Well, I don't know about a C. I thought it
was gonna be a good game, was competitive. I just
thought Pine Luff might have been able to pull it out.

a lot of people thought that, uh, this is gonna
be upset weekend. Jackson State went down in Mississippi Valley
and they won that game forty two, uh to three.
I'm gonna give Jackson State in A plus Mississippi Valley.
I'll never fail them. They'll get a C minus.

People thought it might be a trap game.

that that wasn't remotely happened. I'm rolling a plus for
Jackson State because of the dominance on the road.

Corn State and Southern. Oh my goodness. All Corn State
won that game thirty five to seventeen. I'm gonna give

But just because the whole season, really, man, it's just
really been awful, awful, and I don't know what and
how they're going to correct that thing because everybody's so
impatient these days. And we'll talk about that. It's gonna

For real, right right? All right? Next up Alabama State
in Texas Southern. Alabama State won that game, boarded two
to twenty four. Alabama State blessed their muscles again and
they'll get an a pluff.

Alabama State with a plus. The they did the Texas
two step and own Texas right now, so they're the
they're the temporary governor of Texas until we could resurrect
that thing next season.

I'm I'm a little disappointed in I didn't think they
were going to win this past week, but I was
looking for a better performance, you know, for them to

that I've seen out of my Bulldogs at home in years.

not there to witness that uh because I always be

of my mind because I unfortunately I was attendant the
funeral one of my former players, so that I always

not witness personally witness that. I went back and watched
the game. But for me to just witness the game
that that's the that's the worst drubbing that I've seen. Well,
Lewis crew sad when we we we we, I'm gonna

two season regular season games that remain, uh, this is
going to be the last time that the Panthers more

out there to Atlanta? So if you would think it

The first one, we got to go back and visit
the buffoon Grambling situation definitely a scar on everyone connected.
And then if you allow me even put it this way,
beyond just the conference, just on on us as a people.

And I don't want to make this a political uh
peace or anything like that, but when you see an
experience something like that as a coach, as a former coach,
you're gonna have guys that get chippy and and stuff
like that happens, and you know that.

But as a coach, how do you handle that internally
with those that remain and the ones that were involved.

Well, I think the biggest thing now is, because it's
already taking place, you gotta use it as a teaching moment. Fellas,
we cannot have things like this to happen because let's
look at what is gonna cost us we you know,
I'm speaking of Grammling that and Bathune Cookmen, they're both
in a position where they can have some out in

outstanding season, right, But because of your lack of discipline,
we would not be at full strength. So we're not
the team that we know we can be for these
for this next game and in some cases, on Grammling's case,
for the next couple of games. So not being at
(21:51):
full strength means that we're not putting our best product
on the floor on the field. I'm sorry. So you
gotta use it as a teacher mode because it's already happened.
But I'm gonna take it a step further. Where else
in college football do both teams come out of the
same tunnel?

Where else in college football do both teams share the
same entrant? And nowhere? Nowhere. That's that's an issue. That's
a problem that I think Grammar should correct. It's gonna
cost them some money, but so be it. They designed

the stadium that way both teams will not be.

But if you're gonna do that, I ain't mean to
cut you off.

You still have a timing mechanism where one can come
in then the other one can come in to you know,
at least reduce some of the potential friction. And we're
talking about design of a stadium that was just been
that way for a long time. So it's not anything
new that could potentially happen though, Right.

Okay, but here's the thing. You say, you have a
time and mechanism, but it's obvious that mechanism.

Is not working or did not work, because you know.

When you hear some of the comments. You know, I
even heard from from coach Joseph that Patron was taken
too long. Uh, you know, because of the clock situation. Uh.
They allowed their players to go ahead before all of
the doing Cookman's players uh uh moved onto the field.

And then he tried to say that, well, why did
the coaches, Why did the coaches lead the players back
there by themselves? You know. So, so if something needs
to be okay, if if if that's your only exit,
then whatever time it takes for one team to get through,
that visiting team to go through, then so be. But

something's got to be put in place so that that
doesn't happen again. And Grambling when when you look at
when you look at the schedule, now, Grambling for the
next two games is gonna lose some of that some
of their personnel. And that means that for their big
game of the year against Southern and the BYO Classic,

you gonna have.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
One just gonna miss the buy You Classic, yep, yep.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
And that could have a financial impact on the game,
even though that's a pride game. And I don't really
care if it's the fifteenth string players showing up just
the pride for the state alone. If you would the
D one FCS State championship, it's still gonna have some

good traction, but it's not gonna be the best product available.

Correct, correct, correct, And then with the Dome, Uh, you
know you're losing some of your players going into Jackson.
You already man is going into Jackson and you know yep.
And so so it's just tough. It's just tough, tough situation.

So we need to look at uh how do you
correct that? Right? Right? Right?

Look, look of all the times where it could have
been a buffering situation, it didn't buffer in.

talked about coaches packagings and when we look at the
big boys circuit on how these coaches they fired yet
another one, uh well the Giants, that's the one fired
their coach. But somebody got fired in college this past weekend.

Yeah yeah, but but I said all that to say
this coach uh and then was Art Brown just got
signed to this big old extension because they were whispering
about him possibly going to Penn State or whatnot.

The reality as far as how the fact affects us FCS,
HBC used and even the logical big boy approach. Instead
of blocking in somebody for a seven ten year deal
with all this guaranteed money, why not give them just
a three year big bang contract, you know, instead of

trying to pay all that back in and if it don't.

Because right now you finding guys a sevent ten year deals,
not for two years.

Well see we well, we on our level, we definitely
can't do that. Oh no, no, no, learn to because
we we we can't afford the money. But I think
this year is coaching cycle because of these big biles,
I think you're gonna see a change in the landscape. Now.

I don't think you're gonna see these.

Big These big bios are not gonna come because I
think it's brought too much attention to the amount of
money that we're spending on athletics. You know, you playing
have got fifty fifty million dollars to sit at home.
Come on, man, with this economity way, it is now
right that that it just doesn't look right. And that's
that's a bad look for college athletics. That's a bad

look for UH power five power for football. And so
I think with this coaching cycle, because of what has
happened during this coaching cycle, I think we're gonna see
a difference.

Okay, now when it dominates down to us. And I
know we've had this discussion. I can't remember it was

situation where they can't get their own players. And that
means that you bringing in high school kids that help

build your program, and you want to see those kids
go from a freshman to a senior. So that's a
four year cycle. The nc TOY is even looking at
They even see that the kids need more than four years.
They even considering making eligibility five years. That's on the
table right now. So I think that you give a

coach at least at least a recruiting cycle, and that's
four years at the middle. See, I think when you
bring a coach in, they bring in get an opportunity
to bring in their own players. By that second year. Well,
you can see progress in the first year, but that

by the second year, you can see the direction of
the program. By the third year, Uh, you should be
in contention. By the fourth year, you should be at
a championship level. That's the way I see it.

experience something like that as a coach, as a former coach,
you're gonna have guys that get chippy and and stuff
like that happens, and you know that.

But as a coach, how do you handle that internally
with those that remain and the ones that were involved.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Well, I think the biggest thing now is, because it's
already taking place, you gotta use it as a teaching moment. Fellas,
we cannot have things like this to happen because let's
look at what is gonna cost us we you know,
I'm speaking of Grammling that and Bathune Cookmen, they're both
in a position where they can have some out in

outstanding season, right, But because of your lack of discipline,
we would not be at full strength. So we're not
the team that we know we can be for these
for this next game and in some cases, on Grammling's case,
for the next couple of games. So not being at
(21:51):
full strength means that we're not putting our best product
on the floor on the field. I'm sorry. So you
gotta use it as a teacher mode because it's already happened.
But I'm gonna take it a step further. Where else
in college football do both teams come out of the
same tunnel?
Speaker 3 (22:12):

Speaker 2 (22:13):
Where else in college football do both teams share the
same entrant? And nowhere? Nowhere. That's that's an issue. That's
a problem that I think Grammar should correct. It's gonna
cost them some money, but so be it. They designed

the stadium that way both teams will not be.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
But if you're gonna do that, I ain't mean to
cut you off.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
You still have a timing mechanism where one can come
in then the other one can come in to you know,
at least reduce some of the potential friction. And we're
talking about design of a stadium that was just been
that way for a long time. So it's not anything
new that could potentially happen though, Right.

Okay, but here's the thing. You say, you have a
time and mechanism, but it's obvious that mechanism.

Is not working or did not work, because you know.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
When you hear some of the comments. You know, I
even heard from from coach Joseph that Patron was taken
too long. Uh, you know, because of the clock situation. Uh.
They allowed their players to go ahead before all of
the doing Cookman's players uh uh moved onto the field.

And then he tried to say that, well, why did
the coaches, Why did the coaches lead the players back
there by themselves? You know. So, so if something needs
to be okay, if if if that's your only exit,
then whatever time it takes for one team to get through,
that visiting team to go through, then so be. But
(24:00):
something's got to be put in place so that that
doesn't happen again. And Grambling when when you look at
when you look at the schedule, now, Grambling for the
next two games is gonna lose some of that some
of their personnel. And that means that for their big
game of the year against Southern and the BYO Classic,
(24:21):
you gonna have.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
One just gonna miss the buy You Classic, yep, yep.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
And that could have a financial impact on the game,
even though that's a pride game. And I don't really
care if it's the fifteenth string players showing up just
the pride for the state alone. If you would the
D one FCS State championship, it's still gonna have some

good traction, but it's not gonna be the best product available.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
Correct, correct, correct, And then with the Dome, Uh, you
know you're losing some of your players going into Jackson.
You already man is going into Jackson and you know yep.
And so so it's just tough. It's just tough, tough situation.
I hated, but but we it should not happen again.

So we need to look at uh how do you
correct that? Right? Right? Right?

Look, look of all the times where it could have
been a buffering situation, it didn't buffer in.

talked about coaches packagings and when we look at the
big boys circuit on how these coaches they fired yet
another one, uh well the Giants, that's the one fired
their coach. But somebody got fired in college this past weekend.

Yeah yeah, but but I said all that to say
this coach uh and then was Art Brown just got
signed to this big old extension because they were whispering
about him possibly going to Penn State or whatnot.

The reality as far as how the fact affects us FCS,
HBC used and even the logical big boy approach. Instead
of blocking in somebody for a seven ten year deal
with all this guaranteed money, why not give them just
a three year big bang contract, you know, instead of

trying to pay all that back in and if it don't.

Work, you move on.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
Because right now you finding guys a sevent ten year deals,
not for two years.

You're getting rid of him, right right right?

Well see we well, we on our level, we definitely
can't do that. Oh no, no, no, learn to because
we we we can't afford the money. But I think
this year is coaching cycle because of these big biles,
I think you're gonna see a change in the landscape. Now.

I don't think you're gonna see these.

Big These big bios are not gonna come because I
think it's brought too much attention to the amount of
money that we're spending on athletics. You know, you playing
have got fifty fifty million dollars to sit at home.
Come on, man, with this economity way, it is now
right that that it just doesn't look right. And that's
that's a bad look for college athletics. That's a bad

look for UH power five power for football. And so
I think with this coaching cycle, because of what has
happened during this coaching cycle, I think we're gonna see
a difference.

Okay, now when it dominates down to us. And I
know we've had this discussion. I can't remember it was
on air, off the air with the m fact that
the nil transfer report, even though it's on a very
small percentage.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
On our level, how not how.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
What would be the most feasible economically win win situation
for the institution and the coach to coach let's say
basketball and.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
Football level on our level, what would be a fair
turn and price in your opinion, sir, from your analysis.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
Well, on the I could talk about the terms, but price,
I'll never put a price on somebody else's talkabook. But
in terms of the terms, I think you have to
give a coach a recruiting you I mean a recruiting class. Rather.
I don't think any coach should be put in a
situation where they can't get their own players. And that
means that you bringing in high school kids that help

build your program, and you want to see those kids
go from a freshman to a senior. So that's a
four year cycle. The nc TOY is even looking at
They even see that the kids need more than four years.
They even considering making eligibility five years. That's on the
table right now. So I think that you give a
(29:22):
coach at least at least a recruiting cycle, and that's
four years at the middle. See, I think when you
bring a coach in, they bring in get an opportunity
to bring in their own players. By that second year. Well,
you can see progress in the first year, but that
(29:43):
by the second year, you can see the direction of
the program. By the third year, Uh, you should be
in contention. By the fourth year, you should be at
a championship level. That's the way I see it.

But that's a four door at least sniffing the door.

Right, that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
Yes, yes, okay, okay, and then now.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
And then if you're doing it that way, there's no
there's no figures, there's no big file.

Now, we look at the Southern situation, because that's about
the closest thing on our level, in our in our
conference that's doing this there showing the quote unquote impatience.

Okay, they hadn't been a coach they.

Went over past two years, haven't uh since it was
Boston Oldham, since it's been gone.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
That's correct, And newly is down grade. So why and
and and in grades case, I don't understand it. You
would you played for a championship last year. You don't
even get your second You don't even get a full
second year, even though the wheels were coming off. And
when you look at it, it was injuries. Look look

look at how many kids are hurt at southern and
then at the most critical position, your top two quarterbacks
hurt right injured when they can't play. So why why
are we so impatient of being a Jaguars?

Well, I think it's it's it's it's a it's a
catch twenty two coach, because it's a copycat world. We
always say, copycat leader, it's a copycat world. Right, Well,
if they're doing it, let us do it. Well, why
can't we have what they have? And I and I
get I get that, But to it, there are degrees

of separation, separations for a reason.

Right when when you have what you have, you got
