Speaker 1 (00:03):
Calaruga Shark Media. Welcome back to the Messy Effect. I'm
Jamie Rudd and what a Monday we had. The Round
of sixteen. Picture is becoming crystal clear as we near
the end of the group stage, and let me tell you,
it was a day of high drama, late heartbreak and
some absolutely wild finishes. We saw PSG book their spot,

(00:27):
Messi's Miami nearly collapse completely. Let's break it all down.
Let's start with Paris San Germain, who did exactly what
they needed to do against Seattle Sounders, winning two to
zero to secure their place in the Round of sixteen.
This was a professional job from the French champions. Kavicha
Kavaratzkalia opened the scoring in the thirty fifth minute, and

(00:50):
that goal was crucial not just for the three points
but for PSG's confidence after that shocking one zero loss
to Botafogo last Thursday. Akraf Hakimi added the second in
the sixty sixth minute with a lovely finish from a
Bradley Barcolour pass that was threaded perfectly between defenders. What's

(01:11):
remarkable here is that PSG goalkeeper jian Luigi Donnoruma didn't
have to make a single save in the entire match
that tells you everything about how dominant PSG were for Seattle.
This result confirms their elimination and makes them the second
MLS team to be knocked out, joining LAFC. The Sounders

(01:32):
showed heart throughout this tournament, but the quality gap was
just too significant. Now, the other Group B match tells
a fascinating story. Atletico Madrid beat Botafogo one zero, but
despite getting the win, they're going home. Here's the thing.
Atletico needed to win by three goals or more to advance,

(01:52):
and they just couldn't find that cutting edge. The match
was decided late when Antoine Griesman scored in the eighty
seven seventh minute off a cross from Julian Alvarez, but
by then it was too little, too late. What's frustrating
for Atletiko is that they had the chances. They outshot
Botafogo twenty three to seven, but Janoblack had to make

(02:14):
a stretching save to deny Jefferson Savarino early on, and
Alvarez missed a close shot wide left just before halftime.
Sometimes football is cruel, and this was one of those
nights for Atletiko. Meanwhile, Botafogo advanced to face Palmiras in
an all Brazilian Round of sixteen clash, which should be

(02:34):
absolutely spectacular. But the wildest story of the night has
to be that incredible four to four draw between f
C Porto and Al Arali. This match was pure chaos
from start to finish. Alali went into halftime leading two
to one and you're thinking they might have a chance
to sneak through. Then the second half happened and it

(02:54):
was three goals in three minutes that left everyone's head spinning.
The match was tied three to three, then Al Ahli
scored again in the sixty fourth minute to take a
four to three lead. But just when you thought it
was over, Pepe scored an absolute screamer from outside the
box in the eighty ninth minute to level it at

(03:14):
four to four, and in the end, neither team advances.
It's heartbreaking for both sides, but what a match for
the neutrals. Now let's talk about the story. Everyone was
watching Lionel Messi and into Miami. What looked like it
was going to be a comfortable evening turned into an
absolute nightmare. In the final ten minutes, Miami took a

(03:35):
perfect two zero lead with Todayo Alendi scoring first in
the sixteenth minute on a lovely breakaway, and then Luis
Suarez weaved past two defenders for a brilliant solo goal
early in the second half. At that point, Miami were
cruising toward winning Group A and avoiding PSG in the
Round of sixteen, but then Palmera showed exactly why Brazilian

(03:58):
football is so daus. They pulled one back in the
eightieth minute, and then Mauricio buried an equalizer in the
eighty eighth minute to completely flip the group's standings. That
late collapse means Miami finished second in Group A and
now face European champions PSG in what promises to be
an absolute blockbuster Round of sixteen clash on Sunday in Atlanta. Meanwhile,

(04:23):
Palmiras win the group and get the reward of facing
Botafogo in an all Brazilian affair. So let's look at
what we've learned from Monday's action. Groups A and B
are now complete and the Round of sixteen matchups are set.
Palmiras will face Botafogo in Philadelphia on Saturday at noon,
while PSG take on into Miami in Atlanta on Sunday,

(04:46):
also at noon. Both games are going to be must
watch television. The Palmira's Botafogo match is a fascinating battle
between two Brazilian giants who've both shown they can compete
with anyone in this tournament. And PSG versus Miami. That's
Messi versus Mbapei, European champions against MLS champions and potentially

(05:09):
the most watched match of the entire tournament. Now let's
look ahead to Tuesday because we have some massive matches
that will decide the final Group C and Group D
qualification spots. Tuesday is all about do or die scenarios
and teams fighting for their tournament lives. The afternoon slate
kicks off at three pm Eastern with two crucial Group

(05:32):
C matches. First, we have Auckland City taking on Boca
Juniors in Nashville. Now, Auckland City are already eliminated after
losing ten nil to Byan and six nil to Benfica,
but they'll want to bow out with some dignity. For
Boca Juniors, this is massive. They currently sit on just
one point after drawing with Benfica and losing to Byan,

(05:55):
so they absolutely must win this match to have any
chance of advancing anything less than three points, and Boca
are going home, which would be a shocking early exit
for the Argentine giants. At the same time, we have
the group's marquee matchup Benfica versus Bayern Munich in Charlotte.
This is essentially a playoff for second place in Group C.

(06:17):
Biron have already qualified and will likely rest some key players,
but Benfica need at least a draw to guarantee their
spot in the round of sixteen. If Benfica lose and
Boca win, we could see some dramatic goal difference calculations.
Biron have been ruthless in this tournament, beating Auckland ten
nil and Boca two to one, so even a rotated

(06:40):
Byn's side will be dangerous. Then we move to the
evening matches at nine p m Eastern and both are
absolutely crucial for Group D. First up Esperance de Tunis
face Chelsea in Philadelphia. This is Chelsea's last chance to
salvage their tournament. After that shocking three to one defeat
to Flamengo where Nicholas Jackson got himself sent off, Chelsea

(07:03):
are in a precarious position and need to win to
guarantee their advancement esperance. Beat LAFC and will fancy their
chances of causing another upset. If Chelsea slip up here,
their Club World Cup could be over, which would be
a disaster for the Premier League side. The other Group
D match sees LAFC take on Flamengo in Orlando. Now

(07:26):
LAFC are already eliminated, but they'll want to end their
tournament on a positive note after scoring zero goals in
their previous two matches. For Flamengo, who have already qualified,
this is a chance to finish top of the group
and potentially get a more favorable round of sixteen draw.
Flamengo have been the story of this tournament so far,

(07:47):
shocking Chelsea and showing that Brazilian football is alive and
well on the global stage. What makes Tuesday so compelling
is that we have multiple scenarios in play in Group C.
If Boker beat Auklan and Benfica lose to Byan, Boka
could sneak through on goal difference. In Group D, Chelsea's
fate is entirely in their own hands, but the pressure

(08:10):
will be immense after that Nicholas Jackson red card fiasco
against Flamengo. The beauty of group stage finales is that
anything can happen. Teams that are already through might rest players,
teams that are eliminated might play with freedom, and teams
fighting for their lives will throw everything at it. We've
already seen so many surprises in this tournament, Botafogo beating PSG,

(08:35):
Flamengo shocking Chelsea, the Brazilian teams dominating, so don't be
surprised if Tuesday brings more drama. Looking at the bigger picture,
we're starting to see the Round of sixteen take shape,
and it's fascinating. We already know PSG play Miami and
Palmiras face, Botafogo Flamengo are through and looking strong, Bayern

(08:56):
Munich are cruising. The tournament is developing incredible storylines, and
Tuesday's matches will add even more chapters to this already
captivating Club World Cup

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
