Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Party Podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
A celebration of professional women's disc golf with plenty of
hot takes, fun stories.
Speaker 3 (00:06):
And fan questions.
Speaker 4 (00:07):
I'm Hannah mcfeth, I'm Christine Jennings, I'm ConA Montgomery, and
we are.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
The Party Podcast. What's Up, Party people?
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (00:16):
This week this is.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Sorry, Hannah, Well, what's up?
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Party people?
Speaker 2 (00:24):
This week we're going over the Grip EQ forty third
Kansas City Wide Open presented by under par And this
week we also don't have Hannah because we actually kicked
her off.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Yeah, she's been fired because first you guys hired me,
and then I was able to come back because Christine
got fired, and now like I'm revenge firing Hannah.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
So yeah, I mean the show goes on with ConA
and I it does.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
It does keep going on next week, so one else
will be sick. So yeah, handed macbeth, she is actually
very sick right now. She just seems to keep having
a bunch of issues. I think just her body is
fighting all the bad stuff that she's trying to get
rid of. I think I think that's what's going on.
So she is resting, hanging out with baby Pa. But Christine,
(01:18):
how are you, what are you doing.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
I'm good.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
I feel that like detoxing and finding stuff off. I
was on site at Kansas City for a little over
a week, so I flew back home yesterday. We tore
down the course on Sunday night. I got four hours
of sleep before I had to get on a plane
in the morning, and then I got home at like
twelve thirty and I had a meeting like a little
(01:42):
bit later in the afternoon, and I was like, I
don't want to take a nap because then I'm gonna
like be wired for the night.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
So I just stayed up.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
I just ran on four hours asleep, which I'm surprised
I was able to do, and I slept for ten hours,
so I'm like still catching up. I like still feel
tired and like my body's fatigued. My body's just not
used to like being I don't even play disc off
that much anymore. I just do some like weightlifting here
and there. So going out and like walking fifteen thousand
steps a day.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
For me is a lot.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
I know that's not a lot for some people, but
like I sit at home all day and maybe it
was five thousand steps in.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
That was a big course for you to just come
out and walk fifteen thousand steps. It's not like just
like flat Kansas Imporia land.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
That's hilly.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Yeah, And it was kind of slippery because it got wet,
so you know, like the mud on the hills.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
And then it was freezing. It was like fifty five degrees,
so cool and gloomy, like it's not like fifty five
with sunshine. It was like fifty five.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Gloomy, kind of misty, and so it was just like cold.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
And you know how your body just like tenses up
when you're cold, and you can never like you're cold
to the bone.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
All day diff all day.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Yeah, so my body still like sore recovering. I feel
like groggy, but.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
I feel oh, I.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Definitely feel that. I feel like.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
So I'm in Colorado now. We drove all the way
to Colorado from Missouri.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
And it's hot here, so hot.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
D thought very fast. Yes, I don't know if you
can tell. My cheeks are like red. I was outside
with Waco and Wow, took her to her first VET
but it was like, yeah, the sun is shining bright
here at fifty two eighty elevation.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Yeah, So I I saw the sun and instantly like, dude,
it's just such a good mood, so happy, such a
happy person when the sun is Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
I flew home and it was I think it was
like seventy five when I landed, and I was like,
I had left Kansas cold in the morning, so I
was like hot, sweatpants on, like a hoodie, and so
I took my hoodie off when I got my car
because my car was at the airport.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
I was like, oh, nice, Like it's gonna be warm
and sunny, and it's been sunshine, so yeah, yes, nice.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
So yeah, it was a nice change coming from miserable,
nasty looking misery.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
I'm glad we.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
Didn't have any tornadoes. Yeah, everybody was freaking me out
at the weather.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
But I'm glad FPO missed the weather too.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
So while we're talking about that, how was your weekend
as a competitor.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
Yeah, I actually really liked this course, big huge shout
out to the Kansas City, Missouri Liberty Missouri crew. They
put in a lot of work on this course. Casey Pennington,
she's an FPO player. She actually personally did a lot
of work on this really. Yeah, Like she's from the area,
so it's like when she went on the tee, people
(04:29):
were like, you know, super excited, so hometown and love,
but like there were people who were like, you should
have every FPO player think.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
This woman, Like she put in a lot of work here.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
And I just heard throughout the weekend just like, oh,
you know this person helped with the pavers or this
person did this, and it was just like wow, like
the community really came together, which you know, not to
say every course we played doesn't do that, but I
saw it a lot here.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Especially.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Yeah, well shout out Casey Pennington. Thank you so much
for all of your hard work and the entire live
that's amazing. Well have you played that course before?
Speaker 4 (05:03):
No, it was my first time at bad Rock Creek
disc golf course.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
I have never played an event in Missouri.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
So was my first event there and I loved it.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
This course was awesome.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
I felt like it played for my game really well.
There was a lot of different elevation changes, so like
throwing uphill, throwing downhill, and coming from Colorado where I
grew up doing a lot of that, I felt like
I felt like I did really well on some of
those holes. For example, well sixteen a huge par five
(05:38):
on some of the shots, like you have to throw
like straight up hill or like straight downhill, and for
some people who haven't played on that kind of elevation change,
it can be kind of difficult to get the nose
angle down. So I was super proud of how I
was throwing the disc, especially on those shots.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Nice. Yeah, I love that course.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
I don't I don't quite know like a course that
I could compare it to, I guess, but it just
has like a lot of this kind of like in
and out of woods holes and I love that, Like
you tee off in the woods so you have to
like hit a gap, but then like your next shot
is in the open or vice versa, like you're in
the open and then it kind of like it narrows
down into some trees or something.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
So I really like the way the course was.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
I haven't I played it. I think two years ago.
It was a silver event on tour, so I was
on site, and when I saw it on the calendar
this year, I called DIBs on it because I was like,
I love their team, I love that course. Yeah, and
they were all super stoked for the pro Tor to
be back. So yeah, I think the vibes were great.
I think they would have just been better if the
(06:41):
weather was better, Like, like I said, it was gloomy
all weekend. But aside from that, like even they were
still super excited.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
Yeah, And what I liked is the the people who
meet you at the scoring tint I believe Tammy and
Kevin Montgomery. Yes, yes, both shout out to them hopefully
they find somehow because I was like, we're cousins now
we have the same last name. But I loved that
at the end of every single rounds, they're like, hey,
(07:09):
were there any backups out there? Is there any like
info you can tell us? Like not every single person
like does that at the end of you around, like hey,
like how can we improve? Like what are your thoughts?
You know, fresh off the course. So I really appreciated
that from staff.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Yeah, that's awesome.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
I know they're they've been doing that job as a
couple for like over a decade. I'm pretty sure like
he had some history where he was a lot more
involved with like planning of events back then, and then
he kind of like morphed into this role of scoring director.
I love it, Like everybody that you meet, like in
that community, they've been like doing something for years and
(07:47):
so like all of the it's kind of like they
collected all of like the I don't know what do
you call him, like veterans, all the legendary people of
that community to make like the core part of the
events staff.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
I think were cool.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
Yeah, so I found some cousins.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Well, yeah, it was a long week for me.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
We had basket testing, so we had DGPG basket testing,
and then we had match play. So match play at
Music City, remember we said was canceled because of the
weather there, so we rescheduled a portion of it here
at Case Wide Open and so I think it was
supposed to be four MPO cards and four FPO cards
I think, but ended up being like smaller, so two
(08:29):
FPO cards, eight players on each division. But it was
like a full day broadcast, So it was like we
had a four day event from our perspective, because we
still had to get the camera guys out there, the
operations people, you know, we had to be officials on
the card still wake up early and like be there
to make sure the course was ready and all of that.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
So it was kind of felt like a four day event.
And then the team had to go out West like
as soon as possible.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
On Monday, so we like had to pack up on
Sunday night, which, yeah, it wasn't It wouldn't been so
bad if it wasn't cold and wet like I usually
wear like work gloves when I were like tearing down
assets and stuff like that, and my work gloves were
wet and they were freezing. So it's like your fingers
just get cold and like you're already tired and stiff.
It's like you said, I get this done, but the
(09:14):
team always comes through we as we always finish and
pack up.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
So it was a long day. But yeah, I really
like that event. I'd love to continue to go back.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
Yeah, a little feedback from the spectator standpoint. I heard
from a lot of different people that the match play
was a lot.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Of fun to watch.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
Oh cool, I heard that from several different people.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Well, hopefully everyone can hear this and they'll continue to
go to our other match play event.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Keep subscribing to DGN.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
All right, well, for the event and the FPO division,
I'll just let you kind of kick it off with
a recap of what doubt.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
Yeah, so you know, going into round one, it was
kind of just even keel, just chilling. The weather was
pretty good. We had wind going in one direction the
first day and then it like completely switched the second day.
But round one, Holland gave herself a three stroke lead
without Christen being here, I kind of was just like,
you know, who's the next person who could possibly you know,
kick Booty. And obviously Own has been kind of like
(10:24):
up and down. I wouldn't say that she's like consistently
shooting her best, although Own is shooting very well. So yeah,
Holland was doing really well. And someone who I would
love to talk about is Caden's Birch because on round
two she shot a ten to twenty four rated round
and tied for the hot round. And she just continues
(10:46):
to be the topic of conversation and a familiar face
on the pro tour. So honestly, like, you know, do
you think we could see her maybe getting like a
DGPT this season?
Speaker 2 (10:56):
Like maybe, I mean when you start seeing people podium,
like I mean occasionally they just kind of like pop
off every once in a while, but like usually we
start kind of seeing a trend of them, like okay,
like top ten, top five, you know, eventually they get one.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Yeah, So I don't know, I'm really excited to like
just keep watching her and like see her kind of
gained confidence, and like I see the confidence sometimes, Like
sometimes I see her swagger on the course with her
oh really awesome like orange chair. But sometimes like she
can get a little hot headed, a little angry. So
I'd love to see her kind of reel that in
and like just be able to just you know, keep
(11:34):
doing what she's doing. It's really cool to see her
bang like all these putts. Yeah, but you know, Joe
Mizpro has most of this coverage with Madison Walker and
Erica sitchcoms, So if you guys want to get like
the nitty gritty of these rounds, like make sure to
check those out. But Christine and I are going over
some of this, but stay tuned. We have a fun
(11:55):
topic of pet peeves and disc golf coming up, so
we're gonna finish this. Please keep listening. Round three Ella
took third place. She really showcased her power on brad
Rock Creek disc golf course. She was one of I
think three eagles on hole fourteen, which if you don't
know whole fourteen, it's it's really long. Downhill ob on
(12:19):
both sides water behind the green, par five going from
the ladies landing zone off the tee going for the
approach to the basket is insane to me. The ob
is pretty tight and then it's downhill, so it's like
you have to be pretty careful with what disc you're
throwing so it doesn't glide too far. And I'm honestly
(12:41):
just really impressed with women who decided to go for
that shot because it's big for one, but two to
get the eagle is insane. So shout out to Ella
Hanson on her third place showing. This marks Ella's fourth
top ten finish of the season, so she continues to
show man power and in urns. She worked out a
(13:02):
lot during the off season, both physically like in the gym.
I also saw that she did some like she helped
volunteer some places as well. So Ella was really busy
this off season with a lot of cool things. But
second place, we just talked about our cadence bird. She
took second place, her first podium finish at a disc
(13:25):
Golf Pro Tour event. I do not think this will
be her last. With one hundred percent circle C one
X both round two and three. I bet if we
had it one hundred percent during round one, we'd be
talking about her a lot more right now.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
That's wild, It's crazy.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
I think Ownskoggin's got one hundred percent C one x
three rounds. Yes, and like some of these some of
these greens aren't very like safe. You know, you either
have like maybe O B behind you or it's on
a slope. So one hundred percent from like anywhere inside
the circle I think is really impressive.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (14:02):
And then the winner, Holland with another DGPT victory for
the twenty twenty five season, shooting course record of the
first round now averaging in the thousands consistently. I mean,
could Holland be the next FPO player to hit one
thousand rated? She's currently nine ninety one looking at that,
(14:25):
and Own just went down to nine eighty six after
the last update, and I was thinking Own was going
to be the next one. Personally, I just had her
in my mind as just like I don't know, I
just see Own right now, Holland is playing incredible thousand
rated golf.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
That's so crazy to think, Like, I don't know, years
ago when I was playing, It's like, oh, page Pierce.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
Was the talk of she going to be the first
thousand rated.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
And then like Kristen comes up and for a little
bit like sure she's distanced, but now to think that
there are a couple few other women that have the
chance to become a thousand rated mind blowing.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
I didn't see it happening so fast me either too,
Like go back to when you and.
Speaker 4 (15:10):
Me were like on the road, like let's say like
twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen, playing like competitively. I didn't think
it would be done within ten years.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Honestly, I don't think so either.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
I was talking to I was talking to.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
Somebody on site about their PDGA number because I think
Holland is like one hundred and ten thousand or one
hundred and something thousand, and we were talking about like
nubes and we're like, oh, you can't even call thee
hundred thousands nubes anymore because we're like, well into the
two hundred thousands.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
Didn't we hit did we hit three hundred already?
Speaker 3 (15:41):
Maybe I feel like there.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
Was like a post I was like, oh, three hundred
thousand already. But anyways, it's like thousand was.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
A milestone in PDGA one hundred thousand members. You know,
thousand rated for FPO was a milestone, and it's like,
all of a sudden, like all these milestones are just
being crushed.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
It seems like everything's moving so quickly. It's so cool.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
Yeah we did.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
PDGA did hit three hundred thousand January sixth so fast.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
So like if you're one hundred thousand, you can't like
we can't call you a nube anymore.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
It took forty one years for the PDGA to reach
one hundred k members. In subsequent four years they added
another two hundred k.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
Wow. Wow.
Speaker 4 (16:19):
And well it's crazy because Holland just only started playing
in like twenty twenty competitively and she already has.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Yeah, she's moving quick.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
But that's also another testament to athletes, Like people that
have played a different sport.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Or have been you know, competitive in other.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
Ways before disc golf, they're doing really well in the sport.
Like Holland's one of them. She was a powerlifter before
she came in. Ellen Ellen Hanson played ultimate. You know,
we have Taylor Chosek who's she hasn't you know, performed
well necessarily, but she's like learning how to throw really well,
really fast, Sofia.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
I just saw her post sofiacky.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Yeah she's just a by like.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
Some bike yeah, biking something. Yeah, so it's like cyclists. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
So yeah, we have a lot of athletes coming into
the sport that I think have really high potential and
I think it's really exciting.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
Well, and I you know, a little shout out to
Holland for a second. I want to say it was
maybe like one or two years ago. I was like, man, Holland, like,
you know, I want to get like, you know, buff,
like you or something. And one thing that she said
to me was you have to be okay with maybe
getting a little bit bigger in places you're not expecting,
like bigger, stronger women are better.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
Anyways, so it's like you have to be comfortable.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
And I was like, heck, yeah, thanks halland thanks yeah
you know, empowerment, Yeah for sure. Does it matter if
you get like a little bit bigger, like you're you're strong,
It matters.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
Yes, Yes, you're strong for sure.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
Well, congratulations to Holland Hanley for winning the twenty twenty
five Kansas City Wide Open.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
I had a couple of shout outs that I wanted
to mention.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
I was kind of looking through the stats, and I
was really surprised at some of them, so I want to.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
Shot them out real quick before we move into our
pet peeves.
Speaker 2 (18:06):
So in round one, Jennifer Allen and Heidi Line eagle
whole four that's crazy. Like you mentioned, Ellen, Hanson also
had an eagle on I think he said hold fourteen yep,
and one more eagle for the event, a cat March
eagle whole sixteen in round one. I believe that one
was actually a throw in. I think you can go
(18:26):
find that throw in on disc Off pro Tour Instagram.
Speaker 4 (18:30):
It's a birdie on fourteen, not eagle, my bad. It
feels like an eagle.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
Okay, it feels it. It really does like an eagle. Yeah,
it's a really crazy, crazy green.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
But yeah, also it's called Kona mentioned Ownskoggin's had one
hundred percent circle one for all three rounds.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
It's just so amazing, so amazing.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
I mean, like it was a little windy.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
I feel like you guys had gusts here and there
and like consistent low wind.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
Right, Yeah, I would agree, that's pretty good. The top
three wait was Ella top three, Yes, sorry, she was third.
Top three.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
Holland Cadence and Ella all shot one thousand or better
rated on all three rounds, which is crazy.
Speaker 4 (19:11):
It's becoming more and more frequent, Like if you are
in the top five, you have to have at least
one thousand rated round in my opinion.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
Yep, which is so mind blowing.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
And then you also had a note in here Ellen
and Ellie Ezra about whole fourteen. I'm yeah, they both
birdied whole fourteen while the rest of the field averaged
five like bogie.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
On this part four yeah, yeah, And she.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
Said, you're like, with something like that, will DGBT change
the par for next year?
Speaker 4 (19:49):
Maybe if like the whole field, except for maybe like
you know, let's say ten out of forty to fifty
women are birdie or.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
Carring it the best I feel.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
Sarah Hokum even went so like the course designer was
like spotting on that hole and she literally on the
fairway was like, hey, you have you checked stats on
this hole And he's like, what do you mean And
she's like, well, it's averaging over par, like almost a
whole stroke, So like kind of being like, hey, dude, yeah,
(20:25):
that's he I think he was kind of baffled.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
Oh he was a little baffold that she said.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
I feel I was like a response, I would be like,
the pro tour has to figure out I think disc
golf as a whole has to figure.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
Out what we want. Do you want to make a hole?
Like so in that case, statistics.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
Stated that women were averaging five five strokes on that hole,
So does that mean that we want that to be
the par because that's the average or do you want
it to be Wait, sorry, if we made it a
par five, that would be bortiable, So then if you
out of four then it's easier to get that. It's
like I think we keep going back and forth with
(21:07):
the sport, like for men, for MPO, like Aanah got
fourteen down and it's like, okay, most of those holes
were birtiable for men, but then you couldn't ever say
that for FPO, like fpo's courses are never never seem
that bardiable. So it's like, as a sport, we need
to figure out do you want the holes to be
birdied or do we want them to be part because
I feel like that's where that question Like the answer
(21:29):
to that question would be, well, what's.
Speaker 4 (21:30):
Really interesting specifically about this hole is that the tea
pad was shorter last year. So it's like, if you're
going to argue the case of keeping the par but
changing the tea pad, there's like, well, the tapad was
shorter last year.
Speaker 3 (21:46):
We moved it.
Speaker 4 (21:47):
Back, so it's like, was it not in the right spot,
Like could it have been in a better placement? Like
I think, you know, it's just it's such an interesting conversation.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
Yeah, No, I think that's a good point.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
Something that's interesting that I feel like a lot of
people wouldn't know is so when we're doing planning meetings
with these events and we set tea times, we asked
them how long does your course take to play? Especially
with an event like this, we haven't had an elite
field go through the course, Like sure we had a
silver event, but like silver events weren't you know, it
wasn't the whole the torque card division. And so they
(22:21):
were saying that the course takes four hours to play,
like in tournament rounds. I have occult in this and
at the silver event it took about that time in
twenty twenty three, and they did make a couple of
slight changes. They basically made it a little harder and
so like you were talking about the tea pad is
a little bit further on that hole, Like that was
one of the changes. We started timing the rounds and
(22:44):
people were getting through it like two hours and fifty minutes.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
Isn't that crazy?
Speaker 3 (22:50):
Is that?
Speaker 4 (22:50):
Like first card fpo h.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
No, I think I was talking to Lucky and Lucky
said her around was two hours and fifty minutes. I
don't think that she was on one of the cards
of three.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
What the heck?
Speaker 4 (23:02):
Yeah, it's so weird how there's so many different because
like I was, you know, earlier in their day, and
I swear we waited forever on every hole, and then
Lucky was like, you know, more like later in the
day obviously, and it's like she she.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
Didn't wait at all. But the heck, it's so weird.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
That's crazy. But yeah, we didn't expect it. We as
the pro tour were telling the loc like, are you
sure it takes four hours?
Speaker 2 (23:24):
Like you know, you haven't had like an elite field
go through it, and they're like, oh, I don't know.
Like they were just going off history, right, so you
can't blame them. But now we know, now we know
that that course takes like three hours. I think at
most with the weather, it was like three.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
And a half.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Yeah, which is pretty standard, but still it's like, wow, uh,
you guys are quick.
Speaker 4 (23:42):
I think that's like a perfect that felt like the
perfect amount.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
Like the course.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
I like the course. I like the flow, I like
the like the wood that. I like the open I
like that.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
It takes three three and a half it doesn't take four.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
Yeah, it's like a solid course for it being three.
Like it's not like a really easy course by any mean.
I'd like to feel like playing quick.
Speaker 4 (24:02):
Like the warm up area was nice, like there was
a field to throw, but also nets places to park, concrete, like,
had a lot of the things that like a lot
of the pros like.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
For a DGPT.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
So yeah, go leave feedback. Many players are listening, go
give feedback.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
Okay, well let's get into the pet peeves because we
were talking about some of these over the weekend and
we're like, okay, we need to talk about this on
the episode. So Conab made a post on her Instagram
asking you guys about pet peeves. So there was a
bunch of comments on her post, and we also went
on the party Instagram and made a story and asked
for some of those two.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
So we have a good mix of answers here, So ConA,
I'll let you start, all right.
Speaker 4 (24:49):
We have disc golf Ali, which is Ali Smith said,
someone throws a shot, complains the entire time it's in
the air about how bad it is, and then it's
perfectly fine, probably in the bullseye. I can't stand it.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
I feel like when people do this, it's like a
head game thing. Do you think so?
Speaker 2 (25:08):
Yeah, I feel like I've been like kind of guilty
of that, and I never, like intentionally it's like, oh, shoot,
it came out of my like I know that it
came out of my hand wrong. But then it ends
up like working out.
Speaker 4 (25:18):
Well, you probably like, yes, you and I probably do it.
They're like once around this person sounds consistent.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's interesting. Perhaps mind games people.
Speaker 4 (25:29):
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Ellie ooh. Emily Weatherman says, playing
a practice round with men, you wait patiently at their
tea pad for them to throw however many shots they need,
and then when they get to my tea pad they
just walk right past it or walk past my lie.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
It's respect a respect thing.
Speaker 4 (25:48):
It really ruins the practice round.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
For me. Yeah, we can relate to this, can't we, Christine?
Speaker 2 (25:53):
I agree, Yeah, I feel like like inn our for us.
For instance, like if you and I play with our
significant others Barton Colton, I think they usually do a
pretty good job. But like if we just decide to,
you know, get in a practice round with a couple
random MPO players that were not really like we don't
have a relationship with or something, then I feel like
they just kind of start going off on their own
(26:14):
and you're like, hello, like back.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
Here, Yes, Colton, we've been married for howeverally long. But
else two we've been two years, one year, four years, right,
twenty twenty five, we've been married. We've been married two years,
three years, two years, three years two anyway, anyways, we've
been together for so long, we've played a million rounds together.
(26:38):
That man knows to wait for me. He's so patient,
he's so kind. And we had this instance this year
at an event where two men put themselves on our
cards because there was only like specific times you could
practice and everything was taken and Colton I had some
open spots, so they just like put themselves on our
(26:58):
cards and they kept like I would throw one shot,
and they would just assume that I was good, and
I'm like, I'm like you guys literally sat at your
tea pad and through seven shots you don't even remember
where half of them are and I literally only get
one shot. Like that I that I only want to
throw one shot. It's happened on several occasions where it's like, oh,
(27:19):
she threw one, Like sometimes yes, I'm gonna throw one
and like good kind of goal, but I don't know,
and it's just like I had it Colton think my
thankful my husband is awesome. At one point was like, hey, guys,
you know, do you mind like staying back longer?
Speaker 2 (27:35):
Yeah, like at least give you the time to like
assess how many you want to throw. Like if you
throw one and you're good, then you can be like okay, yeah,
like we're good and then they start walking, right, but like,
don't start like walking as I'm throwing my first shot.
Speaker 4 (27:48):
Yes, I don't know if it's just like a they're
not around a lot of women often, but it's like
treat like treat it like I'm just you're a broad player,
you know what I mean, Like it's not that big
of a deal, but you're making it seem like I'm
just like, it's so weird. So I understand you, Emily,
and yeah, for sure. I actually commented back to her
(28:08):
and I'm like, let's get a girls round.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
In aw en hands flight. DGI says has to be
the guy.
Speaker 4 (28:15):
Who asks if it's still his pad on every hole,
And actually I replied back to him and I was like,
oh my god, this is the worst. And he's like
he replied back to me and said it's like, dude,
yes it's still you. We all bogie the last hole
and you had a drop in Birdie and I laughed
out loud when I read this.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
Oh my god, it's so true, like like, are you
trying to rub it in?
Speaker 1 (28:38):
That's so funny, poor man.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
I feel you.
Speaker 4 (28:44):
Cam Cam cam Room said, nice layup.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
No, it was a run.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
I feel like people a lot of times say that
like to be funny, like as a joke, like clearly
you were like I'm going to give it your effort
and then it like the wind pushed it down or something,
and then they're like, oh, a nice layup.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
I'm gonna throw my ba.
Speaker 4 (29:08):
I Actually I played with someone recently too, and I
just think they're just the sweetest people in the world.
I just think they're trying to be positive. But part
of me thinks, like, like you say that kind of
stuff in like AM when it's like it's not for
money and it's not for ratings, and you can be
like okay, yeah, nice, layup, yeah nice and yeah nice try,
(29:30):
but like nice.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
Try yeah, yes, it's an AM thing you get to pro.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
I don't want to hear you say nice try to me.
Speaker 4 (29:41):
So I just lost three hundred dollars because of that
nice try, so thank.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
You for being so kind. But no, no.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
Really quick.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
While we're speaking of PRO, I guess any event really though,
this could be any AM or PRO. When you are
in a practice warm up area and you're practice putting, Christine,
bring it up.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
How many cutters do you use in a tournament?
Speaker 3 (30:18):
Right?
Speaker 2 (30:19):
Everyone's like preparing for a tournament. There's usually only like
one or two practice baskets. Everyone's just like putting, putting, putting.
You know, everyone putts, and then like you kind of
like wait for everyone to finish putting, and then everyone
goes in and gets their disc. Then you go back
out in the circle and you start putting. It's like
a rhythm right, how many putters is the adequate amount
of putters?
Speaker 4 (30:35):
It is respect Christine's respect too.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
Two it is too too and.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
Hand make absolutely agree.
Speaker 4 (30:43):
Yeah, Handa Macbeth who's not here to help state her
case and get sassy and jumpy and snappy with us
right now, she brought up a wonderful point three to
four putters is for putting practice. This is when there's
like a bag, like several different baskets, or you're at
a basket by yourself, or it's not.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
During a tournament, it's during practice.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
Talk about practice, you can bring three or four, Like, yes,
that makes sense, Like you want to get more reps
in blah blah blah. But she's like what she brought
up is like it should be two because that's warming up.
Speaker 3 (31:19):
You know.
Speaker 4 (31:19):
I'm like, preach Hannah Macbeth, Yes you only need two
because you're warming it up. You need four if you
need the reps and the mind stuff, you know.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
And also like when you like the rhythm that I'm
talking about right when there's one basket and you're like
playing a little local tournament and there's a bunch of
people around the circle and you're going in and out,
in and out, like, go get the disc, go back out,
Go get the disc, go back out.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
When you have more than two putters, do you not.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
Feel like all the eyeballs are on you as everyone
is waiting for you to finish your.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
Third or fourth or fifth putt. Yes, don't do that, Like,
don't do that.
Speaker 4 (31:58):
So I had this, and I really like this woman,
So I hope if she hears this, she doesn't think
I'm just talking crap about her.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
I love this person.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
But like I was at the point where I probably
had five more minutes before I needed to go, just
like watch my tea time. But I'm like, okay, get
two good puts in, you know. It's just like I
like to finish on two good pets. And I was
about to throw I like I did do my two putts,
and I was like, okay, throw two more.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
Feel good.
Speaker 4 (32:23):
And this person starts putting four and I'm like, I'm
I'm good.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
I'm good.
Speaker 4 (32:32):
I don't need any more or I'm gonna miss my
tea time like it.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (32:36):
So anyways, I would love to hear other people's thoughts
on this. This should be on the party podcast story.
I want to hear other people's pull.
Speaker 1 (32:44):
Two okay, moving onward.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
Christiansen five one five said littering, and I say, yes
a big pet peeve. Ad Martin said when someone starts
kicking their bag and throwing a fit during a bad
round brings down the whole card cards energy Yeah, hashtag warning.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
Oo, don't have confrontational kna.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
You like your bag in front of me. I wouldn't,
I wouldn't. I know a marshall. Her name is Christine Jennings.
Speaker 4 (33:24):
The no madic Brewer says, talking while I'm throwing and
walking past my life, I found the disc I agree
to talk in my backswing, you'll get a really dirty look.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
Yeah. Or like, I'll add on to this, if you're
like doing something in your bag or like zipping up something,
or like getting a snack and you're like in your
beef jerky bag and it's.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
Like crumbling in the background, Yeah, everything is dead silent.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
You can hear the birds chirping, and then like, I
don't want to hear you digging into your beef jerkey
bag or like zipping your bag up, like just wait.
Speaker 3 (33:59):
Yes you know.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
Yeah, So anyways, I just wanted to add that. So
that was a Cona's comment section.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
We also have a good handful from our Instagram story.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
So thank you guys for participating.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
I want to leave these anonymous because I feel like
it should be like if you're posting in the story anyways,
So some of the some of the answers here, when
people play slow and don't let you play through.
Speaker 4 (34:25):
The wor it's like you, I'm already on you. So
it's like, by letting me play through, it's just gonna
allow you to relax more like it's gonna take both
of our edges off.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
Yeah, And I feel like the people that don't let
people play through just like don't have awareness, Like they
must not have the conscience of like, oh, I have
people behind me waiting on every whole like they're just
not aware of it.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
Maybe they don't know, they don't like feel that energy.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
Is that real?
Speaker 4 (34:51):
Christy, I've sad like people who don't have how many
internal monologue?
Speaker 1 (34:55):
Maybe that would be.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
Kind of an interesting experiment, Like the people that are
oblivious is it because you don't have an internal monologue?
Speaker 4 (35:03):
My god, those are psychos, Like I don't those people
scare me?
Speaker 3 (35:09):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
But yeah, if you see people waiting on the teapad,
over and over and over.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
Maybe she'll let them go through. Please please, yeah, please? Okay.
Speaker 2 (35:20):
Another one people who stand too close when you throw
or put what do you think like an adequate distance
would be like that's your bubble, stay out of my bubble.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
I feel like like six.
Speaker 4 (35:32):
Feet six to ten feet like I had to get
on my caddy at Music City open. Excuse me because
one of my caddy guidelines is like staying close to me,
whether I need a disk or just in general, just
waiting around like I want you close. I don't want
to have to be like, hey you, I don't like that.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
Excuse me. I'm in Colorado, I'm so dry, I'm so ugh.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
But I had to tell my caddy. I'm like, hey,
I need you, just you back like you are in
my space. I feel I feel your aura.
Speaker 3 (36:04):
I don't. I'm trying to put like.
Speaker 4 (36:08):
I don't want to feel anything by me. You know.
It's funny, and I think we've talked about this before.
One of my favorite people in the world yours as well,
Rebecca Cox.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
Not that she gets too close to you, but she
has fancy.
Speaker 4 (36:20):
She is really bad ADHD. So give a girl a break.
But even when I'm not on the card with her,
and I see her in front of me. She's like
pacing back and forth behind the putter. She's like flipping
her diss she's she's practicing her putt. And I'm like,
Rebecca Cox, if I swear to God, if we play
together and I hear you rustle in rustling behind me,
(36:42):
We're gonna have to have to have a talk.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
Girlfriend, I love you, but woman, we.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
Love you, Rebecca.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
I have a couple more players that only make conversation
about their shots and nothing else.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
Man, do you have anything you say about this before
you do it?
Speaker 2 (37:00):
It's like it's kind of common courtesy to like not
talk about most shots in general, Like sure, if you
had a great like if somebody else had a great shot,
like oh yeah, a good shot, that's fine, But like
especially pre shot.
Speaker 1 (37:13):
I guess it's kind of it could be two different things.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
But like before, when you're on the teapad, no one
wants to know what you did on this whole last round.
Speaker 1 (37:20):
No one wants to know like how this hole should
be played, Like no one cares.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
They have their own game game plan. Let them throw
what they're gonna throw, and don't put other thoughts in
their head, and I feel like this kind of goes
with that.
Speaker 4 (37:33):
So I I analyze this differently because I know someone
who used to come off the disc golf course and
all they did was talk about their shots, and they
weren't like, hey, what'd you do on that hole? So
it was like, oh, all about what they did, Like, oh,
this is what I did, and then oh, this is
what this, this is what happened to me, And that's
(37:53):
what I thought that meant.
Speaker 3 (37:55):
But okay, I'm hearing that. Yeah that too.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
No, I mean I agree with you too, So both instances. Yes, yes,
Peppy Jail, I have one more over use of a rangefinder.
I wanted your thoughts on this long.
Speaker 4 (38:09):
I don't mind it, but there are a few cases where, girl,
you're over your thirty seconds. I know it because you
took seven years to find the basket and range your shot,
and then you took seventeen years to find your disc
and then find another disc because that disc wasn't good enough. Like,
I don't mind it if you stay within your thirty seconds,
(38:32):
but there's been so many times this year, especially like
with like three women that I know of that have
taken so long with their rangefinders, and I'm like, man.
Speaker 1 (38:41):
I have a pro tip.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
Just range your disc while someone else is throwing. Like so,
if you're my disc is in front of you, but
you're throwing right because you're behind me, and I'm I
should be behind you because you're throwing, so while I'm
waiting on you to throw your shot and not like
in the middle of you throwing your shot, but you
know you're getting set up to throw your shot.
Speaker 1 (39:01):
So let me just like range real quick. Sure, I'm
probably fifty feet behind my disc. Do quick math, like, okay,
if I ranged three hundred to the basket from there,
you could also range your disc from where you are
and do math like, oh, if that's my disc is
fifty feet away from me, the basket's three hundred feet
away from me, Boom two fifty right, Like you can
do all of that while you're.
Speaker 2 (39:21):
Waiting for someone else to throw, and then you walk
up to your light and you're ready to go.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
Well.
Speaker 4 (39:25):
I even had someone who had a caddy who was
doing it for her, and I felt like it was
it took even longer because then they were having like
conversation about it, like.
Speaker 3 (39:35):
How far was it? It was this far. How far was
the elevation? It was this far? What do you think
I should throw this?
Speaker 4 (39:43):
I feel like there were several times my card was
sitting there like waiting, but do a bastar.
Speaker 3 (39:48):
We weren't time inners, so we can't give me that
Harbard time. Yeah, real quick.
Speaker 4 (39:52):
Two notable people who did comment on this post was
Rebecca Cox and I said on the post initially that
one of my pet peeves is when people make noises
when someone throws a bad shot. So it's like if
I throw a bad shot and someone goes, oh, like
ooh oh, no oh, Like I hate that, Like I'm
already like so sad, and your noises, I'm so not happy,
(40:19):
but especially for other people, like I can like feel
their pain. I'm sitting there and I'm like, did you
really just that guy?
Speaker 3 (40:25):
Like leave her bee?
Speaker 4 (40:26):
Like, yeah's doing her best, She's doing her best. But
Rebecca said that that was definitely a pet peeve of
hers growing up, especially when her dad would make the
teeth sucking noise so that so Papa Papa Rebecca Cox
would go and make her really upset. And then we
also had Holly Finley. She said, caddies do that sometimes
(40:50):
and I heard it this past weekend a lot oh no,
uh oh oh dang well uh. Sometimes a player's shot
would land in the circle and the caddy would still
say no, like.
Speaker 3 (41:01):
Bro, why are you making those noises?
Speaker 4 (41:03):
It's the shot is twenty feet that's a good upshot.
Speaker 1 (41:07):
I could hear Holly saying that. That's I love her, like.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
Like, excuse me, sir, that was a good shot. Love you,
Holley Finley. I do love Holly Finly.
Speaker 4 (41:16):
So those were from our notable people that I just
wanted to mention Holly and Rebecca's but pet Peeves, everybody has.
You guys just got to work to learn to work
through them because otherwise they're just gonna bug the heck
out of you.
Speaker 3 (41:30):
Distract you. Yes, like those noises bug me.
Speaker 4 (41:33):
But it's like a one second like what the heck?
And then you move on.
Speaker 3 (41:36):
Learn to move on.
Speaker 4 (41:37):
Don't let it bug you too bad, otherwise it's going
to mess with your game.
Speaker 1 (41:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (41:43):
Well, after this week, I think everyone's starting to head
out west because the Champions Cup is in Stockton. It's
on the same course as the DISCOF Pro Tour OTB Open,
but now it is the major out in California this year.
Speaker 1 (41:59):
So that is next weekend.
Speaker 3 (42:01):
Yeah, first major the season.
Speaker 1 (42:02):
Yeah. So I think next week we might have another
fun episode. Maybe we'll have an interview. I don't know,
but for now, thanks for listening and we'll see you
next week.
Speaker 4 (42:14):
Thanks for partying, Bye bye.
