Speaker 1 (00:11):
What is Up Party people? Welcome back to the podcast.
My name is Christine Jennings.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
And I'm ConA Montgomery and.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
This week we are going over the DGPT playoffs disk
Crafts Green Mountain Championship at Smuggler's Notch Resort.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Christina and I just keep having technical difficulties with with
air pods, with with my microphone, so it's just a
little stressful this early in the morning. But other than that,
I'm doing well. I'm ots I'm doing I'm doing well though.
(00:45):
We're in Massachusetts and it is fall, and like I
said once before, but I'm gonna say again, it is
awesome that it is faull. It's my favorite time of year.
The and I, like I said, the day came where
it said it's first day of fall, and all of
a sudden, a bunch of leaves were on the ground.
It was super crispy air, and I had apple cider.
(01:06):
It was wonderful.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Apple cider sounds so good. I'm a pumpkin spice a
lot type person. I'll have like one or two apple
ciders a year, but I'm definitely a pumpkin spice person.
Ohio has been tricking us because a few weeks ago,
it was like fifty in the morning and then seventy
throughout the day, and it was like giving us like
that fall crispy vibe. And then it was like, never mind,
(01:28):
we're gonna be ninety degrees again.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Oh my god.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
So we had a couple of big thunderstorms the last
couple days, so I think that's kind of calmed the
heat down a bit. So I'm excited for that crispy fall.
Feeling like the leaves are already turning. I think the
leaves started turning when it was like fake fall last time.
And then the trees are also confused, so they're a
mix of.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Like green and yellow. They're like, we don't know if
we want to be red yet.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
You're like putting your pants away and then putting taking
them out or putting taking them out, constantly changing the world.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Yeah, that's the love, But you're about the middle.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
You also ran a racist past weekend.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Yeah, So I'll try to make this short.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Because I made a post about where I like explained
like what I've been going through recently. So basically, I
was diagnosed with PCOS in twenty twenty three, and a
lot of people know that when I was diagnosed. Typically
people that have PCOS should not do hit workouts or
anything high intensity because it's not.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Good for cortisol levels.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
To typically pcos people just like have naturally high cortisol levels,
naturally high testosterone and it's just like not good for
the hormones. So I was doing Orange Theory at that time,
and unfortunately I canceled my membership and then I hired
a coach instead, because you should do strength training workouts,
and so the coach helped me through that. And I
(02:58):
missed running because I wouldn't say that I like I'm
obsessively run, like I obsessed with running, Like I don't
run every morning like some people do, but I enjoy
doing it when I'm like in the mood to do it,
you know. And I used to be pretty good at running,
Like I'd run like a seven minute mile back in
the day and it wasn't even that bad like before.
(03:19):
I stopped running a couple of years ago, and so
I was not doing a lot of cardio up until now.
And then over the summer I started seeing a functional practitioner,
which is different from like your normal doctors, and I
started figuring some things out and they started prescribing me,
like different medications for different things that we figured out,
(03:42):
and so I was like, you know what, like I'm
not one hundred percent healed whatsoever. I feel a little
bit better, but like.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Screw it. I've always wanted to do.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
It was actually a five k that I wanted to do,
and I was like, screw it, I'm just going to
sign up for the Air Force Marathon because I know
it always comes around in September in my area.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
So then I signed up for it a couple months ago.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Well, the five k is ran on a Friday afternoon,
where the ten k half marathon, full marathon is all
ran on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
And I was like, I don't.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
Want to run a five k like all by our
loan someome when I want like the full marathon feel.
And the five k is also like off site, it's
not like the marathon course.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
So it's like, I'll just do the ten k, and
so I signed up for the ten k and the
morning came.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
This was I wish I could talk to somebody that
like runs marathons for a living about this, because this
is interesting. The race starts at six thirty. They have
shuttles that go from a local convention center. It's like
ten minutes away from the start line, and you can
go get dropped off there, or park your car there
at the convention center, take the shuttle. The shuttle start
from three thirty am, and the last one leaves at
(04:54):
five am. Like I said, it's only a ten minute
ride to the place. So even if you take the
last shuttle at five am, you're gonna get there five
ten am, and the start line's literally right there.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
They drop you off right there.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
There's like a little area where you can like sit
and like get some water. There's a lot of porter potties,
but you're just sitting there for an hour and a half.
I my over prepared self, got on the shout at
like four thirty, like just in case, and so I
was there like almost two hours early, and fortunately, thank goodness,
(05:24):
Bart was able to take me because I don't like
driving in the dark and I didn't want to deal
with all that traffic. The alternative to this was you
can drive on site, like drive to the gated area
where the marathon's happening, but then you have to walk
a mile in wet grass. It literally said that on
the spectator or the marathon notes like please prepare you know,
(05:48):
your shoes basically have like a second pair of shoes
ready because your first pair are going to be wet
walking through the grass. But I'm like, it's not like
they have lockers where you can drop your stuff off,
so like maybe.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
There wasn't any Yeah, how you can be prepared.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Yeah, like everyone that was getting on the shuttle was
basically just like in their clothes with their running bib
on and maybe a bottle of water and that was it.
Like you're not taking ready to go a bunch of things, right,
So I was like, well that sounds weird. So yeah,
I just had I just did the shuttle instead. But yeah,
so the start time thing was very interesting. I just
kind of twiddled my thumbs for a couple hours, but then.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
You got started and the race was great. I'm so
happy I did it.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
The six miles honestly went by really fast. I had
never run six miles at once. I've done a five
k before, like back in the day.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
But yeah, I think it.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Is because I was like excited and like I've been
up for a couple hours and you know, I've been
like wanting to do this for a while. So yeah,
it was really nice. It was also you know, the
little bit of fall vibes. It was also at six
thirty in the morning, so it was it was crispy.
It was like not hot, which was nice because it
was so early in the morning and it's i mean
six miles. It only takes like an hour and a
half at most to run.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
So yeah, it looked so cool on like the Air
Force base. And you actually met a disc golfer too, right.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Yeah, yeah, I think his name was Jason. He came
up to me. Bart and I were like on our
way out, and he was like, oh, are you Christine.
I was like, do you play just girl? I was like, yeah,
that's so cool.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
So that was that's so cool. Yeah, I'm proud of you.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
I'm doing it again next year.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
And I looked at Bart and I was like, I
might even do the half marathon because the ten k
went by kind of quick. But I don't see how
I feel. I'm gonna, like, you know, get into running
a little bit more and train a little bit harder,
because yeah, thirteen miles will be no joke.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Yeah, my mom she'll start pushing you to do fifty milers.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
Here in the next mom is my inspiration. I told
her that too.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
She commented on some of my things Calleda's mom is
a baddie.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
If you guys didn't.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Know, she's a baddie. But she's getting foot surgery then
back surgery, so she's going to be out, so poor
poor woman.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
But she's gonna want to get right by to it
the moment she can.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Yes, she will.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Well. This weekend, there was also a tournament that happened,
the Green Mountain Championships, So it was the first playoff
season of the event.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Playoff event of the season.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
And playoff events give you one hundred and fifty points
for winning, so there's like different point points you can
earn as a winner of different events throughout the year,
so it's one hundred and fifty. This event was a
four round event with no cut on the third round.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
How do you feel about them?
Speaker 2 (08:34):
I have a few thoughts about this. A part of
me says, cool, like everyone paid to be there, they
should be able to play like four days. But then
a part of me is like, the third round didn't
feel as stressful knowing there wasn't a cut, And I
feel like when we have those cuts, it puts that
extra pressure on the players, and then you see either
(08:58):
like someone like pop off, where you see someone kind
of fall apart, and so I think that like we
kind of miss that on that third round, especially on
a course like Brewster where things can go wrong really quick.
So I guess that aspect was a little funky. Uh.
And then also just like the feeling of earning a
cut feels really nice as an athlete. So I don't know.
(09:20):
I think I think it's good. Lets people maybe make
a comeback on that fourth round, try and shoot a
hot round to get into cash. But yeah, I don't know.
I'm a little on the fence about it.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
I think the same thing because I was thinking the
opposite because you said, Okay, well, if you don't have
a cut the third round, you're a little more lax
on the third round, but then you're gonna have a
little bit more pressure on the fourth round. But then
if you think of it backwards, like if there is
a third day cut, sure you're gonna feel more pressure
on that third day, but then if you make the cut,
then you can be a little bit more chill on
that last day. Most of the time, if you make
(09:54):
the cut, you make cash.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
This year has proven us a little bit wrong on that.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
There have been people like at the very bottom judities
that end up not cashing.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
But there's two I guess you can look at it
both ways. So I'm also on the fence. I'm not
really sure.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
I know a lot of other will have a lot
of strong opinions about it. So well, the event is
at the well known Smugglers Notch.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
A lot of people stay at the resort that's right.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Down the street, and then you play on the two
infamous courses, Brewster Ridge and Fox Run.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
This is my favorite course and event. Ever do you agree?
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Ever?
Speaker 3 (10:36):
What about you?
Speaker 2 (10:37):
Well, you've been to Europe, I know, yeah, I mean
played what about like us? Of Okay, you know, I've
been to all the fifty states and this is definitely
a top three just because, like you said, it's Smugglers
not Resort is right there. So when the disc golfers
come to town, it almost feels like we take over.
(10:58):
You know. You show up to Smugglers Resort and it's
just disc golfers. You go into the breakfast spot you
see you know, uh, Maria Oliva, you know, you go
to the gas station. I saw D N Carry and
AJ So it's just like we take over that town.
And also the maple creamies. Everybody loves the maple creamies
and Smugglers Nuts. But also just having two prestige courses
(11:23):
on the same property just makes it even that much better. Yeah, yeah,
I love smunks.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
Living in the little bubble and then it typically fall,
like you can see on coverage the leaves are starting
to change. Yeah, and it's kind of like tucked away
in its own little part of the world.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
So yeah, very nice. So one of my favorites.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
So this event, you alternate both courses, so you start
on Brewster, go to Fox Brewster, and then you end
on Fox. I feel like starting on Brewster can be
a little bit nerve wracking, but then also on the contrary,
like ending on Fox is the probably best case scenario.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Mm hmm, what do you think.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
I definitely feel like ending on Fox brings its own challenges,
especially what we saw during the final round here at
you know, Green Mountain Championships, was the wind comes into
play a lot more so not only are we worrying
about the O b's, but now you're taking an account
the wind. And you'd think that with more of the
(12:22):
open space we would see a lot more lower scores,
but I think a lot of the women struggle with
a lot of space but a lot of tight ob
on Fox. So I think Fox brings a really exciting
finish that we wouldn't see at Brewster. Yeah, I agree,
So heading into a round one, you know, after d Glow,
(12:44):
Christine and I talked on the podcast about how Holland
was just dominating and we really were starting to see
her game kind of just like blow up. So yeah,
I was really expecting her to kind of pop off
here at GMC, and Christine even said like, oh, you know,
who knows we might even see and you know, takedown
GMC on our last podcast, And I was really surprised
(13:05):
to see her struggle so hard on brew that first round,
shooting plus two, leaving her in twenty fifth place. And
at this point she's out of the cash. You know,
obviously it's round one, so we still have three more rounds,
but she's out, so it's kind of crazy, she's not
even contending for the win. And I would say the
key to Brewster is playing the elevation. And it sounds
funny because obviously, like you want to be smart in
(13:27):
the woods, you know, no brain er there, but a
lot of these holes. You may not realize it, but
you're throwing either straight up hill or straight downhill. So
using those slopes of your advantage, you know, making sure
you're choosing the correct disc I think is super important
on Brewster. Christin ended up leading the field with a
seven down, and this was close to the number that
(13:50):
I was assuming for a hot score on Brewster. I
was thinking kind of like eight, maybe nine if someone
decided to just pop off and throw like super juicy
lines without being too crazy. But the field was tight
from second to tight to eleventh, and it trickled all
the way down from five down to one down. I
(14:10):
was super stoked with my plus one to kick off
the event we did. I was stoked, and then we
did ce On have one hundred percent C two making
four a four. No surprise there, uh, and then Silva
with an eighty nine percent hair fairway hits super important
on Brewster because anywhere off of the fairway, not that
(14:34):
it isn't easy to save par but it definitely it
makes it trickier. I would say that the rough on
Brewster is pretty chill, like you're It's not like we're
playing in Texas, where you like have to just pitch out.
I think you can scramble pretty well from the rough.
So yeah, Christen was leading the pack heading into round
two and we jumped over to Fox Run. So this
(14:54):
is our more open course, but this is where all
of our O B was And like I said, I
think it's kind of incredible that we have two highly
rated courses on the same property, not only for like dgpts,
but also like for your average player they can go
play one and then head over to the other. There
aren't a lot of places like that, all right. Talking
(15:16):
about Holland again though, man, she was looking to make
a comeback after her first round, and with no surprise,
she jomp jumped fifteen spots with a four down. I
was blown away, but Kristin didn't start off too hot,
and I was kind of curious to see where she
ended up. And then she lit it up, taking eleven bernies.
She did have a few other bogies on the day,
(15:36):
but she finished seven down. Christine, I'm sorry if you're
starting year round with two bogies, Like, how are you
getting out of that? Because I think we've seen with
Kristin on a few different events so far. She's talked
about how you know it's never over until it's over,
and so it's just like, you know, how would you
keep that mentality after walking up Boom taking a bogee
(15:59):
Boom takes another bogy.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
I feel like the way Kristen plays she has like
a different, different strength of mentality, because I feel like
everyone would agree when you say, okay, like you take
a couple bogies and then you keep telling yourself like
you got this, you keep going. Occasionally I'll fall into
a mental funk where I tell myself that, but then like,
(16:22):
you know, let's say the two bogies happened because I
had early releases or Yanks or whatever it was that
caused that to happen. That will always be in the
back of my head and be like, okay, like just
don't do that again, and then it'll happen, you know,
and then it like ends up kind of snowballing.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
So to be able to just.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Like cut that off and forget about it and continue
on is like.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
The what you should do. But that's not always how
it happens.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
Not everyone can do it. And I you know, I
had around during GMC where I told myself at the
start that I was going to stay neutral through everything,
and it was such a weird feeling because usually like
when you hit something, you just want to be like dang,
like what are you doing dude? Like that was so bad,
But like I literally like forced myself to be like
super neutral about it, and the round was so chill
(17:10):
and like I came back from some bogies and it's
just like it's I think, it's just like keeping yourself
at like a level head. But yeah, shout out to Kristin, So, yeah,
she she killed it, and I'm you know, it would
have been cool to see her with like an eleven down,
but I'll be happy with the seven t V oh right. Uh.
(17:39):
It was noticeable that those keeping their discs inbounds on
Fox Run were excelling in the field. You could see
the ladies lower in the field were taking like five
to eight o b's, which really takes you out of it.
After playing the second round, I shot plus one and
it's crazy because usually on Fox Run, like ladies shoot
super under. So I honestly was expecting to like come
(18:02):
off that course and just be like moved down like
ten spots and your girl didn't move down one spot.
That's great, And it was such a weird. It was
so weird because our conditions were great, it was beautiful weather,
but a lot of women were finding the OB's that
that first day at Fox Run.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
Yeah, I remember, is it is it whole twelve? It's
the one on the back where it has like the
couple bubbles. It's the par five I think it is.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Mm hmmm, oh that's seven oh seven.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
Wow, I'm way off.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
That one always got me because like the first drive
is typically okay, but then like if you if there's
any wind or you get squarely on the the second
or third upshot, you can go double ob and then
you're only like trying to putt for an eight and
you're like, okay, okay, this is fine. But that's how
that's how fast the obe's happened, especially on those lones
(18:53):
and so.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
And being in the FBO division, we have that dew
eat grass and so it's just like you may think
it's perfect and then you get that extra like little
baby wet skip out of bounds, you know. So Missy
ended up moving, Uh, she ended up moving up three spots,
and I knew she was gonna be on a mission
day three at Brewster. While Silva, Cat and Valerie all
(19:17):
had one hundred percent circle ones during that second round.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
Heading yeah, heading into round three to start the round,
Own was four strokes back of Kristen. She was throwing
some incredible flex lines though, and even had a huge
throw in on whole ten. I don't know if you
saw that on coverage. It was so cool, and it's
cool because you could you could hear de eruption from
across the course and like you're just like one of
those things where you're just like what happened and someone
(19:44):
as someone to do something cool. So it was cool
to see her throw in afterwards. She just she does that.
I was hoping to see Hannah play strong on brew
but with only a fifty percent putting rate, she dropped
off our lead card for the final day and own
and Missy we're the uh with a fifty six percent
(20:06):
birdie rate ten out of eighteen holes straight killing it.
I thought that was now impressive, That's what I'm saying.
Now we're heading into round four. Ownscoggins ended up getting
the lead with that third round. She shot a nine down,
absolutely fire thousand, rated twenty eight rated. Actually, to be exact,
(20:29):
she's tied with Silva going into this final round. All right, Christine,
you wake up. First thing you see outside is one,
it's cold. We have not played in the cold this week.
Two it is windy as heck. How are you feeling
leading this event?
Speaker 3 (20:44):
I feel like I was just.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Perfect, perfect response.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
It's like, what the heck, I've been making sure I
have my mittens on to keep my fingers warm. I
don't know, I just like tell myself to like this,
trust it, Trust yourself, trust your game, like you know
what you're doing. You know, maybe if it's headwind, just
stable up a little bit or maybe throw a little
(21:10):
bit more higher.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
You know you're leading.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
For Yeah, same here, same here. I think it's just
getting past the doubts and then just being like all right,
like you said, trust the Frisbees, you know your discs.
But we did see own you know, we wanted she
was leading the event. I was curious to see how
she'd play on Fox. She didn't do awesome on Fox
at second round, so I was hoping she'd gets some redemption,
but with only four birdies on the day, Owne dropped
(21:36):
to third place, while Silva was popping off that start
of the round. I mean she was just on fire.
Christen was slowly started gaining while Silva was making like
small mistakes here and there. I think that's just Silva's
issue right now, is like the small mistakes, like the
simple stuff that you need to get past. Because her
putting is amazing. We see her baying almost as many
(21:59):
C two putts as like own nowadays, and her drive
is so simplistic that, like, there aren't a lot of
errors there. So I think it's just like the not
having a forehand, I think kind of stinks. But she
gets away with it with her good standstills, but she's
struggling on just some of the simple easy stuff that
she needs to like really you know, do well at
(22:21):
So it was a battle between Kristin and Silva. Silva
was doing really well and then this is where things
got spicy. Whole seventeen Silva was leading by two strokes
and I don't know about you, but I'm like, you know, girl,
get it in bounds, Get it in bounds again. Lay
that up and you have a DGPT win in the States. Baby.
(22:41):
You know, Silva kicked butt in Europe at the other
DGPT events, but we have yet to really see her
do well here in the States. Right, So whole seventeen,
she's leading by two. Kristen has the tea on eighteen,
and I don't know you feel in this situation, but
I'd be a little nervous because, like she's right behind me,
(23:04):
and I'm like, okay, Like she just got it in bounds.
All you have to do is get it embounce. Just
get it in bounced, and right out of Silva's hand.
You knew it was ob and if she got it
close enough, she could have just saved par and one
by one stroke. But Kristin parked her foe hand approach.
And that's not an easy four hand approach. I had
the same thing. One. You have to throw it over
(23:24):
o b over spectators and then it has to come
back inbounds. And there's ob to the right that slopes. Yeah,
and she absolutely parked it. Yeah, So there was a
two stroke swing. They ended up absolutely just tying each
other on that final hole, and Jeff Spring took them
back up to the t of hole eighteen, and this
is where things got crazy. I was watching live with
(23:45):
a few of the other like fpo women, and we
were all just like screaming in the parking lot.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
So Jeff Spring does the coin flip and Kristin wins
the coin flip. And I guess in this situation, would
you rather tee off first in a playoff or would
you go second?
Speaker 1 (24:00):
I feel like I'd rather tee off first because because
in silver situation previously on hole eighteen, Kristin had just
bested her every time she went first. Kristin teed off first,
and then Kristin threw her upshot first and then parked it.
So then Silva is like, Okay, now I have to
match that, and maybe like some nerves had to do
with all of that, So I would want to like
(24:22):
just try to shake that off and just get my
shots over with. M hmm.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
Well, she did end up having a redemption tee shot.
She threw a wonderful tea shot alongside like the ob
it faded back safe, but on this time around she
was on the right side, which is a tighter gap
to the green you have some overhnging branches. While Kristin
literally just threw the same exact shot she threw before,
she just threw another forehand easypsy circle one. Honestly, I
(24:50):
thought Silver's Silva's approach to the basket was pure. I
too thought it was perfect, and then boom, mister Greg
Barsby iron leaf hit it and she was C two.
I was so, I was so sassy. I was like,
no way. So Silva ends up trying to go for
the C two putt miss is it goes Obe lays up.
(25:12):
Kristen is our winner.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
That was such an intense.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
Like back five, like the back nine starts and you're like, okay.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
Silva had a six.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
Stroke lead on top of Kristin at one point, Like
six strokes is a lot, especially on fox run, as
long as you can.
Speaker 3 (25:32):
Keep it in mound. You didn't find.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
But it just kind of like started stacking towards like
the last few holes.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
She took a couple bogies. I was actually surprised that she.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
Ran her putt on whole seventeen because I was like,
just lay it up, and luckily she made the comebacker.
But if she didn't make the comebacker, it would have
been more pressure. But yeah, it just like you said,
it was a lot of little things that ended up
costing Silva.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
Those strokes at the end, but I want to.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
Contribute them to nerves, not like the inability, because sometimes
it's an inability and this at this point it was
nerve because like she missed. It was like a ten
footer on whole sixteen, the one where you come out
of the woods. She was like inside the circle and
just like missed, kind of like it tappened. It just
kind of pulled it right, And like that's definitely nerves,
(26:21):
Like you have nerves of steel on the putting green
and you just missed a ten footer.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
So yeah, dang, I think it was.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
I'm sure she could take away a lot from this
and hopefully she'll come back strong and be able to
take one down soon. But yeah, Kristen was able to
take the way.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
Down at JAMC.
Speaker 1 (26:51):
Now, we wanted to ask you guys what your reactions
were to this GMC, so we posted on our little
story So I'm going to read some of these answers
and said, I love to see Kristin win, but I
hated to see how Silva lost.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Very bittersweet ending. I agree.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
I agree, Yeah, pulling for Silva to get that first
US win that was heartbreaking. Someone said, I feel you
I feel you. Oh it's our buddy, Steve Snyder. He said,
I might be biased, but ConA star Montgomery playing a
nine to sixty seven tournament, we see you.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
Oh, I love you.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
I was going to break that down to it, but
then I saw his answer and I was like, I'll
just let him.
Speaker 3 (27:36):
Let him say that's cool.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
He also said that the finish was an edge of
seat exciting finish to watch.
Speaker 3 (27:45):
No lead is safe with kristin guitar.
Speaker 2 (27:48):
True.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
Someone else said totally thought Own was going to win.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
What a stretch at the too, This is true?
Speaker 2 (27:54):
Yeah, me too. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
I was like, Christen's too far back, you know, Own
and Silver gonna like go battle and then that's out.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
I just think this is this is what I'm seeing
right now. I saw on disc golf Reddit. I don't
know if you're on Reddit much, I think you are.
They posted that disc golf is getting boring to watch,
and I read some of the comments and a lot
of them are saying that women's disc golf right now
is way more fun to watch because there are way
(28:24):
way more people winning and battling each other in our
division right now, and like we're so much more relatable
that people would rather watch us right now than the dude.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
I'm glad that people are finally coming around to this
because sure, like a lot of men will want to
watch MPO because I feel like, you know, they just
like to watch like the cool shots and stuff. But
there are a lot of men that have come up
to me during tournaments before and was like, I love
watching FPO because you're more relatable. Like you throw, you know,
(28:56):
three hundred feet. You know, some women throw four hundred
feet shots. That's about how far I throw, and so
like I'm not throwing six hundred feet, you know, So.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
Like why would I do that? Like why would I
watch on PO?
Speaker 1 (29:08):
So yeah, a lot a lot more people are catching
on to that because FPO is always a good show.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
One more answer.
Speaker 1 (29:16):
Somebody said, never give up, which I agree, big preach.
Kristen just kept that gas pedal down.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
Yeah, And just like Kristen, Sarah Hocumb and Jennifer Allen
had to go into a playoff this past weekend at
the Tim Selensky United States Master's Disc Golf Championships presented
by Ineva, and it was a true It was truly
a battle from the start to the finish because Jennifer
Allen was leading the event by five strokes over Sarah Hocum.
(29:48):
Sarah Hocumb was in like fifth place at this point
after round one, and then it was a battle, just
like Sarah ended up shooting a super hot round that
second round and then just her and Jen just kept
matching each other. And then what's crazy is not only
did GMC have a playoff, but Tim Selensky had a
playoff as well. Between Jen and Sarah, they went into
(30:09):
I believe a four hole playoff. Wow and Sarah. Yeah,
Sarah secured her first ever Master's Major win and her
fourth overall major type.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
That's amazing.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
So congrats to Sarah. Is super exciting, especially because I
think it's really inspiring what she's doing this year. She
had ankle surgery and to come back from that. Not
only you know, we had Page Peers come back from
an ankle surgery as well, and it's just like to
see these women come out and like trust their ankles
enough to compete at the highest level is really insane
(30:43):
because yeah, I had surgery, but I didn't have surgery
on a limb, you know what I mean. I feel
like that comes with a different kind of trauma and
trust issue that you have with your body. So for
them to put all their weight, all their trust on
their ankles and on their game is amazing. So got
out to Sarah Hocum. The one thing I would like
to bring up that ConA Montgomery is a little sassy
(31:05):
about is we did see that, Sarah, for a major
title only one two thousand, three hundred and fifty dollars.
So this makes me a little angry. I do know
that it is masters. So no, they don't have as
much coverage, they don't have as much promotion, they don't
(31:28):
have as many eyes watching. And no, they did not
have a huge division. They only had sixteen women playing.
To compare, we had one hundred women at USWDGC and
there was a twelve k pot for the women. But
it's just upsetting that our veterans of the sport aren't
(31:48):
quite getting taken care of at the amount that I
think they should.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
I agree, but I also think that in the next
five years we might start seeing more more of those veterans.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
Not fully switching over like you see, I mean all.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
Of them, Sarah Hokum, Jennifer Allen own. They all kind
of dabble in the Master's events sometimes and then they'll
come back to normal FPO events. So I think we'll
start seeing a lot more people transition over to those
masters events, and then the pot should slowly start growing
because there's going to be more and more people playing.
One day, our whole FO field's gonna be in the
(32:27):
Master's division.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
Well, it's also just like the the pros that we
see nowadays, Like no offense to some of my pros,
but like they are getting older, and it's just not
to say that, you know, the Steve Ricos and the
Ken Climos, you know shouldn't be getting paid that amount.
But we're in a day and age where disc golf
is actually getting taken seriously to where there are bigger payouts.
(32:52):
So I think that our bigger names right now in
the MPO and f PO division, when they do transfer
to the masters, they will already kind of set up
for more success because this day and age, we've gotten
better with more things. So unfortunately for our older veterans theating,
they won't get that love, but I think our future
veterans and masters.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
Will, so yeah, So congratulations to Sarah Hocum and Kristin
ta Tar.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
This weekend. Well, the players are already.
Speaker 1 (33:21):
In Massachusetts, like ConA mentioned this morning, and they were
getting ready to play m VP Open literally tomorrow because
there was another four day event that starts on Thursday.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
So why good.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
Luck, ConA, and thank you guys so much for listening.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
We will catch you next week's my b
