Speaker 1 (00:03):
Calarugu, Shark Media, I'm Jamie Rudd and Sunday brought some
real clarity to the tournament picture. The European powerhouses flexed
their muscles. We had our first eliminations confirmed and two
round of sixteen spots were officially locked up. Plus we'll

(00:23):
catch up on the Gold Cup action with the usmnt's
perfect group stage run. Let's dive right in. Let's start
with Juventus, who are absolutely cruising through Group G. The
Old Lady put on a clinic against Moroccan champions Why
dad Ac, winning four to one in what was never
really in doubt after the early stages. Things got off

(00:44):
to the perfect start for Uva when Wydad gifted them
an own goal just six minutes in. Sometimes that's all
you need to settle the nerves and get into your rhythm.
Kennan Yielders then took over the show, grabbing his first
goal in the sixteenth minute and completing his brace in
the sixty ninth. Waidad did manage to spoil the clean

(01:05):
sheet through Thembinkosi launch in the twenty fifth minute, but
that was always going to be a consolation. Douchan Vlahovich
wrapped things up with a penalty deep in stoppage time.
The big news here is that with this result, both
Juventus and Manchester City have officially qualified for the Round
of sixteen. They'll now face each other on Thursday to

(01:27):
decide who tops Group G, which should be an absolute cracker.
Speaking of Manchester City, the defending champions were absolutely ruthless
against al Ain. Six nil doesn't tell the full story.
It could have been more. Ilkai, Gundogan, Claudio Etcheveri and
Erling Harland all scored in the first half to put

(01:48):
the game to bed early. Gundogan completed his brace with
a lovely chip in the second half, before Oscar bob
and ray Anne Cherkey added the cherry on top. This
was Manchester to City at their clinical best. They pressed high,
moved the ball quickly and punished every mistake al Ain
made for the UAE side, who were already beaten five

(02:11):
nil by Juventus in their opener. This was another harsh
lesson in European football quality. The result confirms what we
all expected. City are serious about defending their crown and
they're hitting their stride at exactly the right time. Now.
This was the story of the day. Real Madrid showed
exactly why they're one of the most successful clubs in history,

(02:34):
beating Patchukah three to one despite playing with ten men
for eighty two minutes. Raoul Asensio was sent off after
just eight minutes for a reckless tackle on Salomon ron
Don and you're thinking, here's Pachuca's chance. The Mexican side
certainly created plenty of opportunities, significantly out shooting Madrid in

(02:55):
the early stages, but this is real Madrid we're talking about.
Jude Bellingham opened the scoring in the thirty fifth minute.
Arda Gula doubled the lead ten minutes later, and Federico
Valverdi added a third in the seventieth minute. Elias Montiel
got a consolation for Pachuca, but by then the damage
was done. That performance, down a man for most of

(03:17):
the game tells you everything about Madrid's mentality and quality.
Unfortunately for Pachuca, this result officially eliminates them from the tournament.
The only game without goals on Sunday was RB Salzburg
versus Al Hilal, and it was one of those matches
where both teams knew a draw suited them just fine.

(03:38):
The star of the show was undoubtedly Yassin Bunu in
the Al Hilal goal. The Moroccan shot stopper was named
player of the match after a string of brilliant saves,
including a point blank stop that preserved the clean sheet. Salzburg,
riding high after their historic opening win over Pachuca, couldn't

(03:58):
quite find the breakthrough despite outshooting Al Hilal six to
four on target, Al Hilal had nineteen total attempts, but
couldn't find a way past Salzburg's defense. This result keeps
both teams hopes alive in what's shaping up to be
a fascinating Group H battle. Let's look at where we
stand after Sunday's action. Group G is now crystal clear

(04:21):
at the top. Juventus and Manchester City both have six
points and positive seven and eight goal differences respectively. They're
through to the round of sixteen, with Thursday's head to
head deciding who tops the group. We'd add Ac and
l Ain are both eliminated with zero points. Group H

(04:42):
is much tighter. Real Madrid lead with four points and
a plus two goal difference, followed by RB Salzburg also
on four points but with a plus one difference. Al
Hilal have two points and Patchuka are eliminated with zero.
Now let's switch gears and talk some Gold Cup action.

(05:03):
The USMNT finished the group stage three for three, beating
Haiti two to one on Sunday to cap off a
perfect run. But Mauricio Pochettino didn't look entirely happy after
the match, and honestly, you can understand why. Look on paper,
nine points from nine is exactly what you want from
a group stage, especially with what was essentially a B

(05:24):
team missing guys like Pulisic, McKenny and dest But Pochettino
knows that performances against Saudi Arabia and Haiti weren't at
the level this team needs to reach. That equalizer from
Haiti in the nineteenth minute really seemed to knock the
wind out of the Americans for a while. It came
from exactly the kind of mistake you can't afford in

(05:46):
bigger competitions. Tim Reim and Matt Freese got caught trying
to play out from the back and Luisius Don Diedson
pounced on it. Those are the moments that will haunt
you against better opposition. But Patrick Agumann got the winner
in the seventh minute, which was huge for him personally.
He'd been getting chances throughout the tournament but couldn't quite
finish them off. That goal off the nice ball from

(06:08):
John Tolkien was exactly what he needed. You could see
the relief on his face. Sometimes it's as much about
confidence as it is about ability at this level. Malick
Tilman had two goals ruled out, but has been fantastic
throughout this tournament. Pochettino's praise after the game, calling him
hard to define because of his talent and work ethic,

(06:29):
That's exactly right. He had that brace against Trinidad and
Tobago in the opener and even though those two goals
were ruled out on Sunday, he's showing he can be
a real game changer for this team. Looking ahead to
the quarterfinals, Pochettino needs to fix three main things in
this week long break. Avoiding those costly errors in possession,

(06:50):
finding more creativity in the final third, and being more
clinical with their chances. As Pochettino said himself, they need
to improve in all airs because the knockouts are going
to be like finals. The good news is they have
time to work on these issues. The bad news is
that this USMNT team, even with a rotated squad, should

(07:12):
be reaching the Gold Cup final as a bare minimum.
Anything less would be a real disappointment. With the twoenty
twenty six World Cup on home soil just over a
year away, this tournament is crucial for building momentum. Now
let's look ahead to Monday's Club World Cup action, and
the headline is obvious. Lionel Messi and Into Miami are

(07:35):
back in action. The marquee fixture of Monday night sees
Inter Miami host Brazilian champions Palmeiras at hard Rock Stadium
at nine pm Eastern. This is exactly what the Club
World Cup organizers dreamed of the world's biggest star playing
at home in front of his adoring fans. Earlier in
the day, we have two equally intriguing matchups. Seattle Sounders

(07:59):
take on Paris and Jaman at three pm Eastern in Seattle.
PSG demolished at Lettico Madrid four zero in their opener
and will be looking to all but secure their place
in the round of sixteen. The sound has showed heart
in their narrow loss to Atletico and will be desperate
for points at home at the same time, Atletico Madrid

(08:19):
face Botafogo at three pm Eastern at the Rose Bowl
in Los Angeles. This is a massive game for both sides.
Atletico neter bounce back from that PSG hammering, while Botafogo
will be looking to build on their stunning upset of
PSG earlier in the tournament. Finally, FC Porto take on
Al Ali at nine pm Eastern at MetLife Stadium in

(08:43):
what will be extremely hot temperatures. Both teams drew their
opening matches and will see this as a must win
to stay in contention. Monday is all about momentum and statements.
Based on what we've seen so far, expect the unexpected.
This time Nament has been absolutely wild and Monday should
be no different. Until tomorrow, this has been Jamie Rudd

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
