Speaker 1 (00:02):
And welcome back to the open mic Broadcast Network in
the radio, got doctor, Mike Trinsford is our mission to
try to bring you some news you could use today.
There's no exception to the rule. I am so fortunate
to have on the line with me right now. I
don't even know if I should bow down, if I
should lay out some red carpet. I don't know exactly
(00:23):
what to do with this. This young man is like
as I call a riseing star. He'll tell you all
about what he's doing. He's everywhere. And let me present
the time and introduce to others none other than mister
Charles Bishop. How you doing today, my friend?
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Man? How are you doing? Mike Man?
Speaker 1 (00:41):
It's always a pleasure to be on with you, brother, Well,
it's a pleasure. I'm just honored man that you didn't
block my number. And you know you you know you
still you know respond you know to a text. But
your as I say, your stock has truly been on
the rise.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
And before we get into any detail, bring the people
up to me to introduce yourselves. Let the folks know
who you are, what you're doing, man, and how we
ended up here?
Speaker 4 (01:09):
Sure sure, Charles, best if I put host Doctor Cavils
inside the htc U Sports Lab. That's on the Tuesdays
and Thursdays as well as a Sunday morning show. I'm
also played by play broadcaster with Swack TV. I am
also a play by play broadcaster with Texas Sunday and
that I do their baseball games.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
I've been doing some of their basketball games as well.
But uh, yeah, yeah, I'm I'm kind of I'm kind
of all.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Over the place man, all over the place man, and
just excited, uh and and and and happy for you,
proud of you man, if you allow me to say that,
uh you you you've been You've been doing this the
right way as slow as I say, a slow cook
or crop pile or crock pot style, taking what you
can get, perfecting your craft.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Man. Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
That one thing he failed and mentioned folks while we
got him on this line today is that he's also
a Jackson's Jackson State graduate. We don't hold we don't
hold it against them. We don't hold it against them,
you know. But one of the reasons why I got
you on here because we want to talk. It's a
big week this week, a great opportunity for two teams,
(02:19):
uh to flex their muscle, if you will. And I
don't have to ask you who you think is going
to win that that would be redundant. But I do
want to hear your insights on how you see this
matchup fairing out this week, my friend.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
Sure, And and this is I think gonna be one
of the more exciting sweat championships that we've seen, because
both of these teams are so even. I mean you
kind of look up and down, you know, the uh,
the tail of the tape, if you will, and you.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Know they're kind of mirror images of each other.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
And I was telling someone, you know, early back in
this early back in the season, and I believe I
was watching preview when they played uh East Texas A
and N, and they finished the game out like over
the last four minutes or so, where at East six
of A and M, they didn't give an opportunity to
get the ball back. And I turned around and I said,
(03:11):
they remind me of Jackson State from twenty twenty four,
you know, in that.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
You saw the offensive line win the game.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
And that was the most impressive thing to me early
in this season taking a look at Purview and the defense,
they were opportunistic and the defense I think got stronger
and stronger during the course of the season, and they
are a very impressive team and I give them so
much credit.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
I mean, Tremaine Jackson.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
Not only did he come in talking to talk, but
he's walked to walk. And if you're a fan of
PERVI and M football, this has.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Got to be so exciting.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
I mean to really, you know, you know, walk in
behind your general so to speak, and in your general's like, hey, listen,
I've been here before, I know what to do, and
that is that That has to give you a tremendous.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
Amount of confidence, no doubt about it. Now what I've
always respected about uh TC Taylor, Uh he's a quiet storm.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Uh he he just lets his work speak for himself.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
He's going to uh say the right things, but like
he's more about an man of action than just the
the wolf ticket type there. I'm not gonna uh chase
too much. I'm just gonna let my work speak for itself.
And when you look at these tails of the tape
I've been going throughout, man, I've had Rob Jay, I've
(04:31):
had Coach Northern, I've had a whole bunch of people.
But then I got to drop this in you You
an alarm and I'm gonna get your honest se back
on this I got. I got a guy in Jackson well,
and I won't say jack but he's in the Mississippi
in the Delta area, and he did everything but assure
me that Jackson was gonna beat for you by four touchdowns.
(04:55):
I would disagree, disagree, and I had to step back,
and like.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
James, I had to kiss myself. I said, what say.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
What Jackson State fans are are.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Not short on confidence?
Speaker 3 (05:14):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (05:15):
That is the culture.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
That is a culture that I grew up in. Uh.
You talk to a lot of old Jackson.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
State players and one of the things that strikes you
in regards to being around them, they are it's the
slatter And you know they'll tell you, Harvey, we felt
like we were fourteen points up when we got.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Off the bus.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
So you know, it's it's just uh, it's just part
of the DNA uh in terms of Jackson State football.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
And you know, I just have to say, you know, uh,
Jackie State football hit hard times, you know, especially when.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
I got into the broadcast of business. You know, my
very first game that I ever broadcasted was with you.
It was over at the old Waller Stadium, and I
will I will never forget a kickoff.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Where the ball literally went.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
Behind the kickoff team.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
The high winds. That the.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Exactly. But you know, it's it's been a resurgence. That
resurgence came back during Coach Prime's era where the Swagger
came back.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
And now that fan base they feel as though it's uh,
it's an earthlight.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
To be in the Swag Championship.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Then well here's my my, my kickback to that statement
you just made.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Did the Swagger ever leave?
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Because when you followed Jess, you, like you said, the
proud history, the sense of belonging and dare I say arrogance.
Even in what I up as the Comagy curse, you
guys were still a proud, boastful group. You still were
talking your noise. Now, so so did the Dion fac Well,
(07:00):
here's the problem that I have with it. Here's the
problem I have with him. Okay, yes, Dion came in
did some things, but Dion a did not discover Jackson State,
nor did he discover the swack. Okay, he came in
and he was Dion, and he drew attention to Don.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
But even Rob Jayden brought this up.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
T C. Taylor was able to do something that Dion
didn't do, and that was win a championship.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
So he didn't he did win a championship. And here's
my gentle pushback.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
Okay, and we don't Jackson State doesn't get to the
Celebration Bowl without winning the Slack Championship.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
So we can never credit the.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
Fact that he actually got Jackson State back into the
upper echelon of the Southwestern Athletic Conference because I'll be
the first one to tell you from two thousand and
I believe fourteen until twenty twenty one, yeah, we were
lost in the woods.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
So I tell you now, we'll get he was showed
better than a Harold Jackson written diition of Jackson State exactly.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
You know, so so when but the silent killer and
all that.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
Was t C.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
Taylor Man.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
Yeah, absolutely, and and and one of the things you know, uh,
I think with regards to TC is I mean I've
been around him.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Quite a bit.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
I mean, uh, he is a true, true student of
the game. Uh he uh understands what he wants to
get done because he called plays with Jackie Stapers for
quite some time.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Uh, coach Prime.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
And uh, I mean he he understands how.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
To get guys in space, he understands who he needs
to have the football win and he that's that's sort
of an uncanny thing that he does. But you know, uh,
he you know, you can make an argument you know
that he's he was there under Prime, comes from that
Prime tree.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
But I mean, Jared Mack has a tremendous.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
Amount of influence with regards to uh what TC has
done uh at Jackson State, and uh, I'm sure he
considers Jerry mca a mentor of his. And I think
sort of the nuanced thing. I think sometimes people sort
of say, well, Jackson State is still riding, you know,
the tailwinds of coach Bryan. I think the nuance to
(09:20):
it is, you know, TC's really fashion in this roster to.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
What he wanted to see. Uh So you've seen a lot.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
Of similarities I think to nineties Jackson State football or
where they where that offensive line literally they come to
lean on you.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
You know.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
One of the things that's part of the Jacks a
DNA is you're gonna have a tailback, you know, big
guy who can run in between the tackles and that's
what you've seen, uh with TC, and that's something I
think he brought over from his time in North Carolina
Central under.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Jerymac right right, And and I'll tell you another thing.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
I hit that you got the number one rushing offense
in Jackson against the number two rushing offense in Prairie View,
and it's going to be a.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
Lean on both defenses.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
Now, I want to I want to hear your analytical
breakdown from positions. I already know who you think is
going to win, but I want to hear your breakdown,
and if you dare give me a score, sure.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
I mean I want to have to kind of take
a look at this.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
And to me, I mean, we know about the desire
rock Wales, we know about the need members of the
you know the top two receivers if you will, in
the swag. But to me, this game kind of comes
down to, you know, those unsung guys that you know they.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
Might not be at the scout at the top of.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
The SCYT report, but they've done damage all during the
course of the season.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
You take a look at Prayerview. Of course we.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Know Lemajah mcdowe, we know Chase Bingman, but guess who
else is sitting out there.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Shaggy Bird has led them in rushing in a couple
of games. So you know, that's a name that you
have to be.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
Aware of with regards to Prayerview because you know you're
paying attention to these other two guys and this is
the one who's killing it, so you know, and the
same thing with Josiah Rockwell, you know you're paying attention
to him.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
I'm sure he's gonna draw double coverage, but you can't
let you know, Rody Ojo. You know, he can't let
Andre Dennis get off.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
So those are the guys that, you know, the unsung
guys that you're sort of.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
Paying attention to. And it's the same thing with regards
to Jackson State.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
You know, you know Amon Miller in terms of what
he's able to do is a thousand yard back. But
it's the Nil Davenports, those those guys, the Travis Darrel
in terms of what he can do as a running
back and then on special teams as well. So you
know that Janalen Dupree from a wide receiver standpoint, So
it's the unsung guys that can really, I think be
(11:45):
the difference or the guys that kind of took the
balance for either team.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Well, there's an unsung hero, unsung story that I think
is going to have a pivotal role and from what
I'm understanding, very healing in just the right amount of time.
Young man by the name of Savage. Now Savage, of
course was a receiver Purview left. Of course, he ends
up at Jackson, started out high, ended up on the
(12:13):
injury list. I think, either positive or negative, he's going
to be a factor in this game due to the
emotional factor of coming in. Man, I get to play
against these guys where I was and for whatever reason,
I'm here now, and I think he's going to be
(12:33):
a key element in this entire game.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
He could be another key element when you take a
look at what Samorrow Savage can do and one of
the things that it was pointed out to me and
now I really do pay attention to it, but he
is a complete monster blocking downfield. He used that frame
to his advantage and a lot of those big runs
that you've seen with jack the state, you go back
(12:58):
and kind of look at the film and Savages running downfield,
blocking and keeping that lane open to where they can
get another twenty thirty.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Yards, So you know he's one of those guys. He is.
He's been a tremendous compliment.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
To Jackson State's offense when he's on the field, if
he's not getting behind a secondary, he does a tremendous
job blocking from his receiver position. So he could be
another X factors will a good job point him out?
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Yes, sir, well you've given me your politically correct answers.
Now I want to hear the fan and you're sure,
what are you projecting this thing? You'll be at the
when the dust is standing at five pm approximately this
coming weekend.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
The number that I'm going.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
To be looking at with either team is two hundred.
If Jackson State can get to two hundred yards rushing,
I feel pretty comfortable that Jackson State will will win
this football game. On the flip side of that, I
think one of the things, if you're going to talk
about an Achilles hill Jackson State's defense, it might be
the secondary.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
So if Cameron Peters.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
Can have one of those games that he's had over
the past at least three games, I think we're previews
averaging fifty four points a game. You know that that
could be a long day for Jackson State as well.
And then we do have to pay attention to what
the weather's gonna do. There's gonna be inclement weather coming
into Jackson over Thursday and Friday. The last I looked
at the weather port, I think there was a sixty
(14:24):
percent chance of rain on Saturday. So we'll have to
see how that plays out in regards to the game.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
But I think the.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
Key, uh, if you're a Jackson State fan, does that
offensive line can they lean on the previous defensive line
enough to where it opens things up in the fourth quarter?
And a lot of times we've seen that happen with
jack and State, especially over the past two years. And
one of the things DC will tell you is like, listen,
you have to match our physicality. There are I have
(14:54):
not seen up until last week. Up until last week,
it seemingly was the only team that sort of matched
that physicality that kept Jackson State from getting over two
hundred yards rushing. And you know, Jackie State was able
to pull it out. But that's a number that I'm
paying attention to with regards to both teams. But you know,
(15:15):
if Jackis State can actually run the ball and implement.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
Weather and get over that two hundred yard marker.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
I see a game coming down to the last seven
minutes in the fourth quarter, and you know, Jackson State
scores a late touchdown and makes it twenty seven.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
Seventeen, twenty seven to seventeen. Okay, well, I won't give
a long defined breakdown like you just said.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
I said, prays go only twenty one to seventeen, and
so I think it's going to be very.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Physical game.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
And to me, to be quite honest with you, I
know you mentioned Peters the quarterback position between both programs.
I got it as a pick on. I don't know
who's gonna show up. I think that's what's gonna happen. Morgan, Uh,
I know he's gonna will himself. I'm understanding he's saying, Hey,
I'm playing. I don't care what you say. Man, you
(16:15):
think I'm not gonna sit out at this If I
can walk.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
I'll be there.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
And and Peters, they say that, I head old baseball
coach say, man, I don't know if you going to
the outhouse or a white house. We don't know what
you're gonna get. But I I really think that and
the special teams play, you know, so we'll we'll we'll
see what's gonna happen, but either way, I'm looking forward
to it. I wanna thank you man for taking time
(16:39):
to be with us here. Wanna give you some clothes
and thoughts and comments and uh where where people can
catch your work and what you're doing.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
And we'll wrap this segment up.
Speaker 4 (16:51):
Oh my first and foremost, let me say for everybody here,
thank you. Thank you for all that you've.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Done in my broadcasting career.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
I got my start with you, so with how my prince,
there is no Charles Bishop uh doing some of the
things that I'm doing.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
With regards to broadcasts, and I'm really appreciative.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
Uh for you uh sort of having an ear for
me and you, I don't know if you remember you
told me on the plane it's like, listen, you got
something you know, uh, so you know you need to
go ahead and hone your craft. So that's something that
I've been superbly diligent about in terms of continuing to
get the reps so speak, and whenever I get an opportunity,
(17:31):
whether it's uh with Slack TV, whether it's with Texas
high school football, I try to get the reps in
to try to perfect the perfect the art, and it
is art with regards to play by playing broadcasting. So
I absolutely appreciate you for giving me that opportunity. You know,
I can't say enough about that.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
Wow, you threw me off on that one, man. How
can the people catch? How can people catch? I appreciate
that very much? But how can people catch your work?
Speaker 3 (18:00):
Man? And you mentioned said you didn't do it?
Speaker 1 (18:02):
You got so much on the table, now, folks, he
outgrew us and he just got so busy. But you
do the high school Texas high school football, uh, Texas
Southern Basketball baseball, You got your talk show, You're on
Swack TV.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
Man, Do you have room to do anything else?
Speaker 2 (18:20):
I know? Right?
Speaker 4 (18:21):
And then I'm also working on my doctor so I
should be finishing that U.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
Pre Yeah, man, I got a lot of things in
the house, man, yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
Man, the business man in the swag, Well, man, I
truly appreciate you. Man, Keep on grinding, man. And and
one thing that's going to always remain the same. It's
gonna always be about the game. It's gonna always be
bigger th us. There's gonna be people coming around us,
behind us, through us, and for us. But it's all
about being the very best you can be at any
(18:50):
given season. He is mister Charles Bishop. I am the
radio guy, Doctor Mike Prince. Folks, y'all heard it. He
said twenty seven one. I think that's what you said, right,
twenty seven twenty one. I'll saying twenty one.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
Twenty seven. I say, twenty seven seven seventeen.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
That's right. Oh, you don't want to give me to
twenty one. You don't even want to give it to
twenty one, right, Okay.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
I got you at twenty said get it right, man,
twenty seven to seventeen.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
Man, that almost sound like full touchdown, Joe.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
Oh, I guess the man. I get my DNA so here.
I am trying to be humbled with me now.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
But either way, man, man, we'll get together after Man,
I know you're going to be there live and live
in color. Travel safe, my friend. Say hello to your family, uh,
and just keep on keeping on. I am the radio guy,
