Speaker 1 (00:13):
What's up, everybody. Welcome to a brand new episode of
Spill the Tequila here on the John Rocca Channel, newly
minted John Roka Channel. Very excited to be here with
my brother in arms, here the King Swag himself, Winston.
He Marshall, how are you, Winston?
Speaker 2 (00:29):
I'm good man. Just uh, you know, I appreciate you
doing this early. I appreciate uh, you know, the fans
for joining us a little early. I have a Red
Carper premiere to go to, so I just needed to
do I needed to do this. Yeah, I got to
be there at five.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
Can you say what you're going to see?
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Yeah? Yeah, So, uh, you're familiar with.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
With Marshall, right, Marshall, yes, of course. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
One of the greatest PR people to ever do it.
He's over at Yeah. He used to run.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Disney's PR for years.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
He's he's been at Netflix now for a minute, and
he's mainly in charge of animation PR for Netflix and
especially during Award season. So, but the new movie they
have coming out, In Your Dreams, starring Craig Robinson, and
the dude that directed it and wrote it, he is.
(01:27):
He has a tendency to like he's done a bunch
of other like big films, I want to say, for
like Pixar and stuff like that, but this is his first,
his like dream project directorial debut and all that kind
of stuff. And specifically this project in Your Dreams is
about two kids who end up going into the dream
world more or less and like they.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
I actually showed this a while ago. Hold on, let
me get it. So we come prepared for the show leeds, gentleman,
that's what we do here. This guy right here, yeah,
this is the.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Main character played by Craig Robinson. Think like a mushoe.
His name is belooney Tony. This was the little boy
in the movie. This is his favorite stuffed animal, uh,
and it comes to life in the dream world and whatnot.
So he gets called blooney Tony because the kid would
stuff baloney into the giraffe's mouth.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Over and over.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
So he was So he's got this pooch of a
stomach because this is all rotted meat yep, yep, just
inside this stuffed animal.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
In this one.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Yeah, so I don't know the full stuff because I
went I went to previously for this. They did a
they did like a preview screening, like not not the
actual movie, just like a couple of scenes and then
a chance to talk to Craig Robinson and uh the
director Alex.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
I believe it's Alex. Okay, check that.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
But but yeah, but tonight is the actual Red Carpet premiere.
I'm a little jealous of the kids because the the
notes for wardrobe was cocktail chic cheek for the adults,
but any of the younger viewers can come in their
favorite pajamas with their favorite stuff in and want I said,
(03:16):
what if I'm young at heart? You know, like that's
why I've got This isn't for like NFL shit, This
is this is like one of those like Underreye thing
like the this is actually the Rocks brand.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
This this works really well.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
But it's I know, I know, hey man, look the
man who's put his name behind some good products. I'll
give him that much.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
But I use the shampoo and his haircut show all
the time. I agree, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
So like this is just you know, get the bags
and so I can walk and be like, hey man,
can I just roll them my pajamas?
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Like you know?
Speaker 2 (03:45):
But instead, you know, we were rocking it. So h
Kristin is getting ready now. Thank y'all for doing the
show a little early, just so I can get there
on time, you know, especially because I've taken kristin the
premieres before. I don't think I've ever taken to a
red carpet, So the idea of even being able to
take like photos on the step and repeat, we were like, Okay,
let's get there on time so we can do.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
All of that and have the full experience totally totally understandable.
So I love that. Yeah, that's great, So have a
good times. It's good to work those red carpets. We
got so much to talk to you here though on
the show, and thank you everybody who's joining us a
little bit early. As Winston said, we can usually go
at four, but we're going to three today. We're gonna
get into some stuff going on in the world of
Marvel and the world of DC. We're gonna get into
(04:27):
some interesting conversation about Sydney Sweeney and some Oscars predictions possibly,
and we're gonna get into of course, the World series
came from last night, the NFL Week eight action that
happened over the weekend, so so much to jump into here,
and of course the streamline of super Chats are open.
Sending you love, sending your support as we go along
through the show. And if you haven't subscribed to the channel,
make sure you subscribe down below and hit that belt
(04:49):
button as we go along as well. All right with
this is we've got limited time. Let's ship into it.
Let's jump into a Daredevil Born Again conversation here. So
much happening for this show as it's about to, you know,
kind of get going, and we're going to see some
footage coming soon. Of course, we saw Jessica Jones. They're
being officially confirmed. A lot of people think the whole
Defender's crew is come back. We so see. But this
(05:10):
has an interesting situation that popped up an interning story here.
Charlie Cox told screen Rants just a couple of days
ago what he revealed what exactly saved the show. Remember
in the past, they had shot season one, most of
season one, and then they stopped midway and turned it
all around and brought in a new production team. We're
going to do all the episode season two. This is
(05:32):
what Charlie said about it. Because he's gave credit to
John Burnhall for being the reason why this happening said.
What I heard was when they were looking at the
show and editing it and putting it together, that scene
made it by one day, and that's the Punisher scene.
They showed that scene to some of the high rocks
at Disney and Marvel and they were like, this is great.
This is the show we want to make. And that
was part of the narrative behind shifting direction and continue
(05:54):
what we've done previously, which is, you know, tell all
kinds of a very dark, sinister version of Daredevil. John
Bernthal wrote most of that scene as well, so we
are very grateful for him to him rather for potentially
leading us back on track. So that's crazy to get
love to John Berthal from Charlie Cox, who is the
lead of the series. You don't usually see that in
(06:16):
Hollywood wisdom.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Yeah you don't, But I think there is a different
level of respect and or humility of people that end
up playing iconic characters that they get associated with. So
it's not to say that Charlie Cox hasn't acted in
anything else, but if I'm being honest, I don't know
anything else that he's been in.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Yeah, I know him as Daredevil.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
So let me let me take a quick look and
make sure there's not some magical thing.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
He was in Boardwalk Empire, He's been in a number
of he was in this great series called kin which
that you've got to see here in the States. But yeah,
he's a fantastic actor with a lot of experience for sure.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Well and to that point, like I give him credit,
but if we're keeping it a buck, like there's definitely
some people that you get a role and that is
what you're known for. Yeah, you know what I'm saying.
It's not to say that like you haven't done other
great things, but that is if you go and look
at it now. Boardwalk Empire is old enough of a
(07:17):
show and you know, obviously did decently well that it
ran for a couple of years, but it wasn't like
HBO's biggest you know what I'm saying, Like when in
the world of a game, seriously, in the world of
the Game of Thrones, it was.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Right after the Sopranos, and it was a big deal.
But you're right, it didn't achieve the Sopranos level of achievement,
but it certainly was a respect.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Like if you if I told you right now to
name five HBO shows that's not gonna be, Like, because
we're talking about it right now. You might, but that's
not gonna be you know what I'm saying. Whereas he
became Daredevil and the show became such a massive hit,
people were clamoring for it, and not just the show
that was on Netflix, but then to revive it and
(08:00):
have him remain the character for the MCU proper and
all that kind of stuff. That is that is who
he is just associated as. Is that right? When you
find a role like that, you have a tendency to
be a lot more humble and to be the person
that will do whatever it takes to let that grow.
I think about Mariska Hargatea and how serious she has
(08:23):
taken Olivia Benson for twenty five twenty six however it
started without ninety nine. It's in twenty six seasons, but
it started in ninety nine, and how serious she took
that role and has throughout the entire span of the
show it continues to has become one of the biggest
advocates for domestic violence and sexual assault and all that
(08:44):
kind of stuff as far as like for survivors and
victims and things like that, Like has made that her
whole outside of that show is that's what her foundation
is focused on. So when you have that, I am
not surprised that Charlie did that. Tom Holland is an
A list movie, but the way he treats Spider Man
as very similar, where he's like, we're not doing it
unless we have the right thing. I'm willing to listen
(09:05):
to any and everybody that's gonna bring the right stuff
to it, et cetera, et cetera. The way Robert Dunney
Junior was very protective of Iron Man and was even
protective about coming back into this being doom it just
needed to be done correctly and that kind of feeling.
So I'm not surprised by this at all. And I'm
certainly not surprised that Burnhal would have ideas that would
be good because same thing, he is so fall in
(09:25):
love with the Punisher character. Yeah, he's also gonna protect
it at all costs as well.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
Yeah, And I think this is a really interesting thing.
The how can I say this, the growth of John
Burnhal within the Marvel universe as this character of Punishment.
The fans are the ones who clamored for Charlie Cox
to come back as Daredevil because they loved him as
Daredevil in the Netflix series, and you're right, like that,
that's what he's known for, right. Adam Jimenez mentioned Stardust.
I love that movie, Neil Geiman movie. He's the lead
(09:51):
in that movie with Claire Danes. But it was Daredevil
that put him on the map. I loved him in
Bordewak Cambire. He's not the lead, that's Bushemi. And so
you have these things that go, Okay, where do you
establish yours? Al well, he established himself with Daredevil. That's
what Tom hollis, you said, Spider Man, same thing. That's
what he's going to be known for. That'll be on
his tombstone. First line in is a obituary, which is great,
(10:13):
you know, and he's not it. But Burnhal has slowly
become started to become this kind of force behind the scenes.
His writing is he's co writing. I think he co
wrote the special that's coming for the Punisher. And consider
the fact that he wrote that scene from the fourth episode,
that's the scene that Charlie's referencing. That tells you that
this guy is getting a little space within the Marvel
universe to become more of a force. He's taken it
(10:36):
upon himself to not just be an actor, but to
actually write these things. And I think that speaks volumes too.
And here's Charlie giving him credit for in essence writing
the scene, shooting the scene, performing the scenes so well
that it woke people up at the right time that
they needed to approach this differently. And so I'm happy
to see this, and I'm happy that Charlie, as I said,
(10:56):
as the lead of a show, is willing to give
grace to on Bernhal and give him love for what
he did.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
And and that's I think what always gets me hype
as an actor myself. I prefer to see actors who
aren't just in it for a check, that they are
genuinely about making the art, so whether that is protecting
the story, protecting the character, giving vital input when they
(11:25):
when you know actors branch off into directing or producing, I.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
Actually write it.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
I love seeing that because that means that you were
a part of the process and not just.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
A tool to make it go.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
And it means that you really do care about your
craft beyond just an absorbitent paycheck that you are most
like a getting if you're in one of these major projects.
So what that speaks to for me is the growth
of Burnhal, who has always felt like he's been a
major part of the creative process. But when you hear
a bro he like wrote this thing and like the
(11:59):
higher ups are listening to him, yeah, it means he
is jacked in and that go that makes sense as
to why he has been really the perfect portrayal for
the character has been because he cares so much that
he's given his all to it.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
Yeah, yeah, and you know you get this. I know
for me personally. One of my friends is a reader
for a casting office and I've heard stories about John
Berenthal for years and that John is one of these
guys that comes in. He's very respectful to all the
people who read with him, who are associates or fellow
actors if they're looking to do some kind of matching.
(12:37):
And I've never heard one negative thing about him, and
that he's always kind of like looking at the thing,
researching the page and go, Okay, what do you need
me to say? What are the motivations? What are they're
trying to create here? And he talks with the casting
director afterwards to be like, Okay, what were you looking
to get from this scene from this character. So he
gets involved in this and he loves it clearly, And
I think this is a guy that you might initially
(12:59):
look at him and go, I don't know, he seems
like a character actor. He'll he'll he'll work like a
Frank grill O type thing, but clearly there's much more
going on. And look, Frank's got some things going on too,
but like John burnhal really has these things going on.
Hosts a podcast, writing this stuff, shutly, be directing very soon,
more and more performing this kind of thing. So he
is He's got this kind of energy to him, a
creative energy to him that you might not initially think
(13:21):
when you look at him. But when you start to
read about all this stuff and see how people are
gravitating to him and wanting him to do more and more,
that tells you that people enjoy working with him and
that he gets what he's doing and he's driven. And
I think that's a positive in their business when so
many people are caught up in making sure they're the
center of the attention. Here's a guy who really wants
to make the piece as best as it can be
(13:42):
and that'bsolutely.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Absolutely, And that's that's my favorite thing by far is
when you have like what ao at Aberri just directed
it an episode or two of The Bear this season.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Anytime I see an actor go direct an episode of
the show they've been on for a while, so like
they obviously know oh the show and now again flexing
those muscles in a different way. In my heart just
fucking sings, man, because I you know, we all have
our various reasons that we like love movies, love TV
and all that kind of stuff. And again, for me,
I think it comes specifically from I do just love
(14:17):
listening to and watching awesome stories. But I have always
been and always have felt this calling to being a storyteller.
So I love it when somebody decides I'm gonna put
another tool in my tool belt. I'm gonna challenge myself
in a new way. It's the same way when you
watch an athlete where you go, yeah, man, you know
(14:37):
lebron he anytimes he needs to go and get a bucket,
he'll drive the lane and do whatever. But then it's like, yo,
he realized that he was getting a little bit older,
he learned how to start hitting like long range jumpers, Like,
that's the type of thing you go. Damn, you love
what you do and you were pushing yourself to live.
I love that shit.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
Right, Yeah, Lebron went in the off season and figured
out how to do post moves like all these things
that every criticis.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
Wimby right now, Wimby is probably already the greatest player
in the league. That's insane. That's insane to say. And
I heard someone give that take, and then I went
and watched the highlights back of the Spurs MAVs game
to start the season. Oh yeah, bro, he clearly hung
out with the dream with the kim Elijah Wan. Yeah,
as he was pulling all of his moves, his spins,
(15:22):
his all sorts of shit, and he was already insane.
He already has handles of somebody that plays point guard
in a much smaller bodied frame, right, and now he
knows how to post you up. He's already playing crazy
defense because of that. Damn Wings fan, Like, the only
thing that always makes me nervous watching him is because
he's that tall. His limbs are just all kind of gang.
I am just so worried someone's gonna snap. I don't
(15:42):
want that you know, knock on wood. But I just
watch him and I'm like, how does that work? Physically? Like,
physics wise, how does that work?
Speaker 1 (15:50):
Well, these are the same complaints people had about all
concerns rather people had about Steph Curry. Remember, people thought
his ankles were made of glass, and he found a
way through training and through uh finding people who can
help him get stronger to last in the league. As
long as he didn't win multiple championships. I'm sure Wenby
will have the same situation. You know, San Antonio is
not known for having chronically injured players. They are really
good on that side of things, so we will see
(16:12):
for sure. But yeah, so and in the end, I
think this is another thing to another positive feather to
put in the cap for people who are looking forward
to Born Against season two Daredevil and seeing if it's
going to be as good as those episodes teased at
the beginning at the end of season one. So I
love this as well. But let's move out the world
of Marvel, let's move into the world of DC. Let's
(16:32):
talk about this once then then this is stuff going
on just from Lanterns. We've got some update on Lanterns.
A couple of things that went on here Aaron Pierre
in a men's health profile. As if you don't feel
bad enough about working on here's Aaron Pierre and a
men's health profile. He revealed that he was shooting Rebel
Ridge when the news that he would no longer star
in Blade came his way. He said, I remember being
(16:55):
cast in Blade feeling elated, but they took a step
in a different creative direction that was no longer a
part of it. But he is now obviously going to
be in Lanterns and show runner Chris Monday describes the
upcoming series as much of a buddy cop shows a
superhero show, and he said, our show is in a
lot of ways about replacement, when someone should step aside,
and when is it time for the next person to
(17:17):
take the rings. That push and pull between those two
characters is really important. So much of the power that
John has is by not taking de bait. Understand that
you lose your power for you're yelling and screaming. That's
what we're trying to convey. He knows he belongs, so
he doesn't have to overcompensate. There's a real balance there
that's just innately inside of Aaron he's big, he's an
intimidating presence just physically, but there's a softness to him.
(17:39):
There's a thoughtfulness, and you can't teach that. That's some
fascinating description of an actor from a show runner like
Chris Munday. What are your thoughts on this stuff that
they're saying about how they're approaching Lanterns itself and how
Aaron Pierre is approaching the role of John Stewart.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
I mean, I just have to start off. You know,
you know Aaron Pierre that's moved us out.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
I am.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
I am as straight as a narrow bro, and that
man makes me question things.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
That is a sexy man.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
He is. It's in the eyes, bro, It's in the
fucking eyes. All that being said, I talked about Rebel Ridge.
I thought that the I actually thought that that would
have been an A plus movie if it weren't for
the ending. I thought everything that was happening up until
the last five to ten minutes, I was like, damn, yeah,
(18:30):
he get him son, ooh, you evil bastard. I was like,
this is fantastic. And then the ending happened. I said,
what the fuck? So if I'm getting the same energy
and the same kind of of you know, commanding presence,
but like you said, the softness that's there, Because that's
the interesting thing about John Stewart is, you know, obviously
(18:52):
he is this marine. He's a hard ass, but he
does have a softer side to him that comes out.
I need to see hard ass marine most of the
time and then let that shine through because of a
love interest or because of you know, care for the neighborhood.
Like I'm most familiar with stories with John Stewart, either
books where he is trying to wrap his mind around
(19:16):
being essentially a space cop having come from the hood
and seen horrible stuff, or the Justice League cartoon, the
Justice League Justice like Gun Limited cartoons. Same thing, hard ass,
except when it came to hot girl who he loved,
but then went back to hardest when he was betrayed
by her. Like you know what I'm saying, I'm trying
to see that and he definitely has the chops to
pull that off.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
Yeah, I think so too. And I love the fact
that this is an interesting approach to this show because
everyone's saying, oh, it's a grounded shoe, it's a mirid
of mystery, it's a true detective thing. But now we
hear from Monday that it's about exploring when is it
time to let go of power? When is it time
to hand over the reins of something and let go
of the position that you had. And that's a fascinating
(19:57):
It's clear that means how Jordan and John Stewart, how
Jordan's been doing for a long time, It's time for
John Stewart to take over. What are the battles between
the two. And I love that he's kind of like
going against the cliche where you would have them yelling
at each other like you won't let go, you're not
ready yet, but you need to let go, but you're
not ready yet.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
You know.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
It's more a matter of like he's got to deal
with how how Jordan is dealing with losing his position
because John Stewart is now moving into that position. Right. Well,
last night we saw Aaron Rodgers, or a couple of
days ago, we saw Aaron Rodgers versus Jordan Love, essentially
the same fucking thing that the packers realized it was
time to move on. Aaron was mad at them for
(20:35):
moving on to Jordan Love, essentially John Stewart, and they
moved him out and he went to play for Pittsburg
and look how shitty.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
But the well first to New York and that, you know,
New York can probably tell us about how well that went.
But but that the thing about that that's funny to me,
I'm like, how mad can you get brody? Because think
about it, you you're you're your girl that you out
with the Packers. Yeah, she did the same thing with
(21:03):
her ex, so why are you confused? Like when and
put you on the back burner when she was still
with Haman's And then he started acting all funny and
then she said, you know what, I'm done with you.
I got this new young thing I'm gonna go roll with.
And so then they did the same thing. I remember
the night when Jordan Love got drafted and how mad
apparently Aaron Rodgers and I was like, brody again, the
(21:27):
same thing was.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Done with your start to your career.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
But the truth was it was the right choice because
even if he had had an MVP season I want
to say, a year two years prior to him leaving, Yeah,
it just time was up. Like you you you were
declining too quickly. And he's not playing at an elite
level right now. He's playing good. He's playing about middle
of the pack, but it's enough of what the Steelers
need to be where they're at. That's a diversion over
(21:55):
the NFL if we swing it back over to LANDNS.
What this is? This is interesting to me about It's
maybe not a shouting thing, but it makes me think
that we're gonna end up with the hal Jordan that
goes parallax on usybe, because if it's this idea of
not letting go of the power that's kicking in, that's
the fear of not letting go of the power, and
Jordan typically whenever he had the world goes sideways on
(22:17):
him is when he got real blood thirsty and started
killing for rings and ultimately went Parallax and all that
kind of stuff and became the villain. So I would
not be surprised if I don't think we solve it
by the end of this season. Right. I don't know
if it's a mini series or if they're gonna do
multiple seasons, but I would not be surprised if Kyle
Chandler slowly devolves into the darkness and by the end
(22:39):
of the show becomes a main antagonist we have to
deal with. If not in the next season of Lanterns,
in whatever we're doing going forward with a DCU.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
Yeah, I would love that because I think, you know,
the thing that's fun about great comic movies is when
you get great actress to play the villains, right, And
I think it would be something really interesting. If you've
got a Lex Luthor, you've got a Parallax, you've got
a Brainiac, You've got all these villains on the DC
side of things who are formidable, they need to be formidable,
(23:09):
and damn good actors lining up against your heroes who
are also formidable and damn good actors. That could lead
to an incredible battle as you get down the road,
if you do Crisis on Infinite Earth or whatever, it's
going to be fascinating to see if that's where they
all lead to, if James Gunn gets enough time to
do all that. So yeah, I'd love that idea as well.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
Yeah, and yes, I am aware that the main reason
he became Parallax was because the city got destroyed. It
depends on what story you're talking about and the injustice
side of things. He doesn't go Parallax, but he does
go Yellow Lantern. He got the same thing he starts
going with Superman and ruling by fear because now he's
terrified actually stand up for goodness himself. Like there's a
number of different ways that he's either become a yellow
lantern or become parallax if they decide to do it
(23:50):
this particular way, because they've implied that he's got his
Carol here, maybe Carol ends up, oh yeah, they're dying,
or ends up a star was sarsaf any number of
things that could push him to the dark side, and
especially if the idea is bro it's time to hang
it up. It is time to let it go and
(24:11):
to pass it on to the next generation. And we've
talked about this with the political talks we've had, you
know how agist I've become of this idea of people
not letting go of power and passing it on to
the next generation, and not because you are then hampering
them from being able to grow on their own, like
you were not coming to terms with the fact that
your time is not infinite.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
And I know that's a scary thing.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
It's something that I have to deal with every single day,
even just in my late thirties. I can only imagine
what it's like in your sixties or seventies or eighties,
et cetera. But I think that that would be a
really interesting story to dive into, because that is kind
of what you have already looked at with a vast
majority of the DCU stories we've started to tell. The
(24:52):
refusal of acceptance by Rick flag of metas being a thing,
same thing with Lex Luthor, with metas being a thing
idea of your time is up, how thank you for
your service and not accepting that. I think that that's
going to be a consistent through line for a lot
of these stories, which will be interesting.
Speaker 1 (25:11):
Especially as we see a president who's teasing about not
being able to go of power and fabricating a third
term somehow by some legal loophole or whatever. You know. So, yeah,
the idea of hanging on to power and the terribleness
it can lead to as well. Yeah, it'll be interesting
to see how they explore that in the world of
dc and lanterns. Oh buton is Aaron's here? Now? Aaron
(25:33):
has something to say. I heard you going to a
premiere man.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
Hey, yo, hey.
Speaker 1 (25:40):
They tell christ and stay home, man, stake me with
you to premiere? Man.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
Hey, that's mufasa bro, like what you're doing? Like what
are you doing to me? Like, come on, man, come
on man, Like it's not even like that. And yes,
somehow I.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
Don't like that even like that. But listen, listen, let's
move on to because you're going to a premiere, let's
move on to some movie stuff as well. Let's talk
about this man. You got to see Christy last night
with Sydney Sweeney playing the role of Christy Martin. I
just got the screener today so I will be as well,
(26:14):
just before we got on the air, so I will
be watching it tonight or tomorrow at some point here
at the house. But a lot of people have come
out of the movie praising Sidney Sweety, including my coast
on the Hot Mike, Jeff Snyder and other people, and
saying she might be a shoe in to be nominated
for Best Actress. So tell us your thoughts on the
movie if you can, without spoilsport, because I know you're
(26:36):
probably doing a review, But what your thoughts on Yeah,
it's all good.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
I think that it was an incredibly well done movie. Okay,
it took you on a roller coaster ride, it really
I didn't know anything really about Christy Martin. Okay, I
had heard the name, I had actually heard Christy Salters
more than I had heard Christy Martin, gotcha, And so
that that's when I started to connect the dots a
little bit. But I didn't know her story, and so
getting to know her story through the movie, I thought
(27:02):
that the director and the writer did a very good
job of giving us vital information helping us understand the times.
For those who don't know, that Christy Salter's aka Christy
Martin is gay but was closeted most of her career
and if anything, was very vulgar in the way that
she talked to women, But that's because she grew up
in West Virginia. She grew up with a very conservative family.
She was told multiple times, you got to stop doing
(27:24):
that shit. So this person's a family man. If you're
gonna work with them, you need to stop it. Just whatever.
So all of that is very well told, and I
think that if you wanted, if you wanted a biopick
about your life done, this is the type of shit
you would want to see. And specifically for those that
don't know, like her husband was not only abusive but
(27:46):
attempted to kill her at one point, and so you
have the scenario as well of watching that play out.
But what I think was very powerful is the focus
on the film really was about how she was a
fight even in those dark moments, how her perseverance helps
her push through. All that being said, I think what
(28:09):
this movie did. I was hoping that it was going
to elevate my thoughts on Sidney Sweeney's acting capabilities. I
think what it actually did is just reaffirmed what I've
always felt. I have always felt that when she needs
to go to an emotional high, I actually think she's
one of the best to do it. She is very
like I think about her and euphoria and how insanely
distraught that she was the entire time, and the breakdowns
(28:32):
and the passion and all that kind of stuff. And
when I see that in the various movies and TV
shows that she's in that works.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
Where I have a.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Problem with Sidney Sweeney is her mids to her low
so standard conversation or whatever else. That is where she
starts to lose me. So like a lot of times
during this movie, I just didn't believe it. I just
didn't believe her like the moments where she's really impassioned.
She's in the middle of a fight, she's talking about
(29:03):
getting ready for a fight. I was like, oh shit,
she's a fighter, bro. Like the combination she's throwing, or
the desperation to get you know, promoters to take her seriously.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
I was like, holy shit, she's there.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
But then she'd be having a standard conversation with somebody
and I would literally come fully out of the movie
be like what what the fuck? Or like, cause, West Virginian.
So there's this accent, the accent is there. Sometimes the
accent's not there. Other times, like it was just these
things where I was like, I think she did the
best to her ability. She reminds me a lot of
(29:37):
you see a quarterback, you see a picture, you see
a guard that like the things that like I think of,
like like James Harden or James Harden scoring all day,
crazy threes, what the hell?
Speaker 1 (29:51):
But then not really playing defense.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
Yeah, not not necessarily the person you go to for
the last shot. Per se can and he does have
that dog in him, but like at times his temper
can get in the way.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
Stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
I'm not saying she has a TEMPERTENTI or nothing, but
but that that level of missing in that acting ability,
it just hurts, Like I think about anybody but you,
Glenn Powell was essentially carrying the whole team on his
back due like he was acting down to her in
my opinion, except for when she was super heightened. When
she was super heightened, it worked. When they were just
(30:26):
supposed to be ansing back and forth. That was all
Glenn Powell and unfortunately in this I think she will
get the nomination because it's a biopick, because of the
stuff that she does do well, but I don't think
that she would win. I think that there have been
other performances that could that could beat her out. I
think Ben Foster might be a shoe, and not only
for the nomination but to win.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
He was a fucking creep. He was infuriating, he was terrifying.
The roller coaster ride that I went on ended up
being less about Christie and more about Jim Martin heard
the husband played by Ben Foster, who the number of
times I wanted to punch through the screen and hit
(31:07):
him at his just fucking just goober ass, creepy ass,
little motherfucking face. I wanted to slap the people around
for not helping Christy out. I was like, oh, Ben,
you did a good job, bro, Like I hate you.
He crushed it. And so I said this to you
in a text last night. It feels like I'm watching
dream Girls and Beyonce thinks this is how she's gonna
(31:28):
get her oscar. But Jennifer Hudson, we got to actually
see is the true star here. I think the same
thing is gonna happen with this film.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
Personally. You think Ben Foster is the Jennifer hud I.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
Think Ben Foster is Jennifer Hudson, and Sydney is Beyonce,
and so yes, Sydney is out here promoting it at
the same as Beyonce was promoting dream Girls. But this
became the vehicle for Jennifer Hudson to become Jennifer Hudson.
I think this is going to Like, Ben Foster has
done a lot of really good work over the years,
but I think this is the thing that he goes,
Oh dude, He's gonna start winning awards just because of
this performance.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
Next, I think he was nominated for Three to Yuma,
where he also played a pretty pretty villainous guy. A
few years ago, and he's a great actor, you know,
uh put the you know, people forget he was angel
in X Men Last Stand so but there have been
so many great performances from him through the years. So
it could be an interesting thing. Could it be him
versus Sean Penn for the type for the best supporting
(32:21):
actor Oscar So that'll be fun to see.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
I wonder if they would give him supporting or if
they would give him lead.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
Well, it's called Christy. I'd be hard to think that
they would give it lead to anyone else but her.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
Fair because it's always about how you submit yourself as well.
But he is so firmly cemented in here, like, yes
it is Christian, is about Christy. You meet him quickly,
and because of the husband and everything else, it's it
almost feels like what's love got to do with it?
And the fact that like Obat and Lords Fishburne, even
(32:57):
though it's a Tina Turner movie, I was just as
like you could could make the argument that their co
leads here, they will probably submit him for supporting actor,
but he has a very high chance of winning that shit.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
Yeah, you've crushed it all looking forward to it, and
it's gonna be interesting to see how people respond to
the film, because we've seen Winston over the last few
weeks like these kind of smaller films, the more character pieces,
they don't they're not knocking it out of the park
at the box office. Even the good ones with good
reviews isn't doing well or aren't doing well. Rather, so
it'll be interesting to see this because this one doesn't
(33:31):
have like a big studio behind it. It's Black Bear Pictures.
It's independently financed, independently being distributed, So they will be
interesting how much marketing there is, how much people will
go see it, and will critics want to maybe put
down certain preconceptions about Sydney Sweeney and nominate her for
an Oscar.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
It's oscar bait, like let let's get let's let's get in.
Let's call it the spade of spade man, like the
story they chose. The things that she did do acting wise,
yeah she did phenomenally, I can admit that, but it's
it's it's a it's a a two eighty five, three
(34:12):
touchdown but five turnover game that yeah you won, but
damn that was at times bad, bro, Like I sometimes
I was like, how did you throw that one too,
Like what like that is what I found myself doing.
When she was throwing an eighty yard bomb for a time,
I'm like, what precision? But then when it was a
quick slant and she got picked off for a pick six,
(34:34):
I'm like, you know better than that? Like so like
for me, it would be those moments again where like.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
She's upset, so her.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
Accent is fully gone, Like it is fully gone, and
that's the only point where like I then look to
both the director and the editor and I'm like, how
did you not catch that? Or are you telling me
that she in those moments she just couldn't maintain it,
you know what I'm saying, In which came okay, So
that that's all it just there there, that was That was,
(35:05):
That was where this roller coaster ride of a of
a movie went. I genuinely thought it was a good movie,
and I left, but I left conflicted because I felt
that her performance was uneven at times.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
So she's like the Justin Fields to Ben Foster's Ben
Foster's Breist Hall, who's doing all the work for the
Jets to help them win. But Justin is one taking
the credit at the end of the game, which is.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
That's kind of why I went with like the the
five interception thing. I was thinking to Jared Goff, I
was honestly thinking of and Jared Goff is ball and
he's balling, but when he's and it's more that, where
like Ben Foster was Bosonic and Knuckles, he was Gibbs,
and Montgomery bro just out here Bounder and Almond Ross Brown,
he was all three.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
I like it.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
I like it.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
I like it. Is there any other oscars talking where
you wanted to talk a little Oscar stuff? Was everything
else you want to kind of highlight? Because I I
know I've seen some stuff. I saw House of Dynamite
this week. I liked it. I know it means that
Jeff and I are going to have fight on the
hot mic about it, but I really enjoyed it. I
thought it was damn good. And I like the ending.
I like ambiguous endings, and I thought I thought Frankenstein
(36:12):
was stellar. I think Oscar Isaac should absolutely be in contention.
I also think Jacob Alordi should be in contention for
Best Supporting Actor in that movie. He was excellent. Christoph
Waltz was great. My only complaint was me a goth
who I thought was miscast in the role, and then
the role wasn't wasn't as strong as I was hoping
the role would be. But yeah, but I thought Frankenstein
(36:35):
should be in contention for Best Picture even I thoroughly,
thoroughly enjoyed that. If you guys haven't seen it, I'm
sure it's coming to Netflix in the next week or two.
I think guys are gonna enjoy a lot of people
seeing in the theater already enjoying it as well. And
what do you got?
Speaker 2 (36:47):
Yeah, I mean, just looking, I've pulled up varieties like
early predictions, Yeah, which I guess they put out on
the twenty third. Yeah, yeah, already saying that the Best
Picture nominees will most likely be Avadt Fire and Ash Frankenstein, Hamnet.
It was just an accident, Marty Supreme, one battle after another,
sentimental value, Sinners, Trained Dreams, and Wicked for good. Yeah,
(37:11):
look look it for good for sure, based off of
the stuff that I've heard, and already what the first
Wicked did? Sinners for sure? One battle after another?
Speaker 1 (37:19):
For sure? Did you see Marty Supreme? I have not
seen that yet. No, it hasn't screened here yet.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
I haven't.
Speaker 1 (37:24):
I haven't seen that.
Speaker 2 (37:25):
I don't think that as good as Christy was, I
don't think Christy will be in that conversation. Let me
actually pull because I've been taking a you know, media
twenty twenty five list.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
Here.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
Let me see if there's anything else I think that
got missed.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
That comes out this week and a lot of people, Yeah,
could be in contention for something like Emma Stone.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
That in both and that and what's his name, dude,
Jesus christ how is he so good?
Speaker 1 (37:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (37:55):
And also at the same time, like there's nothing. I
would never say anything about his ability. His ability is
like a bar like I don't get how good he is.
But it's just interesting to me because I die hard
fan of the Friday Nightlight Show and I just think
of him as as as Lance.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
I'm just like, it's like Ryan Gosling. You see him
and remember the Titans, and you go that ain't gonna
be the big lead going forward in the future in Hollywood,
And damn if it wasn't, you just never know it.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
It's absolutely crazy to me. But let's see of the
stuff that might sneak in here.
Speaker 1 (38:31):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (38:33):
I actually think that there is a world potentially where
Channing Tatum gets a nomination for roof Man. Maybe, I
don't know if I don't, I don't know if it'll
get the Oscar nomination, but he might get, like, say.
Speaker 1 (38:47):
A Golden Globe, oh nomination. Yeah, man, I don't, I don't.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
I don't think that he'll get the Oscar, but I
do think he could get the Golden Globe. I'm trying
to think who else here off.
Speaker 1 (38:58):
Of Supreme, DiCaprio for One Battle after Another, possibly Ethan
Hawk for Blue Moon, which I haven't seen. I don't know.
I think it might be out now, Michael be Jordan
for Sinners, and then Bagner Mora, the guy from Civil War.
Speaker 2 (39:13):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
And the Dope Thief a dope fiend, dope thief, sorry,
dope thief on Apple TV for The Secret Agent, which
also isn't out yet either, So that could be interesting
to see what.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
Yeah, it's also interesting to see what they're calling already
for these potential winners. Yeah, what they're calling one Battle
after another to take both picture director picture and director. Yeah,
I would think they're saying Timothy for Marty Supreme huh
for actress, They're going Jesse Buckley for Hamnet Cynthia or
Evo for Wicked for Good, Kate Hudson for Songs Sung
(39:47):
Blue Renade, Rensvey for sentimental value, and then Amenda Sea
Freed for the Testament of Anne Lee. Yeah, I haven't
heard of any of those except for Wicked for Good
and Hamnet, So interesting to see ultimately where that goes
well as.
Speaker 1 (40:03):
Blow is the one with Hugh Jackman where he's a
Neil Diamond impersonate and him and him and Kate Hudson
come together. The premiere was a couple of days ago,
and it's gotten a lot of positive reviews out of
the premiere, so I'm curious to see if it really
works because I'm a I'm a big Meal Diamond fan,
so to see this kind of part of the movie
and Kate Hudson, it's interesting. Clayton over there at Variety
(40:24):
was like, have we been underappreciating Kate Hudson because of
what you can do here? And I'm in my mind
of like, no, I think we. I think the public
appreciates actors exactly where they're at most of the time, correctly,
and that actors get better as they get older. That's
kind of how it works, Just like athletes. Just like
anything else, the more experience they get, if they're remotely
(40:45):
good at what they do, they get better, you know.
And I think Kate Hudson has finally kind of achieved
good actress status, just like Jennifer Conley did, just like
Kim Basinger. Did you know Conley Colly career opportunities. It's
a lot of labyrinth is frivolous stuff. Fucking Requiem for
a Dream is when she showed up and everyone's like,
oh shit, you know, yeah, so what then?
Speaker 2 (41:07):
Supporting actor, they've got Benisa del Toro for One Battle,
Paul mess and that's Sean Penn for one Battle, Andrew
Scott for BlueMoon and Stellar Scars Guard for sentimental value.
I think Sean Penn sweeps that easily, and I think you.
Speaker 1 (41:19):
Can replace see I haven't seen the other ones.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
I loved Benicio del Toro, but I honestly think you
could knock him off for Ben Foster. Yeah, if I
only know, let's assume they're correct on all of these
one way or the other. I'm pulling Benicio and putting
in Ben Ben Is that good?
Speaker 1 (41:38):
In my opinion? Tell me where the acting is and
what Benicio is doing one Ball Left. Look, I get it,
the seems are great. He is a good performer, and
he's playing this character in a really interesting way to
off to play off of what DiCaprio is doing, who's
a manic energy, But Benicio is like chill the whole
(42:00):
movie and then even that moment with the and he
gets that moment with the drunk driving thing. That's a
great moment, right, But can you tell me he's delivering
a powerful performance? Like I think Sean Penn is the
one from that movie.
Speaker 2 (42:13):
That's that's exactly why Sean Penn fully steals the show.
And there I feel like every actor in that movie
was fantastic.
Speaker 1 (42:20):
Oh yeah, Sean Penn was in another stratosphere.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
It is again, and when you go to sports, it's
this idea of like, yo, the team is buzzing, but
like Patrick Mahomes is just like, yeah, what the hell?
Like you know what I mean, That's what this feels like. Right,
So I think there Sean Penn will probably end up
winning that. But I do think Ben Foster will steal
one of these, and it most likely if I had
to pick based off of what I've currently seen, I
(42:46):
would take up Anicio.
Speaker 1 (42:47):
Yeah, Karen brings up Paul Mascal for Hamleet. I didn't
know Mescal was going to be looked at for best
Supporting Actor, but that's what he's looked at on Variety.
So gonna be curious to see what Hamlet is like
because I'm looking forward to it as a massive shake.
I'm looking forward to seeing this thing. Yeah he good?
Is this film good? With Jesse Buckley? Uh worth all the.
Speaker 2 (43:06):
Hype absolutely supporting actress. I am sorely disappointed in Variety
for picking Ariana Grande over Amy Madigan at and for
Weapons for the Witch?
Speaker 1 (43:20):
Are you are you kidding me?
Speaker 2 (43:22):
Like, Ariana Grande was very good in Wicked. I would
never take that away from her. I'm sure she's just
as good in Wicked for good. But one, Cynthia Rivo
is definitely the stronger of the two as far as
watching that move. They're both great, but she's the stronger
of the two. But two, what Amy Madigan did was insane,
(43:43):
like genuinely terrifying and infuriating, the same way I thought
about Ben Foster and Christie. But this is then on
a supernatural level, So like I I think it's not
close The only thing that maybe throws a wrench in
that is the respect that horror doesn't always get similar.
Speaker 1 (43:59):
To comedy issue with weapons.
Speaker 2 (44:00):
Yeah, you're right, but but she dude for how terrifying
she was, and then couple that with how hilarious she
is at the end. I won't ruin it for people
that haven't seen Weapons yet and go check out my reaction.
It should be trying to get it out by Halloween.
Speaker 1 (44:18):
But I I.
Speaker 2 (44:21):
That final scene with her, bro Holy shit, I was
dying laughing.
Speaker 1 (44:29):
Last night on TikTok. I was rolling around TikTok and
someone put that ending to the music from the ending
of Ferris Bueller when he's jumping through all the fences.
Oh my god. I laughed for like ten minutes. It's
the they laid the song down perfectly. I just see
her jumping through all the doors, and you're that it's genius.
(44:50):
So yeah, I agree. I think she should have been nominated.
The fact that everyone is every every gay party I
see on TikTok, there is one person dressed as her
from Weapons who is leading the day answers. That tells
me everything. There were a comic con the other day
or one of the comic cons woman dressed as her
and then she had four other guys running behind her
as the kids. Hopefully it catches more fire, and then
(45:15):
people look at her for the for the win.
Speaker 2 (45:18):
Well, I'll tell you, I'll tell you, I'll go back
to supporting actor for a second. Another immediate just slap
in the face. And it's kind of infuriating the fact
that Delroy Lindo was not stirred for Sinners because both
Delroy and oh my god, what is the name of O'Connor,
the one that played that played the villain in which
(45:41):
one in Sinners?
Speaker 1 (45:42):
Oh Jack O'Connell, mich O'Connell.
Speaker 2 (45:46):
Michael Jordan did a fantastic job. But if i'm if
I'm handing out nominations for acting in that movie, it
goes Delroy Lindo, then Jack O'Connell, and then Michael B.
Speaker 1 (45:56):
Jordan's, and I think.
Speaker 2 (45:57):
The only up he gets, even though he did a very, very,
very good job, is just because he was playing two characters.
But yeah, I would make the argument that Delroy Lindo
has always been stellar and he brought it to the
next level. And then Jack O'Connell, like did that thing
(46:18):
that we like to see in villains where like you
do hate them, but you kind of respect and have
a little bit of admiration for them. Yeah, so he
gave me the kill monger vibe ironically against the former
kill manger, you know what I'm saying, Like where I
was like, ah, I don't quite hate. I mean I
do because damn you evil, but also did you mean
(46:42):
to be evil?
Speaker 1 (46:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (46:43):
Like I sort of see your point, bro, Like that
type of shit where he because he even said it,
it's not it's not He's like, I'm not trying to vulture.
It's like I got ripped out of my own culture
and I see a way to be able to get
back to my people through y'all. So like so the
same a kill monger was like, look, I ain't trying
to murder people in Wakanda, but I watch black people
get killed, bro, So if I got to go through
(47:04):
you to get to them, then that's what I gotta do, exactly,
you know what I'm saying. So like I just man,
man oh man.
Speaker 1 (47:11):
And I want to bring this up to reiterate my
point here real quick with here it is happening? Is happening? Well,
(47:44):
they ever explained why they run like that, I know
they never do in the movie, which is kind of
part of the mystery, I think. So, yeah, little kids.
Speaker 2 (47:52):
So this one Wednesday is like a normal day for
the whole school. Today was so fucking an gladys Bro scary.
But yeah, I'm also curious the last last one. And
unless there's other one, you're gonna talk about the two screenplays.
I think where Sinners will win is screenplay. Yeah, I
(48:14):
think I think that there was a high probability that
Coogler could have maybe snuck out a director one until
one battle after another came out and then it's not
to say that he didn't direct the hell out of
that movie, but I just think that PTA was really
like they were both in their bag, but PTA was
on some other shit. And like, I still think that
(48:38):
of the two movies, that Cinner is the better of
the two for me personally. But if I'm just taking
in like an objective eye instead of a subjective one,
I just think the PTA was was was fully on one.
But I think screenplay, I really think that he can
(48:58):
actually take that, and I think you're gonna end up
in a similar situation of what happened with Jordan Peel.
I personally thought that he did a better job directing
than Shape of Water over over Kyomo del Toro. But
it felt like the Academy decided, because of the originality
of the story to give screenplay to Jordan Right and
give director to del Toro. The same thing happens here.
Speaker 1 (49:20):
They did it to Tarantino, they did it to the
Cohen Brothers. They always do that. They did it to
Spike Lee. Spike Lee. It's always their way of encouraging
young creators to keep going or newer creators to keep going.
We'll give you the screenplay. You haven't earned the Best
Picture yet, but I.
Speaker 2 (49:33):
Mean you're the best director though. That's that's the director
is the one that you know.
Speaker 1 (49:37):
Yeah, so yeah, you get the little thing. So we'll see. Yeah,
it could be interesting with Sinners for sure. By the way,
real quick, the Gotham Awards nominations, not that they mean much,
but the Gotham Award nominations came out and for Outstanding
Supporting Performance because they mixed male and female into this category,
you have Benisio, but not Sean Penn for one bat
Laughter or another Jacob Alordi for Frankstein. As I said,
(50:00):
h Inga, if Satter, Liliasis Sentiment of Value, India More
for Father, Mother's Sister Brother. I have no idea what
that is. W Mi Mosaku was nominated for Sinners, which
I thought was a nice surprise, Adam Sandler for Blue Moon,
Alexander scars Guard for Pillion Stealon scars Guard for Sentiment
of Value, and Taana Taylor for One Battle after Another.
So those are the nomination supporting wise, No Ben Foster,
(50:22):
no Sean Penn. So that's interesting. So we'll see. But
you know, this is just the Gotham Wars other awards
stuff to come.
Speaker 2 (50:30):
That's wild to me that they would that they would
genuinely go.
Speaker 1 (50:36):
Yeah then over Sean Penn. Yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (50:41):
I don't know if maybe they still understandably Sean Pen
did some really fucked up ship back in the day.
I don't know if that's what's stopping it, if there
there's a mental block there. But if we're just going
off of performance here, yeah, I disagree with that wholeheartedly.
Speaker 1 (50:57):
Adam, I would agree with the sentats is better the
one bat I Thinkoglar will at the director statue of
Pta'll get the big picture one. I'm telling you guys
right now, do not discount the power of Wicked for Good.
I'm just telling you people, Sinners is a is a
is a film about race, and you know, the Academy
gets real touchy about race, and one battle after another
could be seen as a political film, and we wonder
(51:20):
how they're gonna feel about it. A lot of these
people might go with the feel good Wicked film and
give that like best Director of Best Picture. A lot
of people thought that John m chu not getting nominated
last year was an issue. And if this film comes
out and it's a fucking banger, like so many of
the early reactions were saying, I think that's gonna throw
a monkey wrench into all of these.
Speaker 2 (51:38):
That's the one thing that doesn't help one battle in Sinners. Yes,
it's also the recency bias. So they will re release
for sure. But their moment was in March and in August, right,
nor September whatever versus November, December, right, And it will
be even more in the like, because I would make
(52:00):
the argument pop culture lexicon, it will most likely go
Wicked for Good Sinners and then one battle after the other,
like as good as one battle after the other was.
That is not that it doesn't have that popular movie appeal,
and Wicked for Good has not only the popular movie appeal,
but it is supposedly incredibly good, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (52:21):
So you have to kind of both working in your favor.
We're in for a heavyweight fight for the last two
and a half months. It's going to be crazy. You know.
I saw Adam Naman in the Ring Or a few
weeks ago go. You know, you gotta give pta the
best Director Oscar or it means nothing. The award means nothing,
and that I always think is bullshit to say three
months before the other films have come out. We gotta
(52:44):
wait for these films to come out and then we're
gonna see where it all lies.
Speaker 2 (52:47):
I will tell you this, though, I think Ludwig is
gonna win, like his fourth fucking Oscar score. Lowig has
not missed for years and years and years and years.
Speaker 1 (52:58):
And it started. It starts with his ass being a.
Speaker 2 (53:01):
Collaborator and producer with Childish Cambino, with Donald Glover and
all that, right, and then it just spiraled into him
just being on everything like it's kind of crazy the
amount of he's he has forty four wins at one.
Speaker 1 (53:14):
Hundred and twenty five nominations.
Speaker 2 (53:16):
He's already got two Academy Awards for both Black Panther
and Oppenheimer, and was nominated for Lift Me Up. So
he almost kind of had a you know, a triple
a triple crown there on off of that. Dude has
won so much shit, it's crazy.
Speaker 1 (53:34):
Yeah Swedish, Yeah, oh, dare into our country and take
our awards from American film composers. Goddamn now.
Speaker 2 (53:43):
But it's but see that what's funny, a lot of
people have been stepping up for him, Like I said,
Black Folk been riding for him because Childish started working
with them first, got his first He got his first
Grammy nomination for Awaken My Love with Gambino and Redbone,
which is crazy that red And didn't win Record of
the Year or Best armbas on that year. That's nuts.
(54:03):
But like then got nominated the next year with Gambino
for Record and Song of the Year If This is
America and won that, got nominated for Feels Like Summer
Best rmbats on they didn't win that, but then also
won Best Score Soundtrack for a Visual Media with the
Black Panther soundtrack. Bro and was nominated for Mandalorian season
two for the soundtrack all that shit like bro don't
miss one for Oppenheimer, Like he's just out here in
(54:24):
these streets, just winning and winning and winning in black
folk Glove is ass.
Speaker 1 (54:28):
I'm gonna go out to the Nordic countries because I mean,
that's where he's gonna finally be. I mean, look at
a Hilder what hilde Gunna daughter. She's the one that
did Joker right, and she won out for Joker. She
did the score for Tar, which I thought was an
incredible score twenty eight years later, The Bone Temple that's
coming up next year, and The Bride. She's got two
films coming on allen Hetta which comes out later this year,
(54:50):
so she finds herself working with Nada Costa. She also
did the score for Sakario, which is one of my
favorite scores ever. That and The Revenant, which is another
Dinny film as well. So she has set herself up
really arrival the woman Amy Adams and the side of
talking about oh Hilder Gottna daughter, She's the one who
(55:11):
did Joker and all these things. Yeah, she's Icelandic and
ludvigas Swedish, so like, if you want to go and
get some moody music, go to the Nordic countries. Man,
they got it. You know why because it's always snowing
and ice, so you're dark and depressed all the time,
so you can make that kind of music that works
so well. All right, Well we're running out of time.
(55:32):
We got a lot of questions to get to Winston.
But we should talk about real quick. That World Series
last night? What a crazy game. Eighteen innings. I started
watching the fifth inning. I thought, well, I'll just finish
out the game. Next thing you know, it was eleven
thirty at nights before Freddy Freeman hit that home run
to win the game. You see Bill Mmons on the
left side of the corner there. What an incredible shot
(55:54):
from Freddie Freeman after Cheo Tani essentially tried to carry
the Dodgers on his back. What do you think of
the game? What do you think of that reaction?
Speaker 2 (56:02):
Man?
Speaker 1 (56:02):
Crazy?
Speaker 2 (56:02):
I'll be honest with you. Man, you want to talk
about a team win, but that's not even who I
think is the real hero here. I think the hero
one thousand percent is Climb. This dude has This dude
has not thrown more than twenty pitches because he's a closer. Yeah,
and he put up what's seventy five eighty pitches, bro,
and was able to close that bitch. How Like they
were warming up Yamoto, he was like, fuck it, I
(56:24):
know I pitched two days ago. If I gotta do what,
I gotta do it, Bro. He was ready. He was
warming up and getting ready to go. I was like,
this is nuts, but that is if I've ever seen
a team win, I will tell you this much. I
think it'll still potentially go to seven, but I think
this might be that that might have been the coup
de gra Yeah, Like, I don't think Toronto is gonna
(56:46):
like just quit on it, but think about the mental
toll it took, yeah, to not only play that long
ass game, to play that long ass game away. If
you want it, you're really riding high. Either. T that
lost that after going that long was gonna field sometime
because you scent you play two games, right, you got
to eighteen innings. You played two games, yeah, and then
(57:06):
had to turn around and tonight play another game, which
is crazy, which is nuts. Right, So you put all
that together and the fact that the doctors got to
go home and at least be in their beds with
their families for the evening and then go back and
play again, whereas Toronto had to go to the hotel
sad as shit. Maybe your family's there or not. You're
exhausted after that game, and you gotta find the fortitude
(57:28):
to come back. I think they will give a good fight.
I think that that was actually the killing blow because
of what that did to them mental what it would
do to me mentally, Like I think about that, like
you know, it just I just genuinely think it's going
to have an effect on them going to me.
Speaker 1 (57:45):
This was exactly like the Chiefs and Bills a couple
of years ago where the Chiefs won in those thirteen
seconds and then won in overtime or score the touchdown
to tie thirteen seconds and one overtime. This's exactly what
it feels like that like there, the Bills were good
enough to beat the Chiefs that day, but they weren't
just good enough to win. And that's the difference there.
(58:06):
Toronto gave La everything could handle everything it could handle
with it's pitching and it's hitting, but a couple of
the steps where what allowed the door to open for
LA to win that matchup. And I think that's got
to work on you, as you said, mentally, like we're good,
we're great even, but we're not great enough to beat
this Dodgers team. So it'll be fascinating.
Speaker 2 (58:27):
It's the fun thing about watching Christy is I've forgot
how much I really enjoy boxing movies, and I really
should watch more boxing and MMA than I do. But
the idea of again that like Volley's like that, We've
seen that in tennis. We've seen that whatever you put
everything into that moment and if you did not get,
if you did not get the desired result that you wanted,
(58:49):
you just you just expended all your energy and not
just your physical but your mental energy. I just think
that that's going to have an effect on them in
the long run.
Speaker 1 (58:57):
Oh yeah, and the other team is inspired to go
win because they won that game. Yeah, all right, and
let's hit the NFL real quick. Winston a bunch of
games over the weekend. Week eight here started with the
Chargers beating the Vikings, pretty much crushing the Vikings. Now
Carson Wentz has season ending surgery. The Dolphins beat the Falcons.
Kirk Cousins we shall never see you again. The Jets
got that Victoris who said, thirty nine to thirty eight
(59:18):
over the Bengals after the Bengals bull a nineteen point lead.
The Patriots beat the Browns thirty two to thirteen. The
Eagles crushed the Giants in Scataboo. Your boys, Scataboo is
out for the season. Yeah. The Bills torched the Panthers
forty nine. The Ravens looks like they're coming back because
Lamar is now back for next week. Beat the Bears
thirty to sixteen. The Texans shock the forty nine ers.
(59:39):
The mac Jones experiment as a fifty to fifty experiment.
The Buccaneers took care of business against the Saints. The
Cowboys got molly wopped by the Broncos. The Colts crushed
the Titans. The Packers, as we said, out lasted the Steelers.
And last night my commanders laid a big fat egg
in the second half and lost to the Chiefs twenty
eight to seven. So what do you want to say
(01:00:00):
about any of the stories coming out of this weekend
or any of the big stuff going on that happened
during the games. I mean, I think the interesting part is.
Speaker 2 (01:00:09):
Most of the narratives that we've had, Yeah, just kind
of further solidified themselves, you know what I'm saying, Like
there's some parody, but for the most part, it was
that the Cowboys who still scored twenty four points, Like,
let's keep it buck like, they still scored twenty four points. Like,
let's see what the tod I don't remember what the
total yardage was. Let me see if I can pull
(01:00:29):
it really quick. Total yardage wasn't great. It was a
three thirty nine. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great.
Like they did a lot of the stuff that they
already do well. Right, But the thing with the Broncos
is that Broncos defense is no joke. Yeah, Broncos defense
has slapped around multiple teams here. And the one thing
that Sean Payton somehow is very good at doing. God,
(01:00:52):
Sean Payton is so good at embarrassing the Cowboys. I
remember those Saints games when he would do that, and
he would have a play be like, I know this
is gonna work. As he study because he's study. There
is a special level of petty in his body because
he was supposed to be the heir apparent to be
the next head coach of the Cowboys, and they said nah,
and then he ended up in New Orleans. So he
(01:01:12):
always comes up with some special shit. And there was
even an interview with r J. Harvey where they're like, yeah, no, dude,
Seawn always has like three or four plays where he
comes and goes, guys, guy's is the perfect fucking play
will work one hundred percent. This is a defense that
will throw at us. And to that point, you talk
to former players and r J. Harvey said this too.
He goes, yeah, he's typically right about that. He'll give
(01:01:34):
you three plays and he guarantees will score a touchdown. Yeah,
and he is almost never wrong. Yeah, And and so
that so the narrative would remain true. The Cowboys will
do nothing without a defense. You know what I'm saying, Like,
it doesn't matter how good Dak plays, He's eventually gonna
have a bad game, which he did. It wasn't terrible,
but it wasn't it wasn't what he had been doing,
and they couldn't pull it off because of that. Uh,
(01:01:57):
the Patriots have proven that they are a real and
that Drake May is a very real MVP contender, and
that the Browns are not good and that they should
play Shador Sanders. But I guarantee you at this point,
Kevin Stefanski hates Shador Sanders.
Speaker 1 (01:02:11):
It has to be right.
Speaker 2 (01:02:13):
He hates him, and it will not play him if
he can avoid that at all. And I'll be honest
with you, I hope at this point for the sake
of Shador, so they don't do some function where they're
calling bad plays one or scoring him over. I genuinely
hope don't play him until the last two, three, four
weeks of the season so he can get on tape
and then the Browns can not be assholes. Let this
(01:02:33):
man walk and let another team see Chador's talents and go, shit, man,
we need a quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:02:38):
Yo, Let's pick up Shador. Let's trade for Shador.
Speaker 2 (01:02:43):
I knew eventually that the Frat Brothers were gonna go down.
I was not hoping for an injury to do it,
but I just figured that, you know, Jackson Dardan Skataboo
at a certain point, you know, the hangover would kick
in and and something would happen.
Speaker 1 (01:02:53):
But that was that was brutal.
Speaker 2 (01:02:55):
That was brutal to see his ankle, because that's how
I broke my ankle not playing but in a manner,
and I was just.
Speaker 1 (01:03:01):
Like, oh, yeah, that's rough.
Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
But other than that stuff, you know, bears coming back
down to Earth makes sense. Texans were never as bad
as they were put on to be, so I'm glad
to see that they're kind of and mac Jones was
never that good. Yes, I still Jonathan Taylor, in my opinion,
is the front runner for MVP, But I still am
(01:03:25):
if he on the Colts because what is going to
happen when we actually get to the playoffs. What is
going to happen when you actually play a real threat
like they got the Chiefs in three weeks. I want
to see what they do against the Chiefs now that
the Chiefs are back to dynasty mode.
Speaker 1 (01:03:40):
Yeah the next three weeks, the Steelers next week, and
the Chiefs in three weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:03:44):
Yeah, and and and the Steelers are hit or miss,
so I expect them to handle that. But the Chiefs,
I really want to see what they do against the Chiefs,
like if they if they if they stick it to
them or a bare minimum, if they hold their own
and win, then I I will finally believe that they
have a real shot to do some shit. But until that,
Like I mean again, I'll give you the Broncos when
(01:04:09):
it was as a narrow margin, but you did beat
the Broncos, and the Broncos look like a legitimate team.
But you beat the Dolphins, the Titans, the Titans again,
the Raiders, the Cardinals, the Chargers who don't know if
they want to be good or not, and then you
lost to the Rams, an actual good team. So I
don't I can't believe the Colts until I see shits
on the line or you're dealing with a major threat.
Speaker 1 (01:04:31):
I think what we saw this weekend, we're teams separating
themselves as we usually do midway through the season. The
Chiefs look like they're back in form. If they hadn't
tried to give us the game in the first half,
they'd have beat us by much more. The Packers look fantastic.
Jordan Love looks like he's living up to the hype.
The Colts look real to me every week because the
(01:04:52):
thing is, yes, beat the teams you're supposed to beat,
but they're beating them resoundingly, and that to me, says Voyumes.
I agree with you. Jonathan Taylor is the m v P.
I don't. I have no disagreement on that, but I
do think Daniel Jones is playing out of his mind
right now, and I think it's fantastic.
Speaker 2 (01:05:07):
But I will give you this, I had an analyst
said that, and I think that that's true. Remember what
Daniel Jones did in New York, I had a healthy
Saquon and Squon was having similar elite seasons. It is
because you have to stack eight or even nine in
the box, so then your options are obviously wide.
Speaker 1 (01:05:23):
Open as far as passes and with great running backs
who can't complete pass.
Speaker 2 (01:05:30):
But that's but I understand that. But like, think about
like any of the like true elite quarterbacks that have
like okay to no running back, the Patrick Mahomes he
was doing for a while, what what Josh Allen has done.
But James Cook has now been a much needed weapon
to help take some of the pressure off. But Lamar
(01:05:52):
before Derrick Henry, obviously Lamar after was like crazy too,
but before he was doing all sorts of crazy things.
Speaker 1 (01:05:57):
No, I'm not trying to put him in the elite level.
I'm just saying he is playing out of his mind
this season for this situation. Do I think he's a
great quarterback. No, I just think for this season, this situation,
he's playing out of his mind for right now.
Speaker 2 (01:06:10):
We'll see how long it lasts. I just haven't seen
him do it on his own. I have not seen
Daniel Jones put the team on his back. He's playing
his role, is what's going on. But you have not
had good quarterbacks to play the role because Anthony Richardson
is not good and Flacco is all over the place here,
like you know what I'm saying, because it's forty like
(01:06:31):
he's at the end of his career. So I think
Daniel Jones is doing a great job for what needs
to happen. But I feel the way about Daniel Jones
the way I feel about Rock Party. I think you
found the perfect system in the perfect scenario to take
a little bit of pressure off you and then you
can make some pretty dope plays that need to happen
for the team to truly succeed.
Speaker 1 (01:06:47):
Yeah, that's all it takes. Sometimes. The Buccaneers kept winning,
I think they're where they're at. I think the Ravens
now with Lamar coming back because the Bengals blew that
game against the Jets. The Pittsburgh Pittsburgh lost and the
Browns just suck. They now see, upon pssibility, they're only
two games out of first place, so they see it. Possibly,
the Bills look imperious again. The Eagles certainly look with
all the drama that they're going to handle business. The Patriots, man,
(01:07:09):
this is gonna be interesting to see what happens with
Drake May and the Patriots, and like they could be
the team that shocks everybody because no one saw the
Patriots coming when Belichick and Brady took them to the
super Bowl that first time. This could be a repeat
of that where everyone's talking about everybody else. Yeah, they
said that about Brady the first year he took over
from bledsoe.
Speaker 2 (01:07:26):
It's too so. I mean, we just got out of
the Patriot era. I don't want to do this again.
Speaker 1 (01:07:32):
What I'm just telling you, it's very possible. Drake looks
damn good, and this team isn't full of stars. They're
full of good players and they're getting the job done.
And so I think we're gonna see, like once the
Patriots get to a playoff situation, what that's going to be. Like,
I think the Bengals still have a chance. We'll see
the Dolphins are done, but the Chargers. I agree with
(01:07:52):
you in that the Chargers can't decide if they're good
or bad. And my commanders are not going to make
the playoffs, so you might as well just scratch them out.
Speaker 2 (01:07:58):
Do you see bat Thomas over here in the common
I want you to bring this up because he's told
me this before. I know what's going on in the
locker room. I know she doesn't deserve started even I
want him to start. Here's what I need to tell you, though,
Here's the deal. He's told me some stuff in confidence
because he's got he's got he's got insiders that were
and stuff like that. Regardless of if that's what's going on,
(01:08:21):
then instead of this kind of weird back and forth
and everything else, then let the kids sink or swim,
and then all of this shuts up. All of this
shuts up. But instead, the way Stefanski talks about Shador
in press conferences, you've lost all credibility that this is
this is anything other than some sort of petty ass
like vendetta against Shadoor and or Dion. It doesn't matter
(01:08:44):
what is actually going on. At the core of it.
The optics make it look like because the Browns have
done this before with Baker and with ODBBJ and with
everybody else, and then you paid Deshaun Watson's ass. They
constantly make bad decisions, and whether or not the one
of the players are immature or has done something themselves
to deserve a little bit of being shot upon for
what they're doing, the Browns always are the ones that
(01:09:07):
look like they're in the wrong because of how they
handle things. Regardless of if they're right about this, they
are wrong, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (01:09:16):
Even when you're right, you're wrong. We will see, we
will see. But yeah, I should do or should just play?
I mean, but I understand you want to see what
you got Dylan Gabriel as well.
Speaker 2 (01:09:28):
But what you got in that short little midget? I
who wait, I forgot you can't use that. I apologize.
I apologize. I apologize. That was very wrong. That was
old school ship, and we walked that back. I am
sincerely apologized. They're obviously going to cut that out whenever
they clip me out and shit of me saying immediately
that was completely inappropriate and I shouldn't have said that
and clip that out, and I feel really bad I
(01:09:50):
think about I genuinely think about Drew Brees and Russell
Wilson because it's a similar thing. But they showed talent
immediately to do something. What has he shown?
Speaker 1 (01:09:58):
I don't know, that's the thing.
Speaker 2 (01:09:59):
Yeah, there's nothing that Dylan Gabriel has shown that I said, yeah,
I have a lot of faith in him.
Speaker 1 (01:10:03):
I don't think there's a difference though, because I think
if Shador comes in and he and he ships the bed,
they're gonna be all these people are going, well, the
Brown suck, they're no good at development cordecks. But if
Dylan does it, Dylan sucks. So it's gotta be you
gotta be consistent. If if Shador comes in and he sucks,
it's because Shaudor sucks. Dylan is gonna be is playing
behind the same O line with the same weapons, and
if he sucks, then Shaudor sucks too.
Speaker 2 (01:10:25):
You know, it's very possible, and that maybe what we
need for both of them is to not be on
that team because I just think that the Brown suck.
Speaker 1 (01:10:31):
Their line is so bad.
Speaker 2 (01:10:32):
If not that Flacco all of a sudden became like
mister Magic, but he is playing significantly better behind a
competent O line that the Bengals are put together because
they kept getting Joe Burrow hurt. You know what I'm saying,
So like, give give the quarterbacks an opportunity to have
a competent O line and then and and an actual
number one receiver because, as was called out by a
(01:10:52):
number of analysts, Jerry Judy is just just a.
Speaker 1 (01:10:55):
Guy, I know. So we'll see Week nine is going
to be really interesting. A lot of good matchups in
week nine as well, And as you said, we're heading
towards that Colts versus Chiefs matchup in three weeks, which
will be a lot of fun to see. And already
Aaron Rodgers is turning on the Steelers, pushing on his
lineman last week, yelling at his team this week, and
(01:11:17):
then trying to own the moment with Jordan Love at
the end there. So you trust me, we're about maybe
a game or two away from Aaron Rodgers imploding on
the sideline, yelling at Mike Tomlin put money on it,
Put money on all right. Ask get some questions because
I know we run out of time here, Winston Doug
developers in here says what'suff dogg? He says because I'm
a nerd. Here's a list of what of who made
(01:11:38):
NFL Top ten quarterbacks the Super Bowl era and their
coaches when they were rookies. Spot the odd coach out?
Starback with Laundry, Landry Washing, Montana Reeves and Elway, Shoula,
Montana Home gunfarv more A Manning, Belichick, Brady Oh. I
would say more A Manning is the odd one out.
Don't you think the super Bowl is rookie year? These
(01:12:02):
coaches when they were rookies. Here's a list of the
coaches for rookies. Here's here. Here's the list of who
made NFL Top ten quarterbacks of the Super Bowl era
and their coaches when they were rookies. Spot the odd
coach out? I would say Jim Mora for sure, Probably
Moro because all those other.
Speaker 2 (01:12:18):
Guys didn't become Belichick at this point. Though, the way
he's going out.
Speaker 1 (01:12:21):
You're not wrong. Doug agrees. I think more is by
far the worst than that list. Manning was the only
quarterback to overcome a mediacre coach to become elite. Yeah, okay,
fair point, fair point. Yeah, I'd have to look at
that one a little bit more. Sean Brennan. Hey, guys,
oh Sewn showed up hos Casey's winning and went into hiding.
Speaker 2 (01:12:46):
And then all of a sudden after the tackle that
turned the tide, he just wants.
Speaker 1 (01:12:49):
To show up out of nowhere. Hey, guys, who would
be your top three MVV candidates halfway through the NFL season?
Going to shock you guys. I'd go Jonathan Taylor, Drake May,
Drake May, Sam Donald, then Mahomes at four.
Speaker 2 (01:13:02):
No, I agree with the first two. I would say Taylor, May, Mahomes,
and then Baker.
Speaker 1 (01:13:16):
And Dack tied at four.
Speaker 2 (01:13:19):
Okay, Donald, No, Donald does not no, no, no, no
the sinning. But Sam no, Sam Donald is not playing
MVP football. In my opinion, I think he is playing
very well, but I think there are people that are
outshining him by a by a large margin here, and
so that would that would just be my my, my picks.
Speaker 1 (01:13:40):
What about you? Here's the spot track on this. Mahomes
at plus one fifty, Josh Allen still in the mix,
Drake May, Stafford, Daniel Jones, Oh, Stafford, I forgot about
Stafford Stafford, Daniel Jones, Jordan Love, Jared Goff, Baker, Jonathan Taylor,
Jalen Hurts, that's what And look Jonathan Taylor, because they
don't give it to running backs anymore, is why he's
(01:14:02):
so low on the odds scale. But I didn't even
think Allen would be this high. Still he has not shown.
Speaker 2 (01:14:08):
No, he hasn't shown up. I think that that's absolutely trash.
I guess what they're banking off of is the idea
that he will turn it on going forward. I'll tell
you this, if we get like last couple of years,
Lamar Jackson and he somehow turns this team around, and
they like, go and take the division and all that shit,
may I think it's not even a question. If we
get the same performance out of Lamar that we had
(01:14:30):
the last few years and he brings them back, it
is clear who the most valuable player is because you
missed him for like four weeks and now all of
a sudden, he drags your team into the playoffs and
wins the division. Oh my god, how.
Speaker 1 (01:14:41):
Many games do you need to play to qualify for MVP?
Is it ten or eight? I don't actually know, because
I mean that would be the only issue with Lamar
is because he's been out for a few games. Let
me see to win MVP in NFL, there's no minimum
game requirement, there's no specific number of game. Here's your
quiet wow.
Speaker 2 (01:15:02):
Only. But again, he only missed for four weeks, which
is a month. That's a season, a sizeable amount of time. However, Yeah,
if you, if you turn this dumpster fire around because
you have the worst defense, you're you and the Cowboys
are playing Luki lou for who has the worst defense
in the league. If he somehow turns this around, Oh
my god.
Speaker 1 (01:15:20):
It says here. Recent MVP winners have all been on
teams with at least thirteen wins in a seventeen season
and have been number of conference, number one or number
two seeds. So that'll be interesting. It's rare to it's
rare to win while missing many games, and their performance
must be dominant order to con Yeah, we'll see you,
might be right, good dark Horse. Derek Johnson, Thank you, Derek,
very kind of you. Good to see you in here, brother,
(01:15:42):
always nice to see him a man. Thank you so much,
you are the best. Appreciate you. Yeah, I have two cam,
says a fat l to the commanders, and you already
know Winston go Hawks. What does he enjoy? Why does
he enjoy watching.
Speaker 2 (01:15:57):
Because he likes to touch shit. He's probably delusion to
think the Sam Darnold is also an MVP candidate right now?
Speaker 1 (01:16:04):
Like, nah, bro, uh uh never won a super Bowl? Right,
They've they've been to super Bowls, but they've never won
a Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:16:11):
What they did they destroyed Peyton Manning on the Bronco.
I forget the opening of the game was a safety.
Speaker 1 (01:16:19):
Right, I forget the Russell Wilson one because like they
came back the next year and blew it on the
goal line.
Speaker 2 (01:16:24):
Oh my god, awful, Bro. That that hurt me. That
hurt my soul, just both because the Patriots won another
Super Bowl, but also I was pulling for everybody on that.
Speaker 1 (01:16:36):
Team except Russell Wilson. Yeah. I'll tell you this. It's
the one America's game I never watch, is that Patriots
team winning the Super Bowl that year, because the Seahawks
should have won that. They should have won that. Reggie Brown,
what's up? Reggie says? Ubisoff canceled the next Assassin's Creed
that was going to take place after the Civil War
(01:16:57):
during reconstruction with a slav A slave killing and klansmen
Kukuk clansmen Ubosoft said it was because of the black
guy in Shadows backlash and the culture climate were in.
They're not wrong, They're not.
Speaker 2 (01:17:08):
That's but that's infuriating, yes, because what I'm sorry, killing
killing klansmen is now a bad thing.
Speaker 1 (01:17:19):
Yeah, they are.
Speaker 2 (01:17:21):
They are like essentially without having a government backing them.
They are the American version of what the Nazis were
kind of they went around just torturing people that aren't white,
straight Christians. Yeah, and especially black folk like I don't
what the fuck man.
Speaker 1 (01:17:37):
Were protected by the police and were protected by the
local governments.
Speaker 2 (01:17:40):
Because they were the police and the government, not because
you want to talk about a secret society that the
only secret that they had was who they were under
their damn hoods. Otherwise they were out in the public
just willing nelly setting people on fire. Like that's insane
that we decided that that is a controversial game to have.
Speaker 1 (01:17:59):
But yeah, but I mean to be fair. Assassin's Creed
Shadows it came out the sales figures this week that
it underperformed. It didn't sell as many that Ghost of Yota,
which I own and I own both by the way,
Assassin's Creed and Ghostia already outsold Assassin's Creed and it's
only been out two or three weeks. So unfortunately, that's
(01:18:20):
the horrible truth going on right now. There's such hatred
towards again, hatred towards black people, hatred towards black content,
hatred towards people of color. It's so fucking exhausting that
we have to keep repeating this nonsense in this country
over and over and over again. Get the fuck over it. Oh,
it's just so exhausting. It is, so you know, my
heart breaks. My heart breaks, honestly, you know. Michael Miles
(01:18:43):
says Damson interests fuel to challis speculation after posing with
Angela Bassett and Deny Garira at the Wakandan themed Vogue
World Runway show Coincidences or soft launch is the new
Black Panther in the MCU. He fits right in with
the man.
Speaker 2 (01:18:57):
I wish people would come over and watch the BLURR
breakdown on Monday and drop all these damned super chests,
because I literally that was the leading story. God damn it.
Speaker 1 (01:19:08):
Hey man, what can I tell you? I feel the
same way I feel the same time when I see
Christian super chat, So you know that's the game.
Speaker 2 (01:19:14):
Right, just you broke over you you're talking about Hey man,
you know that's the gang baby.
Speaker 1 (01:19:20):
I've been doing it longer. There's the whole thing with I.
I don't know if it's I think it's fun is
what it is. And I think Angela and Denise Deny,
you know, it's it's about supporting, supporting other black characters, sorry,
other black creators of the Black creatives, And so I
think being seen with him is maybe their way of
kind of pushing that forward, but also kind of a
tongue in cheek wink and nod to the people who've
(01:19:42):
been saying, Damnson should be the guy for Black Panther.
We'll see, but remember it is dead, so you know
in the in the film. So I don't know if
you want to be seen with her in necessarily is
that pushing it forward?
Speaker 2 (01:19:54):
Oh, Angela, the Queen Ramanda. I mean, yeah, it's fair.
Speaker 1 (01:19:58):
You never know.
Speaker 2 (01:19:59):
We're gonna get variants, We're gonna secret work. We may
get Queanamanda from another universe and that's her.
Speaker 1 (01:20:03):
That's her son. That could be because we saw the
early remember the early artwork that came out a few
months ago. It showed a black panther from another universe,
and it could absolutely be someone like Damn Synadrest for sure. Yeah,
we will see. I just I want to interest elbow
black panther. Look at old bills.
Speaker 2 (01:20:22):
Somebody's over here talking about beating the bills.
Speaker 1 (01:20:24):
Who's beating the bills? I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:20:26):
I would love to know who they're referring to.
Speaker 1 (01:20:28):
All since I want Assassin's Creed Django, I do, I
would be sick. I would I would totally have for
the Assassin's Creed jan Jungle uh doc developers backing and says.
With the number one pick in the twenty twenty six
NFL draft of New York Jets select John Roker Winsday
Marshall a quarterback with either of you guys pulling l way, yes,
(01:20:48):
I would not go play for the Jets. Also, I'm
a shitty quarterback, so I would never have been a quarterback.
I don't know, but I just don't want to live
in New York.
Speaker 2 (01:20:55):
So I feel the way that the dude that didn't
want to go to the Utah Jazz, I'd be like, na,
I'm good, you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (01:21:01):
Like I don't, I don't, I don't want to live.
Speaker 2 (01:21:02):
In New York. I like to visit New York. I
don't like, I don't. I could never live there.
Speaker 1 (01:21:09):
Personal they play in Jersey, so you could live in
Jersey and go play in Jersey.
Speaker 2 (01:21:13):
I mean sure, but then but then, you know, once
I have a terrible O line, and then then Hassle
is gonna hate me, and I just this is there
is a lot of pressure, man, But I gotta I
gotta go with all these greats that went before me,
justin Fields, yeah, Jack Wilson and one drive, Aaron Rodgers
(01:21:34):
and you know, uh, sex sex criminal Brett Farve like
like I don't, I don't. Just just just a lit
me of of just wonderful talented people.
Speaker 1 (01:21:47):
Imber Like, I know again, I gotta say, what were
the Jets quarterbacks through the years, Chad Pennington remember Pennington.
Speaker 2 (01:21:58):
Sir, sir getting stabbed a lot for getting drunk and
trying to harass people in their cars. You know, Matt
Mark Sanchez saying.
Speaker 1 (01:22:08):
Yeah, like I come, yeah, Ken O'Brien is about when
I started watching the Jets. Then Boomer remember boomersion on
the Jets for a while, Neil o'donald for a Vinny
Testaverdi for a year, remember that year. A couple of years,
and then you had Chad Pennington. They all everybody thought
Pennington was going.
Speaker 2 (01:22:23):
To be the one ruined Geno Smith. Yeah, Fitzpatrick hold
it down for a little bit, got in trouble there
sad ruin ruined Sam Donald. Yeah, I had a little
had a little Flacco in there forbid.
Speaker 1 (01:22:36):
Yeah. Yeah. It's not a good Lester history, not since
name it. It's not a good only one brows, only
one super Bowl. All right, Well there you go. Anything
else wins? Anything you want to talk about? It were good?
Shall we wrap up? Any you want to hit on?
Speaker 2 (01:22:51):
Plug it and I gotta get out of here. Let's go,
Thank you, go ahead, take it away. Yeah. You can
find me at the Swacky Blurt on all platforms man,
especially here on YouTube on That's what I was talking about,
the blurred Breakdown the pop Culture Show for when you
need to know see what happened? Was I broke all
that down? Go go go back and watch the episode.
I broke down the David's interest shit goddamn. But I
(01:23:13):
also put out my Christie out of the theater reaction.
If you want a little more in depth, and I'll
probably do a review a little bit later. I will
be putting out and out of the theater reaction for
In Your Dreams later this evening, so keep it out
for that. Once the social embargo is done Wednesday, so
tomorrow Blurt's in the Hood meet myself and Jay Washington.
We had the Blurded th on this past week and
it was a lot of fun if you want to
(01:23:34):
watch the playback, but we will be back tomorrow and
then Fridays Capes and Cows myself, Christian and Chris carr
over on the Christian Hallbub channel, as well as the
Demon Slayer reactions. We're finishing up season one a Demon
Slayer this weekend, and then next weekend is the start
of season two. Or we got to the last two
(01:23:55):
episodes on Saturday, the first episode of season two on Sunday,
and we're doing the movie the first movie that came out,
Moogan Train Movie next weekend. So nice keep an eye
out for all of that stuff. I greatly appreciate you
guys in the support and I'll see it on.
Speaker 1 (01:24:08):
The flip Man. We got one more sorry Winston Fred
hate tequila dudes. I'm loving the Oscars talk but there
are instances where a movie will win Best Picture, but
the other movie was more entertaining. Pinocchio is one is
one example one, but Pussing Boots was the way more
entertaining one. Do you have any examples where a film
won the Best Picture? Yeah, I would say do the
right thing, much more entertaining than driving Miss Daisy.
Speaker 2 (01:24:33):
Yeah, I would just have to think about it, Like
what was the year that get.
Speaker 1 (01:24:36):
Out was Dark Knight? Even for God's sake.
Speaker 2 (01:24:41):
Dark Knight. Yeah, for sure, give me one second to pull.
Speaker 1 (01:24:46):
Then the other one we have ten and yeah, Winston looked.
Tim says, Johnny boy, any chance you become an F
one fan? Not the movie, but the actual sport. I
think you'd like it with the current drivers, championship chases
between two teammates. If not, give the Netflix show. Yeah,
I'm definitely gonna watch the Netflix show. I promise you.
I promise you. I got to watch the I just
watched the Montreal expos documentary last night on Netflix. Highly
(01:25:07):
recommend that one if you like baseball, and then watch
the Allen Iverson doc tonight and then I will make
my way to the F one show. I promise. I
love sports docs good.
Speaker 2 (01:25:16):
Yeah, so just looking back, I mean plenty hell last year,
and Noora is fine. I had a good time with
my actress. I'll give she can keep her best actress win.
That's fine, okay. But as far as like the most
entertaining out of these Dune Part two, the substance Wicked,
all of those, in my opinion, were better. Twenty twenty three,
I will admit I still haven't seen Appenheimer's. I can't
(01:25:38):
speak on that, but I've heard from everybody.
Speaker 1 (01:25:40):
They deserved it.
Speaker 2 (01:25:40):
Everything everywhere, all at once, I think was correct. Coda
I think was correct. You could have gone with promising
young women, in my opinion, or juicing the Black Basillah
over Nomadland.
Speaker 1 (01:25:52):
I'm definitely promising, almost more entertaining than No Man.
Speaker 2 (01:25:55):
Yeah, Parasite was the correct choice. I think that year
Black Panther, Blackman, Bohemian Rhapsody, Vice, A Star Is Born,
or all better than Green Book that is that is
crash all over again. Get Out one thousand percent should
have won over the Shape of Water. I don't think
that this was close like it was Shape of Water.
(01:26:16):
Call me by your name, Darkas Dower Dunkirk, Get Out,
Lady Bird, Phantom Thread, The Post, and the Three Billboards
outside of Eving, Missouri. Let me tell you something, nobody
still talks about any of those movies except for get Out,
and I think that that should say something about the
best picture, even if it's a very arty film. Yeah,
it was full lexicon and was a top tier movie
that is still at what ninety seven percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Speaker 1 (01:26:38):
And shit, uh huh what year was that?
Speaker 2 (01:26:40):
Twenty seventeen Awards? So it came out in twenty sixteen, okay, okay,
and then finally, just to go one more back. I
think they got it right by fixing it with Moonlight.
It's just funny how that went down. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:26:58):
Well, I mean, you know, I still talk talk about
Darkest Hour, but I hear you. You're right.
Speaker 2 (01:27:02):
I really really liked Darkest Hour.
Speaker 1 (01:27:05):
But you're right. Get Out is the cultural footprint. It's
no doubt about it, no doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (01:27:09):
And on top of the fact that Darkest Hour was
interesting because Gary Oldman was fantastic, but as far as
what was the better overall movie?
Speaker 1 (01:27:18):
Yeah, yeah, no, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, fair point because
he deserved because he didn't win.
Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
Did did he win.
Speaker 1 (01:27:23):
For for for Darkest Ower, Yeah, which was correct.
Speaker 2 (01:27:28):
That was the reward to give. And I think that
happens a lot where you'll have movies where this was
an actor's vehicle to do something and they get Best
Picture nods or anything.
Speaker 1 (01:27:38):
Else like that, but it really is just about the actor. Yeah,
I agree that no one talks about uh one bat
the Shape of Water at all. No one talks about
that film. It was fine, It was a good film,
but it's probably one of the best film he's ever done.
But I think Frankenstein is way better than that film.
So if you guys have one, go see it. All right,
that's it, Thank you for me, follow me out. The
(01:27:59):
