Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's the radio guy, doctor Mike Prince. Welcome to another
production here at the open Mic Broadcast Network, where it
is our mission try to bring you some news you
could use.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Today is no exception to the rule.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
You can follow me on Twitter x at the Mike
Print Show, subscribe to the YouTube channel at the open
Mic Broadcast Network, check out our twenty four hour stream
at obnradio dot com. We even have a twenty four
hour message text line you can chime in on at
nine three six four six three two four zero five.

(00:37):
With all that being established, let us jump right into
today's episode. We do want to thank the Preview Athletic
Club and the Temple of Refuge Ministries for being our
top tier sponsors and supporters for programming here at the
open Mic Broadcast Network. Well, the obvious thing is that

(00:59):
the game was this past weekend Prairieview and Alabama State.
Good game. Prairie come up on the short end of
the stick. Some concerns towards the end on some play calling,
clock management, but that's part of the game flow, right,
You win.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Some, you lose some.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Prairie fall short thirty one twenty eight to Alabama State.
The good thing about it is that Prairieview still maintains
the inside lane for the Western Division of the Southwestern
Athletic Conference. The disappointing part of it is Praiview was
in prime position to actually host the championship game if

(01:41):
they advanced that far. However, they came up short Alabama
State with a must win game on.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
The heels of Jackson State.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Jackson State found a way to win at Tallahassee against
sam U So those two will still try to fight
it out on the east where now it's still I'm
going to say safe and high percentage to assume that
Prairieview can last.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
From the west.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Only thing is they will definitely have to put on
traveling shoes. The way things are shaping up right now,
it's just a matter of would it be to Montgomery,
Alabama or to Jackson State. But either way you look
at it, Prairie View is not deserving of playing and

(02:34):
hosting a championship game. Not playing the championship game, but
hosting the championship game.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
Why do I say that?

Speaker 1 (02:45):
It's obvious, you know, and it's all over social media
right now. But you know, I'm not going to say
I told you so, But people call me an ogre,
a relic to be harping on attendance and don't focus on.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
That blah blah blah.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
But it is what it is. Attendance is an issue.
It's beyond an issue. It's subscription. We got so many
problems when it comes to attendance, and I don't want
to hear about Well, that's the way it is all over.
I didn't go all over. I graduated from Prairie View.
I'm a part of the swack and it's important to

(03:20):
me that charity begins at home. And right now it's
just not happening, and that's just part of the problem.
And I might as well get on this right now.
Bring me back my gold for consistency. I don't want
this yellow stuff. I don't want to look like LSU.
I don't want to look like anybody else. I want

(03:43):
to look like Prairieview. Give me back that gold. But
I'll get back on that in just the moment. It
was reported that fifty nine hundred people showed up for
this past weekend's game, and that is.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Terrible. It's just terrible.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
You have the two premier teams, well, let's not let's
say the two premier teams. You have two of the
three premier teams facing off in your backyard, and you
can only muster fifty nine hundred people to come to

(04:25):
the stadium, And if the truth be told, that was
a generous number.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
I really do not believe.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
That it was fifty nine hundred people in the building
in the stadium, but that's the number reported, So that's
the number we'll go with.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Prior to that, they reported eleven thousand.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
People in the stadium for homecoming against Lincoln. I don't
believe that number neither, But like you say, you have
what you have. It is what it is. And let
me say this, this is not solely on administration. This
has nothing to do with team performance. This is about

(05:12):
fan base. This is about fan involvement. This is about
students involvement. And I know that everyone is not into sports,
and a lot of people really don't care about sports,
and sports and the reality of things is a very
small percentage of the blueprint of a higher archy of education.

(05:37):
And I get all of that, But if you're going
to compete, if you're going to be in the game,
if you're going to build these facilities and keep reaching
and striving for quote unquote championships that you've got the
line up as a fan base to help endure these expenses,

(06:02):
to help endure the energy, if you would, now one
thing that I can honestly say, and Coach Jackson and
any other coach, but we're just talking about football right now.
You're going to always have the mentality is us against
the world. Regardless if people show up or not, They're
going to have to play the game. They're going to

(06:22):
have to do everything they can within their power to
win the game. And that's all Coach Jackson and the
crew can do. But when it comes to how much
I support, how much I like, and let me put
this out there, I don't want to hear about what
you're doing, you know, you know, like people say, well
I do my part, Well that's great, But we're talking

(06:44):
about a collective movement, a collective movement, and it's really embarrassing.
As much as we love Prairie View, as much as
we are quick to say that Praiview produces productive people,
then where is it showing up into the stands, Where

(07:09):
is it showing up into the energy. And I'm not
gonna even get too much on the energy part. You know,
but you know, if you do show up, show up
with some purpose, show up with some enthusiasm, show up
with support. We shouldn't have to be coached on when
the cheer when it's third down and whatever. For the

(07:30):
opposing team, chear your heads off, don't make noise when
it's third down. For the Panthers, be quiet support and
push the team towards victory. But whatever the case may be,
however the case may be, you gotta sprinkle the magic
theory dust to help generate interest. Whatever the case is,

(07:54):
it is not happening, and that's unfortunate, that's really sad.
And then don't get on the offensive when people call
you out, oh man, PV fans, is this one PVS saying, Well,
for the most part, they can only comment on what
they're seeing. Don't get on the defensive talking about oh man,

(08:15):
y'all ya ya da da da da and ya da
da da dad, and then give me the lame excuse that, hey,
if you win, we'll do better.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
No, no, no, no, and no. If you look at
the truth of the matter, Prairie View has been very competitive,
very productive in this case on football pretty Dog one
consistently ten fifteen years or so.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
So that's not the excuse. That's not the excuse. Whatever
it was. Raining, well, raining is part of nature. Raining
is part of being in the I guess the synergy
of supporting your team.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
It's not raining every weekend there's a home game. That's
not always excuse.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
Then.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
I've even heard some of the lame.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
Well, the people have hangover from homecoming, well number one
number one.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Hangover from what.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
Oh oh, we're talking about the r V rental that
you really can't afford or you're trying to high side
and and and and that they say, filibuster or just
be a complete fraud of acting like you got it
when you don't have it, and you know what, you
can spend your money how you want to spend it.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
That's signed.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
It's you know, tomato tomorrow, if you like it, I
love it. But that's that's that's that's an excuse. It's
no hangover. Either you're down with it or you're not.
And at this stage of the game you roll with
who is and move on.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
Now. Am I going to stop addressing this?

Speaker 1 (10:00):
No, I'm not, because it's part of my responsibility really
to report on the good, the bad, and the ugly. Now,
a lot of people don't like it when they see
this side of Mike Brant. Look, Prince Man, you two. No, No,
I'm not being negative. I've been very very patient. I've
been very very low key, laid back taking the high role.

(10:23):
But man, enough is enough as a supporter, as a
content contributor, as a financial contributor. I am fed up
with this lackluster, bougie mentality and behavior when it comes
to the PV Nation fan base. You can like it,
love it, hate it. I don't care. I'm fifty eight

(10:46):
years old for the most part. If it's not for
the Lord, my family and some close friends, this is
what I have and you can agree to disagree with it.
But I'm not lying and on anything that I'm presenting
on this day, and it's just flat out embarrassing, embarrassing.

(11:09):
We had more support during theer and eighty street. We
had more support when we didn't have any facilities. We
have more support when you knew nine times out of
ten what the outcome was going to be. And to
be in the shape that we're in right now, it
is no excuse. There's no rhyme or reason for why

(11:34):
we have what we have. Well, guess what. That's what
it is. That's what you got. And all you can
do is gather up those who care, gather up those
who are concerned, and gather up those who are still
willing to support, and you move on. And you know
it's part of it. When the championships come and you know, oh,

(11:55):
we want to look good when it's on the road.
Oh man, we're in Dallas and we got strong own
numbers and data. Oh that's great, but that doesn't do
me any good. Labor They Classic, Well, I don't even
have to do anything to promote Labor Day Classic. It's
a rival, it's a down the road rival. But I'm
talking about coming in here having some pride about who

(12:18):
represents you. You might not like sports, you might not
like football, you might not even like athletics period, but
it's still representing you.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
And I don't get it. I really don't get it.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
Now you've had you've had the university spend money on
this ticketing marketing group tomorrow. Now they've only been in
place but six nine months or so. Whatever the case
may be hard to gauge on exactly, but when you
look at it, we're really just giving them money based
on the student, not student, but just the perform not performance,

(13:03):
but the attendance, the participation. Tomorrow they're going to get
their money. Range leaves now shine and it's like there's
no return on investment. And you can't put this, as
I mentioned, solely on administration. You can put a lot

(13:28):
of this on student base, participation and alumni. You got
nine thousand or so students on the campus, allegedly.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
I can't get thirty.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
Forty percent of them consistently to come to the game.
And the sad part about it is you are already
being charged for the ticket. And that's another thing when
it comes to counting these numbers and reporting these numbers.
I don't want the number of quote unquote tickets purchase
and this, that and the other. I want numbers of

(14:13):
butts in the sea. And there's a very simplified way
of doing this. You can get even old school hand
clickers at each entry point of the stadium.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
Click the number of people.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
If you don't have a turnstile and account who's going
to be coming in, but click the number of people
that come in, report the number by halftime and give
a true number. And that way, if you're fudging the numbers,
then you're giving false hope. Shame these people to coming out,
take the gloves off and say, hey, yeah, we have

(14:46):
a fifteen thousand sea stadium. We're reporting fifty nine hundred.
I'll be generals to say six thousand. That's still less
than fifty percent. But then if you don't have facilities,
well that's why I don't come. If they are losing consistently,
that's why I don't come. You can't have your cake

(15:09):
and eat it too. It's really frustrating as a coach.
It is frustrating as a player. It's frustrating as a supporter.
It's frustrating as an alumnus. It's frustrating as a journalist

(15:31):
to witness what we're witnessing. Meanwhile, the games must go on.
Perryview was their own worst enemy this past weekend. Four turnovers,
four turnovers, and you're not going to beat quality teams

(15:57):
committing four turnovers. Defensively, Panthers did what they could offensively,
steal a lot of struggles, still a lot of struggles,
and I've been getting the backlash. Well, you know, this
just shows Prairie View was fool's go. They hadn't beat anyone.

(16:24):
And when Alabama State shows in, they locked up, they
froze up.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
I'm not gonna say froze up.

Speaker 1 (16:32):
Maybe maybe, and I'll say maybe one more time. The
false narrative of the Lincoln Universities the North Americas, maybe
we need to really get them off the schedule. And
I'm not saying that the Lincoln game is what led

(16:54):
to Prayiri review coming up sharp, but if we're talking
about being top FCS program, we don't need to be
playing Lincoln's.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
We don't need to be playing North America's.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
I know it's a rigorous, rough schedule, but to whom
much is given, much is required. I'd rather you play
a strong, reputable D two school than to be playing
the Lincolns the North Americans. There's no need for that,
not at the level that praiview is trying to strive to.

(17:31):
But we'll save that topic for another day right now.
When it comes to the branding, perception and the overall
reception of Prairie View A and M Universities Athletics, in

(17:55):
particular football as a brand, it's a big fat L.
And that's not to offend anyone that's not even calling
anyone out, but the fan base, it is what it
is at this stage of the game. At this stage

(18:17):
of the game, if you believe, if you believe that
Coach Jackson is going to continue to put up with this,
you are sadly mistaken.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
And what am I saying when I.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Say that if you believe that after the contract has
come to an end and he's continued to have the
success that he's having now, he might have all the
support that he has with the administration and the financial pieces,
having more coaching help than any other coach in the
history of Purview, but there's still a missing piece, and

(18:56):
that is fan involvement. Fan involvement, there is no rhyme
or reason why you're a head football coach should be
having to go out and plead with people to come
out to the games. He has bigger fish to fry,
way bigger fish to fry. And because of our lackluster involvement,

(19:23):
we get hype for homecoming and we still don't even
show up for the game for homecoming. Anytime there's a
home athletic events that is a homecoming. It might not
be designated officially as homecoming, but every home game is

(19:45):
home coming. And I'm just touching the surface of football
right now. We got basketball season that's really started, whether
you realize it or not. We have baseball seas coming up.
We have all other sports that involved. But if we're
gonna say the main driver is football, if they're not

(20:07):
showing enough of football, what does that say for the
rest of the blueprint? Man, let me get out of here.
I got a whole week of stuff to get going.
This hour has really thrown me off. I was just
really really pose to do the sports Portal live on Sunday.
