Speaker 1 (00:00):
So welcome back to the Internet Wrestling Podcast, and today
we are manned down as Kevin is a little sick
but not going to power through it like Austin is
because he's a complete gangster. So it's just myself, Austin
and Robbie going to be chopping it up with you.
But no, Well wishes to Kevin. Hopefully he gets better
very soon. We'll have him back next week. But for

(00:24):
this week, we finally got some action that we can
talk about. And I'm going to start with Austin. You've
got IVY League and you've got ei w A. How
did things fare in the first competition of the IVY
League Conference.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Well, there wasn't a ton of IVY League stuff going on.
I know Penn had their Blue and White Wrestle Offs,
so you know they were competing, but Princeton hosted it
open and a lot of EIWA and IVY representatives were there.
Princeton had three champs, Tya wah Allen at one forty nine,
Mikey Squire's at eighty four, and Sebastian Garibaldi up.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Up at heavyweight one. Lee High had a bunch of
winners there as well.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
It was yeah, big old savvy and then yeah, I
mean biggest news of the IWA was Ethan Bergen at
one thirty three knocked off Anthony Nodo, two time All American.
I mean the finals at the Princeton Open. Interesting, I mean, fun,
fun little match, had a nice take down and overtime
did Bergen interesting though because he lost to Noo by

(01:32):
tech fall a year ago pretty much to the date.
So nice reversal win there for him and coming out
strong beating a two time All American you know, first
weekend of them of the season here.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Yeah, that's a hell of a way to kind of
put your stamp on things, right, You go from being
Tech at the same tournament a year ago to beating
that guy in overtime. And then for the host with Princeton,
I know they were they're pretty excited about about Whalen
last year and now he's you know, going to be
in the lineup and already showing promise with winning their

(02:04):
their home their their home tournament. So good showing for him.
So that's pretty awesome, right, And then you know, just
having those having that early season tournament and obviously some
some teams started with dual meets, but having that early
season tournament where you can invite guys in and not
just that, like your guys get to feel what it's

(02:26):
like to.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
Have a home duel and go through what their new.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Kind of prep is going to be, right, and where
they're going to go after matches, and how they're going
to go about prepping for a home duel meet. Right,
you can kind of show those guys the rope. So
it's awesome for Debuque. I had a chance to talk
to him last week Sean matext about something and he
was really excited about about the season, and so, yeah, awesome,
I saw that, Like I said, so all that Whalen

(02:53):
was picking up basically where he left off last year. Right,
they had seen him in a couple of open tournaments
that that, and they couldn't wait to get him on
the mat. Now he is, and he's he's already shown out,
and well what do we make of NOO losing an
early round or at least an early season match like that.
Obviously last year, you know, we saw how things panned

(03:15):
out at one twenty five and how there were a
lot of top rank guys that are falling, and you know,
this is the match that was at one thirty three.
But like we've seen the early season losses before and
we can overreact about them or we can kind of
put them in perspective. This one, I feel like you
can probably be a little bit in the center because,

(03:35):
like we said, this was a tech fall last year,
so you know what a what a year makes changes
things tremendously. Austin, what do you make of an early
season loss like this for a guy like Noto that's
been on the podium a couple of times.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Yeah, it's interesting you brought that up because I was
talking to coach Kevin Ward about that about that went specifically,
and he's on the opinion that moving from one twenty
five one thirty three might be the hardest weight class
jump there is, just because you know, you're wrestling such
smaller guys at one twenty five. You get up to
one thirty three, those guys are obviously bigger. You know,

(04:10):
that goes for any weight class. But yeah, I kind
of see what he's saying there. But you know, obviously
both guys are moving up for one twenty five here,
and it's just it was very strange to see, you know,
it's such a big turnaround from a tech fall that
they're losing it overtime a year later is you know,
you don't really see that often, but he did. You know,
props to Ethan Bergen. Coach Ward was really high on him, saying,

(04:33):
you know, the weight cut was a lot for him
last year. Moving up is really good for him because
now he can focus on the wrestling without worrying about
the weight as much. And you know it was an
open first week end of the season, right, so you know,
you get three four matches out of Thedea by the
time we hit the finals. You know, your legs a
little jelly, regardless sperit weightcutter or not. Right, you're not
in full season shape. We've all been there, but you

(04:55):
know it's still early. But not take away anything from Bergen.
It was a hell of a win for him, but
Army on the up.

Speaker 5 (05:01):
You had some some good wins last year too, right, Burden. Yeah,
he knocked off well his true freshman year two years ago.
He knocked off Brandon Kaylor first week end of the
season again, and last year he kind of got stuck.
Lost to Ramos pretty bad from Purdue, lost a nodo.
He lost to Camacho all like in the first weekend here,
so uh, not so much of a hot start last year,

(05:23):
but this year he's cracking it up for and oh
right now.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
That's great. I mean it seems like the weight change it.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
As you said, it can go either way, right, And
the thing is is a lot of one twenty five's
are younger under classmen. And obviously we've seen guys like
Spencer that who've been there, and obviously you know you
have Ramos who's who was there, you know, guys that
are upperclassmen. But a lot of times you do have
those freshmen that are coming in that are a lot
smaller and haven't hit that grown man growth spurt, right,

(05:56):
so you hit one thirty three and these guys are
a little bit older, you're a little bit more of
a level playing field and maybe you're seeing that, you know.
So time will certainly tell of what kind of season
noto has. It's only been week one, but you know
not to overreact, but that is a stark difference in
how seasons are truly starting. Now, Robbie over to you
in the a CC there and and for me, as

(06:19):
as somebody who isn't paying as closest attention to the
a CEC as I am the Big Ten with what
I cover, I was just like all in on on
Virginia Tech this weekend and how many people won that
they had that competed, but how they competed and competed
very well. What was your takeaway from not just the
Virginia Tech but the AC as a whole in week one?

Speaker 3 (06:42):
It was a great weekend.

Speaker 5 (06:44):
Currently ACC is undefeated, duels, Virginia beat NDSU, Virginia Tech
beat beat UTC. Stanford had two wins of Utah Valley
and Kyle Bakersfield. Even though Stemmitt lost the emoji battle
and there's another one missing. How Pitt Pitt took out
Navy very handily, So you know five and zero on

(07:07):
the dual front, opens went really well.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
Kind of hitting on Virginia Tech.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
Uh, you know, the guys I've been saying keep your
eye on people are finally kind of seeing getting to
see Hippolyto in action and see the wild stuff that
he can do with his hips and that don't make
any sense.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
He had a great weekend.

Speaker 5 (07:27):
Sonny Sasso undefeated pins in every match the first period,
So I'd say that's a pretty good, pretty good weekend.
But overall, just you know, across the board, solid performances
from pretty much every team. Duke even had a good
good weekend. Carnor Barkett made the finals. The Citadel lost

(07:48):
to Owen Treppan. But I mean, I think you could
pick out some some pretty solid things from every from
every ACC team this weekend.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Yeah, you mentioned the the emoji battle. However that I
mean no emoj were sacrificed, but also no souls were
sacrificed either. There was a soul that was supposed to
be taken and it was five to nothing, right, and
it wasn't this you know, dominant battle that you know it.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
Was expected to be.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
I guess.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
So I don't know if we say, okay, it was
Ferrari's first match in two years, or if we say okay,
maybe stem it has made some ground because the last
time they wrestled was a fourteen to six major kind
of the same that we're talking about with Noo, right,
is like, how do we really gauge that in week one?

(08:37):
But I think time will tell to see if Ferrari
is still on that track of if he is still
that guy. We did see some other you know, really
big time matches that happened in that weight class and
guys that looked really really good in the Big ten,
which we'll get to. But when you stick in that

(08:58):
weight class and you look at how Sonny Sasso wrestled,
and obviously he wasn't wrestling a Ferrari or Stemen or
anything like that. But first period falls throughout that entire tournament,
and I'm, you know, gonna completely put my and in
the duel right like full full Homer had on right now,
I'm proud of the kid from the from the dan
Le High Valley, right and like you've seen what he

(09:19):
was able to do last year when he was in
red shirt and how well he wrestled and how you know,
it wasn't like he was beating everybody in the world.
But like now that he's full go and he's had
a year under his belt and this is this is huge,
you know. And when when I talked to a lot
of those coaches in in the preseason before things started,

(09:40):
and I asked him about guys getting to wrestle during
that red shirt freshman year and having those five attached,
they they talked about the growth that guys go through
and how great it is that they have that chance
to be attached and wrestle against you know, in some
duel meets and have that experience. I think this is
exhibit of how well you can develop as an upperweight.

(10:03):
A lot of the times you're seeing these guys that
are normally smaller, right, that are that are in you know,
on the on the bottom half of the weight class.
I mean, obviously Gabe Arnold, we saw him last year
with I Will, but like guys that are on the
lower half of the of the weight class. Sonny Sasso
put in the work last year and it's starting to
show already this year. Like I said, obviously not wrestling

(10:24):
a ton of guys that are highly ranked, but being
dominant in the matches you're supposed to be dominant in
is a big gauge of a lot of things. And
you know, it's it's almost, you know, reminiscent of football,
where you're like, hey, this is a this is a
team you guys shouldn't need, that shouldn't even be in
your stratosphere, so you should go out and dominate and
put fifty points up on the board. That's what That's

(10:45):
what I saw from Sunny Sasso this uh this past weekend. Well, Robbie,
I want you to to kind of sing some praises
of Hippolito because you've been doing it all along. And
I saw your tweet of it's about time you guys
start to listen to me, you know, I tried to
tell you, and now he's already putting up highlight stuff.

Speaker 4 (11:02):
What was most impressive from Hippolito already in week one?

Speaker 5 (11:07):
I think his maturity, I think is what kind of
stands out to me, where he's not just looking for
those big moves, but he's wrestling position to position. He's
finding the big moves, but he's not you know, kind
of going out there just throwing shit at the wall
and seeing what happens. But I mean, this is a
kid who's only been wrestling for five years. He started

(11:29):
wrestling as a sophomore in high school. So he's got
a you know, a crazy amount of potential and he's
putting in the work, he's getting stronger, he's doing doing
everything he needs to do. My introduction to him was,
you know, being in the room one time watching him
and Bryce just play wrestle and that was wildly Entertainings

(11:51):
in the dryer.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Yeah, it's just do nothing makes sense.

Speaker 5 (11:55):
It's like, yeah, it's I couldn't do any of those
things even if I track.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
It's like two cuts in the alleyway fighting just on top.
What's going on here? It's something.

Speaker 5 (12:05):
But I mean he's he's going to be great, and
I mean he's he's got a huge upside and you
know work, he's working a lot with Tonelli.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
Now.

Speaker 5 (12:14):
Some of the Freyer hit on which I thought was
kind of interesting is that he said, uh Lenox Wollac
has a judo background and kind of saying a similar story.
He didn't start wrestling so he was in high school.
So you know they're kind of learning together and bouncing
things off each other and kind of go through that
process of coming from a different martial arts background and

(12:35):
figuring out ways to utilize that.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
So it's kind of cool.

Speaker 4 (12:38):
That's pretty awesome.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
I want to talk about NC State as well, you know,
them being the top of the a SEC as long
as they have, you know, they.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
Had they had a tournament as well.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
They you know, it wasn't world beating competition either, as
a lot of teams are kind of easing in things,
not not the biggest and baddest competition, but they had
a number of different guys that can.

Speaker 4 (13:01):
And that obviously.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
The first thing that comes to mind is Kai being
up at one forty one. How did he fare this
past weekend? And have you heard anything out of NC
State of how he's feeling being up at one forty one?

Speaker 3 (13:16):
Uh My.

Speaker 5 (13:17):
The most concerning thing I think with Kai is his mustache.
Very very concerned about that. He either really needs to
commit to growing a full mustache or just shave it
because it's kind of scary. And I'll let him know
that when I see him. But yeah, gotta gotta go
big here, man. No, he he looked good from the

(13:38):
limited limited matches that I saw of him. I think
it's it's going to be good for him to be
at one forty one. I do think it's going to
be a tougher adjustment once he starts hitting harder competition
because he's not going to be the biggest one forty one.
He's pretty big at one thirty three, for you know,
for for being at one thirty three, he wasn't huge,
but he was certainly big at the weight. But he's

(13:59):
not going to be big at one forty one, and
that's gonna be a big adjustment.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
For him.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
Yeah, Yeah, that's interesting because he's, you know, he was
very big for thirty three and he he's kind of
a tweeener, right, He's He's like, if there was a
if there was like a one thirty seven weight class,
he'd be perfect for it.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
That's interesting. Any other any other guys in the a
SEC that really stuck out to you?

Speaker 3 (14:26):
I think Luca Augustine looked really good in the duel.

Speaker 5 (14:31):
Let me think Christian not looked pretty good from NC
State stepping In won the champ the title, Citadel Open
or Citadel Battled Citadel, whatever.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
They're calling it, UVA.

Speaker 5 (14:45):
I want to highlight they looked fantastic in their duel
with with North Dakota State.

Speaker 3 (14:49):
Two upset wins.

Speaker 5 (14:51):
Gab A Porter got an upset win at thirty three,
Kyron Butler got an upset win forty one, lots of
bonus points. Rocco Contino looked fantastic, just you know, top
to bottom, they looked really, really solid. And talking with
a friend of mine, who you know, is also a
coach in the charles Ville area and has been around
for a long time, and his his comment was, you know,

(15:12):
that's the best I've seen Uba look in fifteen years,
and I don't think he's wrong. I think they have
a really dangerous team. They're like I've been saying that
it's going to take the entire sets first semester to
kind of settle it into those lightweights and figure out
what they're going to do. But they have a lot
of really good options and if they can stay healthy,
they're going to be a dangerous team this year.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
Yeah, I mean didn't didn't last year.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
I mean obviously they had some trouble with scheduling and
different things. Is is are things on track better for
them this year? And that's what you're seeing with having
a better start to their season part of it.

Speaker 5 (15:50):
Yeah, by this point in the year last season, before
the first week, they already had three guys I think
three guys out with these ending injuries that were supposed
to be starters.

Speaker 3 (15:59):
So oh, that was kind of the story of their season.

Speaker 5 (16:03):
They lost guys left and right all year and it
was it was really just kind of a test of
depth at that point.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
But they've changed the way they've approached practice.

Speaker 5 (16:13):
They've changed some some stuff with their strength and conditioning
program and it seems to be paying off. But the
recruiting has been great the last couple of years as well,
so they have that depth, and having a year where
that depth was tested, I think is actually gonna be
helpful in the long run because then those.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
Guys have experience they wouldn't have had otherwise.

Speaker 1 (16:32):
Agreed, And you guys had a little crossover, a little
Navy pit action, and obviously, you know, Austin's gonna talk
about it.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
Austin gonna take maybe that's fair.

Speaker 4 (16:43):
That was not pretty for Navy.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
I mean we expected it to be a little bit better,
and maybe we were. We were basing it off of
maybe's hot start last year, thinking Okay, this can be
something that can turn around, even though they didn't end
the season on as much of a hot start as
they did to start. What did you guys make of

(17:07):
the really good start by Pitt, I guess and the
not so good start from Navy.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
Yeah, it's it's a they I think got a good
credit to Pitt. They were ready, you know, I think
that they kind of circled this one a little bit.
Felt maybe they should have lost that one last year
right when Navy coming in. But yeah, I think Navy,
just like we talked before, we started. I think you
wrestless month. This match a month or two into the season.

Speaker 3 (17:31):
It's a little.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
Different obviously, but you know a lot of those matches
weren't even close. Looking at the box scores here, it's
like sixteen to sixteen at the Major after Major, and
you know, just kind of a beatdown from Pitt there
to my Navy midship man. Not a good showing, but
like we keep saying, it still early, right.

Speaker 5 (17:51):
I think as a battleship was sunk this weekend, for sure.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
It was. It was domination from the jump. They started
off with a pin in the tech ball.

Speaker 5 (18:03):
They're only only win for Navy was coder Ant over
UH Santana Yellow by one point, and you know, from
there it was a yeah, it's other than you know,
last and Augustine another one point match, third one, third
time they've had a one point match in the last
three outings.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
So it's there.

Speaker 5 (18:22):
They've continued to go back and forth, and I think
Luca looked really good.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
Was really really impressed with Daton Pitzer.

Speaker 5 (18:29):
I know Larsen's not, you know, the best competition for
him to kind of gauge anything, but I think he
looked really good.

Speaker 3 (18:40):
Do.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
Is there any other crossovers that you guys have this week?

Speaker 5 (18:44):
Yah, Navy's gonna lose again to North Carolina this week. Oh,
there's actually gonna be a couple of good matches in
that one that that we can hit.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
H we start talking about previews.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
I mean, if we're gonna hit on North Carolina, sunny
Santiago did not have the best weekend. And and I'm
hesitant to say anything because I'm obviously very good friends
with his dad, but I mean not hesitant, but like
it's it's not good for him to have that type.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
Of opening weekend whatsoever.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
So hopefully he can bounce back. Hopefully he can he
can make some changes. But that's not a good way
that you want to start things off.

Speaker 5 (19:27):
I mean, it wasn't terrible, certainly wasn't optimal, but you know,
God is going to be really really good. I mean,
losing to a high schooler sucks just in general as
a college guy.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
But but that's not you know, a slacky, random high
schooler either.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
He's Yeah, I had had a chance to see get
a guy at Elite eight and one. I had no
idea how to say his name. I still don't his
name is guy. That's how you pronounce.

Speaker 3 (20:04):
That's not what it says.

Speaker 4 (20:04):
It is guy. Yes, but he is good. He is
very good.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
He didn't wrestle in the Championship duel meet, but he
was pretty dominant throughout that entire tournament, you know, and
obviously that's an all season tournament. So he's not in
the best shape, right but looked very very good. Looked
very very good. So he does have a big upside.

(20:29):
I expect him to do very well. I mean, not
just in high school but on the next level.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (20:34):
I think the bigger the bigger conservers for Sonny was
was the lost to kid from Davidson Tanner Pete and
just kind of across the board, Sonny didn't didn't really look.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
Fantastic.

Speaker 5 (20:49):
I mean, he scored some points, he got a couple
of takedowns in all three of his wins. He just
didn't look like, you know that he appeared to have
kind of turned the corner last year and and was
figuring things out and making some really good runs. And
he didn't look the same as he did last year.
So I'm interested to see, you know, maybe it was
a bad cut, maybe he just wasn't quite ready yet, but.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
I'm interested to see what he looks like next weekend.

Speaker 5 (21:14):
Yeah, but I mean on the whole, UNC had a
great weekend. Spencer Moore was undefeated when the when the
the Southeast Open, Gosh, who else they had it? Eathan
Oakley first year, he transferred over from Upstate Jayden Scott
at forty one, uh Lachlan McNeil made the finals and

(21:36):
lost to uh Tye Waters West Virginia. I think it
was a sudden victory match and Waters got to take
down in sudden victory. But just kind of overall, they
looked solid.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
A couple of.

Speaker 5 (21:48):
Champs in the freshman division as well, So it's good
to see the youth making some making some noise for UNC.
I think that's that says a lot about where they're
already at under Cole in year two, So I think
that's a I think that's a positive.

Speaker 4 (22:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
In the in the Big ten, obviously, the a lot
of eyes were on Iowa. Iowa took the trip to
Oregon State. The biggest match was at one ninety seven,
saw Buchanan get that come from behind win.

Speaker 4 (22:20):
He looked very good.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
Obviously, Iowa's lineup is a very tough lineup, and they
showed that they are certainly as advertised. The only thing
I think that we didn't get a chance to see
was Jacory Teamer being in the lineup, you know, and
then obviously what are they what what's gonna become the
consistent look for Iowa at seventy four eighty four. You know,

(22:45):
Nelson brands in at seventy four, he gets a two
to one win, not very impressive, but he also hasn't
had a match in a year. Gabe Arnold and Drake
Ayala looked absolutely amazing. You know, we already talked about
making the jump from twenty five to thirty three. Ayala
was ill is about the same size as kai Orni,
so him being at thirty three or at least even

(23:08):
being at twenty five last year, you know, he was
he was definitely cutting some weight, so he looked amazing
at thirty three. It was really cool to see uh
a California high school rematch in the one twenty five
match between maximoll ren Aria and Joey Cruz. I remember
seeing those guys wrestle at doc B back in the day,

(23:31):
and and and you know, now having them at one
twenty five in these in their college in their college rooms.
Rent Threa obviously is a new ad for for Oregon State.
He just transferred there this year. But that was a
really solid match. Those guys are always going to scrap, obviously,
There's there's a little bit of California pride that happens
in that one, So no surprise that that one went

(23:53):
the way that it did. And then another team that
was on on a road trip was Indiana. Indiana was
out in California. They come back with two wins and
they looked really really good doing it. You know, only
lost three total matches scores of thirty four to four
and thirty one eleven over CBU and cal Poly. So good,

(24:17):
good road trip for them. But a team that I'm
going to probably be very high on in the Big
Ten this year is Illinois, and it's probably because I
love Lucas Bird, as I've said before, but they just
they Bird is definitely the word for me this year
when it comes to one to this weight class. But

(24:40):
they just looked powerful. They opened up last year with
with s I U E. They opened up with them
again this year and it was a stark difference. I
think the final score I have to take a look.
But forty one three, there you go, thank you. That's
a stark difference what it looked like last year, you know.

(25:02):
And and they got bonus points from all the new
faces that are in the lineup this year that weren't
there last year. All bonus point wins, Canon Webster bonus
point tech Fall at forty nine. He's a transfer as
well as Crazier so and then obviously the Brone Goals
and then Birds. So I am I am going to

(25:24):
be looking at Illinois a lot this year because it's
not just edmund Ruth that they need to rest their
hat on anymore. It's these guys that have that were
taking red shirts last year or even the transfer that
they have. So I think they're going to be very
very powerful throughout the throughout the year, and I think
that people should definitely be unnoticed for what Illinois is bringing.

(25:48):
And when they get to their Big ten schedule, we'll
dig into that a little bit more because they have
a hell of a Big ten start, but that's not
until after.

Speaker 4 (25:55):
The new year.

Speaker 3 (25:56):
They're non conference schedules really good too.

Speaker 1 (25:58):
It is, Yeah, they have a they have a really
good schedule this year that I think is going to
have them prepared.

Speaker 4 (26:07):
Uh when when we get to the latter half of
the year.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
I mean they're wrestling Arizona State this weekend, you know,
and obviously Arizona State lost a lot of firepower with
losing teamer as well as Park go to Iowa. But
there's still Arizona State, right, they still have very good
guys in that lineup. So you know the the Journeyman
event that's going to be happening in Bethlehem, Austin.

Speaker 4 (26:31):
Are you going to that?

Speaker 3 (26:34):
If I go over my little flu game here like
I'm j did I being there?

Speaker 5 (26:39):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (26:40):
To the old stopping grounds?

Speaker 4 (26:42):
Yeah, I mean it's gonna be good.

Speaker 3 (26:45):
Let's let's go back to this s I U E
match again real quick. What Uh? This box score is
very interesting.

Speaker 5 (26:54):
We have bonus points across the board except for you
know what you would expect to be the highest ranked
guy on the Illinois team with Edmund Ruth winning in
sudden victory. Sudden victory, Darren Pulliam.

Speaker 4 (27:09):
I've yeah, that that stuck out to me there. I
don't know, honestly, It's just.

Speaker 1 (27:17):
And it's something we saw with Edmund Ruth last year too,
where it usually gets a little slow.

Speaker 3 (27:23):
Yeah, like it's.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
Very weird where he's he's very good. He has the
kind of the same lax style that that ed had,
but without the sheer dominance of a finishing cradle that
we saw from Ed as well. And I hate to
make comparisons with siblings and with relatives and stuff, but

(27:47):
they wrestle very similarly. They certainly do wrestle very similarly.
But when when you watch Edmund, like I said, it's
it's a little bit too lax in certain situations maybe
where you feel like he should be picking it up
or you feel like he should be dominating. He certainly
should have been dominating in this match and he didn't right.

(28:09):
So again, not to overreact to early early results, but
from what we saw from him last year, where it
was just like man, there's there's definitely something to be
said about how he looked in a lot of in
some dol means last year. Obviously he ended up in

(28:31):
All American, but he looked this way in doll meats too.

Speaker 4 (28:35):
Maybe it's taking things a.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
Little bit lax and not really getting up unless the
lights are the brightest, But yeah, that was that kind
of stuck out to me. Too, where you're just like,
you know, all these guys, you know, Bird major decision,
Casino major decision, Webster, tech fall, pin from Crazer, another
tech fall at sixty five from Skulls, and then I've

(29:00):
basically tech falls from the Bronugle brothers, and then and
then a major decision at heavyweight. I mean the only
the only loss was at one twenty five, where that
was honestly shocking because you know, Adasov is very good
and expected to be kind of a force for them.
But outside of that that loss that they took at

(29:20):
twenty five, you're just kind of looking at Edmond Ruth
and you're like, man, sudden victory, What was what was
really going on?

Speaker 3 (29:25):
Right?

Speaker 1 (29:26):
And you know, maybe it's just an early match where
you know, we shouldn't be overreacting to it. Probably, but
as I said, he had those same style of matches
last year, and you're just like, has he gotten over
I don't know, maybe the the laid back lacks type
of attitude in some of these some of these bouts.

(29:46):
So yeah, we'll see, I mean, certainly time will tell
how things, how things go, but yeah, that that was
that was an outlier of the rest of the team's
results of nothing but bonus point wins. And then also,
I know we talked about the Clarion Open Michigan as
well as Ohio State. Both were at the Michigan Open,

(30:06):
and the result for me that was like, oh okay,
was Ben Divino beating Nick Buzakis five to three. You know,
freshman comes in and you know, beats your potential starter.
I don't think that this changes anything within the team
and within the team dynamic. Really, I think Buzaka still

(30:28):
will remain the starter. I couldn't see them putting Divino
in because of this one result, but it definitely shows
you that Ohio State has a guy that's potentially going
to be on the shelf that can do some damage.
Outside of that, with Ohio State seeing Roco Welsh up
at one eighty four, I don't think we make too

(30:49):
much of it. I don't think he stays at eighty four.
I think it's just the opening opening season tournament. Wasn't
going to get down to seventy four, Go get some
matches in. When things happened, we'll get you down to
eighty four. He most likely wahed at seventy seven or
seventy eight, so he's within striking distance anyway, So I

(31:09):
don't really make.

Speaker 4 (31:10):
Too much of that.

Speaker 1 (31:13):
But the I think, and this is, this is a
reason why I think Kevin is not here is because
Sergio Lemley took a loss.

Speaker 3 (31:23):
Yeah, and and.

Speaker 1 (31:25):
I think that that just turned his stomach as the
the number one member and president of the Sergio Lemley
Band Club. Yeah, like it is it it'll make you
sick for a little bit. It'll it'll do that, Austin.
You know, I want to hear what your thoughts were
on this match, because before it even happened, you came

(31:46):
into our group chat and you were like, hey, this,
you know, standing versus Lemley could happen.

Speaker 4 (31:50):
What are we thinking about it?

Speaker 1 (31:51):
And then as soon as it ended, the first message
we got was from Kevin and he was already sick.

Speaker 4 (31:55):
So what do you make of this one?

Speaker 3 (31:58):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (31:58):
It was it was a good win for standards, you know,
it kind of shows where he's at, moving up from
one twenty five up to forty one and.

Speaker 4 (32:07):
Jump.

Speaker 3 (32:07):
Yeah he's still and he's huge.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
He got up to over one fifty five, over one
sixty this year from what I've heard. Wow, So yeah,
he's down the forty one, we're a little more natural way.
He's still playing the red shirt this year.

Speaker 4 (32:21):
But sounds like too many trips of the goose at
the bottom of the hill.

Speaker 5 (32:24):
Well yeah, they were joking that his NILG was McDonald's
because he gets so much weight. But yeah, it was
good to see Beard out there making some you know,
putting some offense together.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
And you know, we had had some other guys out there.
Nate Taylor got second. It was just good to see
those guys out there just looking at different competition. I
think they were out there specifically to see some guys
that were going to be at Clarion compared to Princeton Open,
you know, So it was good to see those guys
out there.

Speaker 1 (32:53):
Yeah, yeah, I mean overall for the Big Ten, it
was a it was a pretty good weekend seeing a
lot of these guys back in their lineups, specifically the
guys in Illinois. As I mentioned, you know, Maryland also
went went to and O. They they beat ken State
and Bucknell, so Maryland getting off to a good start.

(33:16):
But yeah, I mean, there's there are some good wrestling
last weekend. No matter which conference you were you were
taking notice of, but specifically for me, it was. It
was seeing one how those guys did it Clarion Open,
because Clarion Open, there's always a good a good amount
of competition that we see there in the season opener.

(33:37):
And then obviously IWA traveling to Oregon State and not
just not just the Doel meat, but what it did
from a marketing standpoint as well. I saw somewhere that
there were over four thousand fans that were there, which
is really good for a season opener, And and you know,
just everything that Oregon State is doing, and you know,

(33:58):
I I love how and I hate to call them
like lesser teams, but the teams with lower fan bases,
how they're how they're making sure that they are marketing
these top teams when they're.

Speaker 4 (34:08):
Going, when they're inviting them in.

Speaker 1 (34:09):
You know, you see, like I said, I think we've
mentioned this before, but like you know, Lehigh doing what
they're doing when Penn State comes moving moving it over
to the PPL Center, and then obviously Oregon State doing
some things with Iowa. So hopefully we see a lot
more of this, and I'm sure that you know, the
NC State Oklahoma State match will have a lot of

(34:30):
good attendance again this year.

Speaker 4 (34:32):
It always does so.

Speaker 1 (34:34):
But then outside of that, you know, the the match
that obviously kicked the season off was on Halloween with
Wyoming and Campbell and obviously them wrestling in a different venue, and.

Speaker 4 (34:47):
It looked like pretty pretty uh exclusive, do.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
Me right, Like it was in a not a big room,
but the challenge, the challenge hat was thrown on the mat.

Speaker 4 (34:57):
Guys are wearing you know, these cowboys hats.

Speaker 1 (35:00):
There were there were some some chaps that were being
worn from the from the coaches, and it was awesome
and I love the theme of what they did and
I had seen I think Scotty Sensis said, I think
you know we're gonna have to run it back now
that it's it's one and one over the last two
years where each team has now won a duel.

Speaker 4 (35:19):
So I thought it was awesome.

Speaker 1 (35:21):
Hopefully we see more teams kind of get into the
spard And I know we mentioned that I think Campbell
is gonna be doing another another dual meet that's.

Speaker 4 (35:30):
You know, not in a normal venue.

Speaker 1 (35:31):
So let's keep the marketing going with a lot of
these off campus type of duels. But I want to
move to to this week and what we have coming
up and I'm gonna start with with you, Robbie and
the a c C. What what what has your attention
this week as we go into for some week one,

(35:51):
but you know for the rest of us week Week
two of the a c C.

Speaker 5 (35:56):
Well, I think let's let's stick on that that marketing point,
in the non traditional point. We've got the Battleship Duel
throw it down on the Yorktown in Charleston this weekend.
UVA is heading down there and they're going to have
I believe Gardner web and.

Speaker 2 (36:16):
Citadel I think Citadel, Yeah, because Army vessels, Gardner Webb
and the Citadel.

Speaker 3 (36:21):
Yeah. So that's a pretty cool event.

Speaker 5 (36:25):
If you haven't seen it. It's actually an official from
the SoCon who's also like a state representative I think,
came up with this idea. We've seen, you know, the
present state had the duel on the Midway a few
years ago and they expanded it. This one's going to
be on on the Yorktown, which is in the Harbor
and Charleston, and it's going to be multiple duels. They

(36:47):
have a women's duel, they have several men's duels. So
it's going to be a pretty cool event. I think
they've done a good job put it together. It's going
to be a pretty small crowd just because of the
the allow is on the venue, but it's gonna be
a pretty sweet setup. Hopefully the weather cooperates to to
allow it to be fun.

Speaker 4 (37:09):
Nice, nice, nice nice.

Speaker 1 (37:11):
Austin, what's happening in your neck of the was with
E w A and in the Ivy League.

Speaker 2 (37:17):
I will be at Wranglemania, which is a Journeyman event,
a bunch of duels going on on Saturday at Liberty
High School. Holmes is probably wrestling ed Gym a million times.

Speaker 4 (37:29):
Yeah, my mom's alma mater actually, And.

Speaker 2 (37:32):
Then Sunday I'll be at the Journeyman Classic with where
they have their round robin matchup matchups. There a lot
of good matchups looking forward.

Speaker 3 (37:39):
To and that's always a great event, always a great event.

Speaker 4 (37:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (37:45):
Yeah, I'm excited for.

Speaker 2 (37:48):
Specifically one thirty three because there's gonna be a lot
of right guys there, like Crookham. Still not sure if
he's wrestling yet, haven't got word he should.

Speaker 1 (37:57):
He's gotta he's got to defend that title. That's where
that's that's the place that made him number one last.

Speaker 5 (38:02):
Ye that's what put him on the map last year. Yeah,
and it's his hometown too, you know.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
It's yeah, one of the five schools in Bethlehem, and
he's he's he's wrestling there. You know, Julian Cleebow coming
back from Arizona State, Lucas Bird is going to be
in the mix there. Penn State has a partial team,
so I imagine Brandon Brandon Davis might be wrestling, you know,
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (38:25):
He's going to wrestle before December, so that's cool. Yeah, well,
we'll see what happens. I don't know what partials it
might be.

Speaker 2 (38:32):
Penn State's backups, which who are still top ten guys? Right, Yeah,
a lot of good, a lot of good wrestling this
weekend in Lehigh Valley.

Speaker 3 (38:42):
Yeah, n C State will be up there. I think
pitt sending some guys On Sunday.

Speaker 5 (38:50):
Duke is up there for the Duels. I think they
have Rutgers and lu Lu there. We go at the Sharks,
Sharks and the Blue Devils. That's a pretty fun matchup.

Speaker 2 (39:01):
And Oklahoma State is going to be at the Classic
on Sunday as well. Really, I'm not sure if that's
their full lineup. Or not I have I should get
more info in that, but that's the first time that
they're doing this event, so that'll be interesting.

Speaker 4 (39:15):
We'll have to check with Hackney and see what he's
got on that state.

Speaker 3 (39:19):
That's a very interesting one.

Speaker 2 (39:20):
Yeah, and then obviously you miss Cornell. They're a season
opener here too, And yeah, I like this event too
because you know teams like Cornell, I know Lee High
and other teams in the mix.

Speaker 5 (39:30):
Obviously too. They have multiple guys at one weight, you know,
they don't know who's going to be the guy, so
they throw them out in the same pool, wrestle each
other once, and they wrestle to other guys and see
who comes out on top.

Speaker 3 (39:40):
It's a good way to.

Speaker 2 (39:41):
Find out who your started is, at least at that point, right.
That's kind of how Crookham won the starting job last year.
He beat his teammate McGonagall, who was a top seven guy.

Speaker 3 (39:50):
Who had a great weekend.

Speaker 5 (39:52):
Yeah, yeah McGonagall, did I saw that? So yeah, it's
a fun time.

Speaker 4 (39:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (39:59):
Yeah, I'm I'm going to be locked on the Michigan
State Open. That is where a lot of things are
going to be happening, and obviously watching journeyman as well,
is specifically that one thirty three pound round robin that
that we're gonna get a chance to see, as well
as the dual meets. You know, Illinois has Arizona State
as we said, but then obviously that that next day

(40:21):
where we have all the dual meets and things like that.

Speaker 3 (40:24):
And then forty nine will be a fun wait there too. Yeah,
it'll be a good one to keep your eye on.

Speaker 1 (40:31):
Yeah, that should be a ton of fun. I'm trying
to think who else was the other one?

Speaker 5 (40:35):
So Stanford is making their their first big trip going
to the lovely state of Iowa.

Speaker 3 (40:42):
Hmm.

Speaker 5 (40:42):
They'll have Iowa State and Iowa this weekend, So it's
going to be a hell of a weekend for the
cardinal coming off you know, two duels last weekend, Garvin
getting upset by by bar Claw. That was a pretty big,
pretty big match. So interesting to see how he bounces
back because he's gonna have he's gonna have some tough

(41:04):
matchups this weekend too.

Speaker 4 (41:07):
Yeah, that is true.

Speaker 1 (41:08):
Yeah, it's i And we said this before we hopped on,
like this is what it's gonna look like for Stanford
where it is it is going to have to be
some road trips that they're doing and getting a number
of duels within a couple of days. I'm looking forward
to seeing how they do against Iowa and Iowa State

(41:29):
and then obviously with Utah Valley is taking on Nebraska
in Lincoln this this weekend too, so that should be
that should be pretty awesome to see how Nebraska, who
is a top five team right now, how they look

(41:50):
in a dual meta. I don't think they've had anything yet. Yeah,
I don't think that they Yeah, they didn't compete last week,
so this will be their first competition and it's a
whole so hopefully they can they can pack their gym
as they welcome Utah Valley and see what they can do. So,
you know, all eyes on them as well as as

(42:11):
they look to live up to their ranking, right like
they come in with a ton of guys that are returning,
and then obviously you have all read as well as
Lenny Pinto dropping to seventy four and eighty four, you know,
and then and then Taylor dropping to seventy dropping to
sixty five. So like there's a lot of guys that
are dropping weight in that lineup. It'll be very interesting

(42:33):
to see how they compete down.

Speaker 5 (42:35):
I want to see how that goes over the course
of the season. That's gonna be That's a that's a
lot of cutting.

Speaker 1 (42:42):
I saw some of their I mean they had their
their wrestle offs last week, so that it was in
their wrestling room, and I think I saw some clips
or something like that.

Speaker 4 (42:52):
I didn't watch full matches.

Speaker 3 (42:54):
But.

Speaker 4 (42:56):
It's gonna I mean, they they look you know a
lot of those guys look really good.

Speaker 3 (42:59):
But uh yeah, Smith lost.

Speaker 4 (43:02):
Yeah, I did see that.

Speaker 1 (43:04):
That was that was the thing that took that kind
of caught my eye as I was scrolling through. I
was like, oh, okay, let's let's check this out. But yeah,
I think you're right, Robbie. Like these guys, I mean,
they've commit to it, and I've you know, you've seen
pictures of them.

Speaker 4 (43:17):
You've seen them in some videos they say. There was a.

Speaker 1 (43:20):
Video of Silas already talking about dropping down to eighty four.
It looks good, looks strong, but there's a whole big
ten season that you've got to keep that strength. I
wonder how much load management will be involved in their
season to keep them healthy and not banged up. When

(43:41):
when you know, the latter half of the season comes along,
because that's I mean, we've said it a number of times.
The Big ten season is rough, and they're a month out,
They're a month out from it. They have Vegas like always,
which is always tough, and we'll be a very good
gauge for them, But no this weekend and them having
Utah Valley. Obviously that the big one will be the

(44:03):
bear Claw match, but then you know Iowa having Stanford
and then the Michigan State Open and then things that
are going on at in Bethlehem or are some of
the bigger things.

Speaker 3 (44:15):
That Garvin will be a great match are happening.

Speaker 4 (44:19):
Yes, that's what I was gonna get to.

Speaker 1 (44:21):
Caliendo looked pretty darn good in Oregon State, and I
think that's gonna be one that that will be probably
the premier match of that don't meet would be the
one that that people should be looking out for this weekend.
And then there, I know we we kind of skipped

(44:42):
over it, but I want to get to the Big twelve.

Speaker 4 (44:45):
Big twelve.

Speaker 1 (44:45):
I mean, we we already talked about how things went
with Utah Valley, but Alirez back in the lineup and
get to get to win over Josh Edmund.

Speaker 4 (44:57):
That was awesome. And then what was the other one
that I had seen? Was it Waters? The what match?

Speaker 3 (45:09):
Cool? And one? That one that was that was a
good match.

Speaker 1 (45:12):
Yeah, yeah, thy Waters beating Lochlan McNeil. That was the
other one that I had seen at the Southeast Open. Yeah,
getting you know, a top ten another top ten match
up that early, those guys seeing each other already, that's
that's a big one. And you know, and tie Waters

(45:34):
is huge by the way he's he is not a
small forty nine by any stretch of the imagination. But
that was a good match, and you know, Robbie, what
were your thoughts on on that matchup? Lachlan obviously had
a not so good stretch last year and you know,

(45:57):
had a quest of trying to make the Olympic team
and at least make the Olympics and everything else. But like,
that's a that's a I mean, obviously they're three and six.
Waters is ranked higher. What do you what do you
make of an early season close loss that that Lachlan
had already?

Speaker 3 (46:16):
I don't think I make much of it.

Speaker 5 (46:18):
It was a sudden victory loss to the number three
guy in the country at a new weight, so I'm
not not going to put too much stock in that.
I think Lachlan better than a lot of people in
the country, makes adjustments and is able to to to
fix mistakes pretty quickly.

Speaker 4 (46:37):
You saw him do it at NCAA's last year.

Speaker 5 (46:40):
Yes, I mean, he's a two time All American for
a reason. Canadian, All American, all Canadian American, know how
that works.

Speaker 4 (46:48):
All American, Canadian there we go.

Speaker 5 (46:51):
But I mean he's I'm not going to take make
too much of it. It didn't have much other competition
this weekend. Max Peterson was probably his best match of
the weekend rankings wise, anyone nine to four, So I mean,
not a whole lot of takeaway from that. I'd like
to see him against Waters again later in the season.
I think size wise, Waters is a lot bigger. He's

(47:14):
cutting down to more forty nine and Lachlan just moved up,
so I think that's a difference there.

Speaker 4 (47:23):
Agreed.

Speaker 1 (47:25):
I don't think there was really anything any other check
PAC twelve. I know, I think we talked about all
these already. Yeah, Oregon State, Yeah, we talked about PAC
twelve a good bit. They faced off against some other
cross conference competition. But yeah, I'm I mean it was
it was great to have wrestling back, but it's it's

(47:46):
you know, these first couple of weeks is like drinking
from a fire hose where you don't know where to look,
and there's a lot of results and a lot of
things that are coming at you. We will do our
best to bring all the different results, at least the
top results.

Speaker 4 (48:00):
Discuss all of them.

Speaker 1 (48:01):
Any other shots you want, you guys want to call
uh going into this weekend?

Speaker 5 (48:11):
Mm hmm, let me think on that. I think Garvin,
I think Garvin gets to win. I think he bounces
back from a tough weekend and and goes to and
oh this weekend in his road trip, there's like a
m J Guyton Yeah, Iowa State and then Caliendo. So
it's not gonna be easy weekend, but that's gonna be

(48:35):
a gonna be an important one.

Speaker 4 (48:36):
Caliendo looked tough, man, I don't, I don't know. That's
a that's a taller order than than the m J match.

Speaker 5 (48:44):
I agreed, So he's too, but that's a different conversation.

Speaker 4 (48:49):
Yeah, a lot more expensive.

Speaker 1 (48:54):
Awesten anything happening in in in your part that uh
that we missed, or or you want to call any
shots you want to make any wagers on who wins
that bracket At one thirty three at Bethlehem.

Speaker 2 (49:09):
I just don't know who's going to be wrestling and
if they're going to be the same pools, you know, because.

Speaker 3 (49:13):
These Yeah, when do they do the pools? Do they
release them on Saturday? It's usually that morning.

Speaker 5 (49:19):
Yeah, it's usually the coaches get together night before and hey,
are my guys number five, you're guys number eight? We
don't want them to match, just early so they'll be
opposite pools.

Speaker 1 (49:30):
I hope that they're just like put all the dogs
in one ring and let you would all.

Speaker 3 (49:34):
Love that, right, It's just it just doesn't happen.

Speaker 1 (49:36):
But yeah, and it's I mean, it's early enough. It's
it's honestly early enough. Like and I don't know, maybe
maybe I'm maybe I'm stupid, right, but if I'm if
I'm a coach, I'm like, I want my guy to
see what crook them is all about? Right, If crook
them is in is in there, I want, you know,
if I'm Julian Kleebo, I want to wrestle Crook them

(49:59):
and not just because we're from the same hometown. Right
If I'm Lucas Bird, I want to see what Crookem's
all about. He's the top rank guy in the country,
so I wouldn't want any sort of and obviously me
as as a as a as a fan, I want
to see all those guys in one back. But if
I'm a coach, I want to see it too. You
want to see how your guy matches up. You want
to see how he's ready, and you know, and having

(50:22):
that match at this point, that's that's nothing but teach
tape for later on. It's something that you can watch
and see what a guy transitions into as the season
goes on, and I I want I'd want my guy
to go out there and feel it, see what he's got,
feel what his technique is.

Speaker 5 (50:39):
I mean, but how about it all d eleven Pool
with Clebo right, Hunger, Crookub and Ryan Miller. I'm called
Frank Pop right now.

Speaker 1 (50:50):
Yeah, I mean, if he's smart, that's what he does.
It's how you get the butts in the seats. The
Leah Valley will come out for that one, for sure.
They certainly will come out for that one. But I
mean and that's a pretty awesome.

Speaker 4 (51:00):
That's a.

Speaker 1 (51:02):
Brad Wilson has has his work cut out for him
if that's the if that's the pool this weekend, so yeah,
we'll certainly see.

Speaker 4 (51:09):
But now, I mean that'd be awesome.

Speaker 5 (51:11):
I mean if we just go through and look at,
you know, potential participants in this this tournament. Twenty five
Richie Figgs, Jacob Camacho, Greggy d thirty three you've already
hit on forty one MARENI will be making his big
big test there Henson, Yessegary, I'm Posto, Vince Cornella. So

(51:32):
there's some good competition there. Fifty sevens Meyers, Shapiro and
Ed Scott. Now it's gonna be a fun one. Sixty
five Julian Ramirez, Derek Fields had a great weekend. Interested
to see him against some tough competition. And eighty four
Ed Ruth, Edmund Ruth, Chris Foca, Ding Fishbackeries Heller another
good weight. Ninety seven Beard bronegle maxed out. There's some

(51:55):
there's gonna be some potential fantastic matches to eighty five
is is a great way to Colton Schultz on his
thirty seventh year of eligibility Nathan Taylor.

Speaker 4 (52:05):
He hit a knee the other day, No.

Speaker 3 (52:08):
Way, he and my knees don't work. I know his don't.

Speaker 1 (52:13):
I don't know if it was I don't know if
it counts because it was during the wrestle off, but
the man hit a knee and and I I nearly
fell out of my chair.

Speaker 4 (52:23):
I was like, still knows a penetration step. Didn't know
this man could be a leg grabber.

Speaker 1 (52:29):
And I what I should have said, I should have
I should have tweeted it and said, looks like Colton
Schultz is transitioning over to freestyle because he's taken shots
now seriously, but yeah, I'm pretty sure I saw a
highlight of their their inner squad, and he hit a knee.
He got a take down on a shot. Maybe he
felt comfortable enough to, you know, hit a knee on

(52:51):
a guy that is basically his partner. But yeah, the
man hit a knee.

Speaker 3 (52:56):
Happened to see him open up. I like that, Yeah,
score more than three points, and that.

Speaker 1 (53:03):
You're gonna need to You're gonna need to hit a
knee if you're gonna beat any of these guys.

Speaker 5 (53:07):
This is I mean, yeah, yeah, that's I mean that's
a great, great lineup there, Schultz, Taylor, Trumbull, Corey Day, Dayton, Pitzer,
Luke Loffman. There's some talent there that's gonna be a
good way to watch.

Speaker 1 (53:20):
There's listen the footwork. Heavyweight is here to stay. And
if you're not moving your feet, you're in trouble. So
feet don't eat around these parts, so you you better
get moving, hit a knee, have some sort of snatch single.
Get the footwork going, because these heavyweights have the footwork

(53:44):
of defensive linemen now where they can they can move
across the mat and they have body control as well
as strength. So if you're an aspiring heavyweight these days,
get get the ladder out, start doing some of agility
drills and then because you're gonna need it, you were
certainly gonna need it.

Speaker 5 (54:06):
Yeah, just some highlights of a feldman like that guy
has it. He is a sweet sweep single.

Speaker 4 (54:13):
He's he's a large gentleman now too.

Speaker 3 (54:15):
He put on Gary and Kruz times three with that
sweet just wider, didn't get any more neck, just wider.
You hit on Gadiali.

Speaker 5 (54:27):
Now that kind of looking at that first day of
the event, U n C State and Campbell have a duel.
So there's gonna be some some really good matchups there. Camacho,
Anthony Moulten, that'll be good, Isaac Trumbull, Tay Gatti Ali
will be really good. That'll be a great test for
both of them. Should not be by Hopkins.

Speaker 1 (54:46):
I didn't look, do we get is there more Lockehaven
versus NC State again this year? Uh?

Speaker 3 (54:54):
They do not duel this year?

Speaker 4 (54:55):
Now, I wasn't sure.

Speaker 3 (54:57):
Just probably good from competing its each other.

Speaker 1 (55:00):
That that got Austin and I were Yeah, Austin and
I were were calling I think the last time.

Speaker 4 (55:08):
They they were there. Yeah, and it.

Speaker 1 (55:13):
There, there was some there were some punches thrown, there
was some arguing. I think that was like the first
time that they had faced off since Noto had transferred.

Speaker 4 (55:24):
That was that was not last year, but two years ago.

Speaker 1 (55:29):
Yeah, And and they were certainly fired up for that one,
and it got.

Speaker 4 (55:35):
Chippy very early.

Speaker 1 (55:37):
And so I was wondering if they matched up again
or if they gave them a break this year, because
that's that's a hell of a way to get a
season started with a duel.

Speaker 4 (55:46):
Meet like that.

Speaker 5 (55:47):
Yeah, matchup too, I'd love to see and no doubt,
I guess.

Speaker 1 (55:54):
I mean now, it wouldn't be it'd be awesome if
if if ARENI was still down at thirty.

Speaker 3 (55:59):
Three, if he shaved that mustache, he might lose like
a gram.

Speaker 4 (56:04):
I haven't seen it yet. I haven't seen it. I didn't.

Speaker 1 (56:06):
I didn't take notice of Hallerini looks in a mustache yet.

Speaker 3 (56:10):
I love Kai.

Speaker 5 (56:11):
He's a great guy, really interesting, fantastic artist, really fun
to talk too.

Speaker 1 (56:16):
I hope he becomes a really good tattoo artist because
I love for I'd like for him to tattoo me.

Speaker 5 (56:21):
I already offered to do an interview with him while
he gives me a tattoo that's on the table.

Speaker 4 (56:25):
I could not do it. I could not. I couldn't
do it.

Speaker 3 (56:29):
Oh man, up, it doesn't hurt that bad. You'd be
all right.

Speaker 1 (56:31):
Yeah, man, I'll tell you what I've.

Speaker 3 (56:37):
I was.

Speaker 4 (56:38):
I used to get a little tattoos.

Speaker 1 (56:39):
So I used to get tattooed every single year from
the time I was fourteen to the time that I
was twenty two.

Speaker 3 (56:46):
Just get a check mark.

Speaker 4 (56:47):
Every year I would get a different tattoo. I was
getting a different tattoo every.

Speaker 1 (56:50):
Single year for those years, and then I didn't get
another one and again until I was thirty five, thirty four,
I think it was, and I decided to get my
entire back tattooed. I had yet I had forgotten how
bad it hurts. That was brutal. So I could not

(57:11):
imagine doing a interview while getting tattooed. I don't even
want to talk. I put my headphones on, I chew
a ton of gum, and I put a stress ball
in my hand, and I just like try and zone
out as much as possible. I could not imagine getting
tattooed and doing an interview astins like. I couldn't even

(57:31):
imagine getting tattooed.

Speaker 5 (57:33):
One of those one of those weird guys that likes
the feeling. I guess, so I'm good with it. I would,
I would happily do it. But he's a fantastic artist too,
so I would be up for that.

Speaker 4 (57:45):
I could not do it. I could not do it.

Speaker 5 (57:47):
Fun fact, first date, I used the term date very loosely.
My wife and I had was getting tattooed together, so.

Speaker 3 (57:55):
It's kind of how we roll go.

Speaker 4 (57:58):
No, I'm couldn't do it.

Speaker 1 (58:01):
That that would be something that would be that'd be
an awesome piece of content though, sitting doing a video
doing it doing a.

Speaker 3 (58:07):
Video sid mustache.

Speaker 1 (58:10):
There you go, guy, you shave your mustache. You can
tattoo Kevin. Excuse me, you can tattoo Robbie. Yeah, Kevin.
Kevin would need a Sergio Lemley tattoo similar to the
one that you ever see the Stebo tattoo where he's
got himself on his back and he's doing that. That's
what Kevin needs on his back of Sergio Lemley doing

(58:30):
a double thumbs up in a Michigan singlet.

Speaker 3 (58:33):
That's fantastic.

Speaker 5 (58:34):
I think we make the bet that if he wins,
that has to happen.

Speaker 3 (58:39):
That's the rule.

Speaker 1 (58:41):
He has to get some some sort of Sergio Lemley
tattoo if he wins NCAA's.

Speaker 5 (58:46):
Even if he's an All American, if he makes the tournament,
if he wins four matches this year and.

Speaker 1 (58:52):
He's not and he's not here to say no, so
that that's the deal.

Speaker 3 (58:55):
Yeah, that's how it works. We just we just.

Speaker 1 (58:58):
We just said yes for him, We voted and you lost.
So that's kind of how that it's gonna work. But no, uh,
glad to have wrestling back Austin is gonna let you
go take some meds and get some sleep. You'll probably
be asleep on the floor with your son in an
awkward position as soon as you take some Nike.

Speaker 3 (59:15):
Will that's a good assumption.

Speaker 1 (59:17):
Yeah, but no, I'm like I said, Glad wrestling's back.

Speaker 4 (59:24):
We're we're making some bets.

Speaker 1 (59:26):
Maybe maybe next week we'll get back to uh, which
school or which lineup resembles what car? Because I know
we didn't do it this week. When Kevin comes back,
we'll get back in on that one. But man, it's
like I said, good to have more action back. Looking
forward to this weekend as always, love talking with you gentlemen.
