(01:15):
Panther action ahead right here on the open Mic Broadcast Network.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
And well, welcome back to the open Mic Broadcast Network.
I am the radio guy, Doctor Mike Prince. We are
so fortunate and blessed to have join us on the
line to dame a young lady who is a trailblazer,
one of the hardest working women, not in just the swack,
but in broadcasts and period I'm going to introduce the
(01:42):
sum and present the others. None of the Miss Ty Floyd.
How are you today, Miss Floyd?
Speaker 4 (01:49):
Hey, I'm great. How about you?
Speaker 5 (01:51):
I They're not complained.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
The only complaint I'm going to have is that you're
going to be calling the game that I'm going to
definitely be put for one and I know you're going
to be making a call for other. But other than that,
I think all is well. You are the legendary, historically
designated broadcaster for the Alabama and in broad dogs. I
(02:15):
mean before we get eat until all that, I won't
you introduce yourself to our listeners today?
Speaker 6 (02:20):
Okay, hey, everybody, my name is Type Floyd. I am
a Molti media sports journalist from Orlando, Florida. Have a
couple of years in the business after I graduated from
Florida A and M University with my Bachelors of Science
and broadcast Journalism.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
Outside of those things.
Speaker 6 (02:42):
I am a woman of God. I am a woman
of the community. I love to read, write, and do
art in my spare time, and I am a very
very big fan of Maxwell Urban Hank Sweets best album.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Okay, okay, very good, very good. You know you give
us a little taste of your music style.
Speaker 5 (03:07):
Okay. Oh, now what's your favorite Maxwell song?
Speaker 4 (03:11):
So Ascension without question?
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Okay, without question, her without question? Now what is it
about a sension that that connects with you?
Speaker 6 (03:22):
I just really love all of the musical components that
Maxwell has worked into that particular song, and then of
course the lyrics.
Speaker 5 (03:34):
Uh huh yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Now, now you know, every song has a personal connect
or you're gonna share with us what that personal connect
with is through that song, or we're just gonna leave
it as.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
Is, you know. I just it brings me back to
my mama's vax syt.
Speaker 6 (03:50):
It brings me back to my mom's Vaxy early two
thousands in the back of her little Mercedes. So I
think that's definitely the personal connection for me when it
comes to not just Max So, but all the neo
soul artists.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Yes, Neil Soul has definitely got his place, and even
the old guy liked me appreciate some good Neo sol.
Speaker 5 (04:13):
But you know what I really like. I like that
lo fi tech like music, that.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
That kind of scratchy old album cover feel.
Speaker 5 (04:25):
I really get into that, man, I really do. You know,
it's kind of real.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Yeah, there you go, there you go. Well, so well,
maybe I'm not as old folk as folks call me
or think I am.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
Huh nah not.
Speaker 5 (04:40):
A okay, well little tie.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
In July twenty twenty five, it was made official that
you would become the voice of the Bulldogs. Now, to
no surprise, a lot of people don't understand this. In
this business, you gotta really love.
Speaker 5 (04:58):
What you're doing.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
You got to grind at what you're doing, and then
let's not be you know, oblivious to the fact that
address the elephant in the room, there's.
Speaker 5 (05:08):
Been a male dominated area.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
If you would first, how and when did you get
on on this on your radar and this is what
you want to do. As far as being a play
by play of broadcaster.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
I would say representation really matters.
Speaker 6 (05:27):
And I was so fortunate to very early on meet
Tiffany Green, who was working for bright House Sports when
I was in high school kind of trying to figure
out what I wanted to do in terms of medicine
or in terms of going into broadcasting journalism when I
(05:47):
was going to attend college, and based off of our
interactions and just me following her throughout the years and
are of course personal connection definitely pushed me into.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
The realm of play by play.
Speaker 6 (06:03):
Then I met another very strong woman in leadership named
Jackie mclliams Parker, who is the CIAA commissioner, and my
relationship with her has brought me a ton of different
opportunities in the basketball realm. I was put into the
play by play and color position for the CIBA basketball tournament,
(06:23):
which is a huge deal if you've ever heard of
or attended the CIAA basketball tournament.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
I was working alongside.
Speaker 6 (06:30):
Yes, So I was working alongside Treka Foster Bradsney.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
She really empowered me to make me believe that I
could do it.
Speaker 6 (06:36):
And then as the week went on, I transitioned back
into doing sideline and I was like longing to be
back in the play by play spot And so I
had a real kind of conversation with myself, my family
Tiffany on how I could get to where I wanted
to be and when I got hired here at Alabama
(06:57):
A and M, I was very intentional about talking to
doctor Paul Bryant about my goals where I saw myself
and what I wanted this chapter of my life in
Huntsville to me.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
And basically I was given this great opportunity and that's
how I got into it.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Well, very good and I know it's exciting times for
you and your family fam, you and Alabama, A and M.
Now I got to ask you this question. Are you
related in a in a social bond to Miss Tiffany Green?
I know she's a person particular sorority. Are you sorority
(07:36):
sisters with Miss Green?
Speaker 4 (07:38):
Now? I'm not.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Okay, okay, just asking this this checking Did you did
you bless any organization or you decide to stay solo?
Speaker 6 (07:50):
I would say it's a it's a for now.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
Type of thing.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
AH got you now solo for now? That means something's
in the work. I got you, I got you. I
can read between those lines. I can definitely now when
you when you get.
Speaker 5 (08:06):
To the business part of this thing. Uh.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
And I'm imagining because it's still, you know, hard to
believe that you got some people that just a judge
a book by the cover. Have you had any let's say,
strange encounters since people say, oh, you'rely voice, have you
had any of that or has it been open arms
wherever you've gone.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
I let's say for.
Speaker 6 (08:30):
The most part, it's been open arms. I think that
when you're in just the career field of sports.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Initially there were.
Speaker 6 (08:39):
Some people who had said some crazy, insane, outland things
that had come across a lot of men who felt
like they had to I guess over explained like man's
plane is what people would say, dank And I thought
it was funny because why are we in the middle
(08:59):
of the legally talking about this right now? Why are
we and Kroger talking about this? Like I understand, but
why are we here talking about that?
Speaker 4 (09:08):
So that is just kind of along the line some
of the.
Speaker 6 (09:10):
Things that I had to deal with initially early on.
Speaker 4 (09:13):
And I mean I was I was aware. I wasn't
like a naive about it. I knew that.
Speaker 6 (09:19):
Something, you know, something's along those lines was going to happen.
But honestly, when it comes to embracing the journey, I
embraced all parts. And I know that I'm not exempt
from anything, but yeah, I've definitely dealt with a quite
a few things along those lines for sure.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Right well, one thing about it, whether you're female, Black,
if you're in the minority, you're in the minority. And
if you have to stay on the ground work twice
as hard put in, this is twice as much time.
Just to be serface, I'll never forget I'd done an
interview with a commissioner or a commissioner uh in Southland
(10:00):
I believe it was, and people that responded through social
media it was like, great job, And I'm like, I've
been doing this for quite some time now, and this is.
Speaker 5 (10:12):
What I do.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
Don't be surprised because AI can articulate, and I know
what type of questions to ask and exactly every now
and then, I do know what I'm talking about. You
might not agree with what I'm talking about, but I
do know what I'm talking about. So I can imagine
that sometimes you just have to say, shake that dust
off and let the haters hate while God continues to elevate,
(10:35):
you know, so that there's nothing wrong with that at all. Now,
when you look at this, you got some people that
are listening right now, whether they're female or just young
in the game, what advice would you give them about
the broadcast and business that they don't see. But it's
(10:55):
just as important as being in front of the mic,
being in front of the camera that must be paid
very detailed attention to.
Speaker 6 (11:05):
Preparation is key. And that's a very cliche thing to say.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
But it's so so true. It's cliche for a reason.
Speaker 6 (11:14):
I like to over prepare.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
And it's funny because.
Speaker 6 (11:19):
Before I even embarked on this season, I had a
great conversation with Best Moments over the phone and we
were talking about just like in terms of preparation, what
we do, and she said something along the lines of
I'd rather have way too much info than not have enough,
And I agree with her on that statement.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
When I open my portfolio.
Speaker 6 (11:40):
I have all these different papers, I have my spotting cards,
which actually I'm about to do right now is go
write down a whole bunch of different notes and try
to really figure out things to supplement the broadcast. So
always preparing yourself.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
There's always so much room to learn.
Speaker 6 (11:58):
I like to watch different broadcasts, specifically like to listen
to Tiffany and Best to really just kind of gauge
like where what they're talking about. I like to watch
a lot of meata comes because of her in depth
knowledge on Jered Kramer. So preparation is is a huge,
huge thing.
Speaker 4 (12:15):
And then I would also say, like just to develop
sick skin.
Speaker 6 (12:19):
You're going to be in this industry and in this
realm and kind of get a lot of I guess
opinions is a nice.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
Way to put it.
Speaker 6 (12:29):
How people think you sound, how people think you are,
and you have to develop thick skin. And I'm a
very person. I'm a person that's very big on faith.
So just knowing that, like God doesn't call the qualified,
he qualifies the calls.
Speaker 5 (12:44):
So there you go.
Speaker 6 (12:45):
If I'm doing this, and that's because I'm meant to
be here. And I've had some, you know, different instances
throughout the season that has made me feel like, well, gosh,
is this really where I'm supposed to be at or
what I'm supposed to be doing. But I've been reassured
multiple times by my family and.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
My friends and even got himself that yes, this is
where you're.
Speaker 5 (13:05):
Supposed to be. So there you go. There you go.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
Look, let me look from from one old broadcast into
a young, up and coming broadcast. I'll share this little
analogy with you as I'd like to tell them I'll
give you this one for freedom.
Speaker 5 (13:20):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
There is the term Q tip, and I'm pretty sure
you know what a Q tip is, correct, m Okay,
And you've used the Q tip once or twice in life,
and every now and then you'll see some stuff come
on that Q tip that will make you go, oh
my goodness, you know.
Speaker 5 (13:40):
But when you've done what.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
You need to do with that Q tip, you discarded
and you never go back to the to the trash
can to dig it out right, because it's served as purpose.
Speaker 5 (13:51):
Well.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
Q tip is spelled qt I T right, and that
really stands for quit taking it personal. Sometimes people will
say stuff, do stuff and just be in the way,
and we can't take it personal. You just chalk it
up so they don't know no better and you're moving
on to higher grounds, so you lead them where they
(14:12):
stay and you treat it as a que tip and
don't take it personal and move to the next journey.
That's it My gifts from me to you on that one. Now,
we got this game coming up this weekend.
Speaker 7 (14:28):
And my Panthers they kind of had a little tight situation,
you know, dealing with your Alabama sister school, Alabama State.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
What do you see as far as you following and
keeping up with the with the Bulldogs.
Speaker 5 (14:50):
Of some key matchups for this weekend.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
Since you got those notes, and another thing about notes,
of the notes that you gathered should probably never be used.
Speaker 5 (14:59):
That's how what you should prepare for. But going in
with your note to what you get well.
Speaker 6 (15:04):
I think in terms of Alabama A and M, we
are a team that has been plagued by so many
injuries throughout the course of this season that have heavily
affected our production, especially on the offensive side. So just
going down the list, when we're starting in the trenches,
our guard Ramier Lewis has been just kind of in
(15:27):
and out due to an injury that he sustained early
on in the season. We have a lot of youth
on our offensive line and that's a great thing, but
also in terms of like experience when it comes to
playing the game that can be a little tough. Youth
also is in our quarterback room. Cornelius Brown, he's out
(15:50):
for the duration of the season and so stepping up
in his place is Eric Henley Junior.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Will EJ.
Speaker 6 (15:57):
Hanley suffered a injury in the Magic City Classic that
basically took him out last week, so JD.
Speaker 4 (16:06):
Davis the second was the starter.
Speaker 6 (16:08):
Both of those are red shirt freshmen, and so those
guys have had to really pick up the pieces of
this offense and work and how they can being so young.
Speaker 4 (16:18):
Eric Hanley is.
Speaker 6 (16:19):
Back in the starting position for this week, but I mean,
you have to imagine against Prairieview's defense that it is
going to be a challenge. And then over as we
continue to go through offense. Our tight end was injured
Trey Abner. He's making his return this week, so that's
(16:41):
a positive thing. But our running back room was injured
with Caden Dixon, who was actually really really big on
special teams. He's going to be out for the remainder
of this season. And then Maurice Edwards before I don't
have I guess the confirmation on if he'll be playing
or not this week, but based on me attending your
(17:02):
practice on Monday, it looks like he won't be returning
and so going to be some heavy utilization I guess
in the passing game with targets like Frank Pierre, Jordan
Chambersmith who's a true freshman, Machai Maddix who is also
a true freshman as well, as Miles Parker, who's a returner,
(17:24):
and then just looking at the prairie view side a
tremending scoring defense first in the slacks.
Speaker 4 (17:33):
So it's going to be it's going to be a
I guess it's going to be a dogfight, a.
Speaker 5 (17:42):
Dog fight literally for the Bulldogs.
Speaker 4 (17:43):
So absolutely.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
No, football is the main caveat. But are there any
other sports that you've covered and you'll be broadcasting for
A and L not.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
For A and M specifically.
Speaker 6 (18:00):
Definitely we'll hear my voice around the HC, HBCU landscape,
which I'm very, very.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
Excited about, so just stay tuned for that.
Speaker 6 (18:10):
I would love to get involved with Alabama and M baseball.
I love coach Lou Whitlow and everything that he is
doing for the program. I'm also a huge baseball fan
because my whole like my older brother played baseball, so
I was always out a different fields, going to Cooperstown,
going to Nebraska, and my childhood best friend, her dad
(18:32):
played for the Cincinnati Reds, and so I was always
around baseball. So hopefully that's where you'll hear my voice
next for the Alabama.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Well, I tell you what here and that got me truly,
truly excited because I am a baseball guy.
Speaker 5 (18:48):
Do you hear me?
Speaker 4 (18:48):
There is?
Speaker 3 (18:50):
Yes, I was All Conference baseball player at Prairie View
back in my heyday. And we're working feverishly right now
to try to bring some more surface awareness on baseball
and softball in particular, in particular for the conference. So
maybe we can talk after this and do some collaboration
on some baseball content creation. I look forward to that
(19:12):
if you would allow an old man to hang around.
Speaker 6 (19:15):
Yes, And you gotta stop calling yourself your young at heart.
Speaker 5 (19:19):
I'm young at heart, yes, ma'am.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
But my my, I'm celebrating my thirty fifth anniversary this Sunday.
Speaker 5 (19:27):
My wife and I have been married for thirty five years.
So then let you know, yes, ma'am, Yes, ma'a.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
You trying to get like a well honey, a lot
of patience, a lot of God, a whole bunch of love,
and it'll make it.
Speaker 5 (19:43):
You'll be there sooner or later. Well time.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
Look, I am so excited. You got to promise that, Hey,
you won't be a stranger with us here at the network.
We'll get a chance to, you know, talk a little
bit more. Want to wish your successful broadcast and actually,
for those that are listening right now, we're going to
be simulcasting and so Ty is going to be helping
us with the with the call this weekend between the
(20:09):
Bulldogs and the Panthers on the Open Mic Broadcast Network
of course at obnradio dot com. Click on their listen
live button and you hear her, not me, but you
hear her talking about hopefully she don't want to hear
this part, but a PV victory.
Speaker 5 (20:27):
Over the over the weekend.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
And with all that time, I want to give you
some closing thoughts and comments, and the floor is now yours, ma'am.
Speaker 6 (20:35):
I just want to say thank you so much for
having me on your platform, and thank you so much
for this conversation, your words of advice and encouragement. It
means so much more to me than you'll ever know.
This is definitely a role that I want to be in,
that I want to continue to grow in, and that
I want to continue to inspire in pressures of privilege.
Speaker 4 (20:59):
And I'm just grateful that it's me that's in this position.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
So thank you so much, hey man, thank you for
being a part of nothing but a bright future and uh,
with God on your side, nothing but success. I have
another little cliche, I say, I might not be the best,
but when I do my best, God's pleased.
Speaker 5 (21:21):
And with that, we want to.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
Thank you so much for being a part of us
here at the open Mic Broadcast Network.
Speaker 5 (21:26):
She is Miss Ty Floyd, the voice of the.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
Alabama and in Bulldogs, I am the radio guy, Doctor
Mike Prince.
Speaker 5 (21:34):
Don't forget. You can follow me on x.

we'll see
Speaker 5 (22:00):
You on the other side.
