Speaker 1 (00:11):
Happy Sunday morning, everybody, and welcome to a brand new
episode of content here on the soon to be John
Roca Channel. That is absolutely what we are going to
become starting next week. I'm probably going to have a
blowout somenight this week, maybe Tuesday Wednesday as a final
goodbye to the Outlaw Nation, and then officially the next

(00:33):
day we will become the John Roka Channel. That is
the plan for this week. So thank you all so much.
And what you saw for the thumbnail on this video,
The Truth. That's the new show that I'm going to
be doing, just me solo, maybe occasional guests and what
have you. But I've wanted to do a show called
The Truth for quite some time. A lot of people
try to talk me out a bit. A lot of
people are like, you know what, no, because you're saying

(00:55):
it's the truth, and I'm like.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Yeah, that's right.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
I want to put my balls on the line and
say this is what I think is the truth. Right,
That's what I think is the truth, and that's what
the show is going to be focusing on. And today
I couldn't think of a better way to soft launch
this show because we don't have graphics yet we don't
have a full on opening video yet, which is coming.
But I thought a good way this was a perfect

(01:18):
episode to start to soft launch The Truth with John Roka.
That is going to be my show. It might be daily,
might be every few days, whatever. It's kind of like
The Nation and these other the Outlawation show in the past.
It'll be The Truth and we'll tackle everything that I
want to talk about, everything that I want to talk
about on the show. And another reason that we are
changing over to the John Roka Channel is because I

(01:40):
want it to be the John Roka Channel, which means
whatever the hell I want to talk about, I'm going
to talk about on my channel. Damn the algorithms, damn
all that other stuff. I'm going to talk about what
I want to talk about on the show. And a
great way to do that for me is to create
a show like The Truth, where I will dive into
whatever topics I want to talk about. Of course, the
thumbnail today is letting you know that I'm going to

(02:01):
be talking about the Superman review in Bargo, breaks that
have happened.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
I have not seen the movie.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
I'm going tomorrow night, so you will have my out
of theater reaction tomorrow night and review subsequently after and
of course, you know, the geek buddies and I will
probably be doing a live review of it once they
get a chance to see it, which I think they're
going Tuesday night, so we may do. We may line
up a review for this weekend, a spoiler review for
this weekend, and a non spoiler review for later on
in the week on the on the on that show.

(02:28):
But that is the thing that I'm going to be
talking about today. I'm going to jump in the Jurassic
World box office as well, and a couple of other
stories that are roaming around in the in the pop
culture zeitgeist.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
But of course we have.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
To start with some hard news today, some sad news today.
I don't know if you guys are monitoring, I don't
know where you are are all are in the world,
but if you're monitoring the sad news coming out of
Texas and how many young lives and people adult lives
have perished in the flooding there. It's sixty plus now

(03:04):
and the numbers keep rising, including a lot of young
girls who are at a Christian camp there in Cobb
County or Cerrn County, there in Texas. I was catching
up on some of it before I started doing the
show this morning, and just heartbrokings broken. So you know,
you hear the report to hear the news. I think
there are questions to be asked. I think there's the

(03:27):
truth to find out about what happened there. But right now,
I think it's about finding these bodies, finding anybody who
might still be alive, any survivors, and of course if
you can donate and send in any kind of assistance
and help these people deal with what is going on
there in Texas, then I think there are a number

(03:47):
of hotlines and number of websites that you can go to.
Maybe when the show is done, I will put them
in the description video in descriptions of the video rather
and you guys can click on that and send some support.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Devastating news.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
You know, you hate to hear about young children dying,
and in a way that is just terrible with.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
These floods, and.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
You know, people are already starting to ask questions about who.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Was alerted when, why wasn't there more alerts?

Speaker 1 (04:16):
And I totally understand that that's coming from a place
of grief and anger and frustration, and so you hope
that the answers get found out here, and you hope
that there isn't double talk and bullshit and goalpost moving
from the people in charge.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
But we know already, and we've.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Seen already, if you've seen these press conferences over the
last couple of days, that there's a lot of blaming
of other administrations, blaming of supposedly outdated technology, which is
all trying to shift the blame away from the colossal
mistakes that might have happened here in terms of cutting
the funding. I have not researched the issue deeply enough

(04:53):
to be able to speak on it quite knowledgeably fully,
but from what I've seen and what I've read and
heard recently, there are a lot of questions to be
asked about whether this slashing and funding affected them, the
people down there being able to notify people in time,
and did people remember because some people have seen I've
seen some officials say that maybe people did not remember

(05:16):
that these young girls were at that camp in that
area and were in danger. So there are questions to
be asked here. But the number one thing is to
send our love, our thoughts and prayers, our strength, and
if any of you can donate to any of the
services they've been set up to help these families deal
with the losses not only of their family members or

(05:39):
people that they love, but also their houses and all
the stuff that's going on there. So just sending all
our love to Texas as they deal with that, and
of course also sending love to the Liverpool family. Me
as a massive, massive Liverpool supporter. The loss of Diogo
Jota unforced him and his brother Andre and the cart

(06:00):
that happened a few days ago. The funeral I think
was yesterday or today. I think it was yesterday, and
you know a lot of Liverpool players showing up and
it's great to see so many of the current competitions
that are happening in the Club World Cup and also
in other areas and MLS people putting the twenty sign
up as a symbol of love to Jyoga because that

(06:21):
was his number, and you know, just expressing deep wellness
of sympathy and affection for and condolences for the loss
of an incredibly young player who had just gotten married
two weeks before his death. He had been with his
partner for thirteen years. They had three beautiful children, and
of course I loved him as a player and loved

(06:41):
his incredible goals Tottenham game, the Everton game, so many
games where he came through for us and the Poacher.
He was amazing. And of course my lady Outlaw and I,
who are massive Liverpool fans, we were devastated by the
news and heartbroke, and so sending love out to his
family as well, and thank you in some small way,
thank you from my end of the world to all

(07:01):
the football and community who've been giving love, both fans
and players and pundits to Diego Jolta and his family.
So just sending that out. Okay, So I just wanted
to get that out of the way before we jump
into the big topics. I love you all so much.
We have almost three hundred people joining me live, which
is amazing. I hope your July fourth weekend is going well.
I know some of you are maybe not feeling like celebrating,

(07:24):
and I think that's totally fair, and some of you
are celebrating, which I think is totally fair. It's a
free country for now, we're allowed to celebrate as we
see fit and so and not celebrate as we see
fit and both sides. That should be respected on both
sides to a degree, So just putting that out there.
So I hope you're enjoying your July fourth weekend. Thanks

(07:45):
for hanging out with me. And you know, July fourth
means fireworks, and oh boy, did we have fireworks over
the last few days. I'm going to get into it
here in just a second. Just want to remind you
all that stream Labs and super chats are open if
you want to send some love, you want to send
your questions, thoughts and comments and all the stuff we're
gonna be talking about on the show today.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
I have no idea how long we're going.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
To go on the show today, but if you want
to send support here to the channel, you can do
so through the through the super chats, and through the
stream Labs address, which is pinned in the chats. And
I'm gonna put it well, actually it's not pinned in
the chat just yet. I'm gonna put it in the description,
or it's in the description rather, but I'm gonna pin
in the chat here right now because I was doing

(08:26):
a bunch of stuff, trying to get things squared away
before we start our show, and I forgot to pin
that there on the on the chat. So all right, anyway,
so let's let's get into it. I've done enough precursor.
We're eight a half minutes into the show, so let's
do this thing. All right. So Superman is coming out
on July eleventh, that you were just a few days away,

(08:47):
if you can believe it, five days away from this
thing coming out. As I said, I'm going to see
it tomorrow night. Well, the reason there were so many
fireworks of the last few days is because The Daily
Beast inadvertently published it's review just a couple of days ago,
and the site took it down pretty fast, but not
before it was up long enough to cause a stir

(09:08):
amongst fans on social media. The critic, who we will
not name here, this particular critic because they weren't the
one that put it up. The editor put it up
mistakenly and then immediately took it down, or maybe not
mistakenly if you've got your tinfoil hat on pretty securely
on your head. But this critic has a history of
writing for publications like Varieting Esquire Magazine, so this isn't

(09:29):
a run of the meal critic.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
They are also not a superhero hater.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
They wrote positive reviews for Guardians of the Galaxy, Volyan three,
Spider Man, Across the Spider Verse, and recently Thunderbolts. But
in this review and they broke the review in Bargo.
So I will read some of the stuff. I'm not
going to read all the spoilers. I'm just going to
read the overall general stuff that they said about the movie.
The review begins by saying the reboot resembles a Saturday

(09:53):
Morning cartoon that's overstuffed. The film is a wash and
over the top CGI insanity. David cornsho it comes across
as relatively slight, and that the reviewer felt that the
movie asks audiences to quote hold on for dear life
as it whiplashes about from one out of this world
locale an incident to another, and that he this critic

(10:16):
felt that non fans might find themselves quote adrift due
to the endless geekiness, with Jim gunn'script accused of only
quote feigning interest in actual emotion. So there's are very
very strong words for a review. And to follow up
with that review, Peter de Bruges over at Variety in

(10:38):
reviewing Heads of State, the new film that's out with
John Cena and Idris Elba and Priyanka Chopra on Hulu.
I think Hulu or Prime Sorry. Prime Video mentioned in
his review of Heads of State that it is quote
a lot more entertaining than this. You could be forgiven
for writing off Heads of State, but then you would
miss a movie that's no sillier than Superman and a

(11:00):
lot more entertaining, a comparison worth making since both adhere
to a mythical sense of heroism. Now the review Variety
has re edited the review to say, instead of Superman,
Big Studio Superhero fair So that was a big thing
that exploded over the weekend. And then to counter those reviews,

(11:22):
one critic, Mike Ryan at Uprocks pushed back on Blue
Sky and said, I'm going to get in trouble for this,
but that quote leaked review already adding a gasoline to
the flames there, that it was on purpose, leaked on purpose.
Good God, I couldn't disagree more with that review. Seems
I'm already in enough trouble, which I think is utter bullshit.

(11:42):
But whatever this mystery movie is, it's the happiest I've
walked out of a movie since Top Gun.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
Maverick again, I will never reveal the movie.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
I'm talking about a yuk yuk yak q q cute
U nyuk. And someone responded that it was super of
him to release the review, and he was. And he
responded to the thumbs up or a fire emoji or
something nerdy, trying to be nerdy cool and being nerdy,
being much of a dweeb.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
So here's the thing that I come back to.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
I think it's terrible that these the reviews have come out, right,
I think it's unfair to the movie to have these
reviews and people dump this stuff out there to get
ahead of other people. Now, the Daily Beast thing could
have been a mistake. Editors sometimes will do that, and
that's not on the critic. The critic writes the review,

(12:31):
the critics submits the review to the editor. The critic
does not control the website. That's someone else. Those are
website people. It might not even been the editor. It
might have been somebody working at the website who just
uploaded it and accidentally put timed it incorrectly to come out,
and when the explosion happened on social media, they were
made aware of it and took it down.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
So that is not on the critic.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
I want to make it very very clear that no
one should be coming after the critic for quote unquote
release the reviews. That's inappropriate to go that because it's
editors who do all that and are in charge of that,
and they're supposed to be the barrier between stuff like
this happening. Any editor worth their assault will tell you that.

(13:13):
Anybody who runs a website that has articles or columns
or reviews on it will tell you that they are
in control of when they put it up. It doesn't
mean that they can't build. For example, if it's a
WordPress site, they can't build the article to drop and
be ready to drop when they hit go. Clearly that's
what was done here. The article was and then someone

(13:34):
accidentally hit send on it.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Or if you, like I said, if you've got.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
Your conspiracy hat on very tight, you think that the
Daily Beast did this on purpose? And I saw, wait,
can I bring up that tweet here? I want to
bring up this tweet? And I saw a tweet or
post whatever people want to say nowadays, because they are
you know, they want to be super anal about it.

(14:00):
Here we go. I saw the co owner and managing
editor of Discussing Film, Andrew J. Salazar, What did? He
said something yesterday? And I almost posted it because I
thought it was a kind of a hypocritical thing to say, oh,
here we go, Yes, all right, so I'm gonna bring

(14:20):
this this up. Let me, I haven't say, I don't
know if the yeah, there we go. Can you see that?
All right? Let me make it bigger. Sorry, guys, let
me make it bigger. Zoom in's zoom in, zoom in,
zoom in. Okay, So, Andrew Salazar said, Daily Beast reviews
are always trash. Wonder if this is going to lead

(14:41):
to some actual repercussions while other outlets have been seemingly
shadow banded from seeing the movie before the embargo, and
someone he was responding to someone who said the Daily
Beast is in trouble. So, first of all, Discussing Film
built its empire aggregating other peopleeople's work. So to me,

(15:02):
calling the Daily Beast one of the few publications that's
still calling out Trump's bs on the daily and really
anyone's bs on the daily entertainment in the world of
entertainment or outside the world of entertainment, calling their reviews trash,
I think is an asshole thing to say and a
dick thing to say, especially when you've built your site
taking other people's work and using it as your own

(15:26):
to build this out. So that's kind of trash behavior
in my opinion. So calm the fuck down and get
back in your corner. And this other thing of calling ful.
But this other point he made about studios should be
punishing these critics. Here's the reality of the situation. And
some of these critics won't tell you this. Some of
these punnits won't tell you this, But here's the realities.

(15:47):
And some of these publicists and studios won't tell you this.
But most of these studios, if your reach is big enough,
they are not going to ban you, no matter what
you do, no matter if you break embargo, matter if
you revealed details ahead of time, no matter what, they're
not going to ban you. Right, there's a certain situation

(16:07):
thing that happens, and if your reach is big enough,
or if you know the right people, like if you're
starting out and you know the right people and you
are hooked up with the publicists, you can go like, oh,
I'm sorry, I made a mistake, My apologies, blah, blah blah.
I misunderstood it. I got in trouble once early in
my career for posting a review I think two days
earlier or whatever, early in my solo career after i'd

(16:30):
left Collider, like a year or two after, I did
a review, and the publicist here in San Diego made
me aware of it, and I made the mistake, right,
And so you know that you pay attention to the embargoes.
It gets kind of murky with the social media reactions.
When I do my reactions out of theater, A lot
of people think that social media, and I don't think

(16:50):
it's social media. I think it's just an out of
theater reaction, but I understand how they might see it
as social media.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
Anyway, these things.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
Happen, Okay, So now you're calling for repercussions on the critic.
But here's the truth. It won't happen. Variety's critics ruined
Eternals on the night of the premiere. They revealed some
Easter eggs or some spoilers from the movie. I was
there at the premiere for Eternals with my fellow geek buddy,

(17:17):
Michael Bogel, and I was there when they posted their
thoughts on the sites, and it exploded at the after party,
exploded in a number of places, and we were all
buzzing about it. And that was the first time that
I saw that there is no real repercussion from the
studios for this kind of stuff. If your reach is

(17:38):
big enough, if your publication is big enough. And certainly
they're not going to ban a Penske media critic from
coming back to review their films because Penske owns Hollyood, Reporter, Variety,
all these places. Now it might not be the same critic,
but they're not going to ban the site itself, right,

(18:00):
So I don't sink. I don't, And there's certainly not
going to ban The Daily Beast for fuck's sake, which
is a very big site, no matter what Andrew Salas
are and other people who feel the way he does
about the situation feel it's not going to happen, all right,
That's just not going to happen.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
So but I get the frustration, right, I understand it.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
And I don't know why Andrew tries to play himself
like he's like he's a small creator, Like they have
almost a million, if not a million followers on YouTube.
You're not a small creator anymore. If you have a
million or almost a million followers anywhere on social media, YouTube, x, Instagram, wherever,
you're not a small content creator. You're not. I don't

(18:40):
care how much you try to play like you are.
You're not. You're one of the big boys. And so
there's a different level of responsibility there from the studio.
So when you look at the situation here, you go, Okay,
who should be punished. Well, here's the reality of the world.
And some of you know this from your own experiences
in your life. Some of you know this from other situations,
like if you're not big enough, they're going to punish you. Right,

(19:05):
not to make a sports reference to not to veer
into sports too far, but like we're seeing that happen
in the Premier League, Manchester City one hundred and fifteen
counts against them for financial issues. They're not going to
fucking be punished anything. Meanwhile, Everton gets punished or smaller
clubs get punished, loose points and whatever. That's kind of
how it was, how unfortunate. That's how the world works.

(19:25):
The people in power take care of the other people
in power even when they mess up, because they have
a codependent relationship. The movies need Penske Media's massive reach
in all its different iterations in order to promote their movies.
Do their puff pieces put their stuff out there? So

(19:46):
that's the truth, that's the reality. Someone like me, if
I broke in Bargo, I might get in trouble. If
I lived in LA, I might not get in trouble
living in San Diego. But I don't want to take
that chance, nor do I want to do that because
I think it's unfair to the fans to break that
kind of stuff. But this is a cutthroat business, and
LA is getting more and more cutthroat. There's less and

(20:07):
less opportunities to be a pundit, a reviewer, a critic,
and people are crossing lines all the time now, and
people are doing things that they normally wouldn't do because
they need to get attention. And as we've seen from
the President on down breaking the rules, there are millions
of people who are quite happy to support you if

(20:28):
you break the rules, if you go the asshole route
or if you go the jerk route and violate certain things.
Now again, i'm not saying the Daily Beast did this.
I'm not saying a Variety did this. Although you do
have editors who look over your stuff, they're supposed to
look over your stuff. So I blame the editors in
both situations. I don't blame the critics because it's their job.

(20:49):
So if you're going to be mad at an editor,
or are going to be mad at people who did this,
you have to look at the editors, the managing editors,
and then the editors below them who approve this coming out.
The Mike Ryan situation is curious to me from up Rocks,
because let's bring it up again.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
Let's bring this up again. I want to bring what
he said up again.

Speaker 1 (21:12):
Here we go. So I'm going to get in trouble
for this. But that quote leaked review. Good God, I
couldn't disagree more Like, look, I think Mike's got to write.
I don't know Mike, and I don't think I've ever
met Mike. He's got a right to express his opinion
on the movie. However, he is also breaking the embargo,
and he's breaking it in a way that makes himself
feel It looks like John Snow at the Battle of

(21:34):
the Bastards, right, He's standing there with his.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
Sword and he's like, I might get in trouble for this.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
It seems I'm already in enough trouble for God's sakes,
the self the thing I'm gonna say this, the self
askissing of some critics drives me out of my fucking mind. Okay,
WB is not going to come after you for breaking
the embargo to defend a movie that they are basing

(22:00):
an entire universe on, and that has been unfairly criticized,
unfair because it was because the review was broke, was broken,
or embargo was broken, not because the reviews were unfair,
but unfairly subject to some negative reactions. I guess negative
publicity because of these two critics breaking the embargo, or
the editors rather breaking the embargo, but Mike taking it

(22:23):
upon himself to fight the good fight. And I couldn't disagree.
And I'm going to get in trouble for the seems
I'm in enough trouble. Nonsense, Utter fucking nonsense. I've dealt
with studios and publicists for ten years. They will slap
you on the wrist, maybe lightly, if you break the
embargo in a positive way to say positive things, to

(22:43):
fight for their movie, to promote their movie. They will
not come after you. If you're positive, right, they'll come
after you more if you're negative, because you're affecting the money,
and you're affecting how many people will go see you
might be affecting how many people will go see the movie. Now.

Speaker 2 (22:59):
I know there are movies they're a review proof.

Speaker 1 (23:01):
I get that, but there are certain films, and certainly
a film like Superman, which is getting so much outside
noise around it affecting how people will see this film.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
Certainly a film like.

Speaker 1 (23:11):
That is super important to make sure it has a
good rollout, achieves the highest possible box office it can
achievement its first week out of the first weekend out
of the gate, especially with Fantastic Four coming around, and
especially with what we're going to get to here in
just a second, the Jurassic.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
World Rebirth.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
Monster box office that have just had for its opening weekend.
You see that that is something they're worried of it.
But you know why, because publicist jobs depend on getting
this out in the best way possible and getting the
right people who are going to be invited to see
these films, and an there's an understanding that they're not
going to break these embargo, so it becomes a situation

(23:52):
of who are they going to blame. Yes, you can
blame the editors or whatever, but the studio is also
going to be mad at the publicists who weren't who
they are, who they might believe, weren't firm enough in
telling these critics to not reveal this stuff. So I
think that's what you're dealing with here. So I think
the fact that they took the review down, the fact

(24:13):
that they amended the language on Variety and on Daily Beast, respectively,
I think that's a good reaction. We took it down,
we amended language. Mike coming in with his whole like
I'm the hero of the story crap I thought was
off base, and not because he's defending the movie. I

(24:34):
think every right's got everybody's got a right to feel
the way they feel about the movie. I will tell you,
but I think that they accidentally violated the embargo. Mike
is covering himself by saying, you know, leaked review, right.
He puts it in quotation marks on purpose, and that's all.
It's to say that he doesn't believe the review was linked,

(24:56):
because it gives him now a reason to break his
break the embargo. In defense of the movie. If I
believe you have violated the embargo to bash a film
that I liked, well, I am going to break the
embargo to praise a film to counter your bashing.

Speaker 2 (25:16):
That's the logic here.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
And he has no evidence zero that Variety or Daily
Beast did this on purpose, but he asked to create
the belief in order to curry favor with the fans
some of the conspiracy Superman fans that this was dropped
on purpose to destroy the film, because there is this
belief amongst some of the fandom, and it's you know,

(25:41):
the people want to get mad all they want.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
I don't care.

Speaker 1 (25:44):
There is a tribalistic approach to everything in the world
of fandom now, just like there is in the world itself.
And so there are people who are going to defend
this movie no matter what's on it, what's in it, rather,
and there are people who are gonna hate this movie
no matter what's in it. Right, you see that both
sides are gearing up, and some people have accused me

(26:04):
of going in already wanting to hit it. I don't.
I want to love it. I want to enjoy it.
I want to have a great time. I like David
corn sweat everything I've seen. If you watch my trailer reactions,
I'm super positive on most of the footage that we got. Yes,
the crypto stuff, Yes, the droids a little bit bothered me,
But overall I like the energy of the movie, and
the most recent trailer I really enjoyed. So I have

(26:26):
been positive where I felt I was honestly positive, and
negative where I felt it was honestly negative on it.
So I'm going in with an open mind hopefully enjoy
it tomorrow night. But there are people invested on both
sides in the fandom to tear it apart or to
love it excessively. Where it gets kind of muddy is

(26:50):
when you start to put that on legitimate critics. Right,
Peter Trebrew's not a guy who started out on YouTube
and then built a following and then got into critics scroups. Right.
He's a guy who worked his way through the system
and became a review the reviewer for Daily Beasts. Same
thing as the person who worked their way through the
system and got into positions and whose work was respected
enough to be reviewed to be in a position to

(27:15):
review films for big publications. And that's where the difference lies,
I think, and those people are legitimate reviewers who are
looking at this stuff and breaking it down and giving
you their honest two cents. And I think and I
don't believe that they are involved in some maddening conspiracy
to sink the movie. I don't think that's it at all,
And nor is it some kind of thing of like, well,

(27:36):
you know these critics, they hate superhero movies. We shouldn't
listen to them. And you know, that's just utter nonsense.
It's fabricated narratives by people who are taking advantage of
that in order to build up their following and build
up their points of views. And they speak for the fans,
they fight for the common man, the regular folk, the
little guy.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
It's all crap.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
It's all nonsense and narratives that people use to promote themselves, right,
And so you see that in what's going on here
in my opinion, and I just feel I feel like
it's shitty all around. You know, it's a mistake on
Daily Beasts and Variety side. If it's not a mistake,
then I think that should be exposed. I think that

(28:19):
should be talked about. If there's emails, if there's text,
messages if there's evidence that they were intentionally dropping these reviews,
because I don't care what your.

Speaker 2 (28:28):
Gut tells you.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
If there's no evidence to support this, then you really
can't run off half cocked and claim all this stuff
when you have no evidence. And if you want to
cherry pick the history of Daily Beast or cherry pick
the as Andrew Salasar or cherry picked the history of Variety,
then that's your prerogative. But you're also cherry picking, which
means you're ignoring other things that would counter your argument

(28:52):
or your point of view, or your belief that this
was intentional, whereas Mike Ryan's is flat out intentional and
he is doing this to defend the movie. And so
that concerns me because Mike is a guy I've read
for years on up Rocks, and why is he coming
out to defend the movie and why is he casting
aspersions on The Daily Beast and Variety In essence by

(29:16):
saying leaked review in quotation marks, that implies that you
believe Mike Ryan at Uprocks that these two publications drop
this stuff on purpose. And he might be saying one
leaked review, so he might specifically be talking about Daily Beasts,
but you have to lump in variety since that happened
there as well. Now, I think Jeffrey tweeted a Daily

(29:36):
Mail review and I wonder if that's the same review
a Daily Beast, so that is the same review that
jeff retweeted. So and I saw some people come back
and my brother Robert Meier Burnett was super upset about that,
which I totally understand, and what have you. So the
thing is, and this is the second part of the conversation,
is this is a window into what is going to
happen this week. And I hope you all are ready.

(29:59):
I do think we are.

Speaker 2 (30:00):
Going to get mixed reviews.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
And I'll tell you this right now because I heard
from three critics over the weekend who watched that cut
a clipout that I did of Jeff and I from
discussing whether critics are becoming influencers, and by that I
mean critics who are in critics groups becoming influencers for
Superman and questioning whether that is where the trend is

(30:24):
now because these people have money to make salaries, to
pay housing mortgages, to pay lifestyles, to upkeep this kind
of thing, and so they want to keep making their money,
and there's look nothing wrong with that.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
This is America.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
You can build your business as you see fit. It
doesn't mean you're immune to criticism, but you can certainly
build your business as you see fit and make your
money as you see fit. But three separate critics reached
out to me and told me that they did not
like the movie. And three critics that I am friends
with and that I respect and whose opinions I value,

(31:05):
and like every critic. You're going to have people who
people who like their reviews and don't like their reviews,
but they're people I trust, not YouTubers. Okay, these are
people who are legitimate critics, and not that YouTube people
aren't legitimate because I'm a YouTube person. I do I'm
saying that, but I'm saying these are people are at publications,
I guess, is what I'm trying to say, or have

(31:27):
followings where they have done reviews in big platforms, on
big platforms, and they told me that the movie is
a mess. Essentially, that was the three. So that's what
I hear, But I myself am still going in open minded.
I am still going in to see it because people

(31:47):
like Mike Ryan, whose opinions I've also respected over the
years are saying it's good and they loved it, and
it's to make connecting the top Gun Maverick.

Speaker 2 (31:56):
That gets me excited.

Speaker 1 (31:58):
So I think we're going to get mixed reviews. I
think we're going to get a mixed reaction. The fact
that Jeff and other places are reporting that the early
sales tracking is slowing down and that now we're looking
at one hundred million dollar opening for this movie.

Speaker 2 (32:16):
I think that's scary.

Speaker 1 (32:18):
So these in terms of for the studio, and I
think WB is freaking out. I think that's the reason
they didn't come to Comic Con. I now more than ever,
I believe that. And you can claim that I've got
my tinfoil hat on my head, and that's totally fair.
I am not devoid of criticism. You can criticize me
for that, but I have to believe that that's the reason.
If they knew they had an incredible product that was

(32:41):
going to be universally beloved, I think they would want
to do a victory lap at Comic Con and the
biggest auditorium possible. But I think they sensed that this
film is not going to be received overwhelmingly like one
hundred ninety five percent positive, and so they have concerns
and they didn't want to get a panel and then

(33:02):
pull out of the panel after the reviews came out,
or if the if it underperformed at the box office.
So I'm gonna be really curious to see because I'm
someone who read who's read comic books for decades. I
know Silver Aged Superman, I know the approach that James
Gunn is going for. I understand what the vibe and

(33:28):
energy of the film is supposed to be. And James
Gunn has an incredible track record with superhero movies. Like
someone put down all the Rotten Tomatoes scores of all
the superhero movies. It's it's a pretty impressive resume, right,
So you have to lean towards he's gonna nail this
thing just from history. History tells us he's gonna nail

(33:50):
this thing. But you know, I have to also put
in perspective that I've heard from people that I trust
and seeing these reviews, that some of these critics think
the film is a mess. So I wonder if when
the film comes out, how deeply toxic the battles are
going to be this is what I'm dreading. You know,

(34:12):
I don't mind confrontation. You guys know that about me.
I don't mind the battles back and forth and whatever.
To me, it's fun. It's like, you know, some people go, oh,
he gets triggered, he gets Honestly, I'm sitting on my
couch watching a show while I'm going back and forth,
like it's not a big deal to me. It's just
like it's like breathing air to me, to go back
and forth with people. It's not a big deal. But

(34:32):
I know what this kind of toxicity does to the fandom.
We saw it after the Last Jedi, we saw it
with Justice League. We saw it with the Zack Snyder Verse,
and I tweeted out yesterday I'm not a restored the
Snyder Verse person. That is not who I am. I
love Ban of Steel, I hated BBS. I like that
he got a chance to finish his Justice League, which
I enjoyed for the most part. But I'm not a

(34:54):
person who wants to bring it back. I'm a person
who wants to have a good Superman movie that we
all can enjoy. And so this is where I'm at
on this whole thing. And I'm really worried at a
time when we're so fractured as a world, not just
as a country, as a world, this film has been

(35:16):
propped up to be this film that's going to bring
us back to the best of Superman and Superman that
we really need. I've seen a few pundits say that
we need this Superman, and if it doesn't hit the mark,
there might be a lot of disappointed, upset, angry people
because other people, other pundits that they watch or listen to,

(35:39):
have propped this film up to this level and created
a bar that this film has to get a leap
over in order to be beloved and accepted and appreciated
by the fandom. And I think that's at my work
in detriment to the move because it's it's just a movie,

(36:03):
and so you just want to see if it's good,
that's all it is. But I think people have created
a whole cottage industry around this Superman film to say, like,
this has to be the greatest thing ever. It's launching
the new DC franchise. They're going to get it right
this time, and James Gunn is going to do this.
And I do think James Gunn bears a certain amount

(36:23):
of blame for coming out with like all these massive
plans instead of saying, look, we're going to do Superman
where we've got plans for the future, of course, but
we want to focus on this movie and see where
we go and then see how the fans respond to it,
and then we'll see what we're doing next. But he
had all these massive plans, and so there's expectations, and
you can't set expectations and then complain about people being

(36:47):
upset that you didn't meet their expectations. That's not how
it fucking works. You know, life is not built that way.
If you set an expectation, people are going to expect
you to meet that expectation, and we don't. When you
don't meet that expectation, they are going to come after you.
And that's the game. That's the way life is. Always
in anything, that's the way life is. You lose your

(37:08):
jobs in life if you are expected to do this.
If you come in with a strong resume and you
say I'm going to be able to do this and
this and this, and you don't meet those expectations, people
are gonna fire you, or pull away from you, or
not trust you, or believe in you, or believe that
you can do it. And so that's the situation I

(37:30):
think Superman is in, and it's unfortunate because I think
I like David corn Sweat from what I've seen so
far as Superman. I'm really excited to see Rachel brosn
Hand as Lois Lane. I like Nicholas Holtze Lex Luthor
so far, although they've barely given him a lot to
do except for that last trailer. I'm really upset that
we haven't seen more from mister Terrific.

Speaker 2 (37:50):
I'm a little.

Speaker 1 (37:50):
Frustrated why the black superhero has barely said any words
in any of the trailers.

Speaker 2 (37:57):
It's a little frustrated, and I'm wondering why that is.

Speaker 1 (38:00):
Or the Latina superhero is Avlamer said as Hawk Girl,
she hasn't said hardly anything. It's been much more focused
on the white characters. The white Clark Kent, the white
Lowis Lane, the white Parry or the white Lex Luthor
and even the white guy Gardner. Why aren't we seeing
Perry white? Why aren't we seeing the other characters of color?

(38:21):
So to me, this is a little frustrating when I've
seen the previews and what they're on screen. Don't get
me wrong, you see them, but why haven't we seen
more with them in the footage? And so that's one
of the biggest complaints I've had about it over the
last few weeks in the rollout.

Speaker 2 (38:36):
But that's beside the point.

Speaker 1 (38:38):
Is the movie good. That's what's important. And so we're
gonna find out. We're gonna find out if the movie
is good or not. Uh oh, God, come on, these guys.
I'm not allowed to have an opinion, Alida's I'm not
allowed to have an opinion about the things that I'm seeing,

(38:58):
Like are you are you children or are you adults? Like?
I mean, you can handle a little bit of observation
and analysis, for God's sake. Try to relax, people, Try
to I spent forty minutes talking about everything around the reviews, okay,
and I'm gonna and I'm also gonna throw that in
there because I noticed that. And those are the things
that you see happening lately. So if it bothers you,

(39:19):
if your panties are in a twist, if your knickers
are in a bunch, if you're snowflaking the fuck out
of a little bit of commentary over race. Then get
the fuck out of the stream. Get the fuck out
of my live stream. I don't need you here, Pat buddy,
I don't beg for your reviews or views or sub subscription.
Get out. You know. I'm gonna give you my analysis.

(39:40):
I'm gonna give you my observation. I'm gonna give you
my truth, and if you can't handle it, get the
fuck out. I don't need you. That's how it works,
all right. So we've got, as I said, well over
six hundred people joining us.

Speaker 2 (39:53):
So thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (39:55):
On a Sunday morning for hanging out with me. Six
hundred people. What do you guys think? I only see
two oh stream lab or super chats here out of
six hundred people, only two super chats.

Speaker 2 (40:05):
I'm a little surprised by that.

Speaker 1 (40:06):
I thought for sure you guys would send some more
love here as we're doing the and you have more
ideas about what's going on with these embargo stuff. So
I want to hear what you guys think about this
and where you land on it all and what your
feelings are on Jonathan Charles has got to support my
favorite YouTuber on the soft launch of the truth. Thank
you Jonathan, my favorite movie of the year so far

(40:28):
as F one. What would you like to see in
the sequel if we get one? Keep up the great work,
John Let me swing back to that because I'm going
to talk about F one in a few minutes. And
thank you, Jonathan, very kind to send in your stream
lab there. Riah says, good morning. I love that name,
Riya dam was one of my favorite Disney animated films recently.
Good morning and happy Sunday. Hope you've had an awesome

(40:48):
holiday weekend. Always love tuning into your shows. Keep rocket
it hashtag Outlaw Nation.

Speaker 2 (40:53):
Just for a little bit, Riyah.

Speaker 1 (40:54):
But I mean we'll always be Outlaw Nation for God's sakes,
you know that. Alan Smithy says, will the restore of
the Snyderver's boycotts I have an effect on the box office?
Or will the Snyder fans go to the theater anyway
and just lie about it. I don't know, Man, to
be honest with you, I don't think the restore the
Snyderboss Snyder versus Boycott's gonna do it. It's gonna affect
the film's box office in any meaningful way. Like, yeah,

(41:16):
maybe they'll be a little bit less in certain areas,
But I don't think it'll affect it. I think it's
they're getting ridiculed mercilessly online, and so I don't think
it's going to because it's a really useless campaign to get.

Speaker 2 (41:28):
Snyder to do the Justice League.

Speaker 1 (41:29):
I think there was more validity in that, and look
a lot of things had to happen in order for
Snyder to be able to get come back and do
his do his his version of Justice League. But I
don't think this will have an effect. And will the
Snyder fans go to the theater anyway and just lie
about it? I think some will, I think others. I'm
a Snyder fan, but I'm not a Snyder verse person

(41:52):
to bring it back. But I hope I like it.
I don't know if I'm gonna like it. I don't
know if it's gonna be overstuffed to some of these
critics with their leak re user claiming.

Speaker 2 (42:01):
But I hope I like it.

Speaker 1 (42:02):
But I don't know, you know, I don't know. Oliver
thirty some forty it says, Hey, John, I left the
super chat over on the influencer critic vid. Check it
out when you get a chance. Thanks influencers, super critic VI. Okay,
all right, let me see a super chat okay, uh okay.
I don't know. I don't know what it would be

(42:25):
under man, because I have them from the last nine
days and I don't see your super chat here. So
maybe just put it in the chat and I'll read
it again and then we can I'll answer it from there.
Thank you to Cake Batter appreciate that. And thank you
to Brunson New York. I appreciate that. Shout out to Jalen.

(42:45):
Jalen Brunson there in New York, a man I doubted
before the playoffs and a man who took that team
to the brink of the NBA Finals this year.

Speaker 2 (42:52):
So shout out to Jalen.

Speaker 1 (42:54):
Good luck with Mike Brown. That is not gonna work
out for you. That is not gonna work out for
your Knicks fans. You won't even get to the Eastern
Conference finals under Mike Brown. I hate to bring it
to you because no one on your team is Lebron,
no one.

Speaker 2 (43:08):
So sorry, Terrence Apsis, keep telling them the truth. Rocca,
you had a mensh Thank you.

Speaker 1 (43:14):
I appreciate that. Terrence. And Superbash here, Superbash with a Supersticker.
Thank you, supermash. I appreciate that. So amazing stuff that's
going on now in our world. In July, I hope you.

Speaker 2 (43:27):
Guys have watched Squid Game.

Speaker 1 (43:28):
I'm two episodes away from finishing it. I'll probably have
a review up in the next couple of days. And
then I'm waiting for my lady outlaw, who's been out
of town for the last few days because she's taking
care of her sister's dogs while her sister is up
at a family function in another state.

Speaker 2 (43:45):
And so I'm missing my lady.

Speaker 1 (43:47):
I've been missing my been five days, four days without
my five days without my lady. I don't like it.
I don't like it. She's made me care about her
and I don't like being without her. So it's been
a little a little empty in the house without my lady.
But she will be back on Thursday, I think, and
then we're going to dive into The Bear, the new
season of The Bear, because she's a former chef and

(44:08):
I always love watching the show with her because she
always gives me these inside tips and inside information on
how authentic some of these scenes are and how much
they're pushing the boundaries of believability with certain It's kind
of like watching er with a with an er doctor,
you know.

Speaker 2 (44:23):
So yeah, so I haven't seen I haven't finished off those.

Speaker 1 (44:26):
I'm gonna start Sandman today probably after I'm done with
you guys, because there's only six episodes sad Man, so
I can probably finish that today. I also have the
USA going into the final for the Gold Cup today
against Mexico.

Speaker 2 (44:37):
That's going to be a barn burner.

Speaker 1 (44:39):
And I've got my hangout with my pay friends today
at five as well. So yeah, a lot of stuff
going on. Wow, So this is the kind of thing
you This is the kind of thing you get from
sad people like this. She's getting rammed by a real
man while the dogs are in the other room. So
this is the kind of stuff. So now I have
to block them and delete their comments because like, you
bust my balls all you want, but when you're saying

(45:01):
something that angry because you don't have anyone and you
can't get anyone, and you're one of these in cells
that's sitting at home with a pathetic life, and you've
got to come attack someone who's I got a very
happy relationship, is pursuing his dreams, making money and paying
his bills, pursuing his dreams. You know, I love that
you guys. I love the ones that hate me. I

(45:22):
love you guys for hating me. I really do like
I'm at this point now in my life where I
kind of love that you guys hate some of you
guys hate me because it means I'm succeeding. You know,
Kat Williams said that, right, if you've got seventeen haters,
you better wake up the next morning and try to
get eighteen. And that's the truth, because people only hate
when they're jealous of what you're doing, or they can't

(45:44):
do what you're doing, and so they have to try
to denigrate you and come after you and say the
most horrible, toxic, vile things to you because they want
your attention, and they want your attention because they don't
get any attention in real life from anybody in their lives,
and so you kind of feel I feel bad for
those people. I feel bad that because you know, I've
been in periods of my life while I've been pretty

(46:05):
upset and angry and lashing out and all of this stuff,
and it was all born from a place that I
was unhappy with my life, unhappy with how things were going,
unhappy with where my life was. I was not with
anybody all those things. And it's all from a deep
place of well of insecurity, low self esteem, anger, or

(46:27):
you're a sociopath.

Speaker 2 (46:28):
It's one of the two. It's really not anything else.

Speaker 1 (46:30):
It's nothing. You can't criticize me, of course, feel free.
But when you go to that toxic level, when you're
saying such horrible things about the lady that I love
and the woman who's been an amazing partner. We're about
to hit seven years in August, then yeah, I'm going
to ban you because you're a phenomenal print. Uh Laverry
Adams says, I can't get out of my head that
James Gunn being the head of the Sea was the

(46:51):
ultimate troll that Joker could have put on Batman. Actually,
gun might be Joker. I don't know. I don't know.
I mean, I don't know. Look, I know people are
not gonna believe me, but I like James Gunn up
until the pr rollout for Superman, where I felt he
was being a little disingenuous, a little double talk, little
movie of the goalposts. I like James Gunn and I've

(47:13):
liked his movies, but I do think he's a little
bit over his head with this stuff. And I think
being on social media so much is causing him to
be a little bit over his head in this stuff,
and it's showing. It's like a coach in sports. You
watch the guy. He's got this great roster, or he's
putting in a great roster, and he's moving from assistant

(47:37):
head coach or defensive coroner offensive gorn a two head coach.
It's a whole nother ballgame up here. It's a whole
nother ballgame up here. And he's also being a general
manager because he's picking the players the actors that are
going to be in his movies. That's a lot of responsibility.
Do you know how many successful coach slash general managers
or manager slash general managers. There are very few that

(48:00):
are successful. So it's a tough thing that he's taken on.
So he says there he expects to have two fully
written scripts for both Batman and Brave in the Bull
by the end of the year. I don't believe him,
but he says that, So we will see, we will see. Dumb,

(48:21):
dumb it's been so long. I was just thinking about
you the other day, Tom, I was deleting some old
old graphics off the folder from a certain company that
sponsored us way in the past, and I was thinking
about you and missing you, brother. He said, have you
watched the George Cooley produced documentary on Max Surviving Ohio State.
It's about the OSU male athlete sexual abuse OSU enabled.

(48:44):
I gotta be honest with you, Dom right now, with
everything that's going on in the world and how depressing
or debilitating or sad some of it feels, and hopeless
some of it feels. I haven't been able to put
myself through that documentary yet because in the end, the

(49:06):
people who did it got away with it, and we're
seeing that all over the place in our world. So
for me seeing it another situation where these horrible people
did horrible things or turned a blind eye like Jim
Jordan did or allegedly did, is not It's not something
I'm necessarily running to put myself through. That being said,

(49:26):
I do need to watch it, so I will be
watching it probably tomorrow or Tuesday and putting myself through it.
But yeah, but dude, I hear it's amazing, and so
I do want to see it and review it and
put it up on Rotten Tomatoes. But thanks, man, I
appreciate you reaching out. It's great to see you. Man.

Speaker 2 (49:42):
It's great to hear if it's been so long.

Speaker 1 (49:43):
Brother Man. Oliver thirty four seve forties is my superchat
was under the latest hot mic clip.

Speaker 2 (49:48):
I know what was it though, Oliver. You got to
just tell me what it was. I've just just put
it in the chat.

Speaker 1 (49:54):
Uh. So let's see. Let's see, right, Derek, what's up? Derek?
Oh my god, thanks coming in, Derek, just saw you
were alive. Gonna throw in some love. Let these haters
keep providing fuel for your ambition. They'll never be where
you are in life. Oh that's true. That's very true.
Unfortunately unless they make the changes I did, because when
I was in the worst places of my life, I

(50:15):
was suicidal. As you guys know, in twenty sixteen, I
try to take my own life. But that wasn't the
only time. There were times in the past. You know
where I felt in two thousand and five where I
had a friend sitting me in, a friend who was
just recently married in Paris. Beautiful wedding, I couldn't make
it because I'm not traveling out of this country with
my anti Trump stances on my social media, I am
not traveling out of this country. But I sadly had

(50:38):
to miss my friend's wedding. But she was amazing. Sat
me down in two thousand and five and said, honey,
you have so much anger. It's all over the place.
You're so frustrated. Please see a therapist. And that changed
my life. And then a few years later, as I
said in twenty sixteen, because I was just so frustrated
about how terrible of a partner I was in romantic

(51:01):
relationships and why I couldn't find the women that I
wanted to be with, and that I was in women
who just I was with women who constantly reinforced my
low self esteem and low self worth. I had to
confront all that. And so, until you confront the things
that are causing your anger, and I don't mean that, YouTuber,

(51:21):
I mean like legitimately inside. Until you confront those things,
you're not going to climb out of the hatred you
have for your life, the pathetic place that your life
is at. And that's what frustrates me about the maga situation.
They've weaponized this feeling of hating their lives and they've

(51:42):
put the blame outside, external blame on. It's immigrants, it's
people of color, it's a democrats, it's liberals, it's progressives.

Speaker 2 (51:49):
No, it's you.

Speaker 1 (51:52):
It's you have messed up your life. You need to
take a look at yourself. You need to make the changes.
And that applies to people on the left as well.
Oh it's the yeah, I got no, no, no. If
you are feelings, you've got to find your way through
this stuff. So it's like, this is the thing you
have to understand. Is like, until you confront the reasons
of why you're unhappy with your life, why you're unhappy
with the world, you're never going to climb out of it.

(52:13):
And until you do the real work, and that means
really taking look at yourself. Don't be with a therapist
that constant tells you you're totally fine, You're okay, how
you are. Now, you got to do the work. You
know you're not.

Speaker 2 (52:26):
Something is wrong.

Speaker 1 (52:27):
So you've got to figure out what that wrong thing
is so that you can be in a better place. Now.

Speaker 2 (52:33):
It may be that you're a.

Speaker 1 (52:33):
Person who has an overwhelming sense of self hatred for yourself.
But you've got to find out where they came from, right,
and then you can be in a place of self love. Now.
I have hard time saying self love because I'm not
a person who likes to say I love myself. It's
not it. But I know I'm in a better place
now than I've been for a majority of my life
because I confronted the stuff that I needed to confront

(52:54):
and my anger and frustration, and I got the tools
I needed to navigate the situation. No, I don't. I'm
not always successful. I'm not always successful. I do make mistakes,
i do slip, but I'm always working at it. So
thank you, Derek. I appreciate you saying that. Brother man,
it's always great to see you in here as well.
Adam Labory Adams is not agreeing with people is not

(53:16):
a reason to be disrespectful. I agree. Thank you for
your voice, even when I don't always agree with you.
Thank you, Lavery Adams for your voice. Even though I
don't always agree with you. I think debate, I think
disagreeing with people, I think is great because you get
to see another side of things. Now.

Speaker 2 (53:30):
You may not always agree with.

Speaker 1 (53:31):
Them in terms of like when they lay it out,
but you can understand them. And if there's anything I
take from the weird thing I did years ago call
the Forum, where they kind of said, like, you know what,
you don't have to always be right in every debate
or situation or conversation. You just need to You just
need to be heard. You need to be understood, and
you need to give that to the people you are debating.

(53:54):
I want to understand where you're coming from. I may
not agree with you, but I want to understand, and
an unders standing you have a better uh, you have
a better possibility of finding common ground than you do in.

Speaker 2 (54:05):
In not understanding. So yeah, thank you man, I appreciate that.
Lebry Adam do.

Speaker 1 (54:09):
You Fashal do you want to Batman? Is this a
good idea? John? No, I don't.

Speaker 2 (54:13):
I personally don't.

Speaker 1 (54:14):
I think it should be one, because I think the
way it's going is going to be too confusing.

Speaker 2 (54:18):
You need to have it now.

Speaker 1 (54:20):
I think what they may do is do the Batman
Part two and that's it, Like they wrap up the
Reeves verse and that's it. It's done after the Batman
Part two, and then they move on to the Brave
and Bold, and whose ever the Batman and the braven
Bold is the Batman in the James Gunn universe. Now,
I think that's a very real possibility. But no, I
don't want two Batmen to be there for years. Uh

(54:43):
one Batman for the like, maybe one more of the
Batman movie and then that's it and they wrap up
the Reeves verse or as I as as as I
was said earlier. If this movie is not reviewed well
and it's mixed criticism and it underperforms in the box office,
I'm telling you right now, don't be surprised if all
of a sudden we get the announcement that Robert Pattinson

(55:03):
is coming into the gun Averse. Because Zaslov says, look,
that movie made seven hundred and seventy eight million dollars
during COVID. Your movie barely made seven hundred out of COVID.

Speaker 2 (55:17):
We need him.

Speaker 1 (55:18):
It's very possible. I'm not saying it's going to happen.
I'm saying it's very possible. Supernindental challess. I've been thinking
the same thing about gun being online too much. He
doesn't have to respond to every rumor. I get why
he's doing it. He's trying to stop misinformation from going forward.

Speaker 2 (55:33):
I totally get it.

Speaker 1 (55:34):
But at the same token, it's becoming too much, and
if everyone is noticing it, then I think you're on
the wrong path. And I disagree with my fellow colleagues
who say it's great that he's online doing all of
this kind of stuff. I don't. I don't think my
fellow colleagues are you know, terrible people for feeling this way.
I just disagree with them. I think this is not

(55:56):
a positive for him to be doing, and it's gonna
blow up in his face because people are, well, you
said this on this date, but now you're saying this
on that date, and then.

Speaker 2 (56:05):
He's having to clarify that.

Speaker 1 (56:06):
So it's becoming a cyclical thing, a snake eating its
own tail, and I think that's not a good thing. Honestly.
Steve Meet says, the third eye doesn't see the world
only within. That's right. Good job, Steve. I appreciate that.
Derek back again, Thank you, Derek. Agree with the sentiment
about the heroes of color. We've had Batman, Superman, and
Spider Man's white faces for a long time. In this
movie's base Marvel has opened that up and I'm hoping

(56:28):
that DCU doesn't drop the ball. Love this show, great point, Derek, Yeah,
whatever your feelings are about Ironheart, I think it was
a little half baked, not one hundred percent a great show.
It was great to see a young black female lead
in a show for Marvel. It was great to see
that and see the culture. Although I do think they
were a bit I think they window shopped the culture.

(56:48):
I don't think they showed the culture as strongly as
they should have. And I'll say that as a person
of color, and I'll say as a person of color
who lived in lower economic means for the first ten
years of my life, Like, I know what the those
areas are like, and I think they they highlighted some
of the nicer stuff that goes on, but I don't
I think they window shopp just selectively showed you the
culture and there could have been more there. But I

(57:12):
did enjoy some of the show, but it was nice
to see that. So hopefully, hopefully better writing, better directing,
and better performances are coming for shows that have these
kinds of leads in them, because they deserve better. And
that's the frustrating part, but yeah, I hope DC goes there,
and I think bringing in, you know, John Stewart, bringing

(57:33):
in Aaron Pierre to play Jon Stewart and Lanterns is
a good next move. I think Edgathinki for mister Terrific
is gonna be fun to see, so I hope we
get more of him, Derek says, throwing some more before
I go.

Speaker 2 (57:45):
Thank you, Derek, Happy forth.

Speaker 1 (57:47):
Weekend, John and being you always love the shows, Always
love you, brother. Thanks for supporting, brother. Honestly, I mean
the world, all of you who are watching right now,
thanks for supporting.

Speaker 2 (57:55):
I wasn't sure if I was even gonna go live today.

Speaker 1 (57:57):
I was like, ten, am, who's gonna be want to
kind of hang out with me on a Sunday? And
I have well over six hundred people hanging out. So
thank you so much, honestly, and you've been with me
for the whole hour, so I appreciate it. And for
those who you're sending in super chests like Derek Is
and stream Labs, I appreciate it madly Madley as well.
One more and then we'll jump into the next story.
Grinning Wombat says, what do you think WB will consider

(58:19):
a success for Superman hard Rotten Tomato, high Rotten Tomato
score and low box office or middle to low run
Tomato score in high box office, Oh, definitely the SACA one.
I don't think they give a shit about rotten Tomato score.
They care about the money because then you can craft
the narrative that it's about we. You know, because I
said this in my tweet that if they have critics

(58:41):
that are at seventy percent on the movie, but the
movie makes eight hundred, nine hundred million dollars, then they
can pump out the narrative that.

Speaker 2 (58:52):
This is a film that was made for the fans.

Speaker 1 (58:54):
We made it for the fans, not the stuffy critics.
You know, what's the comment the middle aged critics. Yeah,
never mind that they've had more life experience than you,
and it can actually break down a film better than you.
But whatever, that's your your feeling, your opinion, you're more
than welcome to it as a as a twenty year
old who's barely been out of the house. Fine, but
like this this.

Speaker 2 (59:14):
Stuff you see here.

Speaker 1 (59:15):
I think they want a high box office because that
gives them the cachet, and James Gunn gives him the Cashet.
Don't believe him when he's like, I just hope we
break even or make our money back. Shut the fuck up. Yes,
that's bullshit. It's bullshit. You want to be an uber success.
We know your ego and you want to be a success,
and there's nothing wrong with that. There's nothing wrong with
wanting to be a success. So I think they definitely

(59:38):
want a They want a good artist score and a
high box office, that's the ultimate wish. But they will
take a lower artist score in a higher box office,
especially if it's over eight hundred million, because I kind
of think that's what this film needs to hit, between
seven fifty to eight hundred to be considered a bona
fhyte smash and a confirmation that the James Gonna approach

(01:00:03):
this DC universe is the right approach.

Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
That's what I think uh Leby had him back against
as opposed to God.

Speaker 1 (01:00:08):
I wish FIGI would could interact more with the fans,
especially on Twitter. Well. I think that's why he doesn't,
because he knows he's gonna get smoked. I mean he
gets smoked at Cinema con Whenever he comes out with anything,
he gets smoked because people go, well, what about this?
What about that? What about this? Oh? Your ten year plan?
This was these last two phases were your ten year planned.
That's the thing. He gets smoked either way. So when

(01:00:28):
you put yourself out there, that's what happens. And so
I think FIGI knows, like fuck this. You know, I'm
not a person who's front facing. I will do it
when I have to, but I'd rather work behind the
scenes and find great talent. So I hag. Rocky says,
I love your channel. Always appreciate you, take your own
movies in life.

Speaker 2 (01:00:44):
Keep gout the great work. Thank you, I sag, I
appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (01:00:48):
All right, this is a good seguek because we're talking
about Jurassic World rebirth now. But the Ali Smith, he says.
Scarlet Johansson is now the highest grossing actor of all
time old Tony at the worldwide box office? Is she
the first woman to a chieat and is she the
first woman to achieve this title? Congrass, Well, I think
you just said she is, you said, Scarlet Jensen is
now the highest grossing actor of old oh, actor of

(01:01:10):
all time at the Worldwide boxer Yeah, but that's I mean,
you're you're kind of if you're thrown in the Avengers movies,
you're essentially implying that she's the lead of those movies.

Speaker 2 (01:01:21):
I don't think that counts.

Speaker 1 (01:01:23):
It has to be movies that she has led, right,
I like people trying to put that on Sam Jackson.
It's nonsense. Okay, you have to be like Tom Cruise
deserves that title. Tom Cruise is the lead of almost
every film he's in yet, not Tropic Thunder or not
What Age of Rock or whatever it was, or Magnolia,
but pretty much he is the lead in all of
his film So you can look at that with Scarlet.

(01:01:45):
You cannot throw the Marvel stuff in there other than
Black Widow in my opinion, because that's those are ensemble films,
and really they're led by Robert Downing Junior and Chris Evans.

Speaker 2 (01:01:56):
It ain't Scarlet they brought back.

Speaker 1 (01:01:58):
It's r Dy j they brought back to be doctor Doom.
It's because they know he is their top money maker, right,
And so I don't think you can do that. But
I but if you want to use it as a
as a catch all, than fine, Yes, absolutely, all right,
one more, one more, I promise we'll get to the
dress world uh amartya achaday. I hope I said that right, brother,

(01:02:19):
I hope I'm not offending you. John is an Indian.
Guns comment I believe is implicitly racist. Wow. Even if
fellow DC fans from India won't agree with me, that
comment had sounded a comment sounded very weird and I
believe for racism. Yeah, he was talking about He's talking
about the comment where James Gunn said to Greg Al
about the Real Rejects in their interview that he thought
he was getting upset about what some twelve year old

(01:02:40):
kid on India in India is saying on social media.
I will not tell you to not feel that it
was racism. I didn't think it was implicitly racist.

Speaker 2 (01:02:50):
But if you feel this way, brother, I.

Speaker 1 (01:02:54):
You know, concede to you because it's it's your your country,
your people, and if you feel this way, then I
totally understand that. I think he was just trying to
say something offhand about it, and he chose India as
the country, which I think was a stupid, stupid thing
to say. There's a billion people in India, man, that's
that's a market that you're insulting. And everyone knows the

(01:03:16):
Bollywood is massive. Indian cinema has been amazing. What was
the most recent one killed that I saw on the train, Like,
there's so many triple are there's so many inroads that
are being made by Indian cinema and Korean cinema, India television,
Korean in our in our pop culture world of entertainment.
I just thought it was a stupid thing to say.

(01:03:37):
I don't know if it was racist. I just thought
it was stupid. So yeah, that's the way, and Greg
should have Greg should have stopped the interview and Bean like, James,
do you want are you sure you want to say that?
Do you want to edit that out? Like just taking
care of of James a little bit. But you know,
when you're in that moment, it's tough to think on
your feet.

Speaker 2 (01:03:55):
I've been there. It's tough to think.

Speaker 1 (01:03:56):
On you feel, like with Perry and the Star Wars thing, Yes,
you could have corrected the guy, but she has a
limited amount of time so it not necessarily you don't
know if you can or can't correct someone in that
time frame. And so it's it's it's you know, it's tough,
it's tough, but yeah, all right, So let's move on.
Let's move on to Jurassic World. Let's talk about it.

(01:04:17):
Jurassic World Rebirth. WHOA what a box office weekend. But
let me say this is it everything we think it is?
All right? Remember this is over a five day weekend.
Jurassic World Rebirth, the seventh installment and Universal's long running series,
stopped to a one hundred and forty seven point three

(01:04:38):
million dollars opening weekend over its first five days in
forty three hundred North American theaters and globally, where's the
global number? Globally it made three hundred and eighteen million
dollars with a one hundred and seventy one million dollars
grossed from eighty two international markets. That is massive. But

(01:05:02):
when you look at the comparisons here, some box office
analysts are breaking this down and I picked some stuff
that they've said. The initial returns are down significantly for
more recent entries in the thirty two year old franchise,

(01:05:22):
and they're talking about the three day weekend, not the
five day thing. So after over the three day we
this three day weekend, for context, Drastic World Rebirth earned
ninety one point five million over the traditional weekend the
movie open on Wednesday, capitalized on the Independence Day stress.
So yes, but over three days at earned ninety one
point five million. That's a steep drop from the three
day starts of twenty fifteen Drastic World, which opened at

(01:05:46):
two hundred and eight million over three days two hundred
and eight million, and Durrassic World Fallen Kingdom at one
hundred and forty eight million and Dominion at.

Speaker 2 (01:05:55):
One hundred and forty five million.

Speaker 1 (01:05:57):
So yes, over five days it made one hundred and
forty seven million dollars. But these other films over three
days made arguably the same or more as I said here,
Jurassic World two hundred and eight Fallen Kingdom one hundred
and forty eight million, and Dominion one hundred and forty five.
So yes, this is a damn good box office take

(01:06:18):
for Jurassic World rebirth. And this signifies that it's gonna
have Dino legs over the next few weeks through Superman
and possibly through Fantastic Four, which is just an utter
surprise and shock to me because it's so funny to
be on the other side of this, Like a Transformers fan,
I like those movies, and a lot of you go
I don't understand how these movies made a billion dollars.

(01:06:41):
I'm in the same camp about Jurassic World slash Jassic Park.
I don't know how these movies make so much money
because they're so terrible and it's just kind of mind
blowing to me. But just as people feel the Transformers
movies are terrible, and I like them. I was watching
a little bit of Dark of the Moon last night
for an hour there. For whatever reason, they they speak

(01:07:04):
my language of stupid. They speak my language of fun, stupid, fun, fun,
dumb stuff in a movie, right, And I think a
lot of people and I went back and forth to
somebody last night about the movie, and they said something
really insulting, like, oh, you went in with the wrong mindset,
which I think is a really childish thing to say
to someone, because.

Speaker 2 (01:07:22):
We all go in with our regular mindsets, and if.

Speaker 1 (01:07:25):
You like the movie, you're implying that because you like
the movie, you went in with the right mindset, and
someone not liking the movie went in with the wrong mindset.
And that's stupid because the person with the quote unquote
wrong mindset can say to you, well, you went in
with the wrong mindset because you went in wanting to
like the movie no matter what was in there. A
dinosaur could have taken a crap for two hours.

Speaker 2 (01:07:47):
And you would have loved it.

Speaker 1 (01:07:49):
And so you can't say that people go in how
they go in, and you are not a person to
decide their mindset going in unless you personally know them
and I've had conversations with them before they go into
a movie theater, So that was stupid. But anyway, this idea,
these films are bad and I did not like drassical
where We're gonna do our review tomorrow with the geek budies,
I'm gonna curious to hear what Shannon and Boe Well.

Speaker 2 (01:08:10):
Thought about it, but like, it's not a good movie.

Speaker 1 (01:08:13):
That being said, Drassic World clearly scratches the itch for
a lot of people, both domestically and internationally, or else
it wouldn't have made the money it made this weekend.
So you can say, well, it kind of pales in
comparison for the three day weekend to these other films
that did much more over their traditional three day weekend,

(01:08:34):
but the fact that it's overall total it's opening weekend
over five days is comparable to these previous installments.

Speaker 2 (01:08:41):
That speaks volumes to the kind of.

Speaker 1 (01:08:45):
Effect it has on the world and people liking these movies. Now,
next weekend is where we're really going to see the
legs of this movie. The next two weekends is where
we're gonna find out what we've got in this movie?
Right where where is it lay? Like with Bat Superman
toe to tow next weekend, it's not going to beat Superman,
forgot or if it does, fucking forget it. I mean, like,

(01:09:06):
if it beats out Superman next weekend, fucking forget it.
Like Gun is going to take such such a black
eye from that in DC, and all of them will.
But I don't think it'll beat it. I think Superman
will win handily, by the way. But if it drops
precipitously next weekend and the weekend after, then we're looking

(01:09:27):
at a film that you can put into a much
more nuanced context and understand if this is a franchise
that still has legs and still has power. You know,
because you could argue, look Tom Cruise, that latest Drass
or the latest Mission Impossible film. I think it made
almost five hundred million dollars. Most franchises would be quite

(01:09:49):
happy with a five hundred million dollar installment, but because
it was made for four hundred million, that's where the
problem was, right, And so looking at Drastic World, I
think what was the budget, like one hundred and eighty.
I think the budget was one hundred and eighty for
Jurassic World Rebirth And.

Speaker 2 (01:10:05):
So yeah, is that what it is?

Speaker 1 (01:10:09):
Oh yeah, So and looking at Jurassic World and Falling
Kingdom and Dominion, just to put a little more context here,
because I forgot I forgot that I left this out.
After five days on the big screen, Jurassic World made
two hundred and fifty eight million dollars, Falling Kingdom made
one hundred and eighty one million dollars, and Dominion made
one hundred and seventy two So when you put the

(01:10:30):
five day context in, then Jurassic World Rebirth is really
behind these other three installments that came before it. That
does not bode well in my opinion for the next
weekend and the weekend after. Now I've been wrong on
box office or so. Maybe this thing's got, you know,
as I said, Dino powered legs, and it's gonna be
just fine over the next couple of weeks. But if

(01:10:51):
it drops like sixty seventy percent in the next weekend
and then the weekend after, and this is gonna sink
in essence to like five or six hundred million possibly,
which is fine. It's a profitable film because if it
was made for one hundred and eighty and you throw
in one hundred and eighty to produce, but then it
had a marketing budget, which which was probably way less

(01:11:15):
than the two hundred and fifty million that the studio
shelled out for the Jurassic World film. So yeah, let's say,
let's say total with marketing, let's say two fifty. Let's
be let's be generousay two twenty five, although I do
think it's probably two fifty for the marketing and all
of this. If it makes five hundred million, it's May
two and a half. It's my story. It's made twice

(01:11:36):
its budget overall. So that's great.

Speaker 2 (01:11:40):
But that to me doesn't.

Speaker 1 (01:11:42):
Bode well going forward with this crew of characters Scarlet
and Harshlon and what have you. Nor does it bode
well in my opinion, to go forward careth edwards, because
these films typically overperform in the billion dollar range, and
this is kind of like bumblebee, right, like a lot

(01:12:03):
of people put out Bumblebee's better than the previous Transformers movies.
I hated those Transformers last night, sucked my nuts to
Bumblebee's amazing. This is what Transformers should be. Bumblebee is amazing.
And Bubblebee topped out at like four hundred something million dollars,
right because none of the characters, Yeah, well, Bumblebee, but

(01:12:25):
none of the human characters came back from the previous films, right,
and Michael Bay didn't come back. Just like this, This
is Gareth Edwards, this is Scarlett Johansson, marslaw Lee, Jonathan Bailey,
Rupert Friend. These are not people who've been involved in
the Jurassic Park or were Drassic World franchise before. So

(01:12:47):
if this film tops out at five hundred, which I
probably I probably doubt, it's going to probably get six.
I don't think it's gonna go past six. I just
don't not. With Superman A Fantastic four around and with
F one still doing incredibly well at the box offits,
I don't see it's going I don't see that it's
going to pass it. So it's going to get to

(01:13:07):
seven hundred and eight hundred million dollars. But if it does,
then I'll shut my damn mouth. And this is a powerful,
powerful franchise. So to me, I'm gonna be really curious
to see what the end results are going to be
in the next two weeks. But for an opening weekend,
considering people didn't expect too much from.

Speaker 2 (01:13:23):
This movie, it did well. Did it do well compared
to the Jurassic World movies.

Speaker 1 (01:13:30):
No, But I think just like Bumblebee, it didn't come
with the massive expectations of those previous Transformers films, and
it didn't come with the massive expansions expectations of the
previous Jurassic World films. So it's kind of a one
off and let's see what it does and what happened

(01:13:51):
with that. They didn't bring back Travis snyderor Haley stein
steinfeld Er, anybody else who was involved in those and
now we have Michael Bay So.

Speaker 2 (01:14:00):
I'll be surprised.

Speaker 1 (01:14:00):
I'm telling this now, and I'm telling you, I really
believe this. These Hollywood is fucking crazy. Don't be surprised
if they bring back Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard
for another run at this thing, argued quality all you want.
They made a billion dollars with every installment, so gives

(01:14:23):
a fuck about quality if you can make a billion.
I think it's a bad message to send to the
studios in my personal opinion, because you're saying, if you
give me a half baked effort, like Jurassic World Rebirth
was not even half baked, quarter baked, We're still going
to come and see it. And so what's the motivation
to go get great directors, great writers, great actors to
be a part of this thing if you're going to

(01:14:45):
deliver this kind of movie overall?

Speaker 2 (01:14:49):
You know, so we'll see, we'll see.

Speaker 1 (01:14:53):
And I think, going back on Smithy's comments, sorry, but
Scarlett Johansson, it's Charlet Johnson the reason this movie made
a lot of money. Or is it Jurassic Park Drassic World?
And I think it's Jurassic Park Jurassic World, right, So
I think that's whereas Black Widow, I think is much
more Scarlet than Marvel. And so that's the difference there,

(01:15:13):
whereas thinking this, it's very clear that it's you want
to see a drastic world move and they're happy that
Scarlett is the lead because Scarlett has a lot of
good will with the public, you know, so it's the
combo as opposed to the solo thing.

Speaker 2 (01:15:25):
That's kind of how I look at that. But what
do you all think?

Speaker 1 (01:15:28):
You do you like this box?

Speaker 2 (01:15:30):
Obvius? Do you think this is amazing?

Speaker 1 (01:15:31):
You know?

Speaker 2 (01:15:32):
And Smith he says that bay.

Speaker 1 (01:15:33):
To see Chris Pratt get eaten this time, right, So yeah,
amazing stuff there for them. I'm sure the studio is
happy with the numbers, probably not overwhelmingly happy with the numbers,
but certainly happy with the numbers because this is it's
like hobbson Shaw, essentially a spinoff that they've done here,
and so they're hoping they can get to seven or

(01:15:54):
eight hundred, but I kind of doubt it'll get past
five or six tops. I think if it gets to six,
then maybe you can make an argument that they should
go forward with these guys. But if it gets to
five and that's it, or less than five, I think
you got to reevaluate what you want to do next
with the franchise, because I mean a lot of things
are dependent on Jurassic We're like the rides and the merchandise,

(01:16:16):
all of that stuff anyway, all right, So anything more
to say on that, I know I've got a few
super chats and stream levels to come through, but I
want to move on to one more thing and then
swing back to those No but no, Well, I guess

(01:16:36):
I should say, so here's my.

Speaker 2 (01:16:38):
Non spoiler review of Being Like Well.

Speaker 1 (01:16:41):
I guess you guys saw my out of theater reaction, right,
So if you want to hear what I think about
the film, go to go to my out of theater
reaction that's up on the channel, and tomorrow we're recording
the review. I don't know if we're going to put
out the review tomorrow. I put it out Tuesday morning
to let more people watch the movie, but we are
going to do a spoiler review. We're recording it tomorrow
for the geek buddies, so look for that coming out

(01:17:03):
in the next couple of days. Let's move on to
this F one man. How about F one? F one
is just killing it. It added twenty six million dollars
over this weekend from thirty from the thirty seven hundred
venues in its second weekend, marking a fifty four percent
decline from its opening weekend. The film has generated one
hundred and nine million dollars in North America and two

(01:17:25):
hundred and ninety three six million worldwide after ten days.
F one has officially now surpassed director Ridley Scott's twenty
twenty three film Napoleon, which had topped out at two
hundred and twenty one million total in the box office. Now,
before you go crazy about the numbers, it cost two
hundred and fifty million dollars to produce the movie. So

(01:17:49):
that's a big hit. That's a big mountain they have
to climb. But of course they Apple. I think Apple
doesn't make these movies to see massive profits in the
box office. It's to stay in league with these actors.
It's to promote the brand that they are a place
people can act these actors of note and name and
quality can go to in order to make movies there.
And so that's what you see going on with Apple.

(01:18:12):
So I think they're happy with the numbers. I don't
think they're like, oh my god, this is amazing, we
are the greatest or whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:18:18):
They're just like, oh cool.

Speaker 1 (01:18:19):
I'm glad I made a lot of money. Let's see
what we can do in the future. And of course
let's talk about an F one sequel. So someone someone
asked me about an F one sequel. I should put
up there super I should look at find their super chat.

(01:18:40):
Do I have it? Oh shit, I don't have it. Sorry, guys,
I don't think I have it? Or was it? Oh no,
I'm sorry. It was a streamline, wasn't it? Yes? It was?
Uh yeah, Jonathan Charles, My favorite movie the year so
far as F One. What would you like to see
in the sequel if we get one? Keep up the
great works on Well? You know, a friend of mine,
just to prove to you that I don't always have
the answers, even though I think I do in my mind,

(01:19:01):
a friend of mine reached out to me the other
day and was like, do you know.

Speaker 2 (01:19:04):
You do know that F one is a Western right?

Speaker 1 (01:19:07):
And I was like, wait what, wait what? And he goes, yeah,
it's the Western construct, It's high Planes Drifter, And I
was like, shut the fuck up. I hadn't thought of
it that way. Yeah, because the guys. The guy shows
up out of the ether. He's got a past history.
His friend wants to bring him into this situation. He

(01:19:30):
teaches the young buck some stuff. He changes the town,
he challenges the town, he beats back the villain. He
helps his buddy keep his racing team, and he starts
a romance with a woman in the town and then
leaves at the end without the romance and moves on

(01:19:53):
to the next town. And I is like, son of
a bitch, Like I just thought it was like I
hadn't even seen it that way. I just thought I
saw it in the construct of a nineties sports film,
because that's what it felt like to me, and on
some of the like days of Thundy, this was great
a ninety sports film, and he unlocked it for me
in a way that I hadn't thought about. So when
you asked me what I want to see in a sequel,

(01:20:14):
we saw where the movie ends. I don't want to ruin.
I haven't seen it, but like we saw where the
movie ends and where he's going next, I think he
moves to a whole new other type of racing and
a whole other type of assistance that he delivers to
the people involved to help them and save them from
their situation. So that's what I think, and I would

(01:20:36):
love to see that. I don't think we need to
see Kerry Condon back. I think we you know, we
got what we got in the movie. I think there's
another woman he can start a romance with that would
be fun to see another kind of Western type situation
for him to roll into. Maybe you mirror a little
bit of fist full of dollars where there's another racer
who is just as comparable, just at the same age.

(01:20:59):
A lot of people talk talking about a cold Trickle
Sonny Hayes sequel here from with Days of Thunder crossing
over that one. That could be a lot of fun.
But yeah, that's what you see. But it's an interesting situation.
I'm curious to see where we go with it all.
But yeah, I'm very happy. I love the film, I
really do. I've tried to go see it again over

(01:21:19):
the last few days, but you know, I don't like
to go to full theaters, and it's been full. So
I'm waiting for maybe Monday or Tuesday for the numbers
to go down, not that I want the numbers to
go down, but for the people going to see these
movies in this movie, and I'm axed to go down
so I can go see it comfortably and enjoy the
film without people talking, sleeping, opening candy, or being dumb.

(01:21:42):
So I like to go to as empty of a
theater as I can to see a movie, and so
I'm going to see it again and then I'll do
probably a spoiler review, full on spoiler review, but I'll
tell you this, I loved that.

Speaker 2 (01:21:52):
I thought it was great.

Speaker 1 (01:21:52):
Brat Pitt's fantastic, Harry Connin's great demps, and Interest is good.
The racing sequences or the reason to go see this movie.
I do think some of the storylines have as much
as much emotional power or weight as you were hoping
for them to have. I like having on about them
in the movie, although I think that relationship should have
had more time on screen. I do like the crew,

(01:22:14):
although I think the Blonde was kind of an unnecessary
subplot that really didn't go anywhere that was satisfying. I
do think one of the knocks for me, though, is
that Damson Interest becomes a less important person as the
film goes on and Brad Pitt takes center stage, and
that bothered me because I want to see more from
Damson and I wanted to see more with them together,

(01:22:34):
working with each other and figuring things out together, and
him learning from the Young Buck as much as he's
teaching the Young Buck, and I would have liked to
have seen more of that. So that was my issue
with the movie, my main issue with the movie, but
overall I really had a great time. It is you know,
people were saying like, oh, people don't want to have
fun in movie. People forgot how to have fun because
they're not liking Jurassic World Rebirth, which I think is

(01:22:56):
the stupidest thing to say to somebody, Oh, you don't
know how to have fun. People are having so much
fun in F one. The same people who are bored
out of their fucking minds in Jurassic World Rebirth are
watching F one and having a blast because that's an
actually fun movie.

Speaker 2 (01:23:15):
And so there's the difference.

Speaker 1 (01:23:16):
So these people who are trying to defend their positions
and people not liking the movie is like you don't
know how to have fun or you forgot how to
have fun in a movie. Is asinine and stupid. You know,
people are having fun with F one, People are having
fun with How to Train Your Dragon, which is doing well.

Speaker 2 (01:23:32):
I think it's almost at four hundred and five hundred million.

Speaker 1 (01:23:34):
People had fun in Leelan Stitch, which is almost at
a billion dollars. People know how to have fun, it's
just that your movie that you like, is fucking stupid,
and so people are not having fun with the movie
because it's not a fun movie. It is for you,
but it's not for other people. Uh anyway, Yes? Is that?
Is that all the box office stuff that I wanted

(01:23:55):
to get? You know, so you have the update because
I know we'll talk about a Christian shu tomorrow. But
How to Train Your I Can has generated two hundred
twenty four million domestically and five hundred and sixty million globally,
so it's over five hundred million dollars globally. Ileo sadly
is only at ninety six million dollars globally, which sucks.

Speaker 2 (01:24:17):
I really liked the Ileo.

Speaker 1 (01:24:18):
If you read the Hollywood Reporter behind the scenes on
the Illeo stuff, Jeff and I went on about it.
Maybe I'll clip that out and put it up today,
but yeah, we went off about it and we were
not on the same page, which I thought made for
a good battle between us. Lelo and Stitches at nine
hundred and seventy two million dollars globally, so it's eighteen
million dollars away from crossing a billion, which is insane.

(01:24:40):
The thing to look at though, also is twenty eight
years later, it is now at one hundred and twenty
five point eight million dollars globally with a budget that
was sixty so you could argue that it is it
has made double its budget, so it's now in profit
land about one hundred and twenty five. That's not a
massive access on a sixty.

Speaker 2 (01:25:00):
Million dollar budget.

Speaker 1 (01:25:02):
So I think the twenty eight years later franchise is
in a little bit of trouble. And I don't know
how much they've shot with Nia DaCosta or if she
started shooting, but yeah, I don't know, we're gonna see.
I feel like she's in a bad position because if
this film doesn't do well the second one because they

(01:25:22):
don't like that fucking Jimmy Savile shit at the end,
that's gonna be bad.

Speaker 2 (01:25:27):
That's gonna be bad for this franchise.

Speaker 1 (01:25:29):
And the third one might go to streaming instead of
going out in the theaters, even though Danny Boyle is
directing it.

Speaker 2 (01:25:33):
So we will see.

Speaker 1 (01:25:35):
All right, let's hit some of the some more of
these streaming lab super chats were were we uh, yeah,
here we go? Two of them? Okay, Jamier Reyes four
or five, says Rip Julian McMahon. Ah, Yes, Julian McMahon
died over the last couple of days. For those who

(01:25:57):
don't know, he was Doctor Doom and those Tim Story
Fantastic four movies with Ian Grifod, Michael Chicklis, Jessica Alba
and Chris Evans and of course Niptock and recently in
The Surfer, which now I really want to see. I
was kind of on the fence, but now I want
to see because Nicholas Cage offered a really sweet tribute
to Julian McMahon, and a lot of people, like Michael

(01:26:21):
Chickler said something really sweet about him. Quite a few
people have come out with their tributes to Julian McMahon.
And I think it was cancer that took him. I
think only fifty four, right, I think he's pretty young. Yes, people,
fifties is young nowadays. People lived to like one hundred nowadays. Uh,
fifty six, Sorry, he's fifty six. So yeah. He died

(01:26:48):
peacefully at his home on July second in Clearwater, Florida,
following a private battle with cancer, according to the statement
that his wife shared with Good Morning America. So and
he's Australian American actor, and quite a lot of people
sent out tributes. Alissa Milano said she was heartbroken to

(01:27:09):
learn he walked into of his death. He walked into
a room and lit it up, not just with the charisma,
but with kindness, with mischief, with soulful understanding. Oh yeah, right,
because he was uncharmed, right right right, I remember that.
That's right. He was on fucking Charmed. I totally forgot
about that. Hally Marie Combs, who was on Charm, said
he had an unyielding us zest for life and crazy

(01:27:30):
making sense of humor that will be sorely missed. Ian Griffad,
who played Read richards in Those Fantastic Movies said noted
in his tribute that although he Ian McMahon played rivals
on screen quote, there was always so much lightness in laughter,
working together every encounter with him as a joy. Michael
Chickles said that life is so precious and fragile and
losing him as a reminder of that. Jolie Richardson, who

(01:27:51):
was on Niptok with him, said he could be hysterically funny,
hugely charming, and Kelly Carlson, who played Kimber Henry on Niptock,
said she was completely shocked and saddened by the death
of her good friend. There so quite a lot of
people spoke out about Julian Commann's passing and it's a
shame for those of you remember him. But I mean,
it's kind of interesting that he passes right before we

(01:28:11):
get a new Drass, a new Fantastic four movie. Yes,
that's super curious, super curious, Carlton Runner, what's up called?
This is London calling John loving the new Look Channel.
Thank you saw Jurassic The river t Rex attack scene
was great, but there was not enough meat on the bone.
I agree, there was not enough meat on the bone.
Some of those scenes that were supposed to be scary
were not scary at all. And that dinosaur they led

(01:28:36):
to at the end was super disappointing, super disappointing, unfortunately.
So yeah, that's the truth there. I think that's everybody
who's sent in a super chat. Sometimes I missed them,
But thank you Carlton for the compliments on the new
Look Channel. We're almost fully in place. As I said,
this is called the Truth with John Rocca, and we're

(01:28:57):
going to have a new video. We're gonna have new
graphics of this once we get it squared away, the
look and design squared away. It'll be in motion, all right.
Let me see if I've got any more stream lives
that have come through. I do have a couple. Mike McKenzie,
congrats on finishing Ghost of Sushima. Did you spare or
kill at the end? And why I killed? I killed,

(01:29:17):
and I was crying. I was dude. I loved Ghost
of Sushima, like loved it. It has consumed my life
for three weeks. I've lost sleep, I have I have
become obsessed. I've talked about look and I love Samurai.

(01:29:38):
I love Samurai cinema and Kurosawa and all of that.
So for me, it was in my wheelhouse. But I
don't think I understood how great this this game was.
It was frustrating, it was angering, and it was ultimately
incredibly rewarding. And at the end I chose to kill
because I think that's what he would have really wanted,

(01:30:00):
at least from what I took from our interactions. And
by the way, let me tell you something. If you're playing,
and I would highly recommend because there's nothing dated about
Ghost of Sushima. If you're a big fan of video games,
I highly highly recommend you play Ghost of Sushima. There
is so much emotion and story in that game, and
you lose people along the way, and when you lose

(01:30:21):
people like it is devastating. They time it out so
well so that you lose people right when you're getting
used to them being in your life and being a
part of your world, and right when they're really like
showing you who they can be and what they can.

Speaker 2 (01:30:37):
Do, and it is devastating.

Speaker 1 (01:30:40):
Man. And by the same token, you get to know
these incredible characters and fall in love with them, the
ones that live. And then what happens with your relationship
with certain a certain person you know, a certain person
that could possibly be a love interest I think is
incredible as well. And then what happens at the end. Man.

(01:31:03):
First of all, I got my ass kicked for I
think two hours, and I said, you know what, I
can't beat him right now. I'm not strong enough. I've
completed all the tasks on Ikey Island and on the
main island of Tsushima, but I think I need to
do these the blue ones, the not the legend stuff,

(01:31:26):
but the other kind of like finding the horse armor.
I had to do all of those, and as I
was doing all of those. I got better as a
swordsman and as a fighter, and I defeated the all
five of those people that I'm supposed to defeat, and
the main guy in the different areas of Sushima in
the one on one duels, so that when I faced

(01:31:48):
the person I faced at the end, which by the way,
I predicted halfway through the game, I knew I was
gonna have to face. And I faced that person. I
beat him twice. I beat him on my second attempt
when I went back after I'd completed, because I understood
timing and what to do, and it was incredible. It
was such a satisfying game. I cried.

Speaker 2 (01:32:09):
I mean I legitately cried.

Speaker 1 (01:32:10):
I'm giving him my real, honest emotions as he is
wailing doing what he what I programmed him to do.
I was crying myself in the chair, not not sobbing,
I was just crying because I really grew to love
that person, and of course a father thing, and it
just it just was so much and so for me,

(01:32:34):
or not for I guess, a parental thing, and so
much of it was just a fucking great That's all
I can say. And I tried to play the new
game plus, but it's not the same. You know what's
going to happen, you know who's going to be there,
you know what's going to happen emotionally, So it's not that.
And I put it on lethal, so it's I'm getting

(01:32:56):
killed more quickly. But it just feels like I'm I'm,
you know, trying to relive an old relationship that has
left me. That's what it feels like it. So I've
kind of stopped playing it. I went over to play
Assassin's Creed Shadows or whatever. Fuck man, it is not
anywhere near as good as Ghostu Shime, so I might

(01:33:16):
stop playing the game. It's not as good that the
controls are different and the constant oh recharge this memory
reignite this is ridiculous. And the other one, I just
do you want to battle again? Yes, a black frame
into the battle. This thing is like, oh, reach out.
So I'm not having a good time with the Assassin's
Creed one. So I don't know how much longer I'll

(01:33:38):
give it. But I like the yusukas Yusuke story and
I like the design of Usuke, and I want to
play you as Yusuke. But I think it's I think
it's I've never played Assassin's Creed game, so for me,
it's like this is a lot so whereas Ghost Ashima's
much more straightforward. So that's my long winded answer to
your question. But I thank you for asking me about it,
because I've wanted to talk to somebody about it, and

(01:33:59):
the lady outlaw is sick of hearing me talk about it,
for God's sake.

Speaker 2 (01:34:03):
So that's that's an amazing game.

Speaker 1 (01:34:06):
I wish I'd done Twitch for that, because I think
people would have loved seem I mean, I threw controllers.
I did shit I haven't done in twenty thirty years
playing a video game, because you know, the sports games,
I pretty much figured them out when I played them.

Speaker 2 (01:34:19):
But I was like throwing my controller.

Speaker 1 (01:34:21):
I was like fucking yelling it's unfair, you know, like
cry baby shit you do when you play a game.

Speaker 2 (01:34:26):
How I'm fucking to beat him, you know, And it's
like all of that.

Speaker 1 (01:34:30):
But there are so many great challenges and so much
great stuff with Tushima.

Speaker 2 (01:34:34):
So if you haven't played it, it's probably.

Speaker 1 (01:34:36):
Like twenty bucks on PS five highly highly recommend it.
If you got to be it's five all right PJB
seven sixty nine, seventy six sixty nine says John. One.
JG is in a new role now that comes with
as many limitations as it does freedoms. That's true.

Speaker 2 (01:34:51):
Two, Perhaps this bad early.

Speaker 1 (01:34:52):
Review and opinions of the three trusted reviews you know,
will reset the stupid high expectations to let people enjoy
it more than before. And that's very possible, man, It's
very possible, although I don't I don't know that you
can re set expectations because people It would take James
Gunn resetting expectations, and I think he's tried and it's
not working.

Speaker 2 (01:35:12):
And I think they are worried about the movie.

Speaker 1 (01:35:14):
No matter what they say outwardly, I think they're worried
about the movie. And I think they're concerned about how
it's going to be received. And now the fans are
going to react because it could have some pretty strong
reactions from people, and it could be a very mixed,
vitriolic next few weeks with this movie. And if Fantastic
four comes out and it is universally beloved, that's going

(01:35:39):
to make it even worse because then people are going
to be dc people are going to accuse people of
being like, oh your Marvel shills. You don't want d
C to succeed, you don't want James Gun to succeed.
This was programmed from the beginning, you know, that kind
of conspiracy mindset and all that shit. So so yeah,
I would love for the time reset the expectations, but

(01:36:01):
I don't expect it to. To be honest with you,
sky Nell, subscribe.

Speaker 2 (01:36:06):
Thank you, sky Nels.

Speaker 1 (01:36:07):

next day, next week, next month, next year. Do that.
You know. Someone posted a really great tweet that said,
if you think you can't get through the tough time
you're in right now, look at your track record of
