Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back, gentlemen. Always good to be sitting down with
you find fellows. And this week we've got some wrestling
to talk about as the season gets kicked off on
Spooky Night. And it is what I think they're calling it,
what the Daddy of them All or something like that,
is the duel of the Daddy duel at the Daddy
there you.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Go, Frontier Days is the Granddaddy.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
And I was. And that's the thing is, I was
gonna come to our our Wyoming to give us a
little bit more geography on it with Campbell and Wyoming
dueling and getting and I love the fact they got
the permission to be the first duel of the year
and that they're doing it big. And we'll dig into
some of the things Campbell does later. But like, tell
us about this venue. I mean I saw in one

(00:40):
of the releases that there they weren't even trip they
were going to be telling tickets, Like is there? Like
what what can you give us, mister Wyoming about this
entire place?

Speaker 2 (00:49):
So Cheyenne is the capital, so fun fact, Wyoming. When
I left Wyoming there was less than five hundred thousand
people there.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
How old were you at the time?

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (01:01):
I guess I went to college outside of Wyoming because
there's only one four year college in Wyoming. Fun fact,
when I moved, Oh, when I moved to Virginia, there's
less than five hundred dozen people there and there's a
big deal when they finally tipped over that. So there's
more people in Richmond than there is in Wyoming, which
is interesting. Uh Shayan's capital. That's where Frontier Days is.

(01:24):
It's huge rodeo every every summer, a couple of weeks long.
One of the really one of the biggest outdoor rodeos
in the country, uh, if not the world. It's it's
a really cool event. And the fact that they're able
to have a wrestling match there is going to be
just fantastic. Kind of kind of bummed. I'm not able
to get out there. I'm talking with Coach Branch tomorrow

(01:47):
to kind of hype it up a little bit and
get get his insight on it and talk about, you know,
how this all came to be. But you know, they've
done a fantastic job. The Battle at the Barn last
year was you know, they're another outdoor druel they did
that was in a barn and Centennial which is right
outside of Lamie where you Dove is and it was
a really cool event. So I'm glad they're they're up

(02:08):
in the stakes a little bit this year and it
should be a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Yeah, I love I love what these two teams have
been doing. Some a lot of playful trash talk on
Twitter that we've seen in the past, Branch talking about
how how's he going to do is mustache? Like, like
what's his look gonna be? I know, last year.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Scotty can't even grow a mustache, so that's part of
the problem.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Yeah, exactly, So like but I think it's it's awesome
how innovative these teams have been the last couple of years.
Campbell is obviously going to be doing a lot more
of that, you know this this year. Obviously they're at
Wyoming in Frontier Park, but then they're also going to
be doing a duel with Nebraska in a couple of weeks.

(02:52):
Who was at November fifteenth at Jerry at Jim Perry Stadium.
So like, even more innovation coming from from camp Mble,
which is even more so why I think and this
is you know more probably a soapbox point for me,
but like even more so, why we need to get
behind everything that Campbell is doing as it's been announced
that you know, they're going to be losing scholarships and

(03:14):
things are not going to be looking good for them
with this new revshare thing. And I just had a
really great conversation with Vilente which will be out tomorrow
about all that. But man, I love everything that Campbell does.
I love how Wyoming, how two teams are really coming
together over these last couple of years to innovate and

(03:36):
market and have really amazing duels. It's something we obviously
saw with Iowa and Oklahoma State, but to see how
these two teams are coming together and doing it is
pretty awesome. What are your guys thoughts on how teams
innovate and and how we've seen more teams start to
do this, not just you know, it probably started with
the Battle at Kinnick, but now we're starting to see

(03:58):
Campbell and Wyoming do this every single year and how
they start the season.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
And Campbell also had a battut the brag at Fort
Bragg and the and the airplane hangar is that last
year or two years ago?

Speaker 4 (04:09):
Years ago?

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Yeah, cool Ight passed to do all of it too.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
And that's it. That was the thing that I was
gonna hit on is they've they've gotten that partnership with
with Fight Pass and they've really you know, got behind
that and that the funding from that helps a lot
to get these venues that otherwise would be kind of unreachable.
But just the play to make that happen is you know,
it is huge to get that, you know, trying to

(04:33):
fight for the UFC market chair, which you know we
may or may not get anything out of, but but
putting that in front of the eyeballs of that many
people who have fight passes pretty fantastic.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
Yeah, it's it's awesome. I mean, you know, one thing
I did want to highlight because like so through Blood
Round last year we followed Wyoming and I you know,
been I've known Scotti since he was in eighth grade,
you know, and his uh older brother wrestled at Michigan
and then ended up being at my high school. So
long story short, Like I followed both of those programs
really closely. I was really pumped about the duel. Here's

(05:07):
some of the results last year sixteen fifteen for Campbell
four to three for Campbell, UH four to two for
UH for Campbell nine to eight, Wyoming five four Wyoming
six five Wyoming. Like, these were really close matches. It
was a super exciting duel to watch and be a
part of it was it was you know, really really
really close back and forth. Looks like it was, uh,

(05:31):
I think four to six as far as like the
the wins for Campbell Overwholming, But I mean every match
was super close, so super exciting. But yeah, I mean
as far as you know, they've done that over the
last couple of years. I know, UNC hosted Michigan at
a ballpark a couple of years ago. I know Arizona's
games and I were both there.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Yeah, you know, yeah, it's pretty cool. It got really cold.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Yeah, it was chilling.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
Well that's the thing, right, And I think, you know,
some of the warmer areas, I know CSU Bakersfield has
done outdoor duels previously, and Arizona State I know has
done them. In fact, I think there was an ASU
CSU one that I'm thinking of, maybe specifically off Lanford. Yeah,
but it's like those are the things that you know

(06:17):
you have to do in order to bring people in, right,
And I think if we're going to go back to
specifically Campbell attendance, right, getting attendance up at events, whether
they're home or away or whatever. Just like boosting the
excitement for everybody. Those are one of the ways that
you can show your administration that like you've got support locally,
you've got alumni, you've got fans, you've got the things
that are going to keep that sport relevant at that institution,

(06:41):
and maybe more importantly, depending on who you're talking to,
piss them off if you try to take away from.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
It right exactly.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
So you know, those are the things. I mean, obviously
money helps, right as far as what people can contribute,
but if you know wherever you can contribute, if you're
in the area of a program, you should be there.

Speaker 5 (06:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
Yeah, it shows the marketability and you know how people
can be creative and still you know, bring wrestling to
a wider audience maybe and just think outside the box
a little bit.

Speaker 5 (07:09):
You know.

Speaker 6 (07:10):
I love Campbell for doing that, you know, because they're
not really a household name, you know, or in the
twenty twenty five ranking, you know, so they're not a
powerhouse for any means, right, but you know they're getting
eyes on them. People notice their program because of this
and you know, you know, we talk all the time
about marketability, how far it goes.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
And you know, I'm.

Speaker 6 (07:27):
Always talking to the Philadelphia teams, Penn and Drexel. Why
aren't you guys doing You guys are going to wrestle.
But if you do wrestle, let's wrestle at the at
the top of the Rocky Steps at the Art Museum.

Speaker 5 (07:37):
You know something.

Speaker 6 (07:39):
Places, Yeah, the chest, Yeah, I mean, stuff like that
can happen. But you know, it just takes two teams,
I think, to get together and you know do it.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
Yeah, that would be dope, Drexel and Penn in front
of the Rocky statue or like on the like on
the Rocky Steps. There's definitely enough room up there for
a matt definitely enough room there for some chairs and stuff.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
I don't know, ref.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
Hey, listen, I don't know what the logistics of it
would be, but I think that would be honestly dope
and a really cool atmosphere. They need to hit up
UFC Fight Pass and see what they could do to
make that happen. But yeah, just like the marketability of
these different teams. And you know, I posted that clip
the other day of of of Scott Goodell when I

(08:23):
talked to him where he's talking about selling tickets and like,
you know, if it's July four, you need to be
selling tickets. You need to be market you need to
have a fan base. And they have an amazing fan
base at Rutgers that fills that gym. But you know,
he mentioned, you know, they're even though they have an
amazing fan base, they're not a team that kind of
has a baked in. They're not an Oklahoma state, they're

(08:43):
not an Iowa, they're not Penn state. So for them
to get a little bit more creative and to bring
fans in and to create an atmosphere with do and
innovative ways of putting it in front of maybe the students.
You know, we did trip to Duke years ago and
Duke had a and this was I think Casper's senior

(09:05):
year and they had a a practice out on like
their their greenway in front of the chapel, so like
they were just trying to get it in front of people.
And matter of fact, I actually saw Zion Williamson walk
by on his way to class, so I can say
that the man did go to class and he was

(09:25):
a dude. Saw him then kids go to class, right,
but it was it was a way of getting that
out in front of the students. It was a way
of just like showcasing. Hey, like there's more sports here
than basketball, So like, I love what they're doing. I
think it's going to be an awesome dual. Kevin. You
alluded to how close those matches were last year. This

(09:48):
year there's there's what three ranked versus ranked matchups, and
I want to talk about the first one, one twenty five. Obviously,
you know we're we're gonna lean more towards Volk on
this one, but him versus Moulten at one twenty five,
that could be a really really good one because Moulten's
a guy that probably wants to come out and and

(10:08):
make a name for himself a little bit more. Right,
people know who he is, but he comes out and
he sparks a little something, you know, beaten Volt. Like
that'd be huge, that'd be really really big. What do
you guys think of the right off the bat? Once
twenty five is gonna be fireworks.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
I want to jump in rid just because I remember
watching it last year. It was wild. It was a
ton of scrambles, It was super exciting. He could almost
feel like Vulk was getting frustrated because he would almost
get the takedown and then Molten would scramble in and
then they'd kind of get back in neutral and all
of a sudden he'd be in on the leg and
all you know, it was. It was very, very exciting.

(10:42):
I mean, the twelve to five final score was not
indicative of how close the match really was at the
end of it, but it was. It was an exciting match.
And and you know, Moulten is a guy who's you know,
beating some of the better guys in the country. He's
he's right there and did he beat Rainmos his teammate,
right and he beat him last year? Am I thinking

(11:03):
of somebody else?

Speaker 1 (11:05):
I can't remember.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
I think that. I think that's all true. We're gonna
go with that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, But like I'm using
that as an example of like a top level guy
that he's he's competed against. Well, I'm gonna look that
up real quick.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
He's a scrapper. I like I like Molton a lot.
I like how he wrestles. I like how he you know,
comes out and and goes at guys, and you know,
like you said, it may have been twelve five, but
there was a lot of action in that match, and
I expect for there to be more action again. Right,
So guys chime in Austin, Robbie, what do you think
of this this first match, Like right off.

Speaker 5 (11:41):
The bat, Yeah, I think it's a good one.

Speaker 6 (11:45):
You know, Volkan was All American last year, you know,
so I think a little bit of a target on
his back from Moulton, and you know, just the whole
Campbell squad coming in. You definitely think they're gonna have
a little extra motivation after this, you know, the unfortunate
stuff that's going on there. You know, I think they
have they want to prove it that hey, we have
a long we deserve to have this wrestling squad and
all these scholarships and everything going on there.

Speaker 5 (12:07):
You know.

Speaker 6 (12:07):
So I think Molten and the whole fighting camels are
come out fighting.

Speaker 5 (12:11):
You know.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Yeah, I think it's one of those times where I'm
not always a fan of starting duels that with twenty
five and just going through in order. I think it
kind of it can definitely take away from the showmanship
of a duel, But this is one of those duels
where I think it should start at twenty five because this,
you know, we could have fireworks to start off the
duel and kind of like you hit on earlier, both

(12:32):
these teams are just going to throw it all out there.
They're not going to come in and be timid and
not try to go after points. So it should be,
you know, a great match to showcase right off the bat.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Yeah, these teams are definitely a product of their coaches,
right like their coaches, as we've seen, they're gonna they're
gonna talk trash. They've been talking trash. The marketing of
you know, like you said, what kind of style is?
Is Branch going to come out with a mustache and
a hat and I think he was wearing chaps and
stuff last year, Like it got serious and they they

(13:03):
go full costume and with this being on Halloween, there's
definitely going to be some character play and I think
it's going to be awesome. It seriously is a great
concept and I love what these guys are doing. Again.
The next one and I know, kind of skipping around,
but I'm just going to the rank versus ranked matchups
is the one at one ninety seven and it's it's

(13:27):
le By Hopkins and Joey Novak. Those are the two
guys that we have ranked in Novak is sixteen and
Hopkins is nineteen. Another ranked matchup, and then obviously at
heavyweight Goadali and Mitchell, Goadali coming in at number seven
and Mitchell at twenty five, so, you know, not as
close as the one ninety seven pound match, but still
like these are ranked versus ranked matchups. These guys are

(13:50):
are in the in the top what thirty three for
a reason, thirty two for a reason, and they are
guys that we think will be in that final bracket
of the year, you know, and it takes a lot
to get there. So what are your guys thoughts on
these these other two ranked versus ranked matchups? And are
there any other matchups that you guys have taken a

(14:13):
look at that you've noticed will be kind of good
or anything that you've that's kind of stood out to
you guys.

Speaker 4 (14:20):
I want to say it feels like Anthony and Rainlos
were high school teammates. That's what I was thinking of,
and it was a ten to six match, so very close. Sorry,
you're good.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
My thought process was that I feel like Hopkins has
been around forever and he's He's in his sixth year
at Gardner. Webb's a two time qualifier. I believe he
also had a brother, Helebdil Hopkins, who wrestled there as well.
They're both Alaska guys, too, correct, is that?

Speaker 4 (14:47):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (14:49):
So just kind of cool backstory, not know, not a
typical path from Alaska to Bouize Creek, North Carolina. Yeah,
so kind of a cool thing. He had a good match. Well,
I don't remember it or Caleb now that now that
I'm thinking of both brothers with Michael Bautista when they

(15:09):
wrestled GBA a couple of years ago. It was a
really good, really good back and forth match.

Speaker 4 (15:14):
Yeah, those guys are really good on top, those Hopkins.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
I like wrestling, Salmon, got it.

Speaker 6 (15:23):
I like the idea that Robbie was saying about starting
one twenty five because you got, you know, a ranked
match up there to start and at the end ninety
seven hadway two rank guys, you know, so I think
that's a good starting spot, Robbie, I think you should
talk to Coach Branch about that tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (15:38):
Because they're most of us.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
He's going to be talking about mustaches.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
That's this is this is a non traditional, so they
might not start at twenty five, right, they might start
at thirty three and have that match be last as
many fireworks as they were in it last year. But
I I am Goadali is a guy that I am
very interested in seeing this year. I saw him a

(16:03):
couple of years ago for the first time and he
was still very green heavyweight, wasn't even ranked at the time,
but they were really excited about what he was bringing.
And you know, he showed showcase some footwork and everything
else and he wrestled very well. But ever since then
he continues to jump levels and you know, now obviously
he's in the top ten and I think he's going

(16:25):
to have a big year. I can see him, you know,
knocking off some guys that are that are above him,
climbing in the rankings a little bit, and being on
the podium at the end of the year. So that's
the you know, not to say that Mitchell can't give
him a good run, but man, it's gonna be it's
Goadali's a tough out this year. He definitely not to
say that he wasn't last year, but it's going to

(16:45):
be even tougher for guys up against Godali this year.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
Well at his growth he started. You know, he's five
hundred as a freshman, he's a four time national qualifier,
broke through to make the pot hum last year, went
from seven to seven as a freshman to thirty five.
And last year like his his row with his outstanding.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
Yeah, he's he's been awesome. The first time I saw
him was at the Chipwah Challenges freshman year and it
came down to heavyweight, and I believe that was the year.
I think that was Stencil's fifth year, and so it
was like sweet, you got Matt Stencil against the freshman heavyweight.
Like sweet. It went into overtime and ended on a

(17:26):
stall call against Gatti Ali there and uh, yeah, we
you know, chip Wall's got to win. But I was like, damn,
this dude's like pushing him for real. He's athletic enough
to hang with him. He's he's big enough to hang
with him, and.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
He was undersized too back then, right right exactly.

Speaker 4 (17:43):
So yeah, he's been he's just gotten you know, better
every single year, you know, and and uh, obviously you know,
if you've heard any of his interviews, he talks about
how Campbell he credits a lot of you know, not
just his success on the map, but outside, you know,
in the classroom and everything else, to the foundation and
the program and the staff, so good stuff.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
There actually a really cool interview about his spiritual growth too,
that was that's definitely worth to listen if you guys
have a chance to listen to that.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
So who are we taking in this tool? Who we got?
Campbell or Wyoming?

Speaker 2 (18:15):
Powder River? Wyoming?

Speaker 1 (18:19):
No surprise there go figure Robbie has a Homer pick.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
Yeah, it's weird, right, Just wait till the other ones
we talked about.

Speaker 4 (18:28):
So I'm going Wyoming though too. And I think the
main reason is, uh, I.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Watched not just because you lived there.

Speaker 4 (18:36):
No, well, I watched the program all the last year,
you know, and I was pretty dialed in. And a
lot of the guys they had in the lineup at
the beginning of last year weren't in the lineup at
the end of last year. They had, you know, a
lot of a whole different crew of people getting in there.
A lot of improvement. I think I still have the
results up here. Hold on real quick. Yeah, So Gabe

(18:58):
Willershall was one of the guys one, but there was
a lot of guys changing, changing spots in the lineup
and getting opportunities. I know you already talked about him,
but Joey Novak was was an undersized one nine seven
last year. I know that was a big focus of
what they were gonna be doing with him over the summer.
But he's only gonna be that much more confident having
you know, made the tournament last year and everything else.

Speaker 5 (19:20):
Yeah, Awesin, I like the orange and black and Campbell go.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
Figure another Homer pick For those who don't know, those
are Austin's high school colors.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
Right now, what a coincidence?

Speaker 1 (19:37):
Uh, you know what I'm gonna I'm gonna go with.
I'm gonna go with Campbell as well. I'll make it
an even split and I'll go with Campbell as well,
and and you know we'll go two and two on
that one. And I think Campbell gets it done this year.
So yeah, Plus, like I said, I like I like it, Dolly,

(19:57):
I like the heavyweight. I've liked his s So I'm
gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna go with that. That will
be my reasoning is I'm a big fan of the
big guy coming from the from the Camels, the other
matches that we have are happening on Friday. I know
there's there's a ton of matches. I mean, obviously it's
the first week. Lots and lots of teams that are

(20:19):
gonna be in action. I think Indiana is headed out
to California. They have two duels out there in California.
But the two duels two other ones that I that
I have marked our North Dakota State versus Virginia at
Virginia and then Utah Valley at Stanford and not wearing

(20:39):
this because of that. But you know, we talked about
I honestly, I honestly might go with Utah Valley. I
don't know, I haven't haven't decided yet, haven't decided yet,
but no, honestly, like we had talked about how we
we couldn't wait to see what they were going to
do at Utah Valley, right, they have Baraclau there, new

(21:01):
coaching staff that we're really excited to see. And then
it's also I mean fairly new coaching staffs on both ends,
you know. So I'm I'm interested to see the growth
in a full year for the guys at Stanford, especially
with you know, new guy Hayden Hidley being there as
well for you know Aarson Gray and those guys. But

(21:22):
then you know the new coaching staff at Utah Valley
to see the kind of work that has already been
put in and where they are at this point in
the season compared to where they were last year. Right,
Adam Hall is a guy that is a developmental specialist.

Speaker 3 (21:37):
Right.

Speaker 1 (21:37):
We've seen him at NC State for a very long time,
do really well with recruiting, do really well with developing
guys that he was in the corner for, so you know,
and not only that, he's a guy that makes you
want to buy into the program because he just speaks
life into it, right, Like you talk to Adam Hall
and you're just like, this is a guy that I
would want to wrestle for. And that's you know, no

(22:02):
way could bear Claw pass that up when he was
looking to transfer, you know what I mean? Like that
just speaks to it. So that's the first match I
want to talk about. What are your guys thoughts on
Utah Valley at Stanford too? And it's a it's a
late one for them, I mean in California it's at
ten o'clock. It's a I think it's a ten o'clock
match for for us here or at least you guys

(22:22):
on the East Coast, it's a seven o'clock match for them.
But what are your guys thoughts on on this match
and what are you excited to see the.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
Hunter Garvin and bar Claw to kick off the season.
That's fantastic, Like when you're an All American in Hunter Garvin,
you have, you know, on unknown because we know what
his potential is, but some unseen potential from from bar
Claw into a new program. I think that's a hell

(22:50):
of way to kick it off.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
Yeah, that's gonna be a very good match.

Speaker 6 (22:58):
Yeah, I'm excited just to see what coach Paul can
do there, you know, being new with a new staff
and you know, obviously it's going to take some years
for that program to develop. But you know, he comes
out against Stanford, who's a pretty well known ranked entity,
right we kind of know what they are, but still
pretty new.

Speaker 5 (23:14):
On their end.

Speaker 6 (23:14):
You know, Chris Haryri's got there about a month ago
or sorry, a year ago now and just kind of
finished up some new buyers there and you know it's
so it's still a little bit of an unknown, but
we know Stanford of an overall product is set in
stone pretty much. But you tell Alli, you know, they
come away with two, three, maybe four matches out of there.

(23:34):
You know, I think that that's a good, good showing
for you tall Ally.

Speaker 4 (23:40):
I mean it's exciting for both programs. You know, year
two and and you know, really we just kind of
closed out year one of Airs, like you said, and
you know, both of these coaches and staffs are really
just trying to get their guys to completely buy into
the system at this point still, right, I mean, even
a year in, I'm sure there's still guys who are
like figuring it out and figuring out what the expectations

(24:01):
are going to be long term at Stanford. And you know,
you saw those guys had a lot of success at
the end of last year too, so they've got enough
a leg to stand on for sure.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
Yeah. I mean that that match at sixty five, I
mean Garvin number three, very Claude number seven, like top
ten matchup to start the season. That's amazing, right, That's awesome.
That's not something that you really get because in the
in the new world of sports, you have i mean
in basketball, you've got load management and a little bit

(24:32):
of it creeped into the wrestling world over the last
couple of years, where you've seen guys sit out right,
a lot of people were really upset with Cornell doing
that up against Iowa State last year, right, and it's
it's you know, not the throwny shots at Gray, but
you know, he said that the that his guys got hurt,
you know, and they had gotten dinged up in the
previous matches, Well, that's really unfortunate. But I love the

(24:55):
fact that they are. I mean, they're putting it on
the line early. And to see Bara Claw in the
lineup consistently for the first time in his career is
also going to be amazing because everybody has had him
peg to be an All American for a very long time.
So I think that match is going to be really
really good. Not you know, not not too familiar with

(25:19):
the rest of the guys in the lineup as of yet.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
The thirty three and forty one should both be pretty
good matchups. Tyler Knox will be a first year starter
for Stanford. He's got case Smaugert. Then Jason Randa's longtime
starter for them. But should I think makes some make
some strides This year and Hayden Dreury. That should be
a pretty good match as well.

Speaker 1 (25:41):
It should be fun. So we going homer picks or what.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
Yeah, yeah, I'm taking nothing gets out there because I
love Adam Hall and I think he's going to do
a hell of the job at Utah Valley. But he inherited. Yeah,
he's got to build and this is the you know,
first step four. But I think they'll be competitive. I
think they'll be scrappy. That's just kind of how he rolls.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
Yeah, I agree, but I'm taking Stanford as well.

Speaker 4 (26:10):
Yeah, that's the big agreed.

Speaker 1 (26:12):
That is the pick. The other one, like I said,
was North Dakota State at Virginia, and I mean basically
another fairly new coach. I mean I think what Obie
has been there for three years, a couple of years now, right,
so it's been this is last his first year, this

(26:34):
last first year as a head coach.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
I thought it was a second question.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
No, last year was definitely his first year as a
head coach. Yeah, because I remember I remember getting on
the phone with him, yeah, a year ago. So yeah,
he's another basically a new regime, been there for he's
been there for quite a while. Obviously as an assistant,
but you know he's been the head hotter now for
for a little bit. But Robbie, give us the lowdown

(26:58):
on Virginia. Where are their strong points, who are some
of the guys that they're looking to see really step up,
and and what are the what are the expectations.

Speaker 2 (27:10):
Well, first off, I'm I'm pretty pumped because I'm going
to be there. I our travel schedule changed for this
weekend and I initially wasn't going to be able to go,
So I'm I'm pretty pretty happy that I'll get to
see that there you.

Speaker 4 (27:23):
Go, supporting in person. Just what we were talking about.

Speaker 2 (27:25):
How that works.

Speaker 4 (27:26):
I was.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
I sent a message to my wife about it earlier
today to let her know. And they're not holding in
their typical gym. They're holding it the Quantic and Fitness
Center where their pool is, and that's where our kids
did swimming lessons. So I was like, you know, the
duel is going to be at the pool. She said,
they're wrestling in a pool. I said, well, not fucking awesome,
but no, they're not wrestling.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
That's water polo.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
Yeah no, but it should be a really fun duel.
They're both they're really tied tool last year in North Dakota,
returning the favor coming out here that they're going to
do an early duel on Friday, So I might have
to sneak out of work early if a the LA
employers see this, I have an appointment. But it's four

(28:10):
o'clock duel. Should be pretty competitive, honestly, and then both
of them are packing up and going down to the
Southeast Open on Saturday, so should be a fun one.
As far as what to watch for, you know what
I've been hitting on is there the lightweights for UVA
are really going to be in flux throughout this first semester.

(28:30):
There's going to be a lot of late in the
game kind of weight changes, just guys who they thought
were going to be able to be down to a
certain weight and and aren't going to be able to
get there, so they're they're just shifting some things around.
But at the wrestle offs last week, super impressed with
Kiban Roller getting all the way down to twenty five.
He's going to be super dangerous. He's he's really really

(28:52):
quick at twenty five, So starting off early that should
be good. I'm kind of looking through as far as
good matches. Kyle Burdwick, Marlin your Yarborough will be a
fantastic match if it happens. I'm not sure if Mo's
gonna go or if we'll see Cody Goodwin's boy Gable
Porter who won the rest of off last week. So

(29:15):
that should be that should be a good match there.
There's nothing that really stands out as a super you know,
high high calber match. But they're all pretty evenly matched
up as far as kind of you know, where they
would fall in rankings. So it should be just a
tight le overall and should be really competitive.

Speaker 4 (29:35):
And it's in a pool, and so it is in
a pool.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
See that you got that for you.

Speaker 4 (29:39):
It's an added element to it.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
We'll see who can tread water the best.

Speaker 6 (29:45):
Yeah, I'm on, I'm on wrestle stat here, Robbie, and
it says North Dakota State nineteen to thirteen over Virginia
or whatever that's worth. But you know that's that's one
match that could go either way. Yeah, you know, so, Yeah,
I think I agree with you. It's gonna be pretty
close toss up here. And I like thirty three as
you said, Berwick and Yarborough. If Yarborough does go. I
think that that's the how it natch least in my eyes.

Speaker 2 (30:09):
Forty one will be sneaky good too, because it's not
gonna be Jack Geoffrey because he's moving up to forty nine.
Most likely it'll probably be Kyrien Butler and Kellen marsh
which should also be a pretty good match. Butler got
a pin when he was up like sixteen to three,
I think, in his wrestler, so that should be a
fun one too. I was super impressed. A guy to

(30:33):
watch out for this year is Rococontina at seventy four
is a Buchanan guy California, has kind of been injured
throughout his time in Charlottesville and is finally healthy, and
I think he's going to have a good season, So
that's going to keep an eye on.

Speaker 5 (30:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (30:48):
I was watching Garland's recap and he was pretty high
on him and his ability to compete in there during
the wrestle off, so.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
Yeah, he looked really good.

Speaker 4 (30:59):
Anybody who doesn't like follow Virginia Wrestling, you totally should
because when Garland jumps on there, he's He's just a
ball of energy, super passionate and always posting good stuff
and giving updates so they're a very fun program to follow.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
You also come away like bruised in your midsection and
anytime you talked to him because he's like constantly shaking
you and and punching you to the side.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
Is it like like when you see John Reader? Is
it anything like that.

Speaker 4 (31:25):
Or is it?

Speaker 2 (31:26):
Yeah? But Readers like three Garlands.

Speaker 1 (31:29):
Yeah, Reader does not know how strong he is, big dog.
He's super excited all the time. Yeah, that's that's rough.
The next duel I want, I want to see the
acc and e I w a sit here and argue
because it's Navy versus Pitt It happens on Saturday, and

(31:50):
I would like to know what are the matches that
you guys have your eyes on and you know, fight
it out. Honestly see an argument. So how about it,
Austin Robbie, I want to listen to to to the
guys that cover these conferences. What are your thoughts on
Navy versus Pitt?

Speaker 5 (32:09):
Well, Navy, he looks not away with the win last year.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
Yeah, they've had some tight rules.

Speaker 6 (32:14):
They Yeah, they started off. I was talking to coach
Cole lot about it. You know, they started off I
think six or seven and zero and they lost, like
you know, four or five straight. It comes second semester,
so I think he's he's still chanting out. According to him,
he's not changing the schedule. He's not going to let
that affect it. I think they had some injuries and
maybe might tweak the training a little bit, but the schedule,

(32:35):
he's still going at it. Obviously wrestling, you know, a
top twenty five team in pit right off the bat
is evidence to that. And yeah, I think it's it's
going to be a good one. I think obviously I'm
going to take Navy, but you know, just to because
they won again last year. I think forty one is
one to look out for. Cortor Hunt and Navy is
around the sixteen guy. And you know Pitt probably has

(32:57):
Santoniello in there. Yeah, he's formerly I don't know if
it was hand or his cousin was formerly.

Speaker 5 (33:03):
At Navy brother and his brother, Yeah, his brother was there,
so yeah, there was some bad blood between those two.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
Yeah. No, I think got the Santennials back to back.
Vinnie at thirty three and uh Anthony, who's going to
be I was starting as a rechert freshman rechard last
year at forty one Vinie was at prep school at
at Navy before he transferred to Pitt and like a

(33:32):
five hundred season last year, had some injuries he battled through,
but super both of them have a ton of potential
and could be really really good. Forty one is definitely
one to watch. Definitely favorite codeer ant. There another one
to keep an eye on as we're looking through. Last
year was a really good match Luca Augustine and Danny

(33:53):
wask at seventy four. And yeah, Luca's somebody had been
super high on. He's just hasn't broken through yet. And
you know, talking with Gavin is that's that's a guy
that he's really high on this year, and you know,
he said he's making the changes he needed to make
that she gets to the next level. So I'm excited
to see if he's able to do that. And he's
gonna have a tough test right.

Speaker 6 (34:15):
Off the bat, those in those two split matches last
year throughout the season, so this good rubber match for him.

Speaker 2 (34:20):
Yep. Yeah, I think I would highly favor pit and
especially at the upperweights. I think Stout and pits are
are are both pretty pretty solid and they're gonna do
some big things. I'd give Reselle with the edge at
eighty four, just experience wise. It's his fifth or six

(34:41):
years transferred from Hofstrup, so he'll be a in his
final season there. So I would definitely favor Pit in
this one. Russell Satt doesn't have it very close. I
would give the edge and the lighter weights the Navy,
and then if the upper weights to Pit. But I
think it could be a a competitive duel the last

(35:01):
couple of years, so I would expect that again this
year too.

Speaker 5 (35:04):
Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 6 (35:05):
I think Pit's the favorite on paper, and I think
it's a Pit this year, right, so maybe a little
hopeful advantage too. But I gotta stick with Navy. You
know they beat them last year. They tend to start
off really hot. Yeah, I just I think Navy is
gonna come away with it, and.

Speaker 2 (35:23):
Because they're so excited to be off the boots.

Speaker 5 (35:25):
There we got there, we go?

Speaker 6 (35:26):
You know there are they taking the river up and
getting off at the pit there?

Speaker 4 (35:32):
Yeah, how about a not tying competition. Guys changed the game.
I'm gonna jump in too. I'm gonna go with Pittsburgh. Yeah,
just because Keith Gavin beat Steve Luke in the n
CUAA finals, and that's not easy to do.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
If you ever have the experience of feeling Keith Keith's
arm drag, it's not pleasant at all. I don't recommend it.
It's not not very fun on the shoulder joints. Well,
I have to Yeah, he did a clinic for me
one year when he was coaching at Uba, and I
got to be his practice dummy, and you know, four

(36:10):
shoulder surgers later, mine don't work very well and I
was definitely feeling that for the next couple of days.

Speaker 1 (36:19):
I think it was a good time.

Speaker 2 (36:21):
Yeah, except for me. Good time was had by all
except for me.

Speaker 4 (36:25):
Kid learned a lot, did it for the kids.

Speaker 1 (36:31):
Okay, so we've got a little bit. I gotta I
gotta put my picking. I'm I'm gonna go Navy, and
I'm going off of last year's how things went last year.
I think with I think Navy, as as you said, Rabbi,
they're going to be favored in the lower weights, and
I think there's gonna be like maybe one, one or

(36:51):
two bonus point wins. That's the difference that that kind
of tips the scale in Navy's favor. So yeah, that's
That's kind of my thought on the whole ordeal. And
then the next one we've got is is all Big twelve,
and it's kind of surprising to see teams wrestling each
other like a conference duel start the season. Missouri Northern Colorado.

(37:17):
This is going to be pretty good. There's some there's
some really good ranked matchups in this one. I mean,
right off the bat, at one twenty five, you have
a ranked matchup again, right Steve o'puoland, who had a
really down year last year. It was it was a
very awkward time where I mean he went from winning
Big Twelves the year before to I don't even know

(37:41):
if did he even really place. I think he made
it on made the NCAA's with like a like a bid, right.

Speaker 4 (37:48):
I think he ended up getting like six or something.

Speaker 1 (37:53):
Yeah, it wasn't, it was not.

Speaker 4 (37:56):
We just talked about this the other day and I
was looking up Tanner Jordan at the Big Twelves and
I think, yeah, I think he ended up not doing great.

Speaker 1 (38:04):
So yeah, it can definitely.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
Tara Kena and Jet Strickenberger at the Big Twelves last year.
He made the round with twelve last year, though, so
I mean he had done it not the best note,
but Certainly didn't have a bad performance and instead oflized it.

Speaker 4 (38:17):
Close to a really good note.

Speaker 1 (38:19):
Yeah, but I mean he's got Noah certain certain obviously
comes in rank sixteenth, and we've seen we've seen Certain
have like really good matches, but we've also seen him
do kind of the same thing that STEVEO did last
year too, So it's it's a matter of which one
of these guys has shook those those those ghosts away,

(38:41):
got rid of the cobweb, so to speak, and comes
out ready to wrestle. Obviously it favors Lin with him
being ranked higher, but if if everything is working for Certain,
it's he's really tough to beat. But I'm I'm really
in to see if the see what pulling we saw

(39:02):
at Big Twelves is now gone and it's the Stevo
that we saw Big Twelves a year prior. But no,
I think this is going to be a really good match,
a really good duel. There's a couple of a couple
other obviously ranked matchups, but the return of Alirez I
think is going to be awesome to see see how

(39:23):
he how he is back on the folk style match
it's obviously been quite a while. He's got Josh Edmond,
who's the top fifteen guy, so pretty fairly good test
to start things off with a guy that is ranked.
But as I said, it's been it's been all freestyle
for him for a very long time. And obviously there's
not much of a difference between freestyle and folks style.

(39:45):
It's still the basically the same premise and moves, but
it's it's different when it comes to control, it's different
when when it comes to positioning and things like that too,
So I'm interested to see how he transitioned back into
the folks style ranks of things. And then obviously it's
going to be our first time seeing Keegan o'tool up

(40:05):
at one seventy four as well, So obviously those are
the those are the guys that everybody is most likely
going to be watching and seeing how they do first
time in the lineup, with as I said, Elyris coming back,
and then Keegan o'tool being up at one seventy four
for the first time as well, even though we did

(40:25):
just see him at the trials, being up a little
bit different now a little bit you know that that
he's going to be in the lineup and having to
make that weight for the first time too. What are
some of the things that you guys are looking for.
I'm taking Missouri in this one, but what are some
of the things that you guys are looking for in
this match?

Speaker 6 (40:43):
I mean, on on paper, both in Colorado is favored
and for the first five matches. You know, I think,
you know, fifty seventy of Vinnie Zertun. You know, what
was his second seed last year NCAA's and I think
he was round to twelve or something, right, So looking
at Deem himself there and forty one, like you said,
Alirez thirty three, Serrano over more. I mean that's a

(41:07):
toss up, but you know, Serrano a little bit highly
more ranked, and we talked one.

Speaker 4 (41:11):
Twenty five, but I forgot about more.

Speaker 5 (41:14):
He's back, Yeah, after a stabbing of some sort.

Speaker 1 (41:18):
You know, last year, there was there was a lot
of craziness that went on last year.

Speaker 2 (41:23):
Hopefully all those minds were he completely forgotten about that.

Speaker 5 (41:26):
Yeah, I mean, but I'm excited to see out of
Bouciellow back.

Speaker 6 (41:30):
You know, he ended up yeah, you know, he was,
you know, committed to Penn State as like an eighth grader,
and then Arizona State and this and that, and now
he's here, so well, this curs out. If he's a
full size, one forty nine pounder, what's gonna what's gonna
what that's gonna look like.

Speaker 5 (41:44):
But they could potentially sweep the first five and make
it interesting.

Speaker 1 (41:48):
Yeah, very very true.

Speaker 2 (41:50):
Luciellow was a huge recruit. Committed to Penn State, was
there for a year. I remember, I'm actually competing there,
and then Queen Need College for a couple of years,
and then North Carolina than now in North Colorado. Now,
so he's he's been kind of all over. Be very
interesting to see what he looks like.

Speaker 1 (42:10):
Yeah, he did a year of like you said, he
was at community college. I talked to him last year
when he committed to go to Northern Colorado and just
talked to him about what what those years were like.
And I think he was training with Gregor Gillespie and
just trying to put in the work right. And now

(42:31):
he's had a year being back in a lineup and
being back in a college room, and so it certainly
will be interesting to see him now that he has
kind of kind of his legs back under him as well.
That's a that's a good stat or at least a
good anecdote of Lucielo back in the lineup too.

Speaker 2 (42:52):
And he'll have Logan Geoffrey, who was a qualifier last
year and as the brother of the two Geoffrey, the
twin brothers who are at Uba, so Logan Will it'd
be a good match. I mean, he's got some got
some talent.

Speaker 4 (43:07):
Yeah, I know that they do a really good job
of developing talent. They're at Northern Colorado too, you know.
I mean, when when the guy who ends up winning
the NCAA title drops down to your weight class, it's
kind of tough to want to stick around. But like
they had guys like Mosha Schwartz who ended up transferring
to Oklahoma as well. They've done a good job developing talent,

(43:27):
so it's not just the aleras show. I do think, yeah,
probably Missouri's favored to win the duel overall, and I
like think likely will. But yeah, Northern Colorado, everything they've
done over the last several years needs to be you know, commended.
Five years ago we had been like okay, shut out, sweet,

(43:49):
moving on, Like we wouldn't have talked about this exactly.

Speaker 1 (43:53):
Yeah, it's the back half that I think Missouri can
pick up some ground.

Speaker 5 (43:58):
You know.

Speaker 1 (43:58):
Also, as you said, Northern Colorado was favored in those
first couple of matches, so they're gonna have to you know,
I'm I'm looking bonus points at one seventy four and
probably a couple more of those those heavier weight But man,
it is going to be a very good duel. And
like I said, I am surprised that they would want
to face off this early in the season because most

(44:20):
teams aren't doing any in conference duel meets that. I mean,
there there might be some others obviously, but not of
this caliber right where you have such like you know,
very good development teams that are in development facing off
this early. What are your guys picks? Like I said,
I took Missouri. What are you guys thinking, Miszoo?

Speaker 6 (44:44):
Yeah, I think it's gonna be too much from a
Zoo up top And speaking of up top, on sixty five,
Clayton Olray making an appearance in Northern Colorado after being
every chance text I'm good to see you in there too.

Speaker 2 (44:56):
We'll see I mean, it's get a lot of potential.
Who never Yeah, really broke through that next level at Tech.

Speaker 5 (45:03):
Like he was in between Waits a little bit too.
I couldn't really.

Speaker 2 (45:05):
Find Yay seventy sixty five. Him and Connor Brady kind
of going back and forth. He's a nice kid. He'd
like to see him have a successful year. Definitely gonna
go with Missouri. But the fact that the UNC heavyweights
name is Remington, it is pretty awesome. So guy Remington

(45:26):
Peterson a close though.

Speaker 1 (45:31):
Yeah, we probably got to make an all name team,
don't we. I just saw a basketball all name team
the other day.

Speaker 2 (45:37):
Yeah, that was amazing that graphic.

Speaker 1 (45:39):
Yeah, the one guy's name is Tennessee Rainwater. Pretty great,
long name too, pretty awesome. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (45:50):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (45:51):
Anyway back to wrestling Iowa and Oregon State and this
is this is this is pretty awesome honestly, that these
two teams are wrestling and IWA is traveling to Oregon State.
Mind you, this isn't something that's going down at at
Carver normally. You know, you have a team like Oregon State,

(46:12):
not nothing against Pendleton, but you have a team of
Oregon State traveling to these blue collar schools, right, these
schools that have these immense fan bases. So the fact
that I would be like, no, we're gonna start off
our year. We're gonna travel to Oregon State. And you know,
Pendleton talked the other day about how what was it
they wrestle was it Penn State last year?

Speaker 5 (46:33):
I think?

Speaker 1 (46:34):
And they did huge numbers and their ads are like,
we got to do it again, We got to make
this happen again. So, you know, speaking of marketing and
doing all those things, this is another one that these
teams are marketing the bigger duels and the bigger fan
bases as they bring them into town. It's, you know,

(46:57):
another reason why we've seen Lee High do the things
that they're doing. When Penn State comes, they're going to
be a PP and L center, right, So like just
having the smaller teams making sure that they're marketing the
correct way when you are bringing in a top five,
top ten team. So but this is this is going
to be great.

Speaker 5 (47:16):
You know.

Speaker 1 (47:16):
I love everything that Pendleton has been doing. Him and
him and Nate obviously really really great coaches and those guys.
They have been developing guys very very well. My favorite
guy on their team is Matt Olgan. And I'm not
even going to shy away from it when you know,
I met Matt Olgan when when he was a tiny,

(47:37):
little one hundred and three one hundred and six pound
freshman at Buchanan and you know those guys out there,
the Tarapellis and Gabe Flores, We're saying he's going to
be the next whatever, Right, He's going to be awesome.
He goes on to you know, do the great things
that he did in California, and now he's at Oregon State,
you know, with another California coach in Pendleton, and I

(47:58):
love the development that he's been that he's been able
to do over the years, not just when he was
in high school and growing into you know, the kid
that he is now because he's enormous, but just being
a really good college wrestler as well. And that's been
what's been awesome to see is how he's grown and
how he's really started to develop. So I'm always looking

(48:19):
out for for Matt Olgean and he's a guy I
always want to see do really, really well. But overall,
I love this duel. Like I said, I love that
iways taking the trip and that Oregon State is marketing
the way that they are and trying to build a coliseum.

Speaker 2 (48:35):
I mean, one ninety seven is worth a press of admission.
That's going to be a fantastic matchup. And Trey mun
Yos and Stephen Buchanan, yeah, multiple too, multiple time all
Americans got go and ask for each other. So that'll
be a fun one.

Speaker 4 (48:49):
Yeah, And with you know, bumping up to ninety seven,
I'm excited to see how he's going to do against
the guy who's you know, had his career there and
is clearly the one ninety seven, full sized candy Barber
version of it, right Halloween style.

Speaker 1 (49:04):
But you gotta think that when they scheduled this one
specifically Pendleton. When Pendleton went out and got this one,
he had one ninety seven in mind, whether it was
Glacier or whether it was Buchanan. He definitely said, you know,
I want to make sure that Trey is getting the
competition that he wants. Obviously, that's the guy that you
are building your program around. So you're gonna go out

(49:26):
and you're gonna you're gonna get the these top guys
for him to to take on. So man, I love that.
I love that match. I think it's gonna be awesome.
I can't wait to see how Munos steps up and
and to a to a guy that is higher rank
than him. I think it's a honestly a pretty even,
pretty even dual, or excuse me, a pretty even match,
even though they're what two and seven. So, but I

(49:49):
think it's gonna be really good. I think it's gonna
come down to one or two points in that match, right.
It's it's a it's a takedown. It's an escape, you know,
it's it's a reversal, it's something, it's it's within a
takedown that I think that this match happens any other
matches that are sticking out to you guys, I.

Speaker 2 (50:08):
Mean, I think you hit it. Ogain and Kellyando would
be a big one.

Speaker 4 (50:11):
Yeah, I was just looking at one seventy four real quick.
I mean, Gave Arnold has been a super freak, so
I don't expect it to necessarily be particularly close. But
Oregon State does have a guy in Sean Harmon Senior
ranked in there. You know it's not going to be
a walkover for a game by any means.

Speaker 1 (50:29):
Yeah, And that's the thing is Gave Arnold being in
the lineup now, or at least slated to be in
the lineup. I mean last week the ranking said it
was Kennedy that was that was ranked, and now this week,
you know, Earl switches it. So there's got to be
some indication there that says that it's it's Gave Arnold's

(50:49):
world that we're living in at this point. So very
interesting to see how I what handles their logjam with
brands Kennedy and and also gave Arnold in that seventy
four eighty four weight class. And then I mean also
obviously he's red shirting, but you have a Ferrari that's
in your lineup there too, who said that he was

(51:11):
going to be out to get everyone at one seventy
four or whatever coming in as a freshman. But you know,
let's let's be let's be serious. There's some big dogs
in front of you that that need to eat before
you do to you know, put it frank, But man,
I am very high on Gay Arnold. Had a chance

(51:31):
to see him up close and when he was in
high school and obviously everything that he was able to do,
wrestling in those couple of duels and then wrestling in
some of the opens last year. I can't wait to
see what what he does.

Speaker 6 (51:44):
I'm interested to see just this Iowa lineup that's so
new overall. I mean, there's one person returning from the
weight class they were at last year. When's the last
time that's happened at Iowa?

Speaker 7 (51:54):
Right?

Speaker 5 (51:54):
I all is up to.

Speaker 6 (51:55):
Thirty three and then teamers a transfer Parco a transfer
you can't and you know, just going down the line
is not only one person, one person from last year
is at the same weight classes as which is very
rare I think in all of call dressing.

Speaker 1 (52:09):
Meadalone Iowa and Keeters in the lineup now too, right,
and he had a full year of focusing on nothing
but wrestling, So that's a that's an even even bigger
thing too, is him and gave Arnold were that one
two tandem coming in where we had very high hopes
for them, and you know, each of them will definitely
be getting the chance to to step up and be
in the lineup and have even more of a say

(52:31):
in in in the in each one of their weight classes.
Instead of just talking big, they'll have a chance to
actually get out there and do it. Mind you, I
hope that they do. Bump gave Arnold up this year
for the pennce. They Douel, even though they sat him
last year. I mean, it would be awesome to see him.
Let's back up some of the some of the talking

(52:51):
that was done.

Speaker 4 (52:53):
Yeah, we're talking trash.

Speaker 7 (52:54):
It's it's got to them ount to something, you know,
biggest den the Ferrari this weekend, we do we do right?

Speaker 1 (53:05):
That should be that should be fun. The trash talk.
All the emojis on the line, all the emojis on
the line.

Speaker 4 (53:12):
Does that include the emoji movie? That's a good movie.
I don't lose that.

Speaker 2 (53:19):
That might be the most dead thing you ever said.

Speaker 4 (53:21):
It also might be the most like. It also might
be the most like recent and relevant reference I've ever
made here.

Speaker 5 (53:29):
That is true.

Speaker 4 (53:30):
Let's let's let's let's focus on the positives.

Speaker 2 (53:33):
Robbie Kevin, I'm just rating.

Speaker 1 (53:35):
Does your shirt have a cape on it?

Speaker 2 (53:37):
Yes? Does?

Speaker 4 (53:37):
Yes? I I'm disappointed that you guys didn't dress up.
I told you I was going to it was either
this or a Ray Mysterio mask. And I was like,
I'll wear this the whole time. I probably wouldn't wear
the Rain Mysterio mask.

Speaker 1 (53:49):
I I did not. I did not realize And I'm like,
and I thought it was the chair at first, and
as you're talking, I'm like, like, I know, I know
that he's got a superman. They did not realize that
it has a cape to it.

Speaker 2 (54:04):
I actually have you should have had.

Speaker 1 (54:09):
Had I known, I would have, I would have dug
through the crate in my closet here and pulled out
that I have an Atlanta Falcons Lutra door mask that
Nate Angle sent me when he was on vacation in Mexico.
I saw this and I knew you had to have it,
so he sent it to me while he was on vacation.
I'm like, go have fun with your wife. You should

(54:30):
not be buying me anything when you're on vacation. This
was years ago, this was like twenty fifteen, twenty sixteen,
and it's it's just it's a red and black Lutra
door mask and it has a Falcons Falcons logo right
in the middle of the forehead. So had I known,
I would I would have put it on. Maybe maybe
because it is Halloween, maybe this weekend I do it.

(54:51):
But no, I wish I would have known. I would
have definitely busted that one out. But I just I'm
like looking and I'm like, what is on his I
thought it was the chair for the longest time that
you sat for a little bit more. Yeah, that is
that is a supermane kid like it. Happy Halloween people,
Happy freaking Halloween. Yeah yeah, I am thirty seven years

(55:15):
old as people are watching this. So yeah, any other
thoughts on Oregon State and Iowa. I mean, I'm taking
Iowa to win this, but it is you know, as
Austin said, it is a completely rebuilt r in Iowa, right, Like,

(55:36):
the only thing that is the same purchased, right That's
exactly what I was going for. They restored the car
and the only thing that is that is the same
is maybe the shifter looks the same. That's the only
piece of the car that looks. Everything else. There's some
there's some shiny new rims on it that they got
from Arizona.

Speaker 2 (55:57):
You know, there's there's a you know, a really high fees.

Speaker 1 (56:00):
For Listen, the insurance I'm sure alone, is not pocket
change on this brand new What what kind of car
would it be if if Iowa was a car, a
restored car, what kind of car would it be?

Speaker 5 (56:15):
Definitely not a Ferrari.

Speaker 4 (56:18):
Is not a Ferrari.

Speaker 2 (56:21):
Yea one of those cars you just make from different people.

Speaker 1 (56:24):
Oh, I think we can end the show on that
one I I got. I got nothing else after that,
but yeah, what what would that be?

Speaker 4 (56:32):
One one thing? The first thing that popped in mind
was the again old reference but the car that Kim
Allen on Tool Time restored. I think it was like
an old Ford something. But like when I think of
old cool restored cars, that's the first thing that comes
to mind. But I think more importantly, both Iowa and
South Dakota State will be at the Soldier Soldier Salute

(56:54):
this year, So that should make for some very exciting
potential matchup.

Speaker 1 (57:02):
Should we see.

Speaker 4 (57:03):
We'll see who shows up.

Speaker 1 (57:04):
Another fun one at one ninety seven. Should be a
good time, should be a very very good time. But yeah,
I'm you know, taking Iowa obviously, I think all of
us are are taking Iowa and you know in this one.
But one ninety seven is going to be really really cool.
And obviously seeing the rest of their lineup and and
how things pan out with with all these new cool

(57:27):
toys and new parts that that are on this car
is going to be really really cool. But that maybe
that's a maybe that's a segment that we do we
pick a team and we we all figure out what
car would that team be and it'll always be a
random team. Well in the show that way, random team,
what car would that explains that that team?

Speaker 4 (57:45):
Real quick? Cal State Bakersfield. I'm not going as the
Soldier salute.

Speaker 1 (57:52):
That could have been awesome.

Speaker 4 (57:53):
That would have been to watch it.

Speaker 1 (57:56):
Yeah, if shoulders, if Soldiers salute knew what they were doing,
that would have been the most watched open outside of
Midlands and scuffle that we've seen in a very very
long time because it would have been so kind. There
was certainly some slues. Yeah, that would have been a

(58:17):
good time. That would have been a good time. But yeah,
do is cal State in Iowa anywhere? Or do any
of these teams cross paths throughout the year. We'll have
to take a look at that. I haven't.

Speaker 4 (58:29):
Haven't I just closed one of them. I don't.

Speaker 1 (58:32):
I haven't looked at all that the full schedules to
see if they're they're going to be. The hard part
is is you know the opens and stuff and knowing
who's going to what opens and what tournaments and stuff
like that.

Speaker 2 (58:43):
But yeah, this is does it change anything? When stem
it steals all the emojis. Does that take away some
of the allure?

Speaker 1 (58:50):
It takes It certainly takes away the trash talk.

Speaker 2 (58:53):
Lots of smoke is gone, though, gone.

Speaker 1 (58:56):
That red car getting retired is going to be tough,
going to be a tough time, that is for sure.
A lot on the line. Man's whole language could be gone.

Speaker 2 (59:15):
This year.

Speaker 1 (59:16):
It hasn't even started yet, and there's already so many storylines,
so many storylines. Not to say that other years don't,
but I think this year, in particular, it's a little
bit more fun, a little bit, a little bit. They
cranked the dial up. We've got some trash talk coming
out of State College. We got some trash talk coming
out of California, two ways coming out of California. So

(59:36):
I think it could be it could be a good time.
It could definitely be a good time. Are there any matches,
any other matches happening in any of your respective conferences,
any dual meets, or maybe even guys that are going
to be at opens that you're looking forward to seeing
this weekend.

Speaker 4 (59:54):
One thing I wanted to shout out so before I
came on here. So America is hosting Michigan State this Saturday.
So I'm excited for that. I know they they you know,
as Burrelli's gotten to the program, and you know, they're
they're setting goals and they're trying to get after Big
ten teams and they're trying to you know, do what
they can to get better, and they're you know, I

(01:00:15):
was literally just on basically a call with a bunch
of their alumni and donors and things like that, and
you know, they're talking about the program, some of the
facilities they're building. Uh, you know, they have their captains
on the call, talking about you know, why they like
being there, what caused them to go to there to
begin with, you know, what they've been working on, and
just answering some general questions about the state of the

(01:00:38):
union of the team. Basically the athletic director was on there.
I mean, it was a really awesome call, and they
really just talked about like they're going to Penn State
this year to wrestle them and they're what they want
to like see what they're doing and then do that
right like he's just said, than done. But it really
just got me to completely and you know, they emphasize

(01:00:59):
some of the same things I talked about earlier, right,
if you can donate some money towards the programs, help
out if you can't be there in person and be
be present. But you know, I'm just really impressed with
what they're doing and over the years, what he inherited
versus what they you know, on paper, could be this year.
So that's what I'm going to be really watching out
for as the results of of kind of how that

(01:01:21):
that ends up.

Speaker 1 (01:01:24):
Could be fun. Robbie Alston, any anything in your respective
conferences that you guys are looking out for this at
least this weekend, Go ahead, Robbie.

Speaker 2 (01:01:33):
Virginia Tech, ut Chattan Nougat are gonna duel and then
most of the a SEC teams will have at least
some representation, if not their full squad at the Southeast OPE,
And shout out to my guys at Rono College. The
Yets are running the show at South the Southeast OPA

(01:01:53):
this year. That's going to be a good open. There's
there's gonna be some solid matchups there. There's always a
fun thing to start the year with, but there's there's
gonna be some some potential really good matchups early on.

Speaker 6 (01:02:06):
Yeah and Sunday at least from my end, Princeton Open
is usually good Army, Columbia, Drexel, Hofstra, Lee, High, Lock
Can Princeton, and Ryder plus a bunch of you know,
unattached people, so that that should be good.

Speaker 4 (01:02:20):
Duel.

Speaker 5 (01:02:20):
I'm interested in, though, is Buttnell and Maryland on Sunday.

Speaker 6 (01:02:24):
You know, Maryland pretty tough team obviously, but you know,
butck Noell top twenty five recruiting class in the past
two years. I think they're pretty underrated by e W.
A preview comes out probably, I think tomorrow. At this
point I talked about but now could potentially be a
top two, maybe top three team in the e w
A behind leg High and battling with Army and Navy for.

Speaker 5 (01:02:45):
That second and third spot. So I like but Noll
a lot.

Speaker 6 (01:02:49):
They pull out a win against Maryland, I won't be
surprised if they keep it close.

Speaker 5 (01:02:52):
You know, I expected to be close.

Speaker 4 (01:02:56):
I talked to Clemson tomorrow, so I'll let him know.

Speaker 6 (01:02:59):
You said that, yeah, that second was my second school choice.
By the way, tell him that, yeah, I always had
a soft spot from Maryland.

Speaker 1 (01:03:09):
There you go, there was there was a there's another
guy that that went to your school that ended up
that Maryland that had his own fan club and in
his own catchphrase. I believe they said headlock shep talk.

Speaker 6 (01:03:22):
Jimmy just had his second baby, boy, uh, a few
days ago here, so he's a father too.

Speaker 2 (01:03:27):
Just like me.

Speaker 4 (01:03:28):
Nice.

Speaker 5 (01:03:28):
We're all growing up so fast, guys.

Speaker 1 (01:03:31):
Yeah, it happens. I just keeping I'm three years away,
literally to the day, three years away. So yeah, but no, gentlemen,
we we will have actual results to speak of next
week that I'm really really looking forward to the Austin.

(01:03:52):
You said your your e w A preview is coming,
to make sure to look out for that. I know
there's there's some interviews with branch interviews. I think you
said you're talking to Clemson, so be on lookout for
those things. I talked to Valenti just the other day
about rev share and how they're approaching it, and you know,
I think he was just like so much knowledge. It

(01:04:12):
came from him. You know, he put on his admin
hat as well as his coaching hat. He also talked
about making this the smart I had. Yeah, he talked about,
you know, making the transition back into being a coach
and like all the things that are a little bit
different for him. As well, So the conversation that's gonna
be coming tomorrow morning, so being a lookout for that.
So going into the weekend, plenty of content that is

(01:04:33):
going to be coming, so make sure you guys stay
on Internet. We'll obviously have rankings, we've got gonna have
a little bit of high school stuff. I believe Willie
will have a little bit of high school stuff for
us as well. But then next week we're gonna really
start to get into our weekly content. We're gonna have
a good bit of things that we've got planned, so
make sure you guys are on the lookout for our

(01:04:54):
recaps for the previews with this show, and then all
the other articles and all the other things that are
coming as well as more coach interviews, more wrestler interviews,
and we'll just be digging in and plugging along as
the season goes on. And we'll see you guys again
next week.
