Speaker 1 (00:06):
You fans, national college football witnesses, Welcome to our podcast.
Indiana one of the best teams in the country, if
you ask me, in contention for the best, We're not
going to get there. Seven and oh seven and oh crushed.
Nebraska erased their will. I think that was the signetti quote.
(00:31):
Just took away their will. He just casually dropped it.
You know, we just took away Nebraska's will at Memorial Stadium,
big noon kickoff Saturday, no problem, fifty six to seven, done, dusted,
onto the next one. If you're late to the party,
you could have seen this coming and guess what you're
gonna see it coming next And things, though, to be fair,
(00:55):
are getting in the fun part of the schedule. Indiana's
done the Indiana's done what they've had to do to
this point. But let's be real, folks, when it comes
to the Big ten, when it comes to CFP contenders,
we saw it back in twenty twenty. You know, the
end of the season. It feels like every play has
massive significance. So Matt and I are going to talk
about this Nebraska game. We're gonna look ahead to Washington.
(01:17):
We're gonna talk about Curtis works injury. Taman Jackson going
to come in. What can you expect their college game
day coming to Bloomington, Big ten matchups all over the
place this weekend. We're going to talk about all of
it and so much more here on episode three three
six of The Hoosier Sound where I'm your host Nathan Christian.
Here with me as usual is my co host Matt Lukens. Matt,
(01:40):
fifty six to seven. It wasn't that close. Obviously, Indiana
could have, you know, gotten sixty if they wanted. They
could have gotten seventy if they wanted. Nebraska is a
good team, Matt. I'm gonna point that out a little
bit more like I think Nebraska is a good team,
but Indiana just dusted them. Your what are your immediate
(02:01):
thoughts from from that blowout victory.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
I mean, it was an absolute murder. That's what that
game was. That was. It was not close really from
from kickoff right because how he gets the ball just
moves all the way downfield. And even though Nebraska is
able to move the ball for the first like good
but quarter and a half of the game they were,
(02:27):
they were in it and they were trying. It still
felt like Indiana just was doing everything right, and honestly,
the most impressive part to me.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Was the defense.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
I know it's hard, it's hard to like, you know,
give the not give the offense props because you score
fifty something points on a Power five opponent at home,
But I mean we held them to seven points and
we absolutely took away their run game. They couldn't run
the ball.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
So that is.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Why Patrick Mahomes, aka Nebraska's quarterback ye just could not
could not throw the ball down the field or didn't
look comfortable at the very least because he hasn't been
put in a situation all year long where Nebraska hasn't
(03:21):
been able to run the ball if the game has
been on his shoulders, and that's why he looked so bad.
Defense made big plays. Sean Asbery's interception was absolutely fabulous,
so bad, and I think Signetty said in the in
the press conference at post game, I was like, yeah,
that that game absolutely killed Nebraska, Like that was that
(03:44):
was the final nail in the coffins. Yeah, I mean
momentum was already and I used favor at that point
and that just cemented it even further. And yeah, they lost.
Nebraska lost their will to live and so did many
of the Nebraska supporters because they were talking mad crack
(04:08):
before the game and then get blown out fifty sixty
seven is quite funny. Rourke was amazing in this game,
so good. The first half that he did play, he
was amazing. The run game was exceptional. I mean we
(04:30):
all go, I think two hundred yards on Nebraska.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
And and this team is not one dimensional. It's it's
not like I've said before, It's not just a passing attack.
This is a passing is a full on.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Offense.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
This is this you can run the ball on everybody,
pass the ball on anybody. They do all the little
things really well. You know, leading up to the game,
you know, Urban Meyer on on Fox was just talking
in glowing terms about the coaching job that sificant.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
And so Nick on game day.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
So it was both game day who and I'm sure
we're gonna hear it a lot more next weekend when
they're in Bloomington, because it's going to be an absolute
eye you love best on game day rightfully, as it should,
because I mean, the job Signett he's done is nothing
short of a miracle, right taking a three and nineteen
(05:34):
last year, bringing over thirteen guys from JMU and a
bunch of other really important impact transfers from all over
the group of five really and just turning this IU
football team into in my opinion, the top five team
in the country. Like again, I still think the upper
tier of college football is like Texas, Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon,
(06:01):
like those four teams I think are the best, But
I think I he's probably the best of the rest.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
I don't know, man, I don't know, Man. I think
you're I think you're putting self imposed limitations on this
football team.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Mat.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
I'm not saying in a Ena gonna blow those teams
off the map, like I'm not saying Indiana's gonna blow
Texas up at no, nothing like that. But I think
Indiana's done enough to prove that if they had to
play Texas on a neutral site, neutral field, I'll give
them a shot. If they had to play Georgia on
a neutral field, I would give not like a miracle shot,
(06:36):
like a Indiana plus seven, right, Indiana plus four and
a half, something like that, Indiana plus ten right, Like
we're talking about thirty five forty five percent win probabilities
in all these games. If Indiana goes into Columbus and
there are some for some reason, a twenty one and
a half point underdog, like that's foolish. Now, it goes
(06:58):
back to a lot of what you were saying, right,
It goes back to a lot of what you were saying.
The headliner here is Kurt Signetti. All right, let's start there, right,
Kurt Signetti the assistant And there's a lot of conversation
about Signetti bringing over JMU guys, and look he did,
and he's admitted it. Right, JMU guys have helped establish
(07:18):
the culture a little bit. But I can't emphasize this enough.
Indiana does not have twenty two JMU starters on the
football field. Right. Signetti brought over transfers from other schools,
sewn Asberry. Right, you saw Terry Jones make a big
impact on that game Saturday. You saw CJ. West hold
(07:39):
down the fort in the interior of the offensive line.
He's a transfer from Kent State. Kent State might be
the worst FBS program in the country, and Kurt Signetti
and a lot of other schools identified him as a
valuable piece to help a defense. And Signetti won that race.
He won that He won that recruiting matchup against other
(08:02):
top schools to get CJ. West. Indiana, by the way,
lost Philip Blitty to an SEC school. Philip Blitty was
a solid player on the interior line of the defense,
and Signetti was okay with him going to another SEC school.
I believe he went to Auburn and he brought in CJ.
West instead. And CJ. West has been awesome holding down
(08:22):
the fort on the inside. When you know when, when
when there's so much going on on the football field,
never mind on the offensive side. The quarterback isn't a
JMU guy. The quarterback could have been a JMU guy.
Snetty could have brought in Jordan McLeod instead. He decided no, Actually,
(08:42):
you know what, I think we can aim higher. Jordan
McCloud's at Texas State having a decent season. But Curtis
Schark was the pick. And by the way, Tavian Jackson
was the pick for QB two, right. Isn't that kind
of interesting when you think about it now? Given the
injury news, like he made sure Taman Jackson was going
to be ready to go for QB two. Maybe he's
(09:02):
gonna eye him for a starting spot next year. Maybe
He's gonna give Tavian Jackson a chance to prove himself
at some point the season. Guess what that's coming up Saturday.
Never mind Indiana's wide receiver corps two out of three starters,
three out of four starters. If you include Miles Cross
in the mix. Not Jmu guys, Thratus Threat's awesome, but
Miles Cross, Miles Price, Omar Cooper. There's that, and then
(09:25):
the offensive line right, the offensive line stole to Shaw
on Saturday. The offensive line as well as the defensive
line for Indiana or why this feels so different to
me compared to previous Indiana teams or previous Power five teams,
Power four teams making a run during the season, having
(09:45):
a great year like this is why Joel Klatt said
Indiana feels more real than TCU from two years ago
because TCU had a massive outlier season with Max Duggan
and Quinton Johnston. Right, if the quarterback and the receivers
are great, anything's possible. It's what Washington did last year
with Kaylen Debora and Michael Pennix that wide receiving for
(10:06):
But Washington also last year, when they made the National
Championship Game, had a devastating pass rush, and they had
a solid offensive line. And that's what this Indiana team
does so well. Indiana is a wagon upfront. I mean
Mike Caddick came he came back from a three and nineteen.
Bray Lynch came back from a three and nineteen, Carter Smith,
(10:30):
same deal. This is in an Ohio state. You know,
you know transfer class, this isn't you know. We're ringing
up Georgia and bringing in guys just to play up
front for Indiana. Indiana has beasts up front. They're great
at pass protecting, they're great at running the ball. Indiana
is excellent in the trenches. That doesn't happen that frequently
(10:55):
at a lower level power conference school. When you win,
you have to win through your outlier quarterback. You got
to win through your outlier receivers who explode. Have an
amazing season. Boise State doing you with Ashton gent right like,
you got to have a legend quarterback receiver running back.
(11:15):
Indiana is doing so much of this hard work right
now with an outstanding trench. I'm not surprised that Indiana
beating Nebraska. You could have easily told me in previous years.
Indiana beat Nebraska in twenty nineteen and Lincoln. It's happened before.
It's not groundbreaking news. But the way this is different
is Indiana baald Nebraska. On both sides of the ball.
(11:40):
Up front, Dylan Ryola is under constant pressure, relentless pressure,
especially once Indiana went up. Indiana cleared the way it
happened the first three plays of the game. On the
first play of the game, go back and watch. It
stood out to me watching it in real time because
it's very unusual, as someone who's watched IU football for
(12:02):
decades now to see Curtis Rourke on the first drop
back of the game, take the snap, go through four
progressions and checking down to the running back for a
six yard game. There was no disruptive pressure. He was
able to look through, survey the field, dump it off.
I think it was to Ellison. Ellison picked up six. Boom,
(12:24):
We're off and running. And then on third and two,
third and one, third and two, huge seas parting up
front for Justin Ellison to go for a forty yard
game in a Nebraska teriatry. Indiana scores. We're off and running,
let's go, let's party, and Matt look Elijah Surratt was incredible.
You saw once again a defense, the and an offense.
(12:46):
This team looks so prepared, they look so focused, they
look so ready to go. I mean, if you if
you look at this team right now, where can they
get better?
Speaker 2 (12:58):
Right?
Speaker 1 (12:58):
We know that Tavin Jay is somebody that is going
to have to step in here with the Curtis work injury.
But through seven games, undefeated, number thirteen in the country,
where do you think this team can take a step
forward to max their max their production on even more
as we had it to the critical weeks of the season.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
It's a really really good question. I think the secondary.
They had a good game against Nebraska and they forced
a lot of turnovers, but they also the corners at
times will get caught, you know, either flat footed or
whatever whatever it is, on defense and they end up
(13:38):
you know, we've had quite a few pass interference calls
against us or on critical third downs teams getting or
third and long getting successful. Yeah, first down conversions like
in those moments, really locking in and keeping the mistakes
(13:59):
to them, Like that's that's probably what could improve. And
I can't believe I'm saying that about a team that
just one fifty seven. But it's it's I mean, like
if you're gonna go up against in in December, if
if the playoff is really gonna happen, and you're gonna
be playing against teams like Alabama, You're playing against teams
like Tennessee, be playing against teams like LSU, you know
(14:23):
you can't be having those mistakes against those teams. The
teams will make you pay. So that on the de
and on the offensive side, staying staying fundamental, right, not
trying to get too tricky. For instance, you know you
saw the I think it was was it Justice Ellison
that tried to throw the pass or the twice on one,
(14:46):
the fancy trick play that they tried with with with Ellison.
You know, you know, if you're against a better team,
they might actually have that cupboard and that throw might
have actually been picked off. H So again, that's that's
something you got to kind of rain in a little
bit like Indiana does all the little things right, So
(15:09):
just stick with that, right, don't try to overcomplicate something
that's working. But that's just that's such fine tuning stuff,
Like do you understand that like this is this is
like nitpicking like a nitpicker's nitpick this that this is
what performance. That's exactly what they're doing. That's exactly what
(15:31):
they're doing. That's what they should be doing. And that's
why you know, we're up what forty points in the
spot quarter and they're panning over to or at least
like five touchdowns. We're up rough five scores and they're
panning over to uh Signetti on the broadcast and coach
Sigg is sitting there looking so upset, like he looked
(15:54):
like we were down four scores. That's that was the
mood he had because he saw people making little tiny
missa little things.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
Little things. Yeah, I will say.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
You know, he even said it himself, right, he said
that he was being a psychopath. And I love that
out of my head ball coach, Like, that's what I want.
I want him to be a psychopath. And we have
one right now in Bloomington, Oh for sure.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
Yeah. I mean for me, Like I'm also looking at
the defense here, it just seems like they're one or
two lowells each game where it kind of maybe lose
their edge for a little bit. It's been a consistent
theme kind of all season. I don't know if that's
like a leadership thing, not saying Indiana is lacking that.
Aidan Fisher is awesome in that department. Jalen Walker, James Carpenter,
(16:42):
you know a lot of one. El Carr. I think
all of these players have been cited as far as Hey,
these are some of the leaders here. Defensively, I don't
see there's an issue there, but just you know, if
you can clean it up, right, we're identifying things to
clean up one or two things. Just try to keep
that level going all game. You know, of course we
haven't seen what Indiana is like playing from behind literally,
(17:04):
so you know, we're.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Still seven games in and I we haven't been losing
that for a second. Well, like it is unimaginable that
that that would be the case. And look, we were
we were so excited for this team, right, Yeah, the
start of the year.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
I was fired about this team. I was like six
and six. I think they're going to be good.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
I said eight and four. I said eight and four.
I thought we were going to be good. And I
I look because I put self imposed limitations team and
said eight and four. They could reach my win total
next week.
Speaker 1 (17:40):
Saturday at thirty.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
On Saturday at three thirty, week October eight. No Indiana,
And actually I'll come out here and say it.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
I expect us.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
To win on Saturday. I don't.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
I don't go into a game anywhere going I hope
we can. No.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
No, not this team, not.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
This team, Not this team. I expect to win.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
There's unreasonable to.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Kick the others team's ass from one from kickoff to
kneeling out the clock. That's what I expect, and you
all should expect that.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
To go crazy about this team, Like, go crazy, folks,
be be on, be unlimited, unreserved in your optimism about
this team, unbridled, go crazy, Gonuts. Defend Indiana to all
your Oregon friends, to all your Penn State friends, Ohio State, Texans,
Georgia sec friends, Like, defend this team. Man, They're good
enough to win any game they play on their schedule
(18:36):
the rest of the way.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
Yeah, I've been talking with my brother, and I've been
talking with brother because my little brother, if you don't know,
goes to grad school at Penn State. That's why I
lived in State College for a bit, because I was
living with him, hanging out. I'm not sure that I
you isn't better than Penn State. Not friends.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
I'm sure all a lot of you have Notre Dame friends
out there.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
Actually, I think DA is better than Penn State at football.
I think they're better than Michigan at football. They're better
than us obviously a football. They're better than Notre Dame
at football. They're better than I guess said. I think
they're a top five team, like I I so you
said they're better than nine nine percent of the country,
Like I'm not going to talk about prep.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Like I want to be clear, I literally think Indiana
has went on Saturday was one of the most impressive
Big Ten football performances I've ever seen. Like I want
to be like, I want to be quit because this
isn't like Ohio State beating Nebraska sixty three to seven
a few years ago. But Ohio State was a juggernaut.
It's five star recruits everywhere. It's it's it was justin
fields at quarterback, who's outstanding as a college QB. He
(19:44):
was able to explode offensive weapons left, right and center right.
Think about all the amazing receivers Ohio State has had.
Think about all the amazing rosters Michigan has had over
the years, even going back a decade or so like
Wisconsin Penn State have had amazing teams. Indiana as a
team sort of cob like put together in a lot
of different ways. First year coach six point favorite. Nebraska's
(20:08):
resources are incredible, tradition, history, incredible. They're able to do
what they want. They were able to pluck away Dylan
Ryola from Georgia, a five star QB. They were able
to just take him away from Georgia. Okay, and there
you go. It's not even a debate now you even
discussion by ah in Nebraska is what they do. Nebraska
(20:28):
is one hundred thousand people every game. They've had a
sellout streak of I think five hundred games. They have
four hundred or five hundred games. And they kept going
earlier this year and Indiana did everything better every play
from start to finish. And it was fifty six to seven,
and it was a sellout crowd, and it was Gus
(20:48):
Johnson and a Joel Klatt and it was big nude
on Fox and the sun was out and Indian's going
crazy like that was one of the most impressive performances
I've ever seen. There was nothing fluky about it. It
was trench play. It was back play, it was receiver play,
it was defense. Let's just talk about it, Matt, Indiana's
minus one twenty right now on DraftKings Sportsbook to make
(21:09):
the College Football play minus one twenty, so more likely
than not they are supposed to supposed to make it.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
They're fourteen p plus were for an S and P
plus for a sixty five percent chance to make the playoff.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
There you go a conference champ. Indiana is a plus
fourteen hundred to win the Big Ten. I still think
there's value there because right now they've got Oregon at
plus one thirty, Ohio State plus one forty five, Penn
State three fifty, Indiana plus fourteen hundred. The problem comes
with Indiana having to go to Ohio State if you
lose out Ohio State, Indiana has a big issue with
(21:46):
the tie breakers involved. Indiana needs a little bit of
help in order to get to the Big Ten title game,
if not win the whole thing, and then in the
in the CFP race, Indiana's plus six thousand to win
the national championship. And all I'm going to say, Matt,
is I think a national championship is in play for
this team. I'm not saying it's happening. I'm not saying
(22:06):
it's likely. I'm saying it's realistic.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
I don't think it's realistic, but I don't think it's unreal.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
I think it's possible. I think it's in play. By
the way, Indiana is minus one twenty to make the
College Football Playoff, is tenth among teams listed, So you
can sort of do the math in your head twelve
team playoff. Indiana's the tenth team listed. Indiana is ahead
of LSU, Texas A and M Alabama, Boise State, Iowa State,
Kansas State, Ole Miss in case you're considering, Hey, who
(22:35):
are these other teams that could maybe leap frog Indiana?
So that's where that's where the Hoosiers are There anything
else stand out to you, Matt? About the CFP race,
the Big Ten title race? Like what we're talking about
as far as Indiana is concerned, What's what's what's next here?
How long is the season gonna go? Matt?
Speaker 2 (22:55):
I mean, it's gonna go however long the team wants
it to go on for. Yeah, that's the end answer. Yeah,
I mean, yeah, the high stake games canna be tough,
but we're off every look, I was about to say
we're off bye. And every single week I've said, oh,
the high stakes gonna be tough. Every single time I've
(23:17):
said that, I've gotten increasingly more confident that we could
make that a like a game, to the point where
now I genuinely think, like Ohios has gon be favored
by like at most a touchdown. Right now, I would say,
I say I'm favored by seven.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Maybe they should be favored.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
They're going to be favored, of course they should be favored.
But I'm I'm not going to be surprised if that
line is going to be plus one and a half
by the time we get to that game right in Columbus.
And that's that's basically in Vegas saying this is a
coin flip, right, and having a coin flip game against
(23:58):
Ohio State is not something I thought was in the
cards for the season at the beginning of the year,
no matter how high. But I think I will say this,
the overarching mood that I have after the Nebraska game
is this, so Nebraska goes and gets I mean, they
had a pretty decent portal class themselves, if I remember correctly,
(24:20):
including flipping a lot of guys from other Power five
programs over to Nebraska, and then you flip Dylan Riola
from Georgia. He was almost going to go to Florida
and now he's there right flipping them over to Nebraska.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
They crapped on Colorado started the season. That looks like
a really good win.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
It still looks like a really good win. I don't
think Nebraska is that bad of a program and that
bad of a team right now. The two things that
stood out to me from this game was that our staff,
the staff that is currently at IU Signetti, did two
things better last over the off season and last game
(25:08):
than I think I've ever seen an IU staff do slash,
maybe better than I've ever seen any other staff do
anywhere else in the country. And that is one talent identification.
Every single player they brought in has contributed in some
way other than Nick Kidwell, who obviously was injured from
(25:30):
the beginning of the season, but other than Nick Kidwell,
every other player has contributed in some major way, and
including going and get guys that, yes, Power five teams
were looking at, but they weren't at Power five schools.
They looked at these guys, identified their talent at a
lower level and said these guys can absolutely kill at
the power five level, and that gives me the utmost
(25:55):
confidence for the future of the program because that doesn't
just go away. You don't just magically hit on thirteen transfers.
All of them are good. Like that is these guys
and our staff sitting down and going, this is what
they got, this is what we can do with them,
this is how we can make them better, and this
(26:17):
is how we can get the most out of them.
And that's the staff we currently have, which is an
absolute juggernaut. Pooh Signetti and the staff completely and utterly
out coached Matt Rule on Saturday. It was a coaching masterclass.
And let's not forget Matt Rule was an NFL head coach.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
Team I'm amazing at Baylor and at Temple.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
Yeah, head coach like three years ago, coach like like
what four years ago? Coach?
Speaker 1 (26:50):
Yes, and just.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Walked him up and down the field completely, just just
dragged Matt Rule's body behind the wagon. That is I
I mean, I got people all my Michigan friends are
asking me if they can band wagon the team I've got.
I've got friends from some of my Florida teams asking
me if they can band wagon. I mean, I you
(27:13):
as America's team and it's all thanks to Signetti. And
I tweeted something out yesterday yesterday morning. It's basically like,
we need to extend him tomorrow yesterday tonight. Like I'm
and I'm still not kidding about that. I know the
season not over, it's halfway done. I know he's not
gonna want to probably do contract talks, but that needs
(27:35):
to be the first thing whenever this magical season ends.
That needs to be the first thing that's done in
the off season. That needs to be the first thing,
first order of the business for the athletic department, because
I don't care if you have to make him one
of the five highest paid coaches in the country, because
it'll be worth it, like for the long term longevity,
(27:57):
of the long term longevity, for the long jet of
the of the athletic department, not even just the football program,
but for the athletic department as a whole. Keeping Signetti
around for us permanently, really until he decides to hang
up his his whistle and decides to move on from
coaching exactly, but until that happens. Until that happens, IU
(28:24):
needs to keep him in Bloomington because you'll have a
winning football program. The guy all he does win right,
Like I'm I'm projecting like at minimum nine games, nine
win seasons per season. It completely rejuvenates the image of
this program and all of the money you bring in,
all the money you bring in from football, I mean
(28:47):
me workhorse for every other Power five program. Football is where.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
The money is made.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
Making playoff makes you more money as a as a
the athletic department. And I don't normally believe in trickle
down economics when it comes to politics, but I absolutely
believe and trickle down economics when it comes to the
athletic department because now instead of people donating money for
(29:18):
the athletic department to do you know, the basic things
like get more scholarships and run some of the non
the nonprofitable programs, now you can use that non revenue sports.
Now you can use that football money that you've made,
the extra money on top and allow those people to
(29:39):
extend those donations to nil. So now the football program
is getting better players. Now the basketball player is getting
better players. Now the women's basketball team is getting better players.
It will trickle down. It'll help the basketball program as
much as it will help the football program. To keep
Signetti around, he needs to stay in Bloomington permanently. Like
(30:04):
you give him a life of contract, you you him.
I don't care if his contract is it means three
million a year right now. I don't care if that
that approaches ten or more. I don't care because all
of the money that you're investing into him will come
back ten to the program per year, Yes, per year.
(30:25):
If you can have a win, and if.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
You don't, someone else will absolutely.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
I mean, uh, my friends in Florida have been texting
me wanting him to be the UF head coach. I've
got Florida State fans wanting to be Florida State's head coach.
I've got you know, USC fans wanting fire uh their
head code Lincoln Riley for Signetti. I got all my
Michigan friends are texting me that they want Signetti.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Man, what if it happens right in the Big ten, Like,
what what if.
Speaker 2 (30:56):
He's going to be the number one name on everybody's especially.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Virginia Pitt from where he's from. I'vean not Pit so much.
Pit's having a good season, but West Virginia is right
from having just a backyard.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
Is Pitt's having just as amazing as season as we are.
It's just going, it's just going really really under the
radar there right right, But no, I.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
Know it's true. If they don't, if Indiana doesn't, someone
else will. And so it's up to Scott Dolson. And look,
part of the reason Signetty came to Indiana, I'm sure
is because of the massive billion dollar TV contract. And
you know what, Indiana gets a chunk of that, right,
Indiana gets a share of that one eighteen share of
that TV. I think it's a little bit more actually
than the new PAC twelve schools that join the league.
(31:38):
I think especially Oregon and Washington. I think you see
USC and UCLA might get the same share as the rest,
but I think Oregon and Washington get a little bit less.
So Indiana gets a piece of that TV contract. Indiana's getting, Dana,
I l Indiana's getting all this like turn it into
financial belief and investment in your head, coach, because he
deserves it. I am curious what Indiana's you know, how
(32:01):
much interest there will be in Indiana's assistance because they
are younger. Mike Chanahan, Brian Haynes Tino Sinceri. If that happens, Signetti,
I'm sure will adapt to that climate and bring in better,
you know, better you know assistants that are just as
good capable of implementing his idea as his culture. But no,
it's a very legitimate conversation. We're gonna talk about Curtis
Fork and Tat and Jackson here in just a second, folks.
(32:23):
But first it's time for who won the week this
past week in IU sports, and we're gonna tip our
cap to IU men's soccer. Man like a lot of
good news as far as that program is concerned. They're
on an absolute heater. Coach Yeglee Toddyegley picks up his
two hundred career win, which is like an unbelievable number
as far as college soccer is concerned. Aren't too many
(32:43):
games in a college soccer season in the grand scheme
of things, and he's racked up two hundred wins his
first season at IU is twenty ten, Jagley is the
winning his coach in NCAA Division One men's soccer in
that time. I U is on a seven game unbeaten streak.
They knocked off Michigan, who was ranked on the road.
(33:04):
They knocked off Michigan State won three one there, and
now Indiana sits atop the Big Ten standings after a
little bit of a rough start to the season. Indiana's
seventeen points, Maryland sixteen, Ohio State thirteen. Ohio State has
a couple of games in hand. I believe on Indiana
(33:26):
as far as the rest of the season is concerned,
so it's going to be a type Big Ten race
Indiana and Soccer with your time to play at UCLA
on Friday. I believe that's going to be on Big
Ten network, so it should be a really really good
game there. This IU team, man, they looked a bit
rough to start the season, but they've really cleaned it
up now ready to roll. They host Northwestern on Tuesday,
(33:47):
October twenty ninth, so if you're able to make it,
that is the final Big Ten home game before IU
hosts Trime to end the season on Friday, November first,
make sure you head over to Armstrong if you haven't yet.
It's a fun atmosphere, so it's a good time. Make
sure you give it a look.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
Folks.
Speaker 1 (34:02):

you can imagine, so you know, join the join the
masses here. We love to hear what you have to say.
(34:23):
Make sure you hop over give us a follow if
you have not already. Matt we we we were a
little nervous, like what would happen if Curtis worked? Got
her right? Like that was always a question. And well,
stupid helmet that got in the way. Stupid Nebraska helmet
(34:43):
gotten the way. Heard us throwing hand thumb wrist. I
think it's a thumb officially, And Indiana's gotta go next,
Man up, baby, And Tavian Jackson is that guy Jackson
who started six games last for Indiana. No, I don't
think it's he appeared in six games for Indiana last year.
(35:05):
It is all over the map for tavan Jackson, big
showing in that Louisville game. It's rough against Maryland, It's
all over. It was all over the map. But Kurt
Signetti saw something enough right. Tavin Jackson came over from Tennessee.
Obviously center grove guy Trace Jackson. Davis's brother Kurt Signetti
saw enough of him to say, hey, Tavan, don't leave.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
Don't leave.
Speaker 1 (35:31):
Tavin Jackson won the backup job. You look good in
the spring game. He looked good in the Western Illinois game,
and he looked good against Nebraska. He was ready to
go for the moment. How do you summarize where Indiana
is with Tavin Jackson, Matt compared to Curtis work? And
what are you looking forward to as far as Tavin
Jackson is concerned.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
I would say compare like, Well, the offense is run
by Curtis, It's obviously looks more comfortable. I would say
the offense, though, under Tavin Jackson is more dynamic in
different ways. And here's why. I the threat of Rourke
running the ball out of an RPO is not minimal,
(36:19):
but not enough where teams have to respect it. Paven
Jackson's ability to run the ball out of their PO
and in situations in which he needs to pick up
yards is a lot more important for defenses to be
in on. So it just brings a different dynamic that
(36:40):
Rourke doesn't bring Obviously, he doesn't have the same throwing ability.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
I'm not saying that.
Speaker 2 (36:44):
I'm just saying it makes linebackers life a living hell
having to play against a guy who can run the
ball efficiently and Haven, even though he hasn't really shown
the ability to do that at times in IU uniform,
has the ability to do that. So he's an athlete.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
Yeah, yes, he is, exactly And like before we get
to anything else, right, for me, it's like put yourself
in Tavan Jackson's shoes for a second. The guy went
to Tennessee, right, of course, Indiana, Indiana. Kid grew up
in the state, grew up Center, grew up Indianapolis. Trace
Jackson Davis's younger brother. Right, he goes to Tennessee. He
(37:33):
probably wants to spread his wings. He probably wants to
see what life is like outside of the state lines.
I don't blame him. SEC school, they know what they're doing.
Josh Hypel good offense. Tavan Jackson is on the roster
for Tennessee's big win over Alabama a couple of years
ago in Hendon Hooker was the quarterback. Jalen hy At
the receiver. Right huge win in Knoxville amazing atmosphere. Tavan
(37:57):
Jackson's way, one day, I'm going to be the quarterback
there of one hundred thousand people on Rocky Top and
it just didn't work out. And he comes back to
Indiana in the darkest time of this program, like we
came off of a three win four win season and
we're going into a three win season and he comes
(38:17):
in and he gets thrown to the Wolves. Man, that
coaching staff was so desperate. They had no they had
no plan, they had no preparation, they had no focus.
They threw them to the Wolves against Louisville Big ten teams.
And after all that, Tavin Jackson says, I'm not leaving.
(38:43):
I'm not leaving.
Speaker 4 (38:44):
I'm gonna stay. Like Signetti convinced me or I convinced him.
I don't know how that went, but Tavin Jackson says,
you know, I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna play this out, right,
we'll see maybe what happened after the twenty twenty four season.
Speaker 1 (39:01):
I'm going to play the South And this is his
moment now, right, and is his moment at halftime last Saturday, right,
he was ready to go against Nebraska he was fired up,
he was ready to go. He was perfect, practically perfect.
That thrown a Surat down the left sideline. Are you kidding? Beautiful?
Are you kidding? He put the ball only where Sarah
(39:25):
could get it, and Surat made the play. That's how
it goes, tavan Jackson another a couple of other easy completions.
Put the ball right in stride man, swing past the
Tyson lot and right in stride Tyson Lot didn't have
to break his sprint. Perfect delivery, you know, quick completions. Obviously,
life is easier when you're up four touchdowns. Don't get
(39:46):
me wrong, but there's a lot to work with here
and again, how fired up do you think Tavian Jackson
is going to be?
Speaker 2 (39:55):
Man?
Speaker 1 (39:57):
This is his This his sellout crowd. He should be
Memorial Stadium. He's gonna have a chance to take a
top thirteen team even higher in the rankings. This is
a moment I'm so excited to watch on Saturday. This
I've been fired up for every game this season. Let's
be real, Okay, I've been fired up for every game
this season, but I'm not looking ahead to this game
(40:20):
on Saturday with dread or with fear or with anxiety.
Speaker 2 (40:24):
I am.
Speaker 1 (40:25):
I'm looking at it with anticipation and excitement and optimism
because I'm so confident. And I'm not saying Tavan Jackson
is Kurdish Wark. Curtis Rourke, I think is a Heisman
Trophy contender. Last week I called him the best passer
in college football. So I'm not calling Tavan Jackson that.
Speaker 2 (40:42):
But no, from.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
A standpoint of a perspective of hey, this is a
guy who's gonna go out there, man, And not only
is he gonna help Indiana win this game, He's gonna
be a valuable player and Indiana's caused to win this
game on Saturday. He's gonna help this team. He's also
gonna get so much the gratification out of it. This
is this is what it's about. Man. Think about the story, Signett.
(41:07):
He's gonna be able to tell to recruits if Tavan
Jackson has a great game on Saturday, yep. If you stay,
even if you're not the starter, probably even if you're
not the starter, right, believe in me, man. Don't go
for greener pastures. Go don't go to a coach who
might help you out. Maybe if everything works out, you
(41:31):
might you might find life better there if you come here.
Man James Madison, QBS, Toddson, TEO, Jordan McLeod. Conference players
of the Year Curtis Rourke probably the leader right now
for a Conference offensive Player of the Year. Tavan Jackson's
gonna come in Saturday, and I am so excited for
(41:55):
the team and for the fan base. But I'm excited
for him. And I'm not saying, like, oh, best on
Tavan jack don't do anything. Just watch the game on Saturday,
right I'm looking forward to seeing a team with explosive plays,
dynamic plays. There's gonna be a little bit of a
roller coaster involved. Washington's a good team, all right. Washington's
not you know, Washington's not you know, Western Illinois. There's
(42:15):
gonna be some ups and downs. It's not gonna be
fifty six to seven. Don't expect Indiana win games by
forty nine points every week. It doesn't matter like it
matters who the quarterback is, it matters who the opponent is.
There are gonna be bumps. James Evans will be out
there to punt a football in the first half. Bold
bold take, Okay, bold prediction. I'm sorry, James Evans will
have a punt in the first half. Indian might, Indiana
might even trail. But I'm looking I'm so excited for
(42:37):
Tavin Jackson man his opportunity here. I'm so looking forward
to seeing him going out on the field in Bloomington
on Saturday. Looks like it's gonna beautiful weather. Just spread
the ball around, man, rely on your teammates, you put in,
You've put in the time, you put in the effort.
I can't wait to see this guy go out there
and help Indiana's cause on Saturday. It's gonna be a
(42:59):
little bumpy. It's gonna be a little bumpy, but I'm
looking forward to it. Indiana should, Indiana should be all right.
If you asked me, Matt, game Day is going to
be in town, ESPN. It's gonna be fun, a fun
atmosphere Saturday morning, the whole squad. I don't know. Game
day may have lost a little bit of its luster.
I don't know. Maybe it's a little bit bigger, if
a deal for those of us who you know, went
(43:20):
to college a few years ago compared to those who
are in college now. But this is still a big dealer, right,
It's a huge deal.
Speaker 2 (43:28):
Yeah, And I don't think. I don't think game Day
has lost any of his luster. Okay, I'm sorry, though,
I think maybe I think I think it's just as
popular as it once was.
Speaker 3 (43:37):
I mean, you show, it showed how you saw the
Fox News Yeah, was super packed. The Barstool Show, which
was across Yes, also.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
Just as past Yes. And uh, I mean college game
Day is going to be absolutely electrical atmosphere. I wonder,
I wonder where they're gonna do it, because they could
do it in front of the stadium, right, they could
do in front of the stadium, But I want them
to do it on Kirkwood.
Speaker 1 (44:04):
I want Kelly to do it.
Speaker 2 (44:06):
I want them to do it right in front of
sample gates on Kirkwood close off Indiana there. Uh, I
love it.
Speaker 1 (44:14):
Indiana Avenue, yeah, I think it's Indiana Avenue Yeah. And
Kirkwood Yeah that that area, yeah, that area there.
Speaker 2 (44:20):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (44:21):
Of course the Rock is now sold out for the season,
which is awesome to hear. Game Day should be an
unbelievable event. It should be uh, it should be absolute scenes. Yeah,
big newon kickoff on Saturday, it was awesome. There was
a four minute clip. I retweeted it around Indiana hqu
on Saturday morning of just Tom Rinaldi talking about how
great the football season has been to this point. That
(44:43):
was incredible. At John Mellencamp was awesome. I think he cussed.
You know, we found out what his favorite curse word was,
and so you know, it was all all good times,
all good vibes. Yeah, it should be great. I'm looking
forward to the Pat McAfee, Nick Saban, Kurt Signetti for
relationship or you know, as far as hey, Pat McAfee,
West Virginia pit guy signetti from his backyard. Pat McAfee
(45:06):
had signetti on game day. Of course, the whole ESPN
squad had signetti on game day last year with James Madison.
Nick Saban of course has that relationship with bringing signetti
into Alabama a decade or so ago. So I'm very
much gonna tune in looking forward to it. I can't
wait to hear who the guest picker is going to be.
I can't wait to hear what the location is going
(45:27):
to be.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
Okay, if if I had to put if I had
to put.
Speaker 1 (45:31):
My mon that makes a lot of sense.
Speaker 2 (45:33):
Maybe it would be really funny. But I was about
to say it would be really funny if they had
Joe Book and Troy It's right on the broadcast together
as Indiana football fans. That would be funny if they
came up together, because I think it's the most obvious choice.
Speaker 1 (45:49):
Right.
Speaker 2 (45:51):
They're not going to bring Cuban up as much as
I would love to because he's been very political.
Speaker 1 (45:55):
Reason in politics.
Speaker 2 (45:56):
Yeah, yeah, a little politics, so that's not going to happen.
Speaker 1 (46:00):
Everring Mike Pence probably for the same reason.
Speaker 2 (46:03):
They could bring pen expect that would be funny.
Speaker 4 (46:06):
WHOA.
Speaker 1 (46:07):
I did notice I was looking ahead to Washington Atlanta
does have a game on Sunday, because I was curious, like,
oh what if? But Atlanta's going back to Tampa, of course,
where Pennix is from, and so he probably has to yeah.
Speaker 2 (46:25):
Or whatever, he's the other but it's it will be
Joe Buck and Okay, I like that. That's what I
think it will be. ESPN guys now too.
Speaker 1 (46:36):
I saw someone throw Caitlyn Clark. Come on, come on, guys,
we're gonna do no guy, guys, let's let's let's chill
for a second. Okay, all right, we just settled out
a huge, huge Kaitlin Clark come on. We got we
got plenty of women's basketball prestige royalty that we can
put on our on our game day show if we
(46:57):
want to go down that road.
Speaker 2 (46:59):
So Chill sold out Assembly Hall last year to boo her.
Speaker 1 (47:04):
Calein Clark has said, that's the toughest atmosphere she's played in, right,
because now in the w NBA, wherever she goes, it's
a home game. Yeah where And last year it was
very similar a lot of college arena she went to.
It was a home game. But just like we saw
with football on Saturday, just like we regularly see with
men's basketball and we regularly see with women's basketball, it's
a partisan crowd. It is Creem and Crimson all the
(47:25):
way rooting on the Hoosiers and so that. So yeah,
it should be an amazing atmosphere. I'm looking I'm so
fired up for Tam and Jackson. Man, this is this
is what this is what sports are about, right, Like,
this is what sports are about. It's like, you know what,
everyone's journey is a little bit different, no one's development
is the same. There, you can't you can't do sports. AI.
AI will never get into sports, man Like as much
(47:47):
as you can, you know, look up facts and whatever,
but like you look up stats and stuff, but just
as far as like how guys develop and their stories,
this is this is what it's all about. It's gonna
be It's gonna be absolutely awesome. Yeah, he might, he
might struggle. I don't care. But like I'm looking forward
to him helping Indiana win that game on Saturday. It's
gonna be awesome.
Speaker 2 (48:07):
I think I think he'll do very well. I would
be remissed if I didn't just put this out there
into the universe. I was listening to Crimson Test. They
did a podcast.
Speaker 1 (48:18):
Oh I have not listened to that one yet. They're
so good though.
Speaker 2 (48:21):
This morning I believe they did it. Or was it
last night that they did it. I don't remember. It's
all confusing to me now, but I will say I
was listening to them, and Galen Claudvio had a interesting point,
which was the the wording of the announcement is expected
(48:42):
not to play, not he's out, because he's expected. Rourkee
is expected not to play. So the cope in my
brain says that this is the IU staff taking the
opportunity to make Washington defensive coordinators and head coaches and
coaching staff to prepare for two quarterbacks or I mean
(49:06):
that's what that's telling me.
Speaker 1 (49:08):
My brother and I were talking about it again. We're
all we're all just speculating. This is all just fun
speculation going into Saturday. We don't know the full story,
but we were thinking, hey, maybe this is like Tavian
Jackson played well second half, so.
Speaker 2 (49:19):
You know what.
Speaker 1 (49:21):
Rourke is his thumb is hurt. So we're gonna give
Tavia Jackson a chance to start on Saturday. If Curtis
Ork needs to be an emergency sort of not an emergency.
If Curtis work needs to be a backup in case
of emergency, we'll put him in the game.
Speaker 2 (49:35):
Right.
Speaker 1 (49:35):
If Tavia Jackson does have a nightmare, start three for
fifteen to start the game, you know, just not seeing
the field, just a little bit overwhelmed by the moment. Hey,
we're not gonna put Tyler Cherry Albert Albert to Mondoza
in the game just yet. Let's say Curtis come in,
we need you help us break glass. Let's go firehead.
Speaker 2 (49:56):
That's what I was trying to is that I still
tavan will start, Yeah, but I think that if he
does struggle or you know, God forbid he goes down
with a little bit of a something something exactly. Rourke
can come in and play like I think he'll probably
(50:17):
suit up against Washington. He won't be in street clothes,
so that's all I gotta say. And hockily he'll be
back from Michigan State.
Speaker 1 (50:25):
Yeah, that'd be great. And you know otherwise, hey, or
let's also hope Tavin Jackson puts up three hundo and
you know three TV. I don't ask for much. All right,
let's talk about Washington in a second. For instance, time
for our social media shout out, folks if you if
you want, try to find us on social media Twitter, Facebook, YouTube.
(50:46):
We are Indiana HQ and at the Hoosier sound Matt
on Instagram and not Indiana HQ. But what are we
Indiana dot h exactly. You can find us there. Keep
again joining the masses across the ten thousand following Mark
on Twitter recently. Make sure you you know, like, retweet
share our stuff if you already do, Tell a friend,
(51:06):
tell a neighbor, tell a stranger. It doesn't really matter
where you're one stop shop for IU sports. All right,
Matt Washington comes to town. They're unranked. They're four and
three walkover right, not so fast. I'm not sure they're
that much worse than Nebraska is. In fact, I might
even put them on the same level as Nebraska. Indiana
is a seven point favorite right now, partly because of
(51:27):
the Taman Jackson News, partly because Washington's pretty good over
unders fifty three. Why do I say Washington's good? Go
back and look at their game against Rutgers. Washington lost
to Rutgers, but completely dominated. I know it sounds stupid.
I know it sounds, you know, straight nerd language, dorkline
analytics language. But like, Washington was so much better, so
(51:51):
much more frequently than Rutgers was. Except Washington had a
penalty during that game where someone came off the sideline
and committed an sports and like conduct penalty during the play.
Washington had a just awful turnovers at the worst times.
By the way, in Washington's other two losses against Iowa
(52:13):
and Washington State, they outgained both of those opponents as well.
So Washington is out gained yardage wise their opponents and
all three losses. I'm not sure there's another team that
can stake that claim right now. The ESPN sp plus crew.
Bill Connolly has Washington as a fifth most let's say,
(52:34):
the fifth unluckiest team in FBS this year. So out
of one hundred and twenty so teams, Washington's fifth unluckiest.
They're the fifth most unlucky team as far as the
entire country is concerned. They like to throw the ball.
You know, Will Rodgers, he's going to distribute, Mike Leach
protege a rip. Will Rodgers moves the ball around, uses
the middle of the field, short, medium, deep distances. He's
(52:58):
able to He's able to spread it around. Denzel Boston
good receiver, solid running game. They're not quite They're not
close to the level they were as far as their
national championship team. Indiana is better. But Matt, you know
what are you looking forward to seeing out of this game?
In Washington comes to Bloomington on Saturday for a noon
kickoff on BTN.
Speaker 2 (53:17):
If the defense can continue to dominate, because you know,
you had a Nebraska team that was very not there,
weren't one dimensional, but very run heavy, right, and you
completely dominated them. Now you have a team that's not
one dimensional but very pass heavy. Now can you do
the same, right, Like, can you do the inverse.
Speaker 1 (53:39):
Right, they're gonna be comfortable playing from behind. Right, they're
gonna be comfortable. If they're down fourteen, they're gonna keep going.
Speaker 2 (53:45):
That's right, They're gonna keep going. So I want to see,
you know, kind of the strides the defense makes. You know,
we saw kind of the improvement from the from before
the bye week to last weekend. Right, So let's see
if that was a fluke or if that was more
of an indication of how amazing the staff is. And
(54:06):
I tend to lean towards the staff being absolutely amazing. Also,
the other thing I would like to see is you
have a backup GBA, can you still run the ball?
Speaker 1 (54:18):
Like?
Speaker 2 (54:18):
Can you still run the ball? Because Washington's gonna overload
the box? Now, you just ran for two hundred yards
on a team that hadn't allowed a single rushing touchdown
all season and was like what I think number one
against the run or top five against the runs in
the entire country. You know they're gonna they're gonna notice that.
They're gonna notice that on tape, so they're gonna come
(54:39):
out with the game plan to stop the run and
stop by you from being comfortable. Can I you still
impose their will. Can they still be more physical in Washington?
Can they still, even with a numbers disadvantage, move the
ball efficiently enough on the ground that those RPOs and
the play action passing can actually work out to I
(55:02):
use advantage and get David Jackson into a rhythm and
keep him comfortable and keep him from being in this
very similar situation that Dylan Royola was in last weekend.
Speaker 1 (55:15):
Yeah. Great, no, great, great, great points all around. I mean,
it's incredible to see some of these numbers Washington has
put up, even though their record is just four and three.
I mean, Will Rodgers thirteen touchdowns, two interceptions on the season.
Jonah Coleman six point nine yards of carry on ninety
nine carries this year. He's a good running back. He's
(55:35):
I think he's gonna end up in the NFL at
some point. I think maybe he needs another year, but
I do think he's an NFL level running back. This
receiving group, Giles Jackson, Denzel Boston leading the way. Giles Jackson,
of course came over from Michigan. I think Giles Jackson
was on the twenty twenty team, the Michigan team that
came to Bloomington and lost, but now is really developed
(56:01):
into a strong receiving option for this Washington team. So
I do think, as you pointed out, that Indiana's primary
advantage in this game is going to be running the ball.
Speaker 2 (56:13):
Right.
Speaker 1 (56:13):
I think this is one of those situations, right, Why
did Iowa win forty to sixteen. Iowa won because they
do Iowa stuff. They kind of eliminated Washington's will. They
kind of removed it, right, They kind of removed their
desire to play as that game went on. But it's
going to be tougher for Indiana. Washington's coming off of buye.
Indiana is coming off this real emotional high from this
(56:37):
win over Nebraska. And I think kurtzyg ned even knows
like things are going to be a little bumpier. He's
talked all season. Indiana is going to meet some adversity.
Indiana is going to meet some difficulty. Indiana is going
to trail at some point. It's just going to happen,
and I think this is the game where that happens.
But I also think Indiana has enough weaponry to overcome
those things, especially if Indiana commits to running the ball
(57:00):
using that miss this mix up of Tyson Law and
Justice Ellison. Of course, Kaelon Black is nice when he
comes into the game. Elijah Green, maybe you can throw
Miles Price a running play here and there, just you
know they've lined him up in the backfield a couple
of times. I'm sure Washington's noticed that as they look
at the game tape. But it should be another game
(57:20):
where Indiana's offensive line wins the job, wins the game
as far as running the ball, and Indiana's defensive line
wins the game from a pass rush standpoint, I think
Washington's weakest area on the field. Weakest areas are their
run defense and their offensive line, their offensive tackles. I
think Will Rodgers has been under a lot of pressure
(57:42):
this season. I'm looking forward to seeing mkil Kamara and
Linell Carr do some serious damage from the outside. And
of course Indiana's brought some blitzes this year and they've
really paid off. So I'm looking forward to seeing Indiana
do that sort of thing as far as pressuring Bill
Rodgers making his life different. But again, the way this
(58:02):
is different is Washington's comfortable from playing fourteen down, twenty
one down, twenty eight down, So you can't really let
up at all. You have to keep peak, pin your
ears back and sort of take them out of the
game like Iowa did just before Washington's bye week. So
that'll be a good good chance for Indiana. Of course
Washington coming off of bye but Washington is also having
(58:24):
to travel Pacific time to Eastern time for a noon
kickoff Eastern, so game day in the house. Hopefully that
those are all things that help Indiana here going forward. Matt,
Indiana is a seven point favorite over under is at
fifty three, So if you do the math, that's a
thirty to twenty three Indiana win at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
(58:46):
Who do you think wins this game? And by how much.
Speaker 2 (58:51):
I've said it before, I used to winning this game.
I expect them to win. And the fact for the memes,
fifty six to seven, that's the score last night, your
favorite by seven at all? Why does that change this time?
Speaker 1 (59:04):
Indiana was favored by three on the road against U C.
L A and one forty two to six seven ten
whatever that was thirteen Yeah, good memory, ressed. I think
it's gonna be a little tougher, I just can. I
(59:27):
think it's gonna be a little tougher. I think, uh,
Indiana's gonna run the ball. I think Washington's gonna hit
Indiana with some pass plays. I think Tavian Jackson is
gonna have to mix in some some productive throws to
help Indiana stay in front. I think Indiana is gonna win,
but I think it's gonna be a two score day.
(59:52):
We'll say two, all right, So I think, I all so, I.
Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
Do think it's I'm getting mad.
Speaker 1 (01:00:02):
I know, I know, I know by two scorers. Yeah yeah,
I know, I know which covers. I do think it's
gonna be lower scoring. So I'm gonna say, like twenty
seven fourteen, Indiana takes care of business on Saturday. I
think I think I think Sinnetti's going to try to
slow the game down just a little bit. Like Indiana
(01:00:23):
has used tempo quite a bit here, and he's gonna
slow the game down. Make sure you know Indiana connects
the dots on the football field and does some good things. Washington.
Washington's a good football team, folks, but I think Indiana's better.
So there you go. That's how Matt and I see
this Washington Indiana game going. Indiana Washington is one of
(01:00:47):
eight big ten games this weekend. The fun starts with
Rutgers USC on Friday.
Speaker 2 (01:00:55):
Before Rutgers is winning that football game before.
Speaker 1 (01:00:59):
Seven Big Ten matchups on Saturday. All four Tier one
teams in the Big Ten. That's right, all four Tier
one teams are in action on Saturday. So looking forward
to see how looking forward to seeing how the Big
Ten race develops on Saturday. We like to do some
(01:01:20):
pics of the week. Matt and I watch more college
football than anyone you will listen to this week or
watch this week on TV. So Matt, as you look
at the Big Ten slate this weekend, eight games to
pick from any point, spreads over unders, upset specials that
send out to you, it sounds like you like Rutgers
on Friday. Here you go.
Speaker 2 (01:01:37):
There's four upsets this weekend. Four, I'm giving you four.
Four are happening. Are you ready? Rutcus is beating USC
on Friday. Saturday at three point thirty, Northwestern is beating Iowa,
Maryland is beating Minnesota on Saturday. You're doing and Michigan
State is beating Michigan on Saturday. There is going to
(01:01:57):
be four upsets against the spread and including two against
two score spreads give me that.
Speaker 1 (01:02:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:02:06):
Also sneaky game Penn State at Wisconsin. Watch out for
the nitty lyons. James Franklin likes to choke at the
most inopportunity times. I wouldn't put money on it, but
I wouldn't be surprised. You also see that happen on
Saturday night.
Speaker 1 (01:02:20):
That's funny because I actually look at it the other way.
For that game, I actually think Penn State's gonna kind
of dust them up. I think they're gonna just smoke them.
Speaker 2 (01:02:27):
Yeah, but you you gotta understand, like Goat Franklin is
going to do Goat Franklin things and you know, go
but he just doesn't have that clutch factor. He just
you know.
Speaker 1 (01:02:41):
I look USC game, though, I thought it was going
to be the thing. I love the USC game. I
understand the matchup wasn't great, but USC figured that out
first Like USC, I thought Penn State was going to
smack USC. But of course it was like if USC
could figure out the matchups how to avoid this Penn
State trench advantage, then USC could have a chance. And
(01:03:03):
USC looked like they weren't gonna have a chance. And
then Drew Aller came from behind with Tyler Warren. I
was like, oh, I didn't see that game playing out
that way, And I feel like Wisconsin might be a
little bit inflated right now. It's because like they had
a they were I think they overachieved against Rutgers and
against Northwestern. So I'm gonna take Penn State to cover
(01:03:25):
that six and a half. Of course, I like Indiana
to cover against Washington. Try to get a six and
a half if you can before that thing goes to seven,
because I do think it's headed in that direction. I'm
also gonna take Nebraska to cover twenty five and a half.
I think the Nebraska team is good. I'm not gonna
go so far as to say they're gonna upset Ohio State,
but like I wouldn't be surprised if Nebraska at a
(01:03:46):
halftime lead, the second half lead. I think Nebraska's good,
and I think I get up off the mat, and
I think Matt Rules good coach. I think Dylan Ryle
is a good quarterback. I think Nebraska's is good defense,
and I think they're gonna sort of get out off
the mat against Ohio State Saturday. I'm I think Ohio
State's great. I think they're very very very very great.
(01:04:08):
All right, I think they're flawed. So I'm looking forward
to seeing this Nebraska game on Saturday. I think Nebraska's
gonna go there. They're gonna make life annoying for Ohio State.
And again I think Ohio State's gonna win. But you know,
that's a game where I'm sitting here and saying, you
know what could could Nebraska to go in there, ruffle
(01:04:29):
some feathers, see how things go. I'm gonna take under
forty and a half in Michigan State Michigan, Like why,
I mean Michigan. In Michigan State, Michigan might score a
little bit. I don't think they're gonna score forty one
points combined.
Speaker 2 (01:04:48):
So do you think between Northwestern Iowa and Michigan Michigan State,
do those two games combined score more than three points?
That's my question to you. I I don't think they do.
Speaker 1 (01:05:06):
There's a like Iowa's often low.
Speaker 2 (01:05:09):
KI is like not depressing, Okay, nave Cade Maxim I
are starting at TV.
Speaker 1 (01:05:17):
I know I love Caleb Johnson.
Speaker 2 (01:05:20):
Though Caleb Johnson, Caleb Johnson is great, but like the
Northwestern team showed the ability to be a little frisky
on defense that are gonna be They're gonna be frisky frisky.
Speaker 1 (01:05:31):
That Iowa Michigan State game on Saturday night is the
result that nobody's talking about. That was wild for Michigan
State as an underdog to dominate that game from start
to finish. I was very, very very surprised. And Charles is.
Speaker 2 (01:05:50):
Gonna be good. He's gonna be real, real good.
Speaker 1 (01:05:55):
Deal with him in a couple of weeks. Upset wise,
it's kind of tough. If you ask me, I like
the ones that you took. I'm just gonna tail your
your call. On Maryland. I think Maryland goes to Minnesota
and wins, just straight up. I think Minnesota is a
little so because that US sequin and USC ain't ain't good,
(01:06:17):
and I think that should really hurt LSU's college football
playoff resume, but it's not going to because it's LSU.
Speaker 2 (01:06:22):
But whatever, Maryland was also Week one, or it was
even week zero, Week one, I feel like.
Speaker 1 (01:06:31):
You can say that. But Indiana, Indiana got dinged in
twenty twenty for Penn State not being as good as
they were advertised in the Week one, So what's the difference.
I mean, besides Penn State not being as bad as
the c USC team or being worse of the USC team.
Speaker 2 (01:06:44):
Did that Penn State team was good but also really
really bad. And also we did lose two games that
year and so far use only one one know they
will get they will get correctly dinged when they started
losing more games, which I think will I'll.
Speaker 1 (01:06:58):
Take your word for it. I'll take your word for it.
I do think Maryland's gonna win. Otherwise, Yeah, I mean
I liked your your upset calls. I don't know Rutgers.
I think l A baby shut out. Hey, shout out
to u c l A. All right, for everyone that
(01:07:20):
wants to Indiana, don't play anybody.
Speaker 2 (01:07:22):
No.
Speaker 1 (01:07:22):
U c l A has been competitive against LSU, U
c l A has been competitive against Penn State, and
U c l A went to Rutgers and won as underdogs.
So y'all can shove it. If U c l A
wins another game this year, I'm gonna be so uncontrollably
just just jerk your meatball meatball mode as far as
(01:07:47):
you see. If if U c l A goes to
Nebraska and wins, I'm gonna be so over the top,
like I think I think indiana schedule is so underrated,
especially when you come with the fact that every Big
Ten team Indiana has faced through the first five Big
Ten games is coming off of bye or in Maryland's case,
they're coming off of playing Villanova, so everyone can shut
(01:08:08):
which is basically a bye. Everyone can shut up about
Indiana's easy schedule, so you can shove it. As we
wrap up here on this Monday, matt any final thoughts here.
Indiana seven and oh number thirteen in the country CFP
is more likely than not. How is life life?
Speaker 2 (01:08:28):
Life's good man? I uh, I was debating looking up
how much playoff tickets would.
Speaker 1 (01:08:35):
Be the other night.
Speaker 2 (01:08:37):
But I'm going to do everyone a favor. And since
I've been in China we are seven and oh, I
feel like I shouldn't mess with the football gods. So
I will stay here, begrudgingly and watch however many games
we play this year from China. This is my sacrifice.
I hope you guys all respect it and acknowledge it
(01:09:00):
and bring little pictures of me places when you guys
go places and have fun things so I could feel them.
I have to say it could be a seventeen game season, right,
I will watch all seventeen games from the from the
far East.
Speaker 1 (01:09:15):
It's only a matter of time before. It's only a
matter of time before they moved play the playoff to
China or like another country. Right, we got to expand
college football. Let's go, Let's play a game in Shanghai,
Let's play a game in the UK. Let's play a
playoff game in Ireland or Mexico or South America.
Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
It's only a matter of you're gonna get this podcast canceled, canceled.
Speaker 1 (01:09:39):
That's right, right, Georgia, Georgia versus Bama in Australia in Sydney.
Speaker 2 (01:09:45):
But we did. I don't know however long you've been
on this podcast, fork about an hour of football talk,
hour and a half football talk. I would be remissed
if we didn't mention who's your hysteria? Ever so slightly.
Basketball season is about two weeks away. The boys look good.
Speaker 1 (01:10:05):
I look good. Number seventeen I think I'm frying.
Speaker 2 (01:10:10):
And number seventeen in the polls. I mean, if you
guys haven't hopped in the miles Rice hype train yet, uh,
you should get on before that takes off at the
station and leaves you best best QB. Holy crap, He's
the best point guard that's played for IU since Jogiy Farrell. Uh.
And I'm not counting Jalen the true point guard because
(01:10:32):
that's not what he was brought into play. So uh,
as far as the true point guard goes, he's the
best one since Yogi. Which it's wild to think that
he was playing basketball. Well.
Speaker 1 (01:10:46):
Again, Ago considered Jalen a.
Speaker 2 (01:10:48):
Point That's what I'm saying. I'm not considering him a
point guard because he wasn't brought into play point guard.
He was brought in play like as an off off
ball row, as a two guard. So as as the
main focal point guard in the offense, the guy that
brought in to start the season, he's the best one
that we've had since Yogi. And I don't think it's
(01:11:10):
going to be quite close. When the game start, I
thought landed haattant, Yeah, I kind of looked decent. He's
a guy that I was not very high on going
into this year. I thought he wouldn't play that many minutes.
I still don't think he's going to play many minutes,
but he might be able to contribute some meaningful ones
(01:11:36):
For some reason, Yeah, baller goes down or renews not
really taking the five role that well or what's whatnot
the offense that they were running out there. I know
it's a scrimmage, so it's an inner squad scrimmage, so
it's basically like no play practice. But some of the
(01:11:57):
sets they ran to get some open threes were quite so.
If you haven't checked out Tony and Rona on Twitter,
go check out his He has a little short Uh
what's the what's the one of the clips kind of
what I'm looking for it? Yeah, but it's a thread,
that's what he has. A He has a thread of
(01:12:19):
thread of clips on on Twitter. Go go to his
Uh yes, I know internet, Uh go check out his
Twitter and uh and go check those out. He has
a pretty good breakdown of some of the stuff from
from Usurist area. But yeah, I'm excited for basketball season, but.
Speaker 1 (01:12:40):
Women's preseason top twenty five, I just I'm I'll go
there first. Like Shaye Cheskey, that's how you pronounce your
last name and transfer from Penn State. She's going to
be absolutely lethal this year for this Indiana team. It's
gonna be fun seeing Sydney Parish yard in Garrizona, Shaye
Cheskey on the court. Indiana might just three point their
(01:13:01):
way to twenty five wins this season. And it's gonna
be it's gonna be a little different, right, we've seen
for the for the last few years, right McKenzie helps
through the post, Chloe Moore McNeil sort of finding those gaps.
Now it's gonna be CMM on the court with Parish
Garzone and Shaye Chusky. And you might see this Indiana
(01:13:21):
team either go you know, twenty of twenty eight from
three and beat top ranked teams or have a tough
day at the office. But you know, it's gonna be
one of those teams I think for a three point fans.
Three for those for those of you when there are
a lot of you the love three pointers with Indiana basketball,
the women's team is going to be outstanding to watch
(01:13:42):
as far as that's concerned. And then I just before
I forget, like Indiana's receiving court, right, elijahs are at
Miles Cross, Miles Price, Omark Cooper so good, not just
in the way they catch the ball and do damage
on the field, but like they're they're little, they're little
specifics that they do so well, like with route run,
with blocking down field to really spring explosive place. Kurtzignetti
(01:14:03):
has mentioned to Jake bud the former Michigan tight end
now big ten to network analysts, has called it out
a lot of guys who know football, who know the
value of these little details, right, instead of a ten
yard penalty, it's a ten yard touchdown, instead of a
fifteen yard offensive pass interference. It's an explosive play down
the field because you're not blocking too far down the
(01:14:24):
field or the little timing things are working out perfectly.
Omar Cooper again so good at that type of stuff.
Miles Price, Miles Cross lining up in the backfield, getting
those first downs, moving the chains. And elijahster Ats an
NFL receiver. I don't know what people are thinking. I
don't know. Apparently there's not that much drumming up interest
for him as far as the NFL is concerned. He's
an NFL receiver. He should be taken in the draft.
(01:14:46):
He's going to start at some point in the NFL.
I don't know for which team or whatever, but he
is absolutely amazing.
Speaker 2 (01:14:52):
I believe he has two years all this year and
another year of eligibility left. So you know, if the
NFL does have wont them, I'll take him breast exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:15:00):
He's so much better than so many receivers that are
playing right now in the NFL today, right now, and
so like he's he's, he's he's going to be amazing
in the next level. He threw up the fists and
blades celebration after his touchdown, and oh, I know.
Speaker 2 (01:15:15):
I got a little I got a little uh, I
got a little excited about that.
Speaker 1 (01:15:20):
Yeah. Look, man, look, you know, I don't know what
exactly qualifies for the qualifies you for the IU Hall
of Fame. But if he puts up another you know, thousand,
another another eight hundred yards this season and leads Indiana
to some CFP wins, I think one one great year
in Bloomington might get you win.
Speaker 2 (01:15:39):
As far as my concern, we make the playoffs, the.
Speaker 1 (01:15:44):
Whole team, but the whole team and the i U.
Speaker 2 (01:15:48):
Get the most statues put to take them and me
and her front of the stadium. It's four hot metal
over them to give them a statue they're living forever.
Speaker 1 (01:16:02):
