Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the Party Podcast, a celebration of professional women's disco.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
With plenty of hot takes, fun stories, and fan questions.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
I'm Hannah macbeth, I'm Christine Jennings.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
I'm ConA Montgomery, and we are at the Party Podcast.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Hello. So this week, Hannah is taking a week off,
and so it's me and ConA.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Hi. Conna, Hi, Hi, everybody, Thanks for partying with us.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
How's your drive? You're heading over to Preserve?
Speaker 2 (00:33):
I am heading to North Carolina, North Carolina, North Dakota.
Colton is playing his like forty third state. He's trying
to click a tournament in every state and so North
Dakota is one that he needs to check off.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
Wow. Wow, well that's exciting. So that's like the week
off before Preserve. Are you playing week off before?
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (00:54):
I am not playing. I need a week off. Last
week was a lot just for practice rounds and then
tournament days. My body, my body is really hurting.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Yeah, especially then you guys are like sitting in your
cars for two or three days straight. That's crazy.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Yeah, both of mine and Colton's back.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
So we have a lot to oh no, well, we
have a lot to go over about Portland or the
North what dis golf championships? But before we get into that,
I had a fun little topic that I wanted to
bring up with you because I know that you're a
social media queen, so I wanted your take, And I
kind of want Hannah to make a post about this also,
so I'll talk to her about it afterwards and maybe
(01:32):
we can touch base on it next week with everyone.
But I wanted to know what your favorite social media
platform is nowadays, because I feel like Instagram is trash?
Speaker 2 (01:43):
How dare you? How dare you say that? My? What
are you on TikTok?
Speaker 1 (01:46):
I love TikTok? But I wanted to see, like what
your opinion was because I know that you're invested in Instagram.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
I'm still on Instagram. I'm still fully committed to Instagram.
If anything, it's like maybe a little bit more YouTube
going on, But I just I haven't committed to any
other platforms, not even threads.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Yeah, threads is also wild. So just in general my account,
I haven't posted consistently at all in years, so, like
my engagement sucks anyways, But just like looking at you know,
you follow influencers and you follow people, celebrities, and people
and just in general, like people's engagement is down across
the board, like no matter who you are, and so
(02:28):
I just feel like that's so interesting and it makes
me wonder, like where are other people consuming their content?
So is there a heavy draw to TikTok? Are people
going more to like YouTube shorts? Bart loves YouTube shorts
And I'm like, I think it's so strange, but I
love you or I love TikTok. So I'm just like
very interested. I want to like take a poll with
people to see where they're going.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Yeah, I don't know. I think I'm stick into Instagram, Yeah,
YouTube for like money monetary values. Maybe everyone's taken a
little bit of time off their phones.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
I mean, have you, But I will a drop an
engagement on your side, like on your stuff.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
A little bit. But I've also linked up with another
round this year, and they get it when it comes
to social media. So they've been posting some of my
like really cool shots, Like I've had two I had
two throw ins this past weekend and they posted both
of those and like they both got a thousand likes,
(03:26):
And that's like it's been a hot minute since I've
touched a thousand likes.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
So that's so crazy to think about too, because I remember,
like you've always had I don't know, more than double
the followers that I had, and I've hit a thousand
likes quite a few times, and at the time that
I would post a few years ago, and like that
seemed so normal and so now for you to have
the following that you have and being like, oh cool,
like I hit a thousand likes, it's just like I'm
(03:52):
just thrown off by social media engagement these days, Like
what is the perfect formula?
Speaker 2 (03:58):
I guess, I know, I don't know, but anyways, I.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Love TikTok I. They're editing software. Like I used to
use a different software for editing when I would make
Instagram reels, but now TikTok's in app editor is so
good that like I don't even pay for another app anymore,
Like I don't use anything else. And then when you
take that and then you go back to Instagram, Instagram
(04:24):
just seems so clunky because it's like the editing is
glitchy or like it's not as smooth and it's not
as useful. I don't know, I'm maybe biased. I think
you're biased, Okay, well, I'm going to put a poll
out there, so I'm curious to see what everyone else
says about where they're going and what their favorite posting
app is. Okay, anyways, So this weekend the tour was
(04:51):
at the Northwest Disc Golf Championship, presented by Latitude sixty four.
It was a DGPT plus event that means it's a
four day event. There was a cut after the third
day this event. Hannah and I touched on it a
little bit last week. It's a combination of the Portland
Open and Beaver State Fling. So the Portland Open is
(05:12):
at Glendevier Golf Course in Portland, and then last year
or previous years, there was a second event, which was
a Beaver State Fling held at Mila mcg iver. It's
about forty five to fifteen minutes south east of Glendevie.
So we just combined those two courses, or not courses,
but brought those two courses into one event. And so
(05:33):
you played two rounds at Milo and then you went
over and played two rounds at Glendevie. So how was
your event overall? Like? What is your Do you have
some takeaways?
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Yeah? So myself, I actually really enjoyed this event. Two
of my favorite courses in the sense that they played
to my game really well. Ball golf course at Glendevere
and then Mila mcguiver is just like my favorite place ever.
I think Colton and I talk about naming our kid
if we have a son one day in the future,
naming him Milo. It's just like a special place in
(06:05):
our heart, that course. But I got to play with
Zoe Andyke and Lisa Facas, both og players, and it's funny.
I'm only twenty six years old and I was talking
to them and it's just like we have thirty, like
more than thirty years of professional disc golf between the
three of us, so it's kind of insane to think about.
(06:26):
And then Zoe had a caddy. His name is Dustin. Sorry, Dustin,
I can't remember your last name. But he created the
Genius hole, which if you've ever played Malama kaiv it
is one of the just most well known and coolest
holes to throw off of. And it was Holy eighteen
this year. So I got a selfie with him on
(06:47):
that hole because I was like, this is just too cool.
And then just Malama Kaiv Man, I just think it's
such a sweet place. I think you can put like
seven different layouts on the property. Just the State Park
has so much space. I've played so many different holes
out there, like as an am going into pro. So
this layout was combining both the East and West courses
(07:11):
at Milo. But I just want to say that it
was such an advantage having a caddie for this tournament,
just the amount of walking you had to do two courses.
Glendevere's huge, so I just had to bring that up.
Milo's super scorable. It wasn't surprising to see Missy Holland
(07:32):
and Page catch fire. Valleimando Hano was in fourth place,
just a few strokes off the lead. She won Beaver
State Fleeing in twenty twenty two, so I'm not surprised
to see her doing well. I wasn't surprised to see
her doing well at Mala mckaiver. I played with Lisa
Fakas the first round and she was talking about how
this year she was experiencing a lot of yips, which
(07:55):
is really weird to hear coming from her, considering she's
one of the best putters I've ever known. She has
this throw putt she can throw in from eighty feet,
one hundred feet all the way to thirty feet, so
it was really interesting to hear that. She said that
she was switching putters in just like every single weekend
was trying a different putter or at least a different plastic.
(08:17):
So it was really interesting to hear that. And then
she ended up shooting a really great first round. I
think she was either lead card or second card the
second round. Then Hull four played as the hardest hole,
which if no one really knows what the whole like
looks like off the tee, I just don't know if
there needs to be redesigned for the women or if
(08:38):
this is one of those holes that is supposed to
be really hard. But I just don't think it's a
great T shot for the women. I just think it's
a really hard T shot and then most women are
either skipping ob and then the second shot is hard
to get in position. So I just felt like I
needed to share that interesting interesting.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
I had a question, do you think when I watch
Milo I've never been to that course. When I watched
Milo on DGN, it sort of gives me like MVP
vibes Maple Hill. Do you have do those compare it all?
Speaker 2 (09:13):
No, No, My Milow is more open. I would say
the fairways are a little bit more fair, and I
don't think Milo has this much elevation change that Maple
Hill does.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
Okay, interesting, that's good to know. I was thought it
was crazy to see Jennifer Allen come back, and she
shot a solid nine ninety four rated round in round two.
She called it a turkey on the back nine and
pulled her up into sixth place. I you talked about
(09:48):
page the first round. Seeing Jennifer Allen's name up here,
I'm like kind of getting like throwback vibes from when
I used to play or even before that, you know,
kind of like the OGFPO players if you will. Well,
Jen won the Beaver State Fling in twenty twenty three,
and so I think maybe she was feeling the vibes
and she was playing while out there at Milo. She
(10:11):
had that ace on hold one. Was it that year
in twenty twenty three? It was all over social media. Yeah,
it was like on my field every day for a month.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
I feel like it was that of that same year
because it was just like that was her event to win,
Like she ace off the tea. She was playing really well.
I think that was the one that she took down.
Speaker 4 (10:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
Yeah, But it's so interesting to think about Jennifer Allen
playing well at of course like my Milo, because when
I think of Jennifer Allen, I'm thinking like bombs, Like
she held the world distance record for women for the
longest time. She probably still holds it. I haven't even
really looked at that, but like, she throws bombs, and
so I feel like she would usually just do better
(11:03):
at like a golf course or a wide open course.
But for her to shoot solid at Milo, I think
is super neat well.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
I think Milo has a lot more distance than you'd think.
I think it's Mala mckaivor is a scorable course if
you have distance, like if you have good distance off
the tea, you can get more birdies. In my opinion.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
Interesting, it's such a fun so I think.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
It makes sense. It's a great course to watch. But
talking about aces, Katrina Allen had a really awesome ace
on whole fifteen. It's a completely blind shot and she
said it was her first tournament ace, which I have
yet to have one, So I'm super jealous. Christine, have
you had a tournament ace? I have not, so jealous.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
It's so crazy to hear like someone like you that's
been playing for years also not have a tournament ace,
but like you've been playing the pro tour for a
handful of years, and so I feel like pro too,
holes are just not really aceable. There's maybe a couple
per round to wear. I don't know. Somebody like a
regional pro that are playing other smaller courses might have more.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
I'm just I'm not trying to throw it in. I'm
trying to park it.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
You know, yes forgets. So once you kind of shift
that part of your game, I feel like it's so
much harder to ace, because yes, you get so good
at like laying up.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
I'm just trying to get really close. But I didn't ace.
But I had two outside the circle throw ins to
this past weekend, both four hands with my toro. Shout
out to Sean Peters. He gave me a sweet Eyed
disc at Cascade Challenge and I've been just throwing it
in so it's my new favorite. But Holland and Missy,
(12:42):
we're still battling at the top. Missy is currently nine
eighty five rated, one point from her all time career
high of nine eighty six. We've consistently seen her shooting
higher than her rating in the recent months, so I'm
curious if we'll see a nextre high on this next
rating update. What do you think, Christine, I could see it.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
I've been like keeping an eye on the FPO field
in general, and it's been so cool to watch all
of these women just like continuously increase in points every
update or every few updates. Like when I played, I
feel like nine forty was like a solid average, Like
if you were in the nine thirty forties, you're like
feeling good and really good. Now it's like nine thirty
(13:27):
nine forties like.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
Mid like you're right, but yeah, in the middle of
the pack, that's me. That's me. I'm nine thirty eight. Baby,
I'm chill and I'm chill crazy.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Yeah, So I think it's super impressive and super cool
to see all these women just elevating the cave.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
But yeah, I definitely think next ratings update we'll probably
see Missy jump up past her career high going into
round three. Page continues to show that she's putting in
the work and that having her family with her is
making throwing the discs even am easier. So she was
on lead card all three rounds. Oh yeah, huh.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
So I want your take on this. Is it like
the West Coast vibes that Page rides on, or is
it her family being with her or maybe all of
the above, because I feel like every time we talk
about OTB, which was Champion's Cup this year, she's always
killing it and she did pretty well this year at
that event. And now here we are at Northwest Disc
(14:30):
Golf Championships, still on the West Coast, Like, what's different
for her? Why is she popping off?
Speaker 2 (14:37):
I think it's that I think she has her family
with her. She's not having to think about you know,
Ala back home and all of her dogs. She's everyone
with her. I think she's practicing a lot more. I
don't know. I don't know what it is. She has
like a new found motivation and love, but really excited
her Page. She was on lead card for three rounds.
(14:58):
Both Holland and Paige put on a show at Glenda
of Your Ears East, shooting ten down. Holland's ten twenty
four rated round put her in the lead heading into
the final day. Final rounds are usually her kryptonite, so
you know, open at Austin, she had a hefty lead
and only one by one stroke, so she really needed
(15:18):
to be on her a game with a three stroke
lead heading into the final day. So we did have
some really weird weather. It was like cold and humid,
and then it rained on us when it wasn't supposed
to rain, so it was just really odd. But moving
into the final day, I got to play with one
of my best friends, or Beca Cox. We haven't played
together in so long, so we just had such a
(15:39):
great time. We played with our good friend Danny Clyden
and Shelley Mayley, so it was just super casual. Yeah,
I don't know nothing other to say than it just
felt like a casual round and we were all just
playing pretty easy. But conditions, yes, conditions were great. Other
than being pretty chilly, I'll go into what I experience,
(16:00):
but it was not fun. But yeah, other than that.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
Well, Holland didn't let off the gas this championship Sunday,
So she won the Northwest dis Golf Championships by seven strokes.
So much and after every event it seems that she's
just like closer and closer to hitting that thousand rateed
and I don't think that it's going to be long
while we're it's nine ninety one women and their ratings changing.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
I know she's close.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
Her birdy percentage for this entire event was fifty four percent,
more than half the holes. Wow, isn't crazy her? Well,
I guess with birdie's come circle one regulation because circle
one regulation was fifty eight percent, Circle two in regulation
was seventy six percent. She was giving herself seventy six
(16:48):
percent of opportunity to get a birdie. That's the entire event. Yeah,
that's insane. And her circle one putting was eighty eight percent,
circle two to twenty five percent, and Missy Gannon was
right there behind her her. The thing that stood out
to me with Missy Gannon was her scramble percentage was
eighty percent, which scrambling is super important, especially in the woods.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Especially my low.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
Yeah for sure. So those are some fun stats. And
you had a note about the cash line.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Yeah. So we were playing and all of a sudden
we finished our around and Rebecca looks at live scoring
and it says she was below cash and we were
all like, I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
We made the cut.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
We should get paid, And ended up being that there
were a bunch of ties at the bottom to make
the cut on the final day, and PDGA just doesn't
have it programmed to show that everyone gets paid. So
Rebecca Cox did get paid, okay, and Jessica Weese did
get paid, but we were all like, what the heck
(17:53):
is this?
Speaker 1 (17:54):
So I feel like that's there has been events though
where this has happened and the people don't get paid
because it seems like it happened to.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Ye this year, poor husband, not this year.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
So in the past. I just I guess I want
to know, like what the standard is or you.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
Know, I don't know the standard.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
You make. It should be the cut.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
It should always be a standard.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
I agree, because there's just I don't know. It's all
based on ties, right. If there's more ties than I
guess the system expects, then basically you just kind of
have to like divvy up that money and people at
the bottom are getting less than was projected. I guess. Yeah,
But yeah, I agree if you make the cut, if
you make the cut, you should get something. We had
(18:42):
a special shout out l Jaylor Taylor chose sick took
her first top ten finish. Tell me why, I literally
texted Hannah the first day when Taylor was playing Milow
and I said, I want to get Taylor on it
interview because I want to know what the heck happened
(19:03):
in her game for her to just suddenly be popping
off and being on coverage. Yeah, because typically when a
coverage or when the cameras are following you on coverage,
you're doing pretty well. And at the time, she was
like in the top five. And I told Hannah, I'm
gonna keep my eye on her all weekend to see
where she ends up, because she's been finishing like bottom
(19:26):
half of the field throughout the Discoff Proto events that
she's been playing this year. And so she took seventh place,
which is her best DGPT finish. She's only played forty
two events in her career with PDJ career, and it's
showing that her athletic abilities are making it easier to
get better at the professional side of disc golf. She's
a multi, multi event athlete. She does all kinds of stuff.
(19:49):
She went to a University of Oregon for track, and
so she just like knows how to be an athlete.
I feel like, you know, be able to take feedback
from a coach and implement it and know what her
body is doing in terms of movements and form critique.
One other thing I wanted to touch on was just
the amount of work that the staff had to do
(20:12):
to put this event on. So with a four day event,
especially at two different courses, the crew does not double.
The cruise day is the same and so that means
the crew is basically divving up, you know, their workload
between the two courses. And there was also some hiccups
(20:33):
on Memorial Day. There was some sort of confusion with
parks at Milo. Did you have feedback on that or like,
what was it like from your perspective.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
Just that the tournament started in three days and the
course wasn't set up. Is that what you're talking about?
Speaker 1 (20:49):
Oh? Yes, okay, So Memorial Day was on a Monday,
and there was some sort of I don't know, miscommunication
between the DGPT where the course wasn't ready and the
course standard is typically if the event was a four
day event, then the course has to be ready four
days before the event, which it wasn't and so that
was something that the DGPT was navigating. And then in
(21:11):
general this was a test event basically for the twenty
twenty seven Portland World Championships. I feel like, what a
great way to get everyone's hands dirty and you know,
try to figure out what it's all about. I think
the Pro Tour staff had a lot of good feedback
and just like, how can we make the event better
(21:32):
next year? And so even before Worlds in twenty twenty seven,
we have an event twenty twenty six, so just kind of,
you know, taking all the feedback and seeing how we
can always improve. Super big shout out to the staff
(21:54):
who worked both courses, you know, driving back and forth
to those courses because they're not very of each other.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
Shout out to this staff. But I wanted to chat
a little bit this past weekend. And I've experienced it
throughout my life and honestly thought it was just something
that everyone went through. But there's this thing called rainods
or rainods, and it's where you get really cold and
all of your blood goes like to your torso and
then you like lose feeling and get really like white
(22:24):
splotchy in your hands. All of a sudden, when you
get warm again, all the blood rushes back to your
hands or other you know, parts of your body and
they get really puffy, really hot, and swollen, and this
past weekend I experienced it more than usual. I experience
it sometimes when like we're in really cold weather, and
I just think it was maybe a shock to be
like in really warm weather this week and then have
(22:45):
like some colder days. But all of a sudden, like
during my rounds. And this can be stress induced as well,
so your girls always stress. But during my round, all
of a sudden, like it got really cold, and I'm like,
oh crap, like my hands are getting cold, and then
they just got super hot and it got really hard
to hold my discs. And at one point I looked
at my Caddy and I was like, Sean, I can't
(23:07):
like feel my fingertips like I like, I cannot feel
my taught, like my two fingers like to throw this
forehand right now. So it's like I was trying to
like warm it up throughout my round. And but I
actually talked to my mom and figured out what it is.
I'm glad I know what it is now, but now
I need to learn how to keep warm twenty four
(23:27):
to seven otherwise that'll continue happening.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
How long has this been happening before you like notice it?
At Portland?
Speaker 2 (23:36):
I just it's always like it's just been a normal thing.
But it's just it doesn't happen all the time, like
it's only when it's super cold, and so it was
just like this just happened to be the weekend that
happened to every single round. And then I was just
asking everyone around me like, oh, you get this too, right,
and everyone's like, I have no idea what you're talking about.
Oh okay, oh cool, great.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
So have you looked into it at all yet or
like in terms of how do how does it happen?
Why does it happen?
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Like I know you explained, Yeah, it's like part of
autoimmune Yeah, it's like part of being an autoimmune person.
David Goggins, who's like an intense, really awesome person. He
has thyroid issues and he has rain nods as well,
so I'm gonna be looking into how he trains. He
trains pretty hard. He actually trained how to put a
(24:23):
parachute on or put it together while his hands were
numb to become like a firefighter person.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
So I had no idea that he had issues. If
you guys don't know who David Goggins is, he's the
guy that's always yelling at you on social media to
be about.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
Stay hard being stay hard. Yeah, he takes Syraid medication.
He ray, you should listen to his audiobook. He ran
a race and forgot to take his meds in it
THROUGHOUF his whole entire race and stuff, so he should
look into it. It's interesting.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
Oh, I will put that on my I have so
many I have the good Reads app. Do you have that?
Speaker 2 (24:59):
I know you, Yes, yes, I have.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
Like so many want to read on my Like every
time somebody tells me, like a cool story about a book,
I'm like, okay, let's just like put it on put
it on my lists. Anyways. Like ConA mentioned, this next
weekend is an off weekend for us. The Preserve is
going to be happening in a couple of weeks at Clearwater, Minnesota.
So tune in next week. And I don't know what
(25:26):
we're going to talk about. We're gonna talk about social
media because I want Hannah's take on what her favorite
app is because I know she'd be tiktoking too.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
Yes she is tiktoking, yes.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
But we'll see you guys, and thanks for partying with us,
Bye bye.
