Speaker 1 (00:01):
And welcome back to another episode of After Further. If
you will, coach, Heish Northern Coach, how you doing today,
sir man?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Everything going pretty good, getting ready to uh to give
my kids some flu shots, and Adam and I gonna
head up to the game. We probably gonna hit out
Friday and go watch one of his cousins played that
senior in high school up that way, and then we're
gonna check out some good old state Fair class. So
maybe I get a chance to give me a what's

(00:35):
a big drumstick to smoke drums, turkeys the turkey eggs. Yeah, look,
all the years I've been up there, I never had one,
So maybe this would be the year.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Well, if you're gonna do that, Coach, I know you're
a good color show of a good meal, just as
I am.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
I gotta try the corn dogs too, man.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Oh yeah, look, Mark, when we were a little man,
for us to get a corn dog, they had an
old throwing.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
Bad little ruse called Howard Brothers.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
And man, if my dad brought us a kind of
a corn doll.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
Boy, you like they say you you was riding house.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Now I gotta I gotta give you the littanus test. Here, coach,
how do you eat your corn dog?

Speaker 4 (01:15):
Sir?

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Give me a little mustard on live mustard maybe ketch
up every now and then, but I like mustard on mine.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Okay, yeah, you lost with they ketchup.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
But if I want to get a little adventures, I
mix it with some mustard and hot sauce.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Oh my goodness, some good combination, sir.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Look, man, we're gonna get We're gonna get off track here,
We're gonna miss the whole game.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
Fan, what we got going on? Uh?

Speaker 1 (01:40):
No, need to express the importance of this week's matchup,
but there's also another huge mix matchup. And I think
for three programs, this is a statement game. And I'm
gonna touch first on the Jackson State Southern game. This
is a statement game for Southern. We know that for

(02:03):
the most part, Jackson is in the big boy seat
right now as far as the conference is concerned with
the situation that coach Grays is facing right now when
it comes let's be honest, you know, credibility and job security.
It's a critical time right now. Down on the bluff,

(02:24):
would you agree where.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
They have old saying and bad rude the stuff on
the bluff, No matter what your record is.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
They say they could.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Play the Saints and man if Suther lose to the
things as bad coaching or something like that. So you know,
it's just something that you deal with down there. But
it's a very important game from a standpoint of the
conference race, man, I think Jackie stated, if I'm not wrong,
they have beaten Southern six or seven times.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
In a row. I know they beat them twice last year.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
So that's a whole different ball game losing to somebody
that you hate that many times in a row. So
it's a it's it's a lot on the line.

Speaker 4 (03:06):
For the Dad wars I said, it's.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Some pride, it's some uh some status, some some some standing,
some understanding. You know, there's a whole lot on the
line for this game, right and and with that, of course,
we don't like to focus on it, but you're human.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
It does bring about a certain type of pressure and
things get to tighten. Could it be a situation where
coaches can can begin to over coach, trying to you know,
stress the importance to make sure that everything is being
executed properly.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
Nah, I don't think so.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Like I say, knowing both coach Graves and coach Taylor,
I think they gonna try to it's it's an important game.
But if you know every game is important to any coach,
they'll tell you, you know, we just want to go one
and oh for this week. So that's that's the game
that they have a hand. But I don't think coach
Graves would as so some people will say over coach,

(04:01):
it's almost a thing like settle down, guys. When we
do the small things right that we've been doing or
been not doing or successfully, then we're gonna end up
where we've been. If we don't stop the running game.
With jack State got a huge offensive line and some
running backs that make you question whether or not you
want to play football for real, then that's gonna be

(04:23):
it's gonna repeat itself. But the biggest thing is stopping
the run and then hope you stop the run on
the way to the quarterback because Jackson State has not
been having a lot of sets in the passing game.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Right at this stage, you know, the coaching schemes are
pretty much ends, and it's about the Jimmies and the
Jones executing.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
Right, are you still going to.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Be trying to tweak and find that diamond in the
roof where you just got to roll out there the
ones that you know or feel that proven themselves to
the camp, or could it be something where you just
start rotating just to.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
See if you can get some mixers and matches.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
Well, some of.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
It is you pretty much know what you have by now,
but you hope maybe sometime as a quarterback spot, you
get a hot hand or your third team running back
coming and because he has not been getting a lot
of carries, that joke is the second coming of Eric
Dickinson Earl Camber when you're giving a ball in a game,
and because he wanted.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
To show her about little I shouldn't be getting more carriages.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
And sometimes just the change of one guy. Just say,
for instance, I was watching the game and it was
preview and they switched quarterbacks, and all of a sudden
the running game picked up and they hadn't thrown the pass.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
So it's just.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Different things like that that you will see occasionally, And
it happens more in college football when you bring in
a second or third team guy, and man, that joke
wild get happen. Sometimes it happens with quarterbacks because quarterbacks
don't get hit in practice, and I remember when Grammer
had DJ Williams and his backup.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
Was another kid. I want to say.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
His last name is Williz. He's the offense coordinator at
South Carolina State. Now came in for DJ, and the
offense just picked up because you didn't get.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
A chance to see him.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
You saw him in past killer, but you don't get
to see a guy really extend the play because they're
not getting hit it practical.

Speaker 4 (06:18):
You don't, you know, the coaches go to whistle. There's
a lot of things.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Like that sometimes in college ball that pick up the
pace of the offense or pick up the execution of
the offense by bringing in the second or third teen guy.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Right now, going back to the coaching of coach Grays,
solid coach knows what he's doing. But when you have
an OC in the case of man, I can't call
the name right now. McNair, who has head coaching experience.

(06:52):
Do you have a tendency to be somewhat looking over
your shoulder that if I mess up, I could be
yanked and that could be my future replace me?

Speaker 4 (07:03):
Man?

Speaker 2 (07:03):
You know what, that's that's funny because I have been
told that's the reason why I'm not at certain places
because you know, a head coach is gonna look over
here shoulder at times, just you know, just say, if
I go somewhere, they have a good defense, and man,
this this guy should be our guy. We should have
looked at him sooner, you know, that type of stuff.

(07:23):
But I don't think coach Graves is gonna look as
far as I'm concerned. And I'm a you know, Southern alum,
Southern backer boostoo. However you want, I put my money
wherever I'm out the is and this guy's in this.
I want to say, this is the second year being
a full time head coach.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
I and I would.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Say Southern Universe would be foolish to think, man, we
need to get really coach grades after his second year,
because you're gonna you're.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
Gonna end up going down that road of the Mississippi Valleys.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Uh, you know school that every time you look around
you have no idea who the head coach is. So
I just don't think that's a especially now. I'll put
it like this. If you're gonna get him in a
lump summer money to leave the program, then I'll say yeah.
But other than that, we don't need to start thinking
we can do what other people.

Speaker 4 (08:15):
Do because we don't.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
Have money to throw away at guys. You think about
when they got rid of coach Doula, I understand that,
you know, a couple of people came up with the
money to pay off the rest of his contract. Man,
we don't live in that type of world where we can,
you know, give away two hundred and three hundred thousand
dollars to a guy to sit home on his couch
for lack of a better term.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
Whereas ironic that you brought up Mississippi Valley.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Texas seven's on the road taking on the Delta Devils
this weekend.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
Another critical gain in the case for.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
Both institutions, but more or less from my perspective for
Texas Suthern because their grumblings, their finger pointing going on
in the Texas Southern camp.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
Coach Dishmand in his second year.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
I think he has a another three years remaining on
his contract. He's been dealing with the injury bug just
like a lot of programs. Or at this time of
the year, is it pretty much the same scenario that
you got at Southern or is it slightly different? Being
on the culture of both institutions.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Now, I think they're in the same molder. You start
down the road to getting rid of coaches, you might
look up and get one and then he might not
stay that loone. But like I say, I don't think
that's where we are as an HBCUs to start thinking
that unless you got somebody that's really bank rolling your program,
then I don't think we can head down the road

(09:38):
to get rid of coaches and wanting guys gone, especially
if they have a couple of years left on the contract.
I just I don't that's not a good business about us.
You'll say, as far as I'm concerned as somebody that's
been dealing with college athletics since nineteen ninety one.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Right, Well, well, since we're rolling, we're going to go
on your other native of graumd ling.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
Correct.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
And it's kind of the same song being saying there
about coach Mickey Joseph.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
This is a critical game for.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
Per Review and Grambling II the Western Division of both teams,
coming off of strong wins, one coach is kind of
coming down a little bit, if you would, from the
brass talk in the preseason to the realities of you know,
Division one competition, and you got another one who had eight.

(10:32):
Great expectations coming in at three and one, but some
I'm saying it's waded down three and one.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
How do you see this matchup coming up?

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Man, all this stuff don't matter those you winning football,
you know, the records don't matter in this game. I
just think this is a it's gonna be a great
atmosphere to be. Like they say, Man, I was driving
my daughter home from school the other day and he
found this app that you can listen to and I
can put in HBCU bands and man, we were listening

(11:02):
to Grambling a couple of late songs the other day
and we listened to Jackson State or Southern of you know, Prairiview,
all these bands, and I'm just telling her, man, I'm
pretty much getting chills thinking about going up to the
game this weekend. So it's gonna be our hope is
a great environment.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
I hope the weather holds up.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
I'm looking for a good game, and I think it's
gonna be a close game because if you look at it,
you know, Praierview is not that far away from being
three and one as well. Had they get a good
bounce up, you know, hold on to the football late
against Rio Grand Valley get off to a better start.
So I think we're looking at two teams that are

(11:44):
looking themselves in the mirror. Say, man, if we do
X Y Z now Grambling against Ohio State, that's a
different ball game. But I think every other game it
has been somewhat as expected, a close game. But the
most important thing is winning games. Could say, yeah, they
beat two D two teams. Are Southland a D two? Man,

(12:04):
it don't matter because and I really think when coach
Joseph said this earlier that people think that Gramblin people
play Graham like it's everybody's super Bowl. I can attest
to that fact because I've been in Graham in locker room,
and man, you see some guys making plays. You just
see the effort because you know it's almost a feather in.

(12:27):
Somebody's had beaten Gramblin, just like you would be a
flap to the faith in the old days if you
lost the Praierview. Primarily when I was in school a
little bit after before I started coaching at Prairie at
that time where you know you will look down on it.
You lost the Praivie now, you know, But man, Prairie
got new facilities, they got scholarships now, so it's not

(12:52):
the same old losing the praivery thing. But I do
think it has some merit to both sides of what
these coaches have seen in terms of the way people
look at them and winning.

Speaker 4 (13:02):
And losing that game it means a lot.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
And then Prairiey has a decent little street going against Grammar,
so that's gonna mean a lot to boat programs.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
Right where there's six and four in the last ten
meetings against Gramma and that overtime marathon that they had
last season with something to be remembered. We're talking right
now with coach Heist Northern on our after further review
weekly session.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
Coach, when I did my.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
Analytical breakdown of this matchup this week earlier this week,
I'm going to go through what I looked at and
now I want to see how you respond to it.
When it comes to the quarterbacking edge. I'm giving that
edge right now to Grammla in state. How do you
see that?

Speaker 4 (13:51):
Man?

Speaker 2 (13:51):
It's it's tit to t because you know not to
be a littit by, but I really like peace that
you know, he's a guy that grew up you know
pretty much the next neighborhood from where I'm from, and
I think he does something special. I would say he
is more athletic than the Praiview quarterbacks. But the Prairie

(14:13):
quarterbacks not easy to tackle as well. You know, they
got some power and speed with them. So I think
he throws a pretty good ball. He understands football, and
a while back I talked about guys that played basketball.
He was on a state championship basketball team a few
years back. So just being able to distribute the ball
and understand space, and so I think, man, it might

(14:36):
I would go fifty one forty nine almost on who's better,
But I can agree with you a little bit. But man,
if then Praisview quarterbacks get the run in a football
like I think they can and will, that's on balance out.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
He set athletic ability.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
It was their their.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Speed and signe Okay, when it comes to running backs,
giving a slight edge to Prairie View, oh.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
Man, ain't no doubt about that. Look, man, them them
just gonna makes you a question, do you really want
to play football?

Speaker 4 (15:09):
Now?

Speaker 2 (15:10):
That's all gonna mcdal come thirty fourth quarter after you
done been, you know you done, got paper cuts from.

Speaker 4 (15:18):
Bingham.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
Now, hey man, that dog Gonn mcdall coming through that
like a switch blade or something.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
He just he going for the jugglers.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
You know, he he will embarrass you. And that's that's
a difference maker right there. So I have to agree
with you on the running back side.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Okay, Now when I called wide receivers, I'm gonna include
tight ends.

Speaker 3 (15:38):
I'm giving a slight edge to Gramblin.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
That's that's gonna be another one in fifty one quarter nine.
But I think the question for Prairie View is can
the quarterbacks be accurate and make good decisions?

Speaker 4 (15:52):
I don't think now, you know, if.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
You had to put receiver versus receiver besides wise the
speed wise, I think you're gonna pretty much be and
I really like and I'm gonna add Prairieview's eighths backs
and tight ends too in the fullback because I think
they can add something that X on the bootlegs and
the waggles and all that with them getting the ball
in the hand. But I do think it's even skill wise.

(16:19):
But the question going to be the quarterback playing at
In Praviews, quarterbacks complete the higher percentage of passes than
they have been.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
Whereas it's funny that you brought that up another little
note nugget that I was holding on to. It appears
that these first four games, perview has not taken full
advantage of the h back tight end position. And I'm
wondering if that was somewhat by design coach knowing that,
you know, since detect a Southern game, they would fine

(16:49):
tuning and working on other things with the quote unquote
preseason type approach. Could they be saving that as a
surprise attack with their arsenal starting this week?

Speaker 4 (16:59):
Man, I don't think so.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
I don't think coaches saved play because you do so
much in situations breaking down what is the defense gonna
be in on first and ten p and ten second
and third and long second and short first and five,
you know, all those types of situations. I would think
you sort of have to be crazy as a coach

(17:21):
say now I'm gonna hold this play back.

Speaker 4 (17:23):
I don't think we operate.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
We operate and what's gonna be successful versus what we
gonna see or what we think we're gonna see.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
So I don't think coaches hold back on play.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
The only thing they may hold back on is a
trick play every now and then, like how does it
look in practice?

Speaker 4 (17:41):
Or you know, cause sometimes the trick.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
Plays can look real bad and practice, then you say, man,
let's roll with it. Depending on like if it's a
second and one or something like that, you may say,
let's go with our sniper or that's a double pass,
or you know, let's go with our role pass or
telback toss or something like that. So you may looking
down and distance more than you look at plays.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
So I don't think coaches.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
Hold back on anything, well, well, not necessarily holding.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
Do you would you or have you even paid attention
to Do you think they've been taking full advantage of
the tight end h back position?

Speaker 4 (18:17):
Well I would.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
I have to say no, because them jokes stay open now,
but most of the time they not the primary read
for the quarterback. So and then when you're going high
low reads, usually they're the low guy. So if something
high or me it looks open, then that's the last
guy that you come back to sometimes.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
So and then do you ever, I'm sorry, just when
you said they made me jump and I don't want
to forget it.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
I'm getting to this day.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Sometimes might have sometime it's not all the time for
some time, but I want to get this in. Is
it sometimes that you reverse your progression? I'm know you
go one two three. Do you ever have a time
where you go three to one?

Speaker 4 (18:54):
Oh? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (18:55):
So if your quarterbacks struggling, you may tell him if
you see the pub the flats, take him no matter what.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
And I know we used to do that.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
We had that full back Chris Watkins with Jered Chris
Watkins was you know, he'll knock as not out of it.
But that joker had some good hands too, so we
may sell Jerry. If you see him open when you
come off the bootleg, then give him the ball right
now because he gonna run over somebody if he catches,
so don't wait late. But we were fortunate enough to

(19:25):
have a couple of good, good hands tight end, and
we say, if they're open, take them now and let
them do a little bit of work.

Speaker 4 (19:33):
So you do reverse that order, or sometimes on some
of the screens you may say let's uh.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
On his own reason, you may say let's take it
and let the quarterback see somebody catch a ball from
him to get him back going if he's missed a
couple of reads or overthrown some people. Let's get it
to somebody quickly and like say it's almost like guys, say, let's.

Speaker 4 (19:55):
Let's let us shoot us see a free throw go in?
Then not a basket? Look real wire.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
Right right right now, We're going to continue on with
this breakdown here, coach.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
The defense.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
I want to break it down to front seven and
the back four of front seven. I'm going to give
a slight edge to Prairie View, But on the back four,
believe or not, I'm gonna give it a slight edge to Grambling.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
How do you see that?

Speaker 2 (20:21):
I can I can say I somewhat agree because of
the way. So Grammar's face defense to me is a
four two five, it's not a four to three.

Speaker 4 (20:32):
So I look at that box. I like a four
man box.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
A four man defensive line. But Prairiew still has a
sick man box. But it's just a line a little
bit different. So my preference is a four man defensive line.
That's why I would maybe get Grambling the edge. But
I tell you what, the dogs going number three from Praiview,
you better make sure you know where he is. And
a good thing about Prairie View, they are saying faster

(21:01):
as a defense now in our opinion, but because I
think they read things.

Speaker 4 (21:06):
The only thing I think that.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
Would give Prayerview I would like for Praierview to have
if I'm coaching, it's maybe a little bit more size
at the cornerback like a six one six tour is
a guy probably that used to play receiver that might
not have the best hand because they usually a little
bit more fluid.

Speaker 4 (21:26):
I would like a little bit more height.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
At the cornerback spot for Prairie. But other than that,
I think they like say they match up pretty even
when you talk about six man boxes previews, you know,
starting maybe doing a little bit.

Speaker 4 (21:40):
More moving and flinting and bringing a guy off the edge.

Speaker 2 (21:44):
But I tell you what, when when them jokers, when
people when they talk about spilling and we call it
hitting the stick a puller from the backside, they do
a real good job or you know they say, facing
the guy up and making the play right right.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
And then last for not when I go to special teams,
I got it dead evening coach.

Speaker 4 (22:05):
Yeah, I think I'm gonna try to.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
I would say, yes, previews kickoff coverage may be a
little bit underwhelming depend on. But like I say, some
of that is strategy, and I understand why they're doing
what they're doing. Kicking the ball high and short. Some
people say, we wait, not kicking it high enough, or
you're kicking it too short and all that type of stuff.
But sometimes you have to know what is the strength

(22:30):
of your kickoff teams. I think Previews Punter is average
to a little bit above average brand and Guy is
I say a little bit more above.

Speaker 4 (22:40):
Average on in terms of getting the ball off.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
But the kicking game, when you gotta hope you don't
get a bad snap, I think that's both teams have
pretty good snappers. Prairie Guy had one bad snap. They
got a little bit high and hot last week. But
I'll be I'll I'll say them in agreement with you
on that. I think Grimlin might have a slight edge
in terms of kick and punt returners. But you know,

(23:06):
sometimes you really don't get to see praierviews guys work
because the other team's gunner may get down and make
them have to fast catch the ball, or they may
be lined up too deep in the ball, hit in
front of them and roll. You know, just different things
like that. But like they say, man, you know, if
you go back through our check list, it leads to
a great ball game.

Speaker 1 (23:26):
That's why I was gonna say. The bottom line is
this should be one heck of a game. And then
it's ironic that you got a defensive minded coach versus
an offensive minded coach once again gives you that balance
of attack. And hopefully it's not another five overtime game,
but it should be a good game.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
Hey, man, I wouldn't mind it being a five old
time game. I'm not a smoker, but man, I almost
needed some cigarettes up their last year. So it was
very exciting to be in the stadium for that. And
I just hope that the fans stick around and watch
the game because it was a It was a good one, man,

(24:07):
I tell you what.

Speaker 4 (24:08):
You know, just the went with the penalties at the end, and.

Speaker 2 (24:12):
You know, guys made some plays that the joker from
Gramlin went up and caught a ball in between some guys,
and I prayer you didn't defend it very well and
they shouldn't even got in position to make the play
that senator over time, but uh, it was some good
football being played.

Speaker 1 (24:27):
Well, you just hit another hot nerve point for me,
because I don't think attendance is going to be an
issue this week, you know, because.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
I'm talking about staying. That's I'm not talking about coming
in the game. And so I had time over you
think somebody set out some stink bombs in the crowd.

Speaker 4 (24:48):
I'm talking about people that's gonna stay and share.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
Their team on with some BeeFence or what you want,
TV touched down, you know, all that type of stuff
like that. That's that's what I'm looking forward.

Speaker 3 (24:57):
To, right right, because once again this week I got on.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
I got on a hot soapbox. I say, the fan
base acting like the CME church members Christmas, Mother's Day
and Easter when they show up, and for us the
Christmas mother they Easters.

Speaker 3 (25:15):
Labor Day, Classic, State Fair Classic and Homecoming everything else.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
It's just like you say, somebody released a stink bomb
and you wonder, but you say this true shall class
And I guess as long as I'm around, as long.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
As I care, I guess I'm gonna keep talking about it. Ko.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
Yeah, I had a thing sentiment sometimes as far as
going to the game, even even my beloved jag War.
You know they lose one man. It looks like a
totally different crowd in bat Ruge. But they saying then
the bad thing about it. Sometimes in Southern them jos
as a by season tickets and don't go to the game.
I'm like, shoot, but the university they not losing money

(25:53):
on it, so I just think that's right. Yeah, I
just know if I lived in that rouge, I know
where I'd be at every Saturday that Southern was at home.

Speaker 4 (26:01):
I wouldn't.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
I couldn't just say I couldn't live in Cyprus or
Katie Nevasolda being a praiview alung and not be on
campus when the Panthers playing.

Speaker 4 (26:13):
I'm talking about.

Speaker 2 (26:15):
Being there early, cooking good time and maybe having a
cold U lightly alcoholic beverage or something like that. I'm
gonna have him a good time at the game and
I'm gonna stay tell that song going over. I ain't
no leaving for me.

Speaker 4 (26:31):
You know, they say, you.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
Look and I don't know if I told you about
old Adam. Adam left the game, so uh, preiviews up
by ten points, so he's like, man, it's over with man.
So I texted him while I'm doing the game for you,
and I say hey, man, where you at.

Speaker 4 (26:47):
I want to see you before. I want to see
you before I leave.

Speaker 2 (26:51):
He's like, man, I just got back to the thong.
I said, man, you're missing a great game. He was
like what, And then I told him. I said, yeah,
Northwestern State. The kid that was fumbling and all the
kickoffs and stuf. I say, he just made a suchdown
prayview defender misjudge the ball and the boy. He was like,
no way, and then for them to win by three points.

(27:13):
So I say, man, there's.

Speaker 4 (27:14):
The value lesson learned. But then I did big get
him a live it.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
I say, man, you're a typical praiview fan this right
way you are. So we laughed about it, but you know,
it's just one of them. Man, I'm staying telling those
and you don't never know what.

Speaker 3 (27:28):
Maam, Yes sir, yes, sir. And and once again you
realize that the word faan is an abbreviation of fanatics.

Speaker 1 (27:38):
And you don't have a lot of quote unquote fans
these days. You got a lot of casual viewers and
occasional drop bis. And it goes to the overall dynamics
of funding and just the overall game experience.

Speaker 3 (27:55):
But Hostley, it's a.

Speaker 1 (27:56):
Growing plane that we'll be talking about in the future,
not in the present, and even at the.

Speaker 3 (28:03):
Present time as we know it right now.

Speaker 1 (28:06):
But with all that being shit, I'm not gonna turn
this into a debbie down the session, Coach. I'm gonna
give you some time that I get some closing thoughts,
some reflections on this week's segment, sir.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
Look coming after the game last weekend, like I said,
I have fun. That's for great, great funds for both
the university. Haven't worked at both of them. I got
my masters degree at Grammar so and my mother went
to school and my dad went to school there for
a minute, he'll tell you, But it's just, man, I
really appreciate the fact of what both of those schools gave.

(28:38):
Like I say, Doug Wigs taking on taking a tenth
on a guy from Southern University to be a special
teams coordinator at the right age of maybe twenty I
think I was twenty two or twenty three years old,
and you know, he said, hey, man, I got a
job for you. I need you to be in such
and such by here, and nobody thought it was gonna work.

Speaker 4 (28:58):
So I gotta give a great appreciation to.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
Doug and Grammy for looking out for me all the
while that was out up there, and then for Praierview
giving me a chance to become a head coach for
the first time. And you know, even though everything wasn't
all a hundred doors when I took over.

Speaker 4 (29:16):
The program, but you know, it still was a great opportunity.

Speaker 2 (29:20):
Gave me a chance to you know, I had my
both my kids are born while I was coaching at Praierview,
And you know, my house paid for, my truck paid
for so I owe Praview a great deal of that too.
So I'm just happy to go up there, and you know,
see two schools that I have a great fund for
hopefully player outstaying the football game.

Speaker 4 (29:40):
Unfortunately for one.

Speaker 2 (29:41):
School, and you know, it's almost like I wish we
could go back and play for times, almost, but unfortunately
one they gonna be the smartest coaches and the best
players in the world, and the other one was gonna
be the dumbest players.

Speaker 4 (29:55):
And the dumbest coaches or the worst coaches.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
So hopefully, I don't know how gonna work out, but
I'm just looking for a good game, and I think
it's gonna be probably a full point or less game.

Speaker 1 (30:06):
Okay, Well, one way or the other, the heat is
going to be turned up in somebody's camp at the
end of this one and one thing we can't tell
you guys that you can't listen to the game live
on the YouTube channel here at.

Speaker 3 (30:17):

Speaker 1 (30:19):
Kickoff will be at six pm Central time. Be sure
to check it out. Coach Northern Phillip doing an outstanding job.
Coaches a little local celebrities days. You know, he's all
over the place doing different shows and contents.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
This is what happened when you become a guru her coach.

Speaker 4 (30:40):
Hey man, I'm not a guru.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
I am enjoying my though, to be honest with because
they said, at the end of the day, I want
to be an athletic director somewhere on somebody's highline.

Speaker 4 (30:51):
Helping a young coach or a coach be a better coach.

Speaker 2 (30:55):
And then also if that doesn't work out, I'm not
saying if it doesn't work out, but if I end
up being on the TV side of things, then that's
something that.

Speaker 4 (31:04):
I always want to do.

Speaker 2 (31:05):
So either way it go, like I say, I'm gonna
be alright and here both of those don't work out.

Speaker 1 (31:10):
