(00:23):
Oh my goodness, Welcome to theLast Cast, HBO's unofficial Last of Us
recap podcast. This show which washosted each week by me, Jack and
Andrew. Hello, I mean we'restill technically hosting it. It's just a
little bit different, but was hostedwith Yeah yeah, but we took a
deeper look into the mega TV seriesevent The Last of Us, and throughout
(00:47):
the entire season one, we brokedown, assessed, compared contrasts, and
had a whole lot of fun.But you know, as we went,
but wait, there's more. Sograb yourself a cup of Joel's favorite blend
and let's get on with it.Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, all
right, so our drops, Andrewwill not will not relent even just keep
(01:11):
going if I kept going. Ohgoodness, our drop schedule. Yes,
we are still sticking with our thursdays. Last week it was a holiday week,
so we we just assumed that.So it's a bye week. However,
we didn't get any iTunes reviews thisweek. Totally fine, bitch or
the last two weeks whatever, sonof a bitch. Be nice. But
(01:34):
we do have some replies from justour last email show, some people writing
in because we asked some questions otherpeople who are seasoned veterans with Wayfern.
So we're gonna dive. We're gonnadive into them, all right. I'm
gonna go first from Chris pe ourvery lovely friend and a veteran, Chris
(01:57):
Alas, I miss the voice ofthe world. I love to live in
that scary world of marauding death groupsand creepy zombies, that world of natural
reclamation and beautiful unspoiled landscapes and offound families and selfless sacrifice. Jack,
you were that voice kind of youwere, And that's he's referencing because we
read his email on the last showwhere he talked about his comments on Bella
(02:22):
Ramsey and I'm assuming he's calling mekind because there's room for opinion on this
show so long as it's not likebashing or hateful or things like that.
So okay, okay, Yes,twas a nice voice and great accent talking
about the best games ever. Ilook forward to your next endeavor. I
hope all is well with you andyour family, So of course that is
(02:43):
to you and I Chris, thankyou so much. I know I already
replied to you on the Twitter DMS, but you know it's important to include
the comments here as well. SoChris, Chris nice, Chris Bibacon.
Sorry, unbelievable. I apologize towhoever has that accent. It was from
(03:04):
the Lord of the Ring anyway,I apologize to all Hobbits, all hobbits
in the audience. It's from Derekm who starts strong Scotsman. Heretly it's
pronounced Edinburgh ed broh. It's likehow the kids bro Edinburgh and loving the
(03:27):
pod keep it up. Oh,before I forget, Andrew was right,
love to hear it, you loveto hear it. The Edinburgh Festival I
almost literally just confides. I waslike the Edinburgh Festival, I saw video
watchers or that'll be a treat foryou. The Edinburgh Festival is the biggest
(03:52):
arts festival in the world. TheFringe is the comedy festival and has scene
shows by the members of Monty Pythonand Robin Williams. I want to many
other people, you know. Sothat's great. Yeah, thank you so
much Derek for writing in Derek, thank you. Yes, it's good to
be right. We would listen tous and roadcast from Scotsman. Maybe I
(04:15):
should. Yeah, yeah, Idefinitely would recommend us some Derek please,
Yeah, let's go. And Jenfrom North Las Vegas, Nevada. Yes,
Hi, Jack and Andrew Incasha Andrew, you are correct, sir,
(04:35):
Yes, North Las Vegas is athing and a place, a place and
a Please I'm playing Man Lives here. Loll Jack and Andrew. You two
had me cracking up watching you readmy review. I bought the first game
for my husband for his birthday andI'm going to watch him play it since
he is a gamer. Then Iwill listen to Wayfair and Strangers after that.
(04:58):
Yeah. Thanks again and for allyou do and for keeping me laughing.
Jen from North Las Vegas, Nevada. That's right, god, I
mean, here's the thing. Yousaw that and like instantly pulled it out.
You're like North northas Vegas. It'sjust like m L me and like
I feel like like a Roman numeralstyif ist shum, I complicate everything.
(05:31):
N is your mom? Wow.Wow, let's leave the mothers out of
this. Oh my goodness, allright, Jen, thank you so much.
I know I was talking with youa little bit over on Twitter,
which or excuse me, Instagram whichbut by the way, anybody who's listening
(05:51):
to this if you are communicating withtlou podcast on Twitter or tlou podcast on
Instagram, you're chatting with me.Andrew doesn't use any of that because he's
blame, but you're always talking withme. Wow. Okay, Well,
I just want to make it clearbecause you know, I think it's it's
fair and I know what We've talkedabout that over on Wayfarer and but this
(06:14):
is a completely different show. SoI reply on YouTube, that's my Domai.
So if you if you talk,if you're seeing comments on YouTube,
that's me. Yeah. There yougo. See we split, we split
the work. It works, that'show we do it. Yes, split
the word the visual people. Butwe're gonna go over to our emails from
(06:34):
we're still in February of twenty twentythree for anyone listening, not in twenty
twenty three in February. Yes,we actually got a lot of emails on
one particular day, February twenty third. I think we got one, two,
two, so I thought it waslast three. A lot of emails.
(06:58):
You know what, I gonna takean emails in February full stop.
Do you want to take it,you want me to take it, I'll
do it. I'll do it allright, you do. This is from
Dustin Tea. Hey, y'all,Hope y'all are doing good. Man,
it's a lot of y'alls. It'sokay. I say that all the time.
Hope y'all are doing good. Justwanted to tell you how much I've
(07:18):
enjoyed listening to Wayfaring Strangers and theLast Cast. I'm listening to the episode
sixth episode love the three hour stylehelps me get through work. Dustin,
Come on, man, I justwant to tell you, mainly Jack,
sorry, Andre, love you too, my Tea brethren. It makes me
(07:40):
so happy listening to how emotional youget talking about these episodes every single week.
It makes me feel seen so much. This game means so fucking much
to me, and it makes mehappy seeing someone else break down like I
do talking about this series. Keepup the good work. I know you
will. Let's hope maybe this seriesends on a high note. Funny joke
(08:03):
that's Dustin signs off and then addsa PS PostScript, enjoy my tattoo of
a drawing from a specific page froma specific book of specific mug that belongs
to a specific someone, and wecan't say what those specifics are because we
do not spoil on this podcast. We do not. But Dustin, first,
(08:26):
thank you so much. I appreciateI appreciate that people don't mind that
I get wee be on this podcastor did. I don't know if I
will come over the fact that Iwas crying. No, I would never,
but I think, I mean,it's such an emotional journey overall.
(08:48):
I certainly felt even with all ofmy nitpicking and not it wasn't all nitpicking.
I think I brought up some goodpoints. Of course they're you know,
strong opinion, strongly old here, but I think it would be weird
for me. I'm like such anemotional person. It would be weird for
(09:09):
me if I wasn't feeling that andthen sharing it with you guys. Like
if I was feeling it and Iwasn't sharing it, that's also weird.
So thank you guys for just likenot making fun of me but supporting and
understanding. And I love you guys. Yeah. Oh, I didn't want
to just to I wasn't throwing whatis this the dustin that has joined our
(09:35):
discord? Okay, I just wantedto make sure that that's the same,
right, I finally replied, yeah, you finally replied after like three months,
three weeks. Welcome to Discord.Andrew runs YouTube and Discord. Yeah,
let's I'm all up in Discord.I'm on Discord for work and for
(09:58):
fun basically all day. So ifyou message me on there this pretty good
chance I'll respond. I will eventuallyrespond. You can count on that.
First, you have to install Discordon your computer. It's on my computer,
it's just not on my phone.Oh we'll see. Yeah, it
might be for the best. Probably. I get addicted very easily to things
(10:18):
and it's like, let me putit down. But anyway, Dustin,
I love the tattoo of the drawingfrom a specific page from a specific book,
on a specific mug and a specificsomeone. It's fantastic, along with
the very specific quote people who Yes, it's very specific to the last of
us part too. So if youdon't know about it, don't worry about
(10:41):
it. I will post. ShouldI post the image, Dustin? Do
you give me and Andrew permission topost the images either on our website,
in a blog or on Twitter.Let us know. Your silence right now
means yes, we got we gotit, We got it, we got
(11:01):
you just heard it or didn't hearit. Whatever, I love it,
love it so much perfect. Ihave to add that to my sleeve at
some point. But next email Februarytwenty third, also February twenty third from
Sakara B. I love your podcast. Thank you for going through everything in
such detail. I love the longepisodes and both your perspectives. One these
(11:26):
long episodes, what is happening? It's kuckoo bananas. It is not Koukooper.
You know what your kuban is.One thing I hoped you would touch
on last week when discussing Joel andTommy's relationship, was resentment on Joel's part
towards Tommy. Interesting. I wasthinking that Joel may feel that Tommy is
partly to blame for Sarah's death. In episode one, Joel was collecting Tommy
(11:52):
from jail and on his birthday,of all days, when he should have
been home continuing to celebrate or restwith Sarah. If Joel wouldn't have been
doing his duty to his brother orkin, he may have had a better
chance to save Sarah by getting outof the city sooner. I'd love to
hear your thoughts. Love the show. Oh that is oh Sakara, this
(12:15):
is a slippery slope and real quick. Sakara actually emailed again this is just
a quick update on March second andsaid, oh how sweet. I'm karabe
car a like a vehicle or carby. Thanks for reading my review. Seriously
awesome to know I'm not alone whenlistening to Andrew read the other reviews live
my Buttall. So I love this, like with my whole heart. So
(12:39):
Kara, love love, love thisperspective. And this is one of my
favorite things, specifically about the emailswe get for wayfarin, Like do we
love the I love your podcast.Yes, we absolutely love that stuff.
But when people like bring up specifictopics or suggestions or want to pick our
brains everything, that's where like Ilight up like a Christmas tree. So
(13:03):
this is super interesting. Not somethingI ever considered with the show. I
did think about it with the game. So people not interested in the game,
just give me like sixty seconds andI'll wrap it up. But we'll
see in the game, like Tommyshows up slightly, like right after the
soldier guns down Joel and Sarah andI always had this, like people have
(13:26):
this innate need to just find ascapegoat, like blame someone else for a
mistake that absolutely was not theirs, and not even on them either. They're
just like, if Tommy had gottenthere thirty seconds earlier, he could have
killed the soldier, and then mydaughter would still be here. And that
(13:48):
tiny little seed confestor and festor andfestor until it eventually just like turns into
a fucking redwood, and it's like, well, I fucking hate your guts
now, because why weren't you faster. I know, I shut the door
on your face and you told meto go, but why weren't you faster.
It's just like that inclination to blamesomeone else for like the really sad,
tragic things that happened in our life, even things like that that are
(14:13):
completely out of our control. Iremember personal experience when my dad got sick
and then passed away. I waslike, fuck that cancer doctor, Fuck
that whole system, Fuck insurance companies, like just everything and anything I could
blame for something that was completely outof everyone's hands. In the end,
you know, it's just that innate, fuck everything serious thing. But when
(14:37):
you talk about the show, somaybe that was two minutes when you talk
about the show and the fact thatTommy was clearly struggling with some sort of
PTSD from war or anger or justnot dealing with his experiences of being a
sniper in the military, and thushe would take it out in in violence.
(15:01):
He would be violent. I rememberthe comment vaguely that he said somebody
was acting crazy in the bar,so I had knocked him out, and
then I ended up in jail, and it made me wonder, like,
was that person in the bar alreadystarting to exhibit symptoms of the CBI the
virus kind of what I had inferred, Yeah, like that aggression that comes
(15:24):
with being infected. So like hewas doing the right thing, standing up
for someone, but it was oneof those doing the right things but wrong
at the time kind of deal.So yeah, if if he didn't do
that, then he could have gottenout the the city sooner. But would
he have left his brother behind?I don't know, Like there's so many
(15:46):
different spiders paths that can happen, but I think what was meant to happen
happened, and I think Joel probablydid blame him to some degree through the
years. It's possible, you know, could could have also been a situation
where, you know, having goneinto the city to get his brother and
(16:07):
see what has become of the city. Now he has insight into what is
happening versus being asleep on the couchand that old lady from next door just
busting the window down and biting himon the neck. See also true.
See they're like, if you changeone fucking thing one minute detail, everything
(16:30):
else changed. So there's you know, that's what I'm saying. It's a
slippery slope. We want to saythis, that or the other. But
you know, some people are hereand some people are not here. Yeah,
Joel, Joel is here, right, and it's all of the events
that have happened to have led himto this point. So there it is.
Yeah. No, but it wasa really good question question like and
(16:51):
and I love again. I lovetalking about this stuff. So thank you
so much to car or car carrab. Yeah that's so delayed. All
right, here we go. Ilove it. Got another email from February
twenty five jeff S. Jeff Swrites, Hi, Jack and Andrew,
(17:15):
I just finished listening to your episodeseven podcasts and wanted to write you a
review. The problem is that Iuse Spotify to listen, which doesn't seem
to offer the opportunity to write reviews. God damn you, Spotify. So
here's the review I would have writtenyou. If you are looking for a
Mariana's Trench depth deep dive into theworld of the Last of Us on HBO,
(17:37):
you have found your home. Thetwo hosts, a married couple,
share an unmatched love for not onlythe television show on which this podcast focuses,
but the entire Telu world. Example, they will reference unused concept art
for the games that make it intothe show in a refreshingly unique way.
Their passion for the source material andthe work being done by HBO to bring
(17:59):
it to life does not blind themto problems, inconsistencies, or changes they
aren't fans of. In other words, they are true fans, not blind
worshippers. Yes, the host isplayful, banter, occasional disagreements I don't
think that ever happened, and deepunderstanding of the characters and their motivations pull
you into the podcasts in a wayother telou podcasts do not. Each week
(18:25):
I listen to five different dealing podcasts, including the official podcast Provo Jesus Christ.
Yes, that's a lot. Eachweek, I eagerly anticipate the blue
dot appearing next to the last castin my Spotify app so I can join
them for a shared experience with peoplewho love this world and its characters as
much as I do. If youlove the last of Us on HBO,
(18:45):
give this podcast to try, youwill surely keep coming back from more.
Jack. I loved your description ofhow you feel when the show copies the
game. I feel exactly the sameway. In fact, I watch every
episode twice, back to back,as I find that I unwittingly spend much
of the first watch looking and listeningfor game references and not just letting the
(19:06):
show wash over me. The secondwatch is always much better and I just
relax and enjoy it. All thebest to you both endure and survive.
Cheers, Jeff, Thank you,Jeff. Jeff also a longtime listener,
and we've been we've been talking, talking, chatting with Jeff for a while
(19:26):
now through Wayfair. Ye, sothank you for you know, making the
jump. Yeah, I think, yeah, five podcast is a lot.
I mean they're over now, assuminglyassumed, but I never so. I
always had the intention of watching theshow first, then doing a rewatch without
(19:49):
analytical, yeah, without the baggageof my opinion and expectations, because I
think that that can really muddy ourperceptions or our reception of something that we
love so deeply. And I sobasically what we did every week when we
(20:11):
were doing The Last Kist and I'msure we talked about this, but we
would watch the show on Sunday nights, then you know, start on Monday
rewatch. I would rewatch the show, but I'd be like, start at
Paul's notes, start at Paul's notes, and it would take that would take
about four or five hours, Solike one episode, I'm not really absorbing
(20:33):
it from like without that lens. And I've I've since wanted to go back
and just do a full rewatch withouthaving to do anything, and I just
haven't done it yet because there's somuch content. It's too much right now.
It's a lot. But yeah,I think when the show copied the
game, that was when I waslike, I don't love that. But
(20:56):
when it did its own thing, that's when I felt it was exceptional and
just kind of taking something that wasjust already so beautiful and just a pre
existing beautiful property and then making itits own. I prefer that, very
much prefer that. And now,of course that the season's over, I
still very much feel that way.Well said, I agree, I don't
(21:19):
disagree. I agree good, Andthat's Andrews. You know what Andrews has
did with that comment, He likeone point five space between his letters and
like trip, like two point one. That's what you did? You just
filler. No, I was justI was making a joke about how everybody
occasionally mentions that we may disagree, which I would need proof of that.
(21:42):
I don't think that ever happened. But not to labor the point, I
don't have as much vigor as itwere for you know, those moments when
it lists closer to the game orfurther from the game. I just I
try to take it on its termsas it presents itself to me. Again,
there's no right or wrong way toconsume your media. But yeah,
(22:04):
that's you know I again, Isay it. When they do a thing
from the game, I am theLeonardo DiCaprio pointing at the television meme,
I'm like, oh, they didn't. So that's that's kind of how I
feel about that. But you know, it's it's great, It's it's I
think we can all agree it's enjoyableeither way. Yes, maybe I'm less
(22:29):
Leonardo pointing and more whatever that islike when you're like, hell, hum,
I don't know if there's a memefor that. I'm sure there is.
I don't know if there's a memefor that. Maybe I'll be the
Leonardo, but right, meme thisthis episode? Oh no, no,
it's the girl. It's the girlwho takes a sip of the soda and
then she's like, no, wellno that's me. No interesting, interesting,
(22:57):
yeah, fair enough's like it don'tlike it? Maybe no? Maybe?
Noah, we figured that's great.Yeah, that's a great mean for
that. Yes, thank you somuch Jeff for just coming along for this
journey as well and from writing in. We really appreciate it. I'm gonna
call you Jeff's plural Jeff's plural multiplejeffs. That's how I will remember Jeff's
(23:21):
m okay. Our next email comeson February twenty sixth from Shane B.
Hi, Guys, I'm Shane andI'm listening from Kansas. Well, oh
no, in the show, Iknow, are they after me? I
talked a lot of shit on theKansas City Mafiah. Andrew just like vanishes
(23:45):
like slowly fades from frame and thenhis chairs like k comes from all.
I'm like, Shane, Oh mygosh, sorry Shane. I agree with
Andrew, and one hour long deepdive is no deep dive. So I
enjoy your show thoroughly. I ama gamer, but not a player of
(24:07):
this game, but I love theshow. I plan to play the game
at some point, but finding timeis the issue. Oh LORDA no with
the issue, But did you findtime to play? I'm very curious February.
Maybe we'll see follow up. Ibelieve Shane sends a couple emails,
so we'll see. But I haveto agree, if you have high expectations
(24:29):
of something, the newer Slash, revised, Slash recreated version may be disappointing.
The only thing that comes to mindis Mary Poppins. When I close
my eyes and see Mary Poppins,I see Julie Andrews and disliked when Emily
Blunt stepped into the role, thusgiving me a negative effect on the newer
movie without even watching it. Eventhough some people enjoyed it, I think
(24:51):
it was I was quick to sayI didn't like it. With that being
said, my honest feedback for yourquestion to the at home listeners is I
could not decide whether or not Joelwould continue the journey, and here's why.
And again this references the moment inJackson where we asked everyone who didn't
play the game, did you thinkthat Joel was going to hand Ellie off
(25:12):
to Tommy and Tommy would continue thejourney or would Joel continue? So that's
what he's referencing here. I'm notsure how good the game is with showing
the passing of time, but inlive action you can see almost in real
time, the physical effect the journeyhas on Joel as it would any person.
It really shows he's tired, broken, sleep deprived, and made it
(25:33):
further in the past twenty years thenmost of humanity did, and then some.
I feel like it could be lookedat from a point of realism or
cowardice to realize quote my luck hasrun out like Tess, or for him
to be afraid to lose his newdaughter. So I could fully see him
going either way with this decision. We all have the lingering effects of age,
(25:55):
and it manifests at different times inour lives. When you're young,
it's awesome. I love doing thismiddle age, it's oof, I can't
do this like I used to.Then the older you get, at some
point you have to have the conversationwith yourself that says, yep, I
physically can't do this anymore. Sowith that, I'd say I did not
feel like Joel would undoubtedly continue onwith the journey. Just like I am
(26:17):
sure if Joel will, I'm unsureif Joel will survive the stab to the
gut. Like I said before, this man is tired and his resources are
running very low. And I thinkthe show does a good job at showing
what life and post apocalyptic living wouldbe like. It's brutal, unexpected,
fast paced, tragic, frightening, and also exciting at the same time.
(26:37):
Speaking of Emily Blunt, I feellike a Quiet Place made a very realistic
depiction of post apocalyptic living, suchas The Last of Us does. Anyway,
I love the show. I lovethe deep conversation and theorizing you both
bring to the table. I lovethat you don't always agree, and I
love that you take the extra stepand remember when you're lost in the darkness.
(27:00):
What Shane, Thank you so somuch for that email and I'm pretty
sure we have a couple more fromShane through the rest of the season that
I'm excited to get to. ButI love that you're from Kansas City.
Shane really bringing a lot of makingit real. He's brought a lot of
Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna diesomeday. Stop. That's an inside joke.
(27:27):
Andrew will randomly hit our family textmessage group with that, like in
reference, of course, to somethingthat makes sense. But yeah, it
always catches everyone off guard. Andbecause he's like, oh holy shit,
you know, so inside jokes, knock it off. I'm sorry, it's
hey, okay, that's fine, but yeah, the realism is and I
(27:49):
think that's fair because the Last ofUs takes a very realistic approach to what
the world would be like. AndI know the game a lot of the
times I've said like, oh man, I wish they could have expanded on
this. I wish they could haveshown that even some of the stuff we've
done on Wayfair and we're like, you know, Joel and Ellie stopping through
an amusement park, and then allof a sudden in the fucking show they
(28:10):
drive past an amusement park, soit's like these little I'm not saying that
I called that, but it's exactlywhat you're saying. No, I just
it's a really good point. AndI remember Craig Mason talking about, you
know, Joel is supposed to befifty four, fifty six, I can't
(28:32):
even somewhere in that neck of thewoods. Yeah, for sure, fifty
six because he was thirty six inthe beginning of the show. So he's
fifty six years old and he's outlivedhis expectancy in this world by a lot.
And you're yes, like you haveto have that conversation with yourself at
any age, without even an apocalypticpost apocalyptic world, And it's sobering and
(28:55):
it's sad because as old as yourbody can feel, sometimes your mind is
nowhere near that. So I'm surehe's come up against that a lot.
And I think looking at that particularpath, that fork in the road for
him, of does my brother takeher the last leg of this journey or
do I you know, I risklosing this new person who I don't want
(29:21):
to love or see as a daughter, but I do. Do I want
to risk losing that my physicality? Is it? There is? How's my
vision. How's my hearing? Like, you know, we learn all of
these things, am I going tobe able to protect her or me?
I think that that's all that's realismand should be considered. So I like
(29:42):
that from someone who hasn't played thegame, at least at the time of
sending this email. So yeah, yeah, again, well said. I
really have nothing to add to thatother than I don't know how this was
somehow tied together by Emily Blunt, but hey, well done on that as
well. Quiet Place, Yeah,we didn't even talk about Place excellent.
(30:02):
I haven't an excellent It's an excellentfilm, and like all great horror films,
is also an allegory for something elsethat we won't talk about. But
you know, watch it once andthen read about what it is an allegory
for and or why John Krasinski slashEmily Blunt wrote it. I think they
co wrote it, and it thenit becomes even scarier, so kind of
(30:27):
cool. Yeah. Yeah, wehaven't seen a Quiet Place too yet,
which is just sad. But I'mkind of feeling like a horror mood,
so maybe we should start doing thisstuff. Sorry, we're all we already
have a series of films that we'vebegun as of last night. And sorry,
um me and our daughter. Shestarted a disaster movie marathon in April,
(30:52):
so move as on. All right, well, I mean we'll see.
We'll run up by her what shewants to watch tonight. How's that?
Yeah? I think I know theanswer, but see two words,
Hugh, Hugh John Wick. That'swhat he's talking about. All right.
We are coming to the end ofFebruary, the penultimate email of February.
(31:17):
Here we go. This one's fromCarrie. Hi, carry Hi, Jack
and Andrew. It is. It'salways funny to me, how just as
a quick side, because we're readingthis, how people shorten your name?
Some people jack, j A CK, other people J A C and
(31:38):
still other people j Q like avery very fancy abbreviation jock. You're almost
shock at that point. Maybe maybewe go as Jock. Maybe that's how
you introduce yourself. I don't know, Carrie says, I haven't heard anyone
(31:59):
bring this up, and it's killingme. I can't be the only one
who noticed. Towards the end ofepisode five, when Joel, Ellie,
Henry and Sam get to the motel, there is a car parked out front.
The first time the parking lot isshown at night, presumably just after
the foursome arrives to spend the night. There is what appears to be a
(32:20):
white Cadillac backed into the first spotnear the stairs. Timestamp is forty eight
thirty one. This love timestamps giveme the proof give me. The second
time, the lot is shown inthe morning, directly after the sad scene
with Henry and Sam and right beforeJoel with the shovel, there is a
yellow hatchback Ford Focus pulled forward intothe same spot near the stairs. Time
(32:46):
stamp is fifty six thirty four.Cars aren't easy to come by in this
universe, so it's doubtful someone elsepulled into the motel overnight, right,
I mean it's a way, it'sa spot. Who knows? Am I
reading too much into this? Wasthis just a mistake during filming or does
it mean something else? And I'mnot able to put it put together the
pieces. I'm starting to feel crazy. Side note interesting that the second car
(33:10):
is yellow. Any who, Thankyou all for the hard work you put
into Wayfaring. In the last cast. It is great to listen to the
in depth analysis you go into todissect each detail and unravel hidden meaning in
the storytelling choices for both the gameand the show. I personally can't wait
until you get back, Oh,get to part two analysis, as I'm
(33:30):
dying to hear Jack's undiluted thoughts. Please don't hold back. Some of us
fully agree with you. Thanks forreading. Carrie. We don't even know
how Jack feels about part two.Yes, she hasn't gotten to that yet.
How could you fully agree with anopinion that you haven't heard on the
show yet. It's impossible to knowthese things. Maybe Carrie has listened to
(33:54):
Wayfaring, where I express some vibes. It's impossible. It's impossible to have
a definitive definition, definitively of howyou feel about the Last of Us Part
two. Is it imposible? Youknow? I mean I you would We
would need Colombo to figure it out. What a timely reference I just pulled
(34:16):
out of my ass Ben Walt Blanc. Let's go with someone a little bit
more modern, Ben wall Blanc.Compelli again, a movie that you haven't
watched. No, you didn't likeit. I did like. It's just
not my thing barely counts. That'sinteresting. Carrie, I would say reshoots
(34:45):
probably, Oh yeah, I wouldsay mmmm yeah. I would almost on
chalk this up to reshoots where theywere able to secure the same location but
at a much later time where theymay not have had access to the same
(35:05):
props that they did and they hadto just kind of make do with what
they had. But good eye,I love that stuff. Yeah, that
is a that's a level of detailthat I get to when we're in multiple
There are certain techniques that happen infilmmaking that I love and I pick up
(35:25):
on like right away, Like Ilove a Warner And it's like like as
soon as we cut to a scene, I'm counting. I started, like
my brain just starts counting, likehow long until we cut to the next
thing that we do? Sure?Is this a Warner we just saw?
I won't spoil. We just watchedthe show where I was like, there
was like a pretty amazing one shotwhich was just like follow cut, follow,
(35:47):
no cuts. Sorry, it's likea follow turn follow, follow,
And it was like, oh,the it's a beautiful choreography. Yeah,
Ted Lasso, That's all right, fine, it's Ted Lasso. Yeah,
this is a show that definitely costa lot of money, and they I'm
sure they did the thing where theywere like, oh, we could probably
(36:07):
digitally change that car to the whiteone, or maybe Cary will notice.
Well, I'm curious now if anybodyelse did notice this. No, do
we get any other emails about it? We'll see No, we didn't get
it. Yeah, I am goingto go to those time stamps as as
(36:28):
we're done recording, because I amsuper curious about this. But I like
what I'm curious about. Carrie,if you feel like writing in again,
why do you think it's interesting thatthe second car is yellow? So we
all know? Yeah, well, what dollow symbol of happiness. I don't
(36:49):
think a lot of happiness happened inthat motel, though ultimately it was you
know, I think a Taale triumphin the end. Wow, Andrew just
said fuck Henry and Sam shit atthe end of the show. Look there's
Jackson. We're all happy, right, No one's sad, No, no
one's suspicious. Correct, it's ahappy, happy ending. Is not correct?
(37:15):
Good Lord, I'm gonna stop thatnow. But Carrie, thank you
so much for writing in. Ican't wait to actually go to check out
this this car situation. I agreewith Andrew. I think it was probably
reshoots. I don't think it wasan intentional thing. Yeah, a lot
of oversight happens on TV shows andmovies and things where you know, oh,
there's a boom micer, Oh there'sthe foot of like the guy carrying
(37:37):
the camera. Because yeah, rememberin the Last of Us that wide shot
of Joel and Ellie crossing the bridge. They have since digitally edited it out
the truth, but there was agroup of people down by the tree line
in the snow, just like chilling, and the upper tree line also yeah,
(38:00):
was like but it was just thehow high is the drone? Yeah,
don't worry, guys, you're outof the shot. Yeah, okay,
they were, Oh I see it. So I think these things just
happen no matter how big a productionis. Remember a Game of Thrones and
the it was not a Starbucks cup. It was just a coffee cup in
(38:22):
front of Kelly, and then everyoneblew up and of course it got you
know, swiped from memory. ButI still have those screenshots. There are
when you're on set, and notthat I've been on many sets, but
I've been on enough to know whenyou are in that moment. Seven hundred
thousand things have to happen. Yeah, right, there are so many people
(38:46):
running around and doing shit, solike it doesn't surprise me that, like
when somebody's just chilling like this orwhatever, or like that drone shot that
we were just talking about, likethe drone up rader was so laser focused
on making sure that Joel and Elliecrossing the bridge were in frame, in
(39:07):
focus, that the tracking was right. Yeah, it's like just tunnel vision.
You're not even looking at that. And I can see how an editor
and everybody else would feel, youknow, like all the way down the
line, you're like, here's whatwe're supposed to be focused on. You
really do you need that person that'slike, what are we not supposed to
be focused on? Yeah, I'dbe great at that and carry to hire
(39:29):
us. Yeah, it's like that. You know, we've we've hidden six
objects in this page. I lovethat would find the differences. You know,
there are six differences, you know, like a Lisa Frank kind of
thing going on. So this willprobably be the last one we're going to
round out February. February comes toan end. Yes, we did it.
(39:52):
We did one month today when wefinished a month because we started in
our first episode. Anyway, thisis from Mary A Hi, Jack and
Andrew. I love your podcast. My husband and I have been watching the
show, but neither of us knewanything about the game going into this,
except that it existed. You askeda question in your last episode about Joel
convincing Tommy to take Ellie to Coloradoand whether we thought Joel would change his
(40:16):
mind. Here it is again.I love it. So neither of us
thought Joel would actually change his mind, but both of us thought something was
going to happen overnight that would makeit so Joel had to go. Then
when they showed the next morning andnothing had happened, we were like,
okay, maybe Tommy is going. And then of course Joel was there with
(40:37):
the horses emotional roller coaster. Iguess unrelated. Oh look at this.
I'm a Kansas Citian. You shoulddefinitely come out here sometime and try the
barbecue. There are many different choicesfor whatever you're interested in. Mary,
we are on Lowa all right, yeah, podcast Hoover, Yeah, I
(40:58):
know, we gotta go. Sorry, guys right, going to Kansas City
just got invited. I love it? Or is this a trap from the
Kansas City Mafia. I don't knowyet. It could be a trap worth
it though for some BBQE chicken.I guess I agree. You agree with
my death that it's okay for barbecuechicken. I agree that barbecue chicken is
worth whatever ill will may befall uswhen we get there. It's worth everything.
(41:27):
It's like Mary, thank you somuch for writing in. We really
appreciate the love for our podcast, and I love that you guys knew about
the game but have not played itand you just dove right in with the
show. Thank you for responding toour question about Joel and Tommy and Ellie
and what would kind of happen withthat, Just to I'll keep it quick
because I feel like I'm taking allthe answers today. But I never even
(41:51):
thought of the possibility of will somethinghappen overnight that forces or compels Joel to
have to stay and thus take Ellieto Colorado, UEC whatever. But that's
interesting. I'm curious to know becauseyou said something was going to happen,
(42:12):
then they showed us that nothing happened, So I'm curious what you guys thought
might have happened. Because I lovemusing on that stuff too, So yeah,
but I love that. That's thethere are Even a casual watcher of
television is aware of the fact thattropes exist, and so you know,
you would something might happen overnight, maybe they get rated, or maybe Tommy
(42:37):
gets hurt or something, you know, like like what is the impetus here?
Maybe Maria it's a man are fullor like whatever the case may be.
Right, those are the things thatwe kind of our conditioned to expect
because we don't want our main charactersto be separated, at least not for
any extended period of time. Sure, and so yeah, it's always interesting
(43:00):
to kind of to think about thosethings sometimes like this, like this,
in the case of this show,it is refreshing when it doesn't have to
be anything right, rather than thecharacter has had a change of heart.
Yes, I love that. Sothat was you know, brought on by
many conversations, right, it wasconvinced. He was convinced. Yeah,
(43:22):
but even if you remember that thatmoment of him sitting down on the bed
after basically you know you're not mydaughter, and our shows helling your dad
that whole thing. Then he goesinto his bedroom for the night kind of
sits on the edge of the bedand he and there's just that look of
instant regret, of course, andjust that like when we feel cruel and
(43:43):
we know that we did something wrongeven while we're doing it, we're like,
I know this fucking wrong. Whyam I doing this kind of thing?
But again, fear is a greatmotivator, unfortunately, and I think
it won out for the time beingduring that conversation. But I think on
our show we were like Joel probablydidn't sleep well that night, right,
(44:04):
and just wheels were going burning thecandle at you know, both ends and
the sides, like it was justthis was the only thing that he was
going to do, inevitably. Butit is interesting to think, like,
while he's sitting on the edge ofhis bed contemplating knowing that he fucked up,
what if raiders somehow breached that youknow, kind of air of uh,
(44:28):
we don't cross the river because you'reyou don't fucking come back, Like
that kind of reputation that Jackson hasfrom people that live relatively close to them.
It's like, you know, wedon't fuck around and find out,
you know, like what if somethingdid happen? I think that that's a
yeah, that would that's great.I love it. I love this is
this is I told you light uplike a Christmas Tory retreat. Ye,
(44:53):
So yeah, yeah, that's great. We did it February. Yeah,
we did January February, and wehave a lot in March, so two
episodes. Yeah, it seems like, well, no, then if we
have a lot in March, thenI was going to say one episode for
each month, but that's clearly notgoing to be true. So sun of
(45:16):
Oh my god, I'm scrolling throughMarch. What duff I told you you
were like, we had a lotof emails on February twenty third, but
I go to March twenty first, then I'm like, holy shit, one,
two, three, four, five, that was the finale. That
was the finale episode. That's whysix good yeah, good god, good
(45:42):
god man. And then we haveyou know, a pretty beefy mountain April
and a couple in May. Soyeah, all right, yeah, so
thank you to everyone who has writtenin that we've already covered again we have
well, there will be another shownext week with more emails and uh,
(46:04):
and then eventually we're going to moveon to that entangled life conversation talking about
the book and stuff like that.So all that nitty gritty. Yeah,
if you heard your name, ifyou heard your email, you know,
feel free to hit us up onthe discord or or right in with just
you know. Did our answers pleaseyou? Yes? Or did they leave
(46:27):
more to be desired? Did wepose more scenarios? Do you have more
questions? Why is it interesting thatthe car is yellow? I need to
know that. There are some thingswe need to know also we need to
know. Please Carrie, please please, Oh my gosh, with that sloop,
I actually might loosely you know me, but I'm just sitting in bed
(46:54):
yellow? Why is it yellow?God? Why is it stay a yellow?
I can make Oh god, nowI'm sitting in the corner. I'm
gonna suffer. It's just like avery harsh overhead light smoking a cigar.
It's yellow, but it's gotta be. Why is it yellow? Yes,
(47:17):
that's what's going to happen. Areyou surprised at all? No? Not
at all? Oh man, Wellgood, I'm glad that I can't at
least consistent. So if you guyswould like to connect with us, you
can do that over on Instagram attlou Podcasts. I still have that series
(47:38):

whether it's for the last cast orWayfair and Strangers. Either way,
you get shouted out and we talka little bit about you and stuff like
that. So that's great. Ifyou're on Spotify, you know, apparently
(50:38):
they still have not figured out away to put reviews on their platform.
I know they're hurting for money.I know that they. I mean,
you know, they were relatively smallstreaming platform, Spotify. So you know,
there's what can we do. Hitthe five stars. Share with your
friends. That's just another great wayto bring more people into the fold,
if you think they would like thissort of thing that we do over here,
(51:00):
where we always agree, we haveno differing opinions. I don't even
agree with that. Yes, ohI agree with you. I agree with
you that that's not true. Yeah, that's it. Please please review.
Um, that would be great.Yeah, how does it feel? I
thought about having more to say afterthat, but I was like that that
