Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hour two of the Richmond Weaver Show, presented by Ingles Markets,
continues to roll here on one oh four nine five
Sports Upstate and you know you can join the conversation
eight six four two four zero five to four eight
zero and let's head out to the Ingles hot line
right now. We've got Sean on the line. Good afternoon
to you, sir. Hey, how you.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Doing, Richmond? How you doing, Trey? What's going on?
Speaker 3 (00:28):
We're hanging in there, brother, how about you?
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Pretty good man. I was cruising the internet last night.
I was on YouTube and I didn't realize, and I
don't know if you've covered it, but they made a statue,
a bronze statue for Tom Brady up the Jillette Stadium.
Oh yes, and it's really it's really nice, man. I
mean it really looked, you know, it looks good as
opposed to some statues.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
You know, Wade, that's right.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Yeah, yes, we have seen us in history some bad statues.
But I did see that, and we were going to
talk about and that in the Daily Rundown, our latest headlines.
But yes, thank you for bringing that to our attention again, Sean.
And I did see some memes out there though, that
they had the statue of Tom Brady, and then behind
(01:17):
the statue of Tom Brady was a taller statue of
Eli Manning because of the success of Eli Manning, Yes
over those Patriots.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
I heard Tom Brady, you know, the acceptance speech for
the statue or whatever, and he was like, yeah, you know,
it's for Pats fans and for Jets fans against Jets fans,
something to throw beers at as they leave the stadium.
And I thought that was pretty hilarious. But I'm a
trained nose. I'm a big Tom Brady fan. Even though
(01:50):
I'm not a Patriots fan, I am. I am a
big Tom Brady fan. I just wanted to get that
out there. I didn't know you guys were gonna cover it.
I also wanted to I didn't know if because I
was coming out of my car from Ward and I
caught on the tail end. I caught Neil on there saying,
Sean always sounds like he's drunk. I said, well, you know,
(02:15):
I was like, I've thought over that with Don Ellison
Trey before. I just found this is just the way
I sound.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
You Sean exactly a good time with life, but.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
I can't for the life of me, figure out what
did I say that pissed Neil?
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Well?
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Is he a Cowboys fan?
Speaker 1 (02:39):
No, he's not a Cowboys fan. He's a forty nine
Ers fan. So you were actually in good company with
him in terms of picking on the Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
I think it's more of just hey, this is our community,
and it's okay we make fun of each other in
our little community here.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
That's what it is.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
I was like, because I walked to the house and
my son was waiting on me because I was taking
them out for dinner, and I caught the end of
it and he was like, da that guy, Neil just
called you a drunk. I was like, well, I was like, well, bang.
I was like, God's good for Neil. Good for Neil. Thanks, thanks, Neil.
I appreciate you, buddy.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Hey, he's giving you some love on the air. That's right.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
I know, I know, I know, but that's all I
had to say. Guys, appreciate appreciate it, and I'll listen
to the rest of the show.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
You got it. You call any time, Sean.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
We appreciate you jumping in on the conversation, and anybody
else out there that wants to eight six four two
four zero five four eight zero, And again that's just
part of the what I would call brotherly love. I
mean sometimes you trash talk a little bit, you know,
just as part of to make fun. Yes, exactly, that's
that's just a part of it. And again we enjoy
all of the investors out there that are listening investing
(03:51):
your time here. As again the new programming that we
have four hours of local programming each weekday from three
to seven. Then we'll be with you until five pm,
and then we'll hand things off to mister John Ellis
at five and he'll be with you through the rest
of drive time until seven pm. And then on Monday nights,
including tonight overtime John Ellis from seven to nine and
(04:14):
again recapping all of the things going on in the
world of football over the weekend. And I know he's
going to be doing even bigger and better stuff with
that once games actually are going on and breaking down
all of the action that we'll be seen. But we
did have NFL preseason, so there is that.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
Again.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
I don't know how much we can take from the
NFL preseason, but it does give us the opportunity to
start gauging some things trying to get your roster built
all of those things, and obviously we heard a lot
of hype Shador Sanders. Oh yeah, it was the talk
(04:57):
as everybody has such a poll rising opinion and maybe
not polarizing is.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
The right word, but it kind of.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Yeah, but it's and it's it's the question of, oh,
there's no way he's going to make it in the NFL,
and then after a preseason appearance, Oh well look at that, Yeah,
there he is.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
He might be starting over Joe FLACCOH Well, I mean
this is something.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
So don't take this as me going on jumping on
the Shador Sanders hype train.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Yeah, but as a whole, I look at that.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
Quarterback room and I'm like, I don't see a path
where he doesn't get to start, Like you know what
I mean, I don't agree with you.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
I look at it.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
I'm like, I feel like he's a comparable enough quarterback
that he could start.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
Will he?
Speaker 4 (05:40):
I don't know, And I take away from the preseason game.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
I look at it. I was like, there's some good throws,
there's some bad throws.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
It was preseason, but don't we see that from every quarterback?
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Yeah, So I don't know.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
What you learn right now. But everybody's jumping on this
hype train.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
He's made it.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
Yeah, now do where's the guy? He hasn't made it?
And I know that it seems there. I thought that
there was actually more of the narrative. Oh it's it's
still We've got to see more, right, right, But I
mean there was definitely some that hey, we told you
and maybe mel Kuiper is out there. You know that
(06:12):
we have heard a whole lot from mel Kuiper. Yeah, necessarily,
but maybe he is, you know, one of the pundits
out there saying, told you so, told you so. I'm sure,
but it is still way too early. But I think
you make a very valid point. And we've talked about
Cleveland and the dysfunction and the quarterback room that they have,
and my goodness, you know, it just seems like they
(06:34):
keep adding guys to the quarterbacks snoop hunting, that's right.
And I know Dylan Gabriel has been banged up with hamstring,
Kenny Pickett is not healthy, and Joe Flacco he's been
quarterbacking for the past twenty five years, so he's not
going to play in the preseason game.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
But the point is is that when you look at Shador.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
Sanders, I am also hard pressed to say you can't
tell me he's not going to start for the Clevelands
at some point in this season. Yeah, because are we
to think that Joe Flacco is going to stay upright
now for seventeen games, And.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
Even if he does, just from what we've seen the
past couple of years, I don't know that the production
would be there even if he's healthy, Like we've seen
a healthy Joe Flacco there last year with the Colts,
he was good for a handful of games and then
all of a sudden, the production started dropping off and
they were like, oh, well, we need to pivot back
to Anthony Richardson. And even the year before that, you
look at the playoff game there against the Texans there
when he was playing for Cleveland where they pulled him
(07:28):
off the couch. The production was good for about four games,
got him into the playoffs, and then it just took
a nose dive there in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
And he's a veteran guy. He can be a mentor,
he can be the stabilizer, which is great to help
Shador Sanders. But yeah, I agree with you, and this
is not based on just what I saw in this
preseason game. And I didn't watch any of the preseason game.
It just got tied up Friday.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
Yeah, but.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
I did go back and watch the highlight and read
some of the reports and had a better understanding of
how he performed. But again, I look at the roster
and I'm like, he has to be in consideration, and
I know he's listed fourth string technically right now, but
(08:18):
I think that's I don't think that's accurate. I think
he's higher up on that list. And again, yes, I
know he started, so you could say, oh, well, he
is higher. I'm talking come regular season.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
Right well, and I think part of that two fifth
round pick, it's like, okay, you probably can't put him
over Dylan Gabriel right away because obviously you took Gabriel higher.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
Like I guess, how much does that look about your organization? Less?
Even more dysfunction exactly?
Speaker 4 (08:44):
But I will say, uh, oh god, what's his name?
The guy that does the angry runs? I can't think Anyways.
He was on Twitter earlier talking about there's a wide receiver,
an undrafted rookie that was playing in this preseason game
for Shader tossed the pass to him, and I mean
he went out and made this remarkable just one handed catch.
He's like, why are we not talking about this guy? Like,
(09:04):
so hey, if you know you want to talk about
from a roster standpoint, obviously it's preseason.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
He's rookie and all of that.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
But if you can get a little bit of that
production from your wide receivers and get weapons out there,
that looks pretty good for Cleveland. But again, it's pre season.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
Take it what you will.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
It's preseason, and I'm I am anxious to see how
it progresses with the respect and uh, the relativity of
the other quarterbacks being healthy, and it will the will
there be a competition with a hamstring injury? You don't
know With Dylan Gaber, I'm telling you, and Kenny Pickett,
(09:40):
is it shoulder that still is an issue?
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Well, that's what I was going to say.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
I think Kenny's is a hamstring, but oh, Kenny is hamstring. Okay,
But I will say the couple of years that he
was there in Pittsburgh, and I almost want to say
even last year he had some kind of injury as
a backup for the for the Eagles. But I could
be wrong on that, but I feel like every year,
and it was typically towards the end of the season,
Kenny was dealing with something. It was he bruised his
(10:05):
ribs or did something there. Then one of it was
like a shoulder injury, and then I think one may
have been a hammy. This is a hammy. He is
to a certain degree a little bit injury prone. So
to your point, health plays a huge aspect in this.
You got Joe Flacco, who obviously he's on the plus side,
so who knows how how many games he's gonna be
able to play. If Kenny misses any amount of time,
(10:26):
then it obviously falls to Dylan Gabriel. And at that point,
Dylan Gabriel is healthy, then you look at his play
and if his play doesn't justify it, do you put
Shador in?
Speaker 3 (10:35):
That's the point?
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Yes, And I mean, are we to think that we're
so confident in any of those guys right now?
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Right?
Speaker 4 (10:44):
I mean, Kenny's got the ring, so I mean I
guess that he's got a Super Bowl ring.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
Yeah, well, there is that counts for something. I try
to does count for something?
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Yes, And speaking of Kenny Pickett, I mean.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
You think based on his career right so far.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
I mean he's got to be loving life, yeah, to
get the Super Bowl ring, right, and the scrutiny that
he yes, exactly. I mean there's something to be said
because you don't get too many chances to get a
Super Bowl ring, and he got one and he can't
nobody can take that away from him, regardless of how
much he contributed during regular season games or not. Yes,
(11:25):
he was part of that team, you know, So there
is that, and I just wonder how motivated he wants
to be. And again I'm speculating and it sounds so
negative because I also I don't know if Kenny Pickett
is a guy that you can rely on as a
(11:46):
quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
He to me, I feel like he was drafted higher
than he should have been, just based on kind of
the needs of the Pittsburgh Steelers at the time.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
He has some accuracy issues.
Speaker 4 (12:00):
Is my thing with Kenny Pickett. Like he's pretty good,
and there's it's funny, there's this very real narrative. There's
very real thing with Kenny Pickett. There's a fourth quarter
Kenny Pickett that comes out and he's really good. Like
for some reason in that crunch time when it comes
down to the last little bit. And you know the Steelers,
they had to play a little wire quite often. That's
just kind of the way they play. He's a little
(12:21):
bit different. If you could get like fourth quarter Penny
Kenny Pickett for like three four full quarters, dude, he
could be a pretty good quarterback. But right now, I
think he's a really solid, serviceable, serviceable backup. He can
come in when you need him, he can give you,
he can manage the game. He can give you those
throws if you need them. And one more thing about
shador I think one thing we could take away from
(12:42):
a preseason obviously, you know, throwing and all that aside.
I did see some of the stuff that they talked
about when he was going into like combine and everything,
holding onto the ball too long. There were a couple
of moments where I looked at it. I was like,
just throw it away. Just throw the ball away. You
don't have to be Josh Allen plays superhero ball. Just
get rid of it, exactly.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
And I did see there was one time, I know
he's getting blitzed and you've got these guys you barreling
down right, Yeah, And he's running backwards. That's one where
I get the ball the way, Yeah, get it out
of your hands. You're not going to be able to
out high school them like he could or in college
that Oh I'll just you know, run backwards for thirty
(13:22):
yards and then be able to break up field.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
No, you're you're not going to be able to do that. No,
not even close.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
And uh, there's no guarantee that Shador Sanders will be healthy.
Because the point where I'm going with all this also
because even looking at Kenny Pickett, Dylan Gabriel, any of
the other quarterbacks and quarterbacks not only from a backup
standpoint and a starter standpoint, because we do know there's
(13:49):
going to be a lot of quarterbacks that play because
injuries are going to happen. It happens every single year.
I mean, when you're having upwards of fifty quarterbacks playing
in a given season, yeah, I mean, that's insane when
you think about the revolving door of quarterbacks. That's why,
I mean, obviously it's so important that you have a
(14:11):
quality backup quarterback because it's highly likely that you're starting
quarterback it's going to miss some time. Yeah, a game,
A game winter games, whatever it might be. And I
know we heard at the top of the hour, and
I will talk about this a little bit later when
we start breaking down NFL teams, the Rams and Matthew Stafford. Yeah,
(14:34):
and this back issue. I'm just telling you. I spent
twenty years in med device and spinal implants and when
you start having some of these issues that he's having,
they it just can continue to be something so nagging,
and it takes just one little tweet and it sets
(14:55):
you significantly back. So that's going to be something to
really keep an eye on on there with Matthew Stafford.
All right, let's actually real quick. I want to take
a look at some of the latest headlines before we
go to break.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
It's only one game, and that's to take care of
Ben hitting the latest headlines. It's the daily rundown. Okay,
how about this.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
We know sponsorship and money is in college football, so
get ready.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
More logos are coming. Oh yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
South Carolina is announced a five year extension with Blanchard
Machinery that will include on field logos at Williams Bryce Stadium,
and according to reports, it's the fourth SEC school to
add an on field sponsor for the coming season. Missouri,
(15:48):
Tennessee and Arkansas are the other three, and now South Carolina.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
It only makes.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
Sense, right And as long as they're not like obnoxiously
let's just big, they're not looking for revenue opportunities.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
So it's going to happen.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
And don't be surprised if you also also start seeing
patches on jerseys.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
It's coming.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Oh yeah, Now, I think some fans will really get upset.
Though if it crosses the line and you start seeing
logos on the helmet, that might be a different scenario.
All right, So now heading to Death Valley, Clemson Tigers
Memorial Stadium. We know that alcohol sales are going to
be at Memorial Stadium this year, and Clemson has introduced
(16:34):
a designated Driver program where fans can register as a
designated driver and get free non alcoholic drink sodas waters
at kiosk.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
At home football games. So there you go.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
And I know there has definitely been the concern, you know,
in terms of alcohol sales.
Speaker 3 (16:55):
At least there's some options.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
And we also know you've got Uber, you've got Lyft,
You've got.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Yeah, all of these other options. Now be smart about it.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
ESPN and Fox have reached an agreement bringing fans the
opportunity to purchase ESPN's upcoming direct to consumer service app
and Fox one together, so you'll be able to have
programming from both Fox one and ESPN direct to consumer.
(17:27):
And this might be something very interesting when you look
at this bundle talking about all of the access that
you have.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
Yeah, when you get all of the.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
Fox included with Fox News Channel, Fox Business, Fox Sports,
FS one, FS two, the Big ten network. So this
is something a little bit different when you have two entities,
competing entities actually coming together with technology.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
Are we moving to a point where ESPN will be
the sports network?
Speaker 3 (17:58):
I wonder that's happening.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
Yeah, and the NFL guess what they owned ten percent
right now? Yeah, they were smart enough to jump on
that bandwagon pretty quickly. And also speaking of distribution TV sports,
the USC has agreed to a seven year, seven point
seven billion that is with a B exclusive US media
(18:23):
rights deal with Paramount, So all UFC events will stream
on Paramount Plus, with select events also airing on CBS.
So they have eliminated the pay perview model.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
Wow, So there you go, UFC changing things.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
This industry continues to evolve, all right, that's some of
the latest headlines and we come back, we'll take a
look at some of the top storylines heading into this
twenty twenty five college football season. Stay right here much
more The Richmond Weaver Show presented by Ingles Markets right
after this eight six four triple seven ninety five ninety three. Again,
(19:07):
that number is eight six four triple seven ninety five
ninety three. That is the text line. You can join
the conversation and let me know if you have a
weekend's best. We did go over some of our weekend's
best and we talked about Justin Rose winning the Saint
Judes Championship there and Memphis and how he was able
(19:27):
to birdy two of the last three playoff holes and
win over JJ spawned.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
So it was actually for me. I was watching it intently.
Speaker 1 (19:37):
My wife and I were, and we've had Brian Kyte
on talking about sports behavior, performance and all of that,
and he had talked about Tommy Fleetwood and that Tommy
Fleetwood sometimes is viewed as not having success because he's
never won on the PGA Tour, but he's had fourteen
(19:58):
top three finishing is fourteen top three.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
He just has not been able to get over that.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
Hunt an, Yes, it is when you're like, how can
he not break through? And unfortunately he wasn't able to
break through as he squandered the lead down the last
two or three holes of the tournament yesterday. And actually
Brian Kite texted me and said, are you watching Fleetwood
(20:25):
because we had talked about, you know, that scenario. And
so it was just unfortunate to see Tommy Fleetwood because
I thought he was going to be a weekend's best
opportunity there. But we also had Asia Wilson who had
thirty two points twenty rebounds, the first woman in WNBA
history to have thirty plus points and twenty plus rebounds.
(20:47):
And then also the Mariners twenty home runs, twenty stolen
bases in ten games without ever having caught one time,
first time in Major League Baseball history. And then the
Falcon and the Lions coming into a prayer circle after
Maurice Norris was injured and was taken out on a stretcher.
(21:08):
Does seem to be in stable condition now, but let
us know if you have some other weekends best there
eight six' four triple seven ninety, five ninety. Three all,
right as we're also close to college, FOOTBALL i wanted
to take a look at some of the top storylines
heading into this season and how that's going to look
(21:33):
based on some of the things, that again THAT i
think will have an impact throughout the, season not only
on the, rankings not only obviously, teams but coaches who
might be, fired who might be on the hot, seat
all of those type of. Things so WHEN i look
(21:53):
at some of the, STORYLINES i think you have to
start just with the week, ones just the opportunity of
starting the season with teams that are in contention for
a national. Championship And i'm talking when you're starting the
season in terms of you've GOT lsu And clemson, Playing
(22:16):
you've Got texas And Ohio state, Playing you've Got Florida
state And alabama. Playing you've Got miami And Notre dame.
Playing you've Got South carolina And Virginia tech. Playing then
you also on That, monday you've Got North carolina AND.
Tcu Bill, BELICHICK i mean you talk about an opening,
Weekend oh, yeah in college, FOOTBALL i mean that is absolutely.
(22:40):
Insane so you're going to be glued to THE tv
that weekend AND i know that's week, one that's technically
not the beginning of college football With week. Zero but,
again in all, REALITY i, know you've got a rank
matchup With Iowa state And Kansas State august, twin but
(23:01):
it pales in.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
Comparison it's happening that next.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
Weekend that's the true out, start that is the true
start of college. Football and why not started off with
a bang like that and have that opportunity of seeing
some of those teams that, again these are the teams
that we believe could actually contend for a national. Championship all,
right another, One and this doesn't have to this is
(23:25):
not necessarily on the football, field BUT i do think
we're at that point we're trying to understand the future
of the college football. Playoff oh, yeah and this is
year two of twelve team. Playoff but the format in
the future is still somewhat. Murky we know The big
ten in THE sec they want more guaranteed.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
Bids while there are other.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
Conferences The big, twelve THE acc and then include the
independent There Notre, dame they want more at large.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
Spots.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
Yeah and last, year just think about, this the top
four seeds went one and. Done they lost the top
four seeds that had a. Buy they actually ended up,
losing AND i think partly because there was a month long,
layoff and now this year the top four are the
(24:14):
highest ranked, teams not just conference. Champs SO i think
you're going to see some other type of fireworks that
will happen in this twelve team college football playoff this.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
Year but the.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
Question is are we going to see a sixteen team
playoff in twenty twenty six or will a twelve team
format stick or is it going to be. FOURTEEN i
think it's going to go to, Sixteen SO i think
there is something. There what about this this storyline in college?
Football how about this quarterback? Class you talking About Arch
(24:50):
manning who hasn't really played a whole lot of college.
Football he's in line to be day one starter for
the number one team in the country Preseason Texas. Longhorns
then you've got kde Club, Nick you've got LSU's Garrett,
Nussmeyer you've Got Penn State's Drew.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
Aller they're all in the.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
Mix and knowing that you're Seeing clemson AND lsu compete
there in the first game of the Season week, ONE
i should, Say and then you also you've got Arch
manning And texas taken On Ohio, state and that's just
a small sample size of all of the other quarterbacks
that are out. THERE i, mean you've Got John mattier At,
(25:34):
Oklahoma you've Got Lenora sellers At South. Carolina so this
is a race right now for the quarterback class of
twenty twenty six for THE Nfl draft and also obviously
a trip To New york with A heisman on the.
Line So i'm fascinated to see how these quarterbacks are
(25:54):
going to, play and especially some of these guys that are,
transferring even to a team that you were talking, About Florida.
State thomas castillonis From Boston college going down To Florida,
state and he's already talking some. Trash oh, yeah he's
already talking, That hey, Yeah Florida state's going to be.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
Ready and then what About Diego pavia At.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
Vanderbilt you're talking about a guy who's really setting the
social media.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Post on fire with all of his.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
Banters SO i think the quarterback situation is going to
be very interesting in terms of how that plays, out
and especially as we get into the college football playoff
and who's going to be able to quote unquote elevate their, team,
Right AND i think it's one of those that we
talk about every, year but this year especially because it
(26:44):
feels like so many are supposedly going to go so
high in the draft next, YEAR i feel like there's
a lot riding on the season for a number of.
QUARTERBACKS a number of. Quarterbacks, yeah there is no. Question all,
right how about this, though keeping it close to, Home Dabo,
sweeney how will this play out If clemson is able
(27:06):
to make a run and potentially get to The National
championship game and then can you imagine if they win
the national championship? Game and all of the talk About
Dabo sweeney and his stance right on the transfer portal
(27:27):
not utilizing, it he was, Stubborn he was the old
coach that couldn't. Evolve but could there be something that
Maybe Dabo sweeney knows his, philosophy sticks to his, philosophy
and maybe it does play out that you can win
(27:49):
and not have a heavy transfer portal and NOT i
guess look at options of moving away from what you believe,
in and that's the players and retaining. Players because as
much as we talk about the transfer portal And, clemson you,
know bringing in guys and now we Know Dabo sweeney
(28:10):
brought in the three transfer portal guys that could potentially
help The Clemson tigers this. Year BUT i think there's
more to it than bringing guys. In and that's WHY
i EVEN i look at like A Shane biemer At South. Carolina,
yes we know they've been able to bring a lot
of guys, in.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
But guess what they're also able to.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
Do keep guys on their, team keep guys within the,
facility keep guys on that field in that. Uniform that
is even more power paramount than going out and getting
some guy out of the, portal, right because you know
what you've got with those guys that are. There you're
(28:52):
developing those, guys and that's just as It's in, Fact
i'm definitely gonna say it is more important to be
able to retain that type of top talent there then
actually go out and recruit.
Speaker 4 (29:04):
ONE i think tying into, that it's just as important,
there if not even more, important to understand your, identity
to understand the, philosophy and to hold to. That whether
that's something like A Dion, sanders which, is, hey let's
go heavy into the portal and let's let's do this,
thing or if it's something more akin to A Dabo
sweeney where it's, Hey i'm not Saying i'm not gonna
(29:26):
use the transfer, portal BUT i believe in my, guys
AND i believe in the guys that are. Here and
To dabo's, credit he is using the transfer, portal but
he's using it more like a tool the way that
you might see more of what you have in like
THE nfl where the free agency where it's, Like, okay
we're gonna build through the, Draft, Dabbo we're gonna build
through recruiting these. Guys but then if there are certain
(29:47):
places WHERE i think that we could benefit from bringing
in an outside, player then SURE.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
I will do.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
That but it's not about just using the transfer portal
for the transfer portal's. Sake that's not gonna build your.
Team that's not gonna win you. Championships it's philosophy and
the identity of the.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Team you have to stick with what you believe in
and you can, evolve but your foundation has to stay the. Same,
Right and he's evolved and he has, evolved but the
foundation is still the. Same the principals are still the.
Same so it will be interesting to see could we
be saying That odebo knew what he was doing all,
(30:21):
along good and he stuck to his.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Guns all.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Right speaking of another head, Coach Ryan, Day Ohio, state
and not to say one hit wonder Because i'm not saying,
that because we Know Ohio state has been.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
So good each and every.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
Year but they were finally able to win a national
championship last, year and that gets some pressure off Of Ryan.
Day but he also lost To, michigan, Right, yeah and
he's one and four Against. Michigan at some, point you're
going to have to have a little bit more success
against your. Rival at least that's what the national narrative,
(30:57):
is or even more, SO i should say that that's
what the regional narrative is if you're involved in that
rivalry as A michigan fan or A House state. Fan
but they're coming off of a national. Championship they seem
to be, loaded but they've got new. Coordinators but they
also have a wide Receiver Jeremiah, smith who is quote
unquote unstoppable at. Times, YEAH i mean he is absolutely.
(31:22):
Ridiculous but Ken Ohio, state can they? Repeat can they
have another magical? Season i'm not saying they have to
go win a national championship because we know it's very
difficult to, do but they have to be in. Contention
and then also can he follow up the national championship
last year with another trip to The College Football playoff
(31:44):
in addition to Beating big Bad.
Speaker 4 (31:48):
Blue, yeah that's the hard, thing like when you talk
about college, football because you look at it And i'm, like, okay,
yeah it's it's not only just hard enough to go
and win it back to, back, well win a, championship
but to win it back to, back but also the
turnover because he lost his, Quarterback Will. Howard he's now
with The, steelers so he don't have. It he's starting
with a brand new. Quarterback if you can go and
you can at least make a decent work get in the,
(32:08):
playoffs you don't even really have to make like a huge.
Rum but if you can get back in there with
a brand new, QUARTERBACK i mean that right there is
what sets apart those great teams that we talk about
each year, in year in and year, out and the
kind of teams where we do talk about like almost
like a one hit, wonder like oh, okay, well they
just things lined up the right way and they had
the right quarterback or right, receivers, Whatever AND.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
I just, wonder, yeah, again what The Ohio state fans
how they're going to View Ryan day if he doesn't
Beat michigan this?
Speaker 3 (32:38):
Year but what if he wins a national? Championship?
Speaker 4 (32:40):
Though what if you do back to back national championships
but he never Beats.
Speaker 3 (32:43):
Michigan. Yeh, see as.
Speaker 1 (32:48):
From my, perspective you take the national championship all the
whole day. Long, yeah you don't even think about that
you lose to your. RIVAL i know college is different
than THE nfl because as A Dallas cowboys, FAN i
don't care if we lose to The eagles as long
as we win A Super. Bowl. RIGHT i don't care
if we lose to The commanders or The redskins back
(33:10):
in the, day as long as we win A Super.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
Bowl.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
Right but it does seem to be a little bit
different in. College oh, yeah the rivalry does mean. Something
so this will be a test For Ryan day, though
because you, also can you imagine.
Speaker 3 (33:28):
If there's a, team and we've talked.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
About it that we know statistics tell us there's a
team that's in the top ten that doesn't finish the
season in the top twenty.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
Five can you? Imagine but what if they Beat? MICHIGAN i, know.
Speaker 1 (33:47):
Does he salvage the season by Beating michigan but he
finishes the season? Unranked he probably, would but that's crazy to.
THINK i can't see a scenario plane Where Ohio state
has that type of drop. Off but we have seen
crazier things in college, football all. Right you do have
to take a look though at Arch. Manning oh in
(34:08):
the Arch manning. ERA i, mean that's a. Storyline we
know it is because of his last, name, right and
stepping in as a full time, starter and he's already
A heisman. Favorite and you, know, again what are the
expectations for Arch manning coming into this? Season is it
(34:29):
just getting your team to the college football playoff in
a chance for a national, championship? Right or does he
have to set the world on fire and be a
True heisman. Contender that's a lot of pressure for Arch
manning is coming into this. Season, unfortunately with his last.
NAME i think it is the. Latter, YEAH i think
he has to come in to set the world. Up
(34:50):
those ARE i mean EVERYTHING i. HEAR i think it
was was It finebam that was already talking about him
going to the going to be A heisman and, everything
the best player Since tim T he said. Exactly and
we've seen a small sample size right. NOW i do
believe he has a high. CEILING i just don't know
what that ceiling, is Right and we're going to see
pretty quickly out of the.
Speaker 3 (35:11):
Gates texas And Ohio.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
State and regardless if you believe in the polls or,
not you, Know Ohio state is a good. Team you
Know texas is a good. Team so that is a
heavyweight matchup right, there staying in The Big. Ten and
it's crazy that we're talking so much about The Big
Ten Penn. State we alluded it to. Earlier All, Right,
(35:34):
Okay James, franklin can you get over the.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
Hump it's.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
Time you've got to be able to it's now or
never type of, push this breakthrough type of season you have.
To you were able to have success last, year maybe
not winning some of the games that you wanted to
in the regular, season but you made the push there
in The College Football, playoff getting to the semifinals and
you had a chance to Beat Notre dame.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
There you had that.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
Chance so now you've got a stacked roster coming. Back
you've Got Jim knowles defensive coordinator Replacing Tom, Allen so
you're not going to have a drop off from a
defensive coordinator. Standpoint, now maybe from a roster standpoint maybe
a little, bit BUT i promise you this is a
now or never type of season For Penn. State and then,
(36:21):
lastly we've talked about it.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
Before, Sorry Bill.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
Belichick he's my storyline of the year Because, Doctor i'm
just so curious to see how he's going to be
on A saturday and having to deal with the antics
that are going on at a college football, game and
how he will, respond especially if the team is not
(36:46):
performing as well in postgame, interviews all of those type of.
Things it's going to be very interesting to see how
that plays. Out let us know your thoughts eight six
four two four zero five four eight, zero and let's

(39:19):
it's been a long time SINCE i watched. It AND
i prefaced this by saying even at the time Of Happy,
GILMORE i GUESS i enjoyed, it BUT i wasn't a
huge fan of. IT i, mean, yes it was entertaining
and all, that BUT i do feel that the sequel
(39:40):
was just a recycle of the first.
Speaker 4 (39:42):
One it kind of was a lot of the same.
TROPES i will, say Like Happy gilmore for, me BECAUSE
i was when did that come? Out Ninety it was ninety,
SIX i think six came, out so LIKE i grew
up AS i got, older Watched Happy gilmore and like
it was one of my favorite movies growing up WHEN
i was a, Kid SO i Really Happy. GILMOUR i
agree with. You there were a lot of things that
(40:03):
were recycled and redone and it felt like the same
storyline just kind OF i don't.
Speaker 1 (40:08):
Know, yeah it felt like there were some. Times, YES
i mean it.
Speaker 3 (40:12):
Was it was.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
Entertaining BECAUSE i guess from the cameo, perspective.
Speaker 4 (40:16):
They were heavy on the, cameo heavy on the.
Speaker 1 (40:18):
Cameos they did a good job of bringing in a
bunch of big, stars not only from THE Pga, tour
live golf also but you Know Travis kelce in. Them
you know those type of people coming in and AND
i Know Adam sandler had his daughters in, it and
(40:38):
his wife you, know was in, it so you had wife.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
WAS i had to look up BECAUSE i was, like
who are these? Girls AND i was, like, oh these
are his, daughter, yeah WHICH i thought was really.
Speaker 1 (40:46):
Cool, yeah it's and if You're Adam sandler, fan Diehard
Adam sandler, FAN i, mean this is Pure Adam. SANDLER i,
mean so you have to know that going into it,
also and so just keep that in. Perspective BUT i
was surprised that it was two hours, long though it
didn't feel like it did.
Speaker 3 (41:03):
ME i was, thinking, SEE i felt it dragged a little.
Speaker 1 (41:07):
Bit, YEAH i did feel that it did, drag but
they did DO i think a decent job of trying
to almost talk about THE Pga tour and live goal
almost live.
Speaker 3 (41:19):
Golf you all, right.

Speaker 1 (42:18):
Day nineteen twenty, Nine Babe ruth would be the First
Major League baseball player to hit five hundred home runs
and he was a mammoth of a. Man And i'm
telling you back, then five hundred home runs that was absolutely.
Speaker 3 (42:34):
Insane nineteen eighty.
Speaker 1 (42:35):
Four Carl lewis would duplicate What Jesse owens did in
nineteen thirty, six winning Four olympic gold. Medals, yes so
fantastic and, also OH i skipped this. One nineteen seventy,
THREE dj Cool hirk would have a back to school
party and he would be the first one to what
(42:57):
they would credit as the birth of hip hop as
he was THE dj and would spin the records there
doing the little shuffling of the. Records, yes so there
you go back in nineteen seventy three and in two, thousand,
no excuse, me nineteen ninety. One let me get all
these dates right, here as we're running out of. Time John,
daily the last alternate to make the, field wins the
(43:20):
