Speaker 1 (00:03):
Calarogu Shark Media, Welcome back to the Messy Effect. I'm
Jamie Rudd. Saturday delivered exactly what we've come to expect
from this tournament goals, drama and plenty of late game chaos.
We had a seven goal thriller, dramatic comebacks and one

(00:23):
group that's now completely wide open heading into the final
match day. Let's break it all down. Let's start with
the absolute madness that was Dortmund versus Mammelodi Sundowns. After
that disappointing zero zero draw with Fluminensey on Tuesday, Dortmund
certainly found their scoring boots in spectacular fashion, but boy

(00:44):
did they make it harder than it needed to be.
Sundown's actually took the lead through Lucas Ribero Costa in
the eleventh minute, and for a moment you're thinking, here
we go again, another upset brewing, but Dortmund responded brilliantly
with three straight goals from Felix Mecha, Serjoguirasi and Joe Bellingham.

(01:05):
Yes that's Jude's younger brother making his mark on the
world stage. Then Mammalodi made things worse for themselves with
Culliso Mudao deflecting a cross into his own net at
four one. You'd think that was game over, but Sundown's
had other ideas. Ikuram Rainers pulled one back in the
sixty second minute, and then in the most dramatic fashion possible,

(01:29):
Labo Matheba scored at the ninety minute mark to set
up a frantic finish. If there had been more time,
or if that own goal hadn't happened, Sundowns might have
actually pulled off an incredible comeback. As it stands, Dortmund
get the three points they desperately needed, but they'll have
some serious defensive questions to answer. Inter Milan came into

(01:51):
this tournament with something to prove after that five zero
humiliation by PSG in the Champions League final. Instead of
making a statement, they've been stumbling through this group stage,
and Saturday nearly turned into a complete disaster. After dropping
points to Monterey in a one to one draw. On Tuesday,
Into found themselves behind again when Urahwa's Takuro Kaneko produced

(02:15):
some lovely footwork to set up Rioma Watanabe, who unleashed
a fierce strike past Yan Summer just eleven minutes in.
For a team of Inter's caliber, going behind to both
Monterey and Urawa in consecutive games should be ringing alarm bells,
but captain Lotaro Martinez stepped up when his team needed
him most, leveling the score in the seventy eighth minute

(02:38):
with a magnificent strike. Then, in the drama we've come
to expect from this tournament, fellow Argentine Valentine Carbony scored
the winner in stoppage time to keep Inter's hopes alive.
It wasn't pretty, but sometimes champions find a way to
win ugly. The loss eliminates Urawa Red Diamonds, but Inter
still have work to do. They face River Plate in

(03:00):
their final group game on Wednesday, and they'll need to
be much better than this. Speaking of comebacks, FLUMINENCI staged
one of their own against South Korean champions Ulsan HD,
and it was absolutely crucial for their tournament hopes. Fluminensi
took the lead through John Arias in the twenty seventh minute,
but Ulson responded brilliantly. In the first half, Jin Hyun

(03:24):
Lee equalized with a sharp finish, and then Umwan Sang
produced a skillful header to give the Korean side a
two to one lead. At the break after being held
scoreless in their opener against Dortmund, Fluminenci finally found their
attacking rhythm in the second half. Nonato's thunderous strike leveled
things up in the sixty sixth minute, and then Juan

(03:45):
Frights and Keno sealed the comeback to keep their knockout
hopes very much alive. This result puts Ulsan on the
brink of elimination, but more importantly, it means we have
another Brazilian side showing they can compete with anyone at
this tournament. The day's only scoreless draw came at the
Rose Bowl, where River Plate and Monterey played out a

(04:07):
tense tactical battle that has left Group E completely wide open.
River fresh off that three to one win over Urawa
and needing a victory to book their spot in the
round of sixteen, were once again sparked by seventeen year
old sensation Franco Mastantuono, but they just couldn't find a
way past a disciplined Monterey backline led by the ever

(04:30):
composed Sergio Ramos. Monterey, who showed quality in their one
to one opener against Inter, leaned on their defensive shape
and experience. It wasn't pretty football, but it was effective.
They frustrated Rivers, many fans in attendance, and kept their
own hopes of advancing alive. The result means Group E

(04:52):
is now hanging in the balance heading in to the
final match day. Every team still has something to play for,
which is exactly what you want in a group stage.
It's halftime. Let's take a break and come back and
look at Sunday's matches. Now, let's look ahead to Sunday,
because we've got some absolute blockbuster fixtures coming your way,

(05:15):
headlined by two of the biggest names in world football.
The headline act of Sunday has to be Real Madrid
taking on Mexican side Patchuca at Bank of America Stadium
in Charlotte. Los Blancos are making their tournament debut and
all eyes will be on how Carlo Ancelotti's side approach
this competition. Real Madrid come into this tournament as one

(05:38):
of the heavy favorites, and rightly so. They've got the
star power, the experience and the winning mentality. But Pachuca
shouldn't be underestimated. Mexican teams have shown they can compete
at this level and they'll be looking to make a
statement against the most successful club in Champions League history.

(05:58):
This is Pachuca's chance to announce themselves on the world stage.
They know their massive underdogs, but that can sometimes be liberating.
Real Madrid will be expected to win comfortably, but as
we've seen throughout this tournament, expectations don't always match reality.
The late game features defending Club World Cup champions Manchester

(06:19):
City taking on UAE side al Aine at Mercedes Benz
Stadium in Atlanta. City are looking to defend their title
and show that their Champions League triumph and previous Club
World Cup victory wasn't a fluke. Pep Guardiola's side have
the tactical, sophistication and individual quality to go all the
way again. Alien will be hoping to follow in the

(06:42):
footsteps of some of the other underdogs who have caused
upsets in this tournament. They're representing Asian football and will
want to show they belong on this stage. Earlier in
the day, we've got Juventus taking on widad Ac at
noon in Philadelphia. Uventus will be looking to make a
statement in their first match, while the Moroccan champions will

(07:04):
be hoping to spring another upset and Sandwiched between the
Madrid and City games, we have RB Salzburg facing Al
Hilal at six pm in Washington. Salzburg have been one
of the surprise packages in European football in recent years,
while Al Hilal bring that Saudi Arabian investment and ambition.

(07:24):
Based on what we've seen so far in this tournament,
don't be surprised if at least one of these sure
things doesn't go according to plan. That's been the beauty
of this Club World Cup. It's been completely unpredictable. I'm
Jamie Rudd and that's your Saturday recap and Sunday preview.
As always, we'll be back tomorrow to break down all

(07:45):
the action. Don't forget to subscribe and follow us for
all your Club World Cup coverage.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
