Speaker 1 (00:06):
The undefeated season rolls on folks Indiana taking care of
business in a professional.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Taking care of business.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Emsthatic dominant way against UCLA fifty six to six, no
problems outside of the goofy interception to start the game
once again after turning it over, Indiana scores a touchdown
on the following immediate possession and they took it from there.

(00:39):
The fun, underdog, plucky, exciting story of UCLA got stuffed
in a locker and thrown into the ocean. Indiana won
fifty sixty six. The Hoosiers are now eight to No.
Five and zero Big ten play four No, just kidding? Wait,
no five, that's right? Five and zero Big play. Kurt

(01:03):
Signetti has this team marching along and up next Sport,
Maryland and should be easy? Right? Should be? Man? Matt
and I will dive into this matchup and so much
more here on episode three five three of The Hoosier Sound.
We were the official podcast of Indian HQ for recording

(01:24):
this edition of The Hoosier Sound on Thursday, October thirtieth,
twenty twenty five. Here I am your host, Nathan Christian
with me today as usual as my normal co host
Matt Lukens Matt, we are in the good old days.
Indiana's eight to zero, number two in the country, jockeying

(01:49):
for a CFP buy, looks like Ohio State's coming up
in a Big ten championship game. But but I think
we might be looking a little too far ahead of
ourselves here. Just talk to me first about your initial
reaction to Indiana's win over the Turps, and then I'm

(02:12):
sorry over the Bruins, And then are you a little
nervous about this Maryland matchup on Saturday?

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Yeah, you're alluding to something I kind of spoiled to
you before the podcast. But you could say, we just
it could be great. I could say no, but I
don't know. I can't. I'm not gonna lie to our
lovely viewers and listeners.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
No.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
So one.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Obviously, fantastic win against UCLA. I mean they were the
fun pick for the weekend for everybody. Yeah, it's gonna
be an upschedule or you.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Know, conversations if Indiana loses this game. You losing this game?

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yeah, and then we went out and properly dismantled them
like that was a man handling of man handling. Their
offense really couldn't do much outside of Nico scrambling, and
then their defense really looked like honestly, and I'll give
them credit, their secondary is good. Yeah, their secondary is good.

(03:15):
Their secondary gave I you more trouble than Oregon did. Yeah,
in in many fasts of the game. And then it's
just I. You just kept running the ball down their
throat the whole game, and eventually you know, their defense
out in the field for so long and so many plays,
and then they're started to see the correct But at
the beginning the game that I thought they were putting

(03:36):
up quite the fight. They were really physical. Their secondary
was very, very physical, which I some people find frustrating
to play against, me included. But I have the utmost
respect for teams that are gonna go out there and
be like, hey, if you're going to call us fouls
on us for pass interference for being physical, okay, but
we're still going to be physical with you, right. We

(03:58):
will take those fifteen penalties just to make you have
to work for every single yard you get. And I
respected the heck out of that from UCLA. I thought
Random Mendoza had one of his better games in Who's
Your Uniform, even though he threw a lot of incompletions,
you know, a lot of incompletions, meaning more than like

(04:19):
four because usually he's so darn accurate. But I thought,
you know, especially on that that E. J. Williams sixty
five yeard touchdown, just just so composed, so ready, so
many plays that game where he was just like, I'm
gonna put put my body in, you know, in the
way of harm and like I don't care, I'm getting
this first down. A couple of runs that throw. I

(04:43):
really respect it. Yeah, I think it's awesome. I think
when he doesn't get hurt, it's great, you know, but
you know, especially in maybe maybe in this Maryland game,
when you know, hopefully things go right and we're up forty,
you know, maybe he's not doing you know, running for
first downs that would that would be nice. Against Ohio State, sure,

(05:05):
but you might guess, like put your body on the line,
like pretend like it's the last game of the season.
But Maryland. I think Alberto could handle Maryland. All that
bravado being said that I just came out of my mouth.
I am a little nervous of this because of this game. Again,

(05:27):
I don't know how many you looked this up before
before you went to the playcast. But I don't how
many times Maryland has hosted a number two team in
the country that's not named Ohio State or like Michigan
or even like uh pretty rare, you know, Penn State, Right, Like, like,
when is the last time that they've hosted somebody that
isn't like a blue blood of the sport. Right, It's

(05:48):
been a long time, Right, you have to think back
maybe Iowa coming in there.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Iowa game back in twenty one, Iowa won easily. I
think that was this season where.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
But were they number two in the country? They were,
they were the top five team, they were number five. Okay, okay, okay,
But again, it's it's been almost five years since they
had this opportunity where somebody not named Ohio State comes
rolling into Maryland, and you know, in Ohio State goes
to Maryland, they sell out most of that crowd for

(06:23):
Ohio State fans. Right, it's basically Ohio State home game
in Maryland. You know, I expect Maryland to have a
decent crowd. I mean, they have a fun team, They
have a fun young freshmen. They have a couple of
really good freshmen on their team that you know, I
actually hope stay at Maryland and stay the long term,
even though you know, in an il era asking somebody

(06:46):
to stay at Maryland when you could go to text
say a m and get a dump truck full of money,
put in your back, in your pocket.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
Indiana hard ass or Indiana or man of course.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
I mean, I mean, I mean if we I mean,
we've taken some some of our rosters from Maryland from
last year and they're fantastic, and you know, it's a
little bit not revenge for them, but a little bit
of a homecoming, right, I mean they you know him
by and linebackers Wyatt cal and Wyatt, Yeah, two guys

(07:24):
that that that were that were uh you know, they
went to go play for Maryland's head coach Mike Locksley
and and decided to move on to Kurt Signetti. And
now they're going back and playing against Mike's Losley. A
little bit of an awkward again. Another thing that I'm
looking at. I'm just kind of like, this game makes
me a little uncomfortable. Whereas I looked at Maryland on

(07:48):
the schedule before the season, I go, okay, but they
don't have to and Talia then Ty Felton like I'm
looking at him like, all right, this is one of
those like I you know what I'm having meat right Exactly.
It should not that it should be a cake walk,
but it should be significantly easier of you know, compared

(08:10):
to how Maryland games have gone in the past for us,
especially since what we've lost three of last four against
them right now, we beat them last year exactly, So again,
this game to me smells like a trap game, especially
since we got a trip to Happy Valley coming up
in two weeks time, right, and so you know, it's

(08:33):
just about you know, hopefully this team is continuing to
commit to Kurt Signetty's idea that you take it one
week at a time, one game at a time. This
this game is going to put it to the test. Again.
You're coming off of of your previous home game beating
the Crunches out of the Crypty Crappity out of U

(08:55):
U C l A. And now you're going to a
Maryland team that really has nothing to lose. Like if
they come out here and they drop, you know, they
get sixty points dropped in their head, everybody's gonna be like, well,
just Indiana's good, Yeah, right, if they come out here
and they make it a game, well they have everything
to gain because again a lot of people think this
Maryland team sucks still even though they do have a

(09:16):
couple of nice wins on their record, right or they
they've had They've been competitive in games. They gave Washington,
who was a good team, a scare. They they lost
to ucule in a weird game. Like they they're a
very competitive football team. They have good freshmen, they have
star players, and I just feel like this is a
game where call me daunted. This is the game where

(09:39):
I can just see the Hoosiers mental slipping a little bit.
And I don't like that. I don't like being in
the situation. I don't I usually I like being the IU.
IU has always been in the situation where it's like, well,
I say it's coming down, maybe we got a chance
because you know, they got Michigan on the schedule next
week or whatever.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
The I mean, I'm so happy you mentioned that. It's
literally the situation Indiana's been in for every single season
until last year, right where you know, obviously this era
began and and and has taken off rapidly from there,
but we have done this frequently in previous seasons, especially
when it's you know, a top five team that you

(10:19):
know has like that is not the Ohio State tier.
And I'm including Michigan in that. I mean even like
like there are top five Michigan teams that would come
into Bloomington where I sit there and I go, oh,
I think, I mean, look, you know, come on, you
know why not let's let's let's let's have some fun.

(10:40):
Remember Cincinnati when they came into Indiana. It's a highly
ranked team in twenty one, and Indiana gave them everything
that you could possibly ask for until Mike al McFadden
got injective for targeting. This Maryland team has a lot
of has a lot of intriguing players. We'll dive into
that in a little bit. Just to cover off on

(11:03):
the u c l A game. Just recent trends I'm
seeing that are catching my eye over the last you know,
the two game homestand I love seeing some of the
new faces contributing to what I use doing this year.
I just feel like it's a really critical signal when
you're trying to win a national championship that you can

(11:27):
win games in a variety of different ways and we
knew early in the season Indiana could win games through
Fernando Mendoza, through the through you know, through through the trenches,
through the pass, the passing attack to Surratt and Cooper.
But as the season went into the middle, sort of
the mid to mid season push Illinois Iowa, Oregon, we

(11:49):
learned Roman Hemby was a key factor. No surprise there.
We learned that Indiana's mental toughness grew several levels through
that middle season stretch against Illinois, Iowa and Oregon. Recently, though,
we've seen Kaylon Black have a couple of big games.
We've seen EJ. Williams have a couple of big games.

(12:11):
Riley Nowakowski, I feel like has grown. We've seen c
We've seen Charlie Becker do a couple of good things
on the outside as a receiver. How about Aiden Fisher
housing that pick six to start the game. We know
who he is, but hey, seeing that scoring mentality, that
takeaway mentality coming through there. Devin Boykin huge game against UCLA,

(12:34):
the NC State transfer super senior, really delivering. Of course,
after Kelln Whitt went down, we were sitting here saying,
all right, we're gonna need some D line pass rush
to step up. We're seeing it, Tyreek, Tucker, Jose Wheeler,
saw some snaps for Dominie Gratcliffe. Of course, the linebacker
pressure from Isaiah Jones or Elijah Hardy. Just a lot

(12:57):
of new faces, a lot of new factors. I'm sure
I left out a few, but you're seeing, you know,
when you start seeing, and and you know what, I
wouldn't be surprised in the next few weeks if you
saw a couple of different ones. You know, I don't
know if I were to predict, maybe Holden stays tight end.
There's a couple of things that you don't expect coming

(13:17):
up here in the next several games.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
You know.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
It's just you know, there could you never know? You know,
I mean, well, Kurt Signetti. Kurt Signetti called out Mikail Kamara,
So I'm I'm nervous for for Malik Washington and for
Penn State's backup. Uh Burmeister, the gunk Gronkowski. No, it's

(13:44):
something ridiculous gunk ethan gunrun.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
Yeah, see it's something like that.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
I'm telling the tree. Uh yeah, Uh, of course we've
seen Lewis Moore do some big thing, but uh, you know,
and as I mentioned Stephen Daily, But hey, you know what,
maybe it's Mikhail Kamara really splashing here coming up in
the next couple of weeks. Maybe it's like a guy
like Holden stays on offense. Of course, the unsung heroes,

(14:13):
the offensive line, I said earlier. You know, Indiana's winning
games through the trenches. The offensive line continues to do
great things. It's just it's it's great to see some
of the unsung heroes step up here over the last
several games. Because there is a lot of internal competition.
Kurt Signetti will give you snaps if you prove it.

(14:34):
Charlie Becker's putting the receivers above him on notice. You
gotta you know, Kobe Martin is putting the running backs
ahead him and on notice if he if he assents right,
you know, all of a sudden, if he, if he
plays well, Kurt Signetti, Mike Shanahan will be like, well,
look it was merit based stuff. Man. We're not playing
politics and playing football. And you know, if you if you,

(14:55):
if you deserve more playing time, if you deserve more reps,
you get it. And then, as you saw in the
case of the Kelen White injury, if someone goes down
because they're hurt. You really do need someone. Uh, you know,
you have no option, You have no choice. The next
the next player has to has to has to step
in there and deliver. So great to see some of
the new faces do good things. It's something that I

(15:20):
feel like the programs that are looking for a head
coach right now really struggled at doing the last few
years because schools like Florida and Penn State, LSU, even
Virginia Tech, they've had elite players at the top of
their depth chart. Right We've talked about DJ Lagway, Anthony

(15:43):
richardson Florida, We've talked about Drew Aller k, tront Allen,
Nick Singleton, Mike abdul Carter at Penn State recent years.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
But like layers, they've had.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
Great you know, like you know what happened. Football is
not a one on one game, it's not a two
on two game. It's why Ohio State has had so
much success over the years. They throw waves of players
at you. Everyone's ready to go, everyone's prepared, everyone's ready
to step on the field to make a big difference.
And it's pretty clear to me that Indiana has stepped

(16:18):
into that as well. Again, I use second ranked team
in the country and the a people it's the highest
ranking in school history. Ohio State, I think deservedly number one,
but some of the metrics are swinging the pendulum ward
to Indiana at number one. Bill Connley's S and P
plus did that. So we live in that type of
universe where you can make as insane statistical argument that

(16:44):
that Indiana is the number one team in the country. Uh, Matt,
Let's play a little trick or treat here, all right,
Let's play a little tricker treat nice, and then we'll
fully dive into the Maryland matchup a little bit later,
because there there are definitely some fun exes and those
to talk about there. Talk to me, Matt. You know

(17:07):
a lot of coaching changes taking place in college football.
It wouldn't be surprising if a couple of more huge
jobs opened up. I mean, you know, you could be
talking about Texas, you could be talking about USC you
could be talking about several others. Trick or treat, Indiana

(17:32):
is gonna lose an assistant to a head coaching job
this upcoming off season. Trigg or treat.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
Do I I need stipulations on what trigger treat means
is it true or false? Is trick false? And treat true?
Because I don't want to say treat for this. It's
not a treat.

Speaker 4 (17:57):
Losing great question, man, Uh yeah, treat, treat, treat it
is true.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
Trick is false.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
So I guess we're getting We're getting the treat of
losing maybe both of our coordinators. Man, you don't, you don't.
You don't like Brian. I don't want to see it. No, No,
I have Haynes at Brian Haynes one hundred million percent
deserves a shot, not only at a head coaching job,

(18:33):
but you know, screw he doesn't need to go to
U A b right, Brian Haynes should be the next
head coach of like Virginia Tech or like when if
they can Florida State or like forgot about them? Yeah yeah,

(18:57):
for stamp might be open.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
North Carolina when win again.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
Here's a great one. Here's here's a fantastic one. You
take a player in Lewis Moore, who was it? I?
You goes to Ole Miss, you bring him back, you
fix him, Lane Kiff and go takes the LSU job.
Why shouldn't any Brian Haynes be in the mention for
the old miss job, Like why why shouldn't Brian Haynes

(19:24):
be in the mentions for for maybe even the LSU job,
Like like, I don't think there's a reason why this guy.
He's the best coordinator in the country. And I will
I will stand on that that this defense is excellent.
The players that they are using to make this defense
excellent are not five stars, they're not four stars. They're

(19:44):
majority three stars. And he's getting the absolute most out
of them. And god forbid you give him a good
offensive coordinator. What might actually happen if he goes, you know,
and becomes a head coach, he might like, we're we
might be looking at Bryant Haynes in about three years

(20:04):
time the way we look at Kaylan de Boor now.
And I know a lot of people have you know,
and some you know, and I know some people have like,
you know, crapped all over Kaylen d Boor. But I
think the Boor is doing a fantastic job in a
place where you cannot win. He's filling in the shoes
of the greatest coach in the history of the sport.

(20:26):
You cannot live up to expectations. It's impossible, and he's
still doing a fine job. But Alabama's a top five
team this year, they're probably they might there's a dang
good chance chance they might win the SEC this year.
Give them that A and M. It's A and M.

Speaker 1 (20:40):
They might lose.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
So like, I think he's he's doing a wonderful job
at Alabama, and I think some people really don't give
him the credit that he deserves because again, he's following
in the footsteps of the greatest coach in the history
of the sport.

Speaker 1 (20:52):
Yeah, right, like Clark Clark Lee a Vanderbilt has a
defense passed and look what he's doing there.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
I mean, yeah, exactly, ballowing out exactly. But we're gonna
be looking at Bryant Haynes in three years time, going
this makes sense, right. We saw how good he was
as a coach first hand here, and I think Brian

(21:20):
Haynes is definitely getting a lot more credit than Kaylan
got when he was at IU, because again, the stage
IU is at, the national stage they have been put upon,
is much higher and much more prestige prestigious than what
stage IU was at in what was it, twenty nineteen, Yeah, right, right,

(21:40):
twenty because it multiplied essentially, gret because you get everything
that happened in twenty nineteen and in twenty twenty, all
the success, all the winning, and I mean Mike Loxley
even mentioned it the other day, like this run of
wins across twenty four and twenty five kind of started
with the Tom Allen run in nineteen twenty and Indiana

(22:01):
infiltrated the top of college football with Kaitlin Debor and
with Kane Wamick, and with Nick Shared and with Michael Pennix.
And now you're you're kind of building on that.

Speaker 1 (22:14):
So you know, I also think Brian Haynes finds a
job elsewhere. If he doesn't, I think that's a sign
that some of the old guard of college football has
really lost the step. If that does happen, I'm very
curious to see what Signetti does as far as the

(22:36):
decordinator spot. Pat Koons to me is the natural next
man up, the defensive line coach. But I do wonder.
You know, Signetti did go outside the four walls to
bring in Chandler Whitmer to be the QB coach this
past offseason after you know, Sinceri went to u c LA,
So I don't know. We'll see if Signetti does does

(22:58):
go that route. Would love to would love to see
what his plan is there. Uh, trick or treat, Matt.
Indiana is gonna play Ohio State twice this season.

Speaker 2 (23:18):
We're gonna play them once, We're gonna beat them, and
then we're gonna pay him again. The National Championship is
the second best team in the country. I'm dead serious.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
It's it's in play. It's why I mentioned it.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
We have a home game in Indianapolis for the Big
Ten Championship. What should be a home game if you
live in the Indianapolis area and you are not at
that game as an EU fin and you let an
Ohio State fan take your ticket, I don't want to
hear you complaining about ever going to any game ever. Again,

(23:52):
I don't I don't care. I don't care. You have
to be there. I live on the other side of
the world. I would be there in a heartbeat. If
I didn't have to take eighteen hours worth of flights
and take off three weeks of work just to be there,
I would be there.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
So being a matter of time before they're a Big
Ten football game.

Speaker 2 (24:11):
How many times are you gonna see them play in
Indianapolis for Big Ten champions to pay the money. Well,
I these stupid people from Ohio out of their tickets please.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
I mean, it's a it's a good question you asked,
because like Signetti is now the third highest paid coach
in college football, he's not going to be.

Speaker 2 (24:32):
A top five deservedly.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
So he deservedly, but that's going to change in a
matter of like a month. Like he's going to be
like tenth in a month once Lane Kiffin gets his deal,
you know, so on and so forth. Even with that said,
like there are a lot of great programs, great programs
really outside of Ohio State. I think it's really just

(24:56):
Ohio State that have hit bumps in the road over
the last several years. Over the last several years, I mean,
look where Michigan is now compared to when they won
the national title. And by the way, Michigan before they
won the national title across the twenty tens wasn't exactly
a great, you know, eleven win team every year. LSU

(25:19):
won a national championship a couple of times, and now
they're going through turmoil. Like you could do everything right
in college football and still win seven or eight or
nine games in a season, so you don't know. You
don't know when Indiana will be a top two team
again or in the Big Ten Championship game again. And

(25:40):
that's in a situation where you do everything correctly. Never
mind the bottoming out of twenty one to twenty two
twenty three that we saw at a you but like,
even if you push all the right buttons, none of
this is guaranteed to happen for seven several more years.

(26:01):
So you know, two Ohio State games is in play,
the second Oregon game is in play. There are some
goofy tiebreaker things in the Big Ten. If Ohio State
loses to Michigan or if Ohio State drops the game
before the Big Ten title game. It feels like the

(26:22):
only spot where that would happen is the final game
of the regular season at Michigan. So we'll see what
happens there as far as as far as that's concerned,
trigger treat Mack. Even if Indiana loses to Ohio State
in the Big Ten Championship game, they'll get a first
round by in the CFP.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
You know, I would love to say treat sure, but
I'm gonna have to say trick.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
I agree with you.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
The I think the playoff selection committee is going to
do everything in their power to kiss the blue buds,
blue bloods butts, and I you is not one of them,
and you'd be going up against SEC. It is an
SEC champ, right, You're going up as Big ten champ. Right,

(27:18):
Let's say it's not.

Speaker 1 (27:18):
I You Georgia undefeated, Georgia.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
Not a game. Okay, they're gonna lose a game.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
It's got to be a second.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
But then then you're gonna have You're gonna be a
second SEC team like A A M. Right, and a
m's oil money right, and maybe a big twelve champ
A right, Texas Tech, same thing.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
Sure could be, could be. Now what I would say
is I think that I think the scenario where the
SEC gets two teams is if Texas A and M
is undefeated going into the SEC title game and that's
where they lose.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
So then and then lose to Alabama or something.

Speaker 1 (28:02):
Yeah, because remember A and M has banked that non
conference went over Notre Dame. So you know, if Obama
runs the table after their Week one lost to Florida State,
they're sitting at twelve and one with an SEC championship.
A and M is twelve and one with a loss
to lost lost to Alabama over yeah, went over no

(28:24):
name yeah, and they both would get it, and then
you're probably looking at another conference championship Mickey.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
But I just unless i U wins that, I don't
see them putting two SEC teams and two Big ten
teams and giving them both the buys. I just don't
see them, Yeah, compiling all four buys to two conferences.
They're going to find some way to finagle Sure I
you out of it because i U is the lesser
of the four brands.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
And just what it is. Just to be clear, the
rules compared to last year have changed a little bit.
It's just the top fourteen teams in the country that
get to buy according to CFP Committee last year.

Speaker 2 (29:00):
I still think that I still think they're going to
if if I you as that point at that point
eleven and one and you have a twelve and one
conference champion, I think the twelve and one conference champion
gets in over I you you, regardless of if they
think they're better or not, because they're gonna give them
that they're gonna technically have the better resume, even they don't.

Speaker 1 (29:21):
Well, and you could still have a thirteen and no
Georgia Tech. I mean it's not it's probably not likely.

Speaker 2 (29:27):
Yeah, that's also right.

Speaker 1 (29:29):
Yeah, thirteen and Georgia.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
Under undefeated, undefeated ACC champion is not not getting a
buye like.

Speaker 1 (29:39):
Look, by the way, just to clarify there in case
this changes your mind. And undefeated Georgia Tech includes a
win over Georgia at the end of the regular season,
So there is that.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
That does change my mind a little bit. But that's
that changed my mind, like a tiny bit. But I
even if they didn't have the Georgia but they still
think of an undefeat Georgia Tech. Wuld you bring up
a value but just because they're undefeated conference champion from
a power of four pro like conference.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
Yeah, so there's so there's that, there's.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
Never in and no. Actually, actually, if if Georgia Tech
goes undefeated Wednesday CE Championship and Alabama beats tex A
and m in the SEC Championship, Georgia Tech should be.

Speaker 3 (30:23):
Two behind the Big ten chip mm hmm, right, all right, okay,
by the way, committee.

Speaker 2 (30:34):
And then now my college football, now my college football,
now My college Football twenty five video game simulations don't
look so crazy when I have I you played Georgia
Tech National Championship. This would ever happen, This will never happen.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
Ever, Uh, you're ready for You're ready for a five
Indiana versus twelve JMU college football playoff matchup.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
That would be Spike sy Well again, think about that, right,
Think about those that think about the storylines for that,
and just tell me the committee is not slock galivating
to put you at five slobbery and an I you
home game against JMU where we get to obliterate them

(31:17):
and they're very, very very annoying fan base would be
wonderful play. That would be a great opportunity. But also,
I don't want to be five. I want to be one.

Speaker 1 (31:28):
I want to be one.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
I don't want to be five. I don't care about
being five. Five is actually the worst seat. Five five is.
I'm going like five is the worst seat. Five is
the worst seat in the entire playoffs.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
Lose twice, get the nine or whatever, get the ten
or the eleven. Literally, get get.

Speaker 2 (31:48):
Me off that one line. If we're losing Ohio State,
I want off of playing them again because they're a juggernaut. Yeah,
you're you're there's no one else on the schedule.

Speaker 1 (31:58):
Is that the four is pretty tough. Actually, now that
it's not just conference champs that are getting buys, it
is the top four team. So you face the fourth
best team in the country, and then you got to
play the number one team in the country and that's
Ohio State, and you don't why face them in the
second round. So that's basically your your your justification there, correct.

Speaker 2 (32:17):
I don't want to face them in the semi finals.
I don't want to face them into the championship game.
I want to be the opposite of the bracketism.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
Makes total sense.

Speaker 2 (32:23):
Give me there, Give me the one spot, Give State
the four spot, give iOS State the two three spot. Please,
thank you, perfect appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
We might have a trigger treat or two coming up
before moving on to Maryland here, but first it's time
for who won the week this past week in i
U Sports, and hey Indiana men's basketball folks. Good stuff
from Darren Devrees and the gang and the exhibition win
over Baylor. It was fun to watch. The style of

(32:53):
play was easy on the eyes. Team basketball, good passing,
good movement up and down the court. Against Baylor, a
team that should be somewhere in the thirties or the
forties when when it comes to the college basketball rankings
this upcoming season, I wouldn't anticipate Baylor getting into the
top twenty five, at least without having to win a

(33:15):
few games. It was still easy. Yeah, I don't know,
it was. It was fun to watch a lot of threes.
Very good performance in the free throw line. Lamar Wilkerson
is filling up the stat sheet. Buckets, buckets everywhere for
Lamar Wilkerson. Tucker Devrees doing a lot of good things
on the court, Tayton Connorway, Trentisley. Yeah, it's just you know,

(33:41):
season starts next week, Marquette comes up a week from Sunday.
I believe good good stuff.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
Crazy.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
What in the world? Yeah, United Center?

Speaker 2 (33:52):
What is happening? Where's time going?

Speaker 1 (33:54):
There?

Speaker 2 (33:54):
You go?

Speaker 1 (33:55):
And and and you know, Matt and I were talking
before hitting recorder. You know, it's like that bar the
barography see flying a on Twitter. Every so often, the
hype in the expectations bar was you know, very very
very tall. Then the actual results performance was very very
very small. This year, it feels like, oh, maybe the

(34:17):
opposite could be happening. And again, it's an exhibition game.
You don't put any stock into it.

Speaker 2 (34:23):
But I think definitely the opposite is happening. What I
will say, I would like to put a little bit
of stock onto I would like to put a little
bit of stock into it. While we were talking about
not to interrupt segment, but go for it. But but
I I think this team is going to be really
really fun to watch. I They're going to shoot a
bunch of threes, They're going to play with good offense.

(34:43):
They're not going to be able to rebound the ball
for shit, but that's fine, and and and they're going
to be you know, like uh. The perfect example of
this is the Kevin Wilson i U football teams. Okay,
you know where it's it's a It's like they're going
to score a billion points. Will the other teams score

(35:04):
a billion points off of offensive rebounds or not? That
is the question. If they don't, we win the game.
If they if they score more than us, then we
lose the game. That's usually how the games work. But
like this this year, it's gonna be actually for real, right,
Like this team is gonna have some of the best
offense it's gonna play like a team we have not
seen in the Big Ten maybe ever. Right, they play

(35:27):
like an SEC style of like run and gun offense
and playing hard nosed defense, but not exactly like with
a classic five man who's you know, got a billion
rebounds and blocks and like slow pace, Like they're gonna
be flying around the court. They're gonna be gambling for steals,
They're going to be shooting a bunch of threes, and

(35:49):
they're gonna get beat a lot. But by god, is
it going to be fun? Yeah, And it's gonna be
so fun.

Speaker 1 (35:56):
They showed some resilience this year. There are a lot
of games here Puerto Rico or Baylor where they've gone
down by double digits, and unlike previous teams we've seen in Indiana,
they are fighting. They're hitting right back and again. In
this Ken Palm era in the in the what's his face? Era,
totally blank the net ranking era. There you go, I

(36:18):
got too many era. I had too many abbreviations in
his what's his face?

Speaker 2 (36:25):
Was like f P I C f P.

Speaker 1 (36:28):
A C C I was like, it was like, you're
going to like r P I r P I. That's
not right. It's just like bank bank bank bank in
the r P era. Yeah, and thatlla's are great with Yeah,
and that net ranking era. Margin of victory matters, margin
of defeat matters. So hey, even if you lose, scratch clawback,

(36:51):
make it close, make it interesting so that the metrics
don't kill you. So overall the stuff that I'm putting
stock into, and you're right, you kind of caught me there.
It's not like I'm totally throwing this out. Just just
the visual, just the style of play, just the just
the making of the free throws. Big ten basketball, it's

(37:16):
usually a bunch of a bunch of close games and
free throws matter. And if you go twenty of twenty one,
that's better than going thirteen to twenty one.

Speaker 2 (37:26):
So this Baylor team that just played is very promising.
And I know we beat the Tennessee team and people
gonna be the way we can see.

Speaker 1 (37:31):
Guys, you said you were going to beat what Wow,
I understood.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
Ever, I mean, you're right, you're right, You're right, Like
we did say we're going to be good.

Speaker 1 (37:40):
But is it not? But the haters, the haters couldn't
have gotten it more correct, They could.

Speaker 2 (37:47):
Not have gotten that more correct, really shout out to
the haters.

Speaker 1 (37:50):
Yeah, shout out to the shout out to them.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
They shout out to the haters. They knew exactly what
was going on. They were on top of their game,
and honestly, you just got to give credit creditors due.
They knew exactly what was going to happen without basketball
last year. And you know what, you know, cap tip,
you know, yeah, you know. But what was I gonna say? No,

(38:13):
this baller team has some serious talent on Yeah, yeah there,
and this IU team is a bunch of former mid
major guys, and they played like a team who had
been told the every single practice for the last three months,
you are not talented enough. You don't play hard enough,
you do not work hard enough. They don't think you
can play on the same court as them. And they

(38:36):
played with a chip on their shoulder. And they're gonna
play like that the rest of the season and it's
gonna be so much fun.

Speaker 1 (38:40):
Scott Drew's a good coach. Indiana beat him, man, You'll
take that every day of the week. So, uh, that's
where that is. Shot out to the Hoosiers, looking good,
season opener coming up on Monday or Tuesday coming up,
and then the Marquette game is is a week from Sunday,
and I'm just gonna say that Marquette game, the over

(39:02):
cannot be high enough for the for the Hoosiers against
the Golden Eagles. Yeah, Alabama A and M's on Wednesday night,
got btn BT on game, and then you have Marquette
Sunday again. Yeah, the over under cannot be high enough.

(39:22):

IU fans such as yourself. If you want, you can
find us at Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, at Indiana HQ, or
at the Hoosier sound Man. Let's hop right into this

(39:43):
Maryland game. I'm sure a lot of folks are excited
to hear more about the Terps, because why not. Indiana
is a twenty one and a half point favorite for
Saturday's game in College Park. The over under it's fifty
and a half, So that's something like the thirty five
fourteen thirty six fourteen Indiana win according to the computers

(40:09):
three thirty start c BS with Brad Nessler, Gary Danielson
Jenny Dell. Expect a good like aerial drone shots. CBS
loves doing that, so hopefully sec Yeah, SECU Stadium Stadium.

Speaker 2 (40:30):
Maybe people can people can find you in the crowd.

Speaker 1 (40:33):
I'll be there wearing cream and crimson. It is it
is not that much money to get a ticket to
Saturday's game. And that is a subjective comment, but.

Speaker 2 (40:48):
Really it is.

Speaker 1 (40:51):
It is a couple of sand, which.

Speaker 2 (40:52):
Is a full disclosure.

Speaker 1 (40:54):
How much How much did you pay a couple of sand?
Which is also closure?

Speaker 2 (40:58):
How much did you pay? It was like thirty, it
was under it was it? I would say, was it
under fifty bucks? Because if it's under fifty bucks, you're
basically paying for a movie ticket at that thirty.

Speaker 1 (41:11):
To get it, and it'll be a movie. Yeah, thirty,
I would say, like thirty to get in there. You go,
maybe even twenty five. And the weather's gonna be great
Saturday College Park, which you love to see when you're
the favorite. I don't want to get too deep into this,
but basically, bad weather increases the chaos factor, increases the

(41:32):
variance factor. So when you're a favorite, you want to
be as clean as possible. Give me sunshine, no wind,
clean grass to play on. You know it's why, right,
Like the great NFL teams when they're at home in
the playoffs, I think of the Bills, I think of

(41:54):
the Packers. They've gotten upset, like they've gotten upset at home,
because that includes Kansas City going to Buffalo and the
weather and all of a sudden, it takes you out
of everything that you've done correctly to that point in
the season. And I'm sure you can find a counter
example of a team winning a playoff game in cold weather,
in the snow. But like in like in general, clean

(42:15):
weather happens, reduces the variants. You want it to be sunny,
and that's exactly what it's gonna be in College Park
on Saturday. Maryland is a is the weirdest team in
the Big Ten. They have not faced a Top twenty
five opponent yet.

Speaker 2 (42:36):
Sent bro, what is this Big Ten?

Speaker 1 (42:38):
They have a true freshman quarterback who does that in
twenty twenty five. They have several awesome and he's good.
They have several awesome NFL prospects across the depth chart.
Their offense is kind of a mess except for the
true freshman quarterback. They can't run. Yeah, they're across the board,

(43:03):
close to the bottom of the country at success stright
running the ball EPI for play running the ball. They
can't run the ball Michigan State. Michigan State was better
at running the ball than this Maryland team. Maryland lost
to UCLA the week before Indiana played them. Their best player,

(43:27):
safety Jalen Husky, was ejected in the fourth quarter of
that game for targeting. Maryland had a bye week, which
means Jalen Husky is out for the first half of
Saturday's game against Indiana. He will return after halftime. For
those of you that are interested in that sort of news,
the Turps have three losses this season. All of them

(43:51):
have been by one score. There isn't there's a realistic
alternate universe where Maryland is seven and zero. You're not
too far from that conversation. You know, Washington, Nebraska, U
c l A, they were right there, just couldn't push
it across the finish line.

Speaker 2 (44:11):
But then A is also the three best teams that
they've played.

Speaker 1 (44:15):
You read my mind, Matt. You know what Florida, Atlantic,
Northern Illinois, Tousand, Wisconsin, Washington, Nebraska, and u c LA
have in common. That is that is not records. Well,
and that is just that's just Maryland schedule, right, So
so you don't hear Ohio Stateium there, you don't hear Oregon,
and there. You don't hear Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, I'm sorry, Illinois, USC.

(44:40):
You don't hear those teams on Maryland schedule. To this point,
they will face Illinois and Michigan after they play Indiana
on Saturday. As you look at this matchup, Matt, it's
so weird. This is like, this is it's almost like
a non conference game. There's nothing you can take for

(45:00):
Indiana's winn last year over Maryland and apply it to
this year's matchup. And frankly, especially especially on the Indiana
side of things, that is, Mike Loxley can take some
stuff from last year's game. Indiana is very similar to
the way they play in twenty twenty five compared to
what happened in twenty twenty four. Maryland, yuck. It is

(45:21):
all over the place. I mean, they are so different
than they were last year. They're unique. They're different. Like,
what what are your initial observations on top of what
you said earlier about this matchup coming up on Saturday, They're.

Speaker 2 (45:35):
Just feisty, and they play hard. Maryland does, and and
they compete. They haven't played anybody good. And I think
I you can just out muscle and outclass them in
every facet of the game. But if this is a
one score game at the end of the game, I'm
not would not be surprised, because again, they haven't played
a game where they've lost that hasn't been a one

(45:57):
score game. They have made all of these games significantly
uncomfortable for for teams that are significantly better than them.
So you know, I I I think they're playing over
their weight. I think Mike I've always thought that Mikes
Locksley is a good head coach. I have always been
a big proponent of Mike Loxley. I I you know,

(46:20):
I think he's playing with a very similar war chest
at Maryland that I you has. In fact, I think
I probably has more money in NIL than than Maryland
for sure, like and I don't think that's a crazy take,
like I I think I think he's working with a
lot less than than even like a Tom Allen had
than he was at IU. And and is is is

(46:41):
doing an amicable job at Maryland, and he's been there
forever and and uh he's waging war on the SEC.
So I appreciate that with him doing that and uh
and uh. Yeah. I do think this is again going
to be a very very scary and sketchy game. And
I think you all should be mentally prepared to sit

(47:03):
down on your couch on Saturday afternoon and watch this
game be in you know, a little bit of Jeopardy
until about at least four thirty in the afternoon. So
give him about an hour, give about an hour, being

(47:24):
about an hour.

Speaker 1 (47:25):
I thought you're gonna say, like the fourth quarter. I
think that's what you're gonna say. He's in fourthirt. I mean, look,
this Turps team is the number one team in the
country as at least a turnover differential per game. They're
they're decent up front, they're decent up front. They can

(47:45):
do some good things. I don't know, there is no comparison,
Like I don't know, they're like Malik Washington does not
play the game like any quarterback Indianna scene this season.

Speaker 2 (48:00):
That's the thing too. That's the thing too. He plays
the game in such a unique way. Again, he's a freshman,
so it's either gonna be he's never seen anything like
I used defense before and he absolutely hoops himself, or
he's gonna see I use defense and be like I
and and gain some confidence, and all of a sudden,

(48:22):
we're going to have an absolute terrorist for playing against.
And I don't know who it's what it's gonna be.

Speaker 1 (48:27):
Yeah, I don't know either. I will say he did
have his worst game of the season against U C.
L A, which was the Terp's most recent game. And
as I mentioned, the Turps are coming off of buye,
so they'll be a little bit more rested than this
Indiana team. Oh you might argue Indiana had a bye

(48:49):
last week. The other thing that sort of the other
thing that it sort of caught my attention is that
Malik Washington really struggles when he's under pressure. The PFF
grade for Washington when he's clean clean pocket is in
the nineties out of one hundred, but when he's under pressure,

(49:11):
it's in the forties. So Kellen White's injury is a
pretty significant deal here. You certainly hope that the improvement
from guys like Stephen Daily, Jose Wheeler, Tyreek Tucker, Dominie Gratcliffe,
and the guy that signettes called out Mikhail Kamara. You

(49:33):
hope that their improvement and their good play and effectiveness
travels on the road to College Park on Saturday. If
you see guys in Malik Washington's face, that is almost
an immediate signal that Indiana is going to it, even
if it's on the opening drive in Maryland ends up
scoring for example, or even if on the first couple

(49:54):
of drives Dan remember Indiana went down ten nothing to
Michigan State last year in East Lansing. If you see
guys in the face of the league Washington in those
drives early in the game, that means Brian Haynes' is.

Speaker 2 (50:07):
Yeah, fresh m QB is not gonna be able to
deal with that. And also freshman QB cannot deal with
that that stuff. Like you go look at Arch Manning
and what he's doing at Texas right Arch Manning has
been under pressure at Texas, even they have a decent
offensive line, but just you know, sec schedule or whatever,
and yeah, I mean he's been he's been really really
struggling up until the last couple of games. So just

(50:28):
expect that to that would be a bit major win
for the Hoosiers if that does happen, I think, which
it could.

Speaker 1 (50:35):
I just.

Speaker 2 (50:37):
Something about this Maryland team scares me, and I don't
know what it is, and I don't like that it does.

Speaker 1 (50:43):
It looks like Maryland on their defensive side, is a
team that you can beat in different ways. Washington's DeMont Williams.
In the game where the Huskies won at Maryland, Dumont
Williams threw for two seventy five. He went to his
superstar receiver in Denzel Boston at six for seventy one
and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Nebraska used a balanced approach. Dylan

(51:06):
Royolo threw for two sixty. Emmett Johnson, who's an excellent
running back for the US for the Huskers, he ran
for one seventy six and and the Huskers ended up
putting up four hundred and fifty yards of offense on
the board against Maryland. In that matchup Ucla, again, you know,

(51:26):
they also did it with a balanced approach. The just
disciplined football from UCLA. Maryland sort of shot themselves in
the foot a couple of times in that true road
game for the Turps. Even though I'm alik, Washington ended
up having a pretty good game. So Matt and I
will predict this game, maybe dive into some other big
ten week games of the week and throw out any

(51:48):
other notes and nuggets here in just a second. But
first I want to give it give us social media
shout out out there, and just to remind your folks,
if you enjoy our show again, leave us a review,
tell a friend, share our links. That kind of support
really helps us grow this podcast reach more passionate IU
fans such as yourself. You know, when we see something

(52:10):
come across Twitter, for example, we you know we'll retweet
it anything you put out there on X like we are.
We got our eyes peeled. So you can follow us Twitter, Facebook, YouTube,
at Indiana HQ at the Hoo's your sound man on
Instagram or Indiana HQ.

Speaker 2 (52:25):
But what are we Indiana dot HQ. That's right, You
can find that way for a long time. If you
don't know that now, it's your problem.

Speaker 1 (52:33):
And does there you know when you think of Indiana
on the offense here, Matt, we've talked about Maryland's offense
going up in Indiana's defense, we will look at Indiana's
offense here against the Turps defense. What do you think
is going to be the headline, the top priority, the

(52:55):
main point of emphasis from Mike Shanahan, Kurt Signetti, Fernando
Mendoza and this offense on Saturday afternoon.

Speaker 2 (53:03):
Get waffle House the ball that's gonna that is going
to be it. Get Omar Cooper the ball in space.
Get you know, get waffle House in space. Get these guys,
get our playmakers in space against the the uh this
defense Maryland has, I mean, I know they have a

(53:26):
good corner, but I don't really believe in him all
that much given the fact that they really haven't played
anybody yet.

Speaker 1 (53:33):
Yeah, it's true. So you were talking about Lekay Roland,
who Yeah, I'm not kidding when I say this. He
has given up an NFL passer rating to this point
a fourteen, and that's out of one fifty eight. That's
out of one fifty eight point three.

Speaker 2 (53:53):
That's extremely good. That's way better than anything Dangel Pond
is doing. Dangel Pond is getting all American nuns. Yeah,
this guy's insane, But I still think throw at him.
I don't care. You're the better team, you have better players.

Speaker 1 (54:08):
Well that's why it's exciting to me that you see
take them down a notch.

Speaker 2 (54:11):
You need to do this for do it for D'Angelo punts.
Do it for our guy because you take him down
a notch, that's one less contender for the Thorpe Award.

Speaker 1 (54:20):
Yeah, Thorpe Award, you know, all Big Ten First team
Exactly when La Kai Roland has been targeted by opposing quarterbacks,
those qbs are five of fourteen with two interceptions. So
that's the type of play we're talking about from La
Kai Roland. Other good defensive players on the Turps include

(54:43):
Jamari Glasker, linebacker Daniel Wingate, so keep an eye out
for them. Glasger, the other corner, has done a very
good job in that in that same category, similar category
two Lakai Roland, and of course, as we mentioned at
the top, Maryland safety Jalen Husky is out in the

(55:05):
first half for targeting, so when he returns in the
second half, the Turps defense, we'll have an extra weapon
in the secondary to keep an eye out for there.
And that's why I think it's exciting that UCLA did
put something on tape last Saturday. Hey, if we press
Omar Cooper and Elijah Surratt, it might be difficult for
Banana Mendoza to get them the ball. So hopefully Indiana's

(55:27):
adjusted to that, and if they haven't, then you start
seeing the complimentary pieces really come into play. With Henby
and with Black, and with Noah Kowski, and with EJ.
Williams Jonathan Brady, we'll see Indiana rollout the artillery there.
As far as the complimentary pieces are concerned to get
defense from Maryland. They are undefeated under Locksley when they

(55:50):
allow less than twenty points. So if Indiana scores less
than twenty, we will be ringing the alarm bells, no
question about that, Matt. As you look at this game,
as I mentioned, Indiana is a twenty one and a
half point favorite, projected to win by something like thirty
six fifteen, thirty five fifteen in this game according to
the sports books, who do you have winning this game?

(56:12):
And by how much.

Speaker 2 (56:15):
I gott you winning this game? And I'm going to
put my metaphorical family jewels on the table and say
everything I talk about this game being scary is hogwash
and blasphemous, and say IU wins by a solid score
of forty seven to seven. I can't look at everybody.

Speaker 1 (56:42):
I just i'd read you today. Man, here, you're you're really.

Speaker 2 (56:45):
I I work I had a terrible day at work today.
It's eleven thirty at night. My brain is split into
two different directions. I'm starving. I'm ordering food right now.

Speaker 1 (56:56):
I like it. I like it. I like it. I'm
on my toes I'm my toes ear all right?

Speaker 2 (57:03):
What do you?

Speaker 1 (57:03):
What do you?

Speaker 2 (57:04):
What's your prediction? Which? What are you going? What are
you going?

Speaker 1 (57:06):
On? Thirty one seventeen?

Speaker 2 (57:11):
Oh, there's scoring a lot of points at seventeen points.
There's a lot of points I know, I don't know
a lot of points for offenses just a quarterback.

Speaker 1 (57:20):
Yeah, thirty four to seventeen.

Speaker 2 (57:27):
If we're in trouble in this game, it's because this
game is like Iowa and it's twenty to seventeen final score.
It's not because they're Marylands scoring a lot of points.

Speaker 1 (57:35):
By the way, something about this Maryland secondary is it's
popping to me, like it's popping off the page. I'm
sitting here. I'm just like, is there gonna be you know,
is there gonna be like a fumble that the Terps
force that you know they returned for a touchdown or
at least recover deep in Indiana territory? Is there a

(57:58):
big play or two in this game from a league Washington,
and I do really agree with your point that like
this is a you know, major hype up game for Maryland, right,
it is a huge game underline highlighted circle it on
the calendar. We finally have a top twenty five team

(58:21):
coming to our place, let alone a team that's number
two in the country and was way worse than where
Maryland was just you know, two, three, four years ago.
And by the way last year, I know there was
some fluky plays that went Maryland Maryland's way last year,
but it was a close game last year. I mean,
Indiana did do a lot of good things as far
as the yardage, yards per play type stuff that we,

(58:42):
you know, the analytics people care about. But the end
of the day was a fourteen point final and that's
what Kurtz Signetty cares about. And Indiana was right there.
I mean, that was a close game in the second half.
So and it was a Bloomington So you know, here,
Maryland end of season is gonna because of the way
their rosters build up. Maryland at the end of the
season is give me better than Maryland at the start

(59:04):
of the season because they got a lot of young
players who are learning on the job. And I think
this one could get a little I don't know, like
I agree with what you're saying. I think you get
a little weird, old Harry. Could there be a big play,
Could there be a hot start for the Terps. I
don't know. These are the things that I'm sort of
looking at. I still have Indiana winning thirty four seventeen,

(59:24):
so you know, it's not like Alabama going to South
Carolina and eking it out at the end. So keep
that in mind. Matt Indiana, Maryland. Indiana and Maryland is
one of six Big Ten games on the slate for Saturday.
Yeah and uh, and all six games are on Saturday.

(59:47):
There are no Fridays this week. There no Sundays this week,
There no Thursdays. Noist of a lot of good matchups
on the table. The only two, the only three significant
point spreads are Indiana, Mayor, Penn State, Ohio State, and
Purdue Michigan. It's like there aren't that many like u
c l A, Indiana's or or you know, recently we

(01:00:11):
saw Minnesota Ohio State. Like you know, it doesn't feel
like we'll get any one of those games this weekend.
But as Matt and I like to do. We usually
like to dive in. Give out an upset picker, two
a point spread pick, or two over unders. Matt, anything
stand out to you. As far as we should keep.

Speaker 2 (01:00:28):
Track, we should keep track of our scores on this
we should we should ready, we should keep track from
now we got all right, So I've got Purdue covering
against Michigan. Okay, I think this Perdue team shoots them

(01:00:49):
I swear to God, this Perdue team shoots themselves the
foot over and over and over again. But they get
to a point where they think they might have hope
to win a game and then lose it. A twenty
two point spread is not that they're losing this game
by fourteen after having it tied in the fourth quarter.

(01:01:10):
I don't believe in this Michigan team at all. I
think their phony they're frauds.

Speaker 1 (01:01:14):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (01:01:15):
I also like Ohio State to cover twenty and a
half against Penn State. Everybody and their mother is putting
money on Penn State. Penn State is walking into a slaughterhouse. Okay,
they are cattle being sent out to pasture this Ohio State.

(01:01:44):
Let's let's make sure everybody's in the same pitch. Does
everybody understand the beef between Ryan Day and Jim Knowles. Yes,
they do not like each other. There was a bad
divorce even after they won a national championship. That's how
bad it was. There still was a bad divorce. They
won the national championship. They do not like each other.

(01:02:06):
Jim Knowles is still employed by Penn State. He's still
at Penn State Ohio State. And it's not even just that.
It's not even just that Ryan Day is like putting
out statements, like the political kind of statements you say,
where it was like, yeah, he's a good guy, but
things didn't work out at the end. That is coach
to speak for. I hate this guy's guts. I hope

(01:02:27):
he gets hit by a bus right. Ryan Day is
going to see this Penn State team and is going
to want to make them feel the pain and the
angony and the angst that he had against their own
defensive coordinator and their coach. I could see Ohio State
putting up seventy on Penn State just for fun because

(01:02:51):
they have. Ohio State this year has not put the
pedal to the medal in a game, especially on offense.
They haven't shown out in the game quite yet. They've
beaten teams quite handedly, they've beat them quite dominantly. They
haven't beat them with a hammer. Yeah you know, I
you Twitter speak. They haven't beat them to death with

(01:03:13):
hanners hammers, and they haven't done that to a team yet.
And I feel like Penn State is the awaiting victim
of said hammer beating. This is gonna happen. I'm sorry.

Speaker 1 (01:03:31):
I like what you had there. I have Minnesota covering
against Michigan State Minnesota minus three. That is what I'm
seeing right now. Michigan State just came off of two
I feel like two sort of knockout punch games in

(01:03:52):
the sense that you know, they did all right against
Indiana in the first half, and then the Avalanche. The
Avalanche came, and then you know they'd all right in
the first Africans Michigan and then Michigan sort of finished
a job, you know, comfortably took it from there in
one easily. In the rivalry game, it's just reeks of Minnesota. PJ.

(01:04:18):
Fle's been there for a long time. He's gonna defend
his home field and do it with do it with style,
especially coming off of a lost for a Minnesota got
wrecked by Iowa. I think PJ. Fle's gonna have his
team rocked, locked in, ready to go, x and O's
I'm gonna take Nebraska to beat USC straight up upset city.

(01:04:45):
It's just I don't like that. But roads USC Road
USC with Lincoln Riley just ain't the same as home
USC on.

Speaker 2 (01:04:53):
Yeah, but but I get that. But they're going one.
They're going one, maybe two time zones over. They're not
going three.

Speaker 1 (01:05:05):
I need to I need a documentary on dropping a
bunch of entitled USC players and coaches into Lincoln, Nebraska.

Speaker 2 (01:05:17):
For a night. Are we labeling every single are we
every single USC players.

Speaker 1 (01:05:22):
As every single one really coaches to?

Speaker 2 (01:05:25):
I mean they're they're California kids, but that doesn't mean they're.

Speaker 1 (01:05:29):
Every single one. You know what USC stands format The
S literally, The S literally stands for spoiled.

Speaker 2 (01:05:40):
And the University of Spoiled Children's children. Yeah, yeah, children. Okay.
I don't know what the word was going to be,
and I don't know. I didn't want to be. Look, man,
I work an I'd work with a ton of South Africans,
Australians and English people.

Speaker 1 (01:05:58):
I don't want to cool cool, cool, cool none, not
going They're not going there, but like they're gonna They're
gonna land in Lincoln, Nebraska, and what maybe Friday, and
they're gonna be like, man, what's going on here? And
then they're gonna walk into Memorial Stadium and Lincoln on
a night game where Nebraska knows that Matt rule is

(01:06:21):
being in the coaching conversation. Nebraska did a good job
beating you know, Michigan State and and and uh Northwestern recently.
They haven't had that postcard poster picture image, beautiful night
game under the lights until Saturday night. And I think

(01:06:44):
they're gonna I don't know. I don't think it's gonna
be pretty. I don't think they're gonna smash them, but
I think Nebraska gonna win. So those are my two picks.
I have Nebraska upsetting USC and Minnesota covering minus three.
And we're gonna see how those go, and then we'll
have we'll lot more for you, a little more for
you next week and then maybe into basketball season as well.

(01:07:06):
We'll see how that goes. Any other thoughts here. On
this Thursday, Matt, we talked, you know, the football programs
off and running eight and O five and on the
Big Ten. I think that means what Kurt Signetti is
now eighteen and two? Is that right? As a head
coach in Indiana? Nineteen and two, my bad nineteen and two,

(01:07:26):
eleven and two, last year eight and o this year
nineteen and two the head coach in Indiana, And that means,
by the way, he's also thirteen and one in Big Ten.
Play crooked numbers, but crookeet numbers. Any final thoughts on
your end as we wind down here on this Thursday, Nah,

(01:07:56):
not really. I mean I message, yeah, I don't think.
I don't want to miss anything. I am excited for
basketball season start up a lot more than I think
some who's your fans are given.

Speaker 2 (01:08:08):
I love it given that there, you know, some of
the fan base is a little bit jaded from you know,
perfect seven years. It feels like of torture with you know,
with maybe one year with Tray Jackson Davis that was
really awesome, and that's about it. I think it's a
new era. I think I just got a coach, like

(01:08:29):
a real good coach, a really really really good coach,
like maybe a top ten coach in the sport. It
plays a fun style of basketball, whose teams really compete.
Who has a really likable story this year with a
bunch of guys that were overlooked by major programs. You
start with Tucker Devrees and and you you end with

(01:08:54):
like the likes of Lamar Wilkerson and Read Bailey and
just sign Myles and Hayte and Connorway amongst amongst them
Nick dorn And we haven't seen Nick Dorton play in
a uniform yet. He hasn't even been He hasn't played
a minute, right, And so this team has a lot
to offer. They're going to play a different style of

(01:09:14):
basketball than normal big tim basketball. We're not gonna have
banging people down on the posts, you know, banging with people.

Speaker 1 (01:09:23):
Down on the post.

Speaker 2 (01:09:24):
I'm banging people down. I hope they're not banging people
down the post. I mean they're eight eighteen consent, you know,
if that's up to them, but I hope it's just
not on my TV screen. Anyways, enough innuendosos aside. No,
I think this team is gonna shoot the shoot the

(01:09:46):
crap out of the ball, and they're going to shoot
the ball so much, you know, the rims and something
all better get worked on every single half because if
if God forbid, they're missing that night, they're the rim
is gonna a lot of work. But I mean, the
sign to me that was the biggest sign of future

(01:10:09):
success was the twenty four out of twenty five free throws.
Yeah in the game against Baylor, Yeah, only missing one
free throw which was the last one. Going almost the
whole game without missing a free throw. As a team,
it's fantastic. And that includes guys like I can't be Fana,

(01:10:33):
not Rebailey, uh but transfer for Florida, Sam Alexis, Sam
Alexi Is, sam Lexis, who's who's historically terrible free throw
shooter making all of his free throws, and so again,
I think this is a sign of of taking care
of the little things.

Speaker 1 (01:10:51):
The staff.

Speaker 2 (01:10:53):
The staff takes care of the little things. And then
on top of that, you know, obviously football is having
one amazing season. I will try to communicate better with
Niftin so that we will do podcasts more often. That
is my fault, guys, that's no one else's fault. That's
mine problem with trying to juggle living halfway across the
world time zones and having a girlfriend. So all of

(01:11:17):
that stuff is Yeah, thank you, Thank you. All of
that stuff is hard, but you guys deserve a podcast.
We deserve to absolutely talk about this IU football team
until my voice goes out.

Speaker 1 (01:11:30):
ZA and eight and oh five and oh Conference play
including wins over Illinois, Iowa and Oregon Saturday is gonna
be awesome. Yeah, it should win. You know, you know
it might be a little big goofy. I don't think
I have anything else that important. No, I think I've

(01:11:51):
covered it off, folks. That wraps it up for a
three hundred and fifty fourth show of the Hoosier Sound.
