(00:53):

lot of times, individuals have tobalance all of this while still trying to
have on one end, a thrivingwork life and then a thriving personal life.

(01:17):
But how do you balance all ofthat? What are some of the
tips that can help individuals balance andjuggle all these things. Yes, it
is your Bora Momarquis and we arehere for another episode of the QB Zone.
Thank you guys so much for tuningin. You know, I think
this is the subject that anyone canrelate to, that everyone has had to

(01:42):
think about at some point in timein their life, specifically adults, because
we have so many things we're balancing. You know, Like I said,
you can have your career, whichcould be you know, in any particular
field, whether it's education, themilitary, entertainment, some aspects of law,
of the justice system, and onthe flip side, you may struggle

(02:07):
and trying to have a personal lifeand trying to date and have a significant
other. And if you already do, how are you balancing giving your job
the time you need it needs, but also giving your relationship the TLC that
it needs to tend to loving care. And so I think, listen,

(02:30):
I think there's probably a lot ofpeople who can give at least one tip
of what has helped them try tobalance as best they can. And so
that's just something that I wanted tolightly touch on the day. You know,
because in today's fast paced world, achieving a healthy work life balance has
become a crucial challenge for many individuals, affecting their mental health, communication,

(02:55):
and just overall well being. Withthe line between work and personal life increasingly
blurred, finding harmony between professional responsibilitiesand personal commitments is a delicate act that
requires time management, flexibility, andself care. In this episode, I

(03:19):
just want to briefly explore the conceptsof work life balance, identifying the signs
of imbalance, and providing us withsome practical steps to kind of regain our
flow, regain our balance. Ithighlights I want to highlight the benefits of

(03:42):
achieving a sustainable work routine, suchas improved productivity, stronger support, systems
and quality time for personal pursuits. If we can implement effective strategies, can
unlock a healthier, more fulfilling lifestylethat nurtures both their professional and personal growth.

(04:10):
Recognizing the signs of an unhealthy worklife balance is crucial for taking corrective
action. These signs can manifest inboth physical and emotional ways, so some
of the physical ways. The firstphysical sign persisting fatigue and exhaustion. If

(04:32):
you constantly feel drained and tired, even after getting adequate sleep, it could
be a sign that you're overworking.Having too much on your plate can leave
you mentally and physically exhausted. Thesecond physical sign sleep disturbances. An unhealthy

(04:54):
work life balance can result in poorsleep quality, making it difficult to fall
or stay asleep. You may findyourself thinking about work and pending tasks instead
of resting. The third physical signfrequent body aches and pains. Suffering from

(05:16):
chronic headaches, neck, or shoulderpain can be your body's way of ceiling
that it's under constant strain. It'sa reminder to prioritize self care and relaxation.
The last or fourth physical sign iscluttered workspace, filling, overwhelmed,

(05:39):
with work can spill over into yourphysical environment, leading to a disorganized and
cluttered workspace. This can further contributeto decreased productivity and increase stress levels.
Then we have some more emotional signs. We have four emotional signs. So

(06:00):
the first emotional sign is irritability andshort temper. If you find yourself frequently
losing patients with coworkers, friends,or family, even over minor issues,
it could be a sign of stressfrom overworking. This irritability might indicate that

(06:21):
you need to take a break beforethe pressure becomes too much. Lord,
know this is something I've experienced manytimes. Number two. The second emotional
sign lack of motivation and engagement.Questioning the value of your work, feeling
disconnected from colleagues, and struggling tofocus or find satisfaction in your accomplishments can

(06:46):
all be signs of job burnout. The third emotional sign is neglecting personal relationships.
When you're working excessively, you mayhave less time and energy to invest
in relationships with friends and family. You might even find yourself mentally disengaged from

(07:09):
them due to exhaustion. And thefourth emotional sign is decrease productivity. Contrary
to popular belief, working too muchcan actually have a negative impact on your
productivity. With too many tasks onyour mind, you may struggle to focus

(07:30):
and complete your current project to thebest of your abilities. By recognizing these
physical and emotional science you can takeproactive steps to restore a healthier work life
balance and prioritize your overall well being. And when it comes to improving overall

(07:51):
wellbeing, there's a few steps thatI came across. So the first one
is pause and self reflect Pausing andreflecting is a crucial step in achieving work
life balance. It allows individuals totake a step back, assess their current
situation, and make conscious choices aboutthe priorities. This process involves asking oneself

(08:18):
questions such as what are the goalsI am making progress on? Which ones
do I want to enlarge or followup on? Do I have relationships that
need tending? What are the accomplishmentsI'd like to celebrate. By creating a

(08:39):
relaxed and self nurturing space for reflection, individuals can realign their energies and return
to their day refreshed. The nextstep and improving work life balance is prioritize
your activities. After reflecting on thecurrent situation, individuals can prioritize their activities

(09:05):
to better align with their desired worklife balance. This may involve determining.
This may involve determining which tasks orcommitments to start, stop, continue,
do more of, do less of, or do differently. Setting specific measurable

(09:31):
goals and scheduling them into a plannercan help turn priorities into reality. Establishing
boundaries and communicating them clearly to supervisors, co workers, and family members is
also essential. The last one consideralternatives. Achieving work life balance may require

(09:58):
exploring alternative workers arrangements or schedules. Many companies offer options such as flexible hours
till the commuting, compressed work weeks, job sharing, or part time employment.
Individuals can propose such arrangements if theircompany does not have them, as

(10:20):
they can facilitate a better work lifebalance while maintaining productivity. Additionally, adopting
time management practices, learning to sayno to additional tasks when overwhelmed, and
seeking help when needed can contribute toa healthier work life balance. And there

(10:43):
are definitely some benefits of achieving awork life balance. And so there's three
that I want to specifically touch onbefore I leave you guys for the day.
You know. Achieving a healthy worklife balance offers numerous benefits that contribute
to overall well being and personal fulfillment. So here's the first of the three

(11:05):
benefits. Number one reduced stress levels. One of the primary benefits of maintaining
a balanced lifestyle is reduce stress levels. When individuals are overwhelmed by work demands
and neglect their personal lives, itcan lead to chronic stress, which weakens

(11:26):
the immune system and increases susceptibility tovarious elements from coals to back aches to
heart disease. Chronic stress can evendouble the risk of having a heart attack.
By prioritizing a work life balance, individuals can better manage stress and avoid

(11:48):
these detrimental health consequences. The nextbenefit of achieving a work life balance is
improved relationships. Maintaining a healthy worklife balance is essential for nurturing personal relationships,
as it provides the time and energyto invest in these connections. When

(12:11):
work consumes most of an individual's timeand energy, it can be challenging to
give loved ones the attention they deserve. Prioritizing relationships and making time for loved
ones can strengthen bonds, create lastingmemories, and provide a supportive network that
acts as a buffer against work relatedstresses. Additionally, a healthy work life

(12:39):
balance allows individuals to be fully presentand engaged in their personal lives, deepening
relationships and building trusts and intimacy withloved ones. Furthermore, strong support systems
have been shown to improve immune responsesto illnesses, contributing to better overall health.

(13:03):
Achieving a work life balance can alsocontribute to improve mental and physical health.
Putting too much time and energy intoeither work or relationships can lead to
mental burnout, reducing mental wellness andphysical health. By balancing work and personal

(13:24):
life, individuals can experience joy fromrelationships and connections while still recognizing and receiving
their recognition for their hard work. There's something I love called PTO, and
you know, for most companies andjobs, PTO stands for a paid time

(13:48):
off, but for me simply meansprepare the others. The Harvard Business Review
reports that taking PTO can improve mentalhealth and reduce stress, further emphasizing the
importance of a balanced lifestyle. Andthe third benefit that I want to touch

(14:09):
on in regards to achieving work lifebalance is sustainable practices for a work life
balance. Mindfulness and meditation are forpowerful tools for cultivating a sustainable work life
balance. Mindfulness encourages individuals to bepresent and fully engage in the current moment,

(14:35):
prompting self awareness and emotional intelligence.Mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing and
meditation have been proven to reduce stresslevels, helping employees feel more resilient in
the face of workplace challenges. Oneof the primary benefits of mindfulness is its

(15:00):
capacity to help individual detach from workrelated stress when transitioning to personal time,
a crucial aspect of maintaining a healthywork life balance. To incorporate mindfulness into
daily routines, individuals can begin withshort sessions, such as a five minute

(15:20):
breathing exercise at their desks or doinga break. Leveraging technology can also be
beneficial, as mindfulness apps are forguided meditations and exercises, making it convenient
to integrate mindfulness into busy schedules.Encouraging workplaces to designate spaces for brief moments

(15:45):
of mindfulness, equip recomfortable, seedingand calming visuals can promote relaxation and foster
a culture of mindful communication within teams. Regular physical activity is another sustainable practice
that contributes to work life balance.Exercise acts as a powerful stress buffer,

(16:12):
helping to alleviate the tensions that accumulatein work lives. The physiological response to
physical activity not only reduce stress hormoneslike cortisol, but also promotes the production
of endorphins, resulting in a morepositive outlook on life, which is invaluable

(16:34):
for maintaining work life balance. YouKnow. Research by Forbes underscores this exact
point, revealing that exercise not onlyincreases happiness, but also contributes to the
enhancement of one's work life joy, leading to greater properm activity, higher and

(17:03):
more satisfaction. Incorporating exercise into ahectic lifestyle can be achieved gradually by setting
realistic goals, choosing enjoyable activities, and embedding it into daily routines. Combining

(17:25):
cardiovascular exercise with strength training can helpbuild mental resilience, as physical strength often
translate to emotional strength. Integrating exerciseinto daily routines, such as cycling to
work which I would never do,or taking a walk doing launch breaks can

(17:49):
help bridge the gap between work andpersonal life. Supporting a balanced lifestyle.
Listen, we start off at talkingin today's fast paced world, and in
today's fast paced world, as weknow, as we've heard, achieving a

(18:10):
healthy work life balance really does becomeparamount for any of us to have well
being and professional success. I simplyin this episode wanted to just touch on
briefly some practical strategies for recognizing thesize of imbalance, implementing effective solutions,

(18:33):
and hopefully we can all reap thenumerous benefits of a balanced lifestyle. It's
not gonna change overnight. It's notgonna grow overnight. We're not gonna automatically
have this great dedication to having thischange overnight. It is gonna take one
day at a time, one stepat a time, like literally, you

(18:57):
know, by causing for self reflection, reprioritizing our activities, and considering alternative
work arrangements, we can regain controlover our time and energy allocation. Ultimately,

(19:21):
the pursuit of work life balance isa continuous journey that requires mindfulness,
self care, and a commitment tosustainable practices. When we embrace mindfulness techniques,
regular exercise, and a holistic approachto personal and professional fulfillment. We

(19:41):
can empower individuals and ourselves, firstand foremost ourselves to navigate the complexities of
modern life with greater resilience and joyby prioritizing balance. By prioritizing balance,
individuals can and unlock their full potential, nurture meaningful relationships, and cultivate a

(20:04):
sense of harmony that transcends the boundariesof every work and every aspect of their
personal life. And we just havea few freakly asked questions that I kind
of want to just share with youguys as we close. The first one
is how can you effectively manage yourwell being and work life balance? And

(20:29):
it's just a few simple options andtips to that, a few simple steps.
First of all, plan ahead, understand your brain, time blocking or
time management, set a work cutoff, time, use technology wisely,

(20:51):
break for lunch, take vacations, and practice mindfulness. What are five key
steps to achieving a healthy work lifebalance? And we kind of touched on
this a little bit. First, cause and evaluate number two, prioritize number
three, manage your time, numberfour set boundaries, and number five reflect

(21:21):
and at just the next question, how does maintaining a work life balance impact
well being four ways. Four waysone enhance physical health, two reduced stress,
three increased productivity, and four boostedcreativity. What constitutes an effective work

(21:53):
life balance strategy. An effective worklife balance strategy involves managing the demands of
both your personal and professional life ina way that does not compromise your happiness
or productivity. And I want toread that again for myself and anybody else.

(22:15):
An effective work life balance strategy involvesmanaging the demands of both your personal
and professional life in a way thatdoes not compromise your happiness or creativity.
This balance ensures that you can performwell at work while still having ample time

(22:41):
for personal interest and family, therebymaintaining overall happiness and productivity. You guys
know, I got to leave youwith a quote, and this quote for
today simply says, when it istime for to meet, there's nothing on

(23:02):
earth that can prevent them from meeting, no matter where each may be located.
When two hearts are meant for eachother, no distance is too far,
no time is too long, andno of the love can break them apart.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
