that that especially school days, especially later on, and for
that time I did want to see Like I couldn't
see Breaking, I couldn't see Beach Streak because they were
all around the same time. What I did see that

movie that I saw.

It came out in ninety one, so by the time
I was I was in high school then, so I
was able to see. But the one line that that really,
like if I had to say, if there was a
line ever in a movie, when she said rock.

the toughest line for me. Like, I just like that.
That that just changed.

The guy that I would was always with people that
was older than me. The one guy I was with
at that particular time, he was about six years Okay,
so if I'm fifteen, he's already twenty one, gotcha, you
get what I'm saying. So, so we would go to

the movies with him and some other guy. It was
a whole bunch of us and uh, and so we
would hang out and go to block parties and all that.

So yeah, when I when we went and saw that
that summer, when did it come out? Actually we saw
in ninety the summer ninety one or the fall ninety one, I.

I think when we saw it, I want to say,
and yeah, but that was that was crazy.

Now there's been other movies that that made a impression,
you know. But but also at that time too, Wesley
Snice was at his you know, he was, yeah, he
was gaining some momentum. So you know, after that, you
kind of got all the Blade movies and stuff.

the movie yesterday to Dark on the Shoot, you know,
And so.

You know, I want to say that that probably as uh,
I think at that time you had New Jersey Drive.
I think that came out around that same time. Okay,
when when did Baby Boy come come out?

Yeah you know, so yeah man, but that was the
one that because I guess that was my my introduction
into watching other movies. Boys in the Hood I think
was around that time. Don't Drink Your what was it

drinking your Juice in the Hood. I can't think of
the name of it. Yeah, I'm really having some No, no,
the the oh.

Shoot, you're talking about the comedy joy No no, no, no,

Yeah, I know, the comedy one with the Wayne's brothers.
But the real version of that movie. Oh, I can't
think of the name of it, the original movie. But yeah, man,
I mean there's a lot of a lot of movies
that really at that time frame for me, that made

me start thinking and rethinking how life looks like and
how it feels like. Right, you know, and you start
to understand like, yo, I get to see because because
you know before that it's like Disney stuff or whatever,
and then you get to see really like, yo, this is.

How I live, like what my hood feels like for real. Yeah,
it changes your perspective.

That's why I say the movie was like, you know,
school days and house party. It definitely related to me
back then, becau especially our school days. I humble cats
that we know went to college Lincoln Cheney and all that, right,
and you know, hanging out with them cats, you know,

you know, the Greek picnics and all. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
good time, good fo and something that's now that she
said that, you know.

So for those of y'all who know that, I grew
up in West Philly, but I went to church in
North Philly, and so I had a little bit of
both going on. So I grew up at fifty second
and Haverford and I went to church at twentieth in Diamond,
so imagine, you know, you know, so.

I was in the hood both ways. Ways, But.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
So we would come home from church during the summertime,
and because I went to church with my grandmam, and
so when we.

Were coming through the park.

I can't remember that name of that strip, but it's
it's really on the other side of uh not Limit Hill,
the belt, my plateau on the back end where they
used to have everybody posted up with the motorcycles.

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, down that long.

Stretch where they used to drag and all that type
of stuff. Like you know, so when y'all listen to
Will Smith Summertime, Yo, that's how it was. Like that
was real life and you know with the music and yeah,
and so now imagine going through.

That in my age. I'm young, and I'm like, yo,
that's what you know.

So so unfortunately you look at that, and then you
look at those other type of movies, like I said,
like New Jersey Drive or whatever. You're like, yo, like
you know, I want to be a part of that life,
you you know. But then as you get older, you realize,
like yo, that that's not sustainable, right, some of that
stuff is not sustainable. And but but those things, you know,

when you look at it, you're like, hey, you know,
can I how can I make money?

How can I sustain a life like that? How can
I get into a big house?

How can I have these you know, beautiful big beautiful cars?
You know, you know, And so unfortunately you get influenced
by that type of line you get what I mean, Rockabye,
you know whatever, or that type of movie. Now y'all
have heard me talk about Let's do It Again with

Bill Cosby and Sidney Potier.

I mean brother you know, oh yeah.

You know bootees forums were like, so now another movie
that and they actually got another part coming out to
that now.

with that, for me, I was into probably the first
four maybe five, and that's pushing it. But then after that,
like when they started flying and you know, yeah, it
was just some other stuff just like that's unrealistic. Well,

can't do it, like right, you know, if you could
just keep your car on the ground, right.

the movies with him and some other guy. It was
a whole bunch of us and uh, and so we
would hang out and go to block parties and all that.

So yeah, when I when we went and saw that
that summer, when did it come out? Actually we saw
in ninety the summer ninety one or the fall ninety one, I.

I think when we saw it, I want to say,
and yeah, but that was that was crazy.

was gaining some momentum. So you know, after that, you
kind of got all the Blade movies and stuff.

the movie yesterday to Dark on the Shoot, you know,

You know, I want to say that that probably as uh,
I think at that time you had New Jersey Drive.
I think that came out around that same time. Okay,

Yeah you know, so yeah man, but that was the
one that because I guess that was my my introduction
into watching other movies. Boys in the Hood I think

But the real version of that movie. Oh, I can't
think of the name of it, the original movie. But yeah, man,
I mean there's a lot of a lot of movies
that really at that time frame for me, that made

me start thinking and rethinking how life looks like and
how it feels like. Right, you know, and you start
to understand like, yo, I get to see because because
you know before that it's like Disney stuff or whatever,
and then you get to see really like, yo, this is.

How I live, like what my hood feels like for real. Yeah,
it changes your perspective.

That's why I say the movie was like, you know,
school days and house party. It definitely related to me
back then, becau especially our school days. I humble cats
that we know went to college Lincoln Cheney and all that, right,
and you know, hanging out with them cats, you know,

you know, the Greek picnics and all. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
good time, good fo and something that's now that she
said that, you know.

So for those of y'all who know that, I grew
up in West Philly, but I went to church in
North Philly, and so I had a little bit of
both going on. So I grew up at fifty second
and Haverford and I went to church at twentieth in Diamond,
so imagine, you know, you know, so.

I was in the hood both ways. Ways, But.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
So we would come home from church during the summertime,
and because I went to church with my grandmam, and
so when we.

Were coming through the park.

I can't remember that name of that strip, but it's
it's really on the other side of uh not Limit Hill,
the belt, my plateau on the back end where they
used to have everybody posted up with the motorcycles.

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, down that long.

Stretch where they used to drag and all that type
of stuff. Like you know, so when y'all listen to
Will Smith Summertime, Yo, that's how it was. Like that
was real life and you know with the music and yeah,
and so now imagine going through.

That in my age. I'm young, and I'm like, yo,
that's what you know.

So so unfortunately you look at that, and then you
look at those other type of movies, like I said,
like New Jersey Drive or whatever. You're like, yo, like
you know, I want to be a part of that life,
you you know. But then as you get older, you realize,
like yo, that that's not sustainable, right, some of that
stuff is not sustainable. And but but those things, you know,

when you look at it, you're like, hey, you know,
can I how can I make money?

How can I sustain a life like that? How can
I get into a big house?

How can I have these you know, beautiful big beautiful cars?
You know, you know, And so unfortunately you get influenced
by that type of line you get what I mean, Rockabye,
you know whatever, or that type of movie. Now y'all
have heard me talk about Let's do It Again with

big step up him for will Smith when he came out,
came out due hard. I mean we actually I went
on a date, went to the movie theaters.

got it on the got old Blu ray.

only because they made a deal out of it.

with that, for me, I was into probably the first
four maybe five, and that's pushing it. But then after that,
like when they started flying and you know, yeah, it
was just some other stuff just like that's unrealistic. Well,
