Speaker 1 (00:00):
So welcome back to the Intermi Wrestling Podcast. It is
the four amazing gentlemen, the four best friends that we've
ever did see. Week three Gentlemen, Week three, and first,
a little bit of a little bit of housekeeping, a
little bit of welcome backs. Welcome back to Sammy Sasso.
That was a pretty awesome atmosphere to see him come back.
(00:21):
Welcome back to Gable. You know, we talked about that
last week, but he had his press conference and he's
even I in twenty twenty eight, so maybe the Olympics
are maybe he's sticking around in the wrestling world for
a little bit. And then welcome back to Shane van Ness.
We'll jump to the All Star Classic. But hell of
a way to really announce that you're back in the
(00:42):
lineup and that you're fully healthy. Then with a dominant
win at the All Star Classic in front of your home.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Crowd, it was less welcome for Ty Waters.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Yeah, he was welcome.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
That is welcomed now.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Yeah, I mean, let's let's start with that one, honestly,
because it was I mean, for me, it was the
performance of the entire All Star Classic, and not just
because it was the biggest margin, but because it was
his first match in a year, right, and he looked phenomenal,
(01:17):
But on Ty water side, he just looked just like
really out of sync. And like, I mean, I know
that his his style isn't very orthodox, right, Like he
feels his way through a lot of these positions. He
feels more comfortable and awkward positions where other guys don't
feel as comfortable. But like it was, it was very weird.
(01:40):
He just seemed like he was at a position like
his game plan, the unorthodox style isn't going to work
on a guy like Shane van Ness, and that really
really showed. But man, like I said, welcome back, Shanevanness
is a hell of a way to come back.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
I mean, like you said with water As he's comfortable
in some of these positions where the guys are typically uncomfortable.
But like, yeah, van Ness just looked like he was
never out of position. His hips were always where he
wanted him to be. He was in control of every
single tie up and so immediately Waters was just kind
of like searching for something. And as the match went on,
(02:16):
he was like quicksand you know, he started to struggle
a little bit, and then he started to struggle a
little bit more, and before he knew it, he was
deeper and deeper and deeper into it, and then it
was fighting at Yeah. So I mean that was so
impressive by Shane van Ness. And you know, I've said
here and I've said on Blood Round, I've said a
variety of different places, like you know, I'm gonna wait
(02:38):
till I see what he's gonna do before I'm gonna
start being like, Okay, this guy is a contender. No,
he's absolutely a contender. He's immediately in the mix and
looked better than I could have ever guessed.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
Agreed.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Yeah, I mean, like Waters even just like fell off
the top at one point and has pounced on him
and threw him to his back right like it was
just super awkward. And like I said, even though Waters
is an awkward kind of a wrestler, a little different style,
that was just like not even in the.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
Same realm of what we're used to seeing. So crazy match.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
But I am putting that contender stamp right back on
van Ness. You know, you you, I mean, you probably
should have known that he was going to come back
and look the part like he did before, but you
still have to kind of feel it out right. Some
guys come back tentative after an injury. Some guys you know,
have to get their their their mind and their body
(03:33):
sync back up. And for that to be his first
match back in a year, and he's wrestling a guy
that has, you know, just came back from being an
All American a year before. Man, you have to give
them that stamp of approval.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Well, and that was the wild thing is like, I
don't I remember his you know, last full year of competition,
and I don't remember him looking this good, you know,
And I remember he wrestled well our Classic last year and.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
He almost turned Yanni though that that year.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Yeah that's right, Yeah, yeah he almost did, but he didn't, right.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
I mean, some some will say he had some swipes
that should have that should have come.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
A lot of guys almost beat Yanni that didn't, you know.
So but no, I mean, like me, yeah, but uh
no point being like, I don't mean this is a
knockt at Shane van Ness. I mean this more as
like a what he showed the other day was so
much further than I remembered. And maybe I'm wrong. I'll
accept that too. It wouldn't be the first time so
(04:35):
but no, he looked awesome.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
It just looked like he didn't really miss time with
that injury, like you just took and red your ear
was training full and then boom just got so much better,
Like did you take time off the mat?
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Like what the heck did you do for rehab?
Speaker 5 (04:48):
It's just crazy how much he's jump levels while being injured.
I don't know how these Penn State guys do it. Man,
it's crazy.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Yeah, I mean both him and Carter, no braces, no anything.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
And that's the other match I want to talk about
where Carter looked at every bit of his new weight
class and he controlled the mat through underhook for pushing
the pace. Parker looked tired all of what it is.
He did not look like Parker guys, and and he
got in on a really tight shot and just couldn't finish.
(05:25):
And I mean, obviously Saraci is very strong. You can
you can see it. You can see it in how
he wrestles guys. You know he's not just you know,
a physical looking anomaly. You can see how he controls matches.
And his control of an underhook was just crazy, and
he was pushing them all over the mat. He was
taking ground, he was holding center. That was a that
(05:48):
was a serious match. Even though it went to overtime,
it was controlled by by Carter Saracchi the entire time.
What do you guys make of it?
Speaker 3 (06:00):
I didn't feel like it was the Parker that we
we have seen before.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
Like you said, I don't know if he was trying
to pace himself.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
I don't know if he you know what it was,
because it seemed like he was going for, you know,
really short sprints rather than kind of pushing the pace
as he generally does the whole match.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
And I think I don't know.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
If that was a strategy or or or what it was,
but it wasn't working for him, and it didn't seem
he just kind of seemed out of sorts. And that
really deep shot that he got in on, you know,
normally that's when I would expect him to finish. Now,
clearly finishing on Strashi's is a whole separate issue, but
that was a damn good shot and he was in
deep and didn't have any chance of finishing it. Agreed, Yeah,
(06:41):
that's definitely a rematch to come March.
Speaker 5 (06:43):
I'm excited for because as kind of what Robbie said,
that's probably not the best Parker keck Eisen we're going
to see.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
Carter will probably get better.
Speaker 5 (06:51):
Too, obviously, right, So it's just it'll be interesting to
see where those two land potentially ensay finals match. But
one thing I do want to point out is good
Carter Sharaci with his tweet given flow props about hey,
they put on a good show where all these other
number one.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Guys at what are you guys hiding for?
Speaker 5 (07:07):
Essentially, I thought that was a you know, a little
you know, he likes to be the villain.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
Maybe that's less villain.
Speaker 5 (07:13):
Than usual, but I thought that was cool for him
to get float props and call these other guys out, like, hey,
what are you guys protecting?
Speaker 3 (07:19):
Come wrestle. I thought that was fun.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
He even you know, it was even to the point
where I felt like there was maybe a little jab
in there for the guys that did wrestle in the
event and didn't just let it all hang out. The
match doesn't really count, you know what I mean, Like
it it counts, but it doesn't count. So like go wrestle, guys,
(07:43):
like go go feel this out because let's let's think
about it, right, Like we're probably going to see Bird
and Bailey wrestle again. We're probably gonna see Parker and
Carter wrestle again. We're most likely going to see another
Mendez Bartlett match. These matches are going to happen. I
mean some of them happened in the past, right, like
(08:04):
we're going to see them again. At what point can
you wrestle the other guy who is top five, top
ten in your weight class and there's zero consequence outside
of us saying, hey, remember when they wrestled during the
All Star Classic and it went this way otherwise? I mean,
I don't know if anyone and I didn't. I don't
(08:27):
know if Earl even really used it at all in
his rankings or a Flow used it in theirs.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
But like, outside of.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
That, no, they can't use that against you at the
NCAA tournament. They can't use that against you at any
point during the year. The only people that possibly can
are the rankers if they choose to do that, and
that's their choice.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
So like, why not go out and just let it fly?
Speaker 1 (08:52):
Like there is literally no circumstance to you winning and
losing this match outside of getting a feel for a
guy that you're most likely probably over a seventy five
percent chance you're going to see again.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Now, I don't disagree with that. I'm certainly on the
page of let it fly. But does that come from
a different position when you're talking about a what seventh
year senior now who has multiple national championships. That's a
little different to come at it from that position of,
you know, you don't have anything to lose, rather than
somebody who's who's still working their way up and is
just getting into that kind of top tier like a Bailey,
(09:29):
like a waters Right, So maybe it's it's a different
position to come at it from if you're one of
those guys. And I don't know if that makes sense
what I'm trying to say. It makes sense in my
head that that helps.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
No. I mean, I think what you're starting to say
is like, you know, when you're going for your fifth
NCAA title, it's real easy to point fingers and be like,
come on, you know ussus, like get out.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Here and compete your one time All American scrubs.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
Yeah, come on, get out here. You know, as if
there was a ton of guys turning down invitations. By
the way too, I mean, I don't know what that
looked like, but you know, I was gonna flip it
a little bit though too. It was funny because like
my son came in, you know, when it was getting going,
and I was like, Hey, this is the NWCA All
Star Classic, Like, this is some of the best guys
(10:17):
at each weight battling it out. Sometimes it's number one
verse number two. Other times it's you know, guys who
are on the podium or guys who are coming back.
But it's a pretty cool event. And he was like, oh,
so is this like, you know, like the NBA All
Star Game or like the Pro Bowl or like they're
not really trying And I was like, no, it's the
opposite of that completely. Guys are trying to beat the
(10:38):
other guy. Like technically it like doesn't matter, but it
absolutely matters, Like nobody puts their shoes on and shows
up not trying to absolutely destroy the other guy. So
he was like, oh cool, like really good guys actually
trying to beat each other in an exhibition. I'm in.
So credit to everybody who did show up and compete,
because like it was a good show. It was awesome.
(11:00):
Every one of these matches was had something you could
take away from it, even the ones that were blowouts,
you were like, holy smokes, I didn't expect that like that,
you know.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
And the Mendez Barlet match looked exactly like we expected
it too, like exactly like every other match has.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Yeah, but not in a bad way, you know.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
No, No, it's a very entertaining, great match kind of way.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
Yeah, really good.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
I still contend that if this were still a preseason event,
I would like to see how much different it's treated
in it, if people do open up more when it's
actually a preseason event rather than already being three weeks
into the season. I don't know if it would make
any difference, but I always liked that as the kickoff.
So yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
The only guys that it was a preseason event for
was Penn State, right, like they hadn't had any matches
until that.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
Yeah, But like overall, like.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
I said, I loved it, you know, I I honestly
forgot that it was Lucas Bird was taking Frost place.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
But like that match I was.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
I'm gonna say I was disappointed in it, honestly, and
because we know what kind of offense those guys bring,
and it was not shown whatsoever and.
Speaker 4 (12:18):
For what a month now.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
I've been the biggest Lucas Berg fan around, right, I'm
you know, he's He's my Sergio Lemley apparently this year.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
So oh, do we all get to pick one? You you've,
You've We'll get to you. We'll get to you.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Crum. You already picked him, all right?
Speaker 4 (12:39):
You definitely you think you loudly picked him already, you know.
Speaker 6 (12:45):
Like I I think I think play it was it
was a it was a just not a good match
in my like I it was kind of a head
scratcher to see Bailey take neutral instead of taking bottom.
Speaker 4 (13:04):
But I think it.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Does give props to the fact that Lucas Bird is
pretty damn good on top. We saw him, you know,
put a really good ride on the week previous when
he wanted Journeyman right in the finals, So it does
give credence to that. But again, there's there's no consequences
to feeling it out, and let's be honest, if you're
(13:28):
going to get a chance to feel out a certain position.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
You should probably do it now.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
The last the last time you want to do it,
first time you want to do this is at the
NCAA tournament. That's the last time that you. You do
not want that to happen, right, So go down, feel
what it is, see what he's got on top, and
you know, gain your escape. But like, I just felt
like neither guy was too offensive, and obviously it showed
(13:55):
in the score. And I shouldn't say it was a
bad match, honestly, I think it was a good match
of two guys that are very evenly matched, but I,
you know, for knowing how well they can score, I
would have liked to see more offense out of the
both of them. So that was kind of my gripe,
(14:15):
especially for guys who are you know, two of my
favorites in in you know, in any weight class going
into this year, those guys are two of my favorites,
and I've been really excited to see them, see them,
you know, face each other, and it was just like, okay,
let's get some offense going here, Let's let's have something.
Spend a lot of time in front headlock, and you know,
(14:37):
Bird is obviously very good at at defending there and
tying guys up and keeping his legs back, and it showed.
But also, you know, let's get to let's get to
a leg, let's get through one as as coach Goodell
would say, yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
I mean the choice to go neutrol. You know, I
think he just believed in his offense way more than
he believed in his ability to get out right, and
he was trying. He was trying to give you the offense.
You were looking for homes. He was trying, you know,
he chose to do that. It just didn't work. But
the main point there that I absolutely agree with is like,
(15:15):
you know, goes back to this. It's an exhibition.
Speaker 4 (15:17):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
See what it's like. You know, use this as a
learning experience. If you lose here, who cares? Right? He
lost anyway, So in retrospect easy to say, probably should
have done it, you know. But hopefully this, this public
service announcement can get to you know, next year's All
Star guys and they can choose bottom.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
It'd be nice.
Speaker 5 (15:41):
Yeah, yeah, I agree. It's like someone get a takedown.
It's an ultur match, you know, one nothing. It can
be exciting, but usually not. I agree with both of
you guys, But I want to talk about Gotty Allie
from Campbell looked really freaking good. If I could change
topics here on that I didn't expect, didn't expect him
to beat.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Film in the way he did. You know, he looked
really damn good.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
He did, He certainly did.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
I was.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
I was pleasantly surprised by by that match too. Was
that final score like seven to two seven three.
Speaker 4 (16:14):
Something like that? Eight three? You know, I I loved it.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
You know, I thought that he used his offense very well,
especially in that first takedown. You were like, oh yeah,
he has certainly continued to jump levels. So that was
an awesome That was another awesome match, And I'm glad that,
like we got our wish and that they did truly
build a card and instead of going in weight order.
(16:40):
So I was pretty happy to see that. But you know,
I obviously saw that after we recorded last week's show.
But that match was good. That match was very good
and and Goadali looked amazing and they'll have a you know,
we'll get to it, but it'll have a huge test,
probably the biggest test of his career ever this week.
Speaker 7 (17:01):
But that's again, yeah, yeah, that's a good way to
announce yourself as as a as a contender for sure,
beating a guy like Feldman who was that close to,
you know, inches away from beating the NCAA champion last year.
What did you guys make of the heavyweight bout?
Speaker 3 (17:22):
Might have been my favorite match. Honestly. It's been really
cool to see how Tay has has improved over the
years and how he continues to be, you know, add
to his arsenal get more and more offensive, and he
is one who didn't hold anything back and really did
open up. So it was really fun to watch, you know,
against somebody who he wasn't favored against. He just let
(17:44):
it fly and it was It was an entertaining match.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
Tay was awesome man. I was super pumped for him.
I picked Feldman. I picked Feldman before the year. Is
my bold prediction to win the NCAA title, you know,
my bold partiction, as it turned out, should have been Gable.
Stevenson is coming back, you know. But still that that,
you know, just goes to show how impressed I was
with Tay. I remember where I said it. It probably was here,
(18:13):
but I interviewed him at NCAA's a couple of different times.
Super awesome dude. Obviously from Michigan, and I always have
a spot for people from Michigan. So while I thought
Feldon was going to win, I'm I'm more than happy
to see taking it done.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
So it's because of you, Kevin, that I know how
to say his last name, because people were screwing it
up and you asked him how to say it. So
I was like, all right, let's commit that to memory.
It is now Goodali and not Anni Ali. So but
side note on on Tay Diesel as they call him,
do you think he truly forgot his singlet?
Speaker 4 (18:48):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (18:50):
Yeah, I couldn't forgot about that. Yeah that I mean, yeah,
it makes sense.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
And and why am the reason I'm asking? Yes, I
do think that he truly forgot his single? But did
he truly forget his single?
Speaker 2 (19:02):
It?
Speaker 1 (19:02):
Because right now Campbell isn't in the best standing with
the university, right Like, the university isn't really coming out
and saying they're saying, we support you, but we're going
to take something back from you right now. It kind
of gave me a little Stanford esque rebellion, not trying
(19:24):
to rep the school on the biggest stage kind of
a thing. And maybe that was just my own wishful thinking.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
Honestly, I think it was more of that. And Scotty
spoke to it pretty quickly to kind of put that down.
And I think the difference with that situation is you're
looking at a completely different size of a school and
impact that that would have, you know, nationally, it could
you know, taking away from the Stanford brand. Making a
statement that way made a lot of sense. But to
(19:52):
do it to a small school who you're trying to,
you know, work with to to remedy this issue, I
don't think it would bring the attention that they're looking for.
You know, Scotty, Scotty SEEDDI forgot it.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
I believe Scotty. So that's what I'm gonna do with
Oh yeah, I certainly think that he did.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
I just was, like I said, for my own brain,
I was hoping it was a calculated decision.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
I I it made me wish that they had all
stars singlets again, didn't they have those back in the day?
Speaker 4 (20:20):
Right?
Speaker 1 (20:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (20:21):
Yeah, and then you have a keepsake.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
Speaking of which, I do not like the Dake Taylor
comparisons with ke Kaizen and Sarachi.
Speaker 4 (20:34):
It is not even close on the spectrum. It's not.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
I mean, yes, it is awesome that you have a
four time NCAA champion wrestling a one time NCAA champion
and they're number one and number two.
Speaker 2 (20:51):
Basically the same number of titles though.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
Same number of titles, same number of titles.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Before from one guy.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
Yeah yeah, I mean for me, it just it ain't there.
It is not there.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
Like I don't even know why you would make that, Saint,
make that comparison, because it's not even it's not even close.
Speaker 8 (21:11):
And that series was kind of a league of its own,
and it really was, even though you can't even really
call it a rivalry, right, Like I mean, let's let's
be honest, Taylor never beat Dake, and it was it's
pretty reminiscent of.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
Taylor and Burrows. Burrows never never lost to Taylor, you
know what I mean. But everybody always said like that
rivalry was so big and it was obviously overtaken by
by Dake Burrows. But like to get back to the comparison,
I was just like, guys, I don't see it. I mean,
if if the only similarity in this entire thing, there's
(21:52):
two of them and it's one versus two, and there's
a Penn.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
State national champion at the weight under and it's moving.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
Out there's three, but like outside of that, like no,
there's no there's not any single sort of comparison in
this entire thing, so it just didn't. I just kind
of laughed at it when I saw it, So that
was that was pretty funny to me for people to
be like, you know, this is this the new Dake
(22:19):
Taylor and it's like, no, it would have to be
going on for more than one match. And I understand
they wrestled in Fargo and and KEKs and beat him
in Fargo years ago, beats the ratchin Fargo, but like, so, yeah,
apparently now it's one one.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
Also, Kekaison is clearly aging with his hairlinea reverse aging,
so there's that aspect as well. That's coat there is.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
There is no Benjamin Button factor, which is a big one.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
So yeah, but this reminds me of like when like
NBA comparisons for like the Draft combine and they're like,
I'm kind of like MJ, but also like Kobe a lot.
Like I'm like if both of those guys had a
baby and it was me.
Speaker 4 (23:06):
Those are great, none of the above, None of the above.
Speaker 1 (23:10):
No, I mean, the the All Star Classic was great,
the women were amazing. I was gonna give you props
on this one. Robbie the McBride.
Speaker 4 (23:18):
Systerm gnarly, ruthless, ruthless.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
And I was, you know, I I honestly tuned in
because I was like, Robbie said that these girls are
really great, and I've only seen them wrestle maybe a
handful of times, and I was like, you know what,
I'm I'm gonna make it a point to make sure
that I am watching these these two girls.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
Because I think I can't even remember.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
I think I saw them wrestle in other All Stars
or or something like that, or maybe maybe it was
the National Championship or something like that. I know, I
know they've won titles, but I can't even really, to
be honest, can't remember. And that's a pretty shitty of
me to even say that. But I was pleasantly surprised
(24:07):
by how they competed and how they wrestled, and because
they are seriously tough. But the women put it out there,
the women, they seriously did they They look they look great,
They had really great matches. But I would love for
every single one of these people to get rid of
the head gear. Can we get rid of headgear? Honestly,
(24:28):
but it protects.
Speaker 3 (24:29):
The ears and keeps them from all getting Cauliflowerer right.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
The majority of Cauliflowerer happens in practice, guys, Like, let's
be honest, we all know it. Majority of caller happens
in practice. And everybody's wrestling freestyle anyway where there is
no head gear.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
So yeah, well it's funny. I was talking to a
buddy of mine that I still wrestle with every once
in a while. He's like, I have to get a
head gear this year because every time I wrestle you
and he's talking to me, he's like, you wear your
head gear. Your head gear gives me califar here, Like, oh,
I guess I'm the problem with fire.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
Awesome.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
But before we moved too much further, one thing I
wanted to say about the McBride's. That's the sisters of
Muhammed McBride, right, Yeah, his triceps were so big it
was like a baby's head was trapped in his arm.
It was insane. Anyway, that was the one comment I
wanted to make. There the one ninety seven Little and
(25:32):
Bronagle match that needs to get a shout out because
despite it being two to one, like those guys were
slip sliding around the match, falling off a single legs,
just hitting each other in the head.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
It was I was kind of frustrated by that match too,
because Little was the more offensive guy.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
He was. He was firing off shots he couldn't finish.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
You know, props the Ronigal on his defense, but man,
it was just like the guy that is wrestling better
could end up losing this match right now. And the
guy that was wrestling better was Little. He was he
was attacking more, he was taking more ground. A lot
of the times when they were going out of bounce
it was because of his action. So but that match
(26:16):
was good. It certainly was a really good match. Any
other thoughts on All Star Classic before we moved to
the dual mets that happened nothing? So yeah, let's roll
and let's let's let's start in the A C C
(26:37):
and and see what what Robbie's got? What uh what
stuck out to you last week in the ACC.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
That's a pretty solid weekend even and even Duke got
their first win.
Speaker 4 (26:51):
They look good. At the upper weights.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
Connor Barkett, Aiden Mollis, and Bennie Lee were all two
and o on the weekend, so it's nice to see
them have a little bit of success clearly. The big
duel was in Blacksburg on Friday night with Maszoo coming
in and the Hokies really controlled it from the opening whistle.
I think the score was closer than the actual duel felt,
(27:15):
and you know, super impressed with with everybody up and
down the lineup. Ben Tresca got a close win. McGonagall
got a big win over in a pretty scrappy match
with Kaid Moore. Latona knocked off Edmund. That was a
really fun match. Henson handled Geoffrey.
Speaker 4 (27:32):
It was really cool.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Geoffrey's brothers, who are twins, Michael and Jack, are both
at u v A and they came to watch. It
was kind of cool to see them in the tunnel
watching their brother So that was kind of cool.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
But they just looked great. I mean, Andy Smith won
a good match. You kind of left Saint Clair back
in the match.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
Pippolito's still undefeated, got got bonus points. Molan still undefeated,
looked really good against so PJ. Stewart was kind of
the thing that stood out. It was his first match
of the year and he lost to Colton Hawks. Just
didn't look himself, honestly, he didn't he wasn't super aggressive,
wasn't very offensive, and and didn't wrestle the way we
(28:15):
normally see him wrestle. So I'm interested to see how
he responds to that and bounces back. They got another
big tool this week on Friday against Rutgers, so it'll
be a big chance for him with Salvano, so be
a tough test.
Speaker 4 (28:32):
Yeah, Rutgers had n C State and NC State took
him to the woodshed. Yeah, they certainly did.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
My question is one five for NC State. Robinson's still
looking good. I mean, it was an injury default against
Ian Peterson.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
They hit heads and they just he was up like
eleven to four at the point.
Speaker 1 (28:55):
Yeah, he was up big at that point. So like
even though that happened, he was cruising. What do you
make of that is is they obviously have some things
to figure out at one point five. It's a good
problem to have, But with a guy that is just
like killing people, beating the hell out of dude.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
He's he's looked amazing all year. I mean, he was
eleven and two last year in his right your year,
he's tend to not to start the year. This year,
he's been, you know, pretty untouchable. He's been super offensive.
The lowest point totally has uh was against Rivera from
Princeton it was nine oh. Other than that, he scored
double digits in every single match, So he's he's putting
(29:37):
it on people, and you know, he's he's going out
there and making a statement. Camacho had a pretty rough
weekend last weekend, and I mean it's hard to say,
you know why you would put Camacho over him right now,
because he hasn't done anything wrong. He's done nothing but
just beat the hell out of people all year, and
that's kind of what you want. And Camacho lost a
(29:59):
couple of big matches and not a whole lot you
can say about that until he earns the spot back.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
Yeah, I mean, especially in a weight class that is
usually well, I shouldn't say usually. Last year it was
wildly inconsistent.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
The funny thing. And I found it really funny because.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
I was watching All Star Classic and they had said
something about how one twenty five was such a such
a crazy wait and so inconsistent and is that and whatever,
and I'm like, I think we had one year of inconsistency,
and it was and it was the first year without
Spencer League, like even even when Spencer was there. Yeah,
(30:36):
he lost some matches. I mean we've seen him lose
some matches, but like the end of the year came
around usually the Spencer show outside of one year, well
you know, so like even that other year too, that
was in the middle of it. It was like, who's
gonna take second to Siriano exactly knew what was happening,
(30:56):
So let's stop saying that that one twenty five is
a wildly incan consistent. Wait, he had wildly inconsistent for
one year.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
And it was a show last year and that was it. Yeah,
that was it.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
So like I mean, yes, there there's going to be
some cannibalization throughout. That's gonna happen. Guys are gonna beat guys,
But it was no more. I think the only inconsistency
that we saw was truly at the top, where we
were like, the hell is going to be number one
this week?
Speaker 2 (31:27):
Right?
Speaker 4 (31:28):
The number one guy keeps losing every week? So that
was the wild wild West.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
But like it was one year, guys, Like doesn't I hated,
Like I hate that people are saying that, like, oh
when twenty five is so crazy, so wild, It's like
it was one year that was it, and what we're
seeing this year is that that consistency is back, honestly.
(31:54):
And I mean, obviously we're still we're going into what
week four, so we're we're a month about a month
into the season, but like the guys that are winning
or continuing to win, they're not getting knocked off, Robinson
being one of those guys who has probably been the
most consistent. So that was just one of the things
(32:18):
that just like kind of caught me as I was like,
you know, I walked away from the computer and you know,
at the end of the Volk match and they were
talking about how inconsistent it was, and I was like,
it just made me think and.
Speaker 4 (32:32):
I was like, no, I don't I think we're okay
A one twenty five.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
Yeah, And as far as NC State goes, excuse me,
it may work out better for them to not have
Kmata there and you know, potentially have the flexibility to
push him up to thirty three because that's been their
most inconsistent wait so far, and they've tried different starters
there and haven't had a whole lot of success, So
(33:01):
you know, that's an option that's on the table. I
don't know if they'll go that direction, but you know,
if you can get both of them in the lineup,
then why not.
Speaker 4 (33:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (33:08):
Who knews a grown ass man making one twenty five
isn't the easiest.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
I just like the fifth breed, So there you go.
I like both their names. Jacob Camacho and Vincent Robinson
are badass names. You like make up those names if
you're trying to create an alter ego to go to
the bar with.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
Yeah, just other than like Ed Scott, that's kind of
the most plain name. But they have some good ones, Kai, Dragan, Coy,
even fish Back.
Speaker 4 (33:43):
That's a cool name.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
I think.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
Trumble Yeah, no speaking ill will of Isaac Trumble, who
picked up his second win over in All American this year,
granted not pretty, no style points uh, to win over Slavakuski,
the second All American knocked off after he beat Tay
last week two weeks ago, So you know, not the
(34:07):
prettiest entrance, but he's winning and that's that's all we're
looking for.
Speaker 4 (34:13):
Again, for the record, I do not hate Trumbull, not one.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
I heard him say that he doesn't like anybody from Nebraska.
It's unacceptable.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
I mean that just that just sucks for you. So
I mean, let's let's call what it is here. You're
trying to make me out to be a villain and
and put some bulletin board material on the walls of
NC State. I'm gonna have I'm gonna have Pat calling
me and and asking me what's up and why I'm
(34:43):
trashing his heavyweight when in fact I'm not trashing his heavyweight.
I'm trashing the president of his heavyweights fan club.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
We think you should ask him is how he can
get his beard to be so thick, because that's that's
the biggest question with Papa Eliza.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
I haven't I haven't seen him yet, and I'm kind
of mad. This is the I'm doing a Journeyman event
and there is no NC State. It's a it's a
what the hell moment. It apparently they will not be
in Nashville this year. Not happy about it, however, looking
forward to that one. It's gonna be a lot of fun.
Talk about that at a later time. But yeah, no,
(35:18):
NC he stayed in Nashville.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
And I'm breaking fighting a Thanksgiving then yeah, over that
turkey that Frank raised look at all. It's full circle.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
But no, I do not hate Trumbull. I just thought
that you jumped the gun a little bit on on
announcing his presence, and then you wanted you wanted some backup.
And Holton Schultz put that to bed literally and figured.
Speaker 4 (35:44):
He was mad because I said, he looks like a
four year old.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
It's fine, He's always going to look like a four
year old in the face. He's he's a he's a
young gentleman in the face, and then the rest of
him is built like a built like a wooly mammoth.
And but he is one of the nicest people, and
his dad is awesome.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
And I've never met him, so I can't. I can't
say anything bad about him. Love his dad, Love that man.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
Every time I see him, he comes up, shakes my hand,
love it.
Speaker 4 (36:10):
Love that guy.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
But no, I honestly, I do think that Trumble is
a contender at the weight.
Speaker 3 (36:15):
I do.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (36:16):
I would love to see him and Gadali Wressel five
more times, right, Like, I think that they're both very
close in styles. They they move their feet very well,
and you know, they're both offensive guys. I you know,
the outlier of heavyweights that is Colton Schultz, who is
going to just do the I'm bigger and stronger than
(36:38):
you and you're not going to move.
Speaker 4 (36:39):
Kind of a thing. When he can, he will do that.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
But no, I think I do think that that Trumble
is a contender at the weight, or at least an
All American contender. It's hard to say that anybody is
a contender outside of Perfleet at this point, because you know,
when him and and Gable meet once again after a
couple of years hiatus, that's going to be very very interesting.
(37:06):
But you know, I do think that that Trumbull is
is a is a guy that should be you should
be looking out for. But on that same note, as
you you have one heavyweight of sending you another heavyweight
leaving and Treffin heads to Lehigh. So this is another
another time that a Lehigh guy is is beaten up
(37:28):
on on a guy from either the Big ten. We
beat it, you know, we had a guy, we had
Lemley lows, we had kay Orini lose and now, man,
it's just must be something in the water in the
Lehigh Valley.
Speaker 4 (37:40):
I have no idea what it is.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
They just read great people in that entire place is
really what it is. But no, what do you make
of the of the move for and robbing. I'm talking
to you and then also on what you to chime
in as well on how it helps Lehigh. But what
do you make on the move for Treffen? Do you
feel like it's a good fit?
Speaker 4 (37:58):
Yeah, I think so. He's graduating early.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
He's wrestling Unattached this semester, so that's my understanding. Is
the only way that they can do a mid year
transfer now since that that rule has changed, so he'll
be a grad transfer competing, not competing this semester.
Speaker 4 (38:13):
Attached.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
He's good. I mean, he's he was right outside of
of all American range last year. I will contend that
you know, he hasn't been the same since he cut
his hair, because he used to have just a fantastic
head of hair and it's been a little downhill since then.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
I like how we all nodded like we know and
miss it.
Speaker 4 (38:35):
I do.
Speaker 3 (38:36):
I do? Uh No, I think he's he's great. He's
got so much potential, kind of under underrated. I think
he's seven and oh this year wrestling Unattached has a
win over Lafman. He's got got a ton of potential
and to get him in a lineup for a second
semester is going to be a huge addition for Lehigh.
Speaker 4 (38:56):
Yeah awesome.
Speaker 1 (38:56):
What are your thoughts on on the addition for for
Lehi and have you wait and how it helps them?
As what is it? Nate Taylor is not able to
be in the line. I think he's what taken medical
or something like that.
Speaker 3 (39:08):
Yeah, it seems like he's out for the year. When
he got hurt.
Speaker 5 (39:10):
A journeyman originally thought it was originally the thought that
he had a little sprain, would be back for it,
would be out for a few weeks, and we talked
about that.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
Actually turns out it's actually worse than that.
Speaker 5 (39:20):
Found that out, you know, a day or two ago,
and do Treford thing happened pretty quick, and I think
Machiavello connection from ENCI State now he's at the Lehigh
Valley Restling Club and it was probably a big factor
in that.
Speaker 3 (39:32):
But yeah, I mean it's obviously huge.
Speaker 5 (39:34):
You have a top eight guy and the rankings go
down just bringing a guy that's right behind him, you know,
So it's it's great timing wise, and you know, luckily,
like Robbie said, he was unattached this year, so he's
able to transfer and we'll see him second semester, so
it's unfortunate he's gonna miss Penn State duel that's coming
up in the next two weeks here, but you know,
(39:55):
we'll see him at action second semester and Eiwa's which
heavyweight this, you know, pretty tough bracket.
Speaker 4 (40:01):
There, musical chairs, the heavyweights.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
I heard Friday night that he was in the portal
and then by Sunday, Monday morning, he's he's at Lehigh,
So it's pretty pretty quick turnaround happen nowadays.
Speaker 4 (40:17):
Yeah, yeah, is he is he at Lehigh?
Speaker 1 (40:20):
Or is he.
Speaker 4 (40:21):
Still in state?
Speaker 3 (40:23):
Finishing classes?
Speaker 4 (40:24):
Finished classes?
Speaker 2 (40:25):
Right?
Speaker 3 (40:26):
Yeah, which I mean good on Pat for you know,
keeping him in the room and and allowing that and
having a workout partner with with Trumbull and you know,
could have been a dick about it and just kicked
him out of the room.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
But that yeah, that doesn't always happen.
Speaker 3 (40:43):
That is Yeah, is cool.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
Shout out Pat and his beard.
Speaker 5 (40:48):
Wouldn't it be something if those two meet like in
the quarters were around the twelve.
Speaker 4 (40:53):
I was gonna say it comes down until it is.
Speaker 3 (40:56):
Yeah, just so familiar with each other, and oh god.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
I could have just been a dick for two weeks.
Speaker 4 (41:06):
Before we jumped to the conferences that we cover.
Speaker 1 (41:09):
I want to talk about the big twelve, Oklahoma State
getting a couple of wins and Utah Valley they're they're
the match they had with Utah Valley, they had over
what five thousand fans there. So you're already seeing the
presence of you know what's being brought in by that
new coaching staff and a lot of these new transfers,
(41:30):
specifically Baraclaw. So you know, shout out to Adam Hall
for for doing these things right in and out T
shirts and you know, making sure that they're hyping up
when these bigger powerhouse programs are coming in. Saw the
same thing with Iowa last year. I mean they last week,
they they wrestle Feller Mine last year or.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
Last week, and.
Speaker 1 (41:57):
They had a ton of fans, right, they had a
ton of fans. So, like, I think we should have
more of these things. Obviously, you know UVU and Oklahoma State,
that's a that's a conference tool, So that will most
likely continue to happen anyway. But like even if it
is you know, your team getting beat up, it's it's
(42:17):
kind of it's kind of like Alabama playing mercer last
week in football paid a ton of money and you know,
you may gotten your asses kicked, but you you really
kind of were able to showcase your team against a
bigger program. And I think what Adam Hall is doing
(42:37):
is showing that's us, that's where we want to go,
and this is this is the kind of a team
that we want to be facing off against, and that
we're they're in our conference anyway, but just you know,
showing showcasing to your fans, like these are the teams
we're going to bring in, This is the kind of
atmosphere that we want to build, This is the kind
of support that we really want to have for their guys.
And then obviously all the things that bear Clau's doing
(42:59):
right his match with the Mean came down to criteria
with right out, but making that the last match, making
sure that the butt stayed in the seats, Like that's
the stuff that you need to do to build around
your program. So I thought it was awesome. And then
obviously Taylor goes on they move on to Oregon State
and they beat Oregon State as well, and there were
(43:20):
a couple of matches in that that were that were
really good, you know, Serber beating Munos and T Travis
was the only loss during that one for Oklahoma State
to to Styles. So you know, Big twelve doing doing
some big things in Oregon State also had a really
big crowd on hand too, so.
Speaker 4 (43:37):
Awesome deal in the Big twelve.
Speaker 1 (43:39):
Do you guys have any thoughts and or comments on
how these new programs or at least these new coaching
staffs are are building on you know, the little bit
that they have.
Speaker 3 (43:51):
I mean, I've said it since since he was hired.
Adam's going to be a phenomenal, phenomenal program builder, phenomenal coach.
Understands marketing, understands building, understands how to.
Speaker 4 (44:02):
Get seat you know, people in the seats.
Speaker 3 (44:04):
I think the administration has been super bought in with him,
which is which is huge. The eighties very on board,
their marketing teams, very on board, President of the schools
on board. So I mean he's got a lot of
support behind him, and you see, you know how much
he's able to already accomplish, and in just a few
months he's been there, They're going to be you know,
they're going to be a problem in the years to come.
Speaker 5 (44:28):
Yeah, I just I love what bar called means to
that program. You know, I think I might open up
some eyes to some guys that are maybe second string
behind a multiple time All American NCAA champion, know, from
big school Penn State, Ohio State, Isowa or whatever. There's
other options out there, you know, go to a smaller
school and be the face of that school and help
(44:48):
build that program almost from scratch. You know, maybe not
from scratch. I've had you know, Demitrius Ramero and there
and few other guys.
Speaker 3 (44:55):
Lately, but you know it's it's back in the day. Yeah,
be are.
Speaker 2 (45:00):
Yeah they've always been consistent.
Speaker 5 (45:02):
Yeah they have been, but you know it's just a
brand new it's a brand new look, brand new staff
and kind of you know, reshaping that that entire program.
Speaker 3 (45:09):
And he's a big deal for that.
Speaker 5 (45:10):
You know, he's like a top three, top four rank
guy from a small school like that putting eyes on
the program. It's incredible what what Baryco has done. It's
only November, still, you know, wait till wait, till March.
Speaker 3 (45:21):
It'll be a big deal.
Speaker 2 (45:24):
One hundred percent, right, And you know, just to kind
of piggyback off of what you guys just said, it's
It's really impressive what he was able to do immediately.
I mean, like again, there was consistency over the years.
They've had all Americans, They've had pretty solid teams, but
you know, they had the same staff there forever, right,
and it is what it is. He did a great
job with the program. But you get somebody who everybody
(45:45):
knew was going to be a good coach coming in
new ideas, bringing some new excitement and energy, and he's
getting the right schools in there. And I know we've
talked about Pendleton too, but like just I just realized that, Yeah,
they've had Iowa and Oklahoma State now and it's November nineteenth,
so they're not messing around there either. Where is that
(46:06):
I want to say Coralville, but that's not right. Yeah, Ballot,
that's right, thank you. They're doing great things in court
ballas well. That make it sound better.
Speaker 3 (46:16):
Yeah, the right letters.
Speaker 1 (46:18):
Yeah, there's a thing the Northwest the yeah and the
thing for me also with with Adam Hall. And you know,
I'm sure we're we're gonna continue to praise Adam Hall,
mostly because he's an awesome dude. But he was at
Anti State with Pat when Pat had no butts in
the seats, right, So he saw how they started to
(46:39):
build around those guys and build around the program to
the point where now it's filled everywhere they go. You know,
when they wrestle U n C at U n C,
there's more red in that gym than Baby Blue.
Speaker 4 (46:53):
And that's a very big deal.
Speaker 3 (46:54):
And that's what Carolina have to build you.
Speaker 1 (46:57):
Oh, I'm sorry, Carolina Blue, Carolina Blue. Should I should
actually probably grab my Carolina Blue sneakers I've got over here, honestly, which.
Speaker 3 (47:06):
Which Parry, I have ten of them?
Speaker 2 (47:08):
I have? Why in your double digit pairs of Yeah?
Speaker 4 (47:18):
Just uh just four just four pairs of Carolina Blue.
Speaker 1 (47:21):
Over here, eight chos not even double not even not
even double digits.
Speaker 2 (47:28):
One part I just thought of too that I was great,
was that, uh? I mean it's not like Boise, Idaho
was huge, right, you know, he was at Boise State
competing and so they did a good thing in an
unconventional place with wrestling to to really make it big.
And again, I know historically like the program was still
there and having success before Animal was there, but still
point being unconventional area. Same with Utah.
Speaker 4 (47:55):
Reed agreed, Let's jump to w A Austin.
Speaker 1 (47:58):
What out of the you know, stealing from the ACC
once again, What's what's happening in the i w A.
Speaker 3 (48:07):
Well for how much the ACC has stolen from the
i w A and IVY. So I think it's it's
fair we get one back in return. I think I'm
sure Robbie can agree to that.
Speaker 4 (48:15):
We just took all of Columbia.
Speaker 5 (48:17):
That's okay, essentially including the coach. Yeah, I know, and McGonagall,
but who's counting anyway. H Army, Army and Purdue had
a really.
Speaker 3 (48:27):
Good duel on what was that Saturday? Friday night? Saturday?
Speaker 5 (48:30):
I forget what the day that was, nineteen nineteen, Criteria Army.
Speaker 3 (48:36):
Was it someday? Yeah, yeah, it was sometime.
Speaker 4 (48:40):
What are days anyway? Yeah, the days are running together,
they've playing together.
Speaker 5 (48:44):
Yeah, And we talked about Peterson taking a loss from Rutgers.
He actually lost to Lu's Robbie Sigerish, pretty tough kid,
and then Robbie went out and lost to the Princeton backup.
So there was a little bit of a really high
for l I U and then a little bit of
a low there.
Speaker 3 (49:00):
But he'll be back. He'll be good. Just shocking to
see Peterson drop two matches one day.
Speaker 5 (49:06):
Usually doesn't happen for him. What else happened here at
Lehigh where you saw Ryan crookham back against Morgan State
came out with a tech fall. But now wrestling Minnesota
got their butt beat a little bit, but we're in.
There was some tough matches. Forty one was overtime that
was good with Van Bauer and Chapel. Chapel lost in overtime.
(49:29):
Tackets took out, clicked the whiting and takeets was I
I w a Wrestler of the week.
Speaker 4 (49:36):
We also learned that Ray Buck now was not a person.
Speaker 3 (49:39):
Yes that is true. Yeah, he's a what it's a what?
Speaker 1 (49:43):
Not?
Speaker 3 (49:43):
A who?
Speaker 4 (49:45):
Very weird saw that conversation?
Speaker 3 (49:47):
Yeah, Shenanigans.
Speaker 4 (49:50):
But where why did they shorten it?
Speaker 5 (49:53):
I don't know, that's probably our question. Do some digging
into and find out and get the word out about that.
But yeah, I think that's just kind of they're like
a sport champ whatever you want to call it.
Speaker 3 (50:03):
Right, Who was the school named after if it's not
named after Ray ray Buck Noll?
Speaker 4 (50:07):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (50:09):
Maybe two people named Buck and Nell. Maybe it was a.
Speaker 3 (50:12):
Couple that's yeah, that could be true.
Speaker 4 (50:16):
And Erry's cousin they had a pet bison. Yeah, as
one does.
Speaker 1 (50:26):
How how have things looked for Princeton in year two
of the well kind of year one of that newly
rebuilt coaching staff, but year two with with you know,
head coach Dubuque now fully in, you know, at the
helm of everything in year two and he's got you know,
some of those big horses in the lineup that we
(50:46):
expected to see.
Speaker 3 (50:48):
Yeah, well they uh, they wrestled in State. Took two
bouts there. Ty Whalen looking really good at one. He's
he's been a bright spot there. Luke Stout had a
nice win.
Speaker 5 (51:01):
Those two guys have kind of been you know, the
power horses in their lineup lately, just really good results.
Speaker 3 (51:07):
We haven't seen mcgow yet. What's that That Luke stoutwin
wasn't great? It was over their backup Machiavella and it
was Yeah.
Speaker 5 (51:18):
I think Luke Stout is I think the weight cut
might be getting to him. You know, it's kind of
fourth fifth year at that weight class. He does have
a big cut. And again it's still early. You know,
everyone says that March is what matters. He'll be back better,
but yeah, you kind of expect him to win that
one by a little more. But like I was saying,
we haven't seen Mark Anthony McGowan yet. I'm not sure
(51:39):
if he's dinged up, kind of getting out of weight.
I'm not sure what the deal is there. I should
find out. But yeah, I think they're looking better.
Speaker 3 (51:47):
They beat l a U.
Speaker 5 (51:48):
After they get they lost NC State. I think we'll
have some growing pains. They still got a few young
guys in there, but I think they'll be good this year.
They'll have a few bright spots.
Speaker 4 (52:00):
The what was it called the Jersey jostles? Was that
what it was called?
Speaker 1 (52:07):
Another really great atmosphere that you know, I want to
make sure that we're pointing those out because obviously the
the usual suspects of Penn State, Oklahoma State, Iowa, those
guys are always gonna have really good crowds.
Speaker 2 (52:19):
On hand.
Speaker 1 (52:20):
Obviously, Rutgers travels very well, and this was in Jersey,
but like the amount of fans that are coming out
early on in the season already, you know, we talked
about UVU, we talked about Oregon State. This was another
one of those times. And then obviously everything that Campbell
has been doing along with Wyoming wrestling in you know,
different atmospheres. So so far, the wrestling has been great
(52:43):
and the atmospheres have been great this year, and hopefully
it carries over into the rest of the season, it
doesn't just drop off. So that was another one that
was like, you know, catching clips and seeing what the
crowd looked like, because that was on us.
Speaker 3 (52:57):
It look the crowd.
Speaker 1 (52:59):
It looked very Jersey. There were some definite fist pumps
that that were going on. Not not as Jersey as
a Jersey Mike's Arena crowd, but it was a very
Jersey crowd. But like, like I said, awesome atmosphere. You
love how these fans are out to support their teams
early in the year. So hopefully they you know, it
(53:20):
doesn't start to fall off at all.
Speaker 2 (53:24):
keV.
Speaker 4 (53:25):
Let's let's move to the conference we cover in the
Big Ten.
Speaker 1 (53:28):
And my first question, and I really want somebody to
explain this to me, and this has actually happened to
me in high school, but I've never seen it in college,
is how the hell was there a thirty eight to
negative one match for Maryland.
Speaker 2 (53:40):
Oh boy, Yeah, well, Maryland wrestled really well.
Speaker 4 (53:46):
I'll start there, Uh, well enough gonna make somebody angry
enough to lose it.
Speaker 2 (53:50):
One yeah, yeah, so basically one fifty seven. You know,
just it didn't look like during the match there was
any real chippiness that that I can recall at leave.
It was just a pretty regular match. But at the
end of it, you know, it was kicks thrown from
from the bottom and they kind of got into each
other's face and it was like, all right, well, and
(54:12):
then I think I was also watching a movie with
my kids and trying to get things going on at
the same time.
Speaker 4 (54:17):
That's where the k really were.
Speaker 2 (54:19):
Yeah, exactly. It was. Uh it was with a crane kick,
is what happens.
Speaker 4 (54:24):
Was watching Cobra Kai Yeah, yeah, yeah, but no, it
was good.
Speaker 2 (54:28):
I mean it was it was they wrestled really well.
Both coaches got a team point taken away, so you know,
thirty nine and out then or thirty eight to negative one,
whatever you want to call it. That's that's how it
ended up.
Speaker 1 (54:39):
So yeah, unfortunately only one coach had a team point
to give.
Speaker 2 (54:44):
Yeah yeah, yeah, that was that was tough. But you know,
I mean I think it's an indication of two main things, Right,
I think that Maryland has done a really good job
over the last couple of years. And in talking to
coach Clemson, he feels really really good, basically for the
first time since he's gotten there, about the depth they
have in the room at all and at all the
(55:05):
weight Right, they feel like they've got more competition. People
really feel like they can get in there and are
challenging for the spot to be competitive as contributors to
the team. And you know, I know American has done
a lot of really good things, but you know, they
ran into a team that was trying to establish that
they're the DC squad. So and they certainly showed it.
Speaker 3 (55:26):
And on Saturday night, Yeah, that was Mason's going to
have something to say about that bringing the DMV.
Speaker 4 (55:34):
Yes, what happened, Yeah, that was that was definitely ugly.
Speaker 1 (55:45):
Other performances, we had a little crossover between Big ten
and the ACC with Nebraska wrestling UNC and I Nebraska
must be just like a glutton for punishment this weekend
because of the way that they set up their schedule.
Let's wrestle Campbell outside and yes and inside, Oh ship,
(56:10):
it's raining, let's move it inside. Let's allow jo And
and Donian to wrestle basically the exact same match that
they wrestled at the Olympic Trials or at the World
Team Trials, but add pylons to it. There was there
were pylons and let's.
Speaker 4 (56:28):
But no pylon cam. So was there really pylons there?
Speaker 1 (56:31):
I mean, I did see a clip where they were
both reaching for it, and doni and got to it first.
But Jao being jail waits till the last six seconds
to score takedown on Indonian just like he did and
gets that win. But Nebraska wrestled Campbell both outside and inside.
(56:54):
There was an all star match. I'm pretty sure half
of Nebraska's team drove to Chapel Hill to start the
duel against U n C, and then the other half
finished the duel with Campbell, and then that half of
the team headed over to u n C. So hell
(57:14):
of a weekend to see.
Speaker 3 (57:17):
Unless you duel that no one got to see.
Speaker 2 (57:21):
Yeah, I don't see the problem. They made it.
Speaker 3 (57:27):
Makes it tough, Let's go.
Speaker 4 (57:30):
I mean, it was a it was a hell of
a time.
Speaker 1 (57:32):
I'm I'm good friends with Sonny Santiago's dad, and uh
he sent me a literally a couple hours ago sent
me a picture of Sonny in on a leg on
Entrell Taylor and said he got here twice and couldn't finish.
And you look at the score and the score was
(57:52):
four to two, and I'm like, that's frustrating, and he's
just like yeah, So I'm sure it was a frustrating
performance for UNC. It was also very frustrating for Nebraska.
Speaker 2 (58:07):
Who was it?
Speaker 1 (58:08):
Van Dee goes oh and two on the day losing
to Campbell and UNC? So yes, one one was you know,
the first one not so much, the second one definitely.
But the match, obviously that that everyone wanted to see
is love It versus versus Lachlan Love It comes out
(58:30):
four oh and and wins that match. Guys, what did
you make of it? Either from the ACC side or Kevin?
What are your thoughts from the Big ten side?
Speaker 2 (58:39):
Love It has got to have a chip on his shoulder.
I mean he's got to be coming into this season.
He was he looked like the number one guy all
of last year and was having a great time. And
again I've said this before, I don't want this to
make I really don't want to be the guy who's like,
stop smiling love it, you know, because like you know,
you like that out of your heart. Yeah, be mean
(59:00):
and hate this.
Speaker 4 (59:02):
You know, robots we don't celebrate. We just wrestle.
Speaker 2 (59:05):
You shouldn't look like you're having fun. So that's not me. Uh,
but you know, I think coming into this year, because
this is probably his last year's of eligibility, I would
think he's got to have a mission and he's going
to be focused and ready to go. So I said,
miss last year mission.
Speaker 1 (59:23):
Yeah, not not the mission that brock Hardy was on.
The mission, different mission, different mission.
Speaker 4 (59:28):
Okay, yeah, yeah for sure. Yeah, Robbie, what what do
you make of that match?
Speaker 2 (59:36):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (59:36):
It's hard to make much out of it.
Speaker 3 (59:38):
I mean, it didn't sound like it was. Clearly I
didn't see it didn't sound like it was, you know,
the greatest match either direction. There's a takedown in an escape,
not much to it, So I don't know. Lachlan has
two losses this year, one to tie Waters and one
to to Rich Love It.
Speaker 4 (59:58):
I can't really complain about it.
Speaker 3 (01:00:00):
There are those, but in both the losses, he wasn't
very offensive or wasn't able to get to his offense,
and that was kind of The biggest question coming up
to forty nine it is, is if that's going to
translate moving up the weight. So you know, he's gonna
he's got a tough schedule this year, so it's going
to be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
Hopefully he re he learns really well from his from
(01:00:23):
his matches, from his losses, and is able to make
adjustments really well. So I'm hopeful that you know, both
of those can help him adjust whatever he needs to
adjust to get to his offense.
Speaker 4 (01:00:35):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (01:00:36):
The other match that was notable was already beating Gavin
Kine also a very close match, very close matches there
as well, So I mean, who knows, maybe the travel
probably doesn't help Nebraska whatsoever. And even for unc there's
probably some uncertainty of when things are going to happen,
(01:00:59):
like when are they gonna get here. Let's make sure
that we have enough time to warm up, like you know,
very very awkward situation, but is what it is. The
duel was wrestled. The results of the results were still
at the beginning of the year. We're only a month
and so we'll see. The other note from me that
I had from the big ten was finally seeing Penn
(01:01:23):
State's lineup kinda so it was basically yeah, like basically
all the guys except for two of the guys. Two
of the five guys that wrestled the night before in
the All Star Classic. Bartlett and van Ness had the
night off when they wrestled Drexel, so we didn't see
them after the All Star but we did get an
(01:01:44):
answer of did Facundo really dropped to fifty seven? And
he obviously did because he competed there, But there's probably
still some figuring out there. I think I saw the
clip of Kal where they asked him a question about
figuring something out and he's like, I don't have it
figured out, and even if I did, I probably wouldn't
tell you, which is literally the microcosm of asking Kale
(01:02:08):
questions uh for the most part throughout his career. But
that's that's right. Modesty is pretty awesome. Next question, Yeah,
glad you asked. Anybody else have anything good to say?
But yeah, I mean Penn State looks tough. Obviously, they
always look tough, and I think with Pacundo down at
(01:02:29):
fifty seven, maybe maybe they're a little bit tougher.
Speaker 4 (01:02:34):
Who knows.
Speaker 1 (01:02:35):
I mean, obviously Kasik is an All American that you
could potentially be replacing with Facunda, who hasn't done that yet.
So we'll see, right, We'll certainly see and we'll see
how he holds up throughout the year with the weight
cut being down at fifty seven, because he is a
pretty big guy, you know, he's he's tall, lanky, So
(01:02:57):
being down at fifty seven, we'll see.
Speaker 3 (01:02:59):
Yeah, he was leaving a lot of those guys.
Speaker 5 (01:03:02):
Yeah, he was lean at sixty five too, and coming
down another weight class, he's that's probably a good cut
for him.
Speaker 2 (01:03:09):
Well, and you also got consider the fact that maybe
he's been thinking for the last year or so of
getting up to seventy four or eighty four.
Speaker 3 (01:03:18):
And maybe yeah, you know, I'm going back.
Speaker 4 (01:03:21):
Down, Yeah, I you know, And every it's weird.
Speaker 1 (01:03:25):
Every time I looked at him, I saw Quentin, right,
and mostly because I think he looks exactly like Quentin, right, Yeah,
But I also but I also thought that he would
ascend in weight like Quentin Wright did and fill out
into that long, lanky frame that Quentin did in moving
up to ninety seven.
Speaker 4 (01:03:45):
But I mean, you got to get in where you
fit in or you leave, and I.
Speaker 1 (01:03:49):
Think that's what happened with Barack Law and he's now
UVU and now Facundo trying to get into the lineup
here at fifty seven, and I think that'll be really
kind of hammered out this weekend when they're both at
a at an open tournament. So we'll certainly see they're
(01:04:10):
at what the Army Invitationals, so we'll see what the
Penn State lineup looks like. Kevin, any any other thoughts
from the Big Ten and any Lemley watch.
Speaker 2 (01:04:21):
I did get to call the Michigan and Columbia duel
with Miles and Mean, so that was super fun at
Chrysler Center and the one the one note I had
from that was, you know, so one sixty five, they
didn't send out Bo Mantononi is hurt, so he's out
for the year, and they were kind of up in
(01:04:42):
the air on who they wanted to send out, but
they sent out Brock Mantonona, who still would have a
couple of days. You can use one five before you
lose your red shirt. So they threw him out there
against number twenty five Caesar Alvin, and he TechEd him
and it looked as bad in person as it did
on the scoreboard, you know. But there was one point.
Speaker 4 (01:05:03):
Where he's he the last of the Mantonona's I think,
so ever.
Speaker 2 (01:05:09):
Never it's like their last name, it just goes on
and yeah, yeah, but no, it was. It was awesome.
So at one point he gets on in like his
third low single, and they end up getting to like
a body lock on the edge. He attacks with it,
he turns, he gets Caesar down, Caesar bellies out so
(01:05:30):
he doesn't give up back points. But they were right
in front of the camera, right there, and and Mantonona
just kind of looked up and the smile of the
camera and a wink, and it was like it was.
Speaker 4 (01:05:40):
So most most manton thing.
Speaker 2 (01:05:43):
It was. It was the most badass thing I've ever seen,
like a true freshman.
Speaker 1 (01:05:49):
That was like that is that is a Mantonona signature
moment if I've ever seen one, because they're I mean,
Anthony was the exact same way.
Speaker 2 (01:06:00):
Oh yeah, he was.
Speaker 4 (01:06:01):
He was electric when he was in high school.
Speaker 1 (01:06:04):
It was amazing to see him wrestle in high school
and then to meet him.
Speaker 4 (01:06:10):
The funniest thing.
Speaker 1 (01:06:11):
Is like we were on our way back from somewhere
and we saw him at the airport and we had
a chance to actually sit down and like talk with him,
and I'm like, this kid is electric, Like it's he's
not just this person on the mat where he's just
throwing crazy moves and everything else. Like he told us
how like he was like the only person that was
(01:06:32):
on his wrestling team in his high school. So that's
why his singlets could always be super crazy. And he
just practiced with his dad in the barn, and the
school was just like, yeah, like we'll subsidize this because
he was winning titles. Like how are you gonna say,
like no, like we don't want we don't want somebody
that's gonna win titles for the school. So like they
(01:06:52):
just allowed him to be basically a one man show,
and he just went and collected doc B titles and
collected you know, California state titles, and he just created
singlets at will because they just kind of gave him
the budget and he just had a ton of different singlets,
you know what I mean. So it just but he
was he was so good, and you know, it didn't
(01:07:14):
pan out for him when he got to college because
a lot of those things don't you know, they don't
transfer you know what I mean, Like, gotta be a
lot more disciplined in college than you are in high school,
and it just didn't transfer. So, you know, a freshman
Mantonona looking into the camera and winking. I think that's
part for the Mantonona of course.
Speaker 2 (01:07:33):
Yeah, it was just so cool. Like again, I was
on the mic and I just kind of froze for
a minute. I was like, dude, you see that. That
was awesome anyway, good takedown.
Speaker 3 (01:07:43):
The thing was winking at you, claunch.
Speaker 2 (01:07:46):
Dude, it was. It was awesome. It was a really
cool due. I was happy to watch. That was the
biggest thing that in Jacob Cardina is is massive and
he looked pumped to be debuting there at Chrysler. So
very good time, very good time.
Speaker 3 (01:08:00):
I like Kurdin. He's a good kid.
Speaker 4 (01:08:04):
Dopeness all right.
Speaker 1 (01:08:07):
So, as we always do, we turn the page and
after recapping the cool things that went on, we jump
to the things that we're looking forward to.
Speaker 4 (01:08:17):
And I'm going to start in the a sec Robbie,
what's coming up this week? Huge weekend for the ACC.
Speaker 3 (01:08:23):
Actually have an article coming out that kind of highlights this.
But if this is a weekend that you can get
to ACC country. There are some fantastic out of conference
tools that I would highly highly recommend attending. Starting off
Friday night, we got Rutgers coming in to Blacksburg for
their annual duel at the Moss Art Center. So on
(01:08:44):
the stage, it's going to be a great duel, some
some fantastic matchups there.
Speaker 4 (01:08:49):
The big one to really keep an eye on is
the heavyweight.
Speaker 3 (01:08:53):
Looks like Jimmy Mullen's going to get to go putting
his ten and O record on the line against Slavakuski.
That's gonna be a fun one. Then we got Lee
High pitt on Saturday at Pittsburgh and then Sunday night
UVA host Michigan Kevin still not coming down for some reason.
(01:09:17):
And then look it's like seven miles from an arbor,
know what you're talking about. Yeah, And then Monday, another
big ten team coming into Chapel Hill, Illinois and u
n C which also should have some some really fun matchups.
So good weekend in the ACC. Highly recommend getting down here.
(01:09:37):
And then Utah Valley's coming out this weekend as well,
double dip here. They're going to hit Duke in the afternoon,
UH and then NC State in the evening. So Adam's
returned into Raleigh and should be a pretty good reception
for him there.
Speaker 1 (01:09:52):
Yeah, that should be awesome. They better have like an
Adam Hall montage that they play. Absolutely, guys come back,
like I need, I need a slide show. If you're
watching this, I need a slideshow of Adam Hall's greatest
hits before the duel.
Speaker 3 (01:10:06):
Have you ever seen Pat use a computer?
Speaker 4 (01:10:10):
Rachel uses Rachel? We need uh.
Speaker 3 (01:10:13):
Rachel?
Speaker 4 (01:10:14):
Yeah, yeah, I know. Rachel Miller was gonna do it.
Used to be Melissa.
Speaker 3 (01:10:19):
Yeah, shout out Melissa.
Speaker 4 (01:10:22):
She's a mom.
Speaker 2 (01:10:23):
Now.
Speaker 1 (01:10:23):
I actually just talked to her, like a couple of
weeks ago.
Speaker 3 (01:10:26):
She's still in Norman.
Speaker 1 (01:10:27):
She is still in Norman. She's working with the Oklahoma
gymnastics team. So yeah, I just talked her a couple
weeks ago. She's doing well.
Speaker 4 (01:10:35):
Melissa Simmons awesome, awesome person.
Speaker 1 (01:10:37):
Yeah, she was, she was.
Speaker 2 (01:10:39):
She was dope. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:10:42):
All those matches that you talked about have that big
ten A C C crossover. Those are the ones I'm
looking forward to as well. Talked about Penn State at
the Army Invitational, looking forward to seeing kind of how
things shake out of fifty seven.
Speaker 4 (01:10:57):
The other one for me that's uh.
Speaker 1 (01:11:01):
Cross non conference duel is Little Rock and Northwestern and
then obviously Iowa Iowa State. Yeah, so that that should
certainly be fun, Kevin, anything sticking out for you happening
in the big ten.
Speaker 2 (01:11:20):
Robbie already talked about the major one that I was
I was looking at, which is the Michigan Virginia duel
for Blood Round. Tommy and I are following Virginia this
year and and just want to make sure that they
get enough props and credit.
Speaker 4 (01:11:32):
And there's good matches in that one.
Speaker 2 (01:11:34):
There is, there is, you know, and Virginia is going
to be in a good spot with some of those,
I mean one sixty five. We'll see what Michigan ends
up doing. Low waits, they've got some questions too, But yeah,
I'm excited for forty one. What is it Geoffrey and
Lemley or no, it'll.
Speaker 4 (01:11:52):
Be Kiring Butler Jeffreys moving up.
Speaker 2 (01:11:54):
That's right, that's right, Geoffrey's Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:11:55):
Jack will probably be making his one forty nine debut,
which should be good against Guiltair.
Speaker 2 (01:12:03):
Yeah, so that'll be good. And then what Yarbo and.
Speaker 3 (01:12:07):
Ragerson like it will likely be gable border. My understanding
is that that Mos still dealing with some some lingering
affection was concussion early in the year, so they're hoping
to have him back for scuffle, if not earlier, but
at least by then.
Speaker 2 (01:12:28):
But no, so that that's gonna be a good one.
And then yeah, Iowa Iowa State, man, like, I just
remember how much fun that was last year and Arnold
coming out bumping up a weight class essentially winning the
duel for him, like that was that was unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (01:12:43):
Yeah, Iowa State has a pretty long list of guys
that they could potentially throw out them. I have their
their probables up in front of me, and it can
get It's gonna get pretty pretty damn serious with you know,
the amount of juggling that they might do. There's one two,
(01:13:07):
there's like four, yeah, four or five uh weight classes
where it says or and then obviously for them, they
lose a guy with Swerdurski being out Swederski, I think
it's like a knee injury or something, probably like an
ACL he's gonna be out for the season. And at
(01:13:29):
Cha Mendy is currently up at forty nine right now,
Zach Redding and Jacob Frost are in at forty one
if thing, and I know Atchamndia talked about like last
year saying he was gonna go up to forty nine,
excuse me, and he wanted to jump a couple of
weight classes, and you know, with him being at forty nine,
(01:13:51):
he's probably still kind of feeling that out. And now
with Tara Kina or excuse me, Tarakina, with Swardursky out,
maybe he's like, okay, maybe forty one is the spot
for me, right, so we'll certainly see it's you know,
and then Redding and Frost maybe they bump up to
forty nine and been there. I think that's kind of
(01:14:13):
Atcha Mendia's choice to make now with Swerderski being out,
but we'll certainly see. And then obviously I was still
figuring out what they're gonna do at seventy four and
eighty four. They have Brands, Kennedy, and Arnold all listed there,
but it is Brands and Kennedy that are split at
(01:14:34):
seventy four, and in Arnold's the only one that is
listed at eighty four. So still, you know, I think
they're still kind of feeling it out seeing which one
of these guys is going to be in the lineup
and just kind of trying to figure that out. But yeah,
I mean the match to watch though is going to
be a forty nine with Parco and Etchamendia. That's going
(01:14:56):
to be serious. That is going to really be a
very good bout that I think people should be paying
very close attention to. And then obviously Evan Frost and
Drake Ayal at thirty three will also be good to
any other adults on Iowa in Iowa.
Speaker 2 (01:15:14):
State, I think Buchanan and Christian Carroll is going to
be awesome. Like that's I mean, if Kristin wants to
do his thing and and really put it, you know,
his name out there. This is a big match and
a big situation to do it, you know, on the road.
So that's gonna be wild, young Buck versus the wily Vet.
Speaker 1 (01:15:36):
Yeah, and then obviously Bestiita and and Ben Keeter at
Heavyweightsida gonna be back. I think I would be surprised
if he wasn't for this one, right, Like, I think,
if anything, they were probably aiming at this one for
him to be back. I haven't heard anything of the
(01:15:56):
sort I know he is listed on the probables, but
that is, you know, obviously yet to be determined. I
think that if the match is at a hand by
that point, they save him. I don't think they throw
him out there. I think it'll probably be kind of
a kind of a game time decision for whether or
not he goes out, depending on how he feels. But
(01:16:17):
he is listed on the probables. Whether or not he
weighs in or not is still yet to be determined.
Speaker 4 (01:16:21):
But it's gonna be. It's obviously gonna be a really
really good one.
Speaker 3 (01:16:26):
And what about one seventy four with Aiden Riggins? Is
he gonna be the start at seventy four there?
Speaker 4 (01:16:34):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:16:34):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:16:35):
I'd have to I'd have to check with with Hackney
and see what he knows about the Iowa state lineup.
But I would assume so he is the only guy
listed on the probables, so I would assume, so what.
Speaker 4 (01:16:48):
They do have two guys listed at sixty five?
Speaker 1 (01:16:50):
So I you know, to to look at a probables
and say that this is what Kevin Dresser is going
to do, you have a better chance of winning the
lottery than guessing what their lineup is going to look like,
But seventy four could certainly be another one of those
weight classes where you see some other fireworks as well.
(01:17:11):
I think the bigger thing will be who goes out
Nelson Brands or Patrick Kennedy. As I've said in other
conversations that we've had, Nelson Brands hasn't looked the most offensive,
right Like, he had some matches where he didn't score
any takedowns in most of his matches so far this year,
so kind of yet to be seen. Maybe still kind
(01:17:32):
of shaking off that ring rust. But yeah, certainly to
be determined at seventy four, more so I think for
Iowa than for Iowa State.
Speaker 4 (01:17:41):
Going into this one.
Speaker 1 (01:17:44):
Austin. What's happening in the IWA this week.
Speaker 5 (01:17:47):
Got a lot of invites, maybe classics going on on Saturday.
That's usually a good one, but Nell never going to
be there. Indiana pretty solid this year. Nebraska's coming to
that one, so is Oregon State. So we're gonna see
a lot of teams that usually don't come to the
East too often out there to see some good competition.
(01:18:08):
You guys mentioned Black Knight invite Penn States bringing all
their starters From what I've been told, Rutgers is going there,
but with them wrestling the night before, it's probably going
to be majority second strength, third string guys. Michigan State.
I think they're bringing their starters there. They usually do,
so that's usually pretty solid.
Speaker 3 (01:18:27):
I'm interested in.
Speaker 5 (01:18:28):
Leehide and Pitt mainly because Lehigh has a bunch of
question marks in their lineup, especially forty nine fifty seven
sixty five, just to see who they throw out there.
I assume they're going to want to put their best
line up forward to try and win this duel against Pitt,
who's pretty tough, right, So maybe give you a little
indicator of who might be the front runner for some
(01:18:49):
of those weights.
Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
Just bump standage up to forty nine fifty.
Speaker 3 (01:18:53):
Time, have them wrestle all ten weights that guys.
Speaker 2 (01:18:55):
Said, why not? Why not?
Speaker 3 (01:18:57):
Yeah, he's great.
Speaker 5 (01:18:59):
Big red invite at Cornell a bunch of New York schools.
That's gonna be a round robin format, so a little
different this year. I think they're trying to build that
back up for what it used to be the body
Bar Invite. And then Sunday I will be personally at
the Keystone same day as the Philly Marathon, so the
city is painting the ass to get through. But yeah,
(01:19:21):
we're gonna see Claunches CMU there, and we're gonna see
Virginia Tech there.
Speaker 3 (01:19:26):
Virginia Tech starters are registered. I do have preceeds.
Speaker 5 (01:19:30):
I'll get an article and some of that stuff out
about that and the black Man Invite in the next
few days here, So being a lookout for that.
Speaker 1 (01:19:37):
And Nebraska was at the Navy Classic last year because
that's where Ridge Love It had that one zero match
in the finals and everybody was like, what the hell
is going on over.
Speaker 7 (01:19:48):
Yeah smiling too much, too much love.
Speaker 4 (01:19:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:19:56):
I think Virginia Tech is gonna have most of their
starters up at Keystone and it's an event that they
really like. They get some good matchups. It sounds like
Mullen is a kind of a game time decision. Kaka
is going for sure at heavyweight. Mullen will be a
game time decision after Friday night whether he goes or not.
Sasso is still dinged up, so it's Andy Smith at
(01:20:17):
ninety seven. Other than that, I think it's pretty much
the lineup that we've seen so far from them. Yeah,
Like I said, I got the preseeds and just quick
quick thoughts on one thirty three.
Speaker 5 (01:20:28):
Nodo McGonagle, Almeida from Penn is tough, so is Ryan
Miller and Mason Leipert from FNM. So I think that'll
be a fun weight class. I think forty one will
be fun. Latona Wyatt, Henson and CJ. Composto, So those
three there would be battling. I think you'll see some
good wrestling. Just those are two way classes that really
(01:20:48):
stuck out to me.
Speaker 3 (01:20:49):
May be honest with you. Yeah, we'll see look good
on Friday. Yeah, we'll see Henson back too. I'm excited
to see Henson. He also looked good on Friday. It
was really cool to see them honor him, put a
banter up in the in the rafters for him. He
means a lots of the program, and it's it's kind
of cool to see, you know, a younger guy get
(01:21:11):
that and.
Speaker 4 (01:21:12):
See what the school is doing for Yeah, good stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:21:17):
Now.
Speaker 1 (01:21:17):
The the last thing I gotta mention, and I know
we talked better already, but it's Gable versus Goadali happening,
Gable's first match in the lineup.
Speaker 4 (01:21:28):
Said he was ready to go last week, but ohum.
Speaker 1 (01:21:31):
He had to go be part of John Jones entourage
at UFC three O nine because he was part of
his training crew, So did not wrestle last week because
he was at Madison Square Garden.
Speaker 2 (01:21:43):
He taught Jones how to kick that guy in the stomach.
Speaker 1 (01:21:48):
If you've seen any of the videos of them training.
Gable damn near got knocked out by a knee by
John Jones during training.
Speaker 4 (01:21:55):
So yeah, the reason there's a reason he's coming back
and not going right now, not not yet.
Speaker 1 (01:22:03):
I think that'll take a couple of years before he
makes that jump. But I think it's gonna be a
good match with with Tay and Gable. Gables first folk
style match since leaving his shoes on the mat in Tulsa.
Speaker 3 (01:22:19):
Still don't know how he's allowed to wrestle after he
left his shoes on the mat.
Speaker 4 (01:22:23):
Yeah, I mean, because it's only a symbolic gesture. It's
against the bylaws, the laws that don't don't sleep on Tay.
I mean, I'm certainly not.
Speaker 1 (01:22:39):
It's a it's a good test for Gable with coming back,
and it's but I mean, let's call what it is.
It's very hard to be like man Gable's coming back.
Wonder how he's gonna look. I mean, the man was
training with John Jones just this past week, and then
before that he was training with Von Miller and at
(01:23:03):
some point had Aaron Donald that he was working with
on essentially hand fighting too, so like, and before that was.
Speaker 2 (01:23:10):
Training with Ray Mysterio Junior. He's he's been moving around.
Speaker 4 (01:23:16):
We'll see gonna wear a mask?
Speaker 3 (01:23:19):
Is that what you're saying?
Speaker 4 (01:23:20):
This is quite man. This is quite the iron Man
that that we've ever seen, right, Like, this is insane, But.
Speaker 3 (01:23:28):
He has not competed in iron Man though, So it's
true he is not. You could do the Philly Marathon
if you went to Keystone this weekend.
Speaker 1 (01:23:34):
H What what was funny to me during his press
conference was everyone you know is obviously trying to figure
out how he's able to come back. And something I
forgot and I think most people forgot, is he never
took an Olympic red shirt. And that's exactly how he's
(01:23:55):
able to come back, is they and I'm sure they
were banking on it too.
Speaker 4 (01:23:59):
Is just like you never took your Olympic red shirt.
Speaker 1 (01:24:03):
Take your Olympic red shirt and we'll get you back
in here, and that's how he can be and I'm
sure he's been enrolled for a while.
Speaker 4 (01:24:12):
That's how this is able to happen.
Speaker 1 (01:24:15):
They've been they've probably been looking at it for a
good bit because he said when he got released from
the NFL, he had other tryouts, but he also talked
to Eggham and they were figuring all these things out.
So they were probably like, hey, why don't we get
you in here just in case you get cleared to
come back and wrestle and you're already on the team.
(01:24:36):
We just won't put you on the active roster until
you get that we won't put you on the website roster.
The active roster is probably his name was probably on it,
but the website is completely different because if you think
about it, I mean, Penn State doesn't put their lineup
out their their actual roster out until a week before
they wrestle, which is two weeks into the damn season.
(01:24:58):
So the website rosters really don't mean ship. So Gable's back, It's.
Speaker 4 (01:25:05):
Gonna be fun.
Speaker 1 (01:25:06):
He's got Tay got up Goodali right out of the gate,
and I can't wait to see it.
Speaker 4 (01:25:13):
I don't even know I wish I had it up
in front of me. I don't even know.
Speaker 1 (01:25:17):
How to watch it this weekend. Is it on UFC
Fight Pass? Is it on BTN network?
Speaker 4 (01:25:27):
I think it's BT plus Looking.
Speaker 1 (01:25:30):
Up earlier, I think hold on, I can't remember where
to watch it, but I'm sure, by the way, don't
call it BTN plus.
Speaker 2 (01:25:39):
So they yell at you.
Speaker 4 (01:25:42):
Big ten plus, big plus, big plus, Big ten plus.
Speaker 1 (01:25:50):
And now I will say this and and this was
a tweet put out by Scotty Sentez earlier. Is he's
going to be looking to draw and and he said
that if he has choice when they flip, his choice
will be just started heavyweight.
Speaker 4 (01:26:07):
So you can see this.
Speaker 1 (01:26:09):
The man already put it out there. He said, we're
gonna flip for it, and if I win the flip,
I'm picking the start at heavyweight. So, Minnesota fans, he's
already given you a warning. Make sure you're there early,
because if Scotty has his way, the match everybody wants
to watch will be the first match of the evening.
(01:26:29):
So make sure you're there early and in your seat,
because I have a feeling Scott's gonna get his way.
Because in this case, Scotty does know.
Speaker 3 (01:26:39):
I was just waiting too, was going to say it.
I mean, Earl today he's just.
Speaker 2 (01:26:47):
Sitting there like shaking like.
Speaker 4 (01:26:50):
In this case, Scotty does know.
Speaker 2 (01:26:52):
It's like.
Speaker 3 (01:26:57):
Exactly and per the byelaws, Tay will be wearing a
campbell singlet.
Speaker 4 (01:27:01):
There you go, that's all happen.
Speaker 2 (01:27:05):
They just brings extra just in case.
Speaker 3 (01:27:06):
Look if we see the same same performance we sa
against Feldman though that.
Speaker 2 (01:27:10):
I mean even all of them just wear that singlet,
they're same.
Speaker 3 (01:27:19):
Remember when you used to have the blood rags.
Speaker 4 (01:27:21):
At least don't have to have that anymore.
Speaker 3 (01:27:22):
That's the hanky stuff in your in your crotch.
Speaker 2 (01:27:25):
That was.
Speaker 4 (01:27:26):
Some of the foreigners still use those. That's so sanitary,
That's all I've seen it. Some of the foreigners still
use this.
Speaker 1 (01:27:37):
But no, we've the season is you know, we're about
a month and it continues to get better and better
and better. I'm looking forward to this weekend. We've got
a host of duels across every single conference. I think
it's gonna be awesome. Obviously, make sure you guys are
watching the Big Twelve as well. With Oregon State going
to to what was that the Navy Classic, So we
(01:27:58):
turned to Annapolis exactly exactly, So stay tuned to literally
everything you can possibly watch.
Speaker 4 (01:28:06):

Speaker 3 (01:28:09):
