Speaker 1 (00:00):
Billy, we are celebrating gay Pride this month. Happy Pride
to you, my friend.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Thank you love.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
What does gay Pride mean to you, Billy Porter?
Speaker 2 (00:09):
You know I entered the gay pride space during the
Eighth Crisis. So Pride has always been about protests and
about community. And you know, for a while the protest
part of Pride sort of was muted.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
We didn't need it as much. We need it again.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
You know, it's a very mobilizing time and I'm excited
this year because everybody's fired up.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Billy Porter. I just love you for being you. How
do you remain authentic?
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Well, I'm fifty three years old.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
You know, you live a little and you learn that
there's no other version of yourself but yourself. I mean,
that's really the truth of it. I wasn't always like this.
I had to get to this. That's age. With age comes.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Wisdom, indeed, and you are definitely out here getting it.
I wanted to talk about your music the tour. Your
latest singles, Baby was a Dancer in Fashion is one
of the mini songs you will perform.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Live at the net in Philly tonight. Billy give Me
All the Tea.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
On both singles and what can fans expect from the
Black Mona Lisa Tour.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Okay, so the Black.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Mona Lisa Tour of All You Want is a name
taken from my new upcoming album coming out in September.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
It's called Black Mona Lisa.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Now, the tour is a celebration flight of love, of hope,
of joy, of peace.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
I hope it can be healing. It can start the
process of healing from this collective trauma we've all been
in the middle of.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Now, as far as the show is concerned, you know,
I'm doing ten new songs from the album, and then
it's also a retrospective.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Because there seems to be a little confusion. Oh, let's
clear it up. You're knowing some clarity to the children.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
You know, I need the clarity for the children because
you know, it's like I spent the first twenty five
years of.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
My career trying to get the gatekeepers of.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
The acting side of things to take me seriously as
an actor. And now ironic that has happened, and folks
are like, oh, I didn't know Gray tal kits sing.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Oh what is he going to be doing? It's weird.
It's weird. So people I'm there to sing my movie office.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
I'm fronting a band, my band for the first time
in at least six or seven years. It is a
pop music, rock concert, and because I'm a storyteller, it
is a retrospective of my life and career so people
can understand. So I take care of my audience in
whatever space they got onto the Billy Barter train, you know,
(02:30):
because I'm multi hypo, Yes you want, and I do
a lot of stuff, so you know, I don't want there.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
To be any more confusion, none at all. This is
where it stops and ends.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Yes, sir,
