(00:04):
This production is brought to you bythe Reesa's Gull. I'm here talking with
Jason Muse, who performing with KevinSmith Sunday, April twenty eighth at the
Paramount in Huntington as part of theirJay and Silent. Bob get old toward
Jay. This is such an honor. How are you doing, buddy,
I'm very good, very good.I get so nervous and starstruck when talking

(00:26):
to celebrities. Is there a momentin your career where you were sharing the
screen or the stage with somebody andyou're just incomplete awe of like, oh
my god, I can't believe I'mwith this guy right now. I mean,
oh my gosh. Honestly, youknow, the good thing is,
I feel like there's been many.Sorry, so there's been many, honestly

(00:48):
over the years, like getting towork with Will Ferrell, Chris Rock all
of them. Is I'm always feelinga little you know, I guess awkward
and stuff. But but you knowit's like usually we're doing a scene together
or whatever, and I sort of, I guess I just try to get
in there. But yes, Iwould say the one that stands out to

(01:10):
me is, you know, it'sthings, because over the years people are
always like, oh my gosh, what was it like hanging out with George
Carlin and stuff? You know. That one for me was like, like
I admired George Carlin because Kevin wouldtalk about him so much, and I
knew who he was, and Iknow he's a genius and all that.
But I when I was with himand Kevin, they would like have these

(01:33):
conversations and they both use you know, like big words, and they would
talk about his book, and theywould talk about some of his stand up,
like Kevin knew his stand up.Kevin knew everything like Kevin watched and
read and everything about George. Sothey would have these conversations and I would
stand there next to them, andI wouldn't have anything to, you know,

(01:56):
involve myself in the conversation, soI would just stand and listen.
And so I would say, outof most of people like someone like him.
Honestly, he was someone that itwas really awesome to work with and
stuff. But I felt like I'vereally never had like a loan, Like
I never really had a great conversationwith them because I was in I was

(02:17):
like intimidated by him and stuff.I didn't feel like I had anything smart
to say or anything funny to sayto him, So but definitely him,
And then I would definitely say Stanley. You know, Stanley was was our
first studio movie, maulrat You know, we did Clerks, but Clerks was
just a bunch of friends. ButMalratz was the first time We're in Minnesota.

(02:39):
We're staying in a hotel where youknow, there's wardrobe and stunt guys
and and stan Lee is like Iwas reading. That's how Kevin and I
really started bonding over comic books, and like, now here I am getting
to meet Stanley and it was sostill real to me. Like so that
was my first like, oh mygosh, I can't believe I'm meeting Stanley

(03:00):
and this is so surreal. AndI chatted with him a little bit and
stuff like that. But George Carlin, I would say, is the one
who like I felt like, ohmy gosh, I mean, but there's
so many Again, I got theLuke Scott, like you know, Mark
Hamill, Carry Fishers, Kerry Fisher. Yeah, like but again them,
I feel like carry Fisher. Iwas able to sit and chat with and

(03:20):
have a great We had a coupleof great conversations. Same with Mark Hamill,
Like, I don't know, there'slike I feel like there was most
of the people like I would feelintimidated, but I would. I would,
I felt like I had something tocontribute to the conversation. But with
George Carlin, I just was supernervous. I felt like I didn't have
anything that I could contribute and Ijust never really got to have like a

(03:43):
moment with him. So but yeah, those again, I hope that makes
sense that yeah, yeah, no, that makes sense. Now you mentioned
stan Lee and Kevin Smith was wassort of a pioneer with having the stan
Lee cameo because that every Marvel movie, you know, while he was alive,
you would see this dan Lee camo. Is there a Marvel property that
you think is the top of theclass, you know? Is it the

(04:06):
X Men? Is it Spider Man? And have you been keeping up with
any of these, you know, shows and movies that have been coming out
lately. You know, the XMen animated show just came back a few
weeks ago and it has been reallygood. You watching any of them?
Excited? Well, you know what, I watched the first episode and I
thought they were going to put themall out at the same time. So

(04:27):
I watched the first one thinking i'dget the binge watch, but I realized
they weren't putting them all out,So I'm honestly I want to wait because
I love it. Like I'll beon. I know it sounds so goofy,
but seriously, like when the openingstarted with the music and like,
seriously brought me back to my childhood, like I loved watching that the original
back then I'd watched. I've seenevery episode multiple times, so I'm just

(04:50):
saying, so, yes, Iwatched the first episode and I'm very excited
about it, but I really don'twant to wait till each week, so
I want to wait till they allcome out, and I'm just gonna binge
watch all of them. But yeah, I mean, I pretty much.
I try to keep up. Youknow, I've watched I started watching Echo
recently, you know, because Ilove Vintatinofria. I think he's amazing,

(05:13):
so I can't wait, like I'mwaiting. So I started watching Echo,
but I haven't got to finish ityet. But yeah, I've I've watched
all the TV shows, I watchedall the movies. I mean, I
enjoy all of them. I don'tthink there's a bad one, honestly,
because even if I feel like,oh man, this wasn't up to like
I was expecting more and I thoughtit was going to be better, but
it's still is exciting to me becauseagain I watch I think about way back

(05:39):
in the day, I remember goingto comic conventions in like ninety eight and
like seeing the Fantastic Four movie, you know, someone boot like the VHS
and you could buy it at oneof the boots, and then watching it
and that this the you know, the special effects were so bhead and the
movie, but it was still like, oh my gosh, there's a fantastic

(06:00):
for live action movie. And thenThe Punisher with Dolph Lungdren but he didn't
even have the skull, you know, he didn't even have the skull like
the Outfitter. But it still wasexciting that they were attempting to do it.
And here we are years and yearslater, like well just saying for
me to for them to have comicbook movies, live action movies, all
the comic books that grew up reading, to have all these movies and get

(06:21):
to see all these characters like Iused to what I used to. I
remember watching, uh in the beginningwhen the movies first came out, you
know, the X Men movie cameout. I feel like it's one of
the first. Like they had theselittle like up in the up in the
screen on the TV and the barthey would be there would be a scene

(06:42):
between two characters and then the topit would say Hank McCoy you know,
which I knew was the beat.Yeah, but like no one else did,
Like no one else didn't know comicsknew what it was. I mean,
people who knew comics did, ofcourse, But like that excited me
because I'm like, yeah, thisis my world, Like this is my
I mean, and now you know, since Avengers and everything, like so
many people love comics know more aboutcomics and it's a different time now.

(07:04):
But yeah, so anyway, Iknow, again, I don't know if
I answered your question. You answeredseveral questions, but yeah, it is
crazy that you know, you goto a target, you go to a
Walmart, you see you know,uh, you know, you know,
mom and pop and then you see, you know, a teenage girl all
wearing like Captain America's shirts. It'scertainly a different time. If I when

(07:24):
I was growing up, you know, I was one of the few people
wearing a green lantern shirt to school, and you know, you get bullied
for it. But now you know, you're just one of the you know,
normal people now if you're if you'rerocking superhero memorabilia. And I think
that's a smart idea though, whatyou're saying with the The X Men show
and and uh binging it because everyweek it sort of ends and I just

(07:48):
cannot wait for the next week.So avoid spoilers at all costs. But
I'm telling you, Jay, thisis better written and I think a better
show than an original sho from theearly nineties. It's it's really high quality
stuff. So I think you're gonnarun. Yeah. My one friends where
he texted me going, hey,did you watch episode I don't remember if

(08:09):
it was five, Episode five isthe one? Yeah. Yeah. He's
like, it's probably the best episodeof television out there right now. And
I was like, really, it'sthat good. He was, I'm not
kidding you. I was like, well, I can't wait to see it,
but I'm waiting. Yeah. Itwas one of those uh you know,
you just stuck watching the credits withyour jaw open just in awe that

(08:31):
they actually went that And we're notgoing to spoil anything, but it is
insane that they went that route. You mentioned Vincent Inafrio. Now I know
Kevin Smith has said that Nicholas Cageis an actor that he would love to
work with to direct. Is theresomebody you can even pick, somebody that's
dead or live that you would lovethe opportunity to share the screen with.

(08:52):
Oh, I mean, I Iwould want to say, I guess Vincent
oub but I feel like i'd beif I was doing a scene with him.
I would feel, you know, nervous that I'm going to mess up
my part and like it would upsethim, and and I don't know,
so like it's like I think ofall these things, but I guess him.
I mean, honestly, I reallyreally dig him, not just because

(09:15):
of the because he's the kingpin, but I've watched Law and Order Criminal Intent,
like over and over again. It'slike one of my favorite shows.
Or I would say, you knowwho is Honestly, it's goofy, But
I'm a huge murder she wrote fanand I would love to work with Jessica
Fletcher, which isn't her real name, Angela Lansbery. I know it's I
know it's such a weird pool,but it's I just think she's like,

(09:39):
I don't know that show, likeI used to watch Out My mom My
Mom's Past now, but that's theshow we used to watch together, and
I still love this show. Everyonce in a while go on Peacock and
watch it over again, even thoughI've seen it a bunch of times.
So I don't know. I wouldsay, if I'm going for someone like
classic for me, Angela Lansbury someonenow, I'll just throw out Vincent Zenoffrio.

(10:03):
But there's many. I'm sure there'sthere's many. Like you know,
I go to comic conventions and it'sso surreal to me now even I've done
a bunch, But like I'll goin the green room and all of a
sudden it'll be like William Shatner,Brust Campbell, Vincent Zenoffio, and I
always get intimidated and I'll leave thegreen room. Like a lot of people
hang out and sit down at thetable and like eat lunch and stuff with

(10:24):
everybody, and I'm always like Istill even though I'm there, like I'm
I have the green room pass butI still feel like I don't belong there.
You're an outsider. That's sort oflike maybe how you felt with the
George Carlin thing, like you don'tbelong exactly exactly. No, I still
think I've been doing it thirty yearsand I still you know, I still

(10:45):
feel I just don't feel I stillfeel like like I don't fit into the
to the world, even though youknow, we've done tons of stuff and
I love doing what I do.It's like I got to direct. I
don't know if you know, youknow, I directed one movie so far.
I directed a movie called Madness inthe Method, and I got to
direct stan Lee before he passed.Wow, he did a cameo in my

(11:09):
movie, and that was really amazingfor me, Like, not only that
he was in my movie that I'mdirecting, but I actually got to direct
him and and and he came downand hung out for a couple hours,
and that was pretty surreal for me. But yeah, so you mentioned the
comic conventions. You know, I'ma big you know, convention guy.
I actually just went to a conventionin New Jersey to meet a bunch of

(11:33):
athletes and the one guy I idolizedyou know. His name's Drew Bletzo.
He's a football player from back inthe day. And I drove, you
know, two and a half hoursto meet him. I spent all this
money to meet him and you justsort of walk up to him, you
shake his hand, and then youknow, he spent like twenty seconds with
me. So when people meet youat a convention, I guess it really

(11:54):
depends, like do you have timeto really chat with them or is that
sort of the norm, like youjust have to, you know, take
the picture, sign the autograph, move on. I feel like you'd be
more personable though, No, yeah, no, I mean honestly, just
to get his back. It depends. Here's my thought is I feel like
I have time because I usually whatI'll do is I'll sit and chat with

(12:16):
someone and if they start to golike like five minutes, it depends.
I feel like if it's a busyconvention, I mean, you gotta think
I always feel bad because you'll seepeople lined up for people like, I
don't know if this person you're talkingabout how to line waiting around the door
and he's only there one day.Of course he's got to be quick because
he's got to get through the othertwo hundred people. If he spends ten

(12:39):
minutes with you, yeah, he'snot going to be able to spend ten
minutes for everyone. Otherwise the showis going to be like, hey,
we're closing, everyone has to leave. So I always feel but like when
we do photos, it's like thatwhen you do the professional photos, if
you have three hundred people, youonly have like a two hour window to
take three hundred pictures. And Iknow Kevin does always feels bad because people

(13:00):
will come in and they've been waitingin line for an hour and then they're
like all right, and you takea pose, they take the picture,
they're like next and they scoot outayou barely get to say hello. But
again, it stinks, but atthe same time, it's you have to
get through everyone. There was onetime where we literally went over and they

(13:20):
were closing and we didn't even getto get to the last like twenty people,
and we winded up being like,I'm sorry, can we go outside,
We'll take some selfies with you.But it just didn't. So I'm
just saying, unless if he didn'thave a line and he didn't spend five
minutes to you, then that's abummer. I feel like that's you know,
there was no one behind you,or even let be five people behind
you. I feel like when there'snot a lot of people waiting, like

(13:43):
if it's a slower show, I'llsit and spend fifteen minutes. And if
it is busy and someone say, hey, man, I really want to
talk to you about something like youyou know, me and my dad had
this thing and I want to tellyou. And if there's a line of
people, I'll say, hey, listen, can you come you here for
the next couple days? Can youcome around and if you see no one
at my table, come over andwe'll sit in chat for ten minutes.

(14:05):
And usually people will do that unlessthey're leaving. They might go, oh,
man, I'm leaving today after drivefive hours. Then I'll say,
well, can you come back inlike a half hour, and let's see
if people there's no one at mytable, then we could chat a little
longer. You know. Yeah,Well, Jason Muse is a man of
the people. That's why he willtalk to you. Now you have to
do you know that. I've heard, sorry, I have heard stories though,

(14:26):
of people who just in general don'twant to chat. I've heard that
some people like will literally not evenlook up at the person. They'll find
their name, they won't personalize it, and they won't even look at the
person. They'll go next. Yeah, and I don't think that's very nice.
I don't think that's especially some ofthem. You know, it's not
you're waiting a long time, andit's not cheap, you know. So

(14:48):
yeah, I've heard I've heard SusanSarandon lately at some of these conventions.
Not very pleasant to be around. But you know, Jay, you're going
to be at the Paramount on thetwenty eighth. As we were talking fucking
at the beginning of this for Jayand Silent Bob get old you and Kevin
Smith, So what can fans expectfrom the show? You know? It's
it's what's been fun about this islike it's sort of like a peek into

(15:13):
like what's what if someone's like,hey, I haven't seen especially for us,
we haven't done a movie, youknow, and a little bit,
and people are wondering what we're upto. It's like, use it.
Kevin and I open up. Wetell a few stories. You get to
hear some stories about what's going onwith me and Kevin, like, you
know, this is what on ourway here on the plane, this crazy

(15:33):
thing happened. And you know,Kevin and I last week went here and
guess what happened. And we tellsome stories and we tell then we'll tell
some stories from like maybe the lastmovie we made. We just did a
cruise. We did the Jay andSell and Bob Cruise. Askew, it
was our first one. So wewe you know, we'll probably tell a
couple of fun stories about that, and then then usually we wind up,

(15:54):
you know, we play a gameat the end. We we we read
something maybe something Kevin wrote that hasn'tbeen out there yet. Like again,
nothing set in stone, but it'sjust it's just for me. It's I
feel like it's just a peek intowhat's been going on with Kevin and I
and what's what's in the future, what we're gonna be doing, something maybe

(16:14):
people are expecting or hoping or wonderingabout. And then a couple of games
and some stuff. So again,it's it's been fun for us for the
past. I mean, we've doneit for eight years. We've taken sort
of a break. We've done acouple here and there, but it'll be
nice. We're gonna be on theEast Coast and our hometown will be Jersey,
New York. It's gonna be alot of fun. I'm like excited

(16:37):
about it. And plus, Kevinand I haven't done on the wall,
so we have a a lot ofstories to tell and a lot of fun
stuff to talk about. Things thatare happening, Like we have some movies
coming up. I don't want tosay I'm here because we're gonna talk about
stuff on there and some things thatare coming up in the future, things
that have happened in the past.I got kids now, so I got
some funny stories. I'm gonna talkabout my kids, and so well we

(17:00):
speaking of your your kids and yourfamily. How important I know you've been
open about some of the issues thatyou've had in the past, and I've
heard you on Steve O's podcast, you know, talk about some of your
you know, your substance issues thatyou've dealt with. You've been sober for
quite some time. How important ishaving your wife Jordan, who is awesome

(17:21):
from everything I see with her,and you know, being a dad.
How important has that been into yoursobriety? Definitely super I mean, it's
it's been honestly having the kids, you know, the podcast was a huge
help for me keeping straight, like, you know, because Kevin and I
would tour like every weekend, andso I was so busy and we'd be

(17:42):
talking about it. And what wasgreat about the podcast is we used to
do account like, hey, Ihave thirteen years you know, two years
sober, three years sober. AndI felt very accountable. Like I even
used to have bad dreams when we'dwe'd be on the road, I'd have
a dream that I went out anddrank, and I'd be like, oh
my god, I have to geton stage tomorrow and tell you know,

(18:02):
eight hundred people or whatever amount ofpeople that I have one day sober now
because I messed up. And thatused to terrify me. So it was
honestly such a help that we wouldbe doing this because and also I'd be
out somewhere and someone would say, hey, dude, I listen to the
podcast. How many days sober? So people would call me out constantly.
So the first eight years, man, it was such a help for me

(18:23):
to stay on the on track andthen not at the same time. Don't
get me wrong, I was withmy wife, and she was a big
help. Of course she's always supportive, and of course I didn't want to
disappoint her. And then when withthe kids, that just added to it.
It's like I'm so busy bringing thekids to the doctor or then to
school, picking her up from school, bringing her to ballet, you know.

(18:45):
And the little man right now,he's running around like a madman.
He wakes up at you know, five point thirty six, so, you
know, So it's like I'm justconstantly not only wanting to disappoint and be
able to be the present for myfamily. It's like I don't want to
disappoint them, and I just andat the same time, I don't have
time, like it's I don't notthat I don't not not that I couldn't

(19:07):
sneak around, but it's not likeI have time to like go hang out
at a bar and get myself introuble, like I just don't do that.
And and it's been it's been amazing, Honestly, the family has been
like what I've wanted for forever.Kevin always talks about it, like,
you know, when I was twentyfive thirty, I say, like,
man, I really want a family. I want to start a family.
And even even when I was amess, you know, i'd be a
mess, and I'd still that wouldbe my ideal like scenario of what I

(19:32):
thought was, you know, aproductive life is working and having a family,
and and I have that now.So it's been it's been awesome.
And like I said, I'm hereto visit one of my good friends his
daughter's want first birthday, and we'reout in Santa Barbara and so we're making
in a little vacation slash family vacationflash, going to see my friends his

(19:53):
birthday, the kid's birthday. Thatis so it's great, man, it's
been really great. You know. It's funny you mentioned the dreams that you've
had where you've you know, you'vedisappointed. You wake up and you're like,
did I drink? Because I've hadI and I'm an advocate for marijuana,
but I haven't smoked in since twentyeleven, and I would have these

(20:15):
dreams. I'm like, oh mygod, I can't believe I did that.
You play it in your head likedid I really do that? And
then it's funny that I wonder ifthat's a common theme that a lot of
people have dreams that they fall offthe wagon, you definitely think so.
I definitely remember having them, moreso in the beginning, and that was
more even just in general, Iwould, you know. Then with the

(20:37):
podcast, of course there's be meabout disappointing and stuff. But I do
think it's common because I remember, even in the first couple of years,
like it was tough, because Iswear I would drive down the street and
I would smell something and it wouldmake me think of, oh, you
know, this time I was inthe park and I was using, and
I you know, and even thoughit wasn't a good memory, it was

(20:57):
still a memory that would like bringme back and make my stomach turn.
And and then I would go pastthe burger King and I used to go
to this one Burger King and goin the bathroom and use, and it
was you know, again think lookingback, it's bad. But at the
same time, the first couple ofyears, whenever I passed that my stomach
would turn, I'd get butterflies. And yeah, it's definitely was the first

(21:18):
few years. I mean, it'stough in general, but it's tough the
first couple of years. Dreams andmemories and all that stuff. So yeah,
well you mentioned, you know, being disappointed. Do you get disappointed
when you get a bad review oris that just something you try and ignore
because you know everyone's a critic thesedays, and you know, some of
your movies unfortunately don't have the bestRotten Tomato scores, but the fans love

(21:42):
them, and that's what's important. Is that something you just tune out?
Did it? Did it hurt you? At first? Hundred No, I
one hundred percent tune out. AndI've always tuned out, you know,
I honestly am ignorant. I havenot honestly seen I just try to ignore
it because I do think I wouldobsess and that's why I don't, especially

(22:03):
even you would think my first movieI directed, I would like try to
like research people's feedback and like allthat, but I didn't want to,
like I don't want to know, like all I've got to hear, which
is great, and I'm sure it'sall the people that come to see me
at comms and my podcast and Ido. I do stand up comedy too.
I do Jay mus and is amusingstories and afterwards I'll meet with people

(22:26):
and they're like, oh my gosh, I watched your movie you directed.
It was awesome. So the goodthing is I've only heard good things about
the movie I directed. But I'msure there's tons out there with bad feedback,
but I ignore that. I knowKevin has trouble ignoring that stuff,
but I would rather just play ignorant, honestly ignorant. To me, is
is definitely blessed because in my head, every movie that I've done, even

(22:51):
if i've I course can't pass seeingreviews of you know, Rotten Tomatoes,
like you said, bad Rotten Tomatoviews, and or like when Molrats.
I remember Zac and Mary make apoint. We had Craig Robinson and and
you know what, Zach, Ican can't think of the names Seth Rogan
my bad, yeah, you know. And I remember Kevin was like,
dude, these guys the last moviethey did, box office numbers were crazy.

(23:15):
We're gonna this movie is going tobe the one that we're going to
get good box office numbers. RottenTomatoes is going to be awesome. And
I remember like, so, ofcourse I remember that didn't happen, and
we were like, what the heck? But again, I didn't see anyone
specifically point out like well that JaMuws was awesome, I mean a horrible
luster. You know, I justknow the movie didn't do great. Of

(23:37):
course I couldn't ignore that, butI've ignored trying to research me personally and
what people think about my character andabout my acting and about because I really
do think I would obsess about itand it would get in my head so
and then yet I don't pay attentionto that. It's just I'm reminded of

(23:57):
the scene and Jay and Silent Bobstrike back when you go on the website
and you see all the bad reviewsand then you just show up at all
their houses and beat the crap outof them. That I would want to
do that, I really would,because like it's like I know that I've
gotten things where people There was someonerecently who took this really weird and I

(24:18):
only saw it because someone sent itto me, but like someone took a
picture of me and my kid andand like for some reason wrote really nasty
stuff and like like it was meholding her and they put like a circle
around my hand and was like lookat this pig touching his kid or whatever,
something like really crazy and really hurtmean, but in my head,

(24:40):
I was like, man, Iwant like really like, who is this?
I want to find this? Whywould you write that? Like?
So I know that and that waslike one thing but and it was horrible.
Don't get me wrong, But I'mjust saying I know how I felt
for that thing. If I lookedat stuff constantly, I would really want
to be like, let's fly aroundthe country and find everyone. Well.
Speaking of Jensull and Bob strike Back, is there a movie in the the

(25:06):
Viewisk universe that you're most proud of? Is it one of the earlier works?
Is it something more recently? Isthere one that jumps to mind?
You're like, this is where I'mat my peak right now, this is
prime Jay. No, this isSee that's another thing I don't do.
For me watching myself, I alwaysfeel like, oh I could have done
better there, I should have saidthis like that. I do feel like

(25:26):
people tell me just from feedback, not from me personally, but people say
that I did really well in Dogma. They feel like Dogma is the movie
where they felt like I really shined, and like they say, I stole
the movie, you know, inthe sense of that. So I don't
know, and I do feel likethat one. I had memorized the whole

(25:48):
script. I was so nervous becauseKevin told me like, look, dude,
all the movies we've done, we'reworking with Alan Rickman. He's a
British actor. He doesn't play around. If you're doing a scene with and
you mess up your dialogue, he'snot going to be happy, dude,
Like he'll be disappointed and it's reallygoing to mess us up. So he
Kevin got me so nervous. Iused to read the script for hours every

(26:11):
day, from front to back, front to back, and I'm not exagged
rating. I memorized almost every singleperson's role, like I knew everyone's dialogue,
like I could sit there. Wewould go to rehearsals and Kevin would
be like, oh, man,Lee's gonna be late because he had to
do something. He'll be here inan hour. We need someone to read
for him. I'll I'll be like, I'll do it if you don't have

(26:33):
a script, And I'm like,I don't need the script, and I
honestly did, like so I don'tknow. I just feel like because of
that and that, so I wouldsay dogma. I would say dogma,
not only because people told me that, but I do feel like I really
I really was like focused on that, like I really memorize the script and
like, yeah, so I wantto quickly just talk about, you know,

(26:53):
being sober. Was it difficult makingthat first movie while being sober?
As I would imagine you would maybeI have thought of like, am I
still funny without being high? Isthat something that you experienced? Yeah,
I mean I definitely, I definitelythere was times where I would feel that
way that But until we got startedworking, I feel like, you know,

(27:17):
in the beginning, I thought thatI wasn't going to be up to
when we started filming. When westarted filming, like I remember, Clerks
Too was one of the first onesI can remember that I was sober,
sober, like I had been soberfor a couple of years. I was
feeling healthy, and I remember beinglike, oh my god, I'm not
going to be as I'm not goingto be as quick witted, and it's
not going to be as good. But it was the opposite. As soon

(27:38):
as I started working, because Iwasn't waking up feeling like hungover or sick
because I didn't have anything to takeor what have you. I felt like
clear as a bell, and likerealized that I was a lot more on
top of stuff. Like I justfelt better, you know. I wasn't
like like movies before that, meven Dogma for example, Like by the

(28:02):
end of Dogma, I started drinkingagain and using and stuff, and I
remember that I'd be like, oh, man, like this scene we've been
doing the same scene for like, you know, like because sometimes you know,
you film the scene, you blockout the scene and they're like,
man, we got to set upthese lights and do this stuff, and
they're like, gonna be ten minutes. I'm gonna come on ten minutes.
Why'd you call me this set?Man, I'm gonna go lay down in
my trailer because I was hungover andtired and I wanted to go lay down

(28:26):
where clerks too. I'm like tenminutes, fine, man, I'm gonna
sit here and do push ups.I'm gonna sit here and like go over
the scene with someone, you know. So yeah, I would definitely say
I thought that at first, butthen as soon as we started working,
I felt the opposite. That's awesometo hear. Now, Jay, You've
also done some voice work over theyears. You know, the Clerk's animated

(28:48):
show is so good, and Ithink it only had six episodes. I
feel like if that show came outlike six or seven years later, an
adult Swim was really a thing. If it wasn't on ABC, I feel
like that show could have lasted, you know, seven eight seasons. And
then you were just in the Kev'sMasters of the Universe show. You were
stink or I think he did anotherrole. Is that something you'd like to

(29:10):
do more of? More cartoon voices? And do you have a favorite cartoon?
Do you have a favorite cartoon growingup? And what was the experience,
like, you know, doing thevoice work? So for clerks,
I agree with you. The clerksthat made I say that to people all
the time. I say, likethe bummers. I feel like Kevin,
what was before his time? Likethe only thing I remember being out at

(29:32):
that time was maybe the Simpsons,I think, yeah, King of the
Hill. Yeah, it was like, yeah, there was no Rick,
Rick and Morty, there was noyou know, all the Bob's Burgers,
all these other cartoons were not out. And it stinks because you're right,
I feel like if it came outseven eight years later, it really would
have popped, because I think it'samazing, and most of people that have

(29:53):
seen it, I just think noone got to see it. The network
canceled it. But anyway, thatbeing said, I love doing that and
I loved. Yes, I've donelike you said, I've done The Masters
of the Universe. I've I've gotto do a couple animated movies. You
know. I've done some game characters. I was Mort and Fallouts, which

(30:15):
was amazing, this character Mort. But yes, I would love to do
that. It's so much. It'ssuch a different thing because you have to
like I like to be animated withmy hands and move around, but you
can't really because you're in a boothand the microphone picks up everything. But
I mean you wake up, yougo and you could be in your pajamas
and you could sit there for youknow, playing around and stuff. We

(30:37):
have a game coming out actually Ijust did it. My last recording was
we I did voices, well, sound effects and stuff. We're coming out
with a game soon. It's calledJay and Sombob Chronic Blunt Punch, and
it's a mobile game. Looks yeah, I don't know. I think they're
gonna have it on mobile, butright now I know it's going to be

(31:00):
on a couple of the contents.Hell yeah, if you look it up.
Yeah, if you go on myinstagram. Uh, if you go
on my Instagram, I think it'spinned on or my TikTok as well,
it's in there. The trailer forit, honestly, watch it when we
get off the phone. Yeah,I think you'll really dig it. It's
like it's sort of the same styleas like the teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or

(31:22):
the X ME Old Beat them Up. Yeah, like, yeah, so
you could be Jay or Bob andyou can go. You know. It's
but there's really cool effects in it. You'll see it when you watch the
trailer. Bunny in it, Icould see you guys, uh fighting the
Easter Bunny thing. Yeah, MonsterEaster Bunny. It's it's awesome. But

(31:42):
the animation for like the graphics Imean for it is really awesome blunt and
then again like your special power isit's Jay and Bob, but then you
get this special while you're playing it. You get this thing you could turn
into blunt Man and Chronic which arelike almost like mega Man suits. Like
it's pretty Just watch the trailer andyou'll understand. But yes, it's so

(32:07):
much fun, I think doing andthe voiceovers. But it's tough. I
realized. I go on, Igo on auditions all the time, and
I'll be sitting in the lobby andlike the role might be playing. You
might be in there for a rolefor like a twelve year old kid,
and you know, I'll do mybest twelve year old kid, which isn't
great. And then you'll hear someoneYou'll see this eight, you know,

(32:28):
sixty year old gruffy old man,and all of a sudden, I'll hear
him go in the booth and he'llbe able to hear him and he'll like,
hey, man, it's basically andhe'll be like spot on perfect.
And I'm like, like, there'speople out there that that is their job
just so good at it, youknow, And so I always feel like
it's it's tough because it's like,yes, you know, I get lucky
sometimes someone wants the Jay voice ormy voice, you know whatever. But

(32:52):
like when it comes to like themjust casting roles and voiceover actors, man,
they are like spot on, youknow. So it's tough to compete,
to be honest, you know's what'sfunny. Jay I watched the movie
Freddie Versus Jason a few weeks ago. I don't know if you've seen this,
there's the character that's clearly a jripoff. Is that you have you

(33:16):
seen that? Is that something thatyou laugh at? You you laugh at
that? Or what's your reaction whenyou see something like that? Well,
well I laugh at I laugh. But at the same time, I'm just
like, well, why didn't theyjust call me? Like, you know,
I mean, I would have totallybeen in a Freddy Versus Jason movie,
honestly, I would have Like thatwould be so cool for me.

(33:36):
I grew up watching the Freddy's andthe Jason's, you know what I mean.
Like, so if I got tobe in like a movie and got
the like that stuff like appeals tome. Like even if they were like,
hey, we don't we don't havethe money to pay for you or
whatever, I'm like, I'll doit for scale, Like, let's just
do it. I get to belike, honestly, I get to be
in a Friday at thirteen Freddy movie, that'd be amazing. So but yes,

(33:58):
it is funny, but it's morefunny because I just like, why
didn't they honestly call me and ifand maybe they didn't do it on purpose.
I don't know. At least youguys were in Scream three, so
you got you got some horrors onehundred. What's what's next for Jason Muse?
You know, I think you saidyou you might be teasing some stuff

(34:20):
in the coming future. Is thereanything you can announce or is this something
uh uh, maybe we can getan exclusive. Well again, there's things
Kevin wants to announce, so nothingset in stones. There's a couple scripts
and movies that Kevin would really liketo do that we're gonna announce he wants
to talk about on the show. For me, though, for the most
part, man my main thing.Usually I try to squeeze in. It's

(34:43):
harder now with the kids. ButI used to stream like three hours a
day on Twitch. I would playgames, I would open up boxes people
would send me get like Blizzard andand play. People would send stuff and
I'd open them up on stream. And I love doing that. Like,
honestly, if I could like directa movie and do a j and Bob
movie with Kevin, like one ofthose each year and stream the rest of

(35:07):
the time. But also I havemy amusing stories I've been doing that more
than anything is my stand up.Like in June, I'm going to be
in be doing a bunch of standup you know, we're doing the podcast
with you know, like we're comingthere to do the podcast, but that
week you know that we're doing likewe're going to Chicago, then we're Jersey,

(35:27):
New York, and then we're goingto London, and then I come
back and I do a bunch ofmy amusing stories stand up comedy shows and
so yeah, so right now forme in the future is a lot of
stand up comedy shows. I'm tryingto get better at that, trying to
like, you know, be ableto do more with that because I do
enjoy it. But I've been doingclubs like I do, like clubs from
one hundred and seventy five to likethree hundred capacity. My goal is to

(35:50):
hopefully, you know, start geta special or do something eventually and then
you know, Kevin and I hopefullyare going to do another movie that's in
our universe. And again I don'tknow. He has a couple on his
thing, but I don't know whathe is. There's nothing setting stone for
a plan unless he knows. AndI don't know. So, yeah,
there will be another Jambob by theend of the year, and not Jambob

(36:15):
in general, but just a moviewith Jambob somehow in it. Yeah,
I've been reading for years, youknow, whether it's Maul Rats two another
you know, Jane and Silent Bob. I even heard possibly a Clerks for
but everyone that's the fans of youguys. I'm sure will be there first
in line. I know I willbe, and I will be an April
twenty eighth at the Paramountain, Huntington. I'll be there to see Jay and

(36:37):
Silent Bob get old, which I'msure it will be awesome. Jay,
this has been such a pleasure, dude, I mean, this is a
dream come true again to talk toyou. I thank you so much for
giving me just you know, fortyminutes or whatever you gave me. No,
I appreciate it and thank you verymuch. And I will see you
at the show. Tell ya.
