by Sam Stinson, Chapter thirty one. And Moses went and
(00:20):
spake these words unto all Israel. And he said, unto them,
I am a hundred and twenty years old. This day
I can no more go out and come in. And
Jehovah hath said unto me, thou shalt not go over
this Jordan. Jehovah, thy God, he will go over before THEE.
He will destroy these nations from before THEE, and thou
(00:43):
shalt dispossess them. And Joshua, he shall go over before
THEE as Jehovah hath spoken. And Jehovah will do unto
them as he did to Sihn and to Og the
kings of the Amorites, and unto their land whom he destroyed.
And Jehovah will deliver them up before you, and ye
shall do unto them according unto all the commandment which
(01:04):
I have commanded. You be strong and of good courage,
fear not nor be affrighted at them. For Jehovah thy God,
he it is that doth go with thee, he will
not fail thee, nor forsake thee. And Moses called unto
Joshua and said, unto him, and the sight of all Israel,
(01:24):
be strong and of good courage, for thou shalt go
with this people into the land which Jehovah hath sworn
unto their fathers to give them, and thou shalt cause
them to inherit it. And Jehovah he it is that
doth go before thee, he will be with thee. He
will not fail thee, neither forsake thee. Fear not, neither
(01:46):
be dismayed. And Moses wrote this law and delivered it
unto the priests, the sons of Levi that bear the
ark of the Covenant of Jehovah, and unto all the
elders of Israel. And Moses commanded them, saying, at the
end of every seven years and the time set of
the year of Release and the feast of Tabernacles, when
(02:07):
all israel is come to appear before Jehovah thy God,
in the place which ye shall choose, thou shalt read
this law before all Israel in their hearing. Assemble the people,
the men, and the women, and the little ones, and
thy sojourner that is within thy gates, that they may hear,
and that they may learn and fear Jehovah your God,
and observe to do all the words of this law,
(02:29):
and that their children, who have not known, may hear
and learn to fear Jehovah your God. As long as
ye live in the land, whither ye go over the
Jordan to possess it. And Jehovah said, unto Moses, behold,
thy days approach, that thou must die. Call Joshua and
(02:50):
present yourselves in the tent of meeting, that I may
give him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went and
presented themselves in the tent of meeting, and Jehovah appeared
in the tent in a pillar of cloud. And the
pillar of cloud stood over the door of the tent,
and Jehovah said, unto Moses, behold, thou shalt sleep with
(03:10):
thy fathers. And this people will rise up and play
the harlot after the strange gods of the land. Whither
they go to be among them, and will forsake me
and break my covenant which I have made with them.
Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day,
and I will forsake them, and I will hide my
face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many
(03:32):
evils and troubles shall come upon them, so that they
will say, in that day, are not these evils come
upon us? Because our God is not among us? And
I will surely hide my face in that day for
all the evil which they shall have wrought in that
they are turned unto other gods. Now, therefore, write ye
(03:55):
this song for you, and teach thou it the children
of Israel put it in their mouths, that this song
may be a witness for me against the children of Israel.
For when I shall have brought them into the land
which I swear unto their fathers, flowing with milk and honey,
and they shall have eaten and filled themselves and waxed fat,
(04:20):
then will they turn unto other gods and serve them
and despise me and break my covenant. And it shall
come to pass, when many evils and troubles are come
upon them, that this song shall testify before them as
a witness, for it shall not be forgotten out of
the mouths of their seed. For I know their imagination
which they frame this day before I have brought them
(04:43):
into the land which I swear. So Moses wrote this
song the same day and taught it the children of Israel,
and he gave Joshua, the son of None, a charge,
and said, be strong and of good courage, for thou
shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which
I swear unto them, and I will be with thee.
(05:04):
And it came to pass when Moses had made an
end of writing the words of this law in a
book until they were finished, that Moses commanded the Levites
that bear the ark of the Covenant of Jehovah, saying,
take this book of the law and put it by
the side of the ark of the Covenant of Jehovah,
your God, that it may be therefore a witness against THEE.
For I know thy rebellion and thy stiff neck. Behold,
(05:29):
while I am yet alive with you, this day, ye
have been rebellious against Jehovah. And how much more, after
my death, assemble unto me all the elders of your
tribes and your officers, that I may speak these words
in their ears and call heaven and earth to witness
against them. For I know that after my death, ye
will utterly corrupt yourselves and turn aside from the way
(05:51):
which I have commanded you. And evil will befall you
in the latter days, because ye will do that which
is evil in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him
to anger through the work of your hands. And Moses
spake in the ears of all the assembly of Israel
the words of this song until they were finished. End
of Chapter thirty one, Chapter thirty two. Give ear ye, heavens,
(06:15):
and I will speak, and let the earth hear the
words of my mouth. My doctrine shall drop as the rain.
My speech shall distill as the dew, as the small
rain upon the tender grass, and as the showers upon
the herb. For I will proclaim the name of Jehovah.
Ascribe ye greatness unto our God, the Rock. His work
(06:39):
is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A god
of faithfulness, and without iniquity. Just and right is he.
They have dealt corruptly with him. They are not his children.
It is their blemish. They are a perverse and crooked generation.
Do ye thus requite Jehovah foolish people and unwise? Is
(07:02):
not he thy father, that hath bought thee. He hath
made thee and established thee. Remember the days of old,
consider the years of many generations. Ask thy Father, and
he will show thee thine elders, and they will tell THEE.
When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance,
(07:23):
when he separated the children of men, he set the
bounds of the peoples according to the number of the
children of Israel. For Jehovah's portion is his people. Jacob
is the lot of his inheritance. He found him in
a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness. He
compassed him about, he cared for him. He kept him
(07:44):
as the apple of his eye, as an eagle that
stirreth up her nest, that fluttereth over her young. He
spread abroad his wings, he took them, he bare them
on his pinions. Jehovah alone did lead him, and there
was no foreign god withhis him. He made him ride
on the high places of the earth, and he did
(08:04):
eat the increase of the field, and he made him
to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out
of the flinty rock, butter of the herd, and milk
of the flock, with fat of lambs and rams of
the breed of bat and goats, with the finest of
the wheat, and of the blood of the grape. Thou
drankest wine. But Jassurin waxed fat and kicked. Thou Art
(08:31):
waxed fat, Thou art grown thick, thou Art becomes sleek.
Then he forsook God who made him, and lightly esteemed
the rock of his salvation. They moved him to jealousy
with strange gods, with abominations provoked. They him to anger.
They sacrificed unto demons which were no God, to gods
(08:52):
that they knew, not to knew, gods that came up
of late, which your fathers dreaded. Not the rock that
begat thee. Thou art unmindful and hast forgotten God that
gave thee birth. And Jehovah saw it and abhorred them
because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.
(09:13):
And he said, I will hide my faith from them.
I will see what their end shall be, For they
are a very perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness.
They have moved me to jealousy with that which is
not God. They have provoked me to anger with their vanities.
And I will move them to jealousy with those that
(09:33):
are not a people. And I will provoke them to
anger with a foolish nation. For a fire is kindled
in mine anger and burneth unto the lowest shehle, and
devoureth the earth with its increase, and setteth on fire
the foundations of the mountains. I will heap evils upon them.
I will spend mine arrows upon them. They shall be
(09:54):
wasted with hunger, and devoured with burning heat and bitter destruction.
And the teeth of beasts will I send upon them,
with the poison of crawling things of the dust. Without
shall the sword bereave, And in the chambers terror it
shall destroy both young man and virgin, the suckling with
the man of gray hairs, I said I would scatter
(10:16):
them afar, I would make the remembrance of them to
cease from among men. Were it not that I feared
the provocation of the enemy, lest their adversaries should judge amiss,
lest they should say our hand is exalted, and Jehovah
hath not done all this. For they are a nation
void of council. And there is no understanding in them,
(10:37):
Oh that they were wise, that they understood this, that
they would consider their latter end. How should one chase
a thousand and two put ten thousand to flight, except
their roc had sold them and Jehovah had delivered them up.
For their rock is not as our rock, even our
enemies themselves being judges. For their vine is of the
(11:00):
vine of Sodom and of the fields of Gomorrah. Their
grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter, their
wine is the poison of serpents, and the cruel venom
of asps Is not this laid up in store with me,
sealed up among my treasures. Vengeance is mine, and recompense
(11:21):
at the time when their foot shall slide, For the
day of their calamity is at hand, and the things
that are to come upon them shall make haste. For
Jehovah will judge his people and repent himself for his
servants when he seeth that their power is gone and
there is none remaining shut up or left it large,
and he will say, where are their gods the rock
(11:44):
in which they took refuge, which did eat the fat
of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offering.
Let them rise up and help you. Let them be
your protection. See now that I even I am he
and there is no god with me. I kill and
I make alive. I wound and I heal, and there
(12:05):
is none that can deliver out of my hand. For
I lift up my hand to heaven and say, as
I live forever. If I wet my glittering sword and
my hand take hold on judgment, I will render vengeance
to mine adversaries, and will recompense them that hate me.
I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, and my
(12:27):
sword shall devour flesh with the blood of the slain
and the captives from the head of the leaders of
the enemy. Rejoice, O, ye nations with his people, for
he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will
render vengeance to his adversaries, and will make expiation for
his land for his people. And Moses came and spake
(12:48):
all the words of this song in the ears of
the people. He and Hoshea, the son of None, and
Moses made an end of speaking all these words to
all Israel, and he said unto them, set your heart
unto all the words which I testify unto you this day,
which ye shall command your children to observe, to do
even all the words of this law. For it is
(13:11):
no vain thing for you, because it is your life.
And through this thing ye shall prolong your days in
the land whither ye go over the Jordan to possess it.
And Jehovah spake unto Moses that self same day, saying,
get thee up into this mountain of Abiram unto Mount Nebo,
which is in the land of Moab, that is over
(13:32):
against Jericho, and behold the land of Canaan, which I
give unto the children of Israel for a possession. And
die in the mount whither thou goest up and be
gathered unto thy people, as E'ern thy brother died in
Mount Hor and was gathered unto his people. Because Ye
trespassed against me in the midst of the children of
(13:54):
Israel at the waters of Marabah of Kadish, in the
wilderness of Zin, because he sanctified me, not in the
midst of the children of Israel. For thou shalt see
the land before thee, but thou shalt not go thither
into the land which I give the children of Israel.
End of Chapter thirty two, Chapter thirty three. And this
(14:16):
is the blessing wherewith Moses, the man of God, blessed
the children of Israel before his death. And he said,
Jehovah came from Sinai and rose from seir unto them.
He shined forth from Mount Paran, and he came from
the ten thousands of holy ones. At his right hand
was a fiery law for them. Yea, he loveth the people.
(14:40):
All his saints are in thy hand, and they sat
down at thy feet. Every one shall receive of thy words.
Moses commanded us a law an inheritance for the assembly
of Jacob, and he was king and Jesharin when the
heads of the people were gathered all the tribes of
Israel together. Let Reuben live and not die, nor let
(15:03):
his men be few. And this is the blessing of Judah.
And he said, here Jehovah, the voice of Judah, and
bring him in unto his people. With his hands. He
contended for himself, and thou shalt be a help against
his adversaries, and of Levi. He said, thy Thumim and
thy Urim are with thy godly one, whom thou didst
(15:26):
prove at Massa, with whom thou didst strive at the
waters of Marabah. Who said, of his father and of
his mother, I have not seen him. Neither did he
acknowledge his brethren, nor knew he his own children. For
they have observed thy word and keep thy covenant. They
shall teach Jacob Thine ordinances and Israel thy law. They
(15:46):
shall put incense before thee and whole burnt offering upon
Thine altar. Bless Jehovah his substance, and accept the work
of his hands. Smite through the loins of them that
rise up against him, and of them that hate him,
that they rise not again. Of Benjamin, he said, the
beloved of Jehovah shall dwell in safety by him. He
(16:08):
covereth him all the day long, and he dwelleth between
his shoulders. And of Joseph, he said, Blessed of Jehovah,
be his land, for the precious things of heaven, for
the dew and for the deep that coucheth beneath, and
for the precious things of the fruits of the sun,
and for the precious things of the growth of the moons,
(16:31):
and for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and
for the precious things of the everlasting hills, and for
the precious things of the earth, and the fullness thereof
and the good will of Him that dwelt in the bush.
Let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, and
upon the crown of the head of him that was
separate from his brethren. The firstling of his herd, majesty
(16:56):
is his, and his horns are the horns of the
wild ox. With them he shall push the peoples, all
of them, even the ends of the earth. And they
are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the
thousands of Manassa and of Zebulen. He said, rejoice Zebulen
in thy going out, and Isakar in thy tents. They
(17:18):
shall call the peoples unto the mountain. There shall they
offer sacrifices of righteousness, for they shall suck the abundance
of the seas and the hidden treasures of the sand.
And of God. He said, blessed be he that enlargeth God.
He dwelleth as a lioness, and teareth the arm yea
(17:40):
the crown of the head. And he provided the first
part for himself, for there was the lawgiver's portion reserved,
and he came with the heads of the people. He
executed the righteousness of Jehovah and his ordinances with Israel.
And of Dan, he said, Dan is a lion's whelp
that leapeth forth fromation. And of Naftalae, he said, O,
(18:03):
Naftalaie satisfied with favor and full with the blessing of Jehovah.
Possess thou the west and the south. And of Asher,
he said, blessed be Asher with children. Let him be
acceptable unto his brethren, and let him dip his foot
in oil. Thy bars shall be iron and brass, and
(18:24):
as thy days, so shall thy strength be. There is
none like unto God, O Jescharin, who rideth upon the
heavens for thy help, and in his excellency on the skies.
The eternal God is thy dwelling place, and underneath are
the everlasting arms. And he thrust out the enemy from
before thee and said, destroy, and Israel dwelleth in safety.
(18:49):
The fountain of Jacob alone in a land of grain
and new wine. Yea, his heavens drop down dew. Happy
art Thou o Israel, who is like unto Thee, a
people saved by Jehovah, the shield of thy help and
the sword of thy excellency. And thine enemies shall submit
(19:11):
themselves unto THEE, and thou shalt tread upon their high places.
And of chapter thirty three Chapter thirty four. And Moses
went up from the plains of Moab unto Mount Nebo,
to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho.
And Jehovah showed him all the land of Gilead unto Dan,
(19:32):
and all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim and Manassa,
and all the land of Judah unto the hinder Sea
and the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho,
the city of palm trees unto Zoar. And Jehovah said
unto him, this is the land which I swear unto Abraham,
unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying I will give it
(19:54):
unto thy seed. I have caused THEE to see it
with thine eyes. But thou shalt not go over thither.
So Moses, the servant of Jehovah, died there in the
land of Moab, according to the word of Jehovah, and
he buried him in the valley in the land of
Moab over against beth Peor. But no man knoweth of
(20:16):
his sepulcher unto this day. And Moses was one hundred
and twenty years old when he died. His eye was
not dim nor his natural force abated. And the children
of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab
thirty days. So the days of weeping in the morning
for Moses were ended. And Joshua, the son of Nun
(20:36):
was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had
laid his hands upon him, and the children of Israel
hearkened unto him and did as Jehovah commanded Moses. And
there hath not arisen a prophet, since in Israel like
unto Moses, whom Jehovah knew face to face, and all
the signs and the wonders which Jehovah sent him to
(20:58):
do in the land of Eave to Pharaoh and to
all his servants, and to all his land, and in
all the Mighty hand, and in all the great terror
which Moses wrought, and the sight of all Israel. End
of chapter thirty four, and also the end of Deuteronomy
(21:18):
