(00:20):

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Eight And welcome to a special episode of Diamond Talk.
This week we'll have Coach from his office working out
there on the field at Tankersley Field.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Coach, how you doing today, sir.

Speaker 4 (00:35):
Doom Good doing good? We had fun shining, we got
the wind blowing out, the good day to hit and
uh Panthers kind of game today at one o'clock.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
So okay, okay, who we got face enough sir.

Speaker 4 (00:49):
We've got Alvin Cammerton College today.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
Company, So good opportunity for us.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
You know, it's it's serves two purposes for us, obviously,
Champson to recruit see some of the guys. We've offered
a couple of other guys already, so get a chance
to see how they look on you know, at the
tank and and iously on the other side. Giving our
guys a chance to play somebody in a different jersey
and some more opportunities for us to get better and
learn some stuff about our about ourselves.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Now, what's your schedule format for today? Is going to
be straight? Nine, seven or fourteen combined? What's what's going
to be the format?

Speaker 4 (01:24):
We're gonna play twelve innings today and we'll probably just
play it a little straight, so we're gonna have a
little break after six or seven, but we'll probably just
play straight through.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Okay, Okay, Now I'm I'm assuming, I'm assuming, and you
know that's why'm gonna ask for clarity. You guys, designated
pictures you want to see in rotation on the game situation?

Speaker 3 (01:47):
Do you have a.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Designated pitch count per picture? How do you plan on
going through your rotation? How many pitches you're looking to
go through today?

Speaker 4 (01:55):
Yeah, so we've got we've got nine guys slated to
throw today, eight or nine something like that, and how
we'll do it. As the first guy, our starter, Oliver
Brown out of Chicago, he's gonna go I think he's
gonna go three innings after that, you know, and it
might just be one a piece, one or two a piece,

(02:17):
just kind of depends on how guys are done in
terms of pitch counts. You know, we try and keep
them no more than about twenty five and any something
like that, because yeah, I mean it's it's the fall.
We're trying to trying to see things get get reps.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
But we also got.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
To protect our guys, so we got.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
To be smunk about that.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
And you want to stay boring too, right, That's right,
that's right, that's right now, coach, I know you getting
focused and I know even though fallball are still game time,
so we're gonna respect your time and everything like that,
appreciate your availability. One to get a little feedback on
some insight on a few players man that we can

(02:55):
be looking forward to uh in the spring, and going
to introduce us and tell us about a couple of
guys and why you chose to highlight them today.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
Yeah, for sure. I'll start with the guy starting today,
Oliver Brown. He goes by the nickname PJ. He's out
of Chicago, left handed pitcher. He's an upgrades arm man.
The stuff just moves. It's got a lot of life,
a lot of think the change up is a good pitch.

(03:25):
So he's a guy that I actually recruited Southern during
my time there, and you know, transfer portal, transfer portal era.
He was in the portal before I got the job
here at TV and so for me, like you know,
I gave him a call, it was a prior relationship already,

(03:46):
and so yeah, man, I'm happy to see him in
the Purple and gold. And he's he's been pretty good
this fall. He's been pretty good, So we're excited for
the spring. Another guy, I'll keep it on the pitching
side of things, Boat Baity bo Baty, a senior this year,
been in the program and he's a guy that he

(04:08):
throws strikes. He's kind of a steady Eddy type guy.
You know, he spends the breaking ball for a strike.
Nothing really gets to him. I've I've watched him this
fall kind of just pitch out of some jams and
not really jams that he did, Like defense doesn't make
a play here, or you know, a call doesn't go
his way there, and the guy just keeps keeps.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
Sewing it up.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
So looking for good things out of him, you know.
On the position players side of things, we've got a
freshman out of California that we're really excited about. His
name is Rylan duson catcher corner and so the kids
we had a chance to hit hit.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
At a high level.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
So really as to see how he continues to mature.
And you know Michael Burrows, the nickname or nickname the
cap on the team. He's a senior, you know, again,
one of the leaders in our program. I'm looking for
him to have a breakout year this year and his
in his senior year. So those would be some of

(05:12):
the guys definitely to keep it keeping eye on as
we continue to progress.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Okay, okay, Now there's always the one under the radar, coach,
and I know you'd like to hold your secret weapons.
Just give me one player that's under that radar that
that's going to really turn some heads.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
I'll give you.

Speaker 4 (05:34):
I'll give you two guys. One is a he's a
junior out of Kansas City. You know, I got to
show love back to the stomping Grounds. He's an outfielder.
He comes from to us from uh he's at North
Alabama for the first couple of years of his career

(05:56):
and he's one of those guys I just call him
a glue guy, you know, one of those guys that
you look up and the guy's hitting over three hundred
and but it was just it was quiet, you know
what I mean. And he makes the plays in the oftfield.
He's probably gonna play center field for us. Nothing, nothing fancy,
He's just he's one of those guys. And he's always

(06:17):
on base, you know what I mean, Just always on base,
and you look up and he's crossing the plate, and
you know, at the end of the day, that's what
it's about, you know, the pitching side of things. That's
there's a couple of guys I would say, another guy
that kind of you know, we're looking for. Uh So

(06:38):
it might not necessarily be a sleeper, but I think
his role is going to be a sleeper because we
don't know if he's gonna start or be a back
end guy. But it's Kelvin Battles junior. Okay, he's at
Arkansas Juco transfer. He's got really good stuff. And I'm
talking like swing and miss, slider, wipe out type pitch.

(07:00):
The arm strength of velocity is there. He's athletic. He's
a kid that we're just trying to figure out what's
going to be his best role. And so that's why
I would say he's got a chance to be the
sleeper he comes. You know, we look up and you're like, oh, man,
that guy's got a bunch of wins or he's got
a bunch of saves, you know. So, but you know,

(07:23):
it's it's November. They all got to.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
Do it right, right, all got to do it. It's
just built up for the spring. And I know, as
you're getting closer to a game time, coach, what's a
baseball tip of the week for our youngsters this week?

Speaker 3 (07:36):
Sir?

Speaker 4 (07:37):
Yeah, uh, baseball tips of the week? I would say
for today. It's something that I was working on with
my guys yesterday, is we got to make sure we
have a really good we call it pre pitch or
your prep step. Different people call different things and they
teach it differently, but basically, as the balls crossing the
hitting zone, excuse, we need even make sure we're in

(08:01):
a ready position. And you know, for our guys, our infillers,
I teach them, you know, the little hop we want
to land on the balls of our feet as that
ball is crossing the zone. You know, back in the day,
we used to go, you know, right left step into
your position. But it's kind of evolved more into the hop.
But whatever it is you do, you want to make

(08:22):
sure you're you're on the balls of your feet and
you're in an athletic position and not just sitting there,
you know, getting caught on your heels, because when that
ball is hit, it's all about that first step and
you're trying to go left, right in back. If you're
not in an athletic explosive position, you know you're not,

(08:42):
that could be the difference thing you making the player,
not making the place.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
So, yes, sir, yes, So we used to call that
creeping when you play with our deep and you slowly
creeping in so you've got some momentum going as you say,
left or right. Y'all just changed the technology on man.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
This game is yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Right, No, it's not boring, Coach is strategic, man, it's strategic.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
You get away with that with that boring stuff.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
I don't work, man, hey, but boring good boring wins
the games.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
Though, yes, sir, yes, sir. Well, look, coach, we appreciate everything. Man.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
You got any clothes and thoughts and comments this week,
sir as we wrap.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
Up, Yeah, no, I appreciate you having me and and
once again, uh, we played it, probably heard the VP music.
Just turn on. We play one o'clock first pitch today.
It's beautiful day. He's spots be up, you know, up
for eighties and and that's a good day to come
watch some baseball. So y'all out there listening. Ain't got
nothing to do today, Come on over, catch a few

(09:44):
innings and and we will also be playing tomorrow morning.
Be a short scrimmer. Tomorrow morning. We got a nine
thirty a first pitch tomorrow same why uh no, we'll
just be playing ourselves tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
Okay, okay, sounds good.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
Well, Coach Dan, you're dueling coach on the heel, taking
care of things, about to take on the Alvin Dolphins
and a little fall ball actually at the Region fourteen
with strong region for those who keep up with baseball
on the juw co level.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
So if some good can come out of there, some.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
New recruits and building a new pipeline, we'll appreciate your time.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
