Speaker 1 (00:01):
Some films aren't just movies. Their memories, milestones and moments
that live rent free in our minds, in our hearts.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
We'll talk about it.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
In the moment, Danny, it's the Neighbors podcast, will be
some Mike. Theyre discausing different issues that affect us, treat
something like that. It's the neighbors who wait, the Neighbors.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Yeah, yeah, So I have a question for y'all.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
What movie takes you right back to a time, a place,
or a feeling you ever or you'll never.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Want to or we'll forget. Oh that's the easy one
for me. What is that My house party, house party?
Speaker 4 (00:51):
The first one.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
That is wild house party, wild mad.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Because remind me of the good old basement party ak
rent parties.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
Back in the day. You know, go to school, you
don't eat lunch for the whole day.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
You save your dollar and hopefully your ass don't get
on punishment.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Look, it is what it is, yea, yeah, it is
what it is. I mean what that was a That
was a good movie. Yes, that was a good movie.
Uh I think, uh that is a classic. That's a
true classic. And it's funny because no one talks about.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
That movie like that anymore, though not anymore.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
That's interesting. I just you know, you just wonder.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Why as popular as that movie was, like they don't
they really don't talk about it.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
That's interesting.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
I mean it's I mean, the way that movie was
is like that's how it really was.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Yeah yeah, yeah, say right.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
And you know.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
After that, what my next world my guess would be
on that channel would.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
Be, uh probably uh, school days.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
I was gonna say school days because the next that's
the next iur. I would probably say for me, like
listen to what you're saying, I would probably even say
school days will be first, because I think only because
of the song, like it just blew it up, you
know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (02:31):
You know that that if y'all don't know.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
What we're talking about, the song was doing the button
right and so that one, Like listen, y'all, my mom
will not allow me to see the movie originally because
of that stupid song. No, yeah, it's the it's the song,
you know, it's yeah, it's it's not wholesome and see
(03:00):
that until long for a long time. Wow, Yeah, yeah,
I need to see it. What when did that?
Speaker 2 (03:06):
When did that come out?
Speaker 4 (03:07):
When did that come out?
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Because for me I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
I might had to tell y'all how old I really am.
No comment, no me, okay, So that was in nineteen
eighty eight. Oh so in nineteen eighty eight, I was
only getting out of sixth grade.
Speaker 5 (03:29):
Yeah, I graduated at middle school in nineteen ninety, so
I wasn't.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Bike.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
It's kind of bright in here.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
So now you understand why it came out released a
Ferrade of twelve.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Nineteen eighty eight.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
That was a good year.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
So so yeah, so for me, I was, I was.
I was that June. I graduated from sixth grade.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
I don't remember about me.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
So so now for those of you who might be wondering, like.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Why couldn't you say it, Yes, that's the reason why.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
Yes, it's a good reason why.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yeah. You know.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
There was another movie, Spike Lee. Movie I didn't see
until later on. It was in black and white. What
was that movie? Yeah, shoot, y'all. Then I didn't realize,
what is it?
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Nina? Not Nina? What alright?
Speaker 1 (04:50):
We weill had to come back to that it was
but it was him. It was it was.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
When he and this other guy.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
I was going back and forth about this young lady,
and I want to.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Say the lady was his sister.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
Who actually did was in the movie, but it was
one of she's got to have it, She's got to
have it.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
That was the name of the movie.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
That was in black and white.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Yeah, it was in black and white. Yeah, that was
in black and white. Yeah, it was filming the black
and white Okay, okay, And so uh again that's another
movie I didn't see until later on, and then I
started like.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Yo, so that's what people were talking about when we
was in high school, you know.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
But again that's something that for me, I was still
I mean that was in eighty six, so I would
have been in fourth grade.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
So yeah, I still wouldn't have seen that. Sorry to
hear that.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
So you know, so those those are that was a
good That was a good choice though my I mean
that that especially school days, especially later on, and for
that time I did want to see Like I couldn't
see Breaking, I couldn't see Beach Streak because they were
all around the same time. What I did see that
(06:19):
was probably just a little bit later when I went
to go see it was It wasn't Juice. There's another
one of the classics. Why I'm drawing a blank Wesley snipes.
What Nino Nino Brown? You're talking about?
Speaker 2 (06:46):
What is the name of the movie?
Speaker 4 (06:48):
Just on the tip of my tongue, I.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Know, right, I'm sorry, y'all, I got I don't know
why we we are drawing such a blank?
Speaker 2 (06:58):
What is the name of the movie? Oh? Man, y'all
like Chris rock in it?
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Shoot, yo, y'all, we are really having I guess we
haven't seen your movements right now. Jackson City, New Jack City,
and so New Jack City was probably the very first
movie that I saw.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Where it probably changed my perspective on movies.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
It came out in ninety one, so by the time
I was I was in high school then, so I
was able to see. But the one line that that really,
like if I had to say, if there was a
line ever in a movie, when she said rock.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Abot, like oh yeah, yeah, yo, that was That was
the toughest line for me. Like, I just like that.
That that just changed.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
Everything, right, right, yeah, you.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Get what I mean? Like that that was yeah, I
just uh from there.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
It's kind of like people were saying that in school
and you know, saying that to my friends and whatever,
Like it was just yeah, that was just that one
line that everybody just kind of hopped on.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
Well what well, you know, you was a little chat back.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
I was, I was, I was, you know, and I'm
okay with that. I'm okay with you. I'm okay with
I was in tenth grade in ninety one. I was
getting I was growing up, growing up in the world. Yeah,
I see, yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Other def grades.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
So you know, I saw that, and actually and in
that I don't even know my mom even though I
saw it, because I didn't see it with her.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
That's all with my friends.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
But you told your mom you was going to the
matinee to see bugs Bunny or something.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
No, she just knew.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
No, No, this friends she knew that because they were
just a little bit older than me, not a little bit.
The guy that I would was always with people that
was older than me. The one guy I was with
at that particular time, he was about six years Okay,
so if I'm fifteen, he's already twenty one, gotcha, you
get what I'm saying. So, so we would go to
(09:19):
the movies with him and some other guy. It was
a whole bunch of us and uh, and so we
would hang out and go to block parties and all that.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
Type of stuff.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
So yeah, when I when we went and saw that
that summer, when did it come out? Actually we saw
in ninety the summer ninety one or the fall ninety one, I.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
Know it was it was still relatively warm.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
I think when we saw it, I want to say,
and yeah, but that was that was crazy.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
That that movie was crazy?
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Think what the hecku I was doing in ninety one?
I'm sorry, Mike, watch it ton.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
One. That was a good year too.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Yeah, that that that was a that was a oh
you know.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
What that was the year a lot of blockbuster movies
came out.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Yeah, it was a lot. Yeah, but that one line
rockerby rock Up Bobby.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
You know, that was.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
Now there's been other movies that that made a impression,
you know. But but also at that time too, Wesley
Snice was at his you know, he was, yeah, he
was gaining some momentum. So you know, after that, you
kind of got all the Blade movies and stuff.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
What you're going on too? Oh man, I just seen
the movie yesterday to Dark on the Shoot, you know,
And so.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
You know, I want to say that that probably as uh,
I think at that time you had New Jersey Drive.
I think that came out around that same time. Okay,
when when did Baby Boy come come out?
Speaker 4 (11:13):
That album? I'm lost on that.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
Yeah you know, so yeah man, but that was the
one that because I guess that was my my introduction
into watching other movies. Boys in the Hood I think
was around that time. Don't Drink Your what was it
(11:38):
drinking your Juice in the Hood. I can't think of
the name of it. Yeah, I'm really having some No, no,
the the oh.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Shoot, you're talking about the comedy joy No no, no, no,
no no.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Yeah, I know, the comedy one with the Wayne's brothers.
But the real version of that movie. Oh, I can't
think of the name of it, the original movie. But yeah, man,
I mean there's a lot of a lot of movies
that really at that time frame for me, that made
(12:11):
me start thinking and rethinking how life looks like and
how it feels like. Right, you know, and you start
to understand like, yo, I get to see because because
you know before that it's like Disney stuff or whatever,
and then you get to see really like, yo, this is.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
How I live, like what my hood feels like for real. Yeah,
it changes your perspective.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
That's why I say the movie was like, you know,
school days and house party. It definitely related to me
back then, becau especially our school days. I humble cats
that we know went to college Lincoln Cheney and all that, right,
and you know, hanging out with them cats, you know,
(12:55):
you know, the Greek picnics and all. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
good time, good fo and something that's now that she
said that, you know.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
So for those of y'all who know that, I grew
up in West Philly, but I went to church in
North Philly, and so I had a little bit of
both going on. So I grew up at fifty second
and Haverford and I went to church at twentieth in Diamond,
so imagine, you know, you know, so.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
I was in the hood both ways. Ways, But.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
So we would come home from church during the summertime,
and because I went to church with my grandmam, and
so when we.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
Were coming through the park.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
I can't remember that name of that strip, but it's
it's really on the other side of uh not Limit Hill,
the belt, my plateau on the back end where they
used to have everybody posted up with the motorcycles.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, down that long.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Stretch where they used to drag and all that type
of stuff. Like you know, so when y'all listen to
Will Smith Summertime, Yo, that's how it was. Like that
was real life and you know with the music and yeah,
and so now imagine going through.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
That in my age. I'm young, and I'm like, yo,
that's what you know.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
So so unfortunately you look at that, and then you
look at those other type of movies, like I said,
like New Jersey Drive or whatever. You're like, yo, like
you know, I want to be a part of that life,
you you know. But then as you get older, you realize,
like yo, that that's not sustainable, right, some of that
stuff is not sustainable. And but but those things, you know,
(14:47):
when you look at it, you're like, hey, you know,
can I how can I make money?
Speaker 2 (14:52):
How can I sustain a life like that? How can
I get into a big house?
Speaker 1 (14:55):
How can I have these you know, beautiful big beautiful cars?
You know, you know, And so unfortunately you get influenced
by that type of line you get what I mean, Rockabye,
you know whatever, or that type of movie. Now y'all
have heard me talk about Let's do It Again with
(15:17):
Bill Cosby and Sidney Potier.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
I mean brother you know, oh yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
You know bootees forums were like, so now another movie
that and they actually got another part coming out to
that now.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
Part two is Happy Gilmore.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
Oh yeah, yeah, that's.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
That's my that's my other movie right now.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
Like that that is anytime I do because because I
also said something about you know things that you quote, right,
And so for me, anytime I go play miniature golf
and I miss a whole, I'd be like, have you
give them a go home ball?
Speaker 4 (15:58):
Go home?
Speaker 2 (15:59):
That's how I like every every single time.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
That's crazy. I ain't do that. I mean, you know
what then again, I mean I was never a miniature
golf person when I was younger.
Speaker 4 (16:13):
But uh, I mean it's all right.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
I'm like, look, man, it's kind of hard to put
putting that bone that little ass old right right right,
he's man pleased that guy. That game is not easy.
It's not easy at all.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
It's not And that and Happy Gilmore came out in
ninety six. Dag it's been that long ninety six. Wait
a minute, that was the year with all the blockbuster movies.
Ninety six was that's when Independence Day came out. Uh, eraser,
(16:49):
you know on matter in fact Independence came out, and Men.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
In Black quite a few other jaws that came out,
Holy smooths.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
Yeah, No, I mean I'm looking I'm looking it up.
Yeah man, I mean races did come out? That came out?
Speaker 3 (17:11):
Yeah, that's what back then? You know, the drivings, the
driving right right right?
Speaker 4 (17:17):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (17:18):
Man, miss them Day's boy.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
Yoh you know so so I really want to.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Know about y'all, like what movie changed your life and
made you look at life differently? Yeah, cause I gave
y'all my experience and Mike said, hey, you know.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
You know that that that movie that that me and
him thinking about some some.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
Beautiful right uh black light parties, yo, Man, I used.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
To hate being no punishment on it in trouble like
back then with me, Friday was the house parties and
Saturday was the block parties. Now go ahead and do
something stupid, get on punishment. I was at the back
that I was like, look, please, please whoop my behind,
please beat me. I'd rather get a beatn sitt in
(18:13):
the house all weekend. I was praying for that, praying
for that. Yeah, you're looking after you look like you're
up still looking at the window like a little dog.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
Right, yeah, Now, what.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
Are you talking about? Blockbusters? Where do you think about
Independence Day? When they came out, was all right, it
was all right, you know, and and that was something
it was a for me, it was it was a surprise.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
Well, okay, I didn't I did not expect for it
to hit like that. It hit hard, It hit hard,
it hit hard, you know. And that was like a
big step up him for will Smith when he came out,
came out due hard. I mean we actually I went
on a date, went to the movie theaters.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
See that. I'm like, wow, yeah, so wow. Yeah. I
got it on the got old Blu ray.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
And for those of you who I mean, because I
have it on Blue Ray but also have that, it's
only because they made a deal out of it.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
But I have on Fandango at home too. Oh okay,
that's because they packaged it with part two. Right, Okay, gotcha, gotcha?
I mean part two. Right, I'll be to understand why
he couldn't make it part two with him, But yeah,
part two it is like it was too.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
Yeah two.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
Where can I say this? They really had the same
impact as the first one. Let's just say that.
Speaker 1 (19:37):
Yeah, I mean even when now if you think back
to about Bad Boys, right, oh, well.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
That was another one that was a good movie.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
Right, But I'm not sure if I'm feeling it like
now they keep making more and more of them.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Right now, I'm not feeling that as much.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
I'm kind of digging it. But you gotta look at
it like that. It's like they get older.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
Yeah, I mean, you know it.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
Just yes, I got all four of my collection, but
you know it just it just it's that pattern, just
like you know the Fast in the Furious franchise. That's well,
but they're about to make the final one that yeah,
to find their family in to finally family something. Yeah,
because you know what happened what you call them.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
So look dude, I mean I mean but see even
with that, for me, I was into probably the first
four maybe five, and that's pushing it. But then after that,
like when they started flying and you know, yeah, it
was just some other stuff just like that's unrealistic. Well,
they just they kept trying to, you know, beat themselves,
(20:47):
you know what I mean. But it's like, yo, you
can't do it, like right, you know, if you could
just keep your car on the ground, right.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (20:57):
But you know they had to change the format. Ain't up,
but you know, it is what it is on that channel.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
And then I understand y'all trying to bring in some
other legitimate names to make them villains or whatever else
being in the rock. And then Jason Stantham I believe
that's his name. You know, I understand y'all was trying
to do something else, but yeah, it's a reach.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
Yeah, especially where was that care I forgot this? Now
he was a wrestler too, the other guy I played.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
That oh when.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
I don't know if he was a wrestler, but he's
a wrestler. He started getting acting too. He was in
Daddy's Home one then two.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
Oh, John Cena that's his name. I think it was
John Cena. Okay, okay, I mean but even when they
had Momoa in there, Jason Momoa. Okay, you know, like
all right, it kind of makes sense, but yeah, there's
just some things, man, it's just kind of like, I'm
not so I so after really, after the fifth one,
(22:02):
I really couldn't tell you who's in the movies or not,
you know, and all honestly I don't.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
I don't know him like that.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
Well, they started off okay, yeah, because because you know,
especially if you're a car person, right, you know what
I mean? Yeah, yeah, you know you're like, let me
see what y'all got going on, and sometimes you kind
of wonder, like Yo, when they went to Tokyo where
bow Wow, the one that bow Wow was in you're.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
Talking about, Yeah, Tokyo Drift.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
You're right, yeah, you know, it's like, all right, does
that kind of make sense again, that's still part of
that car.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
It's to part up, you know. But it's like.
Speaker 3 (22:37):
It's like it's like a pattern, like, well, Jason, well
what you're going first? It's crazy where they broke up,
they would have had to go what you went back
to Japan?
Speaker 4 (22:49):
Yeah, Tokyo, Japan?
Speaker 3 (22:51):
And uh she Jason pulled up killing you know, it's
like you got to pay attention.
Speaker 4 (22:56):
What's going on? Yeah, you know, it's like what what
what did he die? He's back?
Speaker 2 (23:02):
What? Right?
Speaker 4 (23:04):
What happened? I mean, I don't know?
Speaker 2 (23:06):
Manyah.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
I mean like you said the first George, yeah, all right, man,
after a certain plant like yeah, okay, right, just like
with house party after the second one.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
Come on, yeah yeah, I mean is let it go? Right?
Speaker 4 (23:19):
Please? Let it go?
Speaker 1 (23:20):
So so y'all, won't you tell us what your thoughts are?
How are you feeling about all this? And what's your
favorite movie and or your favorite quote? Let us know,
share it with us, please do? We were Yeah, I mean,
because I got that. There's one person that I know
that can quote all day every day, my brother Michael.
For those of y'all know my brother, he almost his
(23:42):
whole life is nothing but quotes.
Speaker 4 (23:44):
Oh daln.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
He always got a quote from some movie to respond
to what you got to say, it's a quote to it. Wow,
Like that's how That's how I'm like, dude, like, how
do you Why do you just remember all that?
Speaker 4 (23:57):
How about that?
Speaker 2 (23:58):
Can you remember how to tie your shoe? Like?
Speaker 4 (24:01):
Stay?
Speaker 2 (24:05):
I mean that's a joke though, trust me, he could
tie his shoe. But you know. But what I'm trying
to say though, like you know, but.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
Y'all, but you know, but let us know what your
thoughts are. Please do and we'll talk to you all
little later.
