Speaker 3 (00:26):
HiT's the classy I'm a hard all right, all right,
welcome back another episode of Mixed Company Podcasts. Of course
we're back. Take a look week. You know, we take
a break off, and you know we can't do every week.
It's not a whole lot that goes on for us
be here every week, but you know, every other week,
normal time, normal situation. Myself Jamison Welsh, and of course

(00:48):
I'm joined by the classy alcoholic classic What's going on?

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Oh Man? Good to be back to with episode four
of Everybody's favorite new pro boxing podcast. So, if y'all
celebrated Thanksgiving last week, I hope you had a great time.
Hopefully had a fun, safe time with family and if
you had to work it, your retail bartender hoped that
it wasn't too crazy and none of the customers were
sticks to you. But Jamison, how's your Thanksgiving?

Speaker 3 (01:13):
It was really cool? Went back home in southern California
for about a day and a half, got some food,
saw some family, good conversations. They had it right back
to Vegas all as well as cold outside, it was
a little chili, you know, we are in the desert.
But other than that, no plants at all. I'm glad
December is here. I'm glad that we're closer to the
new year. Got some good stuff coming up, so just

(01:35):
to chucking right along.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Often that's great. It is not cold here in Arizona
where actually was a pretty sad heat wave here since
the last week. But yeah, whatever it's been. We used
to have cold halloweens back when I moved here twenty
years ago, but it's not a thing anymore. But yeah,
but either way, you know, I'm excited to be back
and excited to talk about some awesome topics. You know,

(01:57):
let's just get right to it. Let's do some quick
lightning rounds on the news on Boxing News. So on
our pilot episode, we talked extensively about the possibility of
Terrence Bud Crawford fighting Canal Avarice. We're still not sure
if that fight will happen, but there's actually been rumors
that Bud Crawford may retire if he doesn't get the
Canelo fight, which is unacceptable. So as far as I'm concerned,

(02:22):
this fight must happen if that's true.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
So, yeah, boxers starting to retire every day. Hell, I'll
sell everything about tank talking about this is last year
in twenty five boxing. So like we hear about boxing
retiring every year. Like let's relax, like let's less, let's
show a little bit. We understand these things do happen. Also,
it's a great negotiating point. It's a great thing to

(02:46):
have in your back pocket just in case you got
to pull that car to get more money or more
leverage in whatever it is that you're trying to accomplish.
So we get it. I mean, for the most part,
every boxer either threatened to retired or retired and came
back times. I don't think it's a big deal. I
just think that there's really only one big fight for Crawford,
and we saw what happened the last fight. It wasn't

(03:08):
as clean as previous fights, it was not as dominant
as other fights. So he's looking at like, hey man,
I'm getting older. We all know what happens when guys
get old that fight like he do, like he does.
We know that the skills are not the same once
you advance an age, no matter how sharp you are.
He's looking like, hey, I got one payday left. I'm
going to wait it out and then see what happens.

(03:29):
So we'll definitely see. But he ain't retiring, all right,
all right.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
I'm a bit worried because you know, I don't want
to lose, but he's a great fighter and we'll miss him.
Uh And you know, just to try to convince people
to make this happen. We're a young podcast. I'm sure
Canelo isn't listening, but I'm pretty sure as trainer and
manager Eric Renoso is, so Eddie, now you're listening, make
the deal for the fight.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Please.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
We want to see this happen. The fans wanted, the
people want it, the boxing world needs it.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
It's bigger than boxing world. This is a sports world.
That's the thing. We don't have that many fights in
either combat sport that the general person want to see,
the general fan want to see. This is bigger than
Spence Crawford Spence. This is bigger than any other fight
that you made in boxing. Right now, this also it
joins the black and brown people together at the table. Again.

(04:21):
It raised together Bigs Company ironically if it were to
come about. But no, it's one of those situations where
we need to have a situation where all of our
main guys are fighting. We got to have the big brands,
the big names, playing and fighting each other. If not,
then sports is in sports, like we have to get
this like it's more so then you don't want the

(04:42):
thing to die. You don't want the all that matchup.
That sounds cool, but it's never going to happen. We
went through that way it want to pack you out
ten years ago, where it got talked about for so long.
By time it happened, there's no interest in that. I
don't want to be in twenty twenty eight and Bud's
forty something, we're talking about him fighting Canelo. That's about there.
I don't want it. We don't want that. We want
that when God is still able to fight at the

(05:03):
best their abilities and go from there.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Absolutely agreed, So fingers crossed, we see that fight soon.
Next thing I read, Ryan Garcia is supposed to be
back in the ring for an exhibition fight against that
Japanese Kickboxer on December thirtieth. He's still doing time on
his one year suspension after being caught doping during the
last fight against Devin Hainey. But Ryan's promoter, Oscar de
Laya says he and Golden Boyd Promotions have the right

(05:27):
to sign off on any of Ryan's fights and they're
not going to do that. So is this fight it
even happening? I think the drama is a bit more
exciting than the prospect of the fight. Honestly, we already
talked about at length how we don't really care about exhibitions.
It's not real boxing. The it's not. The question is
that do we care about this fight? Is do we
care about Ryan Garcia coming back? I'm kind of sick
of his shit, to be quite honest with here.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
So in general we do care beco he's a name,
and he's a name for different reasons, so we definitely care. However,
the reason why Oscar has signed off on it is
because Oscar probably is not getting paid as much as
he wants to from this. That's the biggest reason. If
you're telling me Austin Gett a nice split, then he
definitely signs off on it. If it's a situation where
it's not a part of his contract deal with Golden Boy,

(06:09):
and that's a whole different conversation. So I think that's
the biggest hang up right now is that Oscar is
not getting financially compensated from this situation. So I think
that's the biggest hang up on everything. However, here's the thing.
We don't need to see Ryan Garcia fight anyone like
that because here's if he gets hurt doing that, it
pushes the timeline back even further. The year's suspension. It

(06:32):
feels like it's going to be coming up early.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Was it?

Speaker 3 (06:35):
When? When was the suspension official last year? This past year,
So we're coming up on that, I mean, the new
year's coming up. Once in the year comes, you're you
can't risk anything happening to where a shoulder, he tears
a labram, or he enters me or an ankle to
where you got three more months of recovery on top
of the time. You can't risk that. So I understand

(06:58):
the caution of it. However, there's not a lot of
money in that exhibition. Fast thing is not why he's
going to make fifty million. That ain't no one he
don't have that kind of fan so I just think
it's a very It's a high risk, low award situation
for everybody involved.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
I looked it up. Coincidentally, the fight was on four
to twenty this year. If this exhibition happens, it's going
to be in Tokyo, which is amazing by the way,
I visited several years ago. Absolutely love Tokyo. But on
this topic, just a bit of warning to Ryan, who
is it shy about telling people he likes to smoke weed,
which is cool. The Japanese do not fuck with weed.
That country loves alcohol to the point of basically encouraging

(07:37):
alcohol abuse, I know, but they consider smoking weed to
be as bad as doing heroin. So if this fight happens,
we might get news that Ryan Garcia gets busted at
Hayneeda Airport with some grass tucked into his shoe and
goes to japan jail. So let's I want to keep
an eye on that for that reason.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Honestly, Nah. So here's the thing. When you're a celebrity,
you go to those countries, you got to tap in
with other celebrities that are of that culture that do
what you do. You don't just go over there and
bring that in. You gotta tap in with whomever they'll
god you because people still mean put this a way.
People don't go there and smoking. It don't work that way.
There's ways getting done. However, with Ryan's situation, man, I

(08:15):
don't know, but I don't trust him to make the
right decisions. But also he feels like a guy that
has not grown up. He still feels like a child,
and I don't trust him to make an event like
this work. But also here's the thing too, what's the
plan when he comes back from suspension, Like, who's he
gonna fight? Does he get does him to do a rematch?
Does he get a lesser known fighter to get his

(08:37):
groove back and then fight a big name? What's the mark?
I have a lot of questions. I have a lot
of questions when it comes in.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
I expect him to get a to fight. Honestly, something
needs some easy work, you know, some tomato can Maybe
that's kind of my expectation. But you know what, at
the end of the day, Ryan, if you do make
this fight happen, enjoy Tokyo. Man, it's a beautiful, beautiful place. Absolutely,
So let's see another thing. A literal movie trailer was

(09:06):
released over the weekend for the Fury versus Usik rematch
happening on December twenty first, And this thing is wild.
You did you get a chance to see this?

Speaker 3 (09:13):
I did? I did.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
If you're listening, you got to look this up on YouTube.
It's only two minutes long. Pause the episode. Give us
a five star review. Go on Google and YouTube after
that and look up just Fury Usic promo or Fury
Usic trailer. It's weirder than we could possibly describe it.
It's you know what, It's basically a short film, and
it looks as good as some shitty movies that have

(09:35):
seen in theaters, Like if you've seen some of the
lesser comic book movies, I think this trailer looks better
than a few of those.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
You know what, most boxing trailers are actually really good though.
Looking but looking back on things, especially with like the
twenty four sevens and everything and the access on Showtime,
all those trailers in the shows were really well. I mean,
no one did it better than HBO as first and foremost,
no one did a better at HBO. I don't care
who was fine. Even if it was a small ranked
fight fight, it would not it would still bring intrigue.

(10:05):
Their product. Their production team was so top notch, so detailed,
it made you feel like you had to watch or
had to order the fight. So I like how. And
also you have to market it because no one's really
looking for Tyson Fury in twenty twenty five. No one's
really checking for him like that, So you gotta market it.
You better make it appeal to other people. But also

(10:26):
here's a while dude, Like that's a different cat, like
he's not normal.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
Agreed, And you know, I think I like these these
these trailers. I like this one. There was a really
good one for better be versus Beebel. I think when
you're a fighter in your life is in the gym,
the promotion you do is like press conferences, waves, et cetera.
So doing something like this has got to be a
lot of fun. And I'm glad.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
These guys are having fun, especially when you're not doing
anything outside of the ring, right, Like, it's one thing
if you're very active outside the ring, like if you
got something going on, or if you're like a star.
So if you're like a star on your oils outside
out of events, and that's one thing, But if you're
just a boxer, then yeah, you need these these type
of things to get people interested, so that schools gonna
be very interesting to see. But yeah, fears of wildcat

(11:12):
man wild wildcat. But also he hasn't been in shape
in the last handful of fire he's been The conditioning
has been really bad last few fights.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
He's also six to nine. I mean that counts for
a lot.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
I think it does, but you can't conditioning. You can
tell he gets a lot, he gets tired a lot
quicker in the fight to where he doesn't have a
lot left earlier than he did in the past. You
can tell he's not taking conditioning seriously as did in
the past. It's definitely something that's off.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
I think he's coasting on the name and does doesn't
he have like energy drinks that He's probably making a
lot of money out.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
British So he's making a lot of money. I actually
know somebody that's close to the camp, so I can't
necessarily to the name, but I'm I'm aware of the money.
He's yeah money and is more like you said, he's chilling.
Like it's a situation where you make enough money and
you chill and I get it. He's been bought. He's
based on a timer tour. He's basically on Leo. We

(12:07):
don't you don't have a whole lot of fights left,
so he's going cash in one more time and then
whatever happened after this happens.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
Now the Mixed Company podcast has inside info. This is
the why we are the premiere pro boxing podcast.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Uh cool. That's pretty much the topics of the news.
I wanted to get get out off top.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
You know.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
I'll keep checking, you know, news alerts and all that
and anything that seems interesting. Well, we'll bring in the
news in the boxing world. But speaking of energy drinks,
I'm gonna crack one of mine. We're gonna be talking
about Mexican boxers today, So I'm pulling out another one
of my Canelos brand of canned como. It is good.
It is good. Yeah, But what's what's it like? It's

(12:46):
it's it's a It's a can of margarita, is what
it is. So it's not injury. That's that's a drink
drink for me, it's it's energy. I need to keep
the party going by which I'm.

Speaker 3 (12:55):
So energy drink is a red Bull like uh so
we what monster, That's just that's just a drink. You yeah,
you just lived up to the day.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
Wait sobriety when sobriety is sadness? This is my energy drink,
is all I'll say, right right. But they're but they
are good, Yeah, they're actually you know it's on People think, oh,
he's buying this thing because he's a Canelo fan boy.
Well I am a Canelo fan boy, but I actually
think these drinks are good. So they're called VMC. You
see him at your store, check them out, you know,
not an ad, but just a recommendation.

Speaker 3 (13:26):
Okay, fair enough, Now I was checking. I thought I
was a real I thought you would think Canelo would
have an energy drink because the boxer. But you know,
with all that, with all due respect, you know.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
I think he does. But I'm not going to buy
that because it doesn't have any boos in it.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
So ah, gotcha.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
I feel so big fight happening this weekend. I'm very excited.
December seventh, Phoenix, Arizona, Oscar Valdez versus Emanuel Navarette, two
Mexican fighters will face off for the second time. La
Revancha the rematch, and I will be in attendance. I
am very excited. So it's gonna be a great fight.

(14:02):
Did you see their first matchup? Jameson, I did see
the first matchup. Before we go in to details about that.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
Where in Phoenix that fight at, is that in the
NBA arena or is that a small a smaller venue.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
It is a small It's called the Footprint Center. Okay,
let me ask where the hockey team played or something
like that. Uh, you're thinking of Glenda the Glendale Arena.
I don't right, I don't know what the actual name
of it. But it's in the town of Glendale and
like the suburb of Phoenix. But this fight is going
to be right in the heart of downtown Phoenix for.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
The Suns play. Yeah, it's big arena. Yeah, yeah, Okay,
that's cool. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
No, I'm very excited. Down to the downtown hotel Prices. No,
there's a fight happening. Let me just say that. So
they're they're they're in the no. But yeah, this is
actually the first like professional, you know, televised boxing event
I will be attending. I've seen some you know, kind
of local events here and there, smaller name like young

(14:59):
guys that are trying to make a name for themselves,
and also some older guys that you know, maybe somebody's
mechanic likes boxing, so they brought him into those showcases.
No disrespect, you know, I'm glad that he got into
the ring. Ticks balls, but you know that's the kind
of things that I've seen light before. This This one
gonna be on ESPN Legit Pro fight and I'm stoked.
So h yeah, what did you think of the last?

(15:21):
All this about the fight?

Speaker 3 (15:23):
So I need I need a refresher because my memory
is Tuesday and it's been a lot going on. I
don't need the refresher. But before we get to that,
you're going as a fan or you covering the fight.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
As a fan? I will come back and discuss, you know,
anything interesting, But I don't actually I'm an nubie at this,
so I don't actually know what it means to cover.
I'm not talking to anybody in the know. I got, so.

Speaker 3 (15:50):
I'm gonna I'm gonna give you some tips. When you
cover a fight, you get obviously get access to the fight,
You're gonna get free parking, and you get free food.
Sud I do that they usually feed so next time
you want the next to the fight in Phoenix, let
us know. We'll fell the credential form and get you
set up that way, especially since you have a podcast
now talking about boxing. That's the first thing. Now you

(16:12):
can't actively for fighters, but you can get that set
up for you. Also, most people, a lot of people
who do cover the fights are not media members either,
Like a lot of people will portray that media members,
but they're not. They're there to watch the fights, un
chill and whatnot and watch the fight at a close range.
So just giving you a heads up going forward, we

(16:33):
will try to get a credential to make things work
and make things easier for you so you can watch
the fight, meet people, all that good stuff and grow
the brand and get that experience. Because I think going
as a fan is cool because once you go as
a fan, what ends up taking place is this, You're
in it, you're drinking, you're having fun, you're watching the fan,

(16:54):
and you covering. You can still have your own drinks,
and I wouldn't suggest drinking there while you're in the
press area, but you can still. You know, if you
can put something in a different cut, you know you
can make it work. Well.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
Yeah, in between matches.

Speaker 3 (17:07):
Yeah, yeah, exactly. With that being said, though, covering it,
your perspective is different, right, So you're watching the fight,
you're trying to see the why, why is this happening?
Why does that happening? But I'm also looking at the atmosphere.
You're looking at the stadium. So I think those things
would work very well for you going forward and give
you different perspectives on both. But I think going to

(17:30):
the fight is dope. I think Phoenix is an interesting
place because you do have a very very big population
of people who do like boxing, but it's on the
West coast. You have Vegas in LA so it doesn't
get mentioned like that. But I don't think it's a
bad idea, and hopefully going forward after this one, you
will be able to cover a fight.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
Oh man, I love to I So I'm the classy
alcoholic because I started a blog ten years ago writing
about craft beer, you know, independent craft breweries, and I
ended up getting invited to beer Fest every year around
Arizona and it was a lot of fun. So I
know a little bit about that life, but it's totally
different in a different aspect. So yeah, man, next time
that there's a fight, we're gonna make this as legit

(18:10):
as possible because the classy alcoholic is the newest member
of your sports media.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
Baby, that's right. We gotta go to the brands, so
we got we gotta go to things like that. Hell,
even some fights in Vegas, like there's there's a certain fights
you're probably not gonna be able to get to you, right,
So here's to here's the tip. If you wanted to
go see Canelo, right, if you wanted to go see
the Canelo fight fights in May or September, the issue
is this, you'll probably get to prove for a Credentially,

(18:35):
there's a good chance you would. However, you'd be watching
from way way up, so the experience isn't really that
cool in my opinion, I think that's kind of a
waste of time. However, there's other fights where you'll be
in the press area, get to watch the fight, get
to enjoy, get to talk to people, meet people. It's
not a bad situation. So I just think that every
situation is what it is. But be able to cover
a fight, especially if you're not gonna have a lot

(18:57):
of boxing media act just in general, that's a pretty
good idea. So that's something to keep in mind. But however,
you know, we you know, obviously Neverette did win the
first fight. I believe he's favored in this one as well,
not mistaken. Yeah, yeah, that's always interesting because normally, well

(19:19):
not interesting, that's no, is the norm whenever a fighter
was the first one, unless something crazy happened like a
DQ or anything like that, that's normally the case of
rematch as well. However, things could change, and that's why
that's why we're here. That's where you're going to the fight.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
Sure, I mean Nava won by decision in the last one.
I think that was very well deserved. For those of
you who don't know, means the Cowboy, that's his nickname.
He has a fight style that is I guess the
word would be disorienting. He's got long arms, long reach.
He's at first he looks like he's not graceful. He
swings wildly, but when do you watch closely, the man

(19:57):
has some killer accuracy too, so he's not just getting
out there, you know, flailing. It might look like that
right off the bat, but him, but also him and
Oscar al Valdez, they're tough as hell, so they are
warriors the brawlers, and they can take some serious punishment
and keep fighting. So the issue in the last fight
is that Oscar Valdez was not prepared for Navadata style,

(20:19):
and he admits it. You know, he says he it
just caught him off guard literally in a couple of
times with those uppercuts. But he says, you know, he's
gonna he's gonna learn from this, and he's a smart fighter.
I don't know if he has the uh, the skills
to pull it off. I mean, he's he's I just
hope he works really, really hard. But at the end
of the day, I think, oh, Navareta also he can

(20:43):
overwhelm you with a lot of punches really fast, and
Oscar wasn't let his hands go enough. I'd say it
was a blowout the last fight. So I'm very excited
now that Oscar kind of knows what to expect. Uh,
I'm no matter what, I am expecting hell of a
good time. Another thing, Oscar Valdes is kind of a

(21:03):
hometown hero. So I don't know if you know, but
he's from a city called Nogalis in the state of Sonora,
which is right across the border from US. Yeah, So
if I'm in twoson Arizona, if I get into a
car from where I am right now in my super
secret podcasting bunker and I head south, I could be
an Oscar's hometown in one hour. So as you can imagine,
there's be a lot there's a lot of Sonoran Mexicans

(21:24):
in Arizona period, and there's gonna be a lot of
his fans at this fight. So this is gonna be
a Valdez crowd. Uh, even that nav is from like
more central Mexico, closer to Mexico City. So this in
itself is kind of a mixed company fight. Because even
if I'm rooting for Nevada the Wind, if I think
he's gonna win, I'm not gonna be that loud. I'm

(21:45):
just gonna be enjoying the good time. But I'm not
gonna he's gonna get booed by the crowd, you know,
in in in a in a cool way, you know,
in a they'll be enjoying the fight. They're not gonna
be actually they don't actually hate him, but it's this crowd.
It's going to be four Valdez. So you know, I
don't know I at the end of the day. I

(22:05):
think it's gonna be a great match. But let's see,
the point I'm trying to make is that maybe I
will be as vocal with my support for So what.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
That being said? So, is no Gallus that our closer
to Phoenix or is it our further away from where you're.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
At further away? No, Gallles is south of me right
now and then and now hour forty five north.

Speaker 3 (22:26):
Got it? So you so you were saying that's what
three for Phoenix basically.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
Yeah, yeah, okay, which is which is not a lot
for you know, for folks that want to come across
the word who live here and want to come across
the border to support their guy.

Speaker 3 (22:40):
Yeah yeah, Plus it's uh it's weekend, so people gonna
make that trip. Like that's that makes a lot of sense.
That that makes a lot of sense. Like right now,
the book has it, well, it's the Station Casino books.
So sorry, we don't have fand or DraftKings yet, but
Station Casino has never read at a mayas two point fifty.
I mean you gotta put up two hundred and fifty bucks.
One hundred and then Valdez is plus through ten, meaning

(23:02):
if you bet one hundred dollars, you get plus two
and ten back plus one hundred, So that is the line.
Do you think that line is fair? I think so. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (23:12):
I think that Navadata has been the favorite for a
long time, you know, to be the next big boxing superstar. Well,
this is a good fighter, don't get me wrong, but
he's never really had that stardom. I think. Again, the
fans here in Arizona are for him one hundred percent.
But yeah, I think he's he's also getting older, but again,

(23:34):
you know what, Navadata is not unbeatable. So he took
his first l in May of this year against the
Ukrainian fighter named Dennis Burnschick Burnschick, Sorry about fie, mispronounced that,
But coincidentally the fight was the same day that Alexander
Russik beat Tyson furious. So it was a great day
for the people of Ukraine all around, right, right, But yeah,

(23:54):
it's clear Oscar wasn't ready in the last fight. I
don't know. If if I wanted to bet on the winner,
I would bet.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
On ele Okay, good to know, good to know. How
confident are you in doing so? Like if you had
to bet like one hundred dollars one thousand dollars.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
With not a one thousand. I'll tell you that right now. Okay, okay,
unless I wanted to miss a car payment next month, but.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
I mean, you go. So here's the thing with cars,
Like I work in the banking industry, so if anything
ever funny happens, you can have them push your payment
back to get it on the back end of the loan.
So just like this, fy you know how you know,
just just you know, just a heads up.

Speaker 2 (24:34):
Look at all the things that people who are learning
listening to this show. This is great man, not just
about sports, not just about boxing, but you know, life
lessons here. We're basically sports life coaches. Jim, absolutely, But no,
I mean I here's the thing about sports betting, which
I have done, you know, because I do live the
degenerate life, you know, in most ways, I have rules
about betting. So I only bet on boxing because it's

(24:56):
a sport. I know, I only bet on fighters that
I want to win. But also if the odds are
too high favored, I'm not gonna put a lot of
money in. Like you said, I gotta put in two
fifty to win one hundred.

Speaker 3 (25:08):
Is that what it is? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (25:10):
So one hundred you have to put up two hundred
fifty bucks. Yes, yeah, so I would rather bet on
the underdog. But if I really really believed he would win.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
Okay, So in this.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
Case, I don't feel that strongly about Oscar's chances to
put money on him. If I did, I'd put up
one hundred bucks, one hundred and fifty like right now. Okay,
So I need to keep myself in like a box
with some rules here or else. Who knows what could happen?

Speaker 3 (25:36):
Got it? Got it?

Speaker 2 (25:38):
But yeah, but the same thing. Also, I'm never gonna
get a bet on a fighter that I really don't
want to win, which means I'm betting on either the
brown guy or the black guy. Let's just be honest
about that. And if I think, if I think the
white guy's gonna win, I just won't bet. I really,
I just won't do it. I'll walk away. I understand,
I understand. Speaking of Oscar Beldes, did you see his
fight against Jack Curs Stephenson that was in April?

Speaker 3 (26:01):
That was a while ago. I believe it was on ESPN.
There was Yeah, if I'm not mistaken, was that the fight?
Was there a girl? Was there? A girlfriend? Or a
sibling involved.

Speaker 2 (26:18):
Is Shaker Stevenson proposed to his girlfriend at the end
of the.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
Night, and is it his girlfriend that wasn't someone related
to involve. I thought that was something weird where I
thought the girlfriend was lated to volve that it was
something weird like that. If I'm not mistaken that part,
I don't have to look at that interesting something in
relationship regarding to that.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
No, I don't know anything about that. But yeah, that
that fight. That fight I saw at a sports bar
in town here in Tucson called the Neighborhood. It's an
awesome spot. Shout out to them. If good drinks, good food.
It is definitely a Mexican crowd and it's deep in
the ghetto. So if y'all go there, you should go there,
but just don't fuck around because you will get stabbed.
And if you see people doing coke in the bathroom, no.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
You didn't, Okay, fair enough.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
I mean that rule applies anywhere, but especially at the neighborhood.
I'm not just making that scenario up. Just you know,
I'm not just imagining potential scenarios that haven't actually happened.
Things didn't get too rowdy that night on the abal
this Stevenson fight, but you could feel the excitement gradually
died down in the place as the fight went on. Now,
were there racial slurs toward black people being thrown around

(27:24):
in Spanish? I didn't hear any, but I would bet
a lot of money that it did happen that night.
The odds on that you probably had to put down
five rats just to.

Speaker 3 (27:32):
Get like ten bucks back. To be honest with you, Yeah,
you know, I remember the far remember watching the fight.
I actually remember watching it with people here people, there's
some people over that night. Ironically we're drinking jamison. But
that being said, I do remember it was one sided.
It was Yeah, I do remember that. But with that
being said, yeah, the mixed company. So there is no

(27:55):
way possible added respect to the neighborhood, added respect to
Tucson out of what that situation. And it's no offense
to anyone. But it's just a no win situation. Right.
So let's say it is a black and brown fight.
As a black person, you can't win in that. There's
nothing good that happens here. There's nothing good. So if

(28:15):
the brown fighter wins, it's ninety five percent greatness and
everybody's happy, and then I'm sad. It's the other way,
the numbers of the mad bad mad. It's just not
gonna work. I've done that before, not gonna happen again.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
So I went undercover because I actually wanted chick or
Stevenson to win, because that's when he was at top. Yeah, yeah,
I was therapy.

Speaker 4 (28:38):
I was yeah, it was like Chicker Stevens in Yeah, yay, awesome.
I hope both fighters have fun. But I really didn't
want him to win because I was a fan of
really on you. I forget the first fight I saw.

Speaker 2 (28:50):
Him, and but it was it was during the rona
when there were no crowds, and god, I wish I
remember who he thought? Ye he he just dominated, you know,
beginning to end. I thought the guys skill were on point.
So I thought, oh, he's gonna fight like a fighter
that people are gonna come out to see in my town.
That's great. But it was in the neighborhood who I
actually went to see Canelo versus Kayla plant at the

(29:11):
neighborhood with with their producer your Bari and also two
of our white friends, Adam and Brent. Shot at y'all,
and I set them down and I was like, if
anybody asks you you are routine for Canelo, do not
say anything different. Don't say I don't know, I don't care,
say Canelo. And they were like, got you, got you?
So just just to make sure that everybody.

Speaker 3 (29:31):
Was going to say, do you, I got what you
gotta do. I mean, here's the thing. You got lives
about choices right now. If you want problems, and you
can choose problems, but it's probably best to make the
smart decision.

Speaker 2 (29:44):
Sure, and at the end of they always do that,
but especially don't choose problems at the neighborhood.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
Yeah, I mean it feels like I said, I've never
been to Tucson. I've heard stories. I know it's very
big on the University of Arizona. I know a lot
of people love you of a. I know I can
assume when it's boxing time. I can assume what time
it is, so and that makes sense.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
It's a cool town, don't get me wrong. And you
know the the boxing fans come out. There's not a
huge crowd.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
Actually, that Canelo plant fight was wild. You could barely
move in that sports bar.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
It was so packed.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
It's the most packed I've ever seen it and when
he won, the place went so wild, Like my ears
were ringing for hours afterwards.

Speaker 3 (30:27):
But it was closet fight. It wasn't like it was
gonna be hot. You know, it wasn't gonna be a
situation where he almost lost. It was gonna be what
it was gonna be.

Speaker 2 (30:34):
It doesn't matter. We saw him knock plant out and
it was exciting as how. There was this one there
was this one circular booth that probably sat like ten people,
and there were easily thirty people sitting in and around
on the go the ledge there. It was wild and
you know, bottle service left and right.

Speaker 3 (30:56):
Uh, it was.

Speaker 2 (30:58):
It was a good time. We our producer to Brian Davis,
will tell you we had a great time. And then
everybody was well behaved. Another another story about the Neighborhood.
After another Canalo fight, I was talking to uh to
a dude in a boxing class, but actually he asked
me if I saw the fight, and I said, yeah,
I went to this sports bar in the ghetto. It's

(31:18):
called the Neighborhood. It's on thirty six. He cuts me
off and he says, I used to.

Speaker 3 (31:22):
Be a cop.

Speaker 2 (31:22):
I know exactly where the neighborhood is oh okay, So
that's just But they make Austome meach a lot as
Austin margaritas.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
So and how the food, how the food house, the specials.

Speaker 2 (31:34):
Like all the the food is probably the best bar
food you're gonna get.

Speaker 3 (31:40):
You know.

Speaker 2 (31:40):
They have maybe sat wings on Tuesdays, they have giant margaritas.

Speaker 3 (31:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (31:44):
Man, I can't say enough good things about the place.
But just just chill, you know, go there to have
a good time and just don't start any trouble. That's
all I'll say.

Speaker 3 (31:52):
Fair enough, fair enough.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
So yeah, but anyway, back to back to Saturday. You know,
I love I got about this. Like I said, he's
a hometown hero. I'm rooting for him to have a
great fight. But he's a warrior man. He puts it
all on the line, I don't. I think if he
loses again, it's not going to be because he coasted.
It's not going to be because he didn't put it
all out there. So and I think I think that's

(32:17):
what really where the respect comes from for that guy.
You know, he he doesn't back down, he doesn't shy away,
doesn't run. He is there for a war. And I'm
expecting to have a great time. Plus it's could be
a shitload of drug Mexicans, including this one. So tune
in to ESPN Saturday night. Maybe you'll see me getting

(32:37):
kicked out getting eighty six from the Footprint Center. I
don't know, I will do it.

Speaker 3 (32:45):
You could. You can't do that, now, that's true. You're right.

Speaker 2 (32:48):
I'm a I'm a responsible sports commentator.

Speaker 3 (32:50):
Now yeah do that now, so got some sense and
make it happen.

Speaker 2 (32:54):
But yeah, but definitely I recommend you watch that fight.
Like I said, regularly, I say ESPN on Saturday night,
check it out. And the other fights on the main
card are gonna be exciting as well. So definitely, I
can't wait. I can't wait for this weekend and I
can't wait to talk about it when we get back
to our next episode.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
Nice, nice, very and I can't wait. I can't wait.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
So shall we move on to the next segment. This
is our recurring pop Pugilism segment, in which we discuss
a boxing movie, TV show, documentary whatever it is. Oh
and jameson, I've already heard from a listener that she
learned what the word pugilism means from listening to this show.

Speaker 3 (33:30):
Oh wow.

Speaker 2 (33:31):
Yeah. Again, we're not just doing this, We're not only
doing this for the bag, which we are, but we're
also here to make a difference in people's lives and
educate our listeners.

Speaker 3 (33:38):
So say T words, ain't it so? Yeah? You got yeah?
Nah it sounds like T I like, yeah, nope, nope.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
So for today's entry, I have a question. Have you
ever tried to go online to watch a movie and
then realize a few minutes after you start watching it
that you downloaded the wrong file? Maybe it's a movie
with a similar lame or possibly the porno parody.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
Fortunately it happens more often than I had like me too,
like a couple times a week, come from the movie. Also,
when you download movies and watch torrents all that, sometimes
you download one thing, he gets something else. So like
you watch somef early like friends, it's all fire sticks
and stuff. Sometimes you can get ready to get a
link and it ain't what you won't like. It's totally
different and you not sometimes a little way too different,

(34:23):
if you know what I'm saying. And that's not that's
an away game. We do not do those.

Speaker 2 (34:27):
It's a risk we take in this life. Yeah, but yeah,
that's kind of what happened to me. This week. I
try to watch Gladiator from two thousand starring Russell Crowe.
It's becoming popular again because the sequel has been crushing
it at the box office last weekend. But it turns
out there's a whole ass other movie called Gladiator from
nineteen eighty two, and it's about boxing. Did you know
have you have you heard of this?

Speaker 3 (34:45):
I've heard of the movie, I've not seen it. I've
heard of the movie.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
Well, we're gonna talk about it because it's directed by
Rowdy Harrington, who also directed Roadhouse, which is one of
the coolest movies ever made. So I was actually excited
about this one. I was calling him Rowdy Roddy Harrington
the whole time. So it starts this guy named James
James Marshall, who I'd never heard of. I haven't seen
Twin Peaks, but apparently he's an important part of that show.
He looks almost exactly like a baby Dolph Lungdren or

(35:12):
a skinny Brian Bosworth.

Speaker 3 (35:14):
Wow, that's a name.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
Remember the bass?

Speaker 3 (35:16):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (35:16):
Do you have you seen Stone Cold one? Have you
seen the bass action movie called Stone Cold nineteen ninety one,
he goes undercover in a biker gang.

Speaker 3 (35:29):
No, no, I'm not.

Speaker 2 (35:31):
That is a five star action movie.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
I gotta tell you.

Speaker 2 (35:35):
It is the crazy one of the craziest action movies
I've ever seen and record. We're not talking about that movie,
but strong recommend on Stone Cold starring Brian Bosworth. Please
check it out. Make sure to download the right Stone
Cold file and you know, and end up with some records.

Speaker 3 (35:51):
Yeah, man, Like I say, it's very important that you
make sure. Yeah, because your thing, you can intend to
download the right thing. You just have no idea what's
in that file. That's the big issue I have is
my intentions are always good. It's the other people's intentions
that create this out. That's the problem.

Speaker 2 (36:09):
You know what makes me think of I'm never as
anxious during those first five seconds when I don't know
if I'm going to be listening to wear Wolves of
London or kid fucking rock Man. You know what I'm
talking about?

Speaker 3 (36:21):
That bad Sometimes you'll click on something it is not
which you want to see, and you don't want to
see certain things. I'll leave it at that. And sometimes
your intentions are pure. Sometimes just for the movie you
intended and somebody's trying to play games with you. I
don't like those kind of games.

Speaker 2 (36:39):
Well, in this one, you're either going to get Russell
Crowe or James Marshall and Cuba Gooding Jr.

Speaker 3 (36:44):
So those are good actors. Those are solid line up.

Speaker 2 (36:47):
No Cuba Gooding Junior. For some reason, he plays a
character named Abraham Lincoln Hayes. I don't know what that's about,
but the story is so. James Marshall is Tommy Riley.
He's supposed to be a teenager in high school, but
he looks thirty five. One of the least believable teenagers
I've seen in my life. He moves to the South
side of Chicago from a nice area to like a

(37:08):
black and brown school right because his dad, who is
Kevin's dad from home alone, John Hurd, he gets into
some serious gambling debts. Speaking of the degenerate life, the
movie tells us his dad owes fifteen thousand dollars in
nineteen ninety two money to car Dricks.

Speaker 3 (37:24):
That's a lot.

Speaker 2 (37:25):
That's probably like seventy five bands today.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
I like that a lot. How does that have definitely dying? Well, yeah,
it's not so.

Speaker 2 (37:31):
The kid Tommy Riley. He gets recruited into an illegal
underground boxing circuit by Robert Loje, who sees him fending
off some gang members in Nelly. Timmy needs to help
pay his degenerate dad's loan, so he agrees to find
one match. But he's so good that evil Brian Denahey,
who runs the operation, buys his dad's debts, forces Tommy
to pay them off by fighting, and Cuba is a

(37:54):
friend of his from school who also fights in the circuit,
and drama ensues.

Speaker 3 (37:58):
Got it.

Speaker 2 (37:59):
So the movie is not good let's start there, but
it is pretty fun. I gotta tell you. You know,
the fights in the movie look kind of terrible. They
everyone just kind of throws swinging hooks and nobody remembers
to keep their damn hands up. It's like, do you
remember end of Karate Kid Part two when Daniel beats
Chosen with a drum technique which is just leugh punch
and a right punch over and over and like for

(38:19):
some reason, Chosen doesn't think to block, dodge, or counter right.
So that's basically how people win those boxing matches.

Speaker 3 (38:27):
Also, fifteen ran in ninety two is now thirty three
thousand seven hundred and forty eight dollars a two cents.
Do not forget the eighty two cents in today's money.

Speaker 2 (38:37):
That's actually a less than I thought, to be quite honest,
SA same, I thought it would be at least double that.
But that's how deep in the hole John Hurd.

Speaker 3 (38:46):
Is in this movie.

Speaker 2 (38:48):
But I think the biggest travesty in this in this
dumb movie, is that it thinks it's saying something about
race relations. So Robert Loja needs James Marshall to fight
and says explicitly that he needs a white fighter because
this last white guy you know, got injured or whatever.
James Marshall and Cuba bond with each other. In Cuba
says something like poverty is a black disease and James
Marshall is all dope on it, as if they're both

(39:10):
victims of a capital system built on systemic racism, and
not the fact that John Hurd, from home alone, doesn't
know when to get help for his gambling addiction. I
think the movie wants you to think it wants to
invoke some sort of like racial harmony by showing that
both white and black people could be taken advantage of
by the rich and corrupt, which is true, don't get
me wrong, but this is like kids bop race relations

(39:31):
and it's just not the right movie for that kind
of message. Fair enough, but it is fun. You know,
the fights are not super well choreographed, but they're still
pretty brutal. And if you're looking for a movie with
dudes just kidding fucked up, real good, this movie does
have that.

Speaker 3 (39:48):
Did it age well? It aged better than.

Speaker 2 (39:51):
Most things from that era. I'm gonna say that right now.
There's not a lot of you know, racial slurs. There's
not a lot of you know, there's race relations in
the movie, but it's not overtly racist. I think it's
more like racially ignorant, you know, points for it for
trying something like this and saying, you know, poverty affects black, white,

(40:14):
and brown people the same. You know, it's a kind
of disease. But like I said, not this movie, man,
not this movie.

Speaker 3 (40:20):
But it's fun.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
And you know, I'm I've said before, I'm a movie buff.
I love films, I love going to the theater. I
hate do hate to be that guy. But when it
comes to action movies, they really don't make them like
they used to. So too much CGI these days, not
enough stunts. You know, at the very least you know
you've got stunt guys getting tossed around. And also you
know what really aged well, Big fat Brian Dennehy uppercuts

(40:45):
someone so hard they fly over the ropes and out
of the rig. That aged well. So so yeah, I'd
say overall this movie is like out of four Gloves,
which is our rating that we do here, like two
and a half, two and a half cloffs, not bad,
not bad. So yeah. So if you after you watch

(41:06):
Russell Crowe and watch Paul mescal and Gladiator two, why
don't you watch a third Gladiator and check out this
one from Roddy Harrington.

Speaker 3 (41:15):
That works, That works awesome.

Speaker 2 (41:18):
So last segment, ready for this, yep, it's our mailbag segment.
So I got a question here from Adam l Adam,
thank you for writing. Don't worry, nobody's taking an l
on this show today. The question is how much money
would you need to be paid to get into the

(41:39):
ring with your favorite fighter? And this one was easy
for me. I got an I came up with an
answer right away.

Speaker 3 (41:44):
But I mean getting the ring to do what like
to fight like? And we're talking about a flow around fight.

Speaker 2 (41:50):
That you have and you have Let's say, let's say
this favorite living fighter, so you can pick any living
fighter that that's your fave. Uh So it can be
somebody who's really head gear involved. Yes, because you're an
amateur headgears involved. Let's call it five rounds, five rounds.

(42:10):
You name your bag five rounds as my friend, nothing,
you're not no amount of money, we'll get you in
the ring.

Speaker 3 (42:16):
I'll get in the ring. What I'm saying, five rounds
is a long time. Five three minute rounds is a
long time.

Speaker 2 (42:20):
It is, it really is. Yeah, But if you want
to get paid that bag, which by the way you choose,
you gotta try. You don't just sit there, you know,
get like a light jab in the face and then
just go down.

Speaker 3 (42:30):
I mean I would. I would fight Floyd because I
know he's he's gonna carry the fight. But I know
how it's opera, I know how this goes. I'm not
gonna get in the ring with someone that can do
that can put me in a r I'm gonna go
with Floor because we're both gonna understand the situation. So
I'm gonna take a couple million dollars, and I'm gonna
go on and do what we gotta do and enjoy

(42:51):
life happily and after.

Speaker 2 (42:53):
But how much exactly do you need to get into
the ring with floor?

Speaker 3 (42:57):
Oh, I need two million out of taxes off everything.
Make sure taxes are cool, make sure moms is cool,
make sure pops. Yeah, I need like two million after
taxes that take care everybody. I can be out the
way and we go on about life. You know, we
enjoy life the way it's supposed to be enjoyed.

Speaker 2 (43:14):
That's actually surprid. I would have thought you'd said like
five for even ten.

Speaker 3 (43:17):
You know, you're not.

Speaker 2 (43:18):
You're not agreed, so.

Speaker 3 (43:19):
Like taxes while you're looking at like closer to four.
So you know, so we we closed that one. Again.
It's Floyd though, so again I'm not even though he's
obviously the punches are gonna hurt, it's nowhere near like
getting in Well. I would never fight Tank, Yeah, arm Taelo.
That's dumb, like that's that's that's not what we signed
up for. This is a this thing, money making situation.

(43:41):
This is not a fight to prove who's the pregnant.
So I would pick somebody that hits light and Floyd
is my favorite living fighter, So that's what we would do.
And then yeah, that's how that's how it would go.

Speaker 2 (43:54):
That's a good answer. Well my answer that I came
up with. And I am a dumb person. So I
would need three million dollars to get into the ring
with Canelo like tomorrow, and I'll tell you why. So
first of all, I know I would die in the ring.
I would go out in the blaze of glory, which
I'm fine with. And then my mom and two sisters
each get a million dollars and I'm cool with that
any I'm cool after taxes, of course, So what are

(44:16):
we looking at? Like bag is five? But leave those
million dollars to my mom and two sisters and I'll
be that guys like did you see that fact guy
get in the ring with Canelo and then got his
knocked off on his shoulders like John Rambo. Right, right,
So that's what it would take for me to get
into the ring last year tomorrow. No training, I don't
give a show.

Speaker 3 (44:35):
I'll try.

Speaker 2 (44:36):
I'll try, I'll you know, I'll try to bob and
weave and throw some some light punches. But right, but
we know how that's gonna turn out. Yeah, it's not
gonna work, but mom and sisters are gonna be taken
care of and that's all that matters, all right, Jameson,
