Speaker 2 (00:58):
Listen to the One of the things I wanna talk
about is suffering and silence. A lot of times we
are overcoming struggles and dealing with things that people have
no idea about it. And many of us can function
in that space in regards to you know, we can
be very active socially, we can have professional successes, and

(01:23):
people have no idea how much in silence we suffer.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
How for those of.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Us who live alone, we go home and it's quiet,
and it's and it's idle thoughts. And I am a
firm believer that idle has the devil's playground. And so
one of the reasons behind suffering and silence. Part of
the reason is mental health and one of the main

(01:51):
definitely one of the most popular mental health diagnosis. I
can say, for lack of better words, it's depression. You know,
depression in the United States affects over eighteen million adults,
that's one in ten. Is the leading cause of disability
for ages fifteen to forty four. It is the primary

(02:15):
reason why someone dies of suicide about every twelve minutes,
which is about forty one thousand people for the year,
and in comparison, homicide claims less than sixteen thousand lives
each year, So in our country, we're losing more people

(02:36):
to suicide than homicide. When it comes to depression in
the workplace, it causes four hundred and ninety million disability
days from work each year in the United States. It
accounts for twenty three billion dollars and lost work days
each year. It takes an economic toll in our economy

(03:01):
by one hundred billion dollars each year from US businesses. Specifically,
when it comes to depression, depression is both a brain
disorder and a state of mind. The brain is unique.
Our brain is definitely unique. It is the only organ
whose function we consciously experienced. Because the brain is the

(03:22):
organ of the mind, Illnesses of the brain or mind
affect tens of mens of people in the United States.
Depression is by far the most prevalent, representing ninety nine
percent of all mind brain illness. Schizophrenia and other major
psychotic illnesses represent the remaining one percent. One thing for

(03:48):
sure and I can definitely relate to this is that
depression can be a very lonely place, a very lonely place.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
It's easier to fill.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
A long when you're struggling with mental health issues, especially
when your loved ones don't understand what you're going through.
But there are people who have been through it and
come out on the other side, people who know how
to help themselves get better, and they want to share
their experiences with you. Have you ever found yourself on
a path to success yet felt like you were silently

(04:20):
drowning in struggles As a millennial or a working professional,
navigating the complexities of life's challenges while projecting an image
of certainty and confidence can be a daunting task, a
very daunting task.

Speaker 1 (04:38):

about your struggles is not a sign of failure, but

health is a sign of strength, not weakness, you navigate
life challenges and setbacks. Remember to be kind to yourself.

a solid foundation for resilience and personal development. In a
fast paced world filled with demands and expectations. Setting boundaries

(06:31):
and prioritizing self care are essential for maintaining your well being.
Learn to say no to excessive commitments, prioritize activities that
bring you joy, and carve time for rest and relaxation.
By respecting your boundaries and nurturing your mind, body, and soul,

(06:52):
you empower yourself to face challenges with renewed vigor and clarity. Listen,
every set back and strum your face is an opportunity
for growth and self improvement. Embrace a growth mindset that
dose challenges as stepping stones towards success rather than roadblocks.

(07:14):
By reframing your struggles as voluable learning experiences, you harness
the power to transform adversity into strengths and setbacks into
stepping stones.

Towards your goals.

conquer our silent struggles and emerge as a victor in
the grand tapestry of life. We will have bad days, people,
We will definitely have bad days at times. That's okay.

(08:55):
We have to give ourselves grace and move on tomorrow,
one step at a time. If we get to a
point where we need help, that's perfectly fine. We have
to remember it takes courage to ask, and that is

(09:16):
something we do have. Now, you know, I want to
leave you guys with a quote, and so this quote
is actually one that I came across, and it is
from one of our former presidents, mister Ronald Reagan, and
it says, there is no greater happiness for a man

(09:37):
than approaching your door at the end of the day
knowing someone on the other side of that door is
waiting for the sound of his footsteps. Two

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
