M. Welcome to the Old TimeRadio Westerns. I'm your host Andrew Rhines,
and let's get into this episode. This episode is going to be the
Lone Ranger. Original Ardie is Decembertenth, nineteen forty three, and the

(00:23):
title is Dan Reid's Adventure. Let'sget into it, and I hope you
enjoy Siber a fiery horse with aspeed of light, a cloud of dust,

(00:53):
and a hearty hio silver. Alond Ranger, Arnold Gearson, whose

(02:34):
wealth reached out to develop the vastresources of the far West, decided to
sec at the heart of the BarbaryCoast. In an effort to stamp out
the viciousness. Gearson sought for andfound the Lone Ranger. This masked rider
of mystery, though reluctant to leavethe plains and mountains of the Cattle Country,
answered the call and smashed the forcesof evil in the Barbary Coast.

(02:54):
His work in San Francisco finished,Tahoe, and the mask Man headed north
for the gold fields and the landof Big Timber. Return with us now
of those thrilling days of yesteryear, from out of the past, from the
thundering hoofpeaks of the great horse Silver, the Lone Ranger rides again in coming

(03:29):
to California. The Lone Ranger haddone many things to win the lasting friendship
of Arnold Gearson, and for allhis services to the great financier and empire
builder, the masked Man had requestedbut one small favor at his nephew,
Dan Reid, be allowed to attendschool with Gearson's boy Bob. The favor
was speedily granted. At first, young Dan felt only an overpowering loneliness for

(03:53):
the companionship for the Lone Ranger inTatto, but through his own eager interest
in learning, he quickly fell intothe orderly routine of scholastic light. I
got a letter this afternoon, Bob, from the Lone Ranger, Jimmy,
where's he now? If I wonderwhat he had terable or not? So
fast? Listen, I haven't hada chance to read it yet, but
it's postmark plaster city. That's something. The gold Fields, gee, that

(04:14):
should be exciting. I'll bet thoseso called bad men were plenty scared of
the Lone Ranger back there on theplains. Some of them are so called
bad man, Bobman. Some arereally dangerous killers, but one thing,
whether they feared him or not, they all had a healthy respect for his
fighting ability. Stayed out of hisway as much as possible. I wouldn't
blame him. There was one crookback there, though, man named Burly

(04:36):
Myers. Boy, when the lonerayer got after him, I'll bet there
wasn't a more frightened outlaw and awhole southwest. Yeah, what happened,
Well, it all began a littlecattle town rio junction was dead on the
Rio Grandy River. H This fellowMyers worked in Cohoers with a gambler named
Farall Frazier. You're just about controleverything in town. One day, the

(04:59):
lone ranger said, a tunnel onme and a rio meet a fellow by
the name of Rocky Larmer later turnedoff the bed. Yeah, golly,
tunnel, sure is a small town. How I'm not big enough? And
how boys come here on pay dayplenty bad? I'm have any law here.

(05:26):
I wonder what that crowd is gatheredfor. We better stop tight horses
here. And I tell you thatrobby this morning, we're done by somebody
right here in the real junction.I reckon, y'all got your own ideas.
Who that somebody is. Sounds likethere's been a robbery here tonnel,
maybe, so we gotta better golook for Look, then you see big

(05:50):
Feller in crown. Yeah, youmean the one standing back in the age.
I fellow, we come to me, I Rocky Larama. Yeah,
it looks like he could take careof the town has gone hardwire for long
enough. We've actually governor three timesto send us a regularman, and so
far we ain't got any. SoI reckon it's high time we took over

(06:11):
the job our own chown. Yeah, that's some speech you're making. Ross,
give us some more. Tell themall about the big bad wolf,
why don't you? There won't bemuch speech making, Burly Myers. And
you can tell that tin horned bossof yours that I said so and passed
the word amongst the boys meeting inmy house tonight. We either got to

(06:31):
stop paring a bunch or else getout of town. George's right, fellows,
listen if we don't get organized againstthem, Kyle Snow and must as
well quiet one misdifle. He's whatyou was saying, might swell? What?
Well? Get your hand off?And that shooting nine Burly he ain't
packing no gun. That's too bad, ain't it? Great? Big fool

(06:53):
grown jasper like him? Or toleave the house without a shooting night.
Yeah, then you could use that, mister, instead of shooting off your
mouth. Be careful with that gun, Burly. There's lots of witnesses here,
sure is too many. If Iwas too to move that fancy shirt

(07:15):
button over your left hand pocket, that'd be one less witness in town,
wouldn't it sort of a pastime ofmine splitting people's shirt buttons? You there
like, I'm my assured mister badman. Lots of buttons buttons with six guns
and backup? Don't you like thatkind I don't know who you are,

(07:40):
stranger, but you're button into somethingthat's none of your business. Savvy,
I'm here to make it my business. Yeah, yeah, Now you can
either put that gun away or trypulling the trigger in that case yourself.
Let that be awarding you, Mavericks. Don't go getting smart with Burley Miers.

(08:11):
Well, Bob, it happened justthat fast. One minute, Rocky
Larmer was standing in front of BurleyMyers. The next moment he was dead
in the street. Chimney, RockyLarmer was a man you and Tonna were
supposed to meet, wasn't he?There wasn't anything for us to do except
find the lone ranger and tell himwhat had happened. But first we went
over to the general store, whichwas run by George Ross, the man

(08:33):
who had been talking against Pharaoll Frasierwhen the trouble started. I tell you
the county ain't fit perditionful to more, ain't never been any more here,
likely never will be. No,you're wrong, Feller law here today?
What are you talking about? Ejanyou good man? ME tell you Feller
get killed in gunfight in Rocky Larrimer. United States Marshals? What that stranger

(08:56):
or United States Marshal? Why areyou not charge? Listen? I thought
I just got killed in the gunfightwith Burley Myers. Burley never shot him
at all, backing, No,sir, that stranger was shot in the
back. Someone in the crowd workingin cohoust with Burley must have fired the
shot. And all the excitement andeverything we all figured Burly shot him.
See why the dirty murder here? They are looking for more trouble. Watch

(09:22):
out what you say? Well, what's on your mind? Pharaoh, I,
Burly here said you had a messagefor me. Must be I didn't
get straight. I figured I giveit to him straight enough. Must be
some mistake, Oh, Burley saidthat you said it was time for some

(09:43):
action around town way. I figureyou're doing right well here with your store
keeping alone. Ain't nobody of botheringas I can see, And whatever actions
called for his town, me andmy boys can handle without no help.
You understand you're backing up the wrongtree, Pharaoh. I don't scare easy.

(10:05):
It's too bad for you, Burly. I see if you can scare
George just a little bit. Watchme, Pharaoh. I've been wanting to
lay into this loud mouth for clutterspell. Now don't start nothing here,
Burly. I am one, andyou yes, sure. Hey, looky
here, Pharaoh, a whole niceshell full of soap? Now, ain't

(10:31):
that an awful thing to have somuch of? In a rip roaring tone
like rio, you hammered a glut. You're trying to rick my store y.
See, Pharaoh, he learns fast. Only George wants action, Burly,
give him lots of it, bythe great cat. Free of you
hoodlums. Think you can come inhere and pull them high. Hannah Shenatigans

(10:52):
you got another gun at the kindof actually been craving, George, you're
gonna pay for that, Pharaoh.Sure, let's see some reaction. Burly,
let me see you make hash outof this bunch of groceries. Watch
me. I'll just start at oneend and clean it up. You feller.
I'm Moose. Well, look atwho's giving the order you men?

(11:16):
Get out? I'm moose quick.Looks like somebody else needs educating. Burly,
yes, bus it, sure itdoes? Well? Get does he
educate them? Bust of easy?Critter in two came here. You're saving
red skin. I'll kill you withmy two hands. You'll not killing me,

(11:37):
Feller me looking at you? Whatyou bad man? Uh? You're
not bad. You only smell badboy. You'll know down and you'll keep
out in this crowder. You can'tshot when I get through with you.
You fight like six squad. You'renot fit for me. Man redeam like,

(12:03):
oh man here, till my manhere and enjoy some relax. He
Oh wait, oh wait, don'tdon't hit me. No lord, bad
man. You even look like sixsquads. You hear what the Indian's doing

(12:26):
said he looked like a sixth squawman. He still does. If he
asked me, come, I'm burningit up and let's see how many teeth
he got left? Come down,we go him an awful go over me,
go get holds. You're playing RossFeller, tell him get many men
together, old meeting tonight. Hey, where did indian go to? Hey,

(12:48):
I've just seen him hit not todo a minit to go listen to
fellowsh You know who that redskin is. He's a part of the old Rangers
and he just sent me word bythe kid for us to be sure to
hold I'm eating tonight. Get himCome on, Bil, listen, they're

(13:11):
gonna see you quick. Hey,what's the idea of busting in my private
office at Botfield? You too,Bernie, quit your slopper and say what
you gotta say? What about theengineer? Listen? You are Ross and
the boys that skive me life. They knew him working for you, going
to the meetings over my mind,George Ross, What about the Indian?
Him and the kid? They're partsof the little name that's a ranger.

(13:33):
He's skinning left word for us togo ahead and hold the meeting tonight,
like George was talking about. Thenhim and the kid high kided out of
town. Which way he was ridingthe South trail shooting. They'll be coming
back to South trail only gets yourrifle. I hustle up, your big
fool. Ain't no one of thatred skin made you look like a ten
cent tough guy. And listen, fair on my foot slip shut out by

(13:56):
seeing the fight, didn't I witha shotgun in my back? Now listen,
We've stopped three longmen from stooping aroundhere, and we sure don't want
this lone ranger robbery coming in.Now, what are you figuring to do?
You get your horse, get outin that South trail and lay up
in the rock someplace. Emmy, when you see that mask manninis Pards heading

(14:16):
towards town, use your rifle anddon't miss what about you? Are you
gonna be? I am going tothat meeting Burley and see if I can
give the boy some good advice.Six gun advice. You get busy and
ten of your chores in a southtrail and remember, don't miss fair oll

(14:37):
I ne remiss with a rifle. Not Ever, the curtain falls on the
first act of our Lone Ranger,Gramma. Before the next exciting scenes,
please promit us to pause for justa few womens now to continue our story.

(16:04):
In his room at school in California, Dan Reid was telling his friend
Bob Gearson of an adventure he'd sharedwith the Lone Ranger and Totto on the
plains of the Cattle Country. Jimminy, I'll bet if Rocky Larmer was the
United States Marshal, he and theLone Ranger were good friends. Huh,
yes, Bama. They'd been friendsfor a long time. And when Tono
told him how Rocky was killed bya shot in the back, the Lone

(16:27):
Ranger just got up and started settlingsilver. He didn't say a word all
the while we were telling him aboutthe fight ton ahead with Burley Myers,
or the meeting the townsmen had plannedfor that night. And then he turned
to me and said, very quietly, then you'd better stay here in camp
and rest up. I don't know, I may have some unpleasant work ahead,

(16:48):
yes, sir, you see thenI happen to know that every time
the people of Rio Junction wrote tothe governor for law enforcement, he said,
a man out here, okay,Laram it was a third one.
But why should anyone kill a man, for we're just trying to enforce the
law. He goes men who maketheir living by cheating and stealing from honest

(17:10):
men. Such men hate the lawall that it stands for, and in
the end they try to cover theirown crimes by killing any Tatto. Are
you ready tell you all about it? Let me get back then, yes,
sir, I'll be watching for you, but I got some sleep and
not wait up for us. I'mlooking well, Bob. That's how I

(17:37):
got the rest of the story fromwhat the lone ranger in Tatto told me
later. It was just about sunsetwhen they rode away, when they covered
about half the distance to tom Hud. Remember the dust cloud we were watching
a few moments ago. Huh.One writer come and he passed from town

(18:00):
Strange. There's no sign of anyrider on the trail ahead. I wonder
if there wasn't any other trail offthis one between here and Rio? Is
there no? M last we sawthat dust thought it was going in those
rocks about a half a mile ahead. No, it stopped that bad place
for ambush. That's what I wasthinking. Another one hundred yards. This

(18:22):
trail will be in plain sight fromany point up there. Come on,
I got through this revening circle backto the trail on the other side.
I'm on silver upside, and Ishot picked myself an uncomfortable place to watch

(18:42):
for him. Mass man Dad,I hope that means you redskins with him.
I'm only putting a slug in hisKrakis said, hurry up that.
Yes, I'll take care of thatalone. Ranger Jin for Pharaoh. You

(19:10):
know I'll take care of the engine. Learn to care for yourself. Be
careful. I don't want to shootyou until you've answered some questions. You
sorry we didn't ride up the trail, Barley, I'm add I am a
good oh. I think you'd bettertalk. Who kill Rocky Larmer? I

(19:30):
killed him in a fair fight? You're lying. You never saw the day
you could stand up to an honestman in a fair fight. Who kill
Rocky? Go and find out you'sso smart? That's right to make those
ropes tad enough to last for awhile. I'm a hunter, But other
lawman killed in rio junction? Whatdo you know about admirers? Any a

(19:52):
business? One thing more? Whotipped you off to watch this trail for
todding me ain't telling you, youknow, I ain't gonna tell you a
rope slip huh burn a little tightertoo. No, wait a minute,
No, it was ed Heartwell toldus he's one of Ross as much as

(20:14):
as I thought. That's ten enoughtoo. Come on, let's be going
already. Came a sabby. Hey, your fellows aren't right off and leave
me tight up here? Are you? Why not? What? Hello?
Ba jacket? I always heard theLone Ranger was a kind hearted on bray,
I don't believe everything you're here,burly, I'm oh, but hey,

(20:34):
listen, nights coming on in theserocks is full of wolves and mountain
lions. Yeah yeah, and rattlesnakestoo at home. Hold on till Germany
did the Lone Ranger leave? BrillieMyers tied up there in the rocks all
night? Yep, and Bob.When daylight came, there wasn't a more

(20:56):
frightened out lawn a whole southwest, you see. He and Toto rode away
from there as fast as they could, and then a short distance away they
stopped. The Lone Ranger sent Tontoback to watch Burley. Oh, we'll
talk about so called bad man beingscared. You see Tomo crawled back into
the rocks where Burly was tied.Yeah, and honestly, you should have

(21:17):
heard the invitations Donald gave the wholewolves howling and mountain lions snarling, and
rattlesnakes buzzing all around the camp.See, Burley Myers must have died a
thousand deaths before daylight. Meanwhile, the lone Ranger rode into Rio to attend
that meeting and incidentally settled with FarrellFrasier even in Jens. Yeah, boys,

(21:40):
you make me feel mighty bad here. I am one of the leading
citizens of Riol. I don't evenget an invitation of this get together.
You've got a lot of nerve bustedin here, Fraser. It's about time
you fellas learned. I got lotsof nerve. Any place I would I
come here for was to give you, Jim some real friendly advice. See
what kinds of the first? Well, we don't want any pharaoh. Get

(22:06):
out, Get out and stay out. Ross. You've been bothering me a
long time. Too long. Itried to reason with you once before Today
this time I intend to make yousee things my way. I'm not afraid
of you, Pharaoh, even withthe six gun in your fist. And

(22:26):
I know you're skunk enough to shoot, so you better either shoot or get
out. Either way, you'll beall through in Rio junction. Yeah,
how are you figure? Never mind? You're coming up against a man pis
Soon who's been exposed to snakes likeyou before, and he knows I handle
him. If you're referring to theLone Range, you're George. You're you're

(22:47):
betting on a dead horse. Buthow how do I know about him?
Never mind, George, he won'tbe here, and if he was,
I'd settle his hash just like I'mgoing to settle yours. Oh you're Chance
Faro the mash Man. You Sam, he's cap the Lone Ranger. You
have a gun in your hand.Let's see you use it. Sure,

(23:08):
cure master, I'll use it rightnow. Did you see that? Shut
the gun right out of his hand? Barrel? Have the drop out of
the beginning with oh shut up,damn blast, you're not hurt, mash
Man. You sure got here justin time. Another minute that buzzard would
have drilled me. For sure. You must be George Ross Yeah, that's
me. But among you is edheartwell Ed. Hot way, it's me.

(23:32):
Don can thank this trader for Fraser'ssuccess. Well, hold on a
minute. You mean Heartwellers on Fraser'spayroll? Holy memory thing that took place
at these meetings? Why you dirtydog head? Oh he George, he's
not too hus farrow, He askedme, Sure it's true? Are you
all right? I saw you shootthe stringe in the back this morning?

(23:55):
You still cut that ding in yoursleep? I look into the least wood.
That's the end of your traitor.Well he ain't leave him alone.

(24:15):
He sure took Pharaoh Fraser with himwherever he's gone. The only justices men
ever knew was six gun justice, and I for one hope that's the end
of six gun law in this town. Just ting mass man. These two
critters both dead, You still haveto clean up the rest of the game.
Too bad one of them couldn't havelived long enough to tell us the
names of the rest. I thinkI can help your good information. Yeah,

(24:37):
how Phraser's right hand man, EarlyMyers, got your horses and meet
me on the South trail. Haveidea, mister Myers will be more than
willing to talk. Well, Bob, the loon ranger in the townsman rode
out to that place in the rockswhere he and taugh I left Burly Myers

(25:00):
tied up, and on the waythe lone ranger told them about how he
left Tattle back there to watch Burlyand to scare him as much as he
could. When they got near theplace, Tattle rode out to meet them.
I don't know how good that engineis. It imtains mountain lions and
rider snakes and such, but hesure gave Burley a good imitation of a
wildcat. And actually down to mystore yesterday. It comes two to meet

(25:22):
us. Now we did Burly appreciateyour entertainment. Him plenty scared, and
maybe he'll be willing to talk.I'm trying to think him willing to do
anything to get away from here.Come on, let's find out. Come

(25:55):
on, endless way he get meout of here? Who are you going?
Comp me? Look out the places? Pull a well, animals listens,
please please untime me let me getout of here. No, not
yet. We were just riding throughBurley and thought we'd stop to see if
you were all right. Looks allright? Hasn't he done him? Look

(26:17):
no, no, no, no, don't leave me here? No more.
Well, we couldn't tell you,Burley, that is, if you
think you'd care to talk to MarshallRoss here Marshall's Ross about it? Burly?
Care to talk? Yeah? Yeah, I don't only get these ropes
off. I mean, I'll talk. I'll talk all you want. O.
Wait a minute, mash Man,what's this Marshall Ross business about?

(26:38):
Yeah? This is the United States? Marshall's beads that Laramo was wearing when
he came to real Junction. Itook it from Farrell Fraser's body. He
the governor did send three men eachtime you wrote for help. He sent
a man to reel. Rocky wasthe last one. When the governor sent
me along to help out. I'msorry I didn't get here, and I

(27:00):
don't prevent Rocky's murder. But whatabout this Marshal's badge? The Governor gave
me full authority to establish law andorder in Rio in case anything happened to
the regular Marshal. Well, theway you talked to Faraoll Fraser, I
know that you have the honesty encouragedto do the job. Yeah, take
this badge and wear it. Doggone. Now we gotta build us a

(27:26):
jailhouse, and Big Burnie's going tobe our first customer. Man. I
ain't never seen the human being soscared off by born days. Hey,
Marshal George, ask the Mashman yourself, Jed if you can catch him well
dog gone. He didn't even waitfor us to thank him for what he
done, and I reckon the LoneRanger gets his reward from seeing a job
done like it should be. Adiosmash Man. The story you have just
