Speaker 1 (00:02):
And welcome to another episode of Little Locker Room. It's
time for us to get in down deep into the
exits and the o's and talk to the Guru himself,
none other than Coach Van Petaway. Coach, how you doing today, sir?

Speaker 2 (00:17):
How dol great? This is a great day, another great
day that He's given us, and I'm doing my best
to enjoy it.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Well, sir, I'm gonna try if you allow me to
get on that train with you and we'll journey on
down the road together. How about that?

Speaker 2 (00:31):
That is? That would be perfect?

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Yes, sir, Just now, little coach, some some good stuff
happened over the weekend. We're gonna recap that and look
at what lies ahead. We're gonna give our some grades
and get a little feedback.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Man.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
I'm interested to see what kind of grades you got
for us this week, sir.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Right right in fact with it with this over under thing. Uh,
you gain it a little ground here? Try to get
you twice, though, coach, get you twice. Yes, it was
a it was a good week. It was a good week.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
Alrighty.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Here we go. Let's give out a few grades. Here.
We had Arkansas Pine Bluff in all coins states, Arkansas.
Pine Bluff won that game twenty four to twenty. I'm
better to give Pine Bluff. I'm una giving them an
aid for winning that game, and I'll go go. I
have to take a sea on this.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
I'm giving a BEE for pine Bluff, and I'm giving
a C minus for all Coin and the reason I'm
a little disappointed in what all Corn has been generating
of late, and so I don't want to get too
excited about pine Bluff just yet, but I am gonna
give him a be.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Sir, okay. And then you know that game was played
in Memphis the thousand.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Uh huh uh huh.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
All right. Next up, Texas Southern went down to mind
beat them from Mississippi Valley. Texas Outhern won that game
twenty three to twenty. I'm gonna give Texas Southern a
bees and and about because they're only one by three
and and Valley is the same old valley, so I

(02:26):
can't fail them. They'll get a seat.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
I'm actually going to give the Valley a C plus.
And I'm gonna tell you why, coach. They out played
Texas Southern.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
That's what I heard.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
They they out played them. And and if the truth
be told, you know, they always talking about the if
of water could have shools and all that. Really should
have won that game. They really should have won that game.
Uh you can see the change, you can uh you
can feel that momentum. Yould enough at Valley, but still

(03:02):
got a little ways to go. As far as Texas
Southern is concerned, I gave them a C minus. Yeah,
they won the game. It was on the road, but
they were really outplayed, right they were really they were
really outplayed. I don't you know, I don't believe in
that word luck. You know, they just took advantage of

(03:23):
the opportunities when they when they had it. I know
that sounds strange. So that's where I am.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Okay. I then we're gonna go down to Florida where
the taylerhase Florida. Mu Fami, you played host to Alabama State,
Alabama State steam Road Florida and them to tune or
forty two to fourteen. Bama State don't get an A
plus and I'm gonna give a famue a these.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
We count on that same page, coach, because I'm definitely
uh body Sould. I was body sold when he was
at Texas Southern, and I just knew if this young
man just can state up right you had something special
now down in Alabama's and I'm okay with that D
as well. It really and truly I started to give

(04:12):
him a D minus because something's wrong. Coach Now, I
did get some good news about the athletic director, you know,
to a degree.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Correct, you know, and charges, yes, right right, right right,
But but Coles is gonna be facing some charge if
he don't get it right down there.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Rat the Nations, Well.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
I think I think the fans are already showing that
because when you look at attendance, they don't have thirteen
thousand people for uh huh for a game of that magnitude.
So that that's showing that the people, the fans are
staying away. So yes, sir, that that that could be
the beginning of.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
The head, yes sir.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
All right, Next up, we're gonna run down to Baton
Rouge where Southern played host to Jackson State. Jackson State
is who we say they are in there that game.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
And a bag of chills.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Jackson and Coach Grave they're gonna have to get a D.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Yeah. Yeah, once again, Southern you you you know, they
kind of played possum early in the season, you know,
they kind of drag out the gate. Then they started
picking it up. I don't know what's going on. Uh.
And we talked about the heat at rapid Nation and
jag Nation. They jumping out of windows right about now.

(05:34):
I'm I'm along with you on that deep performance, Alabama State.
I mean, I'm sorry, Jackson State. The proofers in the
putting coach, they're they're a bound. They're a bound, sir.
It's unfortunately right now it seems between they and Alabama State. Man,
somebody gonna come up short.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Yes, yeah, to two of the best teams in the
Swack in the same yes, sir, Yes, of course they
had a hard sell out over twenty seven thousand dollars.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Yeah, now that was very impressive. Then it This was
a quote unquote regular game. Wasn't a classic game, but
it was a classic within the footprint of the conference.
But not a dub classic game, but very strong attendance
in bad Ruge, right right, all.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Right, And then we'll go back up in the state
of Florida where my Bulldogs went down to daytona Beast
to play for Thorne Cookman. For Thorne Cookman won that
game forty one and thirty four. But Thorne Cookman to
get an A in this one, and I don't have
to get my bulldogs a CE. I almost gave him

(06:42):
a D, but but I'm I'm gonna be a little
I did it because you know, we're playing with the
backup quarterback.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
He's not hunted.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
I was there in person. They said, I think they
announced attendance at five fifty two hundred. They were not
fifty two hundred people in that stadium. But but uh
it was a great Uh it's a nice venue. Now
they play at a high school stadium that the city
has allowed them to convert to their home field because

(07:13):
of all of them. Everything in there is the throne Cookman.
But uh yeah, yeah, but but I have to give
them a bulldogs. Uh, I'll see on this.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
Okay, Now, I thought you the game one more because
what this one? Your brother's trip? This this trip man.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
And that's why I gave it to them, because it's
another the tent way. We showed up hard and heaven,
you know, you know, all the way to their television
to want that, and and uh we we had fun.
And you know, I don't want to keep shaming the
throne Cookman. But there were only four r vs in

(07:51):
the park and we were one of the four. So
you know that that tells you that that uh uh
things are not cooking too well for dual cooking. That
the Thames too far from campus. That's what that is.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Okay, okay, it's too too far from camp. Well, when
you when you're dealing no charity, you have to take
what's offered right and make the adjustment. Now, as far
as the game, I'm giving withoom cooking in in a
as well, but I was a little bit more generous
because the fact you all were playing with a backup.
I gave you all a B minus. Coach.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Now, no, you can't give up over two hundred yards
rushing and you got to be able to stop somebody.
They we couldn't stop the run, and uh that doomed
the Bulldogs.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
Okay, okay, okay, all right.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
So now let's go to the to the classic that
was the real classic. Uh go out to Dallas where
uh grabbling and and no prayer View Panthers hooked up
a boy, oh boy prayer. If you won that game
twenty eight to thirteen, I'm gonna give you a Panthers

(08:57):
an a grabbling rather state will get a ce miners
and uh your sixty one thousand people that showed up
bigger to name.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Okay, okay, I gazed my beloved panthers, A B plus
the best game. Oh yes, sir, let me let me
clear the air, sir, let me clear the air. We
missed the field goal. Okay, miss the field goal, but
by four by four. This was the best performance of

(09:33):
the year for my beloved Panthers. Ran for another two
hundred and twenty two rushing yards in the past two games. Coach,
they didn't rushed along for almost six hundred yards.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
Wow, that's they only get a B from A B plus, sir,
A B plus B plus.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
Okay, there's a difference. Now, you know what. They didn't
die an, I didn't cross the t, you know. And
you can't get excited in all one motion. Now this
week is a statement game for me because you got
a down off porn okay, and you can really separate yourself.

(10:15):
So I can't get out there too here yet I
gave them strong. They got a passing grade. They got
a passing grade. Now when we get to grambling, on
the other hand, not so passed per if you dominated them,
coach dominated them. And and in the morning, I was
gonna go to a minor. I'm gonna stay at my

(10:36):
B plus. I'na I'm gonna stay at my B plusure,
I'm gonna stay. But I gave Grambling a D minus. Wow,
I gave Yeah, I gave I gave him a D minus.
There's nothing person I don't I don't put any personal
vibes in these picks. I just try to call them
like I see them.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Coach rights case. They you know, two of their games
they played down so they really couldn't get a game right,
type of team that they truly have. Right for all
the things that you have named and discussed this morning
about how dominant the pathos were, I think your your

(11:13):
your greatest scale is is a little long, a little
little out, A plus. They, if anything, they should have
gotten an A minus. But but you know that a
dominant performance means that they at least did.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
A work well. And here's once again, because of the
competition they were up against. That's why I gave a
B plus. Yes, it was a conference game, okay, but
but but Grambling was one of the most suspect three
and ones I've seen in a long time. So that's
why I'm not getting over excited, if you will, coach, right,

(11:50):
there's a method to my man, got yeh, yeah, you know,
there's a method to my madness. There's a method to
my man, you know.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
And then uh, so that that was that was still
a good week for the swag.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
You know, my Bulldogs were probably the only team that
that did not step up, and and they were the
favorite going into that game and they didn't step up.
But you know that that's just one game for coach
uh Shade, so that that's just bruper. So now he's
got a rebound from that.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
I know that's right. I know that's right.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
And then on the Midax side, they had some some
great games over there also North Carolina CENTSU with the
after He's detections, they and them and and uh they
had a shootout fifty the forty two out there in Commons.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
Yes, they called it a Marley Brawley coach.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
Now, I canna tell you a game that I kept
an eye on. I was very disappointed. I guess it's
the Circle City Classic. Yeah, yes, because it was played
in in Annapolis. But Margant stayed in Miles and unless
it's a missprint, they on through three thousand.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
Fans, coach letting the greatest matchup man.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
Right, But how but that's that that's been a fund
raise over the years and they didn't raise any fars
on that one. Went on the people showing up.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
That's not a sexy ticket, coach. I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
You know, Morgan State and Miles and then then your
meeting in Indianapolis. I can see like, who are they?
Where they from?

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Right? And I think that's what from the attendance, that's
what everybody was saying, yes, yes, So that means that
that they're uh, they're on alumn I didn't show up
in the mass for that game the indian area.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
I'm Morgan State of Miles people in Indiana. I'm just asking, coach.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
I don't know, because over the years that has been
one of the top HBCU draws when it comes to
claw huh because we uh our athletic director where we
played in that came back in the nineties and I
think we've been into three times. M uh. In fact,
we were we were the first, we were part of

(14:10):
the first sellout. We met Grambling up there, and it
was the first sellout uh for the certain city classes.
So it's uh. I was just a little disappointed when
I saw those numbers. And for some reason, I'm I'm
zoning in on numbers this year because of the way
the climbing has changed. And we've got to show our

(14:32):
fans and our alumni that it's very important that we
support our institutions, yes, especially in this day and and
and you can support them with your with your financial donation,
but you also got to uh support them in person.
You gotta show up when your team.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
Plays, whether they're shut at home or on the road.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
So uh, I'm sorry, but that's that's my little rant.
But but look we'll get into this week. We got
another great week and up uh in the SWAT football. Uh.
And by the way, you you won your game. Uh
you said they would be over forty four and a
half points scored in that in the game against the

(15:16):
Dune Cookman, so uh, you're one up on that.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
So yeah, that was my that was my bonus comeback.
That was my bonus comeback. You wouldn't let me double
up on you, though, Man, I'm disappointed in your coach.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Yeah, all right after Gate first game, big game, but
Thorne Cookman at Alabama.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
State coach, I'm kicking the hornet, sir, until proven otherwise.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
Thank you all day.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
Yeah, I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
It go'll be kind of hard for me to go
against mister body now. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
Well see, and that was that's why I'm so torn
with Alabama State past few years. Coach Robinson been doing
a great job, and I've said I'm bought in with
age Shoe, and they let me down and they kind
of like how Valley be doing me sometime, coach. But
but but man, they looking good, man, they looking good?

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Right, this might be this might be the year for
them to make a little noise. And and for the
first time, I wish there were no divisions.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
Now, I know.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
If there were no divisions that that Swag Championship would
be Jackson and Alabama State.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
Well Sea coach, you kind of remember, y'all thought I
was a little crazy when I made the proposal that
we just get rid of the visions. Everybody play everybody
and you get a cut. See you would eliminate that stuff.
But see then get that, y'all, y'all throw me out
with the baby in the bath water at time to time,
but I do make sense after a while.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
Yep. Yeah, But I'm gonna be honest. Now, I was
in agreement with you on that one.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
Now, okay, okay, all right, now.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
Here we go. We got uh. Now, this is gonna
be a tough one. Arkansas Pine Bluff at Texas Southern.

Speaker 1 (16:59):
I'm taking Pine Bluff.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
Tes you at home. Time Bluff just one their game,
taking the Southern one their game.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
Uh, I'm gonna agree with you, sir.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
I think Time Bluff is playing a little bit better. Yeah, alright,
Florida and m at Valley knowing that Valley got their number, Well,
how you see it?

Speaker 1 (17:26):
I just talked about how Valley does me bad. You know, Coach.
It's rough with rather nation right now. It's rough, but
it's still rallied nations.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
Yep, yep.

Speaker 1 (17:46):
I'm taking tam you. I'm taking fail you.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
I'm in agreement, sir. I think they're gonna strike and
strike again. Yes, it's gonna be a close game, but
I think Sam is gonna prevail because you know what.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
I just thought about the policy was that I'm sorry,
I didn't mean to catch I've just had one of
your moments. The devil and the snake. Wow.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Yeah, you know, yep, kick them right, kick them. That's
and that's what this game is about. But I'm gonna
pick the Ratlers. I'm gonna pick the Ratlers, right, you know,
you know family, they got that bit of taste in
the mouth from losing last year at home. Uh huh, yep,
uh huh, all right it next up we got.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
TV at all, cours.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
I don't think this is hard.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
No, this is not hard at all.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
Coach next, yes, sir, playing well, coach. Coach. Coach might
be the closest mouth a little bit and started doing
a little coaching.

Speaker 1 (18:55):
Now, uh huh. Let let the let the boys do
the talking and you do the walk.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
Yeah. Now, early in the sceneson I thought it was
gonna be a good game. But uh in mobile on Saturday,
Jackson State is gonna play Alabama and.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
Them, which you mean you thought it was gonna be
a good game.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
Yeah, I know Coachet and and and Cuard Brown was
gonna give him a run for their money. But the
way Jackson State is playing.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
What stop the precious sir, stop the press.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
I'm going with my mind and not my heart. Now,
I'm going with my mind and my heart. I always
be with the bull Dogs.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
I do understand it.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
No way, no way I can in the right mind
gonna get jas States.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
As they were saying the church with a potion of
my mind. I ain't no way you're going against Jackson,
stated coach.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
That's right, and I now, and I assume that you
agree with me.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
Oh, there ain't no need to assume, sir, there's no
need to assume it.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
Look, I love your coach, but we're playing well, we're
competing right now, right, yes, sir.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
Yes, sir. Now we may have a matted up in
the media act that could be our time breaker because
right now we have tied on everything, Norfolk State at Hampton.

Speaker 3 (20:19):
And Norfolk State at Hampton. I'm gonna take Norfolk State.

Speaker 1 (20:29):
Sir.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
Wow, Well that's not gonna do us any good because
I'm with them. Also, Michael big hands up none, I'm serious,
Michael vicer has I'm playing pretty good. Uh huh uh
huh Okay, So now we gotta go back to this
this day which I've been losing to this this Oh
what what game are you gonna pick?

Speaker 1 (20:52):
Well, let's see, let's see, we picked your bulldog game
last week, right, correct, correct, and you know what, let's
pick Let's pick the Fam You Valley game?

Speaker 2 (21:07):
Uh? Should we go with your paths? We can't beat
the Bulldogs last week?

Speaker 1 (21:13):
It doesn't matter, coach. I gotta get whatever ground I
can get on you, sir, whatever I think, I'm not.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
Sure if whatever is over hundred thing is? I haven't
figured it out yet. What you mean, I'm not too
I'm not too sure about it. How you supposed to
do this? But let's try it.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Let's okay, Well, we don't have to pick an over
and under. We don't have to pick an over and under.
We can do something totally different. We can just guess
the score and whoever get closer to the score.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
How about that the score which game?

Speaker 1 (21:46):
Whichever game you like? We could get back to go
back to the yeah, yeah, yeah, family and valid Okay,
the Family Valley game, sir? Now, were both picking FAM
to win the game? Correct?

Speaker 2 (21:58):
Correct?

Speaker 1 (21:59):
So whoever comes closest to the score that's under the
score not over, would win. And if we're both over,
then whoever's the short is from whatever over is that
would be figured it out.

Speaker 2 (22:11):
Okay, when you go first, then oh.

Speaker 1 (22:13):
Oh, are you gonna make me? Well? Let's see, fam
you valley and in a bet off, I am going
to say that Valley will come a little short and
the score is going to be twenty seven to twenty

(22:34):
fam you.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
Okay, you said twenty seven twenty.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
Fans uh huh.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
So that means you think it's gonna be a too
so so so that are you saying that? So the
difference in us picking is the seven.

Speaker 1 (22:51):
Points, not necessarily seven points, like for example, it's almost
like the over under, but not quite the over under.
There's twenty oh okay, well the over under. It was
like you what to what you think the total score
is going to be in that combined score, Either it's

(23:14):
going to be over that score or under that score.

Speaker 2 (23:18):
You know, in this case that's that's forty seven points to.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
Right, so right now to add to where if you
can't be exact on it, that forty seven now would
turn to forty seven and a half, okay, because if
it was actually forty seven, then you steal right back
where he came from. And what that half always does,
it gives you wiggle room to the positive or the
negative size. So if you were to go, if I

(23:45):
was the goal forty seven and you go forty eight,
you say over, and if it was at forty eight,
you would win. It was at forty seven, I would win.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
All right, I'm gonna go, Okay, you got twenty seven twenty,
so I'll go. I'm gonna go twenty five twenty. I'm
gonna go twenty.

Speaker 1 (24:11):
Five twenty, twenty five twenty yes, okay, so twenty five twenty.
So if we were picking over under, you know, like
we did last time, I would say it was forty
five and a half. You would say under, so you
would be under that, so you would be hoping for
anything under. So we got you twenty five twenty right right,
And see, I think what you what I'm doing is
I'm exposing myself.

Speaker 2 (24:31):
I'm gonna let you know I don't know nothing about
no gambling or.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
Will neither be our coach. That's why I just said
the the over, I don't gam the only gamble I
take it across the street.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
That's what I said. That's why I took that back.
I just don't understand the numbers system when it comes
to trying to figure stuff out like this, but it
and you know, I really don't understand, coach, how they
be so well, I understand they beat somebody's getting paid somewhere.

Speaker 1 (24:57):
How close they be to something most of these fits.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
Oh yeah, that's true, that's true. That's true. Yep. I
guess they got all kind of inside and outside of
information to come up with them picks.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
Yeah, and some guns and people backs too. You better,
you better not kick that field goal, you know, whatever
the case they mean. So we as they say, we
learned on the fly on there and and and that's okay,
but whatever the case may be, I need to come
up with that victory yet again. So, uh, we got

(25:29):
all that, and you're touched on something coach earlier that
made me, uh say, you know what, I can ribble
that in as well as a talking point this week,
And it's got something to do with the tendonce, it's
got something to do with the mindset of athletics as
we see it right now, and uh, where people are

(25:52):
not coming to the games. And my question was, do
you think it's because we have too much access by
way of streaming and internet while people are not coming
to these games.

Speaker 2 (26:04):
I think that's a part of it. I think that's
a small part of it. But I just think our
mentality when it comes to our institutions, is not where
it needs to be. I just think that we don't
put the emphasis on the support it both financially and
otherwise when it comes to our institution. I think that's

(26:26):
what that's the mindset. I think that has a change.
That mindset has the change in order for us to survive,
and even more now so because of the declimate. You know,
with N I M and the port and all of that,
we're not gonna survive.

Speaker 1 (26:43):
Now at this rate, we're gonna do you think it's
gonna get any better.

Speaker 2 (26:50):
It's got to if we're gonna survive, it's got to.
We gotta have we gotta have more of us become
big dollars. You know, people say, well, I gave him
fifty dollars. What was it gonna do? What? What? What?
What fifty dollars gonna do?

Speaker 1 (27:05):
That's not dollars might get your dog, might get your dog.

Speaker 2 (27:10):
Right right right? So, uh, we just gotta I don't
think anybody has figured this thing out when it comes
to the HBCUs, but we got to get our tears.
Our mindset has changed, and we got to start with
them freshmen as soon as they hit campus. We got
to create an environment where they would feel comfortable enough

(27:31):
that when they walk across their stage they want to
help the next generation by giving back.

Speaker 1 (27:37):
Well, uh, what I've learned about support, donating and giving
and and it's and it's been, uh, I guess, a
constant for years. Even the most economically chanted lenged people.

(28:03):
When it's something in their mind that they're set to
want to do and support, they find a way to
support it. And we have a tendency to say, well,
I don't have one thousand dollars, I don't have two
thousand dollars, which sounds like a lot if you're, as

(28:25):
they say, living from check to check. Okay, But there's
no saying, coach, I know when I said, you're gonna
say yeah, I remember that I grew up on. My
mother grew up on, and her mother grew up on.
And it's called lay away the coature. And for those

(28:46):
younger folks that might be listening to a season folk
talk right now, lay away was like a promise. You
go and pick out an item, put a little change
down on it, and you pay on it every week
until Jill, you know, you paid off that bill and
it was interest free for the most part, you paid
your taxes on it, and then that's how we used

(29:08):
to do a Christmas shopping. You give me, Coach, and
the same concept. You could make a pledge of twelve
hundred dollars and I'm using that for round simplicity factory. Here, Coach,
one hundred dollars a done, yes, sir. Now, the average person, man,
I can't afford one hundred dollars a month. You probably

(29:30):
can't while you're looking at one hundred dollars a month.
But I guarantee you that between nickknacking and snacking, you're
spending one hundred dollars a month. And if you took
that little knickknack money and made it toward the support
of your programs or your beloved universe, that twelve hundred

(29:55):
dollars a year, Coach could be a mollywop man if
you had, even if you had a thousand people to
commit to that right, that thing one could work. And
here's another little if you want to add some little

(30:15):
pride to it, a little pride to it. My loved
university was sounded in eighteen seventy six. If I would
pledge one eight hundred and seventy six dollars a year
toward that which comes out to about two hundred and
thirty three dollars, has some change a month. Think I
had figured that part out before.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
Coach.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
You know you could do a little simple patriotic pledge
like that, you know, in support of your answer. We
have to be a little creative and don't feel shamed.
And coach, guess what you might can only give one
hundred eighty seven dollars and sixty seven cent if that's

(30:57):
what you could do, do something. And and here's the
big part. Here's the big part. Now, when you give
it's needed, don't come in there trying to tell the
coaches how to coach. Don't come in there and think
you fold gave the city in at the business meetings. Well,
I paid my money. And don't say and you know

(31:19):
what what rubs me? Raw boy? You're talking about the rant.
I'm on one now, coach, see what you sing? Don't
get up there. I'm a seezing ticket holder. And yes, yes, okay,
you know if you say preachtoe you say you know
and no rock you know. But but come on, man,

(31:44):
it's part of ours, our duty, it's part our responsibility,
it's part of being an alum. It's part of being
a fan, it's part of being a supporter.

Speaker 2 (31:56):
Right and see, I'm I'm here on the profective on
the efecting year eighteen seventy five. We we celebrate one
hundred and fifty years this year past this year in
twenty twenty five, and the theme was intra mention of
one fifty just like you just said, one fifty fifteen,

(32:18):
one hundred and fifty thousand, And I'm I'm a member
of that fifteen hundred club and not know one fifty
nine I didn't make. Now, my contract told me that
I was in the million dollar bracket. It would be
that one point.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
I know that's right, coach, I know that's right.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
Yep, yep, I know that the correct people. I think
people when when you do a hard number, like one
hundred or one thousand dollars, that looks big, but when
you break it down, and this is how you tell
my players, I said, fellas, think about it this way.
If you and and you took somebody else out to lunch,
one of your partners, all female, you're gonna spend one

(32:57):
hundred dollars.

Speaker 1 (32:58):
Oh was you?

Speaker 2 (32:59):
You would spend one hundred.

Speaker 1 (33:01):
Dollars, no doubt, hip.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
Right, and you think nothing of that. So when they
you to donate one hundred, that's in your wheelhouse.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
Yes, sir, that's in your wheelhouse.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
And you absolutely correct in your wheelhouse. You know, think
that our mentality has to change.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
Well and and and that's a that's another thing too.
If by season passed, well, you know I gotta get something.
By season pass, well, I don't go to the game.
Give them to somebody.

Speaker 2 (33:33):
Yes, that that's how that's how you that's how you
create uh interest from somebody else, Like we would buy
and give them to youth in the community, somebody that
may not cannot afford to go to the game. But
eventually some of those kids become students at the institution. Yes,

(33:53):
and that's and that's that's what we have to that's
how we have to think. Uh. When I ran the
NYS people we always sent kids to We bought tickets
and gave away for them to attend football and basketball
games to get those kids interested and seeing the college life,
seeing the college atmosphere, and that helped spark them understanding

(34:19):
that their education is very important to them for them
and they can themselves one day, be the ones buying
the tickets for somebody else. No, you got to continue
to do stuff like that.

Speaker 1 (34:32):
Yes, sir, we're in the locker room with the guru,
Coach vamped away. We've been made our picks. We've been
doing all kinds of stuff. But Coach, I got another
little topic I want to share with you. And and
look you're gonna get inside. So I'm whispering right now.
I did a little research, and I stay under the radar.

(34:55):
You know, I do a lot of stuff behind the scenes. Coach,
I've been doing this stuff for a long time. And
you know, my light ain't figured out. It ain't damn.
It's still bright, you know, you know, might be a
little dusty, but it's still light lights up right, And
the big issue has been swacked TV, right, I think, Coach,

(35:18):
I think I may have come up with a solution. Okay,
think I'm gonna come up with a solution and hopefully
it'll make sense. And for the record, for the record,
I've written this piece out and I'm going to send
it to the powers that be at the Swack office.
And I'm not you know, I'm not no authoritailor my

(35:41):
position to say this is what you're gonna do. But
I want to share because I believe in the concept.
I believe in this conference, and I've been trying to
support this conference to the best of my little ability
for a long time. And here it is, Coach. The
Swack TV platform is a beautiful concept, but it's it's

(36:06):
got some growing pains right now, right, and the buffering
and they oh the buffer and the buff from the buffering.
But when you go back and look at the games
on the on the delay, they come through pretty clip
clip Right. We were on Swack Digital Network, you had
no buffer initials. And the reason why because they had

(36:30):
what they call this cd C deal, the Content Distribution Center.
It is so robust on the platform of the servers
and everything, and the server bit rates adjust to your area.
If your area has low of the Internet power, then

(36:54):
it reduces the resolution and all that. And YouTube got
all that working behind the scenes, right, so let's take
advantage of that until we can get caught up to
speed on our baby. So my recommendation is this, Coach,
keep the games free and available on YouTube on game day,

(37:18):
but as soon as the game is over with, you
push that content to the Slack TV Okay, you can't
go back and see it on YouTube. Just make it
where they can't do it, because they can set it
where they can't see it back on YouTube. Then push
those that missed it to your site until you can
get caught up with the with the internal mechanisms, it's

(37:40):
going to make your product metal.

Speaker 2 (37:42):
So so you say that a delayed broadcast doesn't have buffer.

Speaker 1 (37:47):
Is no, no, no, no no. When you go to the
delayed content on slack tv, it plays all the way
through with no problem. Right right, there's no buffering because
what's going on when you go live. This can imagine
a funnel if you would, right, coach, and that the

(38:09):
funnel at the top of the funnel is wide open
and everything is good. Everybody can download and get it.
When everybody is trying to get into one tiny area
at the same time, it creates that buffer in the
backup and the log jam. Yep, okay, So what happens
now with the using the YouTube platform as the live seed,

(38:34):
then it's not a funnel any longer. It's just a
big jug because wide open, because this thing is worldwide,
and you could be in Alabama, I could be in Texas.
Someone can be in Baton Rouge and watch the same game,
and I have not one buffering issue.

Speaker 2 (38:51):
Wow, that's interesting.

Speaker 1 (38:53):
Yes, sir, Yes, sir. Now it sounds like when coach
I'll be I'm thinking sometimes I'm not just a talking head. Coach.
I try to come up with a solution every now
and then. And I know, I know I'm considered old
school in this game, but old school still works.

Speaker 2 (39:11):
Oh yeah, absolutely, yes sir.

Speaker 1 (39:16):
It So, so what do you think about that, coach?

Speaker 2 (39:19):
I like it. I like it if I mean, if
if what you're saying is correct, then that that is
a solution.

Speaker 1 (39:27):
It's a solution, yes, sir. And then when you really
get a cooking good, if you if you really want
to be someone about this name coach, here'll come as
we used to say in the back, then he'll come
up pinocci hit Now if you if if we are
willing to pay ten ninety nine, eleven ninety nine, twelve

(39:48):
ninety nine to be a part of an ecosystem to
get our content, why can't we commit to four ninety nine,
six ninety nine or twelve I'm ninety nine for your
very own content. Okay, well, you don't have to share
the crimes and the pennies you get the lion's share.

(40:10):
And here's how you can make that happen. Man, I'm
feeling good right now, coach. I'm feeling good right now
with the same YouTube concept, right with the same YouTube concept.
If you make it. There are certain ways you can
set the settings up where you create like a game
day ticket, okay, where you make your purchase and when

(40:36):
you make your purchase, you gain access to watch the
game live and when it's over with the rebroadcasts on
swag TV.

Speaker 2 (40:48):
What you do. I think that some of the schools
have that. I think that's just like but he and them.
It's called Bulldog all access.

Speaker 1 (40:55):
Uh huh.

Speaker 2 (40:56):
You can pay, and you pay your game is Life,
buy the ticket, uh huh, and you get and you're
getting to watch it.

Speaker 1 (41:04):
Yes, sir, alive, Yes, yes, yes, sir.

Speaker 2 (41:06):
That's good.

Speaker 1 (41:07):
Yeah, yes, sir, Yes, sir. So that that that was
that's been my I guess my my soapbox for the week, sir.
And you know, I'm glad you were tying enough to
let me get it off my chins.

Speaker 2 (41:21):
But that's that's interesting. But everything that you have said
and I've said is for the betterment of our institution
in our conference.

Speaker 1 (41:29):
Oh yes, sir, yes, sir for me, yep, yes sir.
So so ain't no need to apologize right cot about
it at all?

Speaker 2 (41:36):
All right, no, no apology, sir.

Speaker 1 (41:38):
All right. Well, with that being said, sir, the air
is clear, we can move on to the next day's
journey and I can hear some closing thoughts and comments
from you for this week.

Speaker 2 (41:47):
Right. Well, it's been a very interesting day, a lot
of information out there, like always, and I just want
to continue once again to encourage you to continue to
do what you do because we definitely you need it.
And now you and your program at a breath of
fresh air.

Speaker 1 (42:07):
Well, thank you so much, sir, Thank you so much
for your kind words. Your thoughts are more important to
your contribution. And some of y'all don't realize. It's scary
sometimes how it lies APPARENTLEL when we get to talking
about some stuff and we go like, no, man, you kid,
I'm not kidding cold. I'm like, oh my god.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
You know so.

Speaker 1 (42:26):
I don't believe in accidents. I believe everything happens by
the divine plan of our Lord has saved you. And
I'm truly thankful sir that he's allowed us to cross paths.
