Speaker 1 (00:00):
So what's happening people? Welcome back to the Internet Wrestling Podcast.
We are the squad of crazies that love to talk
about wrestling, and we missed last week, but we are
back as we go into the holiday to discuss the
first half.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Of the season before we start the new year.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
We'll get into Journeyman, which I will be at, as
well as some highlights like I said, from the first half,
and any wrestlers that stuck out to us. But at first,
before we even get into that, right before we came on,
we were talking about Rocke Welsh, so why not jump
right into it. We have heard obviously there were rumors
(00:42):
and he was going to be leaving Ohio State. Even
up to this morning. For me, I had gotten text
messages that he was gone and headed to still Water
and that was the rumor that had been out there.
But he just put out a tweet and then also
Coach Ryan put on his Instagram story a picture of
(01:04):
Rockel Welsh and it's got you know, buck eye on it,
just to picture of him and he's tagged. Obviously, the
rumor mill is always swirling, but this one really seemed
like it had a lot of legs that he was
going to be on his way out. What did you
guys make of the rumor? First of all, and what
(01:24):
do you make of him staying.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
Sounds like somebody found their wallet. It be my guess.
I mean, I don't have any money around Christmas time,
so somebody budgeted better than I did. That's That's what
I'm getting out of it. Wasn't super surprised, just kind
of with the stack of talent they have there to
see that he was looking somewhere else. But I don't
(01:49):
I'm not super surprised either way. Honestly, I didn't think
he was going to come back from what I had heard,
but he says he is.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
So I think.
Speaker 5 (02:01):
I think a lot happened with that program. I mean,
before the season started, it looked good. They had great depth,
they had great lineups, they had a lot of things
going for him. A lot of people were returning very positive,
and then all at once, a lot seemed to change.
(02:22):
And I think the first thing that changed was I
don't think he's one hundred and seventy four pounder anymore.
I think that they found out pretty quickly that that's
actually not going to be sustainable. I mean, he was
in the All Star Classic until he wasn't right and
he wrestled up at one eighty four, I think the
weekend before. And I think that has a lot to
do with it, because then all of a sudden you
(02:43):
got to have other difficult conversations with other guys in
that room to try and figure out what's going on.
You've kind of seen them shifting some people around in
the lineup right now, and I don't know that if
those two things are aligned or correlated at all.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
They've also had some injuries go on.
Speaker 5 (02:58):
I mean, they the team that they've put out there
this past week against Pittsburgh, and the lineup they put
out clearly is not what we projected necessarily at the
beginning of the season.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
So I think when there's.
Speaker 5 (03:09):
A lot of change and a lot of upheaval and
a lot of things that you kind of have planned
and then they don't go that way, it tends to
make people kind of question things, right, And I'm not
you know, I think that's human nature.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
I don't know. This is not a.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
Pointed negative thing towards the program or anybody else, but
you know, I know he had had plans for himself
to you know, be a four time national champ and
those sorts of things, and it's tough when all of
a sudden you come back after being an NCAA finalist
and potentially not have a spot in the lineup, right,
(03:46):
And that's got to be frustrating for a guy that
talented and that young. So I don't know what happened
behind the scenes or how it happened, but you know,
for the programming for him, I'm happy. I think that
it's good that he he's going to be sticking around,
and I think that, you know, whether however that came
to be, I think cohesion tends to be good, especially
(04:09):
for a younger guy.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
So I'm happy for him.
Speaker 5 (04:12):
I'm happy for the Bucks, and I hope that, you know,
this ends up well for all of them, because, I mean,
still they're trying to figure out what they're going to
do at one seventy four and one ninety seven heavyweight.
We got to figure out what's going on with Feldman
long term and his injury concerns there, So you know,
that's frustrating for the coaching staff and for a lot
of the team, and obviously that kind of trickles down,
(04:34):
you know, so hopefully, I know They've got good leaders
in that room, and I'm sure they can kind of
put it together and still have a good season. Maybe
not what they'd wanted, but still a very very good season.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (04:46):
And I think we've heard rumors that he was wanting
to not red shirt or wanted to red shirt, and
he hasn't wrestled, so I'm not sure if that was
you know, disagreement there between him and the staff about
red shirting versus not, but you know, it looked like
it was. If that was the case, it got bad
enough where he was on his way out, like you
guys said, you know, we were all kind of thinking
that was where he was going. Turns out he's staying.
(05:08):
So yeah, I don't know what happened today, whether it
was an il deal follow you know, follow up somehow
came through, but yeah, good to see him stay, and
you know, nice to see a how State you know,
get back in the trophy hunt here.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Yeah, and I think that's the i mean call what
it is in today's kind of atmosphere and climate of
college sports, the low hanging fruit is that the money
was upped, right, That's what everybody's going to look at,
and that's everybody's thought is, hey, they they found some
money somewhere, right, But it also could be just the conversation.
(05:45):
You know, you recruited this kid out of high school,
he gets shoved into the lineup because of injury, it
ends up in the NCAA Finals, comes back, and things
certainly changed, whether it is him getting bigger and being
up at one eighty four, or other guys being in
the lineup that don't have a red shirt like he does,
(06:06):
because he still does have that red shirt year after
not red shirting last year.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
You know, you it's a good problem.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
To have though, right where you do have a kind
of a log jam of talent in certain areas, and
we've certainly seen that with other teams.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
You know, there's a reason that bear.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
Claw is is at Utah Valley because of that logjam
that Penn State had, and obviously Penn State is still
dealing with a bit of a log jam with Pecundo
and Kasik. So you know, Ohio State is certainly not
the only team to have these sorts of issues and
these sorts of problems. But like I said, the low
hanging fruit is, oh, you know, they they opened the
(06:47):
checkbook or they found some money. I'm gonna go out
on a limb and say maybe it was just miscommunication
and conversations that were being had behind the scenes that
literally only the team and and the coaches are privy to.
But there were there was certainly smoke to to this rumor,
(07:11):
and there were plenty of people that were in the
know on it. But that is the that is the
key word, right. It is just a rumor at the
end of the day, and if nothing comes of it,
then it's just something that could have happened. And there's
plenty of kuda woulda should as in in sports in general,
(07:33):
and I think this is going to be one that
we definitely add to the list. But you know, as
I said, there there were plenty of text messages, plenty
of tweets. I'm sure there were rumors in different communities
and on different forums where a number of people were
saying it right, And that's why I feel like the
(08:01):
talk about Roco Welsh kind of had some legs because
if that many people are speaking of something, there's got
to be something to it. But again, hat tip to
Ohio State figuring it out because he's you know, he
put out a tweet that you know, Ohio State is
(08:22):
his home and he's not going anywhere. Coach Ryan posted
on his Instagram story a picture of Roco Welsh and
said Buckeye for life or something to that, to that nature. Right,
so they have figured it out. He's, you know, not
going anywhere at least for now, according to him and
Coach Ryan. So I don't think there's anything else for
(08:46):
us to really talk about, but the the rumors that swirl,
right that we hear about, things that are posted, text
messages that are sent. This was one where everybody was like, yeah,
that's happening. You know, I got this is one hundred
percent that this is happening. But it's always happening until
it's not. So buck guys keep their returning into a finalist.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
Best rumors are the album by Fleetwood Mac. So we
all know that Kevin.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
Will always give us at least some sort of reference.
I love it only twelve minutes.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
You missed the Kansas reference before you get on here.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
I'm sure he'll have more. He always does.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
There's always there's always something he's He's kind of like
the like the Magician where the the cloth just keeps
coming out of the sleeve. Those references. They they keep
it coming.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
They certainly was.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
Full of ship like most magicians.
Speaker 6 (09:43):
But yeah, all all of yeah, the whole.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Slide of hand is real.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
So I want to I want to kind of pivot
from you know, a big rumor story to the big
things that happen on the mat and and I want
us to kind of pick through the conferences that we cover,
who are the guys that have really stood out to
us so far this year. And Robbie, I'm gonna start
with you in the acc who are the guys that
(10:11):
you didn't expect to see make a huge impact or
guys that you expected a huge impact from that aren't
really shining the way you thought.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
I mean, there's a few that immediately jump off the page.
And we've talked about TJ. Stewart a lot about you know,
his own four start what we're not seeing from him.
He's got a hell of a test this week, if
you know, they pull a trigger with him against Dustin
Plot and this duel on Thursday. So maybe maybe that's
a chance for him to get back on his feet,
or it's going to be you know, a test to
(10:44):
see if maybe it is you know, a red shirt
issue that we need to look at. But as far
as surprises that the biggest one that stands out is
Vince Robinson. Yeah, he's looked amazing Las Vegas. Aside those
kind of an but he's been, you know, an offensive machine.
We didn't know what it was going to look like
(11:05):
between him and Camacho coming into the season. He very
much just started himself as the starter and he's looked fantastic.
So that's the biggest one that stands out. I mean,
Caleb Henson's been fantastic. I'm the president of the Isaac
Tremble fan Club, so he's been great. Duke Well, I
mean Stanford, I think is another one to look at.
(11:27):
Jade Navis kind of had a resurgence at c KLV.
He looked fantastic. Burger Chlocke and look has looked great
all year. So Stanford's got a lot of good things
going on. Tyler Knox has been great. So they're going
to be a bigger force within the conference than I
think was initially.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
Thought.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
I think they're going to be. They're going to be
challenging for a duel title. They're they're right up there
and had to head matchups against Virginia Tech and North
Carolina State, so those duels are going to be a
lot tighter than I think we expected at the beginning
of the year.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
Agree on the Lorenze Norman Robinson thing.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Honestly, he has looked amazing so far this year, and
as you said, I don't think that he was really
on anyone's radar. I'm sure everybody thought that he was
going to be potentially a backup right to a guy
that's been the perennial one twenty five.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
So definitely agree with that. Kevin Moore, you're gonna say.
Speaker 5 (12:22):
Just Lorenzo Norman, continuing with Robbie was saying about Stanford, like,
you don't see anybody really shut down Hammity in the way.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
I mean, he's still lost to him, right, but.
Speaker 5 (12:32):
Like Hammity was was blowing through the competition at CKLV,
and I mean we saw Norman get the win over
Griffith last year and that was impressive and everything. But
he looked every bit of the dynamic wrestler you thought
he could be so far this season as well.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
For the Cardinals there.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
Agreed.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Agreed, it's good to have a little bit more competition
in the ACC for sure.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
I mean NC State.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Has been sitting at the top for a while. Virginia
Tech obviously a threat, but Stanford coming in and you're
already seeing the fruits of the labor of that coaching
staff being there for longer than thirty seconds. Right last
year they came in and it was finding out what
everybody's names were and where they were going to fit
(13:22):
in the lineup right, you it was it was not,
you know, not as as good as you probably wanted
it in Stanford. So having a full year and and
you start to already see the development that Airs is
put in. And I love the fact that there's you know,
more parody coming to the ACC because, like I said,
it is it really has been NC State kind of
(13:46):
just ruling that conference for a while. How do you see, Robbie,
how do you see Stanford matching up with NC State whenever?
Speaker 2 (13:54):
I don't know when. When is that? Do they do
they wrestle each other or is that's something that waits
at the end of the year.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
Everyone will face each other. Just because there's only seven teams,
Stanford's schedule is kind of wonky. I want to say,
let me double check this, but they're making one trip
out to the East Coast, and I think they're doing
a Friday Sunday because of that. So I think they're
doing in C State. Yeah, yeah, NC State on the
(14:25):
fourteenth and Duke on the sixteenth, So that weekend they'll
do a Friday night duel against sanseea State and a
Sunday duel against Duke. Then North Carolina goes out there.
Speaker 6 (14:32):
So the plan is to.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
Make one big East Coast trip East coast trip every year,
so they have the Virginia schools. Next year, they'll come
out for Virginia Virginia Tech, and then I guess North
Carolina as well, North Carolina Pitt. It's kind of weird
to have an East Coast team in or a West
Coast team in an East Coast conference, so it kind
of adds some complexity to it. Matchup wise, it's gonna
(14:57):
be tight. Honestly, I think a lot of it will
depend on, you know, what they do at one twenty five.
If Nico Provo's back, that's gonna be a big statement,
but none of their powers really hit each other. The
(15:18):
twenty five you have Vince Robinson versus yet to be
determined Tyler Knox and Troy Homan, so you're you're leaning
towards Stanford there, well, Rainey at forty one Consiglio, you're
laying in NC State. So it's really back and forth.
The only big big matchups you'll have power versus powers
probably on one seventy four, uh with Lorenzo Norman and
(15:41):
Matt Singleton. So and that's you know, Matti's been back
and forth but has a pretty good so far this year,
so it's gonna be tight. I think they match up
better with NC State than they do with Virginia Tech.
I think I would I would lean more towards Virginia
Tech beating them just with the way they stack up
against each other than the n NC State. I think
(16:02):
that one will come down to bonus points.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
Looking forward to that one.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Austin over to you and e i w A and
the IVY League. How how are things looking the first
year for for IVY to have their own conference, and
you know what, what is what's been different? I guess
has there been any sort of competition change without the
Ivy's being in the e i w A.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
Has Brown wrestled yet?
Speaker 6 (16:31):
Brown? I think they had one scheduled event and their
second one is on Friday at the sheriff aid at
Lee High. Yeah, a lot of even them. Harvard they
had like zero dual meets. I think Harvard competed like
three different times. But to answer your question, Homes, No,
not really, because there's a lot of opens, a lot
of different invites. You know, they they don't really dueled
each other until second semester anyway, so we won't see
(16:54):
much of that until, you know, second semester. A lot
of them still did Journeyman class together, a lot of
them still did things like Keystone Classic. Princeton Open is
right in the backyards of all these teams, So we
did see some overlap, but I think we'll reillity take
more effect coming to second semester here.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Yeah, any any guys standing out.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
That maybe we expected in either one of those conferences,
I mean.
Speaker 6 (17:22):
The ones we probably should talk about are actually red shirting,
you know, from Lehigh, Max bring Nola and Luke Stanich,
you know, both putting together Hell of the Years have
beaten one or two All Americans at piece this year,
and you know they're still gonna stay in red shirt.
I think they're kind of waiting for those classes to
maybe empty out a little bit. Those guys would come
(17:43):
back next year, and then they'll have three headed monster
between Crookham Maddy Lopes might be in there at twenty
five by then Standage at forty one and bring Nola
at sixty five. And they also have a bunch of
youth on that team too, So letting those guys like
you know, Razinski at fifty seven get another year under
his belt, they'll be a lot, a lot tougher next year.
(18:04):
Just unfortunate Beard will be gone after this year, you know,
but you know they'll have some guys filling in, you know,
there eventually.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
When do when do we see Lehigh's new heavyweight?
Speaker 6 (18:16):
I guess breaking news We could potentially see him on
Friday here at the Sheridan. Talk to some sources today
and it's it's quite a quite a task to get
someone eligible right away at the beginning of the semester here.
But you know, but the way things have happened in
the off season, you kind of just show up on
(18:36):
campus and can wrestle. So I'm not sure what the
different rules are here, but yeah, there's.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
It might even be different with Lehigh too, right, Like
the way that they do things is always a lot different.
You don't you don't really red shirt, you kind of
defer eligibility and continue to compete.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
So yeah, a little bit differently high.
Speaker 6 (18:53):
Yeah, you're right. Elgibilia rules are a little a little
more strict on this side of the country here, not
so much in the Midwest. And I think because Traffan
does have.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Some of us don't have strict rules.
Speaker 6 (19:05):
That's true, that's true. Yeah. I think he did graduate,
didn't he, Robbie, Yeah, he graduated. Yeah, the verification that
he transferred or that he graduated, and then you know
they grad program. Thank you. Yeah, So a few more hurdles.
Are hoping that's done by Thursday so we can wrestle Friday.
If not, he'll be at their next event, probably sometime
(19:28):
with the holiday.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
The guy that's really stood out for me is hy Whalen,
And I'm sure we expected it because of how he
looked last year and just how you know, how Debuke
has talked about you know, wait until you see the
guys that that are sitting right now right like he
was certainly one of the guys.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
I mean, he's undefeated right now, you know, coming.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
Off a tech fall, but his matches they have not
been close I'm looking at his results right now. I
think there was one close match and that's with Compusto
from lock Haven, and the finals of the Princeton Open
was two to one. Everyone else they've scored no one
has scored more than three points on him. So it's
(20:14):
been it's been a pretty dominant year for Whalen. And
just like the guy the coaching staff that left Princeton,
the guys that are there, it's really good to see
them have guys that can be consistent because last year
it was not pretty for Princeton whatsoever.
Speaker 6 (20:30):
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that they'll be at Midlands again
this year. Were whale and won last year unattached there,
so looking too a defensive title and b you know,
get some really good competition and really make a name
for himself. I think that's like you mentioned, Yeah, he's
killing guys, but he's not really wrestling high, high level
competition yet, which he'll see at Midlands. Which I'm excited
for a lot of those schools to see some competition
(20:52):
here because they've been laying low a little bit this semester.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
For sure.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
In the Big Ten where Kevin and I d well,
things have been pretty cool Kevin. I'm gonna let you
start out. You know, what, what are the highlights for
you from the first half of the year.
Speaker 4 (21:11):
Well, ex see me, my throat.
Speaker 5 (21:14):
I think the we might have the same main guy
as far as like been super impressed by but like
Nick Bezakis has looked awesome, Like he really is everything
that I had concerns with regarding his weight cut and
the issues that, you know, whether it was the weight
cut or whatever it was last season, just getting used
to whatever.
Speaker 4 (21:34):
He looks great this year. He looks really really good.
Speaker 5 (21:38):
So I'm very much impressed with him and where what
he's been able to do this season, and and you know,
expect him to continue to make improvements. He's he's shown
in every other facet of his wrestling and you know
outside of college that he's world class. And yeah, I
think he's just going to settle into this year and
and continue to improve and get better. So I've been
(22:00):
really impressed with him first and foremost. The the other
thing I'm kind of looking at is, uh, you know,
I'm gonna go back to Maryland. I like Maryland and
I've been following them for the last several years, and
you know those guys that have kind of changed weights.
Ethan Miller at but one fifty seven has looked great.
He's got to win over Joey Blaize, who had a
(22:20):
really good Cliff Key in Las Vegas, so that's I mean,
that's really kind of helping him stand out. Jackson Smith
has looked good dropping down at one four. Cal Miller
has shown some good things at one, so I'm impressed
with them and what.
Speaker 4 (22:34):
They were able to put together.
Speaker 5 (22:35):
And Dario Olemas at one forty one as well as
has shown some that he can be a real deal
guy as well, so you know what they were able
to put together. Oh and then Seth Nevil's as well.
I shouldn't forget him. He's quietly out there doing his
thing and kind of settling into you know. I mean
last year was really his full, first full season in
a lineup and did pretty well with I remember if
(22:57):
he was in the Blood Round at the NCAA's of
the Round before that, but he had a good NCAA
tournament and he is currently undefeated seven and zero, drank
fourteenth by US, so putting.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
Together a good year. I'm impressed with what they're doing
in general.
Speaker 2 (23:13):
Yeah, I agree, with Neviles.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
He's one of those guys that I had a chance
to get to know when he was in high school
because I had so many of those trips out to
Doc B and you know, sitting down and just like
talking with him and his brothers and you know, the
family like such like awesome people. So seeing him in
a lineup fully and doing so well, especially for a
(23:38):
school like Maryland who hasn't really had a shining star
since you know, one of one of Austin's high school
teammates was there, look so little headlocked, shep talk right,
So it's been a while since Maryland has had a
guy that they can look to. And obviously I know
they had some guys last year, but there's more consistency
this year where it's not just one guy that you're
(23:58):
pointing at, right. So the fan part of me loves
to see that Neville's is doing really well. Now the
guys that have stuck out for me, and I know
it's probably not the flashiest, but I'm going to have
to start with Matt Ramos, and it's because of the
(24:20):
inconsistency that we saw from him last year and how
he is consistently killing people this year, and he's got
two regular decision wins. That is it like a tech
fall in the finals, right, Like it's just just crushing people.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
And like not even letting up on anyone.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
So you know, that's the that's the thing for me
where I'm like this, this dude is legit, and I
think this could be his year, you know, just like
just like Vincent Robinson, who it sucks we didn't see
that match at CKLV, which I think it would have
been awesome, but those two, you know, where one twenty
(25:03):
five was kind of a shit show last year. This
year we've got consistency, and Matt Rainmos is the consistency
that I think we thought we were going to see
last year from him coming off of the biggest win
of the century. So he's he's the first guy that
has really stuck out for me when I'm looking at
(25:25):
big ten guys, and like I said, it's because of
the fact that he has been super duper consistent.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
And then the.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
Other guy that that you know, again not super flashy,
but it's because he's coming off an injury is Shane
van Ness, and van Ness has been another one of
the guys that you know, obviously I'm in the top
two guys in their weight classes right now with with
who I'm impressed by, but it's because of how things
were the previous year, van Ness coming off the injury,
(25:59):
and and Ramos not very consistent last year. I mean, hell,
he lost to you know, high school kid who will
be at Penn State in a year so or a
year or two. So it's for me seeing van Ness
make the statement that he made against Tye Waters in
the All Star Classic. The match may not have may
(26:20):
not have counted, but those points were on the board
and he put up a lot of them. And just
seeing how he's being, He's been pretty dominant this year.
That's that's what's been, you know, very impressive for me.
And and I know, like none of us cover the
Big twelve, but overall I'm very impressed with Oklahoma State
(26:42):
and and what they're they're doing. We obviously didn't know
what we were going to get from a coaching staff
of mostly first year coaches, right, but they are. I mean,
they put how many guys, what five guys in the
ALV finals came away with with two champs. Whyat Hendrickson
(27:05):
looks like an absolute monster, just mowing people down, so
they're you know, they're obviously looking awesome, and I think
a lot of people have them in trophy contention already
this year. And outside of that, Utah Valley loves seeing
what they're doing as well. Bara Clall looks amazing outside
(27:27):
of you know, taking taking a loss. But he's been
the guy that I think we expected him to be
thrown Big twelve out there. Have you guys seen anyone
in in in the Big twelve or any other conference
that the four of us don't cover that have been
really impressive to you?
Speaker 5 (27:47):
Jordan thinks just good or has looked good. But I
do want to one one more thing on the Oklahoma
state thing. And I was thinking about this earlier, like
like the situation, and I know John when he retired
said that this, you know, he wanted to retire when
it was in a good position for somebody to hand
it off to, right, better than when he took it over,
I think, is how he phrased it.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
Right.
Speaker 5 (28:08):
So, but it's it's almost a better situation than inheriting
like Iowa when Gable retired, right, Like, this is a
situation where it's a young team, it's it's obviously a
premiere program. There's there's a lot of upside to those
those athletes that are there, and they're going to be
around for a little while longer, you know, at least
(28:30):
a lot of them. So there's again you can build
that culture and consistency and have that kind of grow
within those athletes. And then obviously you know they've done
a good job with recruiting and bringing people in, but
clearly the development is happening and clearly the culture is
being established there. Like whereas if you take over Iowa
after I was it fifteen out of twenty one national
(28:52):
championships and twenty one Big Ten Championships or something, it's
like you can only go down, right, Like, that's not
just going to continue. So and this is not to
take anything away from David Taylor and company, right like
they're doing a really good job.
Speaker 4 (29:07):
I was just like, man, that is kind of a.
Speaker 5 (29:08):
Better position to be in to take over something like
this where it is positioned like it's it's on the
trajectory up.
Speaker 4 (29:15):
Just just keep it going, right, So yeah, I'm not
gonna make the joke. Never mind how I'll move.
Speaker 7 (29:21):
They also didn't have looming like sanctions could didn't when
when John took over for Josie, wasn't there some like, uh,
some issues within the program with with Joe I remembering
that correctly.
Speaker 5 (29:39):
If I remember correctly, John like didn't want the coach
to get fired, right like they took second at NCAA's
or something, and then they fired the guy.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
And John, Yeah, there was there was some stuff that
he had been like previously suspended for. I don't remember
what it was. There was something like that, but it
was the program was in a good spot, but the
coaching staff was not when John took over.
Speaker 5 (29:58):
So the joke I was gonna make, actually I'm gonna
make it because it's not on the guys, but here
it is. So but it's the it's like the whole
meme where Ryan Day takes the controller from who was
the coach before him, that Urban Meyer Urban Meyer, and
then it just shows the bus driving off the class
like independent. It's not a knock in Ohio state. That'd
(30:20):
be funny for anybody. So they could have, you know,
if if the if that game had gone different with Michigan,
they could have made the same meme with Sharon Moore, right,
But anyway, that was funny.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
Anything to throw at diggde Ohio State. I love it.
That's full circle. We'll circle, yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
I mean this this first half of the season has been.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
It's been great, honestly.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
I mean the All Star Classic was was great, even
though I would have wished it was a couple of
weeks earlier.
Speaker 2 (30:51):
So we truly kicked off the season with it.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
But there's been you know, a number of guys that
have returned to lineups, lineups that look ultra strong, guys
that you know, have transferred and are already seeing the development.
Speaking of Oklahoma State with the guys that they had
that have transferred in and you're seeing the development, you know,
I said Hendrickson, just like an animal. But obviously the
(31:19):
biggest overarching story is Gable coming back, right and I
know we don't we talked about him what once or
I think once before, but Minnesota's lineup with Gable is
very strong. I think Oklahoma State and Minnesota this year
(31:43):
are two teams that we didn't really have pegged to
be in contention, maybe you know, be top ten, but
we didn't know what we were going to get, specifically
from Oklahoma State because they are brand new.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
You know, the what is it?
Speaker 1 (32:00):
I or six of those guys in their entire lineup
are all brand new, so we didn't know what we're
gonna get there. And then obviously his coaching staff being different,
so the cohesion is there. And then, like I said,
Minnesota comes in already with a ton of guys that
are ranked and looking very good, and Eggham has very
(32:21):
high hopes for them, and then they add Gable to
that mix and he's doing nothing but putting up bonus
points whenever he's he is in the lineup, and it's
just like, man, are we going to be looking at
Minnesota and Oklahoma State of old where they are in
high trophy contention once again? Obviously you know it's going
(32:42):
to take a bazooka in a couple of hand grenades
to defeat Penn State. But the you know, two three
four spots I had Nebraska pegged to be in one
of those spots.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
I don't anymore.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
With Oklahoma State and how they're looking, and then obviously
how Minnesota looks, and then being bolstered by mcinelly and
a new base in their lineup who looks really good,
as well as Gable being back. You know, those bonus
points that they're getting as well as the other guys
that came back, like Wells, they're They're definitely going to
(33:19):
put them in contention.
Speaker 5 (33:21):
Dude, I didn't realize until I was looking at the
rankings today. Shout out to Earl Vance, Bombbauers eleven and zero, Like,
I didn't realize he wrestled eleven different people this year.
Like I knew, I knew he was coming back, and
I knew he was an All American last year and
had a great story and everything, but like, damn that
dude's dude's putting it together.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
So yeah, it's I think the funny thing about that,
right is because you we haven't seen the top dog
a lot. We haven't seen Penn State wrestle a ton,
and so you kind of forget that there are so
many teams that have wrestled a ton thus far. You know,
I mean, Hendrick's in ten and O Bombauer you just
(34:01):
mentioned eleven and ZH. Then you look at Kirkfleet, who's
at what four or five? And oh right now, right,
you see Sarachi, same thing, right, So Penn State probably
started there, you know, they started their season a little
bit later, and I think that's what kind of gets lost, right,
because everybody wants to see how Penn State looks this year.
We want to see how Sarachi looks at one hundred
(34:22):
and eighty four pounds. We want to see Lili dah
and how he looks as a true freshman, and how
Braden Davis looks at thirty three and as I mentioned,
van Ness coming back after the injury. So everybody pays
such close attention to that that you forget that there
are so many teams that have put it on the
line weeks before. Some of the top schools. Excuse me,
some of the top schools have done it. So that's
(34:45):
you know, that's why it's funny, like, you know, you
do have a lot of big records right now, even
though a lot of the teams have it matched up.
Speaker 2 (34:53):
The other team.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
I want to talk about before we jump to the
collegiate duels. Is Iowa coming into the season. I think
you know, Kevin and I last year, when we talked
about the preview stuff that we were going to be doing,
We're like, man, we don't know what IWA have.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
We don't really know what that lineup is gonna look like.
This year.
Speaker 1 (35:13):
It's kind of the same question but with way more
firepower where you're like last year they were really trying
to figure out who was gonna be at seventy four
or eighty four, who was the best guy to put there?
This year, it's kind of the same thing, but it's
like which gun do you want?
Speaker 2 (35:31):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (35:32):
Because each one of these guys, including Ferrari, has looked
phenomenal this year. What do you guys make of how
Iowa went from who the hell are we going to see?
Speaker 4 (35:41):
To?
Speaker 2 (35:41):
Holy shit, who the hell are we going to see?
Speaker 4 (35:45):
Due They're so loaded, They're so loaded.
Speaker 5 (35:48):
I mean, we're gonna go over what we're looking forward
to in the second half of the season. And I
just have three Iowa duels written down. I'm I'm pumped
for them, and then the other one I have written down.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
I won't get to it yet, We'll cover that later.
But no, I mean they're completely loaded. They're absolutely loaded.
Speaker 5 (36:04):
And and you know, even before you get to what
they're going to figure out it one's seventy four and
four with with Brands or Ferrari or Gabe Arnold or
or Patrick Kennedy. You know you've got Ayala, who's looked
awesome that won thirty three so far this year. You know,
they're just they're figuring it out, man, And obviously they
had some guys transfer out. Do we have any updates
(36:26):
actually on Teamer and how he's doing. I mean, last
time I saw he.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
Was I haven't heard anything. I heard it was a
it was a hamstring injury, and I was getting some
some different texts from different people when when it happened,
and it was he's going to be getting an MRI
literally on Monday if it's torn, to have surgery and
everything else. But I haven't gotten anything since then. It's
(36:53):
definitely something to look at, you know. I probably trut
a text here here there tomorrow to see if anybody
has any any updates on what he's how his progress is.
But no, I haven't really seen many things from him.
I don't know what the the prognosis is on Teamer.
Speaker 5 (37:13):
Well, you're certainly hoping for nothing but the best as
far as a recovery and return. He's been awesome for
college wrestling and fun to watch his whole career, and
obviously you know we're talking Iowa. It'd be a huge
bolster to have him back and healthy. But independent of
that Stephen Buchanan has been a world beater so far
this year, He's looked awesome. Jacob Cardinis has looked awesome.
So I can't wait till those two guys battle it
(37:35):
out at some point.
Speaker 4 (37:36):
In fact, I don't think they compete this year.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
Army has a guy named Wolfgang Fraebel. What an awesome name.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
That's what we need to do, is we probably should
maybe for the new year, we'll put out our all
name team.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
We will for the new year look at the preseason
NCAA champion picks that we made and see if we're
sticking or kicking with some of the guys that we
thought we're gonna be champs. I like that, but I
do want to want to move to what we're looking
forward to in the second half of the year, and
(38:13):
I'm gonna I'm gonna start off with the event that
I will be at this weekend. I'll be in Nashville
calling all the action. I'm really looking forward to it.
You have that that first day, I mean, the sessions
are two, four and six both days, two matts going
Ohio State, North Carolina, Ohio State lock Haven, and Ohio
(38:35):
State Wrestling, Iowa State All happening on Matt one, and
then Iowa State, lock Haven, Iowa State, North Carolina and
then lock Haven, North Carolina. Those those are all on
day one, and then you get a new crop of
teams at Penn State, Binghamton, Little Rock, and Missouri all
(38:56):
coming in on day two, and that that final match
on day two at six Penn State and Missouri. Obviously,
that's the one that everybody wants to see with heavy
emphasis on Levi Haynes versus Keegun o'tool. That's gonna be
a lot of fun, I even think, I mean, overall,
(39:17):
that duel is going to be great, but that match
in and of itself, I'm going to petition for that
to be the last match. So Carcarachi, I'm sorry, but
you'll probably be the first one to wrestle during that
duel if I can get Frank Pop to change his
mind on starting at one twenty five. But that's honestly
(39:38):
what I'm really honestly looking forward to and.
Speaker 2 (39:41):
Just seeing each one of these teams.
Speaker 1 (39:43):
Obviously, I'm a very big fan of Little Rock and
everything that they're doing. Nacer Bailey just took a pretty
bad loss recently, but the development that they have had
over a very short amount of time. Already, having a
couple of all Americans in the short amount of time
that they've even existed is pretty amazing. So looking forward
(40:07):
to seeing them. Obviously want to see Missouri. I mean
looking forward to seeing every single one of those teams
that are going to be there. But the match with
Penn State and Missouri happening on the final day, I'm
hoping and praying we don't get a repeat of what
happened with Cornell last year where guys got hurt in
those first two matches. I'll leave it at that, but
(40:31):
I am I am really hoping that guys show up.
If you if you want to sit out any of
the duels, sit out the first two, sit out the
first one, sit up. Just don't sit out that duel.
And I'm speaking right to haynes En O'Toole. We need
that match. Everybody wants to see that match again. Because
we already saw it in freestyle, Let's see it in
(40:52):
folk style.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
So that's what I'm looking forward to.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
Robbie, I'll start with you, what are you looking forward
to in the acc that's happening in the second half.
Speaker 3 (41:03):
I mean, just this weekend's gonna be huge. Virginia Texts
going down in still Water for a dual Localhoma State
on Thursday, and we've got North Carolina some really interesting
head to head matchups at the collegiate duels for them
to pay attention to and kind of go through those
(41:23):
a little bit, but some some big matches that they
could kind of vault them into a better position going
into the ACC season and then finish it up on Sunday.
NC State and Cornell not knowing I guess what strength
full strength. I don't know anything about Cornell. I don't
think they know anything about themselves right now. What their
(41:43):
lineup's gonna look like.
Speaker 2 (41:45):
I don't know if he knows either.
Speaker 3 (41:47):
It could be an awesome duel, right because that I mean,
on paper, that is an absolutely fantastic duel. But what
lineup are we going to see? But I think that
will be a good one.
Speaker 6 (41:58):
You know.
Speaker 3 (41:59):
NC State got a little thing up in Vegas, so
it'll be nice to see, you know, if they if
they bounce back and where they're at. But there's some
some great matches there and then just ACC season starts
pretty quickly and NC State's going to wrestle Oklahoma State
as well. But Friday night duels for ACC is always
good times. It's always on, always viewable for everybody, and
(42:22):
and there's going to be some really great head to
head matchups this year. Like I said earlier, I think
Stanford is going to be competitive with Virginia Tech and
NC State. I think NC State Virginia Tech is always
going to be, you know, kind of down to the wire,
and that's going to determine the dual championship and it's
some fun stuff to watch. Keep your eye on Kivon
(42:45):
Roller from Virginia. He's going to be one to keep
an eye on. At twenty five. He's been fantastic so
far and he's only getting better.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
Austin, when you got in the e w A.
Speaker 6 (43:02):
I am ready to see.
Speaker 2 (43:04):
Some dual meets between these teams finally. Yeah, I just
want to see these guys wrestled, damn it.
Speaker 4 (43:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (43:11):
I mean obviously that's I love seeing them compete against
other competitions, but I like to see some head to
head duels with see where some of these teams are at,
you know, with the IVY teams leaving, I'm interested to
see where some of these teams shake out. You know,
obviously Lee High is probably top dog right now, you know,
but I think it's a good race for second place
between you know, you have Army in there, probably Navy Bucknell,
(43:32):
and you know, even Binghamton has four guys ranked in
the country right now. So I think the conference is
in a pretty good spot and I just want to see,
you know, who's going to chase after Lee High and
you know, make that conference competitive. But to answer Robbi's question, technically,
I do believe Ramirez and Foca are available to wrestle
(43:52):
this weekend. Because this is second semester. I don't know
if they'll be out there, but that would be nice
to see. It would be some good match upstair with
those two guys in it. They've been wrestling, you know,
it opens unattached the past few weekends kind of get ready.
So all tigns are pointing to those guys being ready.
But you know, we'll have to see there. And you know,
just second semester stuff. Lee High Cornell always a good
(44:13):
duel meet. Lee High seems to always knock off Cornell,
you know, during the season, and then Cornell usually gets
the back of the w ways. But we won't see
that this year, and obviously Army Navy is always a
great match. I got to get myself to one of
those and see it in person. It's always crazy on TV,
awesome to watch and I always exciting to see, but
you know, I got to get myself there in person
(44:34):
and see it.
Speaker 1 (44:38):
keV, what are you looking at in the Big ten?
I know you said you got some Iowa duels starre.
Speaker 5 (44:44):
Yeah, I so, first and foremost, it's coming up real soon.
Speaker 4 (44:49):
In fact, let me.
Speaker 5 (44:50):
Just look at the exact day Soldier Salute December twenty ninth,
yep in thirtieth. But in particular, a lot of those
SDSU guys where at Iowa last year are now there.
So I'd love to see them go back to Iowa
and have a chance to kind of, you know, say
what up.
Speaker 4 (45:11):
You know. STSU has been up and down a little
bit this season.
Speaker 5 (45:14):
They kind of got stumped by Minnesota this, you know,
and again we just talked about how good Minnesota has been,
so more power to them. But if I had really
paid more attention, I might have more Minnesota duels written
down on my sheet here as far as what I'm
looking forward to, But no, Iowa. Illinois is gonna be awesome.
Illinois is undefeated six and zero right now and as
(45:34):
some really good wins and they've looked awesome. They really
don't have too many spots in their lineups where it's
kind of where you don't know what you're gonna get.
You know, that happens on January seventeenth. Obviously, Penn State
Iowa is going to be awesome, you know, and you've
got to figure out what they're gonna do and how
they're going to move some people around. You know, what's
keyter going to look like by that point? I think
(45:55):
I'm going to that one, Kevin, Are you really I
think so nice?
Speaker 2 (46:02):
Here?
Speaker 4 (46:03):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (46:03):
Yeah, well imagined it's going to be tough to do,
which is what you'd love to see in wrestling.
Speaker 4 (46:09):
Right.
Speaker 6 (46:10):
You got a guy on the inside that could help
me out there, you go. I'll send you guys pictures.
Speaker 4 (46:15):
Nice.
Speaker 5 (46:15):
Nice. And then obviously, you know, Oklahoma State Iowa. We
once again just talked about how great Oklahoma States looked
so far this year, you know, and obviously going into
the duel last year, they had a lot of confidence
and felt good and then Iowa kind of stomped them
a bit, woke them up a little bit. So those
(46:35):
are those are some of the main ones I'm looking
at right now. Obviously Michigan Ohio State's a big one
that I'm excited for every year.
Speaker 4 (46:43):
And then yeah, now I'm just excited.
Speaker 5 (46:45):
I've got Cardenas written down because he wrestled so well
and it looked so good all year, and evidently unless
they meet somewhere that I'm not seeing on the schedule,
he's not going to see if Buchanan until Big tens.
So both those guys potentially could come in undefeated.
Speaker 3 (47:00):
And they both look massive. They're both just absolutely huge.
Yeah at ninety.
Speaker 5 (47:05):
Seven, you know how great heavyweight's been the last couple
of years, and now like we just have this awesome
set of like massive one ninety seven pounders too, Like
that's great. And then you've got this dude, Josh Barr,
who weighs like one hundred and eighty pounds, who's just
like whatever, I'll just wrestle one ninety seven because that's
my spot in the lineup and I'll just start beating people.
(47:25):
So that's another dude we didn't talk about who's looked
awesome this year that I didn't expect to look this awesome,
and that was like.
Speaker 6 (47:32):
True accident NCAA's a few years ago when he was
rested ninety seven, he said he weighed in at one
eight five at NCAA's. You're just putting dudes on their back,
pinning people all there. It's like, man, that's it's insane.
Speaker 2 (47:42):
Yeah, yeah, Ken.
Speaker 1 (47:45):
Have you mentioned Illinois And obviously I've been very high
on them from the start of the year, particularly Lucas Bird,
and that's why I want to highlight with their schedule,
with their Big ten schedules starting Lucas has a hell
of a stretch, like he will have Buzakis.
Speaker 2 (48:06):
We thought at the.
Speaker 1 (48:07):
Beginning of the year he'd have Canon, but Cannon is
now up at forty one.
Speaker 2 (48:10):
After that he has Ayala.
Speaker 1 (48:14):
And then the next big test after that will be
against Rutgers while he has Sholver and then.
Speaker 2 (48:20):
They'll wrestle Purdue.
Speaker 1 (48:21):
I don't think there's really anyone there that would really
threaten But then then he'll have Brandon Davis with Penn State,
Like that's the that's the Big ten slate for for
Illinois and just for Lucas Bird, So a hell of
a hell of a new year for Lucas Bird where
he is going to surely be battle tested, and then
(48:44):
after they wrestle Penn State, it's time for big tens, right,
so he will be He will basically hit all the
big dogs except for Ragason in that two month stretch.
You know, there aren't too many teams that, or at
least not too many guys that hit that many top
twenty guys in a row like that throughout the season,
(49:07):
and he is going to have a hell of a stretch.
So I'm glad that you pointed out Illinois because I
was like, oh, yeah, I think I think you know,
at the beginning of the year when I was looking
at schedules, Illinois was one of the schedules where I
was like, man, Lucas Bird has a stretch and a
half where it is. It is certainly not easy at all.
(49:29):
I know I talked about some of the Big twelve teams,
but I gotta go to Oklahoma State schedule, Robbie. The
match with NC State in January is always good between
Oklahoma State and NC State, you know, and that one
is at NC State again this year, so that one
should be a ton of fun. Northern Iowa is always
(49:51):
always a good duel. The Big twelve is gonna be
a lot of fun. And that's the thing is Oklahoma
State has their eyewa a stretch.
Speaker 2 (50:01):
I guess where.
Speaker 1 (50:02):
They wrestled Northern Iowa on January twenty fourth, and then
they had to Iowa State on the twenty sixth, so
you know, a good, good slate for them on that weekend.
But the certainly the match that I think everybody is
going to want to watch.
Speaker 2 (50:19):
Let me backtrack.
Speaker 1 (50:20):
Also, the Iowa State match Iowa State Oklahoma State is
on ESPN, so that will be available for literally everyone
to see, which I think will be awesome. I would
love it if the Big ten was like, let's throw
Iowa Oklahoma State on ESPN as well.
Speaker 2 (50:39):
But we don't get everything we wish for.
Speaker 1 (50:42):
However, on February twenty third, that's gonna be a serious
duel because Oklahoma State goes to Carver, and as rowdy
as Oklahoma State fans get, Carver is a bit of
a different beast. It's obviously bigger, tons of more kind
of irate fans in garb of ice cream.
Speaker 2 (51:02):
It's a it's a hostile.
Speaker 1 (51:03):
Environment, and they do it all with desserts apparently, so
I am really looking.
Speaker 2 (51:08):
Forward to that.
Speaker 1 (51:09):
I love how both Illinois and Oklahoma State have huge
duels and they go into their conference tournament like a
few weeks later because after they after Oklahoma State wrestles Iowa,
it's time for Big twelve championships.
Speaker 2 (51:25):
So yeah, I think.
Speaker 1 (51:26):
It's it's going to be an amazing second half of
the year. We start to get our conference dual meets going.
What matches, you know, we just mentioned a bunch of
dual meats. Are there any individual matches you know, outside
of the number of ones that mentioned that Lucas Bird
will have that you guys are really looking forward to
(51:49):
to kind of wrap things up.
Speaker 3 (51:55):
I mean, I think starting on Thursday, this this Virginia
Tech ocal Mistate tool is going to be kind of
fire from start to finish. Bentresca, Spratley, McGonagall, Witcraft, Latona, Jamison, Henson,
Carter Young, Hippolyto and Fish the only ones that aren't
like top ten matchups for mac Church and Camamine, Lennox,
(52:17):
Wolac and Dean Committee, t J Stewart, dust dustin Plot.
You see, if TJ gets back on the horse, we're
gonna see Sonny Sasso at ninety seven versus Luke Serber,
and will likely see Katka against White Hendrickson an official
hair battle. Hendrickson's mustache is way better than than Hunter's beard.
I'll just go like he does a large Farba, very
(52:41):
large farm, extra large Farva.
Speaker 5 (52:43):
That's what's so wild to me, though, is that like
a guy that's so clearly built.
Speaker 4 (52:49):
Nothing like Farava can look so close to Rod Farva.
I think Rod was his first.
Speaker 5 (52:56):
Name, but it's like, yeah, neck down there, there's no similarities,
neck up, identical.
Speaker 6 (53:07):
Works.
Speaker 3 (53:08):
What do you think his thoughts on Shenanigans are.
Speaker 4 (53:10):
I was just gonna.
Speaker 2 (53:13):
I think he's definitely pro Shenanigans.
Speaker 6 (53:15):
I would say.
Speaker 2 (53:19):
You can't have a stash like Dad and not be
pro Shenanigans. State.
Speaker 3 (53:26):
If Hendrickson doesn't doesn't capitalize an il money on some
farther merchandise, I'll be disappointed. Fretwell, Frattwell, I need a
Hendrickson as Farva T shirt staff.
Speaker 4 (53:38):
I will buy a car Ram Rod shirt today.
Speaker 1 (53:42):
Absolutely, I'll see for I mean, I talked for all
every day, but I will see him on on Friday,
so I'll see what.
Speaker 2 (53:49):
Uh, frett Well, I will plug this.
Speaker 1 (53:52):
Brettwell does have some really dope gear coming down the
pipeline that people should be looking forward to the teams
will be getting.
Speaker 2 (54:01):
I'm pretty I think the teams are getting some pretty
cool stuff. I'm not sure, but.
Speaker 1 (54:05):
There's some pretty dope stuff that that he has shared
in the in the group text and I'm looking forward
to seeing it and wearing it and having any sort
of input on on the things that he creates is
pretty dope.
Speaker 2 (54:20):
So looking forward to.
Speaker 3 (54:23):
Remind him that he has my address and I am
willing to wear whatever.
Speaker 1 (54:29):
I'm trying to get him in the sponsor the show,
so we'll we'll see. But no, there there is some
really cool compound gear that is going to be coming out.
I am going to give him a plug, mostly because
he's my brother, but definitely be on the lookout for that.
Speaker 2 (54:42):
It's really dope stuff. But back to wrestling Austin. What
what any any matches?
Speaker 1 (54:48):
Individual match and no, you know, we're just excited to
get some E w A and and IVY League duel meets.
Are there any sort of matches that we can look
forward to? Probably nothing at Lehigh considering all their guys
are red shirting.
Speaker 6 (55:05):
Yeah, I mean, Harty says. The answer here is Treffing,
Owen Treffing, getting him in the lineup. See what he
looks like, you know, being in a different singlet, different environment,
you know, and just how will Brown look on him?
Speaker 2 (55:16):
Brown looks good on everybody, just saying.
Speaker 3 (55:21):
That's not the important thing is is he growing his
hair back out? Now there's not an RTC anymore, because
that's that's the question we need to know. Owen Treffing
with long hair fantastic just needs to happen.
Speaker 6 (55:36):
Yeah, I might assume Friday, I'll know you said that.
Speaker 3 (55:39):
Oh yeah, every time I see him, I let him at.
Speaker 6 (55:42):
That, I let him know. But yeah, I mean, yeah,
I want to see him in the line up because
heavyweight at EWA, you know, there's four or five rank
guys in the top thirty three. Just expect him to be,
you know, probably top two of that. And you know,
see if he actually is going to stick there, it'd
be interesting to see. And you know, I'm a big
Ethan Bergen fan at an Army West Point, you know,
(56:03):
just to see where he stands with Crookham, you know,
just yeah, uh, Bergen has a win over Noto this year.
And you know, not as an All American type of guy.
And you know Bergen hangs close with Crook them. You
know he's in the All American Mixed there at thirty
three as well. So Army and lehih Duffie a good
match and looking forward to and you know, there's just
(56:25):
a lot of coming down the pipeline. I want to
see why these guys fall. It's hard for me to
do rankings. We don't have any common applonts against each other.
Speaker 3 (56:31):
Any Wolfgang matches you're looking forward to.
Speaker 6 (56:34):
I don't know he's been in Thatlina right now, but yeah,
I don't know. I do love the name though it
makes me hungry for German broughtworst or something.
Speaker 1 (56:47):
Yeah, Wa needs to give Auston something to rank IVY
League you two, Yeah, keV what what are what are.
Speaker 2 (56:55):
You looking at? Match?
Speaker 4 (56:57):
What?
Speaker 2 (56:57):
Individual?
Speaker 1 (56:58):
Match wise? As we've already spoke about out due meets.
You know, as I said, I'm big on Lucas Bird.
I love the the matchups that the Short King has
in the second half of the of this season. Who
are you looking towards to finish things out well?
Speaker 5 (57:15):
When we already talked about him a bit, I mean,
in general, I want to see if we can get
this consistency from Ramos through the season. I was really
looking forward to seeing, you know, Caleb Smith and Ramos
wrestle at Cliff Keem Las Vegas, and that didn't happen.
They're gonna wrestle, I think it's at the end of
the season, is when their dual meet is right before
Big Tens, so that'll be good. But you know, mccron's
(57:38):
up there, he's looking good this year. I'm kind of
more sad now that I'm looking at the schedules and
everything at what we're not gonna see, because now I
got all super pumped about Minnesota and I'm like, Okay,
well we're gonna get Minnesota Nebraska. That's gonna be awesome,
matches up and down the lineup, that's gonna be great.
But they don't wrestle Penn State this year.
Speaker 2 (57:56):
Yeah, and so you're.
Speaker 5 (57:58):
Not going to see Kerkfully and Gable until Big Tens.
So again we're looking at more stuff that we're not
going to see, and I like to see the things.
Speaker 4 (58:08):
So yeah, I don't know. I wish I had a
better answer for you.
Speaker 1 (58:11):
But no, I mean there that that is something that
I always take notice of of, just like what what
aren't we getting right?
Speaker 2 (58:21):
Like?
Speaker 1 (58:21):
What are what are we missing out on in the
second half or at least, you know, in the entire season.
Speaker 5 (58:29):
Well, and I know we talked about it before the
season got going, but I think before when we did that,
we didn't know Gable was back.
Speaker 4 (58:36):
And I don't think that I even I knew.
Speaker 5 (58:38):
We talked about how Minnesota had guys ranked up and
down the lineup, and I talked to Michigan, Minnesota is
going to be good, and I still believe that to
be the case. But you know it's now that now
it's even better, and now we're not getting it.
Speaker 1 (58:50):
So yeah, I wonder I wonder what Gable's schedule looks
like because because you know, obviously he's not in the
lineup for every single duel meet, but with Big Tens
coming around, or at least the Big Ten schedule coming around,
(59:11):
will he be in the lineup for the Iowa duel? Which, wait,
do they wrestle Iowa?
Speaker 4 (59:17):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (59:18):
They do?
Speaker 1 (59:18):
Will he be there that's on Valentine's Day? Will he
be there on Valentine's Day to wrestle Keeter?
Speaker 2 (59:25):
Right?
Speaker 1 (59:26):
Will Feldman be back, and will they see each other.
I'm sure we'll get a Gable versus. Well, I shouldn't
be I shouldn't say I'm sure. I hope we get
a Gable versus. Slavakuski match when they wrestle Rutgers. So
there's a number of matches that you have circled, or
(59:48):
at least that we have circled that you're just like,
will Gable.
Speaker 2 (59:51):
Be there or won't he be there?
Speaker 1 (59:55):
With Iowa being their last duel before Big Tens, probably
going to be there. I would be surprised if he
was not in the lineup for the I woulduel. I'm
sure he probably has the biggest dual meets circled. I'll
try and reach out to Eggham and just ask him
and say, like, hey, what's Gable's schedule right, Like we
(01:00:16):
want to be able to like hype this stuff and
see what we can do around like when he's going
to be in the lineup or whatever else. I'm also
gonna see if I can talk to Gable get an
interview with him, because I did talk to Agham about
that the day of the announcement and he was like, yeah,
we'll definitely make that happen, so be on lookout for
that as well. Before we wrap up, gentlemen, is there
anything else that we missed, anything that you wanted to
(01:00:39):
make note of, because obviously I think we'll probably not
talk until after the new year, as we'll all be
opening gifts or at least watching kids open gifts and
joining some family time. So anything else that we have
missed tonight or anything that you're looking forward to as
(01:01:01):
we go into twenty.
Speaker 3 (01:01:03):
Five, I'm sorry.
Speaker 5 (01:01:08):
Nope, you Blake Borman Chattanooga, the guy who got the
win yesterday over Bailey Bailey. I did want I did
want to shout him out because he he he so
when he when they wrestled Ohio State, like he and
Bizakis were like throwing punches early in the match like
(01:01:28):
hard clubs. It was like and I was like, this
guy like thinks he should be here and like so
when he when it went after Bailey, I was like,
this dude's got like some some some junk to him,
Like he's not he's not out there for fun. He's
out there to take your head off. So shout out
(01:01:49):
to him, and he's he's definitely somebody to watch out
for and I also wanted to give a shout out
to my dude Luke Smith at cal State Bakersfield. They
got a big ten win on Sunday over Michigan State.
Who travel out there at Bakersfield, you know they're they're
you know, obviously brought in some some additional talent with
Ferrari and me and Heiss and and you know, a
(01:02:10):
couple other guys. And he's been developing these guys too.
You know, you don't beat a big ten team by accident.
So and a lot of close matches where those guys
went after it, a couple of major decisions in there
as well, So I was just really impressed.
Speaker 4 (01:02:23):
I wanted to make sure we gave them a.
Speaker 5 (01:02:24):
Shout out because that's that's a big win for the
program who's trying to get re established and bring in
some talent.
Speaker 4 (01:02:31):
So I'm happy for him.
Speaker 1 (01:02:33):
Yeah, definitely not a one man show out there. It's
pretty awesome California coming on strong between Stanford and I'll see.
Speaker 3 (01:02:39):
Biggersfield that had a big win this weekend too, yeah,
over West Virginia.
Speaker 4 (01:02:45):
Yeah yeah, And.
Speaker 3 (01:02:49):
So a couple of people to keep your eye on
at collegiate duels from North Carolina. It's gonna tell us
a lot about kind of where they're at. Ethanley's got
some some real tough matches his next four matches. He's
got Anthony Knodo, Nick Wuzakis, Evan Frost this weekend, and
then it comes back with Connor McGonagall in his first
role back in the new year, so that's gonna be
(01:03:12):
a huge test for him. Josh Oginsania is gonna make
his debut attached for u NC this weekend, so that'll
be good to watch. And then ut Lachlan McNeill's got
some big matches coming up as well this weekend. He'll
have uh Dmilio and Etchimendia if ATCHI Mendi is Ago
and then comes right back with Kayla Penson. So we're
(01:03:34):
gonna learn a lot about where North Carolina is at
real quick with this weekend and their first week back.
Speaker 1 (01:03:42):
Awesome, and hopefully Austin gets people that he can actually rank,
get some results because upwards are bear for results in
the IVY and the nw A.
Speaker 3 (01:03:52):
There are too film reading books.
Speaker 2 (01:03:54):
Yeah here they are.
Speaker 1 (01:03:56):
Yeah, damn smart guys, Get get on the match, get
out of the class from.
Speaker 6 (01:04:01):
And I got one quick shout out here. I don't
talk about small schools too much, but talked to coach
Monday today. They actually have a nicer second semester ad
coming in Sincere Bailey. I believe that this year's brother
but little Rock. He's coming in second semester. Not a
ton of results at UNC from what I saw, but
(01:04:23):
pretty highly talented recruit. So hopefully he can fill in,
you know, fill in the line up there and make
some noise. I believe one fifty seven will be so
look out for Morgan State. They'll have some nice, nice
guys in line up there.
Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
Second semester awesome, that's great, That is great.
Speaker 1 (01:04:42):
Love to see teams develop and get more guys into
the lineup. So yeah, definitely looking forward to an explosive
second half of the year. As I said, the first
half has been awesome, and with conference competition starting in
this new year, things are just gonna get even better.
Speaker 2 (01:05:03):
Gentlemen, it has been a pleasure. Once again.
Speaker 1 (01:05:05):
I love everything that we're doing so far this year.
Looking forward to everything in twenty twenty five. To our
listeners and our watchers, appreciate you guys, appreciate the questions, comments,
like subscribes, all the fun YouTube jargon that.
Speaker 2 (01:05:20):
Everybody throws in the end of these videos. So yeah,
it's been great.
Speaker 1 (01:05:24):
Everyone, have a happy Holidays, happy New Year, Merry Christmas,
whatever you celebrate, make it happy, make it merry, and
we'll
Speaker 2 (01:05:31):
See you in twenty twenty five.
