Speaker 1 (00:03):
Calaruga Shark Media, Welcome back to the Messy Effect. I'm
Jamie Rudd and Thursday mark the end of the Club
World Cup group stage with a statement that reverberated around
the football world. The European giants have officially awoken. Manchester
City delivered a performance that reminded everyone exactly why they're
(00:25):
the defending champions, while Real Madrid rolled through their group
with the kind of ruthless efficiency we've come to expect
from Los Blancos. The Round of sixteen is now set
and we're in for some absolutely incredible knockout matches. Let's
break it all down. Let's start with the performance of
the day, and arguably the performance of the entire group stage,
(00:50):
Manchester City's absolutely dominant five to two victory over Juventus.
This wasn't just a win, this was a statement. City
capped off a perfect group JUS run with three wins,
thirteen goals scored and zero doubt about who the best
team in the group was. The match started at a
frantic pace, with Jeremy Doku opening the scoring for City
(01:12):
in the ninth minute, but Juventus hit back immediately through
turn Coup Miners. Just two minutes later, for a moment,
you're thinking this could be one of those classic European
battles where both teams trade blows. But then City showed
exactly why they're so dangerous. They found another gear. Pierre
Clulu's unfortunate own goal in the twenty sixth minute gave
(01:35):
City a two to one half time lead, and in
the second half the big guns came out to play arling.
Harland scored in the fifty second minute, Phil Foden added
another in the sixty ninth, and Savigno capped off the
route with fifteen minutes to spare. Duschan Vlahovich got a
consolation goal for Juventus in the eighty fourth minute, but
(01:56):
by then the damage was well and truly done. What's
remarkable about Cities group stage performance is the consistency and
quality they've shown. Thirteen goals in three matches tells the
story of a team that's hitting peak form at exactly
the right time. As Group G winners, they'll face Al
Hilal on Monday in Orlando, and based on this performance,
(02:19):
they'll be heavy favorites to advance. Despite the heavy defeat,
Juventus advanced to the round of sixteen thanks to their
earlier wins over al Ain and Widad. They'll face Real
Madrid on Tuesday in Miami, which should be an absolutely
fascinating clash between two European giants with completely different trajectories
(02:40):
in this tournament. Speaking of Real Madrid, they completed their
own dominant group stage run with a comfortable three zero
victory over RB Salzburg. This was Real Madrid at their
clinical best, scoring two first half goals that effectively ended
the contest before halftime. The star of the show was
Judea Bellingham, who provided two assists in a master class
(03:03):
of creative midfield play. His first assist found Veneius Junior
for the opener, and moments later he broke down Salzburg's
backline again, finding Vinnie Junior, who unselfishly set up Federico
Valverde for a tap in. Gonzalo Garcia added a third
in the eighty fourth minute to complete the victory. Real
(03:23):
Madrid win Group H and will face Juventus in what
promises to be one of the most anticipated Round of
sixteen matches. Both teams have European pedigree, both have shown
quality in this tournament, and both will believe they can
go deep into the knockout rounds. The other Group H
results saw Al Hilal secure their place in the round
of sixteen with a professional two zero victory over Patchuca.
(03:48):
Salem al Dauseri scored a lovely floated goal over Sebastian
Roca in the twenty second minute and that proved to
be enough for most of the match. Al Hilal defended
brilliantly and d sealed the victory with a stoppage time
goal from Marcos Leonardo. This result means Patchuka finished their
Club World Cup campaign without a single point, which is
(04:10):
disappointing for the Mexican champions. They showed moments of quality,
particularly in that match against Real Madrid where they played
with ten men, but the step up in quality proved
too much. Al Hilal meanwhile advance as Group H runners
up and will face Manchester City on Monday. This is
a fascinating matchup between Saudi Arabian ambition and English excellence.
(04:34):
Al Hilal have shown they can compete at this level,
but City are looking ominous right now. The final group
stage match saw Al Ain get their first victory of
the tournament, beating wydad Ac two to one in what
was essentially a dead rubber. Whydad took an early lead
through Cassius Maylulu in the fourth minute, but Alayin fought
(04:54):
back with a penalty from Kodjofodo Laba before halftime and
a winner from al shi Andro Romero in the fiftieth minute.
Both teams were already eliminated, so this was purely about
pride and ending the tournament on a positive note. Alaine
will be pleased to get their first points of the competition,
while Wydad can hold their heads high after competing respectably
(05:17):
against much stronger opposition. Saturday kicks off the knockout rounds
with two Brazilian giants facing each other, Palmiras versus Botafogo
at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia at noon Eastern. This
is the match everyone in Brazil will be watching. Both
teams have shown they can compete with anyone in this
(05:37):
tournament and it's going to be a fascinating tactical battle
between two sides who know each other incredibly well. Then
at four we have Benfica taking on Chelsea at Bank
of America Stadium in Charlotte. This is a massive match
for Chelsea, who have been inconsistent throughout this tournament. That
shocking three to one defeat to Flamengo followed by the
(05:58):
professional three zero win over Esperancet Tunis. You never know
which Chelsea team is going to show up. Benfica, meanwhile,
are riding high after topping Group C ahead of Bayern Munich.
That one nil victory over the German champions was one
of the results of the tournament and they'll believe they
can cause another upset against Chelsea. Looking ahead to the
(06:21):
rest of the Round of sixteen, we have some incredible
matchups lined up. Sunday sees Lionel Messis into Miami take
on Paris Saint Germain in Atlanta, which could be the
most watched match of the entire tournament. PSG versus Miami,
Killian MBA Pei versus Messi European Champions against MLS Champions.
