Speaker 1 (00:02):
And welcome back to the Open Mic Broadcast Network. I'm
the radio guy, doctor Mike Prince. You know this is
our mission to try to bring you some news that
you could use today. There's no exception to the rule.
This Championship Week, Prairie View will be traveling to Jackson,
Mississippi to take on defending champions js H Tigers. And

(00:22):
I am fortunate enough to have this young man since
he was an edy batty baby boy joined us today.
Who's the voice of the js you Tigers, mister Rob
j How you doing today, Brother Rob?

Speaker 2 (00:38):
I'm doing pretty good.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
That miss frent Well, you know you know I love
those who are not familiar.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Can I get it before we get started? Jay? You
know you what do you say we use with a
little bitty.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
What edy bitty baby?

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Sir, Well, look, first of all, man, I am so
fortunate and thankful to have you to join in with us.
You hard got to catch up with but you're ready
for this championship game.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
You're gonna be hosting and making the play call.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Just call to get a little U, as I say,
cross reference for this week's game coverage.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
And what are you seeing coming into this game? Sir?

Speaker 3 (01:20):
I think it's gonna be a good game. I think
it's gonna be a tight game. I really have not
seen Prairieview this year because Jackson they didn't play Prairieview
this year. But I am convinced that they are a
really really good team. I mean, and they're building momentum
every week, like this last game when they scored over
fifty points unbost sixty?

Speaker 2 (01:40):
Was that against Valley? I think?

Speaker 3 (01:42):
But yes, sir, yeah, man, I mean they are good teams,
got a good coach. But Jacksonde has a good team too,
And I think Jakobe and Morgan may be back.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
For this game.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
I talked with him last night at an event that
he was honored and he said he will play.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
It's gonna be interesting to see what happens this weekend.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Well that's gonna be interesting because there would be a
little rust coming into that game. But Daniel Drenaline, I guess,
can get past some of that rush, and he is
a big difference making for you guys.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Yeah, I think he is. I know.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
The good problem to have for jack to say that
is the backup quarterback Lockhart, who's played well. But I
think Jacobean is the most experienced player. He's a really
good guy. I mean good, has great talent, he's accurate,
and he is the leader of that team. And like
you said, he may be rusty coming back. He missed
three three games. I think Grill three and a half games.

(02:37):
But Jess who has a really.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Good backup quarterback. But I think Jacobean is the better
of the two.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
Okay, Now, with everything that's on the table a lot,
and I've been saying this for a long long time,
one of the most underrated leaders, in.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
My opinion is coach TC Taylor.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Can you give us a little insight, man on just
who TC Taylor is and how he operates.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Yeah, he's the players love him, man. He's a players coach.
Before he became head coach, he was the offensive coordinator
under under Deon Sanders and uh, like I said, man,
he played at Jackson State. He loves Jackson, he loves Mississippi,
he loves JSU. So that made him an instant fan favorite.

(03:24):
He's a players coach, he's a he's a humble guy,
and he wants to win. Like I said, he was
when he got to j s U. He was a
quarterback and then they switched him to wide receiver. He
broke a lot of records, and uh.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
He stayed.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Well, you know, he went he wanted to coach in
other places, but he came back to Jackson and coached,
and uh, he's doing a great job.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
He's doing a really really good job.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
He did something that Deon Sanders wasn't able to do.
He want a championship, yes, sir, yeah, yes, sir.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Well, you know, here's a lot of things that that
I say from this end, but you know when they
hear me talk about it, they be like, man, what
do you know?

Speaker 2 (04:00):
You in Prairie View, But you can help verify this.
He was actually the.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
Next in line when Hendrix was replaced and then Dion
became available.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Then it was almost like a no brainer.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
But to me, he was the back door genius for
Dions Chingion there while at Jackson State.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Oh, you hit that right on the head. He absolutely was.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Like I said, he was the offensive coordinator, He called
the plays, he knew the players. He along with coach
Otis Ridley, those two stayed on the staff when coach
Hendricks was dismissed, and those two really were the coaches
that kept the boat or bloat if you will for
Jackson State TC and Big Old Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Absolutely, you hit that on.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Whoever told you that you didn't know what you were
talking about?

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Well, I really think Sir Fields with the checkers on
the way too. Okay, oh well, these days I can
get it to you electronic. Just give me your cash
hat of information, now get it over there to you
right away.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
We're talking with Rob Ja right now, the voice of
the JSU Tigers. You've been doing this for a long time. Rob.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
I love your crew of brother Brown and Coach Ashbury.
You guys have a lot of fun in your broadcast.
And we'll come to this point now to where everybody
is so video centric and I know video is the thing,
but there's still a lot of value at least in
my opinion for radio audio presentations. Where do you see

(05:31):
this thing hidden in the future since we are where
we are right now.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Yeah, And I think the Slack is doing a great
job with swack TV, the introduction of swack TV. But
you know, Mike, I think one thing that may be
that may hinder that people may start to I start
to stay at home and watch the games on TV.
You know, if it's if it's inclement weather, if it's

(05:55):
you know, they think it's a big crowd.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
I think people are starting to stay home and watch it.
But I think it's great though. Man, I really do
think it's great. With with what the.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Swack is doing and now with the HBC, you go
and you're seeing all of these HBCU games on TV.
I always wanted that to be the case back in
the day when you really you know, you had to
call a TV said, you had to pay somebody to
go to a game and shoot it for you. But
now you can get them on TV, and I think
that's great right now.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
How do you see that as a threat to radio production.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
Or an in hand or they work hand in hand.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
Sometimes it works hand in hand. Sometimes it works hand
in hand. Uh, Like with with Swack TV, they will
uh will connect with our broadcast and use that for them.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Sometimes it's not with.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
With other you know, sources like maybe like ESPN or
something that they think they're all that they come in
the food, you know, you can't get your proper food sometimes. Man,
we were at Mobile, we had the broadcast in.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
The stand way. So yeah, something you become the underground railroad.
Is that what I'm here said? Well, look Rob. I
know you guys have.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
Been accustomed to being the host of this event, the
impact of this thing economically emotionally, but it can be
a little draining sometime on the backside of things. Can
you can you help give some some viewpoints of what
it's like doing this on a regular basis.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
You mean the championship game, yes, sir, Yeah, well I know,
you know, well, the the JSU crew has to they
have to do the field, they have to paint the field,
they have to get things.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Ready, and I know it is a lot of a
lot of work.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
To get it done, but you know, it's it's great
to have a game here in Jackson. This is the
second year row that we've had it in Jackson.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
I like it, but you don't have to travel.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
But it's tact, you know, on the workers who really
have to do the dirty work, like you know, painting
the field and getting the stadium ready and all that.
But yeah, I think it's a lot of work. But
me personally, I love it because we don't have to
go anywhere.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
I do understand. I do understand.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
Get to stay in your own bed and roll right
on up there and go for your day production. Now, Rob,
I gotta bring this to the table, man, some of
your Mississippians have.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Been really, really feeling good.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
It was to the point to where I almost well,
I didn't almost, I did. I literally laid down my
journalist's cap for a moment. God tells me, I understand,
you can have your confidence. He said, Man, Jackson is
gonna beat Perview by four touchdowns. Now, I know you
a JSU play by play guy, and I know you

(08:58):
probably got a lot of confidence and jessure, just like
I have confidence in Prairieview. Even if Perview does lose,
I'm willing to put a whole bunch of money on
the table that it won't be by no full touchdowns.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
Rob Okay, let me just say this that Jackson they
was gonna win by four touchdowns. That might that could
happen if Purview suspend almost everybody on the team, if
they do that, if they spend if they suspend everybody

(09:35):
on the team.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
Yeah, but other than that, no, it's gonna be a
close game. Man.

Speaker 4 (09:39):
I think it's gonna be that guy whoever said that
it's not giving Prayer of View any credit. Well, you know,
you know, Rick James sell Them summed it up he
said that Narcotic is something else, and Jack can say wins.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
If Jesu wins, I think it'll be maybe about three
six or something like that.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Yeah, it ain't gonna be you know, for a touchdown.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Well, Noell, I'm on the record. I'm saying sour as
the matchup goes. I don't know how you might feel
out I say this.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
I'm giving the.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
Edge of the running game slightly to Perview even though
you're averaging more, but Preview has a dual threat defensively.
I'm giving just a little bit edge to pervilege. I'm
giving you guys special teams because you're making some magic
happen special team wise, and I got to messer a
pick them at quarterback position.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
That's just me, man.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
I'm saying that Preview finds a way with a final
score of twenty one to seventeen.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
That's what I'm calling out.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
Well, you know, and Mike, this sounds about what a
score would be. You know, either way, it sounds that's
that's how the score would be.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
Because last I man listening to a PB's coach.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
I mean, good coaches got a good stand, they got
a lot of talent. Those seem like they make a
lot of mistakes. Yeah, I would, I wouldn't. I wouldn't
better against that.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
No, Okay, now there's an underbidch story, and maybe you
can give us a little insight. Started out high but
kind of disappeared. Maybe he's gonna make a re emergence.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
Uh. You guys got a young.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
Receiver, talented receiver, mister Savage that came from Prairie View
that will be coming. You know he's over there with Jackson.
I don't know what his status is with the team.
Is even slated to be involved this weekend?

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (11:30):
Absolutely, he he's been he's been playing. I know he
he got slightly injured midway through the year.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
He started out really really good. Man.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
I saw him in practice and I told him, I say, man,
I'm glad you're here.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
He's a big receiver. Coach date that. Uh, he may
have a shot in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
I don't know why he left Prairieview.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
Maybe can tell me what happened, but man, we are
so happy to have him a year. He the guy.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Man.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
It was part of I guess the restructure order when
the new sheriff come in town. And maybe people didn't
like the way things were signing, so they figured they
would take.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Their talents elsewhere. A very talented young man.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
But I'm pretty sure that if he can walk, he
will be out there, especially with this time. And I
don't know who makes the schedule, but we don't get
a chance to see you guys enough man, but when
we do see you, it's for all the marbles.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
Yeah, I don't know how that works out, because I
don't think Jack to State has played PB well in five.

Speaker 2 (12:32):
Years since twenty nineteen. Yes, sir, well, I take that back.
I take that back. They did play in the championship.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Yes they did, yeah, a couple of years ago. But
I'm talking about as far as regular season. Now, here's
something that I'm saying. This is from a TV perspective.
The first year, Dion came in and I think the
administrative team saved them a little grace.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
He was still trying to figure.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
Some things out and you all were about, believe it,
five hundred or whatever, and they were supposed to play
against Prairie View, but they postponed that game. And I
think it was the salvage old Dion's ego and help
him maintain and they didn't play that game. That was
Dooley's last year at Prairie View. Okay, okay, yeah, I

(13:20):
don't recall it. Was it because of COVID it was,
That's what that was a justification.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
But we know how that go. We know how that go.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
But look, Rob, I want you to let the people
know how they can listen to you if they decide
not to listen to us or watch it on the
deal and give you some closing thoughts and comments.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
Man, we'll wrap this segment up. Okay.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
Yeah, we brought out my games on ninety five point
five FM. It's called Hallelujah FM. You can also hear
us on Serious XM. I don't know the challenge they use.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
It's been the nine seventy two of late, but they
might change it, but it'll be on Serious.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
We'll keep them posting on that. Are your games on
Serious as well? No, no, your your games are okay?

Speaker 3 (14:04):
Well yeah, we don't see and they normally give us
the station number like today on a Wednesday, so we
will know. But you know, man, wherever they listen to,
I hope they enjoyed the broadcast. Like you said, we
try to make it fun. We we we kind of
if it gets out of hand. And I said, what
was so funny last week?

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Jackson?

Speaker 3 (14:22):
What the week the last game against all four Jackson
State was was lining up in the victory formation. So
I was right, I'm going through my little progression of
Jackson State football is brought to you by blah blah
blah blah. So my man, Ashbery said, I said, father,
what what.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
I don't do that man against all?

Speaker 1 (14:49):
Yes, sir, yes, sir, Well it's it's all about fun.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
But look, let me say thank.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
You, sir for your your dedication, your professionalism, uh to
swack as a whole. This is not your first rodeo.
Been a great guy to ear mark and and and
role model. And I truly considered the honor of the
blessing that you came and joined us on our platform
that we can just dialogue a little bit because win,

(15:15):
lose a draw, We're all in this together. But I
do I will say this tongue in cheek. Uh, you've
had your fun in the sun. It's time for a
new sheriff. And so go ahead and let and let
PV shine down there in Jackson.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Just make sure that we get on the bus. Okay, Okay,
can you do that for me? Man, Yes, sir and Mike.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
I gotta tell you, Man, I really appreciate you, you know,
having me on. I really appreciate that, you know, making
me feel like I'm some big deal.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
And I admire you. Man. You know, I always like
talking with you. Know.

Speaker 3 (15:48):
When we talk, we talk about a lot of stuff,
and I really appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
Thank you so much. Well, thank you, sir.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
