you, know, uh where you can. Operate you, know
(01:19:11):
extra is a little Bit it's a deeper deeper, dive isn't.
It in it's a deeper dive into the technical esto
into the technical. Side and, well and when WHEN i
do online, testing whether it be For clubhouse or you
know a myriad of the other online TESTING i do
or have, done we always tell them you're in study.
(01:19:34):
Mode keep. Going if you want to go all the,
way keep. Going if you don't want to go all the,
way that's. Fine i've got plenty of people that are
happy be in a tech you, know they want to
do all of the tech, stuff and then they'll think,
about you, know getting into general and then you get
the money chef once and they're. Hooked so, absolutely.
Speaker 4 (01:19:57):
Yeah but, yeah and everyone learns different. TOO i kind
of just was in like that sponge mode and just
soaking stuff up and just DOING ham study and audio
books a couple hours every.
Speaker 5 (01:20:15):
Day AND.
Speaker 3 (01:20:18):
I didn't touch a. RADIO i didn't operate other than
my my LITTLE HT i got AFTER i got my.
TECH i didn't get AN hf radio until AFTER i
got my. EXTRA i didn't touch an h being a PANDEMIC,
HAM i didn't touch AN hf radio until AFTER i
got my.
Speaker 4 (01:20:33):
Extra so you, know it's, different you, Know And i've
learned more obviously ONCE i got on the air and
started playing with stuff that that wasn't possible back then
because you weren't having that face to face contact and
stuff during the.
Speaker 3 (01:20:49):
Pandemic it was a little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:20:51):
Different but LIKE i, said every everyone learns, different and
there's a lot to be learned by just getting out
there and doing stuff and there's but there's nothing wrong
with memorizing stuff. Either because the THINGS i memorized WHEN
i was doing my tech in, general WHEN i was
teaching it to my son when he was going for his.
LICENSE a few months, later AFTER i had been, OPERATING i, Realized, oh,
(01:21:14):
WAIT i used to have to memorize the links of
diepoles and all these. Things NOW i know Because i've
built the antenna Or i've. Played it's coming secondhand now, too,
you isn't.
Speaker 2 (01:21:24):
It.
Speaker 4 (01:21:25):
Yeah it hit me AS i was like telling, them
like all these tricks to, Memorize i'm, like, WAIT i
already know this off the top of my head now
Because i've done. It so it's everyone's, different you, Know
so everyone's got to do, themselves you, know you know what.
Works but THAT i think it's good if if when
you're in that mode you've been you've been studying those
habits and you've got things freshing your, head keep at,
(01:21:46):
it don't give.
Speaker 1 (01:21:47):
Up, Well and you, KNOW i had a young lady
that tested with us during the pandemic and she came
in with no license and in eighteen minutes she had
HER act. Extra, wow it's. Awesome, yeah that's. Great in her,
defense she's also working on HER ee in college at
(01:22:10):
seventeen years, old because she's, like how DO i become A.
Ve it's, like, well you got to be. Eighteen so
the day she turned. Eighteen guess what paperwork we got
her ve. Paperwork she sent it to us on her.
Birthday and now she's running a team. Herself so and she's,
(01:22:34):
smart very very. SMART a big hello to a big Looado,
carlos who just you, know how Did carlos just drop? In?
Speaker 3 (01:22:45):
Yeah Drop ben, literally thank you for the, Warning, Carlos,

Speaker 1 (01:22:53):

Speaker 3 (01:23:06):

(01:23:29):
Dayton you know something's gonna happen In. Dayton there's always
something going on Day all, right let me try this,
again beat, paste there you, go, brother happened, so.
Speaker 3 (01:23:51):

Speaker 1 (01:23:53):
Dayton i'm NOT i have roly thunder the very next,
weekend which Is Memorial day, weekend all, right AND i
will Make dayton at some. POINT i just DON'T i
don't know when. YET i want to be, there but,
uh the wife would not give me a haul past
two weekends in a.
Speaker 3 (01:24:13):
Row, OH i just heard a. Beep here a door
bell go. OFF i THINK i know what that.
Speaker 1 (01:24:18):
Means, oh, no doorbell didn't go. Off he kicked in
the back. Door look at, Him look at. Off everybody
do that, Again, carlos, listen see right.
Speaker 5 (01:24:29):
Away. LISTEN I i come from the island Of Puerto
rico to say hello to the cure. Puppy, puppy you,
know look at.
Speaker 3 (01:24:42):
You where's Your.
Speaker 5 (01:24:48):
Mexican sing man Perto rico.
Speaker 1 (01:24:53):
And?
Speaker 3 (01:24:53):
Tequila?
Speaker 1 (01:24:54):
Right and except FOR i know that is daytona beach behind.
You tell Me i'm. Wrong tell Me i'm.
Speaker 5 (01:25:02):
Wrong you're not, Wrong you're not.
Speaker 7 (01:25:04):
Wrong, Oh, carlos there's such a good. Liar well that's
HOW i landed my.
Speaker 5 (01:25:14):
Wife you.
Speaker 1 (01:25:15):
Know, well, guys we stopped talking radio, Now so For
mike k m R, dc, guys stop talking radio. Now
we're gonna Now we're not gonna talk radio form until
the end of the show because time for The committee For.
Speaker 5 (01:25:28):
Relief you, know you, KNOW i GOTTA i gotta, telegram you.
Speaker 1 (01:25:33):
Know and.
Speaker 5 (01:25:36):
You know what it's, like you, know go rescue those,
Boys go rescue. Them i'm, like, okay there's no.
Speaker 3 (01:25:40):
Route we weren't doing fine.
Speaker 1 (01:25:41):
Here just this is a.
Speaker 3 (01:25:42):
Courtesy it's over an hour of ham radio talk, though so.
Speaker 1 (01:25:47):
It was almost ninety minutes Of ham radio. TALK i
don't think we've EVER i don't think we just could
have been a First maybe we'll have to now we've
gone the full two two.
Speaker 3 (01:25:58):
Hours.
Speaker 5 (01:25:58):
Wow, okay you, Know jason is.
Speaker 6 (01:26:01):
Right coquito is the is the National but the thing,
Is coquito is For. Christmas, Right we're not In christmas.
Anymore it's it's. Summertime it Is madaya light.
Speaker 5 (01:26:12):
Time you, know, Kay and And mike. Knows mike's been down,
there you. Know and the thing, is we are very
proud of Our Midaia like it's like pissed water. Chingo, okay, yes.
Speaker 1 (01:26:28):
We know. It we it's.
Speaker 3 (01:26:29):
Approved huh, Right, no well.
Speaker 5 (01:26:32):
Let's not go that. Far, okay as bad As. Miller, okay.
Speaker 3 (01:26:38):
But doesn't it come in a? Can does it come
in a.
Speaker 5 (01:26:40):
Can it comes in a, can is eight ounces in
the can be ten ten we it's hot down, there,
Right so if you if you make the can a
standard twelve or sixteen, ounce depending where you're, at by
the time you get to the last few, ounces it's
as hot as. Blazes you don't want to drink. It
so we make them. Small you, know they used to
(01:27:01):
be eight. OUNCES i guess they're ten ouncers. Now.
Speaker 4 (01:27:03):
YEAH i wondered about that because WHEN i first, mean
they're giving these things away like all over the, place
like anytime we were on a boat or.
Speaker 3 (01:27:11):
An island or, whatever they're, like oh here.
Speaker 4 (01:27:13):
Man AND i went in WHEN i went into you,
know a couple of the, Stores i'm, like why is
even The miller lights everything was ten?
Speaker 3 (01:27:21):
Ounces i'm, like what is up with? This but if
you got a, bottle they're Twelve no.
Speaker 1 (01:27:26):
Are they showing? Okay are they showing it in grocery stores,
store you, know the the drug store and.
Speaker 3 (01:27:34):
You, know, yeah but it's not, bad it's.
Speaker 5 (01:27:39):
Good, ye it's because of the, heat, Right, so but you,
know it makes.
Speaker 6 (01:27:42):
Sense by the time you get down to the last
few ounces of a standard twelve ounce or sixteen. Ouncers
the heat has turned that beer into like rank piss.
Speaker 1 (01:27:52):
Water so.
Speaker 6 (01:27:56):
You, know we we sell it to you in small
packages so that you by the time you get to
the last it's still cold, enough that's still.
Speaker 3 (01:28:03):
Palatable all, Right so how much of a six pack
or can or, like, like you, KNOW.
Speaker 5 (01:28:08):
I don't know how much a six pack. Is mike
just bought. It, mike you tell, us do you?
Speaker 4 (01:28:14):
Remember it wasn't, Much AND i got a twelve pack for.
You i'm going to bring up to panvention so that
that's right over. There but they had like a six
pack left of, bottle SO i grabbed it BECAUSE i
never had the. Bottles everything down there was in the. Cans,
yeah but it's it's just as much as like like
(01:28:35):
a typical domestic light beer or. Whatever there's not a
big difference between at least for me Where i'm, sorry
WHERE i am buying, it and, uh they have it
at the beer store near, me and it's it's. Comparable
it's it's normally it's not expensive like buying a CRAFT
i p. A but it's it's not you, know dirt
(01:28:57):
cheap like Buying Natty light.
Speaker 3 (01:28:59):
Or something like.
Speaker 6 (01:28:59):
That so Normally Puerto, rico if you go to a,
bar you're paying a dollar for a light in The
so you're paying a buck from a light in the
can you know you. Can't you can't buy a course
light for a buck anywhere you.
Speaker 1 (01:29:15):
Used to be able to BUY pbr for a. Quarter,
ye But i'm dating myself back when how is your?
Speaker 3 (01:29:20):
Age and now she's telling us you' all drinking drinking too?
Speaker 6 (01:29:25):
SLOWLY i, LISTEN i am not denying, that but you
have to remember we are also on island, time and
island is very.
Speaker 5 (01:29:36):
Slow mike will tell you he was just down.
Speaker 3 (01:29:38):
There, yep we.
Speaker 5 (01:29:40):
We it's if we tell you, noon we really, mean,
like you, know forty.
Speaker 1 (01:29:45):
Five noon is. NOON i was just going to, say
so here like, here may we call It i'm on
fire department. Time IF i Say i'm going to be
home for, Seven i'm going to be home for eight maybe? Eight?
Speaker 3 (01:29:58):
Dirty so?
Speaker 1 (01:29:59):
Sore is that same concept that it sounds, like, yeah m,
hm you know it's.
Speaker 5 (01:30:06):
The island is a very laid back.
Speaker 6 (01:30:08):
Place it definitely it's a clash for me BECAUSE I
i've gotten a very much accustomed to the idea of
WHEN i say, ONE i mean, one and in, REALITY
i mean twelve forty.
Speaker 1 (01:30:21):
Five.
Speaker 6 (01:30:22):
Right and WHEN i Say i'm rolling at, ONE i
don't mean we're gonna get all your bags in the
car at. ONE i mean your crap better beat hard at,
one because at one my foot is on the gas
In Puerto. Rico WHEN i say one, O'CLOCK i mean
(01:30:43):
we'll have your bags loaded by two o'clock, maybe and
then We'll.
Speaker 1 (01:30:50):
Now it's just it's just because of your. Parachuting when
the pilot says it's, go.
Speaker 3 (01:30:55):
You've got to, go there is no.
Speaker 6 (01:30:57):
Pilot, no it's long be for that is The, army
in The, army in the, Service, Okay i'm broadly, speaking
because The Air force is in, there and so Is Space,
force and so is then and so is The Coast.
Speaker 1 (01:31:11):
Guard and, Wow, Carlos, carlos you really know how to you, know,
well you, know.
Speaker 3 (01:31:20):
Loick someoney on the.
Speaker 6 (01:31:21):
KNEECAP i mean the fact is in The Air, force
when you say thirteen, hundred you mean.
Speaker 5 (01:31:30):
That's tea, time maybe fifteen, hundred. Okay where in The,
army and then in The navy and The, marines when
you say thirteen, hundred it means you better be ready
at twelve forty, five AND i mean ready on the,
line good to, go Because i'm going to call hi
(01:31:51):
attention at thirteen hundred and we're going it's.
Speaker 3 (01:31:53):
Gone, yeah, RIGHT i didn't know that earlier on.
Speaker 1 (01:31:56):
Time they.
Speaker 5 (01:31:58):
Can't they, can't, Right they're, officers in the other, hand
are capable of doing.
Speaker 1 (01:32:05):
That but you know that's why they have A navy
corman with.
Speaker 5 (01:32:07):
Them except don't, forget The marines are just a part
of The. NAVY. Mm they like to say that they're
on the they're their own, thing but they're. Not they're
just part of The.
Speaker 1 (01:32:18):
Navy apartment of The. Navy we'll let you.
Speaker 3 (01:32:21):
Decide, Carlos, carlos have you ever operated on six meters
or six?
Speaker 1 (01:32:31):
Meters?
Speaker 5 (01:32:31):
Yes one point two gig, No.
Speaker 1 (01:32:35):
I'm, sorry, continue please. Continue so you, KNOW.
Speaker 6 (01:32:41):
I in my, family punctuality has always been a, thing,
right and it is by no means a fluke of,
things BECAUSE i have several uncles that were military or
police or fire so.
Speaker 5 (01:33:02):
You, know we were a little.
Speaker 6 (01:33:04):
Different so When i'm even WHEN i was living In Puerto,
rico WHEN i said one, O'CLOCK i meant one. O'clock,
MAN i don't mean one on, ONE i mean one,
o'clock and be ready to go at one o'clock because
if you're not there at one, O'clock i'm leaving you
and And i'll go by you when you're going down to, hill, Going, hey.
Speaker 1 (01:33:24):
What a, minute what?
Speaker 5 (01:33:25):
Happened pray for, me and, like, no you weren't here on.
Speaker 1 (01:33:28):
Time if you're earlier on. Time if you're on, time you're.
Late if you're, late you're.
Speaker 3 (01:33:32):
Fired.
Speaker 6 (01:33:33):
Exactly, yeah you know. That that's where we, are so
getting To steve's, point because you, KNOW i don't want.
To you, know we have eighty seven people here and
they might care about their.
Speaker 5 (01:33:50):
TIME i don't. Know they're, here they can't they can't
care that.
Speaker 1 (01:33:54):
Much, no because they're here because they have nothing else
a better to do tonight On tuesday. Night that's HOW
i look at.
Speaker 3 (01:34:00):
IT i got to do.
Speaker 1 (01:34:01):
That that's why we're all, here so just to hang
out and have.
Speaker 5 (01:34:04):
Fun i'm gonna make a short video about, this But
i'll break it. Here do do do do do do? Do?
Speaker 3 (01:34:11):
Here, here where's the where's the drum The Joe brett drum?
Speaker 1 (01:34:15):
Roll? Please? Exactly? Yeah you, know excuse.
Speaker 5 (01:34:20):
Me this is WHERE i say to those of you
in the audience that have said in the, Past oh, Gee,

nine and thank, you sir.
Speaker 5 (01:36:07):
One it's like.
Speaker 6 (01:36:08):
This nothing compares to skydiving other than the very very
very first.
Speaker 5 (01:36:17):
Time and we know what that. Means so we know
it's been a very long time. Since if you experienced
the very very first, time it's time to have that experience. Again,
Right it's that.
Speaker 6 (01:36:34):
Simple so you can go To Scott's cincinnati's website book
a tandem For friday the. Sixteenth that's the only Day
i'm doing. TANDEMS i am not doing tandems On. SATURDAY
i am not doing tandems On. SUNDAY i don't care

Speaker 5 (01:37:37):
Forth we're doing. Five that's.
Speaker 3 (01:37:41):
It CAN i ask you a?
Speaker 1 (01:37:43):
Question, yeah, absolutely, WELL i appreciate the five, slots and,
guys that's not gonna be, me so it's not even
gonna go. There so but just a general, question does
that take a Lot Audio carlos to, go you, know
successfully five times in such a short. Time you, know
you have an hour to, do get playing back up
(01:38:03):
and you, know get everyone lined.
Speaker 5 (01:38:05):
Up not really right at my home drop, ZONE i
normally do two an.
Speaker 6 (01:38:09):
Hour, okay so in the middle of. Summer but but you,
KNOW i don't know If nate's on here tonight or.

saw me working and he's, like, man you're putting in.
Speaker 5 (01:38:31):
Work And i'm, like, Yeah i'm putting in.
Speaker 3 (01:38:33):
Work so here we go.
Speaker 1 (01:38:34):
Again where WHEN i tell you tell you one, o'clock
you better be here for twelve forty five because, yeah
where one?
Speaker 5 (01:38:41):
O'clock you, know like one o'clock is takeoff, time so
take off? Time, yeah so noon is takeoff.
Speaker 6 (01:38:46):
Time that means you get there at eleven and you
sign the waiver and we get your you, know everything
ready And i'll put a.
Speaker 1 (01:38:52):
Hard process right and so on and so.
Speaker 5 (01:38:55):
Forth uh so.
Speaker 6 (01:38:58):
Uh someone asked to about the weight. Limit the weight
limit is simple two hundred and forty pounds the drop.
Zone As Skoda cincinnati has a small, airplane it means
that in order for me to get you out of the,
door you have to be small enough THAT i can
squeeze you through the, door and the door is not
much bigger than. Me SO i can't take anybody above
(01:39:20):
two forty you know if you're how about?
Speaker 5 (01:39:24):
THIS i took a two hundred and eighty pound linebacker
from The colts out of a similar airplane in twenty twenty.
Speaker 3 (01:39:36):
Two how was that that you go? OUTSIDE i, mean
how do?
Speaker 1 (01:39:40):
You how do?
Speaker 6 (01:39:41):
YOU i had to get the pilot to grab hit
this guy's leg and shove it around and push it
out the.
Speaker 5 (01:39:49):
Door and at the same TIME i had TO i,
LOOKED i looked at the pilot and, said give me a.
Speaker 3 (01:39:56):

go and the you, know the drop cent owner looked
at me and, SAYS i can't take.
Speaker 5 (01:40:33):
Him i'm too, Big like between the two of us

Speaker 6 (01:40:36):

Speaker 5 (01:40:41):

get him out the. Door at the, door we landed.
Safely you. Know we, Oh mike dropped. Off they just
dropped to the, back, Okay.
Speaker 6 (01:40:58):

Right he's. Muscular but it's still a small. Door and
When i'm occupying half the door for someone else to
kind of get their limbs in and then swing out

(01:41:20):

well Because dayton's the only place you haven't been allowed to, Jump.
Speaker 6 (01:47:19):
Uh, exactly So i've jumped At. Huntsville the drop zone
in south Of huntsville is. Fantastic, yes the drop zone
just south of The Xenia.
Speaker 5 (01:47:34):
Camp what do you call?
Speaker 6 (01:47:35):
It The fairgrounds hasn't allowed me to do tandos, there
and you, KNOW i had an issue there last year
with load, capacity AND i was talking to a friend
of mine about.
Speaker 5 (01:47:46):
It he, says why don't you go To scout Of?
Cincinnati AND i went where he.
Speaker 6 (01:47:51):
Was scout Of cincinnati is another forty minutes down the,
road and they have the capacity to take you up
and they're not going to give you any, crap and
it's a really cool drops one any, Way And i'm,
like you wait a.
Speaker 5 (01:48:01):
Minute SO.
Speaker 6 (01:48:04):
I talked to, THEM i made the arrangements and they're,
like come on. Down we we got. You you, know
we know that what we're trying to do is a little,
different not a big. Deal if you are going to
do the tandems that you're, bringing. Cool if they want,
tandems will take care of. Them but if they want
to do a tandem with, you you can handle.
Speaker 1 (01:48:24):
That not a.
Speaker 6 (01:48:25):
Problem so that's that's where we are. There you, Go,
wow so very, accommodating very nice. People it's a smaller.
Airplane it's a two o, five not they you, KNOW
i jump out of a, best no super grand. Caravan
at my home drop, ZONE i jump out of a
pack seven Fifteen. Huntsville at last YEAR i jumped out
(01:48:49):
Of cessna one eighty two and in Near. Xenia so you,
know the two of five is not much bigger than
one eight, two so we have limitations. There it only
goes to ten thousand. Eet that's all, Right But.
Speaker 1 (01:49:07):
I'm just gonna ask, you minus any do you prefer
the smaller plane or do you prefer a little start
and start at like what almost fifteen?
Speaker 6 (01:49:16):
THOUSAND i prefer the bigger planes just because they get
to altitude, faster they get to a higher. Altitude so
the two of five and the one eight twos of
the world drop zones running in that world are going
to generally run at nine, thousand five hundred feet exit altitude.
Speaker 5 (01:49:31):
Above crown, level, okay, right.
Speaker 6 (01:49:37):
And drop SOMs with a turboprop like my home drop
zone In scott Of alabama and the and the like
are going to take you to fourteen, thousand five hundred,
feet oh, okay and and like fourteen to five in
twelve minutes versus nine to five and a half.
Speaker 1 (01:49:55):
Hour mm.
Speaker 5 (01:49:56):
Hmm so the right to. Altitude you, know on a
one eighty two or two five takes a bit. Longer
it's a piston.
Speaker 1 (01:50:03):
Engine, now let me ask, you you're still releasing the
shoot at a certain altitude.
Speaker 5 (01:50:10):
Right At i'm still.
Speaker 6 (01:50:12):
Releasing it's like When i'm doing parachute, Mobile i'm releasing
the parachute basically as soon AS i clear the tail
of the. Airplane, okay If i'm doing a, tandem Then i'm.
Releasing typically releasing the parachute at five, thousand five hundred.
Feet if we're gonna do a little bit of parachute,
mobile Then i'll release it at seven, thousand maybe seven,
thousand five hundred.
Speaker 5 (01:50:31):
Fet you have a little extra time to play, radio
but that's up to.
Speaker 6 (01:50:34):
You right if you want to do the freefall, experience
we're going to do free fall to five to, Five
and if you want to do the parasute mobile, experience
then you, know let you have a few seconds of
free fall and then to play the.
Speaker 5 (01:50:45):
Parachute what do you.
Speaker 1 (01:50:46):
Like to, Do, Carlos do you like that free fall
time or that or that time to play you, know
regardless of that time alt do you like?
Speaker 3 (01:50:53):
THAT i would call Your carlos time of.
Speaker 5 (01:50:56):
When When i'm going for a. Jump for, me even
When i'm not doing pair.
Speaker 6 (01:51:00):
Shoe, Mobile i'm going to deploy high BECAUSE i enjoy
sitting in the parachute and flying the.
Speaker 5 (01:51:07):
Parachute and Just.
Speaker 6 (01:51:10):
Steve will tell, You frank will tell you who else
HAVE i taken The and they will tell you that
once you open that parachute you can hear a pin.
Drop really the, quiet the quiet and the, solitude and
(01:51:30):
it's and And i'm not you, know going out of
bounds here saying it is.
Speaker 5 (01:51:37):
Magical it is, ah it's glorious to be in an
in an airspace where all you hear is a little
bit of wind, noise just just a hair of wind,
noise and.
Speaker 6 (01:51:53):
It's so quiet and. Peaceful you can you can be
very happy at, altitude especially on like like that's the.
Sunrise but if you are parachuting that into a sunset
and you're just hanging out enjoying the, view it's. Gorgeous
(01:52:14):
it's it's it's meditative to a point WHERE i can't
EVEN i.
Speaker 1 (01:52:19):
Was just gonna, say almost like the solitude of the,
meute it must be. Incredible then it is a gorgeous.
Thing lets just, say sunrise jumps and sunset jumps.
Speaker 6 (01:52:27):
Are, yeah sunrise jumps unset jumps are nothing short of awe.
Inspiring IT'S i don't get to do very many sunrise jumps.
Anymore my home Drop zone doesn't do sunrise jumps very.
Speaker 5 (01:52:39):
MUCH i think we've done two in the last ten years.
Speaker 3 (01:52:45):
At the.
Speaker 5 (01:52:46):
Home at the Drop stone THAT i learned, at we
would have double sunrise. Jumps and how do you get
to the double? Sunrise how do you do?
Speaker 2 (01:52:55):
That?
Speaker 6 (01:52:56):
Yeah you get in the airplane about four twenty minutes before, sunrise,
okay and you climb to fourteen thousand feet and you
loiter at fourteen thousand feet until the sunrise is at
fourteen thousand. Feet you exit the airplane and you're enjoying that.
Sunrise and then because you're lowering in, altitude you see
(01:53:18):
the sunset in the.
Speaker 5 (01:53:19):
East oh my, god, YES i get.
Speaker 3 (01:53:22):
It, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:53:23):
Yes and then as you.
Speaker 6 (01:53:24):
Deploy the parachute and you're hanging out on the, parachute
now the sun is starting to actually rise at the
altitude you're, in and you see a second, sunrise and
it is it to see the sunlight actually catch from you,
know say six thousand feet and you see it a
line in the distance moving like a tidal wave towards.
Speaker 5 (01:53:48):
You. Wo, wow it is out of the. World so, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:54:03):
I'm thinking we gotta Put carlos up to the.
Speaker 1 (01:54:07):
MOON i was gonna, say what's the highest sky That
i've in recorded?
Speaker 6 (01:54:14):
HISTORY i think it Was Alan houst just did a
one hundred and thirty four thousand. FEET i think before
that it Was Felix baumgartner and HE i want to
see what he did one hundred and twenty seven thousand.
Speaker 3 (01:54:26):
Feet i've seen that. One that that was like The
Red bull, one, right, yeah The Red, bull The Red bull.
ONE i remember that. One, yeah, Yeah Red.
Speaker 1 (01:54:33):
Bull gets in trouble for their skydives.
Speaker 3 (01:54:37):
Quite.
Speaker 1 (01:54:37):
REGULARLY i might, add, yeah plane to plane transfers or
that's that's just.
Speaker 6 (01:54:45):
Insane let's See alan used to skydive one hundred and
thirty five and ninety.
Speaker 5 (01:54:53):
Feet oh, YEAH i.
Speaker 3 (01:54:58):
CAN'T i can't even FATH i can't even fathom that.
Speaker 5 (01:55:01):
Hole, yeah it's it's a long way.
Speaker 6 (01:55:07):
DOWN i can tell you That i'm the highest kind
of twenty three thousand, feet And.
Speaker 5 (01:55:14):
I'm not.
Speaker 6 (01:55:14):
JOKING i was tired of free fall by the TIME
i got to ten thousand, FEET i was, like is
this gonna?
Speaker 5 (01:55:20):
End is this going to? End is this how LONG i?
Speaker 3 (01:55:24):
Had what was what was your? Duration you know what you're? Doing,
like how long were you up?
Speaker 6 (01:55:28):
There it was just over two minutes of free fall
being in that position for that length of. Time, right
it gets on your.
Speaker 5 (01:55:37):
Body.
Speaker 1 (01:55:38):
Man it's.
Speaker 6 (01:55:41):
See jason's asking about wings to. Jumps, Yes i've done
wings to. JUMPS i THINK i have about twenty five
or twenty six wings it. Jumps the Longest i've gotten
on a wingsuit jump was almost three minutes from fourteen thousand.
Feet that, yeah wingsuits will extend your your flight a
long time.
Speaker 1 (01:56:03):
Now and is that experience? Mentally obviously that's gonna be different? Then? Right?
Speaker 3 (01:56:08):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (01:56:08):
ABSOLUTELY i, mean, uh give me one, Second mic ask
IF i jumped from THE dc. THREE i have not
jump from WITH dc. Three it's on my list of
things if three of you, Know, well, yeah BUT i
have to fly To california THE dB Cooper JUMP.
Speaker 5 (01:56:32):
D nine or something like.
Speaker 6 (01:56:33):
That oh, yeah, YEAH i Think skate Of arizona HAS dc.
Three so the wingsuit is very.
Speaker 5 (01:56:42):
Different the.
Speaker 6 (01:56:43):
Wingsuit you are an active, pilot so you it's you're
putting your body in a in a very.
Speaker 5 (01:56:52):
Uh what do you call a very active?
Speaker 6 (01:56:54):
Position, uh think of it as a plank with your
arms to the side where you're trying to get the
wingsuit itself to inflate properly and give you the most,
lift all while trying to keep the right you, know
angle of an angle of attack to get the most
(01:57:15):
glide out of, it and at the end have to
flare it and pop up so you can actually gain
altitude towards the end because you have to bleed off
the forward speed before you deploy the, parachute otherwise you're
gonna have a really rough.
Speaker 5 (01:57:33):
Opening ask me HOW i, know, All.
Speaker 3 (01:57:38):
Oh, yeah that's a self correcting.
Speaker 6 (01:57:41):
Error, well you, know when you're learning how to, wingsuit
you don't know how to flare. IT i, mean you
can learn techniques on the, ground you, know to an,
extent but there's no teacher like the real. World, well you,
know my first couple of wingsuit, JUMPS i would, say
my first probably ten, jumps the openings were, like, oh
(01:58:02):
doing this to.
Speaker 5 (01:58:02):
Myself.
Speaker 1 (01:58:06):
That's what we're expecting with the jump.
Speaker 5 (01:58:08):
With, me although your obdy the we had was super.
Speaker 1 (01:58:13):
Soft, yeah that was a great. Opening it took a little,
bit but, yeah but Thankfully i'm.
Speaker 5 (01:58:21):
Handled, no, okay good.
Speaker 4 (01:58:25):
Now with the with the wing suit and here Here
i'll bring it back to the ham radio. Ship could
you could you put like something like that that like you,
know like uh copper tape far day tape mm hmm
on on the wings then and then maybe you you
have in my head you'd have to linear load, it
(01:58:49):
but you could have like a linear loaded six meters
diepole on your wings.
Speaker 6 (01:58:55):
Definitely it's kind OF i don't know THAT i would
want to sew on a on a three thousand dollars.
Speaker 3 (01:59:04):
Wing, suit but.
Speaker 1 (01:59:09):
Well it's all the.
Speaker 3 (01:59:10):
Money see here we.
Speaker 1 (01:59:11):
Go the other thing there, Is, yeah you're not gonna
play radio until you have a parachute above.
Speaker 5 (01:59:20):
You, exactly you don't want to play radio until you
have a parachute.
Speaker 1 (01:59:24):
Of the wingsuit. Opens, yeah what do you get? Unzip,
yeah you have.
Speaker 6 (01:59:31):
To you have to unzip to get to the handles
because like it it really kind of cocoons. You you
can't get your hands over your. Head so you, know
the process for a wingsuit is you have to you,
know you look up being like, okay that's that that
wing sort of works or works, right and then you
unzip your, arms and then after you unzip your, arms
(01:59:51):
you make sure you have a properly, wing and then
you unzip your legs and then you, know we call
wingsuits men in dress because mostly men that fly, wingsuits
we're mostly men that skydive in, general because we're that.
Speaker 1 (02:00:06):
Dumb that's why women live.
Speaker 5 (02:00:09):
Longer, YES i, MEAN.
Speaker 6 (02:00:14):
I mean there's a there's probably fifteen percent of the
skydiving population as. Women and and the thing is that
the fifteen percent that are, women their legit badasses of the.
Sky they put any one of us to.
Speaker 1 (02:00:28):
Shame m hmmm.
Speaker 5 (02:00:32):
Uh, Ed, yes it is the, proper proper.
Speaker 1 (02:00:35):
Chest, yeah we're talking about a lot of on zip
and here AND i, well but you know, what you know,
WHAT i think more women don't get into skydiving because
that centennial jump why what was he?
Speaker 3 (02:00:51):
Wearing?
Speaker 5 (02:00:52):
No you, know the hundredth jump is traditionally a naked. Jump.
Speaker 1 (02:00:58):
Oh we've talked to about this, before.
Speaker 6 (02:01:02):
And i'm here to tell you, nothing AND i mean
nothing looks good at one hundred and twenty miles an
hour when you're.
Speaker 5 (02:01:07):
NAKED i my one hundredth. Jumped there was a lady in,
it AND i, thought, OH i get this, here and
it was just like that looks looks fun at all.
Speaker 3 (02:01:19):
That way kind of. Going that thing was flopping to the,
right and the other one, was.
Speaker 5 (02:01:23):
Well you, know and my thing was going this doing
this between my legs, right and believe it or, not
it bruises right because it's banking side to. Side you,
know we're all gonna have.
Speaker 1 (02:01:34):
Nightmare listen if you're listening on the, podcast slow down
your vehicle if you're driving and listening for. This, Yes,
jody we have talked about the ballistic profile as.
Speaker 5 (02:01:45):
Well you, know you got to pee about an hour
later and you don't realize that it's. Bruising you bred
like with.
Speaker 3 (02:01:55):
IT i Think i'm gonna have nightmares tonight WHEN i, go,
yeah that's your.
Speaker 1 (02:02:06):
Hundred you've got a ways to. Go you got a
long ways to, go And, jbi it's after the two hour,
marks so it's fair game.
Speaker 5 (02:02:17):
At oh.
Speaker 6 (02:02:25):
My so as you, go there's your breaking. News and
if you don't want to, jump that's fine. Too you
can always come to the drop zone and watch me
jump and enjoy the. Camaraderie of the drop. Zone it's
a fun. Time steve will tell you absolutely it. Is
if you don't come to the dropt, ZONE i guarantee
you one, Thing you're not going to be able to
(02:02:47):
artake on the after hours drop zone. Things Asked steve about.
Speaker 5 (02:02:51):
That last year At. HUNTSVILLE i, didn't you, KNOW i
didn't know.
Speaker 6 (02:02:55):
It WHEN i went to the dropt zone to, jump
one of the guys was a smoking. Pork he'd been
smoking pork for like thirty six. Hours, yeah and like
proper Good southern. Barbecue AND i got a message From steve, going,
hey you're gonna be back a month TO si anytime.
Speaker 1 (02:03:14):

Speaker 5 (02:03:14):
Man i'm, Like i'm, Dude i'm chowing down with some
