Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's happened in wrestling fans, Welcome back to the Internet
Wrestling Podcast. We are the four Horsemen that you love
listening to. And today we're going to jump into c
k l V as it is Cliff Keene weekend and
all these guys are gonna be betting big pun intended
in Vegas and I cannot wait. Yeah, except except for
(00:20):
That's why I was not going. I will not be
there for for that reason. We will not have any
any other betting. But I believe Iowa State is.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
There there you on the lookout, Well, what happens to
stay there?
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Yes, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
So except for the results, not like the All Star Classic.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
These yes, these definitely count and it is going to
be a good time. And we have the seeds. We
have some pseudo brackets thanks to Fantasy d One Wrestle
putting out some makeshift brackets that that we can take
a look at. But I want to start with a
little bit of history thanks to to Jason Brian as
we're you know, as I'm going on this shout out
(01:02):
tangent of the people putting out the good content. Jason
Bryant put out some some pretty cool content with Matt
Talk Online this morning that I had seen, and the
really cool nuggets that I pulled out of it is,
you know, there's there's a couple of four timers, Abbess
and Steamer, four timers at CKLV, and then three timers Gutches,
(01:22):
Askron and Garrett, all three timers at CKLV, and the
top ten. He's got the top ten all time KLV
team scores, and the top five all go to Oklahoma State,
every single one of them. And they will be yes,
(01:43):
oh yeah, eighty three, nineteen ninety, nineteen ninety nine, eighty eight,
and eighty two, those are the top five years that
they had those scores. And I guess what's this to say? Yeah,
the nineteen ninety team had seven finalists. Both of those
teams finished the season second at the NCAA Division One
(02:06):
Championships to Iowa. So those are the years that I
will want and and Oklahoma State was second. So I'll
tell you what, if Oklahoma State is able to repeat history,
I think they will feel like they are in very
good magic hands, if you catch what I'm saying. So
(02:26):
I am I'm loving, loving these these little history nuggets
from Jason Brian, he's he's kind of the the I
don't want to call him the arbiter of truth. I
know some other people have said that he is the arbiter,
have said that Jason Brian thinks he's the arbiter of truth.
I won't say who that is. You can probably glean
who I'm talking about. I just consider him a friend
(02:48):
and a really damn good source of the information, and
I get it when I need it. So continue to
do the cool things that you do, Jason Bryant. And
we're gonna dig into c KLV because it's it's time
to do that. And let's start with one twenty five.
And I think that there's gonna be some upsets here,
(03:09):
and I think we're all I think we're all betting
on I think we're all betting on some upsets. And
I have a feeling that Robbie's betting on a really,
really big one coming from the seventh seed in Vince Robinson.
What do you think of Vince Robinson getting that second
that that seventh seed, and how do you think he
fares when he inevitably will probably hit Matt Ramos in
(03:33):
that second round?
Speaker 4 (03:36):
Talking to Pat Pop about it and his his biggest
thing is that Vince, He's Saint. Vince is a gamer.
He likes the tournaments set up, he likes the likes
to be able to have a chance to go out
there and show everybody what he's got. And you know,
he's done nothing but that this year, So I'm not
doubting that he can go out and make some upsets
happen this weekend and and maybe put his name out
(03:59):
nationally for the people who aren't paying attention yet.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
I agree with that. I think I honestly I would
love to see. And this is this is my feeling
that Robinson versus Smith match that could potentially happen in
the finals is gonna hit so hard like a ninety
summer jam is gonna hit. And I am all for it,
(04:25):
all for it, But I want to I want to
kind of open up the field. Who are the guys
at one twenty five, whether seated or unseated. I know
we have the full list of guys in the spreadsheet
that I shared with you guys, if you guys want
to open that at all. The full list of guys
is in there for each one of the entries. But
who are the guys that you kind of have circled
(04:47):
and that you're looking to see some big performances from
at one twenty five outside of Robinson obviously.
Speaker 5 (04:56):
I mean I'm interested to see, you know, obviously you
talked about Robinson and Ramos potential quarter match, but I
want to see Ramos.
Speaker 6 (05:03):
You know, he had that big year two years ago
beating Spencer Lee n say finalists, couldn't quite get the
job done winning the title there last year. I think
he was around a twelve maybe around a sixteen guy.
I don't think the All American last year. So look
looking for a bounce back year and you know what
a good place to start at CKLV when you know
there's a lot of top rank guys there, and you
(05:23):
know Van Tresca was hurt last year, you know for
the most part too, so another potential bounce back year
for him. I'm interested in seeing those two guys. And
I probably still Robbie Sunder mentioned an NC State guy,
but I mean a ACC guy, you know. But Van
Tresca really talented, definitely has the skills to win this one.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
Well twenty five. For the last few years since since
Spencer's been gone, it's just been kind of a shit
show of you know, who's going to take it at
any given time.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
But I think that makes it so much better not
to cut you off. But I think that's why, right, Like,
even though it's been a shit show, it's been, it's
been must watch because any given we can have a
new guy jumping and ascending mm hm.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
And this, I mean this tournament has what like ten
of the top fourteen guys, so it's a lot of
potential for for people to make some noise and you know,
to make a name and have some big upsets. I mean,
Ventresca is in a good spot, you know, the false
to see. He'll have Tanner Jordan in the quarters and
that'd be a fun matchup to see. I mean, Daddy's
looked good since he's been back. He was out last year.
(06:25):
Cooper fun took his spot and had a pretty good season,
but ADDIE's looked great. An all Italian name matchup there,
Eddie n Tresco and Marcelo Malani, that'll be fun.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
Yeah, I'm winner gets the Canoli.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Yeah, I mean, I'm you know, maybe this isn't as
much fun to be like, Hey, remember how good Matt
Ramos is, you know, like he's like he has He's
destroyed everybody he wrestled with year, right, he has looked
every bit the part of the guy who was letting
it fly two years ago and had nothing to lose.
And last year we all, I mean he had losses
(07:04):
by this point in the season, you know, and he
had he just looked a little bit tighter in his
in his wrestling, and we really haven't seen that this
year now. Obviously this is clicking Las Vegas. We're doing
a podcast specifically walking through it for a reason. It's
it's the biggest you know, uh tournament.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Before the New year.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
So there's gonna be you know, difficult to wrestling going on,
and he should expect to have those those difficult matches.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
But I think he's ready for it this year.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
I think he's he's expecting to kind of have that
target on his back and to be, you know, fending
people off a little bit more aggressively this season than
maybe he was last. Another name to watch those is
Detric Navarro of Northwestern. He's just another guy to to
keep your eyes on and has looked good so far
this year.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Yeah, I agree with that. I had a chance to
talk to Storny at the beginning of the year, you know,
before everything started, and he's very good. I was not.
It was it was it was more so. I actually
was talking into their ad about their football stadium. It
was I don't know if you guys had a chance
to see that, but it was right next to the
water this year because they're redoing, uh, the stadium that's
(08:13):
named after me. It is it is my namesake in
Ryan's here. But no, like he was, he was very
high on Navarrow, a guy that that wasn't in the
lineup last year, took a red shirt and had a
lot of really good matches and had uh and when
he did step in the lineup, I think he beat
a couple of guys that were ranked or maybe even
ended up that were antique qualifiers. That match between him
(08:36):
and Robinson to start the tournament off. Potentially, if these
pseudo brackets are are correct, it can be super fun. Right,
Like those two guys won, Robinson is proving that he's
potentially going to be the guy for ends he state
going forward. You know, Robbie, maybe you have a little
bit more insight on that. Yeah, I think so too.
(08:58):
Right now, Yeah, we haven't we haven't seen any semblance
of anybody taking that from him the way he's looked
as he's undefeated. But that match with him and Navarro,
I think is gonna be gonna be really really fun.
But the the other guy that I have my eye on,
and maybe because I saw him throughout his high school careers,
Maximo Rentrea. Rentrea was obviously highly tied of recruit coming
(09:20):
out of high school and now he finds himself in
the lineup for Oregon State and he's he's a guy
that I feel can test a lot of these top guys,
and he's he's long, he's lanky, and he can definitely
give Caleb Smith maybe a little push because Caleb's on
(09:42):
the shorter end right, and it's it's a it's very
contrasting styles in that bout, So that could potentially be
a quarter if if you know, if seeds hold there,
I think that's a really fun match. And to go
back to Ramos, I think that people forget in quotes
how good he is because, like you guys said, like
(10:04):
at this point last year, he did have losses, and
one of those losses was to blaze a guy in
high school, you know, not his teammate, his teammates a little brother.
So I think that's why a lot of guys were
just like, man, I don't know how good he's going
to be. Obviously he picked it up later on in
the season, but you know, to to your point, Kevin,
(10:25):
he probably was wrestling tight, right, Like, there's a lot
of spotlight that's gonna be on you. One because he
came in as the number one rank guy in the preseason,
and two because he knocked off an absolute goliath in
Spencer Lease. Everybody's like, Okay, if that's what you get,
you can do to Spencer Lee, who's going for his
fourth what can you do to the rest of the field. Ultimately,
he didn't even win the title last year, but it
(10:46):
was just like, Okay, you know you're gonna you're gonna
wrestle a little bit freer, You're gonna come out and
you're actually gonna do something. And you know, I think,
to your point, Robbie or to your point, Kevin, he
did wrestle pretty tight. But this year, as you said,
he's looked phenomenal, just teching guys and just putting a
ton of points on the board. So I mean, as
much as I want to see Robinson get to the
(11:07):
final and wressell Caleb Smith because I think they have
very similar styles and and and they'll go at it.
I also think that if this goes chalk hell of
a match one versus two in this in this bracket,
I haven't.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
Seen enough of Caleb Smith this year to make too
much of a statement. But I mean, we know he's good,
but there's a lot of talent in this bracket, and
you know he's going to have to work his way
through some land mines to really show that he should
be the top seed here. I mean, nobody's saying anything
about Tanner, Jordan's having a great season, nobody's say anthing
about Sprattley, who's looked fantastic. I mean that's there's some
(11:43):
some real talent in this bracket, and it's going to
be this I think one twenty five. There's a couple
brackets one twenty five to one of them being one
that's really chock full of talented guys. That's going to
tell us a lot about what March is going to
look like. So we're going to learn a lot from
this bracket.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
It is probably not fair to to not give Tanner
Jordan a little bit more credit the jack Rabbits. You know,
he lost to Jory Volk, who technically he wasn't supposed
to lose to.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
And also that match didn't happen or count, so you know, like.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
But then Spratley, Spratley did beat Joy Volk in a
match that did count.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
Yes he did, Yes he did. So you know, it
is what it is. But Tanner Jordan is currently ranked
sixth in the country. He is really good. He could
absolutely go in there. He's he's shown he can beat
Spratley too. You know, he beats Spratley last year at
NCAA's in the Blood round, So I mean he's capable
of beating anybody out there too.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
Excellent on top.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
If guys are choosing bottom half hadedly because that's just
kind of what they're used to doing, it could be
a mistake.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
So he also just lost to Flynn though, like he
got handled by Cooper Flynn. So you know, how is
he going to bounce back it.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
On for that? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Really well, probably possible rabbits. Rabbits bounce back like that's
their thing.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
You know, though not back.
Speaker 4 (13:04):
Have you seen rabbit bounce back?
Speaker 3 (13:06):
I bet they can m.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
We'll certainly see. So who are we picking here? You
what are your guys picks here? At one hundred and
twenty five pounds.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
Well, that's a tough question.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
I'm gonna go Matt Ramos.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
I only asked the tough ones here.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
I will say to one thing I wanted to say
about Ramos and Smith that I thought was intriguing while
while kind of putting the right up together. So they
wrestle here, then they wrestle again the week before Big
Tens and the duels, you know as something. They both
wrestle that and then Big Ten, so they could potentially
wrestle three times before n C double As, which would
(13:48):
be awesome for everybody.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
I think certainly would. I'm taking Robinson. He's looked really
good this year, and you know I'm taking him. I
think the the other match I want to see him
in is against spratt Lee, because you know sprat Lee
Stratley's really good man and and and you know, I
(14:13):
think that under the tutelage of David Taylor, Spratley is
gonna do some some pretty cool things. And it's it's
gonna start this weekend, and you know, we'll we'll certainly
see what Oklahoma State, what kind of changes Oklahoma State
has made with the new coaching staff in a tournament
(14:33):
like this. But I'm gonna I'm gonna go with Robinson.
I'm riding the hot hand here to continue my my
gambling puns. I'm gonna I'm gonna let it ride on
Robinson here at one hundred and twenty five pounds.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
I'm gonna roll the dice and go with that as well.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
Oh snake, oh man.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
I do like him. I do like him coming out
of the bottom side. I think it's a good draft
for him. I think him and Ramos is gonna be
the hell of a match. But I like how we
matches up there top side. I think it a lot
of directions. I think I would see Cale Smith and
Eddie even Truscan in the semis on that side. I
don't know how that one goes. But Ventrusted will see
(15:16):
Spratley in two weeks in that duel, so we'll see
something there too. But I mean, Vince has looked fantastic
this year, and I think this is a setting for
him that that really sets up well. And I think
he's going to show some stuff this weekend.
Speaker 6 (15:31):
Yeah, I think I'm going to go with Claunch and
go at Ramos and and I just think Ramos is
he's wrestled well this year and I think he's ready
for a comeback here. And you know, we can't go
one twenty five and out mentioned who is not there
and Greg diakam hollis at Cornell. I mean we could
Cornell has a bunch of legit starters out. You know,
we could talk about that later. But you know, for
(15:53):
how crazy this bracket is, it could be a little
more crazier with a kind of like dyakamahwis in it,
unfortunately injured and not wrestling, but you know, it's one
of those things what could be.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
You know, well, it's going on in at the cut.
Speaker 6 (16:08):
Yeah, a lot a lot of injuries going up there,
injury bugs and second semester guys as well.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
And we just referenced him too, but Jory volcannother guy
who is gonna.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
Say vote not suck. Yeah, yeah, that sucks. But we're
still getting a hell of a tournament. And I know
we're we're mostly talking about the guys that are are
seated in the top five, and a lot of the
guys are in the top ten, in this bracket. But man,
(16:37):
it's it's tough to look outside of that and say
that there is anyone that could break into that. But
I think, I mean the guys in Northern and I
we are always ready to scrap. So Goalholfer might be
a guy that breaks up this, this bunch of top ten,
(17:00):
top twelve guys that are seated in this bracket.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
The biggest question I have there though, is will Doug
Schwab have any like Dice or Casino themed shirts to wear?
Speaker 1 (17:14):
I hope so, and I hope he has pants in
the match. I tried to get his wife to buy
him some matching pants and she she vetoed it immediately.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
Well, they have to buy toddler sizes? Do they have
those toddler sizes?
Speaker 6 (17:27):
Say it to his face, Robie.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
He is not a man that I would. Yeah, Nope,
Doug Schwab, Nope. I'm staying on that good side.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
One other name I will throw out there, and I
was going to try to keep this theme going in
honor of Vision Quest being available on Amazon Prime right now.
The Loud and Swaying Irrational Confidence Award for guy who
comes out of nowhere to do the unthinkable. Uh, Nolan
(17:58):
werton In from Michigan, and I'm gonna throw that out
there just because in the duel against Columbia, they didn't
wrestle Nolan. They wrestled Tanafeu who beat Suliman bah pretty handedly.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
And I mean it was an exciting match.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
There was a lot of scoring back and forth, but
it was it was a you know, pretty handled decision.
But I think wherton In probably is the guy that
they likely will go with for most of the year
and has the higher upside. So if he can go
out there and beat Ba who's ranked eleventh, then you
know he's right there on the door of that top
ten list.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
So I'm saying it right now that I want to
keep this this Loud and Swayin award going, So maybe
we we add it to the show week to week
of the Loud and Swain Irrational Confidence Award of the Week.
And that's where you're going with the first one. So
I like it, and let's move Yes, the it's the inaugural.
(18:54):
Let's move to thirty three, where it's definitely not as
shock full of big time matchups is twenty five. But
thirty three is still not going to disappoint whatsoever. And
I mean it's it's really really tough to bet against
(19:19):
Ragason here. It just is like, I don't I don't.
You know, you don't know what you're gonna get from
from vand who has had a pretty spotty start to
the year going oho and two on one day. You
know we've seen we've seen Frost so far. Well, actually no,
(19:43):
we haven't seen Frost so far. We're supposed to be
in the All Star Classic and was not at the
All Star Classics, so I'm sure what we're gonna get there,
But no, I I for me, it's tough to bet
against Ragason. I know we want to probably talk about
the entire bracket, but I'm making my pick right off
a jump, and it's it's Ragason for me.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
Well, assuming we get Van Dy and Ragason real quick.
The the I mean, Vandy kind of made his name
for himself by knocking off Ragason and that duel against
Nebraska that got away from Michigan real fast, so I'm sure.
Speaker 3 (20:15):
He's been excited to get that get that handled. So
we'll see how that goes.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
And you know, I'm not trying to take anything away
from Van Dy, who, like you said, I'm sure is
looking to rebound himself, but you know, I'll look to
see that one eight matchup, assuming Strickenberger doesn't take care
of business on his end.
Speaker 4 (20:39):
He's a big one. Tyler Knox has started off great.
He's five and zero so far, has wins over you know,
a couple of guys that are in the bracket. Romney
beat Drake Al and the duel looks fantastic there. This
is gonna be and it's kind of what I'll hit
on with a lot of the Standford guys. This is
going to be a real test for them to see
where they're at because they haven't seen, you know, outside
(21:03):
of Iowa, a lot of like competition that's been nationally shown,
so we haven't seen a lot of them. So I'm
interested to see how these guys look in the spotlight.
And Knox has been great so far, but he's going
to have you know, he'll have a tough test. I think,
you know, Ghost Chalk, he'll have Hunger in the in
the quarters, and I think that'll be a great measuring
(21:25):
stick to see where he's at.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
I think Knox is going to come out and probably
meet Ragason in the final. That that's my pick. I
think it's a one to three final.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
I agree. I think what I would see is I
think Witcraft beats Kleibo. If Frost isn't full strength, I
think Witcraft can beat him there. So I mean, I
could definitely see Knox making his way through, but I
think Hunger is going to be a pretty tough test,
so it's going to tell us a lot about where
he's at.
Speaker 6 (21:54):
Yeah, I agree, Ragasson and Knox probably the two finalists.
Just looking at Frost two seed having Kleeba most likely
or potentially in the quarter That was a four to
one match last year at NCAA's you know, so a
takedown match, so you know, Kleebo is kind of right
there with Frost. Frost ended up being all American different year,
(22:15):
I know, but you know it's I think Kleebo's kind
of right there. Just needs a little more offense, a
little more scoring, you know, kind of win those big ones.
But I'm always going to root for Hunting k Kid
no matter what. So maybe a little bit of Homer
picked there, but yeah, people could not get off. But
I still think Ragason and Knox with you know, the
two finalists with Ragason being you know, a decent favor here.
Speaker 4 (22:38):
Yeah, I was really impressed by by what I saw
from him and they were at at the uv A duel.
He looked fantastic, really quick, moving really well. I think
he's certainly one that that can be put in that
contender for the you know, top part of the podium
in March.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
The question mark for me is Nick Muzakis. Obviously the
early loss to his teammate. You're you're thinking, you know,
which guy is going to show up, right, Like we've
seen Nick Buzakis have amazing matches, and we've seen him
lose the guys that he shouldn't, and you know, you
(23:19):
you want to see consistency from Buzakis, especially being a
VET in the lineup now, you know, not being one
of the young guys so Zakus is. You know, it's
tough for me to see him make it out of
the quarters just based on kind of what we've seen
(23:40):
from him this year, just not not being as I guess,
high scoring, not to say that he's always high scoring,
but not to say he's you know, he's not as
offensive as normal, right, So I'd like to kind of
see him kind of get going a little bit more.
And obviously it is still early kind of. I mean
we're into the season. But if you're gonna, you know,
(24:02):
get that motor running, it's probably going to be best
that you do it here in Vegas.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
Well, it's a two day tournament. You're gonna have to
make weight again. It's that's gonna be the biggest.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
Concern for me.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
I you know, whenever there's been any issues or questions
around around him, it's it's, in my opinion, never been
about his talent or his ability. It's just about the
size he is and where he's wrestling, you know. So
and you know that's the that's the tough part about
Ohio state. You're in a room with hammers everywhere, and
you want to find your spot. Right It's I'm not
(24:39):
a lot of great sun in Ohio. Not that there
isn't Michigan for that matter too, there's a lot of snow.
But all that to be said, you know, beazaccas is
that that's gonna be an interesting thing I'm watching.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
And then Hunger.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
I don't know why I'm terrified of right Hunger right now,
but I I haven't seen him wrestle much this year
up a weight class. But I just I've seen him
be so good on top and shut people down. That's
that's a theme on Mole then keep bringing up too
is just like those dudes who are so good on top.
It just it can be so deflating to like not
only give up two minutes of riding time, but you know,
(25:13):
possibly give up even a quick two count on something,
and you're just like so mad at yourself and you're
trying to get your head in the game, and now
all of a sudden you're you know, having to figure
out what you're going to do in the third to
make up that difference.
Speaker 6 (25:24):
So and Hungers, he's really solid defensively, He's tough to
score on. Ever since he's moved up a way, at
least when I've seen him wrestle this year, he's been
a lot more offensive too. So you know, when that
offense starts clicking, you know, forces guys into bad positions,
which makes scoring easier defensively as well. Right, So yeah,
I think this would be a good showing for him
(25:44):
to prove that, you know, he's up at thirty three,
ready to go and ready to make that podium after
being run to twelve two years ago at one twenty five.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
We all taken Ragason here though, despite the fear of
Brett Hunger that that Kevin has were still taking Ragason.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
Yeah, I think so, I'm taking them.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
Yeah, really impressed with what he looked like a couple
of weeks ago.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
Speaking of Ohio State Hammers, we've got one sitting in
the top seed at one hundred and forty one pounds
in returning NCAA champion, Jesse Mendez, whose family is amazing
and they were absolutely hilarious last year in the uh
the interview room, came in just absolutely partying, partying when
he won his title. It was really really fun.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
That makes me so happy. It was.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
It was a good time. It was a good time.
It was I don't know whose family was more fun,
Jesse Mendez his family or or Keck Eisen's family. They
both came in and were just like having a time
of their lives in that in that room, and it
was it was pretty cool. It honestly made the interviews
so much better because they were laughing and joking and
(26:55):
just like partying in that room. But I mean, another
tough one to pick against the top seed in this
bracket of Mendes just based on how he's looked this year,
and but I'm I'm really anxious to see the potential
quarterfinal match with him and Latona. Latona looks enormous, by
(27:15):
the way, and maybe and well, I mean, maybe he
just had like a sandwich and just filled out to
his six foot thirteen frame and is now one hundred
and forty one pounds after having to stay small for
so many years. You know how that works for a
lot of guys are just like I have a leaf
(27:36):
of lettuce to make one twenty five or to make
one thirty three, and you know, now they're they're actually
feeding him and now he's a he's a full sized
human at one hundred and forty one pounds. But no,
I think that is going to be a very good match.
And I think this one could honestly go potentially go
chalk until we get to the final, which case I
(28:00):
have another one versus three matchup for me in the final.
What are your guys' thoughts here?
Speaker 3 (28:09):
Mendez has looked.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
It's so rare that you have an instance where a
guy wins a national title and comes back ranked second,
and you can you get that thing where a guy's
already the best, and then all of a sudden someone's
telling him he's not that good again, and then they're remotivated.
You know, I love just applying narratives to people and
things that I've never talked to him. That's not what
(28:32):
he's doing. But anyway, it's he's looked so good. He's
looked so good, so I'm excited to see what he's
gonna do. I mean, obviously, my my Sergio Lemley fandom
here is is strong to quite strong.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
And I just want to see that match up more
than anything.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
I feel like, you know, the in the duel, I
didn't get it last year at Big Ten's.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
It didn't happen.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
I feel like there was somewhere else it was possibly
gonna happen, and then it didn't.
Speaker 3 (29:02):
And you know, i'd like to see that match.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
So I hope that they can take care of business
and we can we can get what I want to
see there.
Speaker 6 (29:09):
So i'd like Coderhan the quarters though potentially I think that'll.
Speaker 4 (29:14):
Be that top side of that bracket is loaded.
Speaker 6 (29:16):
Yeah, that'll be fun.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
Yeah, yeah, which fatch sorry.
Speaker 6 (29:19):
Coder Hunt and Lemley four or five quarters? Yeah, quarter
hunts loan loss this year was to Hardy, you know,
a higher ranked guy. So quarter hunt's been looking good obviously, Lemley,
you know, your president of the fan club. He's been
very good, you know. So I think that'll be a
good quarterfinal match. And whoever win's at just got to
have run to a bus. Saul and Mendes there. So yeah, yeah,
(29:40):
like probably said, top half of that bracket looks good.
Speaker 4 (29:44):
Well, it was going to be interesting to see Mendez
and Latona both are pretty tall, lanky guys at the
weight and so it's gonna be a fun matchup. But
I mean, Hayden Drury's had a good year too, He's
looked solid. So that's not going to be an easy
match for Latona there you can get through.
Speaker 6 (30:01):
Isn't he like six foot tall two?
Speaker 4 (30:03):
Yeah, he's not wrestling.
Speaker 6 (30:04):
He's going to be like Gumby's wrestling. I feel like, well, and.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
I'm very serious when I say Latona is like six
' four. It's blows my mind that dude has ever
made one twenty five and eleven year olds one fifty
and he's not nearly that dull. It's crazy.
Speaker 6 (30:24):
Yeah, ky Owen's at least five to eleven five ten.
He's he's pretty pretty tall guy five to ten.
Speaker 4 (30:29):
Yep, we don't have the other Kai in the bracket.
Uh Marine is sat there, which is upsetting.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
Why have you found out?
Speaker 4 (30:37):
Why because he cut his hair? No, not really, he's
just kind of limited pitch counts his six year They
just want to make sure he's ready for for the
matches that are important.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
Oh he's old.
Speaker 4 (30:51):
Yeah, yeah, he's not old.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
It's like when Tim duncan his head like out just
on the.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
Yeah, he's just old. That's it. That's that's that's all
it is. He's just old and they have to make
sure that he doesn't break a hip.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
Yeah. Yeah, he does look much better without that moment though,
So I'll give him that.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
I completely forgot that he was a six year guy honestly. Yeah,
but yeah, yeah, I mean makes sense, but it sucks, right,
Like you want to see him in this environment, and
I mean, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna barb it
for me to try to tell Pep Pop how to
(31:33):
do things, but I would love to see him here
as a simulation of the end of the year in
a new weight class, and yeah, take off a duel
here there right, like you you have back to back duels,
take off those two days instead, you know, get get
the preseason NCAA Championship grind in of making weight two
(31:56):
days back to back and wrestling a ton of hammers.
And you know, I think if he's in the racket,
he's at least a five seed, even in this new
weight class. So that would certainly change things here at
one one. But like, man, it is, it is upsetting
to look at the list of guys that are not
(32:19):
are not here and you're just like shit, these are
these are some serious game changers. I mean most of
them are coming from from Cornell and which sucks, but
is what it is.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
We should point out. I mean, we haven't talked about
Tagan Jamison yet. I think, what did he entered NCAA's
last year with like three losses or something like he
was awesome, He's looked good. Jordan Titus West Virginia was
it last.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
Year he lived out there?
Speaker 2 (32:49):
Jones Tilt and everybody at Midlands or something or you know,
one of those tournaments. So like, once again, if people
aren't paying attention to what that guy's gonna do, he's
gonna get you. You know, so all of a sudden,
you're in deep on a shot and now you're down
six nothing, right, So there's there's a lot of talent
and a lot of I mean, this is where this
(33:10):
is the tournament where at the end of it, you're like, oh,
that person went from you know, being seated seventh at
Cliff Keen Las Vegas, Can you believe it? And then
you know they're seated seventh at NC double A's right
or higher. So this is this is a good way
for us to figure out, you know, who's going to
be what they're going to look like at the end
of the year.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
Yeah, forty one is is tough. It's another one that
it's to me, it resembles one twenty five a bit
where you do have a lot of podium caliber guys
that we could see at the end of the year
back on the podium again. I mean, obviously the national,
the return national champion is here in this weight class,
and he's a buzzsle and it is not going to
(33:52):
be easy for anyone at any point against him. And
like I said, I think that kale Happle comes out
of the bottom half of the bracket beats brock Hardy
in a close one. Another old guy that we're seeing
in this bracket, who I believe has two years left
(34:12):
of eailtability.
Speaker 4 (34:13):
If I'm yeah, that sounds.
Speaker 1 (34:16):
It's I think it's two. But I think kale Happle
makes the final. But ultimately it's Mendez's world. He may
not be the number one rank guy in the country,
but it's it's tough to bet against him at any point,
including at NCAA's this year.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
I'm looking at the bottom of this and there's a
lot of really good unseated, you know, not top twelve
guys in here. Mm hmm, Kenzie Bell of Ryder, Jacob
Frozt Iowa State. This is a little inside baseball, But
what is the yellow on your tabs here?
Speaker 1 (34:57):
I mean I did not do that. I think that
might have been early in here.
Speaker 6 (35:00):
Okay, actually that that was me. How guys that yeah.
Speaker 4 (35:07):
Like, yeah, Valencia is in. That's a yeah, Valentia is
he's going to be one to keep an eye on. Yeah,
the way he looked in the duels they put him in.
Speaker 6 (35:18):
Yeah, pretty not even in the rankings either. It's Miranda
in the rankings, So I don't know if that's technically
so Red Shirt yeah, so in ye end, like Josh
Sawnders filling in for Cornella. I mean, Sauners is really
good in high school, great blue chip recruit. Hasn't you
know made the lineup, so you know, this could be
a chance to really shine at a weight class. At
one he was always kind of in between her, hopefully
(35:41):
his weights under control, and you know he could be
a guy that could side in there on on that podium.
And then Cornell has, you know, two guys deep at
one forty one. You know that's a good problem to have.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
Usually.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
How you guys feeling about Julian Tag at South Dakota State.
That's it. I honestly did not realize that he was
at South Dakota State until I want to say, maybe
like the opening weekend where somebody somebody texted and we're like,
wellly sh had Julian Tags, it's South Dakota State. Like I.
Speaker 3 (36:11):
Helps, yeah, right, he's gonna bounce back just to show Robbie.
Speaker 1 (36:16):
I mean he was, he was very good. Were they
both were, were both him and his brother at U
n C. I know one of them was at U
n C at one at one point. I don't know
if they were both there.
Speaker 4 (36:29):
I don't think they both were.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
I think one of one of them was definitely there,
might have been him, might have been Julian, but no,
it just when it popped up, I was like, I
wondered what had happened to him because I know he
you know, him and his brother out of high school
went to the went to the RTC or went to
the OTC and we're doing that plan and then ended
(36:52):
up you know, one of them was at at North
Carolina for at least a year.
Speaker 4 (36:57):
That was he was there, they both.
Speaker 6 (37:02):
Yeah, yeah, he's on the wrestle status in twenty twenty one.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
Yeah, I thought they were both there for for short stint,
but I didn't realize where they went, and I don't
I don't think Gabe is anywhere right now. Good to
see that Julian is sticking with it. But yeah, I'm
interested to see how he looks because, as I said,
haven't seen him wrestle in quite a while, so that'll
(37:27):
be that'll be interesting to see. But yeah, I mean
there there are a good amount of guys that could
kind of upset the apple cart here with with Valencia.
Saunders always a solid guy, so we'll certainly we'll certainly see.
But yeah, I I like that that Aiden Valencia call
(37:48):
out from you, Austin, because we've seen him do some
things before being on the college ranks, and he's certainly
a youngster to keep your eye on.
Speaker 6 (38:00):
Yeah, and tag just his last two matches looking at
Russell stat here for one loss to Apple and eight
three loss to Vombauer. So he's kind of been in
these matches with these highly ranked guys. So you know
that's another guy I think to look out for here.
Speaker 4 (38:14):
Yeah, certainly he has when he pins Zach Redding and
he beat writer Block by five, so like that's a
they put him in that that trip to Iowa and
he had a had a heck of a weekend.
Speaker 1 (38:28):
Could be making some noise this weekend up to one.
This is another one of those weights and then we're
probably answer a ton of times. Next question where I'm
not I'm not disagreeing. I'm not disagreeing that the answer
is Caleb Henson. However, Atcha Mendiaz is a problem.
Speaker 3 (38:55):
He is.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
And I say that because I've seen him go upper
body with guys and just run through them, and he's
got deceptive strength. And this was down weight classes last
year now being up up at one forty nine could
be a little bit different, right, So we'll certainly see.
But then also Ridge love it with a chip on
his shoulder of not getting what he wanted last year?
Speaker 4 (39:19):
Is it a heart shaped chip?
Speaker 1 (39:21):
It probably is. It probably comes with some love, but
it probably comes with a little bit of hate as well.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
It's like a spicy gerrito.
Speaker 6 (39:30):
Yeah, those are good.
Speaker 3 (39:32):
Those are good.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
So what are what are our thoughts on one? I
don't know who I'm picking just yet. Yeah, probably question everyone,
but Robbie can probably convince me to change my mind
because Robby is an ACC homer.
Speaker 4 (39:51):
No, Henson looks fucking fantastic. He's uh. I would not
want to wrestle him right now, and I I probably
have one hundred pounds on him.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
He wouldn't want to wrestle him if he had a
broken leg.
Speaker 4 (40:04):
No, he scares me. He's I mean, it's a super
sweet kid. But he's on another level right now. And
I mean his losses last year were at this tournament
to Ridge in a really weird overtime match and then
in a on a weird call in the ACC finals.
Those were his two losses.
Speaker 2 (40:21):
I I gotta I gotta push back because you keep
saying it that way.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
And I watched that match. It wasn't that weird. It
was pretty regular match. It was a close call, but
that call gets made a lot.
Speaker 6 (40:31):
M I don't know, probably you might be a little
we don't know.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
Yeah, well, now I have to pick Ridge just to
make that argument to do this stuff.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
I'm not saying I wasn't gonna do that anyway, but no,
I mean I would like to see Ridge have that
bounce back year and have the opportunity to eventually get
the NCAA title. That that you know, he was pretty
much slated for most of last year, and you know
deservedly so he'd beaten every but he got put in
front of him.
Speaker 1 (41:02):
But I don't know.
Speaker 2 (41:04):
My only other regret from from nc double As was
watching Edgrimondia do like flips and backflips and cartwheels and
like double black flips and everything.
Speaker 3 (41:15):
It went on. It was I was like mesmerized, and
I didn't.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
Get any video and by the time I got my
phone out, this went on for like five minutes.
Speaker 1 (41:22):
I was standing next to you while this was happening.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
I was like, did anyone else just see that? Like
am I hallucinating. This is a long tournament, but like,
still that was amazing and this was.
Speaker 1 (41:31):
And he went out and lost.
Speaker 4 (41:33):
Yeah, he's too much energy doing backflips.
Speaker 1 (41:36):
Yeah, Kevin was so he was so mess but he
was like he's going to run through, Like, look at
the athleticism. He's jazzed up. And then he went out
and lost.
Speaker 3 (41:44):
I in all fair andess we lost the real Woods.
I think that was his next match, you know, but yeah,
but no, it was. He's awesome.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
Everything about him that we've seen is true, and if
he can put it all together, he's as good as
it gets. I think after those three, you know, it
kind of drops off a little bit.
Speaker 3 (42:07):
But you know what else I want to see.
Speaker 2 (42:11):
I want to see Sammy Alvarez, Russell Carter Young teammates
from last year.
Speaker 3 (42:16):
I don't know what we need to.
Speaker 2 (42:17):
Happen in order for those brack up or brackets to
work out that way, but you.
Speaker 1 (42:21):
Know, somewhere on the backside probably it's it's either a
final or somewhere on the backside.
Speaker 3 (42:28):
Yeah, make it. Let's make it happen.
Speaker 4 (42:31):
So I am really interested to see how Avis looks,
because he hasn't looked fantastic so far to start the year.
So him pulling a four seat is interesting because that's
clearly based on previous results and not how he's looks
so far this year. So he's gonna have a tough
test either way of Robuto or Business are both great,
So that's gonna be a tough route for him. I'd
(42:54):
like to see him bounce back. I'd like to see
him back and form, but we haven't seen that this year.
So because a lot of the same for you guys,
it's going to be kind of the same thing. It's
going to see, you know, where where are they really at?
So but I would love to see if we can
have a Henson Love It Final. I'll be I'll be happy.
Speaker 6 (43:12):
Yeah, I mean I'm I might be more excited for
Love It at CI Mendia semi final and then winner
of that will get Henson. Guys, just saying at Menda
love It two contrasting styles, you know, just it's always
interesting how those match up. Love It can kind of
catch it and moves Crazia from kind of anywhere, and
you know, Chimendia, like you said, upper body stuff run
through with love It and maybe love It rolls through
(43:34):
them and puts some of his back. You know, it
could be a fireworks match. But I just think Henson
is too good right now. Just seeing him at Keystone Classic.
You know, granted competition wasn't great for him, but I
just it's I don't see anyone scoring on him. He
was just in solid position all the time, really good.
Speaker 4 (43:51):
Playing with people. And give him his like like he
was a high school kid.
Speaker 6 (43:54):
Come on, yeah he was. Yeah, he was another place
where these guys, and these guys are pretty high level.
Do you want athletes, but not to the competition of this,
but it had to just he just looks really, really good.
It's gonna be hard to beat him.
Speaker 2 (44:07):
Remember Love It Love It was never afraid to go
upper body with with Austin Gomez either, right, and usually
got the better of those exchanges, or at least.
Speaker 4 (44:16):
I wouldn't mess around with love of upper body.
Speaker 1 (44:18):
No, these guys are gamers. They're they're for real gamers.
The the other the other guy that I'm interested in
seeing is is Jesse Vasquez, and it's because he's had
a very injury plagued career so far. Had a terrible
was that hamstring injury the one year and then last year. Yeah,
(44:42):
like just horrible injury after injury. He probably has like
five years left with all these medicals that he's probably
able to take at this point, and he he has.
He had a serious upside too, Like everyone was really
excited to see what he was going to do on
the college ranks and it's just been injury plagued. So
(45:04):
I would really like to see what he's got. A
match with him in Etchi Mendia could be really fun,
just based on the fact that Basquez doesn't really have
much to lose. He's got everything to gain from winning
a match like that. Etchi Mendia probably a little bit
more to lose than anything, being in the spot that
he's in. So just you know, just like Abbas wanting
(45:27):
to see Abbas bounce back from the kind of down
start of the season, I want to see how Basquez
does being back from back to back years of just
plague laguing injuries. And because he can score, and we've
seen him score, we've seen him be the dynamic guy.
And you know, maybe I'm going back too far to
his high school days, but he was a force and
(45:49):
he was a guy that everybody was expecting to do
some damage and I really want to see how he
how he does in this tournament. But I'm taking love It.
It's tough to for me to bet against Bridge love
it because I'm a Nebraska homer. Go fear go figure
(46:09):
just how I feel. So yeah, Ridge love It over
Henson in the final by one point.
Speaker 3 (46:17):
I'll take that as well.
Speaker 2 (46:19):
I also want to shout out Michigan's got Cameron Cattrabone
in there. His dad wrestled at Michigan.
Speaker 6 (46:26):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (46:27):
Cattra Bone is just a badass last name, and I
think Cams just looks pretty good this this season so far.
Speaker 3 (46:33):
I also want to shout out Jagger French from cal
Poly just because this bracket.
Speaker 2 (46:39):
Yeah, I picture Jagger. Shout out to Jagger real quick.
But like if he's French, he's gonna have the cigarette
with like the long cigarette, goofy mustache. Yeah, so that's
that's what I picture, probably not, probably not what he
looks like.
Speaker 4 (46:57):
I kind of hope it is.
Speaker 2 (47:00):
He's got a beret, rides rides in on a bike
with a bread loaf of bread and sticking out of
the front basket.
Speaker 6 (47:07):
With a goofy ass hat. French hatt.
Speaker 1 (47:12):
Austin, who did you pick.
Speaker 3 (47:15):
Go?
Speaker 1 (47:17):
I took Henson Henson, so t that's the correct answer.
Two Henson's and two love it. We'll see who's right.
At the end of the end of this, we'll come
back to our picks and see see how how well
we did. But let's move to to one fifty seven.
(47:37):
And I don't know, man, this is this is kind
of tough because the guy I want to pick doesn't
have the easiest the easiest go and that's Paniro Johnson,
and he's going to have to get through styles. And
then you know Patty Gallagher and then obviously Entrel Taylor,
(47:59):
who I love that match. Taylor versus versus Johnson will
be the winner of this bracket. That's what That's what
I think. Whoever wins between the one versus five seed
will be the winner of this one. Yeah, sorry, Robbie,
I can't pick. I can't pick ed Scott just yet.
Speaker 4 (48:20):
You're good. I'm not picking him to win it. I
ain't picking him to get there though. Oh I think
him and him and Peyton Keller will be a really
fun matchup. But I think I don't know. It's it's
always tough with that because he can beat anybody, but
he loses weird matches.
Speaker 1 (48:36):
So did he lose the t Travis last year? Yes,
during the duel, Yes, I believe so yeah, yeah, I thought.
Speaker 2 (48:45):
So ya, this is my favorite weight by far. I
love one.
Speaker 3 (48:54):
It's it's just loaded. I mean, Taylor should be the
one seed. He's awesome. Peyton Keller is I mean, I I.
Speaker 2 (49:00):
Think it was a week or so ago I talked
about him, and he's just he's unbelievable on top. Even
when he gets taken down, he usually gets a reversal
and then ends there on the you know, ends the
period on top. If not getting back points. He just
he continuously beats people that he gets taken down by.
And that's a really good thing to be able to
do at this level.
Speaker 1 (49:19):
So you're saying he should start down three to zero.
Speaker 3 (49:22):
Yeah, I mean, well, you know, just like I'm just
you didn't get on the mat.
Speaker 6 (49:25):
Let's go old strategy, but it works.
Speaker 3 (49:28):
Yeah, yeah, you'd figure it out, man.
Speaker 4 (49:30):
Like those jiu jitsu guys just fall to their back.
Speaker 1 (49:33):
Yeah, unless you're Hippolito and you're throwing guys to their back.
Speaker 4 (49:36):
Hey don't you can't. You can't say his name yet
because he's not seated.
Speaker 1 (49:40):
Well, which is which is wild.
Speaker 3 (49:43):
That's the thing.
Speaker 2 (49:44):
I mean, we're looking at all these these these names
that aren't even seated here. I mean literally, I could
talk to you about, you know, Joey Blaze beating Ed
Scott last year. I could talk to you about Saldate
you know, almost beaten Peyton Keller at MSU open and
and that's those are the eight nine seeds, right Uh.
Kobe Sebrick who we're talking about, Chips on the shoulder.
(50:04):
That dude's like, sweet, all right, is this what we're doing.
I'm going to go to South Dakota State and we're
gonna have some fun, you know. So yeah, and I'm
not even getting the dudes that that aren't even seated.
I mean, this is gonna be a blood bath, but
in like the fun way.
Speaker 4 (50:23):
A lot of these guys are so wide open too
that there could be just some banana stuff happening.
Speaker 3 (50:29):
M hm.
Speaker 4 (50:30):
I mean Chilackean and Hippolyto both you know, high high
outflut guys from the ACC who aren't seated. We're going
to be looking to knock off some of these, some
of the seated guys, and I I haven't picked against
Hippolyto yet this year, and I don't I don't plan
on doing it anytime soon.
Speaker 1 (50:47):
So so you're taking unseated Hippolyto.
Speaker 4 (50:52):
I don't know if I go that far yet.
Speaker 3 (50:54):
You said you.
Speaker 1 (50:55):
Weren't picking against them.
Speaker 4 (50:56):
Okay, I'll take it.
Speaker 6 (50:57):
I'll put it.
Speaker 2 (51:00):
Somebody ranked, though, is going to mess around and go
oh and two, and it's going to be completely justifiable,
you know, Like that's how ridiculous this is.
Speaker 1 (51:09):
I mean, I don't see Hippolito placing high on the
podium as like something crazy though, right, Like I really,
I really truly don't. I just think that this is
going to be as as it is for everyone. But
this is going to be a serious test for him,
Like we've seen we've seen his his style, right, and
(51:29):
how he's coming into his own with the you know,
with the leverage and the throws and stepping over and
just all the things that he's done.
Speaker 4 (51:37):
These are a lot of together for two days.
Speaker 1 (51:40):
Yes, Like these are a lot of very disciplined guys
that don't fall for all those same tricks. And he's
going to have to wrestle in a phone booth for
a little bit, or if he is to hit an
Arell Taylor, he's going to have to wrestle from space,
which probably won't be fun for a guy like Hippolyto,
(52:03):
who's very good with hand movement and hand placement and leverage.
Angel Taylor doesn't really wrestle from from a tie. He's
a he's not a phone booth type of wrestler. He's
a wrestler from space kind of a guy.
Speaker 4 (52:15):
And you know, this is what happened since we just
got to cell phones. We've lost the phone booth wrestlers.
Speaker 1 (52:21):
We've lost them all. We're a we are a wireless
bunch now, my.
Speaker 3 (52:24):
Friend, and now we're speaking emojis.
Speaker 1 (52:27):
Now we're speak We'll get there though, we will get there.
But no, like I said, I think that it's as
much as I feel like Hippolyto can do crazy other
worldly things. He could also go zero to two, right like,
because of his style, right like, he's a side saddle
(52:51):
riding type guy, and he's gonna shoot from his hip.
Speaker 4 (52:54):
And I think cowboy references.
Speaker 1 (52:57):
Listen, I could do a couple of things here. And
that's all for you, wyoming cowboy. I know, I know
exactly where you're from. So no, I honestly think that
like just because of his style, right, like he might
go to that well a little bit too much because
he hasn't had to, like I said, wrestle in a
phone booth. Yet in all the matches we saw him
(53:18):
wrestling in last year, he was able to go crazy
high flyer type stuff, even if even if he lost.
I just think that these guys might have, you know,
guys like Taylor, guys like Ed Scott, these guys might
be able to do something where his leverage can be
used against him. That's my only thought.
Speaker 4 (53:37):
Yeah, and I don't disagree. And I think this is
kind of the test that you know, if Virginia Tech
wants to be a podium team, they're gonna need points
from him in March, so they're gonna need him to
put together a two day tournament. And this is gonna
be a big test for him. He hasn't wrestled for
that long. He hasn't had to. You started wrestling his
sophomore year in high school and it was in Virginia
(53:57):
And we're not that great of the wrestle state, so
that rob look all nineteen classes we have, But I mean.
Speaker 1 (54:09):
Nineteen classes seven seven. It's disgusting.
Speaker 3 (54:14):
I agreed.
Speaker 4 (54:15):
Yeah, it makes Yeah, it makes you want to hit
your head on things. It's that's a whole different discussion.
But I mean, realistically, this is his first real test
as a tournament. So being able to put that together
two days of weight management, seeing you know, high level
guys back to back matches with not a lot of
time in between, it's going to be a huge test.
But like I said, they're going to need him to
(54:37):
be able to navigate that come March. So this is
going to be important to see where he's at in
his development.
Speaker 1 (54:43):
Agreed.
Speaker 6 (54:44):
Yeah, there's like five or six guys in the rankings
that aren't seated here, and you know, going down the list,
you know, Jimmy Harrington just beat at Scott a few
weeks ago at Journey. You know, so that's a guy
from Harvard to look out for. And Jared Hill Wyoming
ranked and wish Levski from Ryder. You know, these are
all guys that if they get drawn into a you know,
just saying seven, eight, nine, ten seed, you know you
(55:06):
might see an upset first round with some of these guys.
You know, these guys that you know are are seated,
They're gonna have to be ready for to get drawn
in with some of some of these rank guys that
are unseated. It's gonna be a fun, a really fun bracket.
Speaker 4 (55:19):
I think it's gonna be one of those you don't
want to miss the opening round. There's there's some weights
where the opening round is gonna be pretty boring and
pretty chalk. I don't see this one going chalk.
Speaker 3 (55:29):
I agree.
Speaker 4 (55:31):
Yeah, the the unseeded guys at this weight are are
very talented and very dangerous.
Speaker 3 (55:38):
Go be seated next year.
Speaker 4 (55:40):
Yeah. Also, never thought I would see a guy named
Sassa Goavronsky in West Virginia.
Speaker 1 (55:45):
Yeah, hey, listen you they heard he heard take me home,
and he was like, all right, I'm good. Little country
roads get you. We'll get your West Virginia pretty quickly.
Speaker 6 (56:01):
Sorry, we'll actually get you.
Speaker 4 (56:03):
To Virginia if you follow the directions. But that's another
conversation too.
Speaker 1 (56:09):
Don't do that. There's too many, too many West Virginia
friends of mine that would be really really upset with you.
Speaker 4 (56:14):
Right now, tell the mill where the Shenandoah River is
in West Virginia.
Speaker 3 (56:20):
Sasha is so man right now?
Speaker 1 (56:25):
Uh no. I I have a friend that ended up
at Iowa State thinking it was Iowa. We'll get to
that later, but uh, who are we picking? I'm I'm
I'm taking the demand from Iowa State. Give me gimme
paniro here at one hundred and fifty seven pounds. As
I said, I think the winner of this bracket will
(56:46):
come from that one versus one versus five match. But
I'm taking Johnson.
Speaker 6 (56:54):
I'm goal on someone we haven't really talked much about.
I'm gonna take righter Downy I want, I think on Iowa. Uh,
they're due for at least one champ but kak Kaisen
obviously it might be a favorite. But I like I
like writer down he too. Didn't he have his coming
out at this event last year? Am I thinking of
someone else?
Speaker 1 (57:13):
I do not remember?
Speaker 6 (57:15):
I thought I thought he kind of came out out
of nowhere at this event last year, But I could
be wrong.
Speaker 3 (57:20):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (57:20):
Another guy not to be overlooked is Trevor Trumley as well.
I meant to mention him before he's he's a six seed,
very good, very good from Northwestern. And speaking of which that,
I think we skipped over it at forty one Cannon
is not in the bracket, so we don't we don't
have any Chris Cannon from Northwestern in the bracket. That
(57:41):
was one that I that I missed. But at fifty seven,
Trevor Trumley is a guy not to be not another
guy not to be overlooked. So yeah, this is certainly
a bracket that you don't want to miss, even the
first round. But I'm taking Panero Johnson.
Speaker 4 (57:58):
I think this this brack it blows up kind of
all over the place. I think I'm gonna take Peyton
Keller to come out of the bottom.
Speaker 3 (58:10):
Dude, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (58:13):
Yeah, it's a weird one.
Speaker 1 (58:14):
That is.
Speaker 2 (58:15):
I think in my heart of hearts that I think
Andrell Taylor wins it because I do think he's that
good and and I it just it's crazy to me
that he was an All American at one sixty five
and that was undersized, right, So I just keep going
back to that and it's like, well, this is the
way he's supposed to be at and he's already this good.
(58:36):
Like Okay, I can't I'll go with that call with
Arell Taylor, But watch out for Joey Blaze.
Speaker 3 (58:46):
On something that happens.
Speaker 1 (58:48):
I mean, somebody's got to take the top seed, right like.
It's not like it's a crazy pick, right like. And
it's not like we couldn't see this going chalk completely,
but it's very There's a lot of very high caliber
guys in this weight class that you can see just
like blowing up the bracket.
Speaker 4 (59:07):
Styles could make a run. He's looked fantastic.
Speaker 2 (59:10):
You can see Saldotte Keller finals or something like that,
Saldote Downy finals, right So, I don't know, it's gonna
be wild.
Speaker 3 (59:19):
I'm excited a winner the fans.
Speaker 1 (59:23):
Winners are the fans agreed one sixty five. I'm going
to be a homer at sixty five. Just just letting
you guys know right now. But pretty I'm I'm excited.
After everything that I've heard from Kevin about Brock Mantonona,
I am excited to see Rock Mantonona wrestle in this
(59:48):
weight class.
Speaker 4 (59:50):
I was shocked how he took Hamilton out. He looked fantastic.
The kid's movement was amazing. His his shrugs are scary good.
He's gonna be He's gonna be problems. And you know
(01:00:11):
from a nine seed, that's a that's a heck of
a spot. He's he's gonna be real good.
Speaker 3 (01:00:19):
He makes it look so easy.
Speaker 2 (01:00:21):
Yeah, he makes it look and and you know, the
match of referencing was against Nick Hamilton or Virginia, who
was the ACC champ last year and I think ranked
like ten or twelfth at the time.
Speaker 3 (01:00:32):
Yeah, n major decision, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:00:36):
And again if you if you've seen Hamilton wrestle, he's
solid positions, solid movement, setups, real tough to score on,
just all around well put together wrestler. And yeah, I mean,
well we'll see what he ends up doing here. Him
being Mantonona, I think he plays his higher than ninth.
Speaker 4 (01:00:57):
I mean, I don't mean I wouldn't be shocked to
see beat Hayden Hall. I mean that he looks really,
really good, you know. Caveat to that. I've not seen
Peyton Hall Russell this year, so I don't. I mean,
I've seen him Russell in the past and he's good.
Clearly he's one seed for a reason, but I haven't
seen any.
Speaker 6 (01:01:14):
Matches this year of his.
Speaker 3 (01:01:16):
So just to.
Speaker 2 (01:01:20):
This is, I think there there are you gonna get
on the podium this year tournament for Rock. I mean
they're running out of dates for him.
Speaker 3 (01:01:27):
I think they can probably five dates, so this would
be easy.
Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
So, I mean, they're still gonna have he had Columbia,
he had Virginia. I think those are the only two.
I thought he had another duel too, I don't I
don't recall if if he did that, those those are
the two I can think of. But yeah, this is
either three or four for him. So as a result,
I mean, they're they're gonna see how this goes and
(01:01:52):
and make a decision from there.
Speaker 3 (01:01:56):
I mean, if I'm gonna do it earlier, I have
to do it again, right.
Speaker 2 (01:01:58):
If we're gonna you know, would be interesting to see
at some point, becam I meine Rock Mantonona matchup?
Speaker 3 (01:02:04):
If that weren't to happen.
Speaker 2 (01:02:05):
I can't shout it out at forty nine and ignore
it here.
Speaker 3 (01:02:10):
So there's that possibility.
Speaker 1 (01:02:14):
A mean's got a really salty first round match with
Bubba Wilson. Potential first round.
Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
Yeah, it's it's gonna be It's gonna be tough, man.
I mean, this isn't quite as deep as as some
of the other ones, as far as like the unseated guys,
but you've still got some guys in there too. I mean,
I'm a big fan of Stony Buell on what he
really awesome name. Yeah, I remember he was one of
those guys who in high school was like wrestling at
(01:02:42):
like one eighty nine and then he gets to college
and it's like one sixty five. Like sweet, I wish
that was my problem. I was just too big and
strong for the heavier kids.
Speaker 3 (01:02:55):
But no, I don't know. I think it's gonna be.
I think the big thing, and I know you're you're
kind of referring to it. I think you are.
Speaker 2 (01:03:01):
Holmes is Sammy Sasso coming back, And I think we
all can safely say that we'd like to see him
be able to wrestle strong and consistently through a tournament
that's this tough two days and have that, you know,
be the positive result we want to see.
Speaker 3 (01:03:18):
So yeah, that's that's the last point I want to make,
and I'll shut up.
Speaker 1 (01:03:21):
No, I mean that that is exactly the person that
I will have circled on every single bracket this entire year.
And it is, you know, full disclosure, Homer Pick love
the kid, and it is not just because of his wrestling.
Speaker 3 (01:03:39):
Right, but.
Speaker 1 (01:03:42):
The three seed, the guy right behind him, Barah Claud.
This is going to be the tournament where we're like, okay,
we always said he was all American worthy. He's obviously
already looking that part already, as he's the face of
UVU right now. This is where that train will continue
(01:04:03):
to stay on the track or at least pick up
even more steam if he's going to come away with
this one. I would not be shocked whatsoever to see
him win this bracket because of how he's wrestling this year.
But man, it's it's going to be fun to see,
as I said Rock Mantonona, to see if this is
(01:04:25):
you know, the litmus test of can you get on
the podium? Do you make a stronger type of a thing?
Not to say that he's a hole in the lineup,
but it's do you continue kind of kind of a
year for him with how he's wrestling right now. But
then also, you know, Baraclau, just seeing what if he
continues to put it together and if he really truly
(01:04:45):
is the guy that everybody thought that he was when
he was at Penn State as he continues to be now.
But yeah, with that said, I am picking Sammy Sasso
to win and that's because I want to see him win,
and like I said, all cards on the table, and
it has everything to do with everything surrounding Sammy Sasso,
(01:05:07):
because I love the kid to death. But it would
just I think it would be good for the weight
class if we saw him wrestling strong at at one
sixty five, feeling healthy and feeling good, not just because
it's a feel good story, but because he would seriously
make this make the bracketed ncaaa's even stronger if he
(01:05:31):
was a Sammy Sasso like force that we've seen him
be in the past.
Speaker 2 (01:05:37):
I remember the point that I almost wrote about and
then I was like, it'll be easier to stay on
the podcast, so I'll just do it that way. But
I don't think that they would put Sammy in this
environment right now without knowing that you got to get
through this to be.
Speaker 3 (01:05:52):
Ready in March.
Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
You know, agreed, and you need to be prepared and
we're and you're ready, right and if you're not, we'll
find that out too. Right, There's no negatives that can
come from this. It's just look, let's let's see where
we're at here. And I think that this is the
best time of year to kind of get that done,
right you. I'm sure they're saying, go win it all, right,
go do your thing, But there's a level of reasonability
(01:06:16):
with how tough d one wrestling is, and especially at
this weight historically.
Speaker 3 (01:06:20):
So but yeah, they wouldn't put him out here if
he wasn't ready.
Speaker 6 (01:06:23):
Yeah, that's a good point too. They wouldn't go have
him go out there like it was an open and
win two matches in medical forfeit, right, you don't. You
don't do that in Vegas unless you're legit hurt. So yeah,
that's a good point. I think Sasa is ready to go.
But you know, my my pick is probably be Barra Claw.
I'm going to be riding that train until proven otherwise
because he's being guys thrown in front of him, he's
(01:06:44):
being all Americans. It's it's going to be a good
quarter with either a Mean or Wilson, whoever wins that
first round matchup. You know that's going to be a
heck of a quarter to watch. So but yeah, I
like Baraclall to win it all and be good to
see you tell Valley get a champ out there.
Speaker 4 (01:07:04):
Yeah, it's a tough spot because Sammy and for the
interaction I've ever had with him has been great, super nice,
friendly kid, hard worker, phenomenal to watch Russell. You know,
his backstory, what he's done at Ohio State is super impressive, brother,
awesome guy. I don't know what to make of him
(01:07:27):
at one sixty five and with everything that he's been through.
I would love to see him make a run here.
I would love to see him get to the finals,
make a statement. You know that he is back, that
he's ready to go, but it's hard to pick that
until you see it, I think. I mean, I don't.
I don't have the personal connection like you do, Ryan,
(01:07:48):
So for me, it's more of a I want to
see it. I would love to see it, you know,
and that would be a hell of a story for
it to happen in Vegas this weekend. So let's let's
see it happen. But I'm kind of with Austin here.
I mean, bar Claus looked fantastic all year, so I
think I would have him coming out of the bottom side.
Another Stanford guy, I'm saying the same thing. Where's he
(01:08:10):
really at? With Hunter Garvin? He's two and two in
the year, but his losses are to bar Claw and
to Caliendo, So you know where's he really at. Is
he going to be able to make a statement because
you know if he, if he's wrestling at his full strength,
he could very much come out of that top side.
So interested to see how he shakes out too.
Speaker 1 (01:08:30):
And in that match with Caliendo, he was up, he
was up.
Speaker 4 (01:08:34):
He's up like nine to two and then seventeen to twelve.
Speaker 1 (01:08:37):
Yeah, like add some weird, weird consistency and you're just fine, right, Like, so, yeah,
he's Hunter. Garvin is tough.
Speaker 4 (01:08:48):
And his loss to bart Claw was like eleven to nine.
It was like a two point match. It was a
good match.
Speaker 1 (01:08:55):
Yeah. I think at the end of the year we'll
be looking at this tournament and saying and and have
a lot of There will be a ton of parody
between this and NTY is the end of the year.
Obviously you have to add in there the Oklahoma Stairs
excuse me, the the I was and the Penn States
and stuff like that. But I think that there will
be a ton of parody with all of these brackets,
not just this one, at the end of the year
(01:09:17):
when we look back. But yeah, I mean, as I
am taking Sasso as a as A want to see
it happen. I think Bara claud does inevitably take the
title at this in this weight class, for sure. Seventy four.
Speaker 3 (01:09:42):
I just realized it could be in a mean Mantonona final.
That'd be cool.
Speaker 1 (01:09:46):
It could be at sixty five because they are on
the side of the bracket. It is anything is possible,
all right, could also happen on the backside, which one
more than I will point I want to make they
anytime I've been at like or n.
Speaker 3 (01:10:06):
C double as, I guess it would be n C Double's.
Wouldn't be any other place that I go to, but
like and I'm around, I like Nick Ryder. Shout out
to Nick Ryder.
Speaker 2 (01:10:12):
So we usually meet up at some point and he's
usually with the Northern Iowa crowd, and I'm always intimidated immediately.
It's just our heart and cauliflower ears and just like
aggressive beards, and I'm.
Speaker 3 (01:10:27):
Like, nope, I've I'm.
Speaker 2 (01:10:30):
Minded my p's and q's here we go somewhere else.
So yeah, they're they're tough, tough.
Speaker 4 (01:10:38):
It is one fantastic descriptor.
Speaker 1 (01:10:41):
That is one thing. Not a not a lot of
fights go down at the NCAA tournament, So they don't
football games, basketball games, baseball games. A lot of people
that cannot fight will be throwing some punches in those stadiums.
NCAA Wrestling Championship. Quiet, we're we're very well behaved drunk people,
(01:11:05):
m h.
Speaker 3 (01:11:06):
Even on Saint Patrick's dag which overlaps sometimes.
Speaker 1 (01:11:10):
I know that's that that is a deadly time. It
really truly is to bring a bunch of very aggressive,
probably mostly Irish people together at a at a at
a wrestling tournament.
Speaker 4 (01:11:24):
Yeah, except for that one guy from West Virginia, I
think he's Irish.
Speaker 3 (01:11:28):
Guy's name Patti Gallagher walking around.
Speaker 1 (01:11:32):
Yeah, I don't. I do not think that it is
a good idea to do that. However, they continue to
do it every single year anyway. One seventy four and
this one not so much as wide open as the
rest of them. For me, it's it's one, two three
(01:11:56):
that I'm truly looking at at one seventy four, and
I think gets hammity that comes out of this one
and wins it. Just my thought that it's hammidy sleep four.
I'm certainly not sleeping on number four. I am certainly
not doing that. The reason that I am am circling
(01:12:17):
one two three is one, obviously because he's the top
seed and he should walk through until he gets to
the semi final where he's probably hitting Norman. But the
two three is how does Hammity look in a new lineup,
you know, new coaches, kind of maybe a new style.
(01:12:38):
Obviously they've had some matches a month end of the season,
but a little bit different environment, obviously better competition, stuff
like that. So how does he look there? And how
does Pinto look having to weigh in back to back
days at seventy four? Those are the two things that
kind of pique my interest when I look at this bracket.
But I'm taking Hammity and and I and I know
(01:13:03):
that the seven versus ten matchup will certainly be one
that we want to see as well. Yeah exactly. And
you know, I know that fret Well would probably want
to kick me in the face if I didn't mention
his guy, Maddie Singleton. But I think seeing what Maddy
(01:13:25):
has is still up for debate right now. Right Like,
he was really good when he came in as a freshman,
really really good. And that's what I'm That's what I'm
saying is we haven't seen how he does being you know,
not cutting a ton and and not being not having
an injury.
Speaker 2 (01:13:48):
I'm pretty surprised with some of these. I mean, I
guess mostly Joseph Walker from Michigan. I mean, he's he's
not going to light up this square war board with
you know, thirty points a match. But uh, he's he's
tough to score on. He wrestles a really good position.
He's he's had a good start to the year. We'll
(01:14:11):
see how that goes. Garrett Thompson of Ohio was an
All American last year it won sixty five and has
had a tough job adjusting to the weight change. But
he's definitely someone to watch out for two. I mean,
it really just should be devast and hammity in the finals.
You know, I've talked to DJ a couple of times.
(01:14:34):
He's awesome dude, And I feel obligated to say that
because I'm gonna pick against him.
Speaker 3 (01:14:40):
But I'm also feel.
Speaker 2 (01:14:41):
Obligated to pick against him because then wearing a South
Dakota State Jack Rabbits sweatshirt right now.
Speaker 3 (01:14:46):
Back again, you know, it's uh, I'm easily swayed.
Speaker 2 (01:14:52):
Watch watch out for Jared Simma Northern Iowa because he
looks exactly like the rest of the Northern Iowa dudes.
Speaker 3 (01:14:59):
Just me Califlower here, I get them all mixed up.
Speaker 1 (01:15:04):
Carhart and Cowerflower here and severely intimidated exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:15:09):
Yeah, if you want to know how to intimidate me,
that's pretty much it.
Speaker 4 (01:15:14):
Just wear bibbs and no Polo this time. Let's go Carhart.
Speaker 3 (01:15:17):
Bibbs, car Heart Bibbs. But this is gonna be awesome.
I mean, this is gonna be a good one.
Speaker 2 (01:15:23):
There. You're gonna see guys, you know, make names for themselves,
come come from unseated spots and and get some good
wins here. But I mean, it really is the top
two guys, and we're gonna get a treat, assuming we
get to see those guys in the finals. I just
I don't see Pinto upsetting Hammity with his gas tank.
I don't see uh, you know, Devas losing to Norman
(01:15:45):
Davos is just too too consistent, and he's shown year
after year that he's that good.
Speaker 4 (01:15:52):
I mean, I I think it's a it goes shock
to the finals. I think it is Devas and Hammity.
I am very interested to see Norman against Devas. He's
looked so good this year so far, relatively untested, so
interested to see how that shakes out. I mean his
(01:16:12):
his toughest win was Nelson Brands, which you know that's
that's a good matchup, but you know it's kind of
a one off in what he's had so far. So
mitch't is to see if he can put together a
tournament and make a run, real big ass to get
to the finals though through DeVos and like we said
with with with Singleton, you know, at the correct weight,
(01:16:36):
not injured. He's looked good so far. He's got a
really tough run to make because Cassella is no joke.
He wins there, He's got Pinto, he wins there. He's
got himittee. So it's gonna be you know, if he
could make a run and be a hell of a run.
Speaker 1 (01:16:51):
Uh, Austin, How's how's Danny wask fair in this bracket?
Speaker 6 (01:16:57):
I like him. He has a win over Pento this year.
You want to win the Navy Classic. He's looking pretty good.
Don't love his matchup with camp camp is camp is
pretty good on his feet, very explosive. I think it
might be a weakness and unless he's changed it up.
But just last year I fel like that was a
weakness with Wasp just kind of gets a little lazy,
(01:17:20):
maybe a little lacks of daisical and on his feet
and you know, gave up some of these doubles that
camp is really good with. But yeah, I think was
I think he's in He's in the running here with
a win over Pinto this year. I just don't see
anyone being Hammity. I think he's too good solid. Just
the way he uses his length and leverage his ankle picks.
(01:17:41):
It's just magic man, you know, is the kind of
the master of that being in there kind of helping
his style out a lot. I think he's gonna have
a really good season. But yeah, I'm not going to
sleep on Ruiz at five being Cornell. You know, he
took a one point one takedown loss to in Contrera,
a journeyman, and in Concerero's like, I think Amnath in
the country right now. So make a trif from penn
(01:18:04):
Gaselle is looking good as well, huge one over Bronagles.
So yeah, four or five or sorry five, six, seven seeds.
I like those guys being Ivy and Ewa guys, But
I think hammity Is is my pick here overall.
Speaker 2 (01:18:19):
I was gonna ask you about Ruiz. I don't know
enough about him for Cornell, but I was like, oh,
seven and one thirteen, Okay, Yeah, you.
Speaker 6 (01:18:26):
Had a really good year last year wrestling for the
Spartan Combat. Yeah, he's a freshman this year. He's he's
going to be a big time guy for them, for sure.
Speaker 4 (01:18:39):
I needed to go off on a side tangent right now,
go for it? Am I the only one who did
not get a sweatshirt from Borgia? What the hell is
going on?
Speaker 3 (01:18:49):
Steve?
Speaker 6 (01:18:51):
It might be a we're gonna fight next time, I seem,
but I live five minutes for them, so I have
a bunch of their gears.
Speaker 4 (01:18:56):
Then go get me a sweatshirt. I'm the only one
who doesn't have one.
Speaker 6 (01:19:00):
Apparently you fit a large.
Speaker 4 (01:19:03):
I might be too fat for that right now.
Speaker 6 (01:19:04):
I could probably try though, put the sleeves off.
Speaker 4 (01:19:07):
There we go.
Speaker 1 (01:19:08):
That sounds yeah, you may make it a best it's perfect.
Speaker 4 (01:19:13):
Shout out to Robbie Bell for this one. It's a
good one. Some South Carolina vest action go.
Speaker 1 (01:19:20):
So what are the picks? I know, me and Austin
are on hammity, Robbie keV what are you guys taking?
Speaker 3 (01:19:25):
I'm going to be jacked up, jack same.
Speaker 1 (01:19:30):
There you go eighty four, gentlemen, eighty four.
Speaker 2 (01:19:35):
Someone historically keeping track of all of our picks forever
and always.
Speaker 1 (01:19:39):
Uh yeah, the the AI. There's an AI note taker
on this sucker that that Oh, there we go, and
I get I literally get all the notes. That's how
I get all the time stamps and stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:19:50):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (01:19:51):
Yeah, Is there like an asterisk the smartest comments I make?
Because that's they should be marked somehow.
Speaker 3 (01:19:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:19:57):
Uh no, they just marked them as as rob be
smartest comments. It literally does. It's the weirdest thing ever.
Speaker 2 (01:20:03):
That good job AI, AI is the best, by the way, Robbie,
Uh yes, rabbits can hop backwards.
Speaker 6 (01:20:15):
That's a callback.
Speaker 3 (01:20:17):
I'm gonna go one. I want to know against Robbie
on this one.
Speaker 1 (01:20:20):
Speaking of tangents, goodness, gracious, I don't. I hate to
do it, but at eighty four, can can we just
say we're gonna have an NCAA's rematch and call it
a day? Is that okay to say we're going to
get one versus two? Parker Kazan and Dustin Plot are
(01:20:40):
going to make it to the finals. C Kov and
wrestle in the finals. I know, I'm I'm sure, I'm
sure that that someone will be pissed off that we're
probably looking past the rest of the field. But come on, guys, Yeah,
I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:21:01):
I Bennett Bergy's wressel Dustin Plot a bunch of times,
and Plots just had his number, you know, I think that.
I mean, I think what Bennett Bergy eventually turns into
is what Dustin Plot has been the last year and
two Right, he's healthy, like, that's kind of what he's
going to become.
Speaker 3 (01:21:20):
Ben Berg.
Speaker 1 (01:21:20):
He just took a loss too, wasn't that two Plot?
Who was to mcineally from Minnesota?
Speaker 3 (01:21:29):
Oh, that's right, that is right.
Speaker 4 (01:21:32):
You know, Gophers can't jump backwards, cannot.
Speaker 1 (01:21:37):
Egham was was very very high on mcainelly coming into
the season, and I see why.
Speaker 3 (01:21:43):
That's a good win for him.
Speaker 1 (01:21:47):
Robbie.
Speaker 3 (01:21:48):
Is c J.
Speaker 1 (01:21:48):
Stewart ready for this?
Speaker 3 (01:21:50):
I hope so.
Speaker 4 (01:21:54):
Has not had a great start to the year. I'm
hopeful that he can make a little bit of a
run here. He needs to get his confidence back, he
needs to get that swagger back because that's that's how
he wrestles well. And if he's doubting himself at all,
that's gonna show really really quick. Agreed, So I'd I'd
(01:22:15):
like to see, you know, I'd like to see him
make a run. I think Bachman's going to be a
heck of a test for him. If he's wrestling to
his to his ability, he could beat him pretty handily.
I would choose him there. I mean, I I think
he makes he can make a run to Kekison. Anybody
beating him right now is a huge ask that's in
(01:22:38):
this bracket. So I don't see that happening right now,
but I would love to see him, you know, kind
of get his mojo back and get get back on
the right side of the wind. Call him and use
this tournament kind of a boost his his his stock
going into a big duel in two weeks where he'll
see plot.
Speaker 1 (01:22:59):
I mean, if if at any point you're going to
let it fly like you did last year, because he
was so much fun coming into the lineup last year,
it should be this weekend because you're you're not going
to see this many very good guys all in a
(01:23:19):
two day span, ever, again until you hit the end
of the year, until you hit the ACC tournament or
even n C NCAA mean ACC tournament has four other
guys in it. Five other guys. I mean, there's not
like there's a ton of teams that are in the ACC.
Speaker 4 (01:23:34):
There's six other guys. Now, thank you, Stanford. There you
go wearing their.
Speaker 1 (01:23:40):
Yeah, and I know I know exactly where they're at
because they have the potential to win it with how
they're wrestling.
Speaker 3 (01:23:49):
They do.
Speaker 1 (01:23:51):
But no, I I want to I want to see
an offensive t J. Stewart. I do in the worst
way because last year when he came in and he
was bare hugging people and he was trying to run
through them like they were marshmallow walls, it was awesome
to see. So I want to see that again. I
understand he's coming off a little bit of an injury.
(01:24:11):
Things aren't aren't where it mentally where they should be, probably,
but like, let's let's get it going. You're you're okay.
You seem to be okay. If you weren't, I don't
think that you would be out on the mat. I
don't think one that your coaches would allow you to
be out on the mat, and too, I don't think
your dad would allow you to be out on the mat.
Let's just call it what it is. If he did
(01:24:32):
not feel that he was safe, he would not be
out there let it fly, because when you do, you're
very hard to beat. Right now, when you're being strategic,
it's not that you're easy to beat. You're easy or
to beat. And because so far you should not be
losing to so TJ. Stewart, let's get it moving, and
(01:24:53):
let's get it moving in Vegas, because why the hell not?
Like people do dumber shit in Vegas.
Speaker 4 (01:25:00):
Do a lot of dumbh it in Vegas movies about that?
Speaker 1 (01:25:02):
Why why not?
Speaker 3 (01:25:03):
Why not go crazy?
Speaker 1 (01:25:05):
Exactly? Why not go crazy Vegas and do some dumb shit.
But with that said, I'm not betting against Parker Kek
Cousin because you just it's not really something that you
do unless he's wrestling Carter Sarachi.
Speaker 4 (01:25:19):
It's that Carhart and Caulflowerer.
Speaker 2 (01:25:20):
Again, it's a massive it's just a combo that's hard
to beat. So, since one eighty four is a lot
less exciting to talk about, I want to point out
the Lamer family. So if you'll notice Dash Old Lamer.
I believe I'm pronouncing that correctly. Sounds familiar because there's
(01:25:41):
lots of other Lamers who wrestled.
Speaker 3 (01:25:42):
At cal Poly.
Speaker 4 (01:25:44):
Legend still there isn't.
Speaker 3 (01:25:45):
He Legend is still there. We went by him earlier.
Speaker 2 (01:25:49):
Chance is not wrestling in this tournament, but he is
still wrestling at cal Poly. They have another brother, so
it's it's Justice Brawley, Legend, Dash Ol and Chance are.
Speaker 3 (01:26:02):
The Lamer Boys.
Speaker 1 (01:26:04):
They can take on their names Justice.
Speaker 2 (01:26:07):
Ring cross country at Montana State. Brawley recently wrapped up
wrapped up his wrestling career at cal Poly and is
currently director of Operations. Legend is a red shirt junior
on the cal Poly wrestling team. Dash as a freshman,
and the dad wrestled at where other in South Dakota State.
Speaker 3 (01:26:26):
Circle. Wow, yeah, I didn't know that before he jumped backwards.
Probably yeah, well he was.
Speaker 2 (01:26:32):
He was a three time Division two national champion, So
I assume as much Legend says the legend.
Speaker 3 (01:26:40):
Some people call that a sprawl, Robbie, I don't know.
Virginia they have a different term for that.
Speaker 6 (01:26:46):
They don't know how to sprawl down there.
Speaker 3 (01:26:50):
Just shoot again.
Speaker 1 (01:26:52):
The lam in some cases and that's the hard part,
the legend, the lamers to take on the Matins, because
it seems like there's.
Speaker 4 (01:26:59):
Just there's another one.
Speaker 1 (01:27:01):
There's another Madon coming, right, Yeah, he's going.
Speaker 3 (01:27:06):
I think he's going to Stanford. Actually there you go.
Speaker 1 (01:27:10):
Very yeah, very large families, pretty awesome. Yeah, just when
you think that there's no more Mattens, there's another one coming.
Speaker 6 (01:27:18):
There's always going to be more.
Speaker 4 (01:27:19):
It's like a never ending string because they're just going
to start having kids who are going to be college
as soon. And they're all doctors somehow.
Speaker 1 (01:27:26):
Yes, all of them, all of them, all of them
very smart.
Speaker 6 (01:27:30):
And side When did great hair? When did Garrett ninehouse?
Speaker 4 (01:27:38):
The same thing.
Speaker 3 (01:27:42):
Here? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:27:43):
Local it was in this this offseason. Yeah, jeez, speaking
good bullets, he always takes the way out west. We've
had a pretty decent mullet that guy. But yeah, I
think we just we just made one to eighty four interesting,
even though we know it's going to be plot versus Keys.
Speaker 3 (01:28:02):
We did our Yeah it's fair, we did our best.
Speaker 1 (01:28:06):
Keck guys in for the win.
Speaker 4 (01:28:08):
I would love to see TJ make a good run
this weekend and then you know, have plot at the
duel in two weeks. I think that would be a
good setup.
Speaker 1 (01:28:18):
Yeah, TJ, all right, roll roll the damn dice. It's Vegas.
Oh yeah, it's time to get to the one that
we really probably wanted to talk about. I'm sure Robbie
cannot wait to talk about one ninety seven.
Speaker 4 (01:28:31):
Yeah, because we can't use emojis.
Speaker 1 (01:28:35):
There are no emojis on the line. The next said,
there are no emojis on the line this weekend. However,
are they on the same side of the bracket? No,
they are not.
Speaker 4 (01:28:44):
Is aj even actually in the bracket?
Speaker 1 (01:28:47):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (01:28:48):
Yeah, yes, But is he confirmed that he's actually going,
because it's been speculated that he's not.
Speaker 6 (01:28:56):
He is you know what, whatever I.
Speaker 1 (01:28:59):
Know, I know it has been speculated. I will doing was.
Speaker 4 (01:29:03):
Doing a clinic at a jiu jitsu gym somewhere.
Speaker 1 (01:29:09):
I will take a look at the registration and will
recheck because I just have the seeds, but I can
look to see if the school put him in.
Speaker 3 (01:29:19):
Here while you're doing that.
Speaker 2 (01:29:22):
This is this is quietly deeper than I really gave
it credit for. I mean, there is, I mean Jacob
Cardinas World Silver Tray. You know, as we know how
good he is and how he's I mean, he's looked
really good at one ninety seven. I can't say that
I feel like, you know, adjusting to the size or
the weight class has been any bit of his issue
(01:29:44):
this year.
Speaker 3 (01:29:45):
He's just running a really good competition. Z Thatch Glacier.
I'm sure he's out for, you know, to prove something to.
Speaker 6 (01:29:53):
Somebody semi final.
Speaker 3 (01:29:57):
That's assuming. So here's what I was looking at.
Speaker 2 (01:30:00):
So Christian Carrol, Joey Novak, Wyoming for Novak and Christian
Carol Iowa State, Like that's going to be an awesome match.
I think Novak's ranked top fifteen or something right now,
and it's looked really, really good.
Speaker 3 (01:30:13):
Novak has wrestled Ferrari.
Speaker 2 (01:30:16):
Last year at the Solar Salute, so I mean there's
at least that background, and you know, I'm sure Christian
Carroll would love to come out there with a big
statement win.
Speaker 3 (01:30:28):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (01:30:31):
Sorry just a point, but there there's no they are
not like the whole team is not in the registration.
Kelsey Bakersfield is not registered or the interesting at least
and the weird part about that is, as I'm looking
at the registration on Track Wrestling is there were there
(01:30:55):
was one hundred and seventy nine guys are lear now?
Is one hundred and seventy four? Oh yeah? So yeah,
I'm not seeing any like they're they whole team not here?
Speaker 4 (01:31:13):
Well, Luke a message, See what's going on?
Speaker 1 (01:31:17):
Because isn't it isn't it on their.
Speaker 4 (01:31:23):
How their schedule?
Speaker 1 (01:31:24):
How the season on their schedule?
Speaker 6 (01:31:27):
How do they know who to preciate if they register?
I mean, I don't think pre sate people out registration.
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:31:36):
May I think triple stamp at double standy you can't
pre seed an unregistered team.
Speaker 1 (01:31:42):
Yeah, I mean it's it is. It is on their
schedule to be in Las Vegas. So but yeah, I
mean I'm looking at the registration right now and I'm
not seeing any how State Bakersfield in here whatsoever? They
would be on the first page. I mean it's in
here alphabetically. Yeah, so the top be pretty close to
(01:32:08):
the top. Yeah, not a lot of digging, not a
lot of digging that needs to be done in here.
And you know what's funny is Arizona State's not on
this registration either.
Speaker 6 (01:32:24):
They must be missing teams. That's crazy.
Speaker 4 (01:32:25):
Maybe we're missing the first page.
Speaker 2 (01:32:27):
I'll text Zeke too stupid, uh, independent of that, right,
I mean, I don't think they be listed on here
by mistake, you know, I don't know how that works.
But for the beast, however, on the list of teams,
Arizona State is listed on this list of teams, cal
(01:32:50):
State Bakersfield is not just just.
Speaker 1 (01:32:53):
Putting that out there.
Speaker 3 (01:32:55):
So is it alphabetical?
Speaker 1 (01:32:57):
Once again? Alphabetical? All right, So that's how that goes.
But I think going going off of the preseeds is
what we should continue to do because who knows what
what may change. I mean, it is, like I said,
it is on both their schedules. Calsey bakers was supposed
(01:33:19):
to be there. So we'll go with it and we'll
talk one and when.
Speaker 4 (01:33:24):
A really quick Virginia rastling story that kind of fits
into this, how about it? So I used to used
to host this dual tournament at the first school I
coached at. And there's a school south of Richmond that
notoriously just didn't schedule well. And one year I had
(01:33:45):
the dual brackets all set up ready to go, getting
ready to start weigh ins, and they just showed up.
Speaker 3 (01:33:53):
So that was cool.
Speaker 4 (01:33:55):
I had the figure the tournament. Yeah, it fits in
very well.
Speaker 3 (01:34:01):
Division.
Speaker 4 (01:34:01):
Yeah yeah, this division. That was when it was still
three divisions actually that was before the before the split,
or four divisions with private schools. They showed up and
it made it for Yeah, yeah, so it was Uh,
it was interesting. That's fun. So maybe that's what what
Bakersfield's gonna do. They're just going to show up and
see what.
Speaker 1 (01:34:19):
Happened to show up. Just roll in right around, right around,
way in time, and uh, we'll see what happens. I'm
going to go off of what the preseeds are and man,
I want that one versus four matchup in the semis
so badly get it, Like, let's reignite those fires. The
(01:34:41):
funniest thing about this matchup is that neither one of
them was at the school that they were at last year,
and when they were essentially fighting over the spot for
a school that they no longer are in the running
to wrestle for. Just amazing, absolutely amazing.
Speaker 4 (01:35:01):
But no, this is the situation inane.
Speaker 1 (01:35:04):
Yeah, but this is I mean, Kevin, You're right, this
is a deep bracket, like a deeper bracket than than
you know what you thought when you looked at it.
The the interesting wrinkle for me is Christian Carroll. I
want to see how he does here, and you know
he's he's he took a who did he lose to recently?
(01:35:25):
It's a bad loss.
Speaker 3 (01:35:28):
Buchanan?
Speaker 1 (01:35:29):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think it was. Yeah, Buchanan rolled
him up pretty nicely, which you know it is. It's okay,
but he was, I mean, he was on a pretty
good run. Christian Caro was on a pretty good run.
He's looking pretty good, looking, really strong him at nine.
(01:35:50):
He can pull an up set on on one of
these guys for sure. You know, I'm looking at Serber
or Geog one of those guys where he can, you know,
maybe top them at least get get above them and
place higher than than they than where they're currently seated.
I'm taking Cardinas to win this, even if Ferrari's there.
(01:36:14):
I've agreed Cardinas is. Cardinas is my champ, even if
Ferrari is there, because I think he he will be
the biggest test for Ferrari. And not only that, he's
I think he's too offensive. What we saw from Ferrari
versus Stemmet, in which either Stemmitt closed the gap or
(01:36:38):
Ferrari is still getting his wrestling legs back under him.
But I think that Cardinas now in a new room,
a little bit more open of a style. I think
he's a little bit too offensive and I think he
will wrestle well against Ferrari, and that's that's my pick
(01:37:00):
to win it.
Speaker 4 (01:37:02):
He looks big, too large, he's uh in his handsomeness
might be intimidating to a j as well. That kind
of probably throw him off his game.
Speaker 3 (01:37:14):
Wait, you're also huge in Jackson from Jersey? Did you
come from the same lab I did?
Speaker 4 (01:37:24):
His hairline doesn't go midway down his forehead like some
people though, So there's that.
Speaker 3 (01:37:29):
Now that'll be fun.
Speaker 2 (01:37:30):
I would love to see that matchup, assuming the seeds,
you know, stick together and everything.
Speaker 3 (01:37:37):
That would be fun.
Speaker 2 (01:37:39):
And you know Cardinis is he's out for it all
this year, so he's not going to be intimidated by
anybody in front of him.
Speaker 3 (01:37:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:37:47):
I mean, Servers looked awesome this year, Geog. I think
it still has all the ability to to kind of
put it together. But I mean these the top four
kind of where it's at. What's going on with Andy Smith?
How we how are we feeling about him in Virginia?
Speaker 4 (01:38:07):
Looks great so far. He's two and oh, has went
over Posnansky and Sinclair. So he's he's been. He's he's Andy,
He's solid, he not flashy. He's not going to do
a whole lot of fancy stuff. He's going to go
out there and brawl a little bit and score some
points and quite often wins blood round guy. Last year,
(01:38:31):
he's he's got the talent. Sonny's still coming off an
injury and likely won't be back until after the new year.
So right now it's Andy Smiths show, and he's going
to see what he can what he can prove, and
you know they're going to make that choice for the
starter at the before a CS he starts.
Speaker 6 (01:38:51):
We always mentioned interesting unique names. Andy Smith does not
fit that box. It's like the dry plane name.
Speaker 1 (01:39:05):
It's a name you would get on a fake idea.
Speaker 3 (01:39:07):
It's the opposite of a J. Ferrari Will. That's a
badass name.
Speaker 1 (01:39:20):
Certainly the even though I did say that Christian Carroll,
could you know, maybe place ahead of Luke Serber. Serber
has had a good year, as you guys mentioned. I
mean he owns a shutout win over Munos. Who is
the three seed here? Right So if anyone is going
to outplace their seed. Maybe I should walk that Carol's
(01:39:43):
statement back and it probably should be Serber if anything.
Speaker 6 (01:39:46):
Honestly, yeah, we might see a Serber Cardinas semi if
Serber beats Minos again. And I think Cardinas is my pick.
Just looking good, rolled silver metal, like Clunt said, and
just new home in Michigan, and I think he's a
he's a writer role this year.
Speaker 3 (01:40:07):
I gotta keep it going. Are we going to get
a Cardenas handing matchup?
Speaker 1 (01:40:13):
A lot of movement, a lot a lot of movement.
If you were paying attention to social media today as
I was, there was there was a lot of movement
with colleges today with it being like football national signing day,
and it was it was very interesting. It was a
very interesting to watch because if you thought that it
(01:40:34):
gets crazy in wrestling with the transfer portal and how
many guys are wrestling here, or at least like the
way it looked this past year, pay attention to a
football signing day just once.
Speaker 3 (01:40:47):
It is.
Speaker 1 (01:40:48):
It is wild because they go very hard on like
four star on those ratings, so like you're seeing a
five star guy that is like tweeting something out or
posting something to his social media that everybody's attached to,
and then they like cut to his live signing where
he's like throwing a hat from this school and putting
(01:41:09):
on it like it is. It is peak drama, and
it's awesome. It's really awesome because there's a bunch of
kids that are verbally committed to schools and then it
comes out and it's just like so and so will
not be signing to you know, Florida today, and everybody's
like they're like and everybody's like, what the hell? And
then like you like, underneath it, they're like, he he
(01:41:32):
took a he took an official visit to Purdue last
week or whatever, like like the amount of attention, Like
I know, we pay crazy attention to to a lot
of the details when it comes like Bob Bassett or
Blades or any of these guys pay attention to football
just just just for one national signing day and you'll
just you'll go a little crazy. So that's my that's
(01:41:53):
my tangent of this. As we're talking about guys moving
all around now talk about they most certainly can. And
now I want to go to Robbie to talk about
how good Trumble is going to look at two eighty five.
Speaker 4 (01:42:07):
I'm pretty excited about this. I don't know how he
got the two seedar Or Schultz A little confused by that.
Speaker 1 (01:42:16):
Verry that'll probably flip though, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:42:20):
I would.
Speaker 4 (01:42:20):
I would assume. So. I mean they had to head
loss in the last week or two weeks, I think.
Speaker 1 (01:42:26):
But I mean, if you it's kind of the same
at ninety seven, where Serber has a win over Munnos.
But I think it's like, what is it that if
they might be going off of last year with Munos
being an All American last year.
Speaker 4 (01:42:40):
Trembled an even Russell last year, I guess he won Midlands.
Speaker 1 (01:42:44):
That's what I'm saying at ninety seven, Like maybe that's
what they're using there, But I don't know what kind
of criteria the're using. A heavyweight.
Speaker 4 (01:42:52):
Who looks older, that's probably what they're doing with.
Speaker 1 (01:42:58):
I'm sure Zeke will have that strict he wins both
of those. Zeke will have that straightened out before the
first whistle.
Speaker 4 (01:43:04):
Now, Zeke's a pretty calm, low key, rational, not overreacting
guy at all.
Speaker 1 (01:43:10):
Yeah, I think the man you're looking for is lead Pritz.
That's that's their I don't know how irrationally is but
he is definitely calmer.
Speaker 3 (01:43:19):
I think I figured it out. What they did here
was they went Final X and Freestyle over Final X
and Greco.
Speaker 1 (01:43:29):
So freestyle gets more attention than Greco.
Speaker 3 (01:43:31):
Again, God, it's it's a it goes right to the core.
Speaker 1 (01:43:35):
It will never end. It'll never end.
Speaker 7 (01:43:38):
Now if they do flip that though, that makes a
really interesting quarter because that means Mullin and Trumbull in
a quarter, which has a lot of implications.
Speaker 4 (01:43:49):
Because we also still have Kaka sitting out, who just
won the Keystone Classic on all text and pins. So,
I mean, that's an interesting situation going on in Blacksburg
right now. Figure out who's going to be the best
option there, and you know, this can be a place
for Jimmy to prove that it's his. But I mean,
(01:44:13):
I like Isaac Trumble. I think he's going to be
really really good at heavyweight.
Speaker 1 (01:44:17):
I like him too.
Speaker 6 (01:44:19):
I had as you started the fan club, didn't you.
Speaker 1 (01:44:22):
I did.
Speaker 4 (01:44:24):
I think it's going to be a really tough test
for him to get to the finals. I think he can,
but I think it's going to be a big ask
to reverse that that last result.
Speaker 1 (01:44:38):
Now are we are we going with the way that
the seeds are now, or the way we think they're
going to probably flip them and make him the three
seed and they'll have Feldman. I mean, either way, it's tough,
but it's significantly more tough if he has to wrestle
Colton Schultz again.
Speaker 4 (01:44:56):
Either way, it would be the same, right because they're
two and three, so they just flopped at the top
of the bottom, so it doesn't technically didn't have much
of an impact on down the line, but it would
have an impact on quarter matchups, and I would I
would pick him, I think in both quarter matchups. I
(01:45:16):
think he's going to be a really tough test for
Mole and style wise, I think it's going to be
a really fun match to watch actually, but.
Speaker 3 (01:45:26):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:45:26):
I would love to see him beat Schultz. I think
he but Schultz is damn good. He looks like a
twelve year old still, but he's He's very large and
very strong and very good at wrestling. So it's hard
not to see Schultzen Hendrickson here.
Speaker 1 (01:45:46):
I am taking Hendrickson to bonus his way through the
Champion to the title captain ots lots of very strong
double legs and some backflips and the man is a beast,
an absolute beast, and he looks very good. Yeah, yeah,
(01:46:09):
I don't think anyone beats Hendrickson. Feldman, while very good,
I think he majors him.
Speaker 2 (01:46:22):
If if Feldman looked better in the All Star Classic,
I mean, I'm you know, it's easy to say, like
if the dude didn't lose, like, would you think he'd
probably win again? But you know, I think it was
just a bad look. I don't think that that's indicative
of what like what he can and should be this year.
(01:46:45):
I think that Hendrickson's going to beat him. I do
think that, but I think that, you know, it's important.
It's going to be important for Nick Feldman to have
a strong tournament and to put some things together into
a race.
Speaker 3 (01:46:56):
A little bit of the doubt that.
Speaker 4 (01:46:58):
He also hasn't been tested this season other than the
All Star Class. I mean his match against Taylor, but
that was before he got hurt. And otherwise it's tech
tech tech tech.
Speaker 3 (01:47:11):
And.
Speaker 4 (01:47:12):
Yeah, those are good, super tough, yeah, but not not
against that competition. I mean, that's that's the expected result
against that competition.
Speaker 3 (01:47:21):
Would you prefer him to lose against that competition because.
Speaker 4 (01:47:24):
I'd be okay with it. I would be okay with that.
I'd be okay if you lost Isaac Trumble to Holmes.
Speaker 2 (01:47:30):
I thought it was weird that your your bylaws for
your started Isaac Trumble fan club doesn't allow Robbies in it.
Speaker 1 (01:47:38):
Because because he honestly doesn't love Isaac Trumble enough. Yeah,
it's really not hard because it's on Ridge love It's
shoulder Listen.
Speaker 2 (01:47:55):
You can't just jump into one part of the episode
really backwards.
Speaker 3 (01:47:59):
You really can't backwards.
Speaker 1 (01:48:01):
You really can't. But yeah, it's it's Hendrickson. It really
is in this bracket and if if he doesn't bonus everyone,
he beats them by at least five. It's just it's
just tough for me to see just the way that
he is wrestling aggressively against basically everyone. I mean, you know,
(01:48:25):
I've seen a couple of his matches so far this year,
and he is just aggressively attacking every single person. It's
it's almost like he has a high attack rate for
a coach that he that he now has in Oklahoma,
he's attacking his coach still. Uh, he probably is. If
(01:48:49):
if you're looking at that coaching staff. Who the hell
do you think he's wrestling with Gilman? Probably honestly, the
attitude probably came from Gilman.
Speaker 4 (01:48:58):
Probably swagger wise, when you're talking about earlier, that makes
a lot of sense.
Speaker 1 (01:49:03):
Yeah, a lot, a lot of swag, a lot of agility,
all coming from Gilman.
Speaker 2 (01:49:09):
Real quick comment on heavyweight in general. Do you guys
know that there's ten seniors in the top twelve ranked.
Speaker 4 (01:49:15):
Currently, Yeah, it's gonna be a huge turnover.
Speaker 2 (01:49:20):
Let's enjoy this golden age of heavyweight, you know, because
I mean the point I was going to make was
it Hendrickson's currently ranked third and we're, you know, picking
him to bonus his way through this tournament that includes
the fifth, sixth, and eighth ranked guys in it. And yeah,
I was looking at that and I was like, oh,
everybody's gone except for Feldman.
Speaker 3 (01:49:42):
Uh who else? Did I see?
Speaker 2 (01:49:44):
Isaac Trumbull's a junior. And then you get to Ben
Keeter and Dayton Pitzer. Let's appreciate you guys.
Speaker 1 (01:49:52):
And who knows and who knows if Keeter is back
to wrestling next year, right, Like this is a year
of full on wrestling for him, you know, not to
go full tangent, but I'm sure those you know that
the pads and helmet are going to come back next year.
You know, there was an agreement for him to go
all in in hopes of winning a world title and
then you know, going all in on trying to do
(01:50:16):
everything that he needs to do for Iowa. From a
wrestling standpoint, it'll be very different in the next couple
of years, next three years of him wrestling.
Speaker 3 (01:50:29):
And Schultz could have another couple of years of eligibility
we don't know about.
Speaker 1 (01:50:34):
To certainly see about that. Yeah, I think Hendrickson takes it.
Looks very good doing it team team score wise, what
are we thinking? Who wins this one? From a team
score standpoint? Does Oklahoma State take it? I know, I
(01:50:59):
think I saw piles put out like a project rejection
based on seeds of like what team score would look like,
and it's Oklahoma State on top, just based on how
Oklahoma State guys are seeded, you know, and how those
points would allocate if they wrestled to their seed.
Speaker 6 (01:51:19):
Pretty much between them and Nebraska at this point, right,
I mean strength NC State, Cornell, not full strength Iowa State.
They have a few guys out, but you know they
might be able to be up there, but yeah, I
think it's gonna be in Nebraska and Oklahoma State, right,
those are probably the top two.
Speaker 3 (01:51:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:51:37):
I'm kind of leaning Oklahoma State just I think the
excitement and you know, with the off season signed David Taylor,
and I just think their guys are ready to get
back on top. And you know, bake Oloma State great again.
You know they haven't been They've been I shouldn't say down,
but you know that there haven't been anti champs like
(01:51:58):
they have been in the past.
Speaker 3 (01:51:59):
Yeah. I mean.
Speaker 1 (01:52:02):
The hard part about that is that Nebraska won this
last year, I believe, and all of those guys are back.
They they lost no One.
Speaker 2 (01:52:17):
Yeah, I I kind of I'm kind of leaning Nebraska.
They did lose their heavyweight, that big Polar Bear guy.
Speaker 3 (01:52:24):
Yeah, but I mean I don't think he was there anyway.
Speaker 1 (01:52:26):
He wasn't there at this point.
Speaker 4 (01:52:28):
Yeah, because he actually finally made a Bowl this year.
Speaker 1 (01:52:33):
Weird, he just lost his coaches though it's gonna.
Speaker 4 (01:52:40):
I don't know Holgerson's gonna make all the difference. So
it's okay.
Speaker 2 (01:52:44):
I keep wanting to make an argument for Ohio State,
but there's I mean, they didn't send their whole lineups,
and that makes it hard. I keep wanting to make
an argument for Nebraska, but I'm like, I don't know
what points they're gonna get it have waiting one ninety
seven and that's hard to make up. The most complete
(01:53:04):
team is Oklahoma State, and I don't know that they
I mean, they could walk away from this thing, you know,
with Wyatt Henderson as the champion and you know, maybe DJ.
Speaker 3 (01:53:15):
And I guess that's a lot that's pretty good. So
I think I've talked myself into Oklahoma State.
Speaker 4 (01:53:23):
Yeah, I mean, Virginia Tech doesn't have all their starters.
They got McGonagall and Wolack out. N C State's not
sending Fish back in Alreny. They've got some injuries they're
dealing with and trying to figure out ninety seven and thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:53:33):
Three, So Cornell a ton of injuries. I'm going Nebraska.
I think they do it again. Like I said, they
return basically all the guys that they had in their
lineup last year at this point, So tough to bet
against them. And I mean they're they're a strong ass team.
(01:53:55):
And I think with all Red and Pinto down at
seventy four eighty for it makes them even stronger, to
be completely honest. So I'm going Nebraska. That's my pick
to win the team title. I think that they they
have a lineup of guys that if they don't make
the final, they will place like top four.
Speaker 4 (01:54:16):
Yeah, it's already even wrestler, I'll see hm in eighty four. Yeah,
since they Willy mentioned that either all Red or Pinto may.
Speaker 6 (01:54:25):
Be out, I haven't see already in there. Nebraska's of anybody.
Speaker 1 (01:54:31):
Yeah, well Pinto is in there. He's the three seed
at seventy four. But yeah, yeah, no one, yeah, no
Alred at eighty four. But even still without that, it's
it's still tough to kind of bet against them for
me because they've it's.
Speaker 4 (01:54:48):
Pretty solidly Nebraska upland the state. Yeah, kind of for sure,
unless the jack Rabbits bounce backwards see the podium somehow.
Speaker 3 (01:55:03):
I'm doing my homework thing of talking myself into what
would need to happen for Michigan to get it done.
Speaker 4 (01:55:09):
Cardenas could win it two weights, Lemley makes a run.
Speaker 1 (01:55:13):
For Lemley to do everything Kevin thinks he can do,
and then and then wins two other weight classes.
Speaker 2 (01:55:19):
It all starts with Nolan Wharton and our our loud
and swaying, irrational confidence winner getting on that podium.
Speaker 4 (01:55:28):
I would like to point out that Nolan Wharton lost
to Kipian Roller last week. Just kind of throw that
out there.
Speaker 1 (01:55:34):
That stop living in the past, Robbie, Yeah, we gotta
we got to live in the future. Future that has
a guy leaving Ohio State to go to Oklahoma State,
that type of future.
Speaker 4 (01:55:46):
Yeah, we're not supposed to talk about that.
Speaker 1 (01:55:48):
You know, it's a there's it's it's a there's a
rumor that is out there that that is going to happen.
And I can talk about rumors.
Speaker 3 (01:55:55):
Because you know, it all depends on the results of
this tournament.
Speaker 1 (01:55:59):
Who wins, whoever places higher gets it.
Speaker 3 (01:56:02):
Yeah, whoever wins the lottery. Did they do lotteries in Vegas?
I couldn't think of a better thing to gamble on.
Speaker 1 (01:56:13):
Uh, they bet on They bet on everything. There's a yeah,
there is a sports book you can you could throw
your money at basically anything in Vegas. Yeah. See what
I did there, gentlemen. I think we we can wrap
it up with saying this tournament is going to be
(01:56:34):
damn good and uh, the weight class that you probably
want to watch is fifty seven and one twenty five,
but more so because it is going to be amazing
forty nine as well. I think it's I think it's
all going to be great. Honestly, I'm I'm taking Nebraska
(01:56:54):
to win it. I know we've got Smoklahoma States in
there to win it. But it's going to be a
good time, a very very good time. You guys got
anything else before we uh end for the night? Any
other tidbits, nuggets, callbacks, movie references, and the.
Speaker 4 (01:57:12):
Acc Ivy League matchup on Friday. Penns coming down to
Charlottesville b be a duel.
Speaker 2 (01:57:21):
I just want to shout out the Lamers and Matins
one more time for having a bunch of badass dudes.
Speaker 4 (01:57:26):
It's doctor Matten's t.
Speaker 1 (01:57:27):
You, Doctor Mattens.
Speaker 2 (01:57:30):
You know what's great is that the streams crossed at
one point because Lamer Chance Lamer was at Michigan briefly
and there were Mattins on that team, And I think
it's just they got too close to the sun and
they had to separate.
Speaker 1 (01:57:42):
Goodness gracious, yeah, you cannot have all the Lamers and
all the Matins in the same room at the same time.
Speaker 3 (01:57:47):
The streams can't cross. There's another movie reference.
Speaker 1 (01:57:54):
He brought it. He brought it right back, brought the
movie reference in. I knew there was. There was probably
one of them we needed to make anyway, gentlemen, As always,
it's a ton of fun, and we also appreciate everybody watching, listening,
and making fun of us in the comments. So bring
those comments, like subscribe, all that fun stuff, and we'll
see you again next time.
