Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the Party Podcast, a celebration of professional women's disco.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
With plenty of hot takes, fun stories, and questions.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
I'm Handa Macbeth, I'm Christine Jennings, I'm ConA Montgomery, and
we are the Party Podcast.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
So what's happening right now? Is I am a spring? No,
I'm a cool summer and colors. I'm Hilary. I'm in
my colors and I wash my hair.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Wow, so you're just serving.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
I'm looking. I'm in my I'm where I should be.
I'm in my lane.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
I'm in my lane.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
What are your colors?

Speaker 4 (00:41):
Did you ever?

Speaker 1 (00:42):
I don't know. I remember that you said you were
getting that done. I don't know if you like, did
it actually professionally or if you like I don't mine,
that's crazy. Yeah, I never forgot mine done, but I
were black all the time, So I just tell myself
that black is my color. But I look good and
like muted colors, like olives and like maurs and moths
and browns. M Yeah, I don't know what that does

(01:04):
that fall into, like a fall or like an autumn vibe?

Speaker 3 (01:08):
I don't know, maybe like a winter. Do you look
good in like bold colors like like.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
Yes, like hot peds.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Yeah, yeah, you're probably like a winter interesting. I think
it's worth looking into because I'm a very natural person.
I don't like to wear a lot of makeup. I
don't like to, you know, get my hair done a lot.
So anything I can do to just stay in my.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Life accentuate your features.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
Yeah, people love listening about this. Christina and I are
doing the intro today because we're doing the top of
the show today because ConA is going to record an
interview with Rebecca Cox, which we'll plug in after we're done.
But we just wanted to get started with the show

(01:58):
and introduce the next to Discolf Protry event coming up
because it's a disc Golf Pro Tour plus event. It
is not the Portland Open, although it is happening in Portland.
It is called the twenty twenty five Northwest disc Golf
Championships and that is going to be presented by Latitude
sixty four. They're going to be hosting this at Mila

(02:19):
mcguiver State Park and Glendevie. In the past, we've had
Beaver State Fling and we've had Portland. Now they're kind
of combining them for like one Big Pacific Northwest Mega Tournament.
So how is it going on the ops side? Pre event?

Speaker 1 (02:34):
I think the one struggle is that the courses are
kind of far apart from each other. I think from
one course to another it's probably like forty five minutes.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Oh wow.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
So I guess for everyone's perspective, I guess depending on
where you're staying. But you know, from operations, you probably
have some needs at both courses. And so if you're working,
you know, and you're Glendevier and then you got to
drive to Milo, you know, you're kind of putting in
like an hour and a half of round trip time
to get from one course to another. And because the
same could go for players, you know, if you decide

(03:05):
to practice both courses on the same day or something,
that you have to drive that forty five minutes, which
is a little bit annoying.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
But this is one of the.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Only times that we have two courses that are like
that far apart.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
I feel like on a tour and.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
It's a plus event, I know that the course it
goes Milo, Milo, Glendevier, Glendevier, that I do know.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
So it's another thing that we've been talking about the
twenty twenty five season. It's another example of trying something new.
I think this might feel like a major, just the
four days and the different tournaments styles, not only the
point opportunities. Mila mcgiver is a significantly different track than

(03:48):
the golf course at Glendevie, so much so that people
I think will be really changing their entire bag. Milo
just is so tight, technical and wooded and there are
long carries, but like at Glendevier, a lot of artificial
obi but it's a lot of distance and then it's
a lot of accuracy approaching the green and reading the greens,

(04:11):
whereas at Milo it's wooded.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
Yeah, I kind of like they're approaching it though, like Milo, Milo, Glendevir, Glenevie,
because I personally prefer that better than alternating the courses.
Because Okay, so Thursday, you go to Milo, if you
make a couple of mistakes, you can like go back
the next day and immediately lock in. So it'sah, okay,
let me get my tight holes out of the way
first and then let's go to Glenevie, air out my

(04:36):
arm for the rest of the weekend and like kind
of readjust and hone in there. It's not constantly shifting.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
And I know there are people that probably think the
other way around, but yeah, or this is one of
This is the event that Page Pierce won over Haul
and Hanley and Sophia Dineki. We also had Cat Merch
playing well mis see gannon Ownskoggins, and I'm very excited
because we don't have Holland, Hanley and Ella playing well
here last year. With those high finishes, I think they're

(05:06):
on track to do something really great. I'm actually pretty
excited for Kona. I think her game is going to
shape up to play really well here. So since she's
not here, she won't listen to this until it's too late,
but I'm very excited for her. I get really excited
about tracks like this because I just think with women's
disc golf, it highlights everything.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
That you need.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
You need a well rounded game these days. It's not
just enough to have a good approach game. It's not
just enough to be a good putter. It's not just
enough to throw really far. You have to have the
whole package in order to be at the top, and
this is four days of that, so it'll be interesting.
I'm not really sure who I would choose if I
had to choose a winner, because everyone has just proven

(05:47):
so capable this year, so many women have improved in
areas where they've lacked. I wish this kind of was
a major because it does suck not having the European
talent because that's such a significant part of the FBO.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
And you were going over the twenty twenty four Portland
Open results from last year, the looking at the Beaver
State Beaver State fleeing results last year, just like to
name the top five, we had Hollan Hanley, Ownskogins, Natalie Ryan,
Missy Gannon, and Rebecca Cox. You literally mentioned those in
like the top seven that you noted in Portland.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Yeah, so they're.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Consistent names, and it's interesting to think, like, is it
consistent just because they were going through a streak where
they're like feeling their game, because you know how that happens,
you know, you just like start seeing somebody pop off
for a few events in a row, or do they
just play really well on those courses? Which is interesting because,
like we mentioned, Milo's very tight and Portland or Glendevere

(06:43):
is more wide open. So I'm curious to see if
we see any of these names up at the top again,
which I'm sure we will because these are very vable names.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
I'm wondering if it's going to be like an FBO
that just kills it in the woods, gets to the
top and then just gets like you know, sinks down
to the bottom. After two days at Glenda were so painful.
I hate that. Yeah, oh it's so painful. We do
have an interview with Rebecca Cox. Let's get into the

(07:13):
main meat and potatoes of this episode.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
Hey everyone, it's ConA Montgomery. I'm here with good friend
and fellow disc golfer Rebecca Cox.

Speaker 4 (07:34):
Hi, everybody.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
We are answering some fun questions from you guys from
the Instagram and also just some stuff that I think
you would love to know from both myself but also
all right, let's get started. So we have ab dot
shook from Instagram. She says, light bulb moments where something
clicked regarding form, mental game, et cetera.

Speaker 5 (07:55):
Hmmm, or something clicks like when you're like a little
around or something.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Well, I gus something clicked for you recently, Like for me,
it's been loading my wrist. For me, it's been like
loading the wrist on the putt like that was like
a light bulb moment. For the longest time, I'm like,
oh my gosh, like I had no idea I had
to load my wrists so much like that would be
my light bulb moment.

Speaker 5 (08:14):
Yeah, you know along those lines recently with my putt,
and I was kind of telling you about this yesterday,
is that when I was little and I would try
and put from further away, I would just like swing
my arm harder because that's just how I generated power
as a child. And now like teaching myself a spin
put it's I realized that it wasn't so much swinging harder,
but rather popping your wrist faster. So when I thought,

(08:37):
just pop your wrist faster, it really made the putt
feel a lot more effortless.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
It's funny because like I've recently like like pop, this
sounds like the emotion of a pop sounds weird to me,
or like like like how how how do I how
do I pop a putt?

Speaker 4 (08:51):
You know?

Speaker 3 (08:51):
So all right?

Speaker 2 (08:53):
What is a underscore is for autumn shadow autumn high?
What is the one thing that has helped you focus
on your putting?

Speaker 4 (09:01):
Focus on my putting?

Speaker 5 (09:03):
Hmm uh, A lot of it was pretty much just
getting out of my own head. I realized that I
put a lot better when I'm not thinking about the putts.
So I just get into my routine and really I
just focus on breathing.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
Yeah, I would agree with that for myself too.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
It's just literally what I've done recently is on the downswing,
I breathe in, and then on the upswing I breathe
out really fast, and I feel like it's just helps
with timing, but also it relaxes the body.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
I think, like you and I.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Talked about how yesterday, how like putting, especially like when
your muscles are tight. You know, that's when we both
feel like we miss or like mess up a lot.
So making sure like rolling out the body's good. But yeah,
breathing helps relax the tenseness. I guess, what's your favorite
disc currently by disc dot seeker.

Speaker 5 (09:54):
Okay, my current favorite disc and I actually just put
this in my bag a couple of weeks ago is
a Saint Pro in orbit.

Speaker 4 (10:02):
Saint Pro.

Speaker 5 (10:02):
It's my first time actually bagging Saint Pro, which is
crazy because it's like one of the oldest latitude discs
out there. I guess sorry, but it's a great diss
so I don't know what I was doing the past
seven years.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
This seeker also asked, how is it being sponsored by
Latitude sixty four.

Speaker 4 (10:18):
It's very fun.

Speaker 5 (10:19):
It's really cool to see how the team has just
grown over the years, and watching Kristen especially flourish.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
It's just been fantastic.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
Christine's cool and all, but Rebecca Cox is well on
her way up.

Speaker 4 (10:33):
Oh thank you.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
Autumn also asked what event are you super proud of
in the twenty twenty five season already?

Speaker 5 (10:42):
Hmm, super proud of Okay, Okay, I'm gonna say Cascade Challenge,
the one that just happened a couple of weeks ago,
because I kind of had like a mental block at
champions Cup and I was actually kind of dreading going
to Cascade because I was just so anxious about it,

(11:02):
and just going there and actually putting together some good
rounds was really nice, and getting a fourth place finish
at a wooded course.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
So yeah, all right, Canna.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Nickbeth asked us what's one PDJ rule you've broken that
you've never thought you would and then obviously tell the story.

Speaker 4 (11:21):
I never thought I would. I have mine. Okay, I
threw from the wrong disc so.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
I had my drive and then I had like two
discs in my hands. Put one down because I'm like, oh,
this is the one I want to throw. And then
when I threw my disc, I threw from the disc
I put down, and I immediately like looked at my
cardmates and was like, ah, I'm stupid, and I threw
from the wrong one practice throw and proceeded forward with

(11:51):
this stroke.

Speaker 4 (11:52):
Oh okay, I guess you know.

Speaker 5 (11:54):
I'm gonna have to go with my most recent one
because I can't really think of many. But I had
like a mass of footfall, and it was because my
drive head landed next to a tree and I didn't
want my hand to hit the tree. Subconsciously, I suppose
I like lined it up the way I wanted to
and everything, And when I followed through.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
I was like, wow, my arm didn't hit anything. Wow.

Speaker 5 (12:13):
And I look down and I'm like two feet behind
my line. And as soon as I see that, Sarah Hope,
I'm actually called the footfall on me and I was.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
Like, yeah, yeah, he was second hitch before.

Speaker 4 (12:25):
What is the best disc golf? April Fool's joke you
fell for or told?

Speaker 2 (12:30):
All?

Speaker 1 (12:30):
Right?

Speaker 2 (12:30):
Hold on, I knew This is a hand on Macbeth
question because on April Fools, I literally posted to my
story does anyone care about this day? Because I don't
understand it and I'm not wanting to Like RULs, so
I heard zero.

Speaker 5 (12:45):
I'm a pretty gooble person, so I'd probably say the
first few posts I probably saw on Instagram that day,
I'd be like, oh my gosh, wow, you.

Speaker 4 (12:52):
Know how like companies like to do. Yeah, I know,
like big stupid things.

Speaker 5 (12:55):
I'm like, Wow, that sounds kind of dumb. And then
I'm like, oh, I'm dumb. I can't I'm believe in
it for a second.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
I'm the problem. It's me. Okay, So you can't remember
any I can't remember any specific ones.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
Didn't of one was like the I think we did
like the Halo a Halo pol Cat How was a
good one?

Speaker 1 (13:14):
All right?

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Do you feel safer playing on a private course versus.

Speaker 4 (13:18):
Public You know, it's hard to say.

Speaker 5 (13:23):
I don't feel particularly unsafe playing public courses really, but
I also don't. I also try not to play when
a lot of people are there. Okay, So I'm saying
like on days that's not gonna be busy, like during
the week, or something.

Speaker 2 (13:36):
Really, I would do the opposite, really like, I would
prefer people to be there if I was by myself,
because then there's more people around in case someone wants.

Speaker 4 (13:43):
To be creepy weird.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Odd if there's no one around and someone comes out
creeping on me, I won't love that.

Speaker 4 (13:50):
M Okay, you're right, You're right.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
I guess it depends on the situation. Suddenly private, I
know who's going to be there. You're paying to be there,
so one the course is probably going to be ten
times cleaner, nicer, have more amenities. I'm not alone by
myself a lot. Rebecca Cox is one of the most
independent people I know in my life, so this question
kind of doesn't matter for her because she is not scared.

Speaker 4 (14:15):
She's strong and dependent.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Well, so I would say private personally, okay, but Rebecca,
she'd fight anyone she could get your head.

Speaker 4 (14:25):
What do you think.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
About these extra DGPT events such as All Star match
play and skins.

Speaker 5 (14:32):
I think they add a fun little flare. People like
to see, you know, different versions of us competing against
each other. I think match play is actually really fun,
going to head to head. It's such a different mental
aspect to it. It's like at Cascade Challenge, I went
head to head with Missy and that was really fun
because it was like it didn't matter what you really
got on the whole, you just had to beat this

(14:52):
one person.

Speaker 4 (14:53):
So I really think they're fun.

Speaker 5 (14:55):
It would be nice if they kept them pretty dispersed
so that way it's not like right before right after
big tournaments. But other than that, I think they're fun.
I think they're great for a sport.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Do you think they should be their own event in
the sense of like a full weekend and like maybe
more things mixed in, like challenges or like in Worlds
we have like you know, accuracy.

Speaker 4 (15:18):
Challenges or you know, match play, Like it'd be cool
to see it.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
Maybe kind of blown up more instead of like a
one day, two hour or deal and then it's done, because,
like you said, I think it's really fun to see
pros battle it out.

Speaker 5 (15:31):
Yeah, I think removing the distance and the accuracy and
all that from All Stars was you know, I.

Speaker 4 (15:38):
Think people really like that. I think so I think
if they had like a.

Speaker 5 (15:41):
Showcase of some sort, because I know, like some people
just like to show off, and people like to watch
like really really good throws and everything. So I think, yeah,
that idea of like a showcase of some sort where
people can just like maybe not even compete against each other,
just kind of just show off to everyone, all right.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
In the off season, we see pros put their discs
away and we see some keep competing.

Speaker 4 (16:03):
Which side did you lean towards?

Speaker 5 (16:05):
I try to have a healthy mix of both. I
think when I first get into the off season, that's
when I play the least disc golf because I'm trying
to just settle into a new routine, figure out what
I'm going to do, start a more rigorous workout routine,
stuff that I don't really get to do during the season,
you know, obviously spend time with friends and family and such.

Speaker 4 (16:25):
But once it's like after a few weeks.

Speaker 5 (16:28):
That's when I start to play more disc golf and
try to be more competitive. I try to play some
tournaments in the off season as well, just so I
can keep the competitive juices blowing.

Speaker 4 (16:36):
But I mean, it depends on the person. Some people
don't like to do that.

Speaker 5 (16:39):
Some people like to play every weekend and almost like
you know, almost like it's not in an off season.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
But I like to have a little bit of both.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
Yeah, I like an off season. I just think it's
good for the mind and the body. And like you said,
like we never see our family during the year, so
like just spending time with everyone for those few months
from it's Sparky's house, this is my dog, this has
to be my mom or my dad.

Speaker 4 (17:02):
One thing you love about.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
How women's side is evolving, and one thing that needs
to catch up payouts baby that has evolved massively. I
mean DGPT shout out to them. They started paying fifty
percent of us. They only do like forty percent for
the guys, so it's like extra love for the women
on that side. Promotion wise as well. I think that

(17:25):
would be the biggest thing. And then something they need
to work on.

Speaker 5 (17:30):
I would say maybe like course design, like it's it's
over the years, but I think sometimes especially on tour,
they make adjustments to holes to make it harder for
MPO and in turn it affects.

Speaker 4 (17:44):
Our division a lot.

Speaker 5 (17:45):
Sometimes you know some holes, it's like why is this here?

Speaker 4 (17:48):
And you know what I heard what tell us for Florida.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
At the Supreme Flight Open, they designed the course for
MPO and FPO was a second thought, like they're like,
oh oh, this is like the layout for the men,
and then someone was like, well, what's the FPO layout
and they're like, oh, we should probably add that.

Speaker 4 (18:07):
Yeah, that's that's it seems pretty typical.

Speaker 5 (18:11):
Yeah, FO design seems to be like an afterthought or
just like putting a shorter teethad here.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
Do you know how cool it would be if someone
was like, I'm making a course, it's specifically for women.

Speaker 4 (18:21):
Every layout is.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
For the women first, and then we'll design the longer
layout after something.

Speaker 4 (18:28):
I don't know, it just like it feels.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
It would be really cool to see someone like specify specifically.

Speaker 5 (18:34):
Yeah, like intentional course design for FPO And it's a
little catching up.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
But that's it for the questions with Rebecca Cox. Make
sure to follow her on all of her instagrams. And Rebecca,
do you have anything to say or shout out before
we head out?
