Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ready to roll this Monday right here on one O
four nine Fox Sports Upstate, and we appreciate you listening
and investing your time. However, you might be doing that
either through your radio or maybe even through the iHeartRadio app,
which you can download through the App store or on
Google Play. Just make sure you search one O four

(00:23):
nine Fox Sports once you do that, or just Fox
Sports Upstate, and then you can actually add the station
to your preset button right there. You can even add podcast.
It's all types of easy psy for you. Just make
sure you get the iHeartRadio app, and it's free, it's new, improved,
it is much more streamlined, it's easy to use, and

(00:44):
I do think you will like it, so give it
a shot, give it a try, and of course you
know you can join the conversation eight six four two
four zero five four eight zero. Again that number is
eight six four two four zero five four eight zero.
As we are running solo so today not in full force,
but mister Trey Falco, producer extraordinaire and who is typically

(01:06):
behind the board and behind the mic, he will actually
be back tomorrow, so just know that, so again, join
the conversation eight six four two four zero, five, four,
eight zero. We have a lot to talk about because
it is here, and I know it's so easy to
look at all of the narratives out there and all

(01:28):
of the propaganda that continues to talk about that this
is week zero. College football is here, and here in studio,
I actually have ESPN two on and this is the
first time that College Football Live is on during this
time of day, So you know that things are starting
to get going with college football. But Week zero again,

(01:52):
you know I've talked about it before. We don't need
to do Week zero. We don't need to have some
type of marketing game, marketing magic. College football is college football.
Now we know NFL again is the gorilla when it
comes to marketing and is the epitome of what you

(02:12):
want to be able to do and how you want
to be able to do it in terms of marketing,
getting your fans invested, getting your fans engaged, all of that.
But college football is right up there. Again. I know
it's a gap, but I'm telling you we don't need
to come up with a gimmick for college football. Just
say that this is week one of college football, because

(02:35):
we do have games that are going to start on Saturday,
and we know that the game starts at noon Iowa
State Kansas State, Top twenty five matchup across the pond
in Ireland. I understand that, and it's exciting, but we
don't have to call it week zero. Just call it
week one because I know the big boys everybody is

(02:56):
going to be playing after that. But it's drip, it starts,
so why not just go ahead and call it week one.
So we're going to call it week one and we'll
just continue to boycott the week zero. But I want
to know your thoughts. Is this something that I don't
need to die on this mountaintop, so to speak. Just
let it go, Just be thankful and enjoy that we've

(03:20):
got college football coming up, because I know everybody is
equally excited about this opportunity. Here. We have somewhat made
it through the rest of the summer, schools back in session.
We know colleges are back on campus, and now we
know college football is here. And then right around the corner,

(03:41):
obviously we do have NFL, so we have a lot
to get to. We also will look at some of
the weekend's best We've got the daily rundown, and we'll
start making some predictions. We'll start doing some season previews
later this week and also some NFL options, and next
week we do have some guests coming in studio and

(04:01):
very excited about that to do some season previews in
college football. So stay tuned right here on one O
four night and Fox Sports Upstate. And remember this is
now the new programming that we have four hour block
here in the afternoon from three to seven pm, the
Richmond Weavers Show presented by Ingles Markets and also Game
On with John Ellis, and then on Mondays, stay tuned

(04:22):
right here on one of four nine Fox Sports Upstate
because you have overtime with John Ellis and this is
an opportunity of diving even more into football. And John's
over there doing some homework right now. I saw him.
He is prepping. He is getting ready for the overtime
show starting at seven pm tonight and again that runs
from seven to nine pm. So again stay tuned right

(04:45):
here on one of four nine Fox Sports Upstate or
even through the iHeartRadio app. All right, so I do
have to talk though some college football and if you
might have seen some of the headlines about the college
football playoff, and I'm pausing a little bit because I'm
a little frustrated. And the reason being is because we

(05:06):
continue to try to manufacture different scenarios as far as
what's going to be the best option for college football
moving forward, and especially being able to crown a national champion.
And we know that we have evolved. We have moved
past the old school way, the archaic way of AP

(05:31):
voters and UPI voters voting a national champion. We're trying
to settle it more on the field, and we got
away from just using computers with the BCS. We did
at least move to a four team playoff, and that
was a significant move. I think everybody felt good about. Okay,
at least we get some playoff atmosphere in college not

(05:57):
that we didn't have some of that in some of
the big bowl games, or if it was BCS one
versus two, yes, that felt like a big game, but
it was just that one game. And then the four
team playoff at least gave us three games that we
could really get excited about and the fans could really

(06:17):
be engaged, and we got an extension of the college
football season, and I think for all fans you would say, Okay,
that's a win no reason to go backwards. And now
we have a twelve team playoff, and even better from
the fan perspective and even better from the player perspective,
because now more teams have an opportunity, and we've talked

(06:40):
about in college football it does seem to be the
haves and haves not and knowing that it's almost a
very exclusive type of club that is sitting there that
has an opportunity to win a national championship, So why
wouldn't we want to expand that? And I still believe

(07:00):
sixteen is the magic number, that's where we should land.
But we've seen all types of reports that are out
now that the Big Ten is floating around an idea
of a college football playoff with twenty four to twenty
eight teams in the playoff. And I know Eli Drinkwitz,

(07:21):
head coach at Missouri, he seemed to be in left
field and on a side I should say, on an island,
so to speak, by himself saying hey, why don't we
do a thirty team playoff? And I think there was
an initial reaction of oh, what is he talking about.
That's just a coach talking. But now when you have
the Big Ten talking about an opportunity of expanding to

(07:45):
twenty four to twenty eight teams in a playoff. And
I loved the ex post or the tweet, however you
want to describe it now from Bill Conley who said,
can somebody unplug the Big Ten and plug him back in?
Almost like a reset that you would do on your
computer or some type of technology that when you call

(08:06):
customer service, that's the number one thing that you have
to unplug it, let it sit there and rest for
thirty seconds, and plug it back in. And sure enough,
there's several times that that does work. And so that's
almost how the Big Ten is right now. I mean,
what are we doing thinking that the twenty four to
twenty eighteen playoff is something that would be the best

(08:29):
scenario for college football. Now, you can look at it
from the perspective of, man, that's a lot of teams.
That's great, that's extending the season. That's fun, that's exciting,
you get that playoff atmosphere. But there's also a point
of too much and too many scenarios playing out. And
that's where I think we're trying to view this from

(08:52):
a perspective of how can we solve this problem in
a unique way, and if it is even a problem,
I don't know it's necessarily a problem. And I know
part of it is is that people are looking at
it from the number of teams that are in college
football one hundred and thirty two teams and only twelve

(09:13):
get in, So you're looking at less than ten percent
of the teams have a shot at winning a national championship.
And so that's why we need to have a bigger
pool of teams. But that doesn't mean better, that doesn't
mean that the fans will be invested the same way,
because there's somewhat of a dilution that occurs, a water

(09:36):
down type of effect, and that's why I think it
just continues to create a playoff mess. And right now,
the twelve team playoff, it's not perfect. It's got flaws.
I get that, And that's where I'm trying to understand
why we keep looking at some avenue that is completely

(09:59):
different than something that we already know works. It's sitting there.
We're thrilled about it each and every year we talk
about it. We can't get enough of it. And that's
the NFL. In the NFL playoff system, fourteen teams, seven

(10:20):
from each Division fourteen of the thirty two teams get in.
That's say forty four percent of the teams get in.
I don't know if people are really too upset about that.
I don't know if we are annoyed that you do
have wild card opportunities. I know New York Jet New
York Giant fans are not. They love the fact because

(10:42):
that's how they won two Super Bowls. But why can't
we just look at something that sometimes is simple. It's
right there, and we know out of the one hundred
and thirty two teams at the FBS level, there's only
a handful that's going to win. That's why we have
a top twenty five because we know teams outside of
that really don't have a shot in in all reality,

(11:03):
do you have a shot if you're out of the
top fifteen. For the most part, you don't. And that's
part of it. And that's why let's look at something
that is already there. We've got the formula, we've got
the format, we've got the blueprint. It's the NFL. Can

(11:24):
you go to say a thirty six team, forty eight
team type of college football conference and have those teams
that know that they can compete even from a financial standpoint.
That's the big kicker here that they have the resources
to be able to do that. Can you have those
teams in there, and then can you have divisions from there?

(11:47):
You could have separate divisions and then they meet. You
could have eight division winners, you could have eight wild
card teams. You have sixteen teams. That makes the playoff.
What's wrong with that? Is that not a a solution
that would keep fans engaged, keep fans invested into that
and sixteen teams we're probably going there anyway, So why

(12:11):
not just look at that type of opportunity instead of
just trying to create something that we've already got a model,
We've already got a format, we've already got, as I mentioned,
the blueprint, that can work. So let me know your thoughts.
Eight six four two four zero five four eight zero
and let's head out to the Ingles hot line right now,

(12:33):
the Richmond Weavers show. Who's this, Delvin? How are you?
My friend?

Speaker 2 (12:39):
I'm gonna good. You do it? First of all, you
do it the model. If they want to look at
the model, I'm going to the fourteen. Just look at
what SCS does they got to work twenty fourteen in
the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
That's so, yeah, Delvin, somehow it works somehow.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
Yeah, Dels Yeah. And two just about a big ten
want to get Big ten basic the Big ten want
to get Austine eighteen or eighteens in players. They want
to all the they want to all the comments they just
about them, and they just want to be the Big
ten in the playoffs. That's why they trying to to seven.
You notice how the Big ten the SEC want to
get more teams than the players than any of the conference.
That's why they want to because it basically like the basically,

(13:14):
nobody ain't gonna want to see that because nobody want
to see a Big ten Ruther SEC. You think everybody
can want to watch that conference or no. So basically
they're basically putting themselves in there in trouble. They think
they got there, they say they got the layers, but
they don't because a lot of them said, we don't
want you. No Big ten SEC school rusty to each
other all the time. We want different teams in there.
So basically you try to put itself. That's how they
trying to do get more of their teams in the playoffs.

(13:35):
Who don't deserve to be a players out because you
might see a citizt the way they trying to do it,
a Big ten. You see, uh, USC could be seventy six,
but they were assistant sistant, but they want them in
the playoffs. Everybody trying to get to seventeens.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
Well, and if you know, based on their proposal, it
would be seven teams would get automatic bids from the
SEC and the Big ten. So half of the field
of that twenty eight would be SEC or Big ten team.
And I didn't mention that, So I appreciate you reminded
me about that, Devin, because from a college football perspective,

(14:07):
when we've talked about the geography of it and how
for a period of time it was regionally based, but
now college football is a national entity, So why not
keep it national? Why do you want to just relegate
it into a half of the field is just the
SEC and Big Ten. It doesn't make a whole lot
of sense, Delvin.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, And I want to ask it. I
want to ask a Big ten question. So what are
you trying to say? If you see a USC go
city seats, they got to go to the playoffs, it'll
be one of the automaticotias won the playoffs. I want
to see how he explained this situation.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
I don't know if he could, Devin, that's the great question, Devin.
We appreciate the call. Yeah, you call any times, that's
for certain. And so Devin makes a good point. Yes,
I know the SCS they have twenty four teams, and
I get it. So again, you could look at college
football here on the SBS level and say, well, hey,
so it's not out of the realm that you could

(15:01):
do twenty four teams. But here's the caveat the Big
ten in sec what they're proposing, and especially the Big Ten,
it's the automatic bids. That's the issue here, is that
they're wanting to take up half of the field. And
that's the problem. That's not going to fly. That's not

(15:24):
what college football fans want. They want the opportunity or
at least feeling the opportunity that they have a shot.
And that's why right now, in all reality, some of
these teams, do you feel that you truly have a shot.
And I want you to be truthful with yourself as
a fan, do you feel that your team truly has

(15:46):
a shot? If you're not one of the big boy fans,
and that's where we are with college football. That's the
reality of it. So why don't we just go ahead
and have that separation. It's trending that way in so
can we not look at a college football league, super
conference however you want to title it, describe it, market it,

(16:10):
whatever it is. But at the end of the day,
it could be so exciting where you could have something
very similar to the NFL. And that's where I'm curious also,
And so anybody out there, this is almost a serious
This is I shouldn't say almost, This is a serious
question that I'm trying to uncover. What's so wrong with

(16:36):
having a model in college football that is the same
as the NFL in terms of the structure. We're still
going to cheer, We're still going to have allegiance to
a particular university. We're still going to be excited when
they come running down the hill or they come through
the tunnel, or sandstorm is playing, whatever it is, We're

(17:00):
still going to be excited. And why not have a
twelve game regular season and then head into the playoffs
and sixteen teams make it and you have an opportunity
of settling it much more on the field than having
committees and having propaganda and having all of these scenarios

(17:25):
playing out, Well, this team should be in this team
should not. Well you settled on the field. Yes, we know.
In the NFL we might say, oh, this team was
actually better, they should be in the playoffs, or they
should advance in the playoffs. Well they got beat They
shouldn't have lost that other game. Yes they were better,
but they lost. Fans can deal with that much more.

(17:50):
And don't we want that? Don't we want that settled
on the field, And that's why we're already moving that way.
And I know we still we potentially want to hold
on to this amateurism and maybe that's why we don't
want it to be this NFL light. But are we
not already there? And can we not get to that

(18:14):
point where we have more structure, we have more organization,
we have the opportunity of just following our teams, talking
about our teams, not worried about NIL, not worrying about
the transfer portal. Let's clean all of that up. I
know there's issues there, believe me. And I think we've

(18:36):
got smart enough people in this country that we can
come up with some of the solutions. But when we're
trying to look at it from a greed perspective, and
it's about money. That's why the Big Ten wants seven
automatic bids for their conference and they want the SEC
to come join them because it's the mediaite. Still, they

(18:58):
want the biggest bang they can get of the money
that's being pulled in so they can distribute it to
their schools so their schools will have a better opportunity
of winning the national championship, rather than hey, let's all
come together for the betterment of college football so it
can be sustained, so it can continue driving fan bases

(19:21):
crazy in a positive way because they're so excited about
their school, about their university, and about that opportunity of
winning a national championship. We try to over complicate things
too many times in life, and here we are once
again here with the college Football Playoff, trying to over
complicate it. We don't need to do that, but you

(19:41):
can join the conversation eight six' four two four zero
five four eight. Zero we got to take this break
and we'll continue This monday edition of The Richmond Weavers,
show presented by our good friends At Ingles, Markets right

sports up stayed. In, yes it is a little hot out,
there AS i think we're going to be cooling off
just a little, bit but it's Still. August the dog
days Of august are still around and not a good

(21:13):
time for YOUR ac to be, out that is for.
Certain and yes you probably heard it in my voice
because it is. True, yes, upstairs AC's not working one
hundred percent at The Weaver house and so hopefully we
will get that to. Rectify BUT i, know, remember we
still HAVE. Ac we still have the ability to cool

(21:35):
ourselves off THAT i can't even imagine back in the
day without any type of fans anything of that, nature
because growing UP i actually didn't have central ac until
maybe ten years, old eleven years, old somewhere around in.
There we had the big attic fan there in the.
House open up the, windows open the, doors yet screen.

(21:58):
Door you get screens on your, windows and the big
attic fan pulls in air and that's how you cooled.
Off that's how it was back in the. Day oh,
yes walking to school in the, snow all of. That
but we do appreciate you joining the. Show you can
give us a call eight six' four two four zero
five four. Eight zero again as we Continue this monday

(22:19):
edition Of The Richmond weavers show Presented By, Ingles Markets
Mister trey falco will be. Back TOMORROW and i did
pose the, question AGAIN and i am SERIOUS when i
pose this question about the college football AND the nfl
and the similarities and the differences that we. Do have
what is so wrong with having a QUOTE unquote nfl
light for? College, football again based on where we are

(22:44):
in the world of, college athletics where we know revenue sharing,
is there it is pay, for play it's all. Of
that we do need to clean. THINGS up i think
we can all admit, to that but still trying to
hold on to this amateurism, And, THAT oh i only
will support college football if they do things different THAN

(23:07):
the nfl BECAUSE the nfl. Is, professional, well again. It's
DIFFERENT now i think we have moved. Past that so
let's look at trying to create the best product that
is available as fans so we can be excited. About
it and can you imagine some of these games? ON

(23:28):
campuses i mean it would. Be insane we already saw
how some of the games were. Last year can you
imagine if it was multiple rounds that you had games
on campus very similar to what we see IN, the
nfl where you have home teams there and the visiting
team coming in and it's based on your record and

(23:49):
the excitement and the fan bases get to, celebrate THAT
and i think there's just so much positive that can come.
From it and so let, me KNOW because i am
wide open in terms. OF hearing i do pride myself
on trying to be objective and hearing from, all sides
and my wife does a fantastic job, of that AND

(24:11):
so i try to follow suit. With, that, hey okay
let me just Make sure i'm seeing things from. Every
perspective so THAT'S why i want. To know let me know,
your thoughts what would be so wrong with having something
very similar TO the nfl in college football in terms of,
the scheduling, the structure, the divisions, the format, the playoffs

(24:32):
and then crowning the champion eight six four two four
zero five four. Eight zero and let's head out To
the engles hot line, right Now The richmond. Weavers show, who's, This?

Speaker 3 (24:41):
Hey richmond how you doing? This funny? One afternoon? Doing?

Speaker 1 (24:45):
Fantastic billy how, about you? My friend doing?

Speaker 3 (24:48):
Very well you know you was mentioning me remembering times
when there WAS NO ac i definitely remember those times
early eighties and before in, the seventies it was, very common.
That's right you know some people they had one house
where they had a, window unit or one room where
they had a. Window unit but that. WAS it, i
MEAN and i don't remember it seemed like it was. That,
hot now we spent most of our, times outside so

(25:11):
it was a, different time.

Speaker 1 (25:12):
But we're acclimated.

Speaker 3 (25:13):
To, It, BILLY yeah i mean now because it gets
to be eighty five or ninety, degrees now it, feels like,
you know you can't. STAND it, i mean, of course,
you know we go back like three or four weeks
where it was ninety five degrees. Every day this is
cool to, Me NOW so i guess we got acclimated again.
Really bad, BUT anyway i think summer's. About over we paid,

(25:33):
our dues so it's time to. Move on and it's
hard to believe, that both, you know the in state
universities and then surrounding universities are playing football within. Two
WEEKS so i guess we are officially in. FOOTBALL season
i know there's a few games this weekend, college wise
so you know. It's here so as far as, your

(25:54):
question your question and, YOUR statement i agree with everything that.
You said, the modelist it's not a. Rocket scientist you don't.
Have science you don't have to BE an mit professor
at uh, YOU, know mit or a rocket science PROFESSOR
at mit to get this. Equation right because it's sitting
right there looking at you with the blueprint FROM. The nfl,

(26:17):
YOU know i don't want it to be a gigantic
postseason for as far as the. Playoff goes i'm okay keeping,
the BOWLS but i don't want it to be twelve.
TEAMS either i don't like. THE buys i just, You
know i'm glad that THEY they i understand they didn't
want to go straight to sixteen, from four so, you
know it was a little bit of trial.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
And error, That's, RIGHT yep i, get it.

Speaker 3 (26:40):
That's RIGHT but i don't like, the buys And so
i'm hoping that they go to Sixteen or i'd be
okay with twenty four as long as there's not going
to be. Any buys and, YOU know i don't agree
with Everything That lane, kiffon says and IN fact i
tend to not agree with most of what. He SAYS
but i think he said. SOMETHING right. I noticed i.
NOTICED it i don't know if it was prior TO
this sec me days or when he, said this but he, was,

(27:02):
saying well the formulas just use the top. Twenty five.
You know now you can debate on which top twenty
five it, would BE but, i mean, you know you
can come up with some kind of a formula Where
it SOMETIMES the sec is going to get eight or
nine teams because at the end of the year they've they've,
earned that and sometimes they're going to get three. Or
four sometimes THE a sec is going to get four

(27:23):
or five teams because there's conference. Earned that and sometimes
they're going to. Get two, you know the same thing
with a. Big keen they may get seven or eighteens
one year and only three, the next because every year
is different and it stands on its. Own merits and
the top, twenty five although, it's flawed it's probably at
the end of, the year it's probably the most married.
BASED system i think that they can come. Out with,

(27:46):
let's say if they expanded to to sixteen or twenty, five,
teams well.

Speaker 1 (27:50):
And there is something to be said about looking at
the top. TWENTY five i would question where you were
going here in terms of is that the best system
and based on what we have as far as if we're,
ranking it it is once we get to the college football,
playoff rankings but how much are we supposed to trust,

(28:10):
the VOTERS the ap voters and also the. Coaches poll
and also then you look at the college football playoff
rankings where yes you have, other individuals but it's former,
athletic directors it's people not truly engaged in watching a

(28:31):
whole lot of. College football so we're still back to
a selection committee and ranking based on in where some
teams might have been ranked at the beginning of, the
season And so THAT'S why i still contend let's just
have it where you settle it on. The field you play,
a record and that's, your record and that can determine,

(28:53):
the standings and the standings determine. The playoffs how we
have it IN, the nfl you eliminate some of this
rhetoric that we have in the propaganda that this conference
should have this many teams and this conference shouldn't whatever
that might. Lay out THAT'S where i get frustrated that

(29:15):
we're not looking at a simple solution based on what
happens out on.

Speaker 3 (29:21):
The. Field, yeah well, And listen i'm not for. Automatic
qualifiers i've never. HAVE been i think that's. TOO restrictive
i think it should be based upon what you did
on the field. That Year and i'm not talking ABOUT
when i say he's, A pole i'm not saying lest
he's the ape or, the coaches, you know but it
could be something. LIKE this i KEEP these i still.

(29:42):
CALL it i guess it's the. Playoff. POLE now i
still like to call, it, because yeah that's what he reminds.
Me of. That's, right yeah there's still let's just, be
honest there's still politics played there this sole so even
when we look at that all that comes, out there
there are cause basis. Being PLAYED but i do think
it's Probably here i'm going to be. More accurate they

(30:08):
tend to get it right.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
More time but.

Speaker 3 (30:12):
You can say that, they're using at least to a,
certain EXTENT the nfl as. A model they haven't they
haven't refined it yet and they're still working on. This
PROCESSES but i think at, one point, YOU know i
don't know when that point is going, to be but
some some point in, the future they're going to refine
it to where it's going to be, pretty easy uh
formula where they get it right most of. The time and,

(30:34):
YOU know, I remember i don't know about a, month
ago the guy that calls in that that That that lizon,
BOWLINGS rings i believe somewhere in that area that Played
at clemson was, talking, about well he thinks it's still
going to be the same. BLUE bloods i just disagree.
With that it may be some of the same blue
bloods that, get IN but i do believe that there's
going to be upsets. Over time it's not one year.

(30:57):
SIMPRAL sized i think you're going to have to give
it in years and you want to. SEE that, i
mean if you think about it this, past, year yeah
you Could Say ohio state with The, blue blood but
if you go back to the playoff OR the bcs formula,
before that they wouldn't even had a chance to win
the national championship under those scenarios because them Losing the
michigan would have knocked. Them out they wuldn't have made.
Those championships so they themselves were actually even though they

(31:20):
qualified The, blue blood there's no doubt, about that they
were a.

Speaker 1 (31:23):
Surprise team, that's right and that's, why again at least
we have made the step forward to the twelve. TEAM playoff,
i mean that is definitely a positive. Step forward AND now,
i mean and there's part of me that, does, say,
well hey let's just see how this plays out for
a couple of years and then can we, look at,

(31:44):
you know the next evolution of what the college football playoff.
Will be but to go from twelve and we're thinking
about maybe, to sixteen and then all of, a sudden
now we're talking about, TWENTY eight, i mean that's just
ludicrous that we're. Doing that and to your point that
we've got automatic bids or, automatic qualifiers and half of

(32:07):
the field would be just coming from. Two conferences that
makes zero sense. To, me again THAT'S where i feel
like we're just trying to manufacture to, manufacture something rather,
than hey let's just look at, this model because even
if it's the top, Twenty, five billy there's there's the
criteria right, there, that hey you don't have if you're

(32:30):
a team that is consistently in the top sixty or,
YOU know i should say out of the. TOP thirty,
i mean do you really have a shot at winning a?
National championship?

Speaker 3 (32:42):
Maybe, not well, you know this is not apples to
apples when you COMPARE the nfl to, college football because
the nfls there's thirty. Two teams there's still teams in
that thirty two field that have not even made A,
super bowl let alone. Win, it yeah so you're going
to always have hads and, have.

Speaker 1 (32:56):
This, That's, Right yes but in.

Speaker 3 (32:58):
College football you're talking about. A scale so because, of
that you're going to even have a bigger base of
has and. Have NOTS but i do think that there
is going to be very instance now that we've, got
it because, You know i've made this statement on. YOUR
show i don't know a handful of times if you
go back to prior TO, the bcs there. WERE years,
i mean, you know this Is a clemson fan that

(33:20):
number one didn't even play number two because this Was
the bowl of. Tie IN so i think they're working
towards getting, it right. You KNOW and i said, Twenty,
four yes twenty eight would be better. To me if
they're going to expand it to, twenty four they need
to go to twenty EIGHT because i hate these DOUG
on i don't, like THIS and i know they do
it IN, the NFL but i think we're going to
see a day when there's no buys IN, the nfl

(33:41):
because remember it used to be two buys and now.
It's one they're going to expand it one more time
to where ones are the number one seeds are not
getting to. BUY either i don't. Like that and the last,
thing is, you know if you go, and look AND like,
i said this was the, first year so. They're trying
its trial. And error but, to me THE one i
think THAT the nfl has got right from the beginning

(34:02):
as far as their, playoffs goes the number one seed
should always have the easiest path because you've earned that,
that's right and that's not what happened last Year. With
oregon they did not have the, Easiest, path no.

Speaker 1 (34:13):
They didn't they had To Play ohio State After ohio
state had beaten Up on tennessee and they came in,
there Hot and oregon was not ready. For that, SO
yeah i do agree with that.

Speaker 3 (34:26):
For, certain YEAH and i don't think, And listen i'm
Not Saying ohio state want have. Won, IT anyway i
do believe that they were the best team. LAST year
i me and you had. That debate, YOU know I Picked,
notre dame You Picked. OHIO state i think when the,
PLAYOFFS started I Thought notre dame was going To Play.
OHIO state i forgot who You Had ohio, state playing
so we.

Speaker 1 (34:45):
Were, BOTH yeah i Actually had Oregon Beating. OHIO state
I had. OREGON plays i.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
Keep thinking for some reason that You Had ohio state at.
The beginning, that's right You Picked ohio state after they
Beat THE oregon i. Got. You, yes anyway we ended
up being very close to what the outcome was. Going
to BUT like, i said if you go back to the,
Old System ohio state would not. Have qualified SO but
i do think that it had to play it Out
in oregon would have had the. EASIEST path i still

(35:10):
personally Believe That ohio state was probably the, best TEAM
so i think it would have worked out that. Way
anyway but they still, To me oregon earned that number
one seed for. A reason i think they should have
had the. Easier path but that's. Just, Me anyway i'll
hang up And. WISTEN richmond i. Appreciate it you have a.

Speaker 1 (35:25):

thoughts too as far as where we should go with

(37:15):
college football and the playoff system and comparing it how
we see the success WITH, The nfl so let me know.
Your thoughts eight six four two four zero five four.
Eight zero again that numbers eight six four two four
zero five four. Eight zero but as we Do, each
monday let's take a look at the best performances from,

(37:37):
the weekend the biggest moments from.

Speaker 3 (37:40):
The Weekend It's riches.

Speaker 1 (37:42):
Weekend's best.

Speaker 4 (37:44):
Really delightful, all right we're going to start in the
world of golf and we're going TO The us Amateur
Because mason howell would WIN The us amateur and now
he gets entry in To, THE Masters us open And
The open championship.

Speaker 1 (38:05):
Next year, so yeah absolutely amazing what he was able. To,
do Again Not, jimmy abdo who was the four two
and ninety two ranked amateur in. The world he did
end up losing there in, the semifinals but Congratulations To.
Mason howell and think about, this though when you look

(38:27):
AT The us amateur and Even The, junior amateur do
you Know That tiger woods he WON The Us junior
amateur three consecutive years and then would go on to
WIN The us amateur three. Consecutive years so for six,
straight years the junior champion and the amateur champion Was Mister. Tiger,

(38:52):
woods yeah that's why we still Look At tiger woods
as the goat. And golf but somebody on his heels
so Potentially As, scottie scheffler as he would get the
two shot victory There in maryland AT The bmw championship
and now still ranked the number one golfer in the

(39:13):
world And Now scotti scheffler has thirteen straight finishes of
tie for eighth, or better including. Five wins he's had
twelve Wins since march of twenty, twenty four Including, three
Majors the Players and. Olympic, Gold Yeah scotti scheffler is playing.
Extremely well and he had a chip on seventeen from

(39:36):
Off the it was in the fringe off the green
and maybe thirty forty yards and hold. It out, Absolutely Incredible,
scottie scheffler what he's?

Speaker 3 (39:50):
Been doing?

Speaker 1 (39:50):
All right how about? This though IN the Nfl, PRESEASON
again i know, it's preseason but are we starting to
see some guys that might suppor rise, some people and especially.
At quarterback, you know we're not Talking About. Shador, sanders
no we're Talking About jackson dart For The New. York,
giants again, it's preseason but he was fourteen of sixteen

(40:13):
for one hundred and thirty seven yards and. Two touchdowns
so that's now two impressive Performances By jackson DART and
i think he's slowly starting to turn some heads There In.
New YORK and I Know russell wilson, he's there would
say he's going to be. His Job But jackson dart
does seem to be a guy that's playing. Really well

(40:35):
and also going back, TO golf i did forget to
Mention This, akshay batia who had an opportunity there on
the seventeenth toll OF The bmw championship to win a
car an ALL electric bmw if you hit a hole,
in one and sure enough, he did he would hit
a hole in one and then after that round he

(40:58):
would somehow finish in the. Top thirty he was, number
thirtieth that would allow him to move on to next
Week To, east lake part of the. Top thirty and
he did it by, One stroke so that hole in
one that was the thing that put him over. The
top and then how about this IN the. NFL preseason
i don't know if this has. EVER happened i love

(41:20):
for somebody to try to do the research and find
out if this has ever HAPPENED in. Nfl preseason there
were three pick sixes this Past weekend, ANDREW Mccouba kJ
Henry And andrew booth with, pick sixes and all three

(41:41):
of them Played. AT clemson i don't know if that
has ever happened IN. The nfl where three pick six,
is preseason regular, season whatever and they all came from the.
Same SCHOOL now i know mccuba he Transferred. TO texas
i totally. Get that but he did play several Years
at clemson and was a mainstay there in. The Secondary

(42:04):
so i'm going to say he has Been A clemson
tiger and is Still A. Clemson tiger but three pick
sixes that is insane when you think about it from.
That perspective and then also IN, the nfl and he.
Has arrived if you Didn't See ashton genty just bowling
over several of the forty nine, ers THERE and i

(42:27):
know forty Nine oor'n neil was probably, not happy although again,
it's Preseason But ashton genty does seem to be that
he's going to be a force to reckon with there IN.
The nfl but With The Las, vegas raiders Especially With
pete carroll at, THE helm i Think pet carroll might
have some success There In. Las vegas, all right that's
some of the. Best performances but you can let me

(42:49):
know one of your. Best performances give us. A call
eight six' four two four zero five. Four eight zero
again that number is eight six four two four zero
five four eight zero this break and we'll wrap up
our One Of The richmond weavers Show Presented. By ingles
markets right after.

Speaker 5 (43:05):
This down by la dance around down, down.

Speaker 1 (43:38):

Speaker 5 (43:41):
Y'all don't say, stop your mom dude a bear round
a trouble.

Speaker 1 (43:47):
Down, and yo no. That's my due though we.

Speaker 5 (43:50):
Don't like you don't das black, black bow lady stop to,
look at staff do y'all dass do y'all.

Speaker 1 (44:01):
Quick wats white by side when you call you?

Speaker 5 (44:13):
Daddy under white.

Speaker 1 (44:14):
Wrapping up Our one this monday Edition Of The richmond
weavers Show Presented. By engles markets right HERE on one
o Four nine, five sports upstate much more, to talk
about so stay tuned right here and you can join
the conversation even through the text line eight six four
triple seven ninety. Five ninety three again that text line

(44:37):
is eight six four triple seven ninety, five ninety three
and We do have texter eighty six ninety four jumping
in and asking the question Do you believe clemson is
really as good as? Their ranking implies and how does
this team compare with other highly ranked years like twenty sixteen. And,

(44:58):
twenty eighteen yes we're going to dive Much more into
Clemson And even south carolina as we get ready for
our season previews coming up this weekend even. Into NEXT
week but I do believe clemson is really good as
their ranking, implies right now and we've, seen various polls
and we Know from the coach's POLL and the ap.

(45:22):
Four versus six i've also seen other Individuals who have clemson.
Ranked number one when You look, at clemson's offense that's
where a lot of people are excited about based on the.
Production coming back now we know It's. Quarterback kave klebnik
how is he? Going to perform how is he going
to be able to take that next step and Be

(45:43):
A true, heisman trophy contender which a lot of people
are already, penciling him in taking A Trip to new
york and even looking at could he be THE number one,
Nfl draft pick but that doesn't. Really mean anything it's
all about what he's going to do for This season
for clemson and will the wide receiving corps will they

(46:03):
be The. DIFFERENCE for clemson i do believe on, the
offensive line, You stay healthy you've got, Veteran guys there you've.
Got stability there so can you have That opportunity where
kate club that can make enough plays, with his legs
but also throw to guys some of, these pass catchers
these receivers that take these fifty to fifty balls and

(46:25):
make them. Eighty twenty balls and that's what made those other,
teams So Great that Deshaun Watson, and trevor lawrence they
had the ability to throw to those. Type of DUDES
and then i think THERE is. An x Factor How
Will anner adam randall be? AT running back i think
he's going to be. SURPRISED this year i. REALLY do
so i think offense is going to be clicking on All.

(46:49):
Cylinders for clemson the question is going to be on.
That defensive side can they? Slow teams down can they
put themselves in Position to let kate go out there
and ball in the offense, Do their thing because that's
when you look at like a twenty eighteen team that
was the team defense was. The main stay now you
also had hell. Of an offense don't, get me wrong

(47:11):
but that defense was elite. At the time but we
will break that down in much more, detail coming up
so thank you for the text as We'll Continue The
richmond weaver Show Presented by engles markets right after this
