With all that being said, let us jump right into
today's episode. Well, the Southern Jaguars made it official, introducing
(00:33):
mister Marshall Falk. There's their twenty second head football coach
for Jagnation. And man did they roll out the red carpet.
They had uh a uh uh Anelius Williams uh Avery
Johnson and all the heavy hitters and and welcome home
(00:56):
to the quote unquote good Son. He's New Orleans. Of course,
mister Falk did not attend Southern University, went to San
Diego State. In fact, there were some people speaking on
social media that fought turned down opportunity to play in
Southern when he was recruited and ended up going to
(01:18):
San Diego State.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
But that's neither here nor there. Had a very.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Productive NFL career playing with the Saint Louis Rams Indianapolis
coach legendary, absolutely legendary. Of course, as we mentioned, hall
of fame and everything. Now, I listened to this press
conference very intently, purposely, and I challenge anyone that's listening
(01:50):
to this report right now that you go back and
do the same. And this is where I get a
little heat sometime. I am a fan, I am a supporter,
but when I do these reports, when I do these stories,
these interviews, I can't stay in that mold because it's
(02:13):
easy to get up there and wave your pomp poms
for whatever school you cheer for, and you can see
no wrong, see no doubt, no gray areas. And that's science.
To each his own and everybody. Everyone has their flavor
and how they like to operate. But I love the
fact that sports is just as natural, at least to me,
(02:37):
as breathing. It is what it is. You get what
you get, you have what you have, You capitalize and
maximize whatever opportunities that come your way. And I'm saying
all that to say this. Listening to this press conference,
it is obvious that Marshall Fault wants to be at Southern,
(03:05):
but it was also obvious that you were going to
have to pay what is considered a premium on the
FCS tier to get them there. And once again, I'm
basing this on what I heard in the press conference,
and I challenge you guys, it's on YouTube somewhere. Oudn't
(03:25):
exactly the deal, but I had it sent to me
and I was able to actually listen to.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
It live, and.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
What I heard when I heard number one he say, hey,
this should happened five years ago. This should happened five
years ago. This is, you know, directly an indirect quote.
Roman Banks, the athletic director, may mention of that in
discussion with Marshall Falk, that hey, this should have happened
(03:56):
five years ago. So we know that this was something
that at least kicked the tires on in the past.
Another thing that we heard is that there was a
private jet flown to Colorado to start the courting process
of Marshall Falk, who was the running back coach at
(04:20):
Colorado with Deon Sanders, and there were some key players
that showed up on this jet and dropped the reference line.
And it's all getting in the report in the press
on this video. I'm not making it up. Just go back,
I said, go back and check it out yourself. He said,
(04:43):
We're not as poor as you think we are, or
as you thought we were. I found that to be
very very interesting, very interesting, And I'm seeing a potential trend,
a potential tree. Not a major trend as of yet,
(05:03):
but a potential trend. We've always stated how there is
pride in the HBCU family. I don't care where you
are yet, Prairie View, Southern Delaware State, Morgan State, wherever
you are. There is a pride when it comes to
(05:25):
our institutions, and deservedly so. There is a pride in
our athletic fields, and once again deservedly so.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
But to what.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Point do we step outside the boundaries. Yes, it is
not the same operation of five years ago, ten years ago,
and heaven would be it twenty years ago. The dynamics
have changed. But as the dynamics have changed, the constant
(05:58):
has remained. Regardless of what era you're in, It's going
to cost money, and it's going to cost a significant
amount of money. Where does this money come from? We
know that institutions, state institutions or limited to whatever budgets
(06:25):
that they have, which opens up this ugly pandoras Box
of private equity creeping in now. The Big twelve has
been on record for flirting with this entrancy, and even
the Big ten right now is taking it. And once
you open up this Pandora's box of private equity coming in,
(06:53):
it's the point of no return. You are literally dancing
with the devil. And that is what I'm hearing. That
is what is becoming trending. We know what they're doing
on the power force that's beyond our control. But here
(07:14):
in the world of FCS and I'm not just going
to limit it to HBCU, but in the world of
FCS now the numbers have not quite been released, but
they are floating numbers of the salary for mister Fogg
(07:35):
between four hundred and six hundred thousand dollars annually, not
for his staff, that's for him. And yes, if you
got it, Flawned, the trend has changed.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Times have changed.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
But those who are trying to keep up with a
trend that is ever changing.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
When will the magnet stop? What is going to be
the breaking point?
Speaker 1 (08:10):
It's about facilities, it's about atmosphere, it's about analysts and
coaching staff. But it all comes with a financial commitment.
It all comes with nowadays guarantees. And I'm wondering, I'm wondering,
(08:34):
with all the excitement that's on the bluff right now,
is this the beginning of the sacrificial lambs that will
soon trickle to the world of FCS. For the most part,
FCS has always done it right. When you look at
(08:56):
the playoff structure, when you look at how the teams
for the most part have their parody, they've done it right.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
But now.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
Let's get the next dion factor. Let's get the great
NFL impact factor is becoming the upward trend in the
world and how becomes an exclusive here of HBCU Sports.
As excited as I am about this move, I'm also
(09:31):
concerned what and when or even how will this trend
continue to go. It's got a plateau somewhere. It's got
to work its way out sooner hopefully than later. You
(09:53):
look at the trends coming on right now. The Swack
is almost becoming, almost becoming the who two of NFL formers.
We always had an NFL impact, you know, Deon Sanders
was not the first quote unquote NFL person to come
and bless the Swack you know, we've had that impact
(10:17):
for years, but of late it seems that we want
to make it a point or a stress and emphasis on.
We're getting this NFL guy, can you top that? And
I hope it's not to the point of eroding the
(10:39):
very essence of what college athletics it's all about. And
we know that college athletics will never ever be the
same once upon a time and what it was. This
is where we are right now, this is what we have.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Can we.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Or wheel we be able to maintain this. We're going
to keep our fingers on the pulse of all of
this that's going on. Congratulations again to the Southern Jags
and their higher but I do challenge you to go
back and listen with intent purpose of that press conference.
There was a whole lodge said that wasn't actually said.
(11:25):
And I might, as we get toward the end of
the college football season, come back and visit with this
and dissect it just.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
A little bit more.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
And I know, man, why you worried about Southern, Why
you worried about worry about Prairieview, And I worry about
us all because what affects Southern affects Prairie View.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
And I e. What affects Prayer Review.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
Affects Southern What affects Prayerview, and Southern affects Mississippi Valley,
it affects us all because we are to the Southwestern
Athletic Conference. Good for the gander, it's good for the goose.

spent I am the radio guy, Doctor Mike Prince.
