Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the Party Podcast, a celebration of professional women's
discolf with plenty of hot takes, fun stories, and fan questions.
I'm Handa Macbeth, I'm Christine Jennings, I'm ConA Montgomery, and
we are the Party Podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Hello. Every time I listen to our Stinkin' intro, I
think of the time where we first recorded it and
you went, I'm ConA mont Gamory. So that literally goes
through my head all the time. Whenever I'm like thinking
about you, or I need to reach out to you,
or someone says your name, I'm like, I'm Commake Gamory,

(00:41):
give me, how are you?

Speaker 3 (00:47):
I'm toasty because Europe doesn't do air conditioning soever or
friends no, And I was read an article about how
like there are more deaths in Europe because of heat
than there are like people dying in America from gunshots
or something crazy. So I'm like blown away. Obviously, we

(01:09):
have like every single window open, fans going, and it's
just it's so toasty. I think it's overly hot for
Finland this year.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Yeah, honestly, I feel like they say that every year.
I think, just in denial, like it's summer.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Like when is it gonna snow.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
They're like, it's so hot. I can't believe how hot
it gets here. It's never this hot. I'm like, stop,
it is always as hot. But so you are a
European adventure. That's exciting. I am good. I was meant
to be on this European adventure, but I took myself
out of it. Harrison tore his acl in a basketball

(01:52):
game and shoot the breeze and no, my dog. I
think he tripped in a hole in our backyard from
we sometimes have armadillos burrowing around so if you don't
catch them, and like, they'll just keep burrowing and digging
holes and they'll dig all over your yard. And I

(02:12):
think that's what happened, and he tripped in one got
really stiff, and we were trying to figure out if
he just pulled something and needed some time, and took
him to the vet. They did X rays and he
needed surgery. So he had surgery during the first European Tournament. Okay,

(02:32):
and so he's just been yeah, and this is like
a very major surgery for dogs. It's extremely common for
big dogs and for dogs in general. I guess, but
I was already feeling kind of weary about going, and
so when this happened, it gave me more of a
reason to just stay home. And so Pabula and I

(02:53):
have been home and we've been doing long distance and
it's not I don't know, it's hard to I feel
like I'm a so I'm solo parenting this whole time,
and my days fly by, and there are things about
what we're doing that I miss my husband. But it
would be so much more miserable if I wasn't so busy.

(03:14):
So that's a good blessing. But yeah, so we're not there,
and it's kind of been great for him, I feel,
because he's just we're about to talk about this. But
during the European disc Golf Festival, after the second round,
like I think twenty men shot better than him that day.
I think he shot a seven down and like twenty

(03:34):
people shot better than him. That's a significant amount of people.
And he texted me and was like, Hey, I just
finished my round, but I'm gonna go to the practice green.
I'm just gonna go work on my putt and try
to figure out like what's going on why I'm not
in the rhythm. And then the next day he shot
fifteen under. So I can tell you that if we
were there, I don't think he's going to the practice

(03:57):
Green for as long as he needs because it's just
it's different when we're on tour.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Yeah, he wants to be with you guys.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Yeah. So it's kind of been a blessing for both
of us to just have to deal with I've been home.
I have been able to work on myself and like
eat the way that I want to eat, and take
care of the family the way that I want to
and he's been able to just work on his game.
So it's kind of been a really nice change. But
I also feel really bad for him because he doesn't

(04:26):
have Pablo. I have Pablo, so well you too. I
wanted to talk really quick about the Creator's Cup Challenge
because we were a part of that and it was
so fun. What was that like for you?

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Well, I think we could have won. I think we
were very close to winning if one my puts were
like two weeches higher, because I feel like I was.
They were just so close that they were just cajun.
But then I had like I tried to go for
a shot on like eighteen, and I'm like, man, like,
if we would have actually like maybe play a little
bit cleaner. I think we would have taken it, But

(04:59):
I had so much I loved like the little games
we had in between. Panna brought these sport guns that
made it so much more fun. Like people from like
the other teams were like taking and a messing with
like other people, so it was just like it was
such a chill vine compared to like a normal skins
match or something that you guys see on like you know,

(05:21):
go throw or whoever does those, So it's just like
different vibe. And like the creators were creating media during
like I know that what is his name, bro Derek
Broderick Broderick, He was like creating media silas like during
the video during like the Creator's challenge, and then he

(05:42):
was like posting it afterwards, so it's like you got
to see it from dgpt's perspective, but then you also
got to see from his perspective after he like post
produced everything. But I think they should do more of those,
like get more like different kinds of people involved, like
j Milly, Like he had so much fun. It was
really cool seeing him like out in like the real

(06:03):
world and not just online and I don't know, what
do you think? Like, I had so much fun and
you had so much fun. It seemed like Christine was
enjoying herself.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
That was my biggest takeaway was it reminded me why
we all love disc golf, and it's because it's so fun.
I that is my favorite thing to do. I played
college disc golf, and it felt like that all the time.
You would go out on the course and you practice
with your friends and you'd get on random cards with
random teammates. But they were so just like silly and fun.

(06:36):
So the bits that I ran was that when I
showed up, I'm older these days than a lot of
the content creators, and so I showed up with glasses
and like a sun hat, and I was asking everybody
for their permission slips, and I was asking, like Silas
and Gannon and that group, like do you guys have
your permission slips? Like can I see? And Silas was like,
oh no, I don't, and I was like, okay, I'm sorry,

(07:00):
You're not gonna be able to participate today. And it
was so sit out. And then we showed up with
squirt guns because I was under the impression that this
was for fun, like we were gonna all the content
was going to be us making fun of each other,
mocking each other, goofing around like being obnoxious. And then

(07:21):
they said on the whole one, the winner gets two
thousand dollars, and I was like, oh, but I'm still
gonna squirt all of these stupids with my squore guns.
And so then I ended up doing that, and I
think everyone was really slow to warm up, and like
the longer the round went on, the more undone everyone became. Yes,

(07:47):
Like that's what led to Alden shooting Gammon with a
squore gun while he's trying to put on like the island. Yes,
what led to the chaos is just like everyone just
slowly chilled out and had fun. And I was like,
that's my favorite way to play the sport. We all
know that if we have three or four tries, we

(08:08):
can hit lines perfectly, and we can make all of
our putts. We can do stuff. And yeah, you know
in certain YouTube challenges, maybe you do that, maybe you
do take a couple takes and you hit big puts
and it like translates really good on YouTube. But for
something like this, it was so fun to just like
be silly and stupid and like randomly, what was that

(08:32):
thing when we had to spin the wheel and you're like,
I hope I don't have a thumber or you hope
I don't have a grenade, and then you might be
on it twice.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
And I'm like, Simon, how do I throw it?

Speaker 2 (08:41):
And he goes okay. The first thing like so sincere,
he goes okay, the first thing you're gonna want to
do is not get injured, like totally okay.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Great. Sweet.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
So this is the stuff that I wish we could
do more of in disc golf. But I think it's
hard to watch something like that from the TV. It's
hard to commentate on something like that. You really have to,
like I even miked up stuff like that where it's
like post produced and you catch all the bits that

(09:14):
you want and you can go through it and you can.
I think that stuff is much more entertaining than just
waiting for a James Conrad moment again and hoping that
you have enough cameras to capture it. I agree, But yeah,
it was really fun to participate in. I really appreciated
being included. So there's that.

Speaker 3 (09:35):
Yeah, we were the only ladies. I mean come on
next time. I would like to see more ladies.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
Well. Skipping ahead to the major. Over the weekend we
had the European Disc Golf Festival. We've had a couple
European events. We haven't been able to cover any of
them because Christina's in Japan, Kona. You've been bouncing around
from country to country, a place to place. I have
been a solo parent, so my time blocks are very

(10:13):
won like they're very consistent, but they're also not at
the same time. So like I put Pablo down today
for an app at twelve and he just fell asleep
ten minutes ago, and at the time of recording it
is twelve fifty six pm. So it's hard to like
stay on a schedule. But I just want to get
ahead to the major. We can talk about other things
if they pop up, but the European Disc Golf Festival

(10:36):
a major in Estonia. This is the first time huge
headlines coming out, huge opinions. Let's start with the venue
in the course, So I did not realize it's called
the rock Star.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Yeah, that's kind of also iteration.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
I kind of like that. I'm tired of like the
Monster and the Beast and like the the b East
and like all the weird like and then you have Northwood.
I'm like wowow. And then they came up with like
the different layouts and they just come out with colors
like they're like Northwood black blue, Maple Hill red white. Anyway,

(11:18):
The rock Star, located in Tall in Estonia, is a
unique and scenic disc golf destination situated within the iconic
Song Festival Grounds, a historic site known for its large
choral events. The course offers a blend of open spaces
and wooded areas. The layout features a variety of challenging
holes with elevation change and strategic obstacles that cater to

(11:40):
different skill levels. The courses setting within the cultural and
historical context of the festival grounds provides a distinct and
picturesque environment for disc golf. Its design emphasizes both technical
skill and strategic play, making it a noteworthy stop for
the discolf enthusiasts visiting Estonia.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
So, I mean it just being like a historic grounds,
you have that feeling when you're there, almost like USCGC,
Like there's just a lot of history, not even like
discof history though, like just history in general. But showing
up I would say, like you know, there's like a
huge player banner, and then like you show up and
there's two ladies sitting there at a desk and they're like, Hi,

(12:20):
please take your shoes off. You're going to go do
a photo shoot. The photo shoot is for the video
that's going to pop up when you get called out,
you know, when you go tea, and so it's like
initially like oh my gosh, like me, like, I get
to go do a photo shoot?

Speaker 2 (12:36):
Did you know that beforehand?

Speaker 3 (12:38):
No, So personally I show up in my just in
of a polo, show up in a polo and random hat.
I didn't even addem my hair done or anything. And
then so I ended up coming back the next day
with like my full get up and was like, Hi,
I hate to be this person. Can I please redo mine?
Because I was not wearing all my little goes. My

(13:01):
sponsors would not like that, and he was like good,
He's like I can, We'll see if they can use it,
though I already sent in your other one and I
was like okay, but they were able to use it
and everything, which, you know, shout out to the team
for being able to do that. But I feel like
my favorite part about this event is that they made

(13:24):
a group chat in Instagram with all of the players
and so we could all like they got information was fast.
It wasn't like in an email where it's like some
people don't check their emails, and so it's like information
came in like super quick. And then if like players
had something to say, like they would reply super fast
as well, and so it's like it was all real time.

(13:48):
But like the course itself, like they had like leg
uncompressed you know, thingies that like recovery stuff, massage guns,
a foot massage or thing. So they had a lot
of stuff for like the players before they even went
up to the actual like tea of whole one. But
like and this is this might be silly for me

(14:09):
to say, but maybe it's my opinion. The course itself,
I wouldn't say it's like incredible, Like I think it's
tough in the sense that there's tons of O B.
So it's like if you're not throwing in the fair way,
like you're you're struggling a lot. Like for the women,
like there was a lot of women taking like eight
OB's around and it's like round roomer, You're done, you

(14:32):
know what I mean? And so it's like, if you
don't have distance accuracy off the tee, I think you're.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
Struggling on this course.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
But it's funny that it mentioned elevation in that little
snippet that you read, because I wouldn't say there's a
ton of elevation on this course, like maybe slightly, but
it's not like a cro Col like cro Col elevation
up and down steep, like twenty feet up and down here.
I would say, it's like it's like five feet ten

(15:01):
feet for the course, But I get I guess. I
would just say like they took care of the players.
Everything was set up so professional. They had so many
different vendors, people their support and like be a part
of the event. But it's like it's not like my
favorite course in the world. But then there's some people
like I told you, like Jennifer Allen was like, oh

(15:22):
my gosh, I think this is my favorite course of
all time, and I'm just like kind of scratching my
head and I'm like, oh my gosh, we play incredible
courses like this, this is really your favorite course of
all time, And I don't know.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
It was like a lot of Fountain Hill comparisons where
it was kind of just like this really beautiful venue,
a lot of stuff about it. You would it's very picturesque,
But then the actual golf itself wasn't. It was very
basic skill sets that it was testing. There wasn't anything

(15:55):
really super challenging. And if you just were a little
bit off, like you said, it's not like we're going
to play the beast soon at you're a peen open
and like or not even close. Yeah, not even close.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
And I feel like what I thought was really interesting.
And this could be controversial because a lot of people
say there shouldn't be like trees inside the circle or
you know, they need to be like outside the circle. This,
of course, I felt like had no obstacles within circle too,
Like they weren't testing an anti put or a strat
of putt like I feel like on most all, at

(16:29):
least ninety percent of the greens out there, you could
just put normal. Like It's like it didn't really test
like different kinds of situations in my opinion. So I
don't know, have you been there? Did you go last year?

Speaker 2 (16:42):
Yeah? I went last year. I remember the food being amazing.
It was, yes, all of the amenities for fans in
Europe are always spectacular. They really really take care of you.
It's I think in the US at a lot of
the events that I'm used to going to, it can
kind of be an afterthought, like you know, off the

(17:04):
top of my head, Like Maple Hill, for example, Steve
Dodge had that tournament and he built the fan experience
after like much later, like he's still not on their
level at all whatsoever. But for the golf itself, that's
what it's famous for. And I think European disc golf

(17:26):
coming along later places have just really capitalized on the
opportunity to provide amazing amenities for fans and spectators and
also players. Like having a warm up area is super common,
it's not a surprise, having really clean bathrooms and private
for like the tournament, and having somewhere to go after

(17:48):
year round where you're not just like on the property
with everybody else. There's a lot of privacy. There's a
lot of pomp and circumstance. I do remember that. I
remember the amount of banners everywhere I stops with Kristen's
face on them. I remember the tickets with her face
on them. Just how special and how intense this was

(18:12):
for her. In the US, we have tournaments where Cat
Merch is the hometown hero of Jonesboro and Arkansas, and
that's a really significant thing. But she's not on the tickets.
The city of Arkansas or the city the state of
Arkansas isn't, you know, giving fifteen thousand dollars towards the event.

(18:36):
And we've seen, i think speaking to the event itself,
I've seen a lot of commentary about the support from
Estonia of this event, and I think it makes sense
to me, and we do see that in discolf in
other places, but it really just depends on if the
tournament is in with a local government. Yet we see

(19:00):
a lot of support from parks and rec and the
city of Illinois. Oh my gosh. I keep saying that
the city of Illinois, the city of Peoria supports the
ledge Stone Insurance Open like crazy. And that's part of
the reason why Heinold hosts the player's party where he
does like at that hotel, because Moren gives so much money,

(19:21):
Peoria gives so much money, and that's huge, and that's
a lot to do with him, just like advertising and
going and seeking out those contributions. Paul, I know, for
the Supreme flight open their parks and rec and also
they're are not parks and rec for that tournament. It's tourism.
Was super excited about them having this event, and they

(19:43):
wanted to know, like how can we help, how can
we support? So I don't think it's fair to take
our country and compare it to theirs and just be like, oh,
they're doing it all right. I think we can have
what they have on a smaller scale because our country
is so big. It would be kind of weird for
them to be like for like Donald Trump to show
up like you know, or whoever our president is at

(20:05):
the time, and the way that like the president of
Estonia went all right, was rumored to have shown up
and like god, yeah, it's so it's a little bit different.
I could see like a like the mayor goes to
like like we've had mayors come out all the time,
Like that would make that would be very similar in

(20:25):
my opinion. But yeah, I think the venue is amazing.
I agree with everything that you said, But the disc
golf itself, I think it's a good course for FPO
right now. I think it's a good style of course
for our field to test those things, and it creates
a lot of scoring opportunity, which creates a lot of
nerves and a lot of excitement as we saw I

(20:47):
mean Kristin in the final round, good grief. But I
really like that opportunity. I think that there's a place
for courses like this, and it's also so fun to spectate.
I think if I had to choose the European Open
or this one, I would probably suggest going to this
one because the festival grounds are really fun. The city
of Tallin is just so gorgeous and like well preserved,

(21:12):
and then people are spending a lot of money to
come here to engage with disc golf, and you get
to see the shots, you get to see the putts
you can I don't know, I think tournaments like this
should exist. I'm not in the mindset of like and
I don't think you are either. I didn't get this
from your analysis. I just am not in the mindset

(21:35):
of like, well it was too easy, so I guess
we won't come back here, or like they need to
change it all like immediately. I just think some things
could be stretched out, and if they're going to be easy,
they need to be aware of that. I don't really

(21:59):
like use that word easy either, because I know Ricky
Waisaki said one time in an interview, when the nerves
are there, the easy things become the hard things. Yes,
And I think that's what we're seeing with this tournament,
and that's why I love it so much. It is
very straightforward, but there is a lot of punishment too.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
Yes, and I think you hit the nail on the
head when you said, oh my god. Yes, yes, because.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
I think this.

Speaker 3 (22:25):
I honestly like the course maybe isn't the most challenging
thing in the world, but I think this is what
we're looking for in the future of disc golf, where
spectators are able to walk around. It's not like a hike.
It's not like you're doing crokhole where it's like, oh
my gosh, I have to hike fifteen thousand steps. It's
very easy to walk everything. I mean, Tournament Central has food,

(22:47):
it has games, it has vendors, it's easy to get to.
You can walk into the arena watch hold one cramzy shots.
I think that's I think, honestly, that's what we're looking
for in the future of disc off. It's easy. It's
almost like why pickleball taking off, because oh my gosh,
because they're one place. They the camera going back and forth,
Like I feel like that scenario of that tournament is

(23:10):
exactly what we're probably going to see more of in
the future.

Speaker 2 (23:13):
How'd you feel about Whole one because I heard some
negative feedback just about the simplicity of the whole and
the comparison was whole one here versus a whole one
at Maple Hill. Sorry am I my phone's on. Apparently
Whole one here is kind of straightforward, get it out

(23:34):
as far as you can, kind of like throw a
bomb in front of the crowd and feel really cool
and having your name announced. And I'll let you speak
to that because I'm just guessing because I haven't done it.
But and then from there, you're approaching and you're doing
the same thing at Maple Hill. You're throwing down over
the pond. They have that saying like it's just the pond,
Get over it. You've got all the crowd behind you,

(23:56):
you've got Christmas trees though, you've got you know, the
elevation changed, you've got footing things, and then you have
to go through a triple Mando to get to the green.
And I just want to know the feedback that I
heard was that the whole one was a little boring
because you get like the smoke screen or whatever it is,

(24:17):
and then they announce your name and you come out
and you throw, and it's just kind of like yeah, okay,
like here we go, you know, and then you go
and you just kind of throw again, and it's like bohoo,
but you're not going to see anybody like throw in,
You're not. It just felt a little bit lacking for
I think only to.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
Yeah, I will say I don't know a ton of
women who have experienced throwing downhill that steep, like I
saw at least like most of my cards, I had
at least one woman on my card throw of you left.
I think it's because like they don't quite understand throwing
with like the slope and like because it's like the
teethpat is obviously flat and you know, a normal shot

(24:55):
you're throwing like flat or whatever, but it's like once
you have to like aim low. I think a lot
of people don't really understand that concept. Yeah, I don't
really think they'd get the nose. So I think for someone.

Speaker 2 (25:06):
Really quick, if you're struggling with nose and you're listening
to this. Paul always told me to watch Ken Climbo
throw because he's very His way of throwing the disc
was you had to really pay attention to that, and
his follow through was like very specific. So he's he
used to like when he was telling me and teaching

(25:27):
me way back in the day, like ten years ago,
Oh my gosh, teaching me about nose angles and wind
reads and all that stuff and slopes, and he was saying,
like follow through really low and like like really think
about your release and like your hand and stuff. He's like,
don't be worried about throwing it. Oh my gosh, there's
little bubbles. Why don't we always do this to us

(25:49):
in the middle of our podcast? We always pop up
on our faces. And he said to the listener, where
did it come from? When is it like doing this?
Stop it anyway? Can climb O go check out his
like his videos back in the day. T Yeah, but
I think you're right. Angles are that's it? I mean,

(26:09):
but that's the beginner concept for sure.

Speaker 3 (26:12):
But it's like I will agree with the whole one,
Like it's not insanely crazy because like even though one
of the women that I mean, she's in the lead
the first round. I think Cynthia from It's the media, right, No,
I'm sorry, Soynpia my bad, but she went ow b
but she went from the drop zone, threw a shot,
threw up and she stayed par where it's just like

(26:34):
if you're throwing like ob like, I feel like it
should be more punishing than just like, oh I can
throw another hiser, another heiser, boom, I took my par
you know.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
Yeah, that's kind of what I've been hearing. But I
will say to close out the thoughts, I think you
said it really well where we need accessible to venues
because like time tell you, you're.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
Not getting spectators over it out there unless you're Viking,
you're not even able to go to some of the holes.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
Yeah, I And it's tough, like because you don't want
to take that. And same thing with you know, like
oh my gosh, Green Moountain Championships.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (27:11):
I have family that lives in New Isstan and they're older.
They can't they can't go and do that. And you
can camp along eighteen and that's a really fun hole
to watch the finish. But that's all you get, you know.
I think I think being in that grandstand and kind
of being able to look out in view is really cool.
And I'm I'm also thinking of the course that we own,

(27:35):
like Olympus is not spectator friendly either, Like it's not
really so it's just something that costs money and it's
got to just be something that you invest in. And
that's why I'm so appreciative of European disc golf, because
even the Norwegian tournaments, like watching that whole eighteen watch,
don't you feel like it's a painting? Looks like you're

(27:58):
in a painting. You just blew sk dude into a painting.

Speaker 3 (28:01):
Like like, are you a mom?

Speaker 2 (28:05):
I remember being there, Yes, I remember being there with Pablo,
and there was kids everywhere, there was food, there was
space away from the green where if he made a
noise or laughed or went whoa, I didn't feel like
I was going to throw anybody off and I could
still watch. And I think that's missing in disc golf.
I don't think it's very it doesn't cater to people

(28:26):
who need a break or people who are handicap excess,
like it's not very handicap accessible, and so venues like
this are just so so so great. We really appreciate
them a lot. We did have the A Superstar Challenge

(28:55):
that was for free on YouTube, and this led to
a big conversation online, as it usually does anything in
disc golf, the major to watch it costs extra money
unless you have a DGN pro account. You have a
DGN pro account, and I know because I borrowed it
and then I went up. I went and just like
signed up for one because for this long distance thing,

(29:17):
I was like, I want to be able to watch everything.
Use O thanks with a PDGA membership discount. DGN is
seventy dollars a year. It's sixty nine dollars, but let's
be honest, it's seventy dollars and that gives you access
to all of their content. But Dgnpro is one hundred

(29:38):
and forty dollars a year, and that gives you access
to their entire library of content and the majors, the
big events like all of that. So either way, whatever
you want to do, you're saving sixty dollars if you
have a PDGA membership, which is a great part partnership
and I really appreciate it. But people are getting so

(29:59):
ti of the subscription models where you have to buy
into a product, and then the content that you're buying
into the product for is still not available unless you
pay even more. Yes, okay, I have a Hulu subscription,
so I get their whole catalog and ads. If I'm like,
you know, I've been watching Hulu for a while, I
don't really want ads anymore. Now I'm like paying for

(30:21):
Hulu with no ads, so it's a little bit more money.
I've been paying with Hulu for no ads. Oh, NFL
seasons coming up, and Hulu has the live option, so
I'm like, well, I want to watch the games. So
now I'm gonna pay for a little bit more for
Hulu with no ads and live. And then I'm like,
oh my gosh, one of my favorite movies, like oh yeah,
like let's get it all together, Like let's watch that movie.

(30:42):
It's available on Hulu with a subscription. Because now you
have to be like, oh, I don't have the HBO
tag on or like add on, so now I want
to watch this movie. But now I have Hulu, I
have the no ads, I have Live, and now I
want to watch this movie and their catalog but I
don't have access to it, and it is kind of
so ridiculous because you do that with all of the

(31:05):
other subscription models, and there are so many, and it's
so frustrating because people are subscribing to DGN for that content.
They're rarely subscribing to DGN for the documentaries that they
do for the post round like Joma's stuff. Like people

(31:26):
are subscribing to the disc Golf, like the disc Golf
Network for the live coverage. And I'm just getting really
frustrated with the penny pinching without much of an explanation
in this community. I just feel like it's getting really frustrating.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
Well think about okay, think about everything you just said,
and now think about us being in Europe for the
last four weeks. Like we're not even on the same
time zone, so when we're playing our rounds, most everyone's
asleep over in the USA. So it's like, Okay, you're
paying all this money, and okay, we just have a
major I had my friend Steve saying, oh, I watched

(32:03):
you for four holes and then I had I fell asleep.
He's like, I couldn't watch you any longer. I was
so tired. And so it's like we have all these
people paying for the subscriptions for what you're peing to
Scolf Festival for Worlds and then half the time that
I didn't even watched it live because we're in a
completely different time zone.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
Yeah, I guess I just want crystal clear clarity on
the cost breakdown of like why do you need me
to pay for that whole catalog of content? And then
also now I have to pay extra, but most people
don't even care about that catalog of content. Most people

(32:41):
just want to watch the tournament. You know. I know
that things cost money. I'm not stupid, like I'm I'm
just tired. I'm tired of paying all this actually being like, hey,
can we have an extra ten dollars because hmm it's
a major And I'm like, what does that happen in
this to do with it? What do you mean on me?

Speaker 3 (33:01):
Why?

Speaker 2 (33:02):
Yeah, she's like seven more cameras, Like, am I gonna
get four more cards of coverage? Don't even get me
started on that because they'll be like, oh, here's the
lead card and then they're like soich, here's someone on
the fourteenth card, and you're like, can you go back
to can we can? I know that she's fourteen holes ahead,
so she's in first, but can we I just need

(33:22):
to see can cut anyway? Can we just can we
go back? Well, the actual competition very exciting. Silvi Sarnen
wins her first major. Silvi Sarnen playing disco golf for
quite a long time, but not around our neck of
the woods. Only back in twenty twenty three she came

(33:42):
over to the States, started competing a lot more on
the Pro Tour, and then full time in twenty twenty
four and twenty twenty five. We saw her obviously this year,
so we haven't been talking about her for very long.
The storylines behind her are like, is she capable of
closing a tournament? Is she too young? Does she have
the skills necessary to defeat Kristin? We've seen her get broken,

(34:08):
you know, multiple times this year, come down to the
end of things and just lose it, Like, you know,
I think nerves, I think just a couple of other
different things. Growth and maturity, confidence in her game. All
of that just sort of came to fruition recently. And
it's coming at a time when Kristin just seems to
be going up against some really, really tough things that

(34:31):
are taking her out of contention, and it's giving me
page Pierce, Kristin tu tar vibes, wow, because like Kristin
kind of came up and got her game feeling really
good and was like, you know, she obviously went through things.
She had injuries back then too and hiccups and she
wasn't on tour all the time, but neither is Silva,

(34:54):
And are they going to be the two that just
go neck and neck soon like once Kristen's heal because
she has this broken toe situation.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
Yeah, I mean it's like I think it's the pinky
toe right, like it's it's her like a little baby toe.

Speaker 2 (35:09):
Either way, anyways, breaking a toe, there's nothing that you
can do. You just have to wait.

Speaker 3 (35:14):
I want to I wish I could talk to her
because she started putting staggered putt on that final round
or I don't know if she was putting like that
the whole tournament, and I was curious if it was
like her regular straddle putt was bugging her toe because
she never puts or staggered and she was missing leaking
out left on all of her putts, which you know
could be confidence, like you said, but it's like I

(35:37):
want to know, like the mechanical behind it Was it
because her foot hurt, was it because she wasn't confident,
But personally, I think she heard a one that no doubt.
I think Silva was in the right place at the
right time. I will say about Silva, I think she's
a different breed of disc golfers when it comes to FPO.
I think she has confidence at the wazoo, almost like

(36:01):
cocky confidence. Like at Crocle, she like was putting in
the wind and the interviewer was like from MG M
GM media where it's like.

Speaker 2 (36:09):
Hey, like MGDDMG or something like that.

Speaker 3 (36:13):
Yeah, sorry, sorry guys, but they they asked her like, oh, like,
how did you feel on those scary greens? And she
kind of like scoffed at him and was like those
weren't scary, like whatever. And I was just like okay,
Like she she's just confident, and I just don't we

(36:33):
don't see a lot of women kind of have that
sort of like cocky attitude. And I feel like if
she can keep this cocky attitude and like be like
I'm the best in the world and there's no stopping me,
I could see her taking.

Speaker 2 (36:47):
Worlds, kind of comparing it to Evelena, like the way
that I feel about her. Evelina is so goofy and
just loves to have a good time, so her demeanor
is often very sunshiny, and when she misses a potter
does something stupid, you can tell that it bothers her,
but she's often just the first one to be like

(37:08):
laughing it off, or like oh that was dumb with
her caddie, or just kind of connecting with the people
around her like friends. But it's always this I don't
take myself too seriously vibe when things aren't going my way,
and Silva gives me the same feeling, but it's not
a sunshiny feeling. It's more of like a chill like

(37:31):
the chillest chilled teenager vibe. Like it's just like it's
just like whatever, like you know, like just very it's
not a Haley King stoicism, but it's kind of similar
where they're kind of like I'm messed up and like
that's between me and my golf game. That doesn't sound

(37:53):
like you're business. You're just like oh.

Speaker 3 (37:57):
No, Like sometimes I wonder like is she enjoying herself?
You know what I mean? Like you look like are
you having fun? Like I know, like yeah, Okay, you're not.
They're competing for when you know whatever, We're not so
focused on fun. But it's just like, sometimes I look
at Haley, sometimes I look at Silava and I'm like,

(38:19):
do you like do you like it?

Speaker 2 (38:21):
You know what I think it is? We never see
that moment of the emotional release. We rarely see it totally.
For Silva, we saw it when she lost to Kristen
and she started crying a couple of times, and you're
kind of like, oh, that's her passion coming forward. Yes,
But you could say the same thing about Calvin and

(38:42):
Calvin winning this past weekend. When he made that putt,
he just released like you, he made the fist bump.
He showed so much emotion. And Calvin is not for
like being an emotional, wearing your heart on your sleeve
kind of person. He's more chill. And I think disc
golf does like attract that. And that's kind of what

(39:04):
we're saying, I think, just to like put words to
like our feelings. I think we're just looking like she
won her major, like she's come back from so much
this year in such a short period of time, and
we were looking for that like moment of like, ah,
but I think it's probably hard because she wasn't that's

(39:27):
not her home crowd, and I think this is very
pretty obvious. Yeah yeah, kind of like when you win
the World Series away, like you're like yay, but you're
also like ooh, all these people are really upset that.

Speaker 3 (39:39):
I just won.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
Yeah. So I think I I'm going to be keeping
my eyes on her for European Open because last year,
I remember that was really tough. And I remember standing there,
like with her mom after the third to final round
just being like, oh my gosh, like she could like
take this down, like this is amazing, and her mom
was like, we're really hoping like that would be amazing.

(40:01):
And that's the pressure that Kristin was feeling, you know,
with her family and friends being there, and she wants
to show people this is what I do and this
is how I do it, and to just keep collapsing
like that in front of the crowds like that, Yes,
it just hurts on a different level. I think it's
you know, my first thought after the tournament was over

(40:23):
was like, had this happened in Michigan or like California.
I think Kristin wins. I think she's just kind of
able to shake the stuff off. And there's big pressure
points that don't exist. But because it was Estonia and
because it was a major, because it was Silva, it
was too much. So you said, did you say you

(40:52):
talked to Kristin?

Speaker 3 (40:53):
Yeah, well, so I posted. So I played second round
on lead card and I had probably three straight monkey
pause like Yanks, and people online were just you know,
I've been really good about not reading comments, but they
were commenting on my posts saying stuff, and so I
made a public post just being like, hey, guys, I'm

(41:15):
not asking for advice. I'm figuring it out, like if
you want to say something mean, you're gonna get blocked.
And Kristin just like replied to me, just like some
clappy hands, you know, to my story. And I think
that was like the next day or something, or even
after the tournament, and I just messaged it back and
I was like, hey, like, I don't know what you're
going through. No one knows what you're going through. And obviously,

(41:38):
like I'm very open, I can speak to everyone about everything,
and I think like Kristen, obviously you know, she speaks
about like things she's going through. But it's like she's
not writing out every single thing. And I just, like,
you know, was like, hey, girl, like I just want
to let you know, like the people who care about you,
you have true followers. They don't care how you played today.

(41:59):
You know, like you're you're always going to be a
champion in my eyes. And she was just like, you know,
thank you so much. I really appreciate it. And I
just think like for her to even reply to that story,
I think she was just feeling all of the all
of the vibes online. You know. I even I went
and looked and people are like, oh my gosh, she's washed.

(42:20):
And I'm just sitting here and I'm like, this woman
was leading the tournament and she still took second place
with a broken toe in her homeground.

Speaker 2 (42:28):
You and I know how that feels. I'm like, that's
going to be such a crazy feeling. And then I'm like,
oh wait, I know.

Speaker 3 (42:33):
How that feels.

Speaker 2 (42:35):
This sucks. It sucks when people are speculating about your character,
about your decisions, about about your you and as a person,
exist just speculating on your just like everything. And it
sucks when you have a platform and social media to

(42:59):
state your case and it's crazy when that's not enough.
And that's the turning point for most of the people
intosc golf. I would say, when you are online and
you start to see that your following has grown so
big that your word is no longer taken as your word,
it's still just torn apart and speculated on. And why

(43:22):
did she say this? And why did she say this now?
And oh of course she would say that, and oh,
if I was her, I would simply do this. And
it's got to be tough for I think Silva too.
And you know, there was something that happened. Caenan's Burge
won her first event a couple weeks ago, and she
did an interview with smash Box and she told them

(43:43):
she went on and listened to every single thing that
every podcast had to say about her, and then she
read like every single comment. I think a lot more
people do that then they would care to admit. So
for us to hear that, we're like shocked, like we're like,
oh my gosh, she shouldn't do that. I think everybod
but he does that. I think when you win, you
go seek out the affirmations, and I think the temptation

(44:08):
to seek out the affirmations. That feels really good, and
it feels good to belong to a community. You can't
get your community from disc golf fans. You've got to
have your people around you. And I think that in
a second, I think that's what Kristen was trying to
communicate in her post after this. I think she was
trying to say like, even though I felt like I
was dying on the inside, I was surrounded by so

(44:30):
much love totally, her friends and family being like, well,
you'll get him next time, Like oh well, anyway, what
do you guys want for dinner? Like you know this,
this is just such a small blip in your career,
Like I don't know. So I think that's why on
our podcast, I'm always so careful to be like we

(44:50):
are wrong all the time, Like.

Speaker 3 (44:52):
Yes, totally, we're literally speculating too.

Speaker 2 (44:55):
We could be like, oh wow, Silver didn't show a
lot of emotion, and I could be like, yeah, I know,
how weird, and and Silva is like I had the
stomach flu and my period and I was dying, and
we're like oh wow, she totally And she didn't say that,
but we could have been like wow, Rebecca Cox, like
she shot really hot round and then that was it,
Like she must just need to work on her forehand.

(45:15):
And then she comes out and she's like, my forehand
was the best part of my game. And we're like, oh,
we're wrong all the time. I think the scary part
is when people with a platform don't acknowledge it they're
wrong all the time, and they think that they're what
they're saying is gospel. And then the other scary part
is when pros are in that position where they need

(45:36):
the validation and I'm like, no, guys, can you.

Speaker 3 (45:39):
Get it from yourself?

Speaker 2 (45:40):
Girl, you get it from yourself. I had a conversation
just to be transparent with Paul this week because he's
constantly saying that he wants to win for Pablo, and
I finally just texted him and was like, you losing
and continuing continuing to show up builds more of an
example for our son. Then you winning and continuing to

(46:04):
show up. And I was like, you being so far
back after round two with no confidence in your pot
and you put you just you finish your around twenty
men shot better than you and you still just were like, well,
I'm going to the practice green that sets more of
an example to him than you hosting trophies every single weekend.

(46:28):
Stop making that your goal. I'm like, just relax. But
the narrative is really hard to fight if you don't
have people in your corner being like just relax, Like
they are making money off of this entertainment. People are
speculating for fun. This you are, you are in sports

(46:50):
in it's entertainment. I'm like literally literally, so yeah, it's
it's it happens all over the place. But I think
with with situations like this, that's why we don't see
everything from her, and you are in a position where
you feel you can share everything because that's just like

(47:13):
you just enjoy it. Like you have the people who
dm you back and they're like, oh that's awesome. Hey
I went dis golfing this past weekend too, and you're
like yeah, and it's like I just I just I
don't like stop it a little scary of freaking me out,
but yeah it was. I think Silva is an incredible

(47:35):
golfer when it counts. Just to bring it back to her,
She's so shown so much growth just in her game
and her being able to maintain composure, maintain her nerves,
experience them, struggle with them, but not let it affect
her and not keeping it from interrupting her. And I
think the people she surrounds herself with are very grounding.

(47:59):
I think sister on the bag, having Joey, Tomlly and
Maria around, and I think all of this is just
coming to fruition at a time where Kristin is just
getting in her own way, whether it's her fault or not.

Speaker 3 (48:12):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (48:12):
And so it's cooking up something real interesting because we
still have the Americans who are they can pop off
like they can really put it together and take it down.
Anyone could win Worlds next week, and I would be like, yeah,
I'm not shocked. Anyone could shoot their way out of it.
And I would be like, yeah, that doesn't surprise me.

(48:33):
It's a tight race. And it's not just the Kristin
and Silva show right now, No, I think it's anyone
was there's so many people. Let miss A Gannon get
a good night's sleep, Let Valerie Mandhano get a good
night's sleep, and you wait.

Speaker 3 (48:50):
Let them eat a nice meal like sleep. Well, oh
my gosh, it's been great. I've cashed at all the
events in Europe. So I mean that's been like money
for me, especially leading up to Worlds. Just got a
bang map puts girl and then I mean the puck's

(49:12):
feeling really good out here. But yeah, I think my
top three is Evelina Silva or Missy Gannon. They are
my three picks for possible winners personally.

Speaker 2 (49:26):
So I'm so torn. I think Kristen's gonna play. I
don't want her to. I you're injured.

Speaker 3 (49:34):
I well, if you're injured in two courses out courses.

Speaker 2 (49:40):
I'm gonna say this. I have a degree in exercise physiology.
You cannot supplement a movement for a long period of
time without creating a habit. I don't want her to
create bad habits, Like how often are you like, oh, yeah,
my arm's kind of sore, and then you're like, oh
my back is or my back kind of sore, and

(50:00):
like oh man, like my glutes and then you're like,
oh my arm's sore, Oh my my hand kind of hurts.
You cannot supplement a movement because your body's trying to
avoid pain for a long period of time without changing
your form.

Speaker 3 (50:17):
I think after Worlds, I don't think we're gonna see
her for six weeks. I think after World she's not
going to She's not gonna come back to to the Saints.

Speaker 2 (50:26):
I don't think.

Speaker 3 (50:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (50:26):
I mean you have Ledgstone, idlewild' d Glow. I think
she can skip those and just do GMC down the
East Coast. Yep, I agree, that's wild child. Yeah. So
I can't pick her because that five days is a lot.
That's a lot of golf on your body on top
of practice days. I know, h man, I don't know.

(50:49):
I would pick to win. I don't know. I'm so
bad at this. I'm not a confident picker. So I'm
just gonna just say nothing. I don't know, but that
tournament is coming up. It starts Wednesday. It'll be Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday,
and then championship Sunday, and we're gonna have two winners

(51:11):
and I don't know who they're going to be. But
someday's I'll win. I don't know. Me exciting but anyways,
Cony all right, Well, thank you guys so much for listening.

With us, do you, Haverson Joseph.

of things. But anyways, so good talking to you and
we'll catch you next week.
