Exploring the latest headlines and in depth conversations. It's the
Richmond Weavers Show on one o four nine Fox Sports
up State presented by Ingles Low Prices, love the savings
Now for richest take on sports. Here's Richmond Weaver.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Ready to roll right here on one oh four nine
Fox Sports Upstate. This is the Wednesday edition of the
Richmond Weavers Show, presented by Ingles Markets. Full force here
in studio, mister Trey Falco behind the board and behind
the mic as always as we are looking out the
eleventh floor of the Canal Insurance Building and a beautiful
(00:39):
day here in the Upstate. Love it and I do
love the picturesque type of sky. There's one thing when
it's just pure blue skies and no clouds or whatever.
I mean, that's a that's a nice day, don't get
me wrong. But there's something about unique when you have
the clouds in the background.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Also, Chamber of Commerce, Reid, Yeah, here we go. Yes,
and we've already had that discussion. What defines Chamber of
comes whether and who came up with that. Still need
to know the origin of that, but yes, I understand it.
It's about how you're going to be able to promote
your town right by the weather. The chamber of commerce
is that marketing arm of your town. And so yes,
(01:20):
this is a chamber of commerce day.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
I do get that.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
But it's just funny how that that is ingrained in
our culture, right we say those type of things. And
again we could go on and on about how things
get originated here in the world and how sometimes we
don't even know how it happens. We just go along
with it because that tradition, that's history. But one thing
that we do know is that things do change. But
(01:45):
for us here, you know, what's always constant is that
you have the opportunity of joining the conversation eight six
y four two four zero five four eight zero. Again
that numbers to the Engles hotline eight six four two
four zero five four eight zero. We always appreciate all
the listeners investors is what we call you, because you're
investing your time each and every day and even just
(02:07):
for a little bit of time. We know you might
not be able to listen all the time, but anytime
you can, we do appreciate it. And the beautiful thing is,
now make sure you remember we just announced it yesterday,
is that we do have an extended version now of
The Richmond Weaver Show.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
It's two hours.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
The first hour is only available in the podcast option
and that's through the iHeartRadio app or wherever you get
your podcasts. Just search for the Richmond Weaver Show. And
mister Falco, he is the producer extraordinary, so he makes
sure to upload the first hour right after we're done,
so it'll be there. And then hour two here the
(02:45):
live portion right here on one O four nine.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Fox Sports Upstate.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
It will be there right after we're done, so you'll
have both hours there. You can listen to a little
bit more analysis, a little bit more breaking down of
some topics that.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
We feel that are worthy to be talked about.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
And so if you do listen and you enjoy it,
and maybe if you want to call in to talk
about something that we talked in the podcast hour, please
do that as well.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
We just want you to be part of the conversation. Again.
That numbers eight six four two four zero five four
eight zero. All right.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
So one of the things though that Trey in terms
of just looking at how things are evolving and how
things have been in place, and we've talked about it,
especially now that we're right here in the season of hope.
July fourteenth, We've got the SEC Media Days that we'll
be starting that will be kicking off down in Atlanta.
South Carolina is going to be represented there on the
first day, so I'm looking forward to being down there,
(03:41):
and as of right now, it does look like we
are going to be able to broadcast from Atlanta, so
I'm looking forward to that, and then right after that
we have the other conferences and then the ACC a
little bit later. As terms of getting the opportunity to
start hearing from these head coaches heading into August, and
what the hope might be for a lot of these
(04:03):
teams and teams that have the opportunity of winning a
national championship, because ultimately that's what it's all about. Can
you make the college football Playoff? And we do know
how important that is. But one of the things that
I also am looking at right now, and especially in
the world of college athletics. We talked about it yesterday.
Darren Angel from the Weisch law firm was here to
(04:27):
talk a little bit more about the legal side of
how college athletics is obviously changing as of July first,
with now revenue sharing and universities being able to pay
directly to student athletes and how that's going to change.
And there's still going to be more changes that are
going to be coming. So make sure you understand that
(04:48):
this is not the end all be all. This is
just not how it's going to be. It's going to continue.
And that's why I think there's something right now and
this is in reference to just college football overall and
how college football might be at a crossroads right now,
and part of that is a challenge of keeping fans
(05:12):
aligned and engaged and encouraged by the direction where college
football is going, because right now there's all types of
chaos that's happening. You've got the nil, you've got the
transfer portal, you've got all this house settlement, you've got
all of these things happening where it looks like college
football is becoming pro sports kind of you. Yeah, we
(05:36):
do know that it resembles almost identical to how things
are in pro sports now. Obviously not identical, but there's
a lot of similarities. And I think right now what
we're here and at least early on, and maybe it's
died down a little bit, but that fans are not happy.
They don't want college football to look like then. They
(06:00):
want it to be different. They want the pageantry, they
want the student athletes the way student athletes were playing
years before we got to this point. And I do
understand that. And then you also, what about all the realignment.
You don't even know who's who in which conference anymore,
right exactly? I mean, And it's crazy when you're having
(06:21):
like a, UCLA and Rutgers playing football and they're traveling
across the country. Yeah, and obviously traveling across the country
is much easier than it was forty years ago. A
little bit that made no sense to have any type
of conference alignment based on things outside of geography. But
now it doesn't matter, right, So it's all about can
(06:42):
you get certain teams within your conference?
Speaker 3 (06:44):
And that's obviously what the SEC.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
That's why they made the move when they did to
get Texas and Oklahoma, and then the Big Ten followed
suit getting the teams out of the PAC twelve, which
ultimately led to the dissolution of the PAC twelve. Now
it's made a rebound. They've added their teams and so
they're somewhat back. They're not twelve, they're eight teams, but
so there's also this realignment stuff that's going on that
(07:08):
I think is causing some fans to say, Okay, wait
a second, is tradition going to be changing, you know,
is the rivalry is going to be changing, And I
don't know fans are happy with.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
That, understandably so, especially in something with college football, where
I feel like tradition is so huge. Things are done
a certain way, They've always been done a certain way.
Certain teams, certain schools have the way like their traditions
as far as what they do coming out on the
field and just everything the pomp and circumstance.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
Yes, my question is can we have both.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
Can you make it more of a more of a
professional model as far as what the scheduling looks like,
as far as maybe what the conferences look like, but
can you also still keep the patrick Well, there's nothing
in the rule book. We're writing the rule book. There's
nothing in there that says that you have to do
away with all the pageanty, pageantry and the pomp and circumstance.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
Right just because we do the games.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
A little bit different, or we schedule it a little
bit differently, or maybe you're not in the same conference. Hell,
you could even have because again, we're writing the rule book.
Why can't you just keep the same rivals. It doesn't
matter what the conference is. You could make it work.
It's it's our product, it's it's it's ours.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
It is ours as we say that, and it sounds easy.
And that's where it gets frustrating to fans is that
there's a lot of things that seem I guess logical, right, right, rational,
It seems that it would be relatively easy to do,
But yeah, you also have to factor and there's a
lot of this legal portion that's taking precedent right now.
(08:46):
And yes, I'm using a legal term right there, taking precedent.
But I think that's something that's going on right now
that's causing fans.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
To be frustrated.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
And you know, I there's the fan engagement, and I
think there's some challenge that are going on based on
the things that we're talking about. And I think some
of the ways that you can help minimize that and
get the fans back re engaged is start understanding what
the fans truly want right and start there. Yes, and
I and we know that right now the ratings are
pretty strong for college football, not the NFL.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
We get that. We know there's a gap.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
We totally understand that, but some of the games are longer,
and you know, you have these commercials and that can
test you know, fans, patients, and especially when you're there
live and you see the guy out on the field
and he's old in the digital clock and it's counting
down the commercial time and you're like, can we just
come on, let's go. We want to keep these games going.
(09:42):
And I think also fans they want meaningful games at
the end of the day, that's what they want. And
so I know we're all in this position of jockeying
for who's going to be in the SEC, who's going
to be in the Big ten, all of that, and
at the end of the day, why do we have
(10:04):
to still view it that it's such a separate conference
standpoint and that one conference has to be better than
the other or whatever. And that's why I think we
need to start looking much bigger picture. How can we
get to the point where we can have a true
college football entity where there's forty to fifty teams and
(10:27):
those are the teams that compete for a college football
playoff entrance and be able to compete for a National Championship,
whether that's twelve teams that make it, whether it's sixteen,
and it seems like sixteen would work pretty well.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
I think.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
So, say if you had forty to fifty teams, yeah,
I mean are you close to then you know, getting
half of your teams in, And I think that's relevant
in terms of how we see it. With the NFL,
thirty two teams, the fourteen teams get in right. So
with the NBA, I know there's a lot of people
that get frustrated with the NBA that basically half their
teams are in the playoffs. But there's something about the
(11:05):
playoffs that do mean something and that's where you get
some of these meaningful games. But why can't we do
that in the regular season? But that's where we're caught
up with still now, these FBS teams playing FCS teams,
and I just wonder how much longer that can continue,
especially with revenue sharing that's going on right now as
(11:25):
of July first, and so teams are going to have
to do everything they can to make money right exactly,
not go spend money by giving a team a guarantee
to come play them, No, go play a meaningful game
and you might have a better opportunity of say you win, right,
and what does that do for your team? Do you
have that opportunity of then does the selection committee, if
(11:48):
we still have the selection committee down the road, do
they view your team differently? And so I think there's
something that college football needs to figure this out. And
right now they're this is a moment in history, in
my opinion, that we're going to have to have some
changes that happened. Yeah, and we're going to see the
(12:10):
positive side of it. And also, yes, we know there's
unintended consequences. But I think at the end of the day,
we need to be moving forward to much more of
I'm sorry to say it. I know some people don't
want to hear it, but it needs to be a
model that's more similar to the NFL because it works, right,
it just does.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
And I think the fans ultimately they want that.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
They want simplicity, they want the understanding, they want to
have things settled out on the field rather than, oh, hey,
this team gets in because of you know, their strength
of schedule.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
Yeah, and John Smith decided yes exactly.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
I don't think that fans really want that, but we
want you to join the conversation eight six y four
two four zero five four eight zero And let's head
out to the Ingles hotline right now, the Richmond Weavers show.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
Who's this.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Tell?
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Then? How are you? My friend? Good afternoon, I'm doing good.
Speaker 5 (13:01):
First of all, I'm kicking. I'm saying it's the Christburgh
still is gonna make another move because it seemed like
they in the NBA making trades and.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
They are, yes, And I don't know how much value
they got with Jalen Ramsey.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
We'll see and mister Trey Falco, as you know, Devin.
Speaker 5 (13:16):
No, I think the b moves John Smith though, man,
I think that's a big move. Well, Aaron Rock got
your bit tougueing with Jonnald Slilt. But you're talking about
this whole n I L thing, man, lsu done went
off and did it? Did you hear about they're gonna
put advertising on the uniform? Those are classic uniform. You
don't want see no advertising on the uniform. But that's
how glad to play the player.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
That's right, Delvin. That's a big thing. And I was
gonna talk about that in the Daily Rundown.
Speaker 5 (13:40):
And that's what you want to see that it's a
classic uniform.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Many and how many times have we actually heard over
the course of the years that even when the NBA
was looking at that and the fan bases were so
disgusted with that that no, we don't want to get
that that point where we have these uniforms looking like
NASCAR are uh you know, right, like, yeah, we don't
(14:03):
want that.
Speaker 6 (14:04):
But at the end of the day, yeah, looking after
game right now, because I want to say I want
to want to right, I want to pay I I
want to pay Apple and all this say that.
Speaker 5 (14:15):
After the game, that's right.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
I wouldn't have been able to have this triple double
if it wasn't for pay Calm, you know services, right,
that's right, Devin. We appreciate the call of my friend.
Thank you, sir, and it's so right. And that's why
going back to what we were talking about, this revenue
sharing changes it significantly because they've got to be able
(14:38):
to figure out a way to continue to make money.
So you think that there's not going to be marketing
and sponsorships that are sold, Yes, you're going to. It's
just part of it that you're going to see sponsorships
on uniforms and naming rights all of.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
Those type of things. You're going to see logos on.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
College football fe not that you don't see some of
that already, but you're going to see more of that.
You're going to see it on college basketball arena floors.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
It's coming.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
That's just the reality of it, because there's it's be
And let me make sure I get my words correct here,
and again I've talked about it how many times my
economy words is horrible. Yeah, so be patient with me here, listeners.
I do appreciate that because what I'm trying to assimilate
here is that when you look at college athletics and
(15:31):
how it is changing to get to where it has
to be, there's going to be payments that are going
to be made based on the House settlement.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
So we do know that.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
And so to compete, you're going to have to find
revenue streams. You have to be able to do that.
So what's an easy way to do it? We see
it in professional sports. It's naming rights, it's sponsorship, it's
all of those things that's that's going to happen.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
Now.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
It doesn't have to be NASCAR because now when I
watch NBA games, I mean I see the logo on
their particular companies. But it's not like it's not it's
not obnoxious, It just it just blends in. You get
used to it, and for me, it doesn't hurt the
game at all exactly. But I understand what Devin's talking about.
(16:20):
There's something about uniforms, especially some of these clean, yes exactly,
clean look uniforms. And so it's it's one thing to
put a logo, say on the jersey, because we see
that in once teams make it to the college football playoffs,
oh yeah, to put the patch, yeah, to put the
(16:41):
patch on there. Okay, So that's one thing that doesn't
really take away from it. I think the big issue,
and I think it would be even bigger for fans.
You start putting decals on the helmets, you might have
a revolution happen because that's the one piece of real
estate you do not touch. Can you imagine if Alabama
(17:05):
or Penn State had a commercial logo on their helmet?
Speaker 3 (17:09):
Well, Oklahoma, That's what I was going to bring up,
wasn't it.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
Oklahoma State last year tried to put QR code on
the back of your helmet exactly to help like fund
the nil.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
Yes, yeah, exactly, and fans were not happy. Don't touch
the helmets. Do not touch the helmets. That is definitely
part of it.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
All right, we'll.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Continue this Wednesday edition of the Richmond Weavers Show presented
by Ingles Markets, because we do also remember coming up
a little trivia question for a twenty five dollars gift
card from Autobil car Wash. You can join by texting
in eight six four triple seven ninety five ninety three. Again,
that text line is eight six four triple seven ninety
(17:46):
five ninety three. I'll give you the queue, I'll give
you the question, and that's when you'll be able to
text in to see if you can win a twenty
five dollars gift card from Autobil car Wash. But coming up,
I want to take it at a look at NFL
quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield and some of the greats
and how they compare with each other much more right
(18:08):
after this live from the Ingles Studios downtown Greenville, right
here on North Main Street.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
This is the Wednesday edition.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
Of the Richmond Weaver Show presented by Ingles Markets, and
as we are gearing up for July fourth, this is
a little bit of a shortened week. We were off
on Monday, attending the National Sports Media Association banquet there
in Greensboro, North Carolina, an absolutely fantastic event. Got to
meet Mike Tarrico, I got to see Iron Eagle, who
(18:50):
we've had on the show several times, and also got
to see some local celebrities. I would have to say
Mark Whiteman of Wyff as he was named and earned
the award for South Carolina Sportscaster of the Year.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
It's also absolutely fantastic.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
And then also Chapel Fowler, who we've had on the
show and he's actually coming in studio next week, so
I'm looking forward to that from Posting Courier, and he's
he was named the South Carolina Sports Writer of the Year. Yeah,
so well done upstate representing quit. Absolutely fantastic. But Mike Trico,
who's absolutely fantastic. He was voted, or I should say
(19:32):
he was named inducted into the National Sports Media Association
Hall of Fame. Well deserved and absolutely fantastic. But it's
also just shows you how life is crazy at times and.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
How life is full circle.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
Also because Iron Eagle he earned the National Sports Caster
of the Year award and lo and behold, they both
went to Syracuse, so that's part of the connection there.
But Iron Eagle was Mike Turrico's intern. Oh wow, that's
(20:09):
insane that then you have both of those guys represented
there at the National Sports Media Association the banquet, and
I think it's fantastic and I'm looking forward. I and said,
he's going to come back on the show, So I'm
going to have him on to talk about the event
and how the first time that I met him back
in twenty seventeen when I started my podcast, Rich Take
(20:30):
on Sports and he agreed to be on it and
had a great conversation with him. But at that time,
he was the New York sportscaster of the Year and
now he's the two time national Sportscaster of the Year.
And I think that's amazing just to see the evolution, yeah,
and the transformation and I shouldn't say transformation because he's
(20:50):
always been so good, but just the recognition. Yes, and
obviously we know Iron Eagle now is not only the
voice that you hear on NFL CBS or CBS on
NFL or the NFL on CBS when you get that right. Yeah,
and also he's the voice of the Final four now
from Marsh Madness took over for Jim Nance and he
(21:11):
does a whole lot of other stuff. He's so good
NBA on TNT and TBS and just absolutely fantastic. So
congratulations to all of those winners. And then also remember
programming note will be off on Friday to celebrate July fourth.
So yes, go America, and I do have some thoughts tomorrow.
(21:32):
I'm going to talk about America. Yeah, I'm not gonna
do it will be a little bit, but I'm not
gonna try to bore anybody with history. It's more of
just kind of recognizing, like do we understand what happened? Yeah, yeah,
a country was born. I mean, just think about it.
We can hardly get this college football playoff.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
Thing, right you guys the whole country.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
Yes, just build a country, you know, and create a
country and decide. Oh yeah, the hell with Great Britain.
We want our freedom. We want our freedom exactly.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
So it's in our DNA, I promise you it is
in our DNA, all right. Something that is in our
DNA also is looking at quarterbacks. Oh yeah, and how
much we value quarterbacks. And I saw this come across
a few days ago with social media, and this is
what's so great about social media. Sometimes you see some
content that you might not have seen. And the only
(22:30):
social media I'm on is x and it's more so
just from a perspective of hey, breaking news, just like
we've heard at the top of the hour, and we'll
talk about it next segment. Mike Brown is going to
be named the new head coach of the New York
Knicks and somewhat of a retread, but that's the NBA,
and so you have that opportunity of seeing some of
(22:51):
that type of content. And every once in a while
you'll see just some content that comes across that's entertaining whatever,
and you know, based on algorithm, based on what you've
looked at before.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
So I know, I was diving into quarterback.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Stats as I'm prepping for coming up here in the
NFL season and even in college and looking at some
of the best quarterbacks coming into the season for both
college and NFL, and I came across this interesting post
and it was talking about Baker Mayfield, okay, and talking
(23:26):
about him being underrated me and I could agree with
that to a certain degree, that's right. Yeah, And so
what they did was they wanted to put it relative
to a quarterback that we know very well, and there's
a lot of people think very highly of him, and
then also there's a lot of people that do not
(23:48):
like him because he keeps winning and as Patrick Mahomes.
So here's a comparison, Baker Mayfield versus Patrick Mahomes over
the last two seasons. Okay, Patrick Mahomes over the last
two seasons eight thousand, one hundred and eleven passing yards
Baker Mayfield eight thousand, five hundred and forty four Okay.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Passing touchdowns over the past two seasons Patrick Mahomes fifty three,
Baker Mayfield sixty nine Okay. Completion percentage over the past
two seasons Patrick Mahomes sixty seven point three percent, Baker
Mayfield sixty seven point nine percent Okay, okay. And then
(24:35):
over the past two seasons interceptions Patrick Mahomes twenty five
and Baker Mayfield twenty six. So you're looking at it
and trying to make the correlation. Well, wait a second,
maybe Baker Mayfield is not as bad as we think.
And I think you're right. Hey, I do think that
(24:57):
we overlook Baker Mayfield. I think so because of the
past history with Baker Mayfield and being in Cleveland being
the number one overall. Being in Cleveland does exactly. I mean,
that's a dysfunctional organization. You can't get out of the way.
And Baker Mayfield, he couldn't be that guy that was
able to rescue the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
I don't know if there is a guy. I don't
know if there is.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
At one point I thought Deshaun Watson would be that
guy until everything unraveled with the off the field issues
and then now obviously the Achilles injury. I don't know
if we'll ever see Deshaun Watson play in the NFL
ever again, we might have that chapter might have closed.
But the point is that I do think that Baker
(25:38):
Mayfield is somewhat overlooked. Now at the end of the day,
I'm not going to say that there's a comparison to
be made based on these stats, that hey, Baker Mayfield
is up there with Patrick Mahomes, just based on the
last two seasons of stats, because there's also this scenario
(26:00):
that plays out. How about when you're looking at wins
and losses, you hello, right, you do have to factor
that into it and that's not what was factored into that.
So for Baker Mayfield's career seven years in the NFL,
he's fifty and fifty three. That's his record, all right, Okay, Now,
(26:21):
remember he spent a lot of time in Cleveland, right,
you know, and unfortunately he did spend some time in Carolina.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
I know John Ellis doesn't want to hear that.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
And also with the Rams, you know, so there is,
you know, this scenario that's playing out when you're looking
at Baker Mayfield and the stability that he's had over
the past two seasons.
Speaker 3 (26:43):
He was nine and eight and.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
Twenty twenty three with the Bucks and then ten and
seven last year with the Bucks and we're talking you know,
regular season. But so I wanted to dive a little
bit more into that because again, you can't just go
off with some of those stats and say that's right.
Let's look at Patrick Mahomes and this is compared to
some of the best quarterbacks that we've seen their first
(27:06):
seven years as a starter. So this is Patrick Mahomes
versus Tom Brady, versus Peyton Manning versus Aaron Rodgers. And
that's where we're going to get a better idea of
where Baker mayfields ta good place. This might stack up
to Tom Brady his record eighty six and twenty four
over his first seven years. Peyton Manning was sixty six
and forty six oh over his first seven years, Aaron
(27:29):
Rodgers seventy and thirty three over his first seven years
as a starter. Patrick Mahomes eighty eight and twenty three
as a starter in his first seven seasons.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
I knew it was going to be high, but hearing
it totally different, that's insane, absolutely insane.
Speaker 2 (27:49):
All right, how about this passing yards? You got Peyton
Manning twenty nine four hundred and forty two, Aaron Rodgers
twenty eight, two hundred and forty nine. Tom Brady only
had twenty six thousand, three hundred and sixty four over
his first seven seasons as a starter. And I say
only right because Patrick Mahomes thirty two thousand and sixty
(28:13):
eight passing yards over his first seven seasons as a starter,
And that's insane. And so when you're also then looking
at from a wins perspective, how about this number of
MVPs that's at least a win from an individual standpoint.
Tom Brady had one in his first seven seasons, Peyton
(28:35):
Manning had two, Aaron Rodgers had two, and yes, Patrick
Mahomes he also has two in his first seven seasons
super bowls. Oh go go, here we go. Peyton Manning
zero in his first seven seasons. Aaron Rodgers is one
and only super Bowl right win, Tom Brady three, He's
(28:58):
the go to. Yep, Patrick mahone is trying to catch him.
Patrick Mahomes has also three super Bowl victories in his
first seven seasons. So you do have to understand that, Hey,
it's one thing to look at two seasons of stats,
very minimal stats, but you've got to look at the
(29:18):
complete story of Patrick Mahomes and not just from a
perspective of how two seasons measure up against Baker Mayfield,
because there's no comparison.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
I'm sorry, right well, And I also would take into
account when we talk about it all the time, the
eyeball tests, and I'm not even talking about from a
quarterback perspective. The last couple of seasons, you're looking at
the receivers that Pat Mahomes is throwing to doubt, it's
no wonder as numbers are down, how.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
Many drop balls.
Speaker 4 (29:46):
That's what I would like to see the drop ball
comparison between Tampa Bay and Kansas City over.
Speaker 3 (29:51):
The last two years. We'll have to dive into some
of those that wouldats. Yeah, that would tell more of
a story, I think.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
All right, So here, since becoming the starting quarterback in
twenty eighteen, Patrick Mahomes is in the regular season seventy
seven wins ow we can include all of the other
postseason wins, a playoff record.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
Fourteen wins and three losses.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
That includes super Bowl wins in twenty nineteen, twenty twenty two,
twenty twenty three, and we know there's two other super
Bowl appearances exactly that the Chiefs lost. Yeah, and in
twenty eighteen twelve and four regular season record twenty nineteen
twelve and four regular season record, that's the super Bowl win,
three to zero in the playoffs twenty twenty fourteen and
(30:34):
two regular season, twenty twenty one, twelve and five regular
season record, twenty twenty two, fourteen and three regular season,
twenty twenty three, eleven and six regular season.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
But you win the Super Bowl once again, probably.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Your third one, and then last year you're still ten
and seven in the regular season. And so Patrick Mahomes
just continues to showcase that even to your point, even
with the turnover, Now you can obviously say he's had
Andy Reid, and that's a big part of it. I
get that, and that's why we look at Tom Brady,
(31:09):
maybe sometimes in not in a different light, but in
a light as far as, Okay, what would Tom Brady
have been if he didn't have Bill Belichick? But you
also have to look at it the same way. What
if Bill Belichick have been without Tom Brady? And so
as much as we say, well, Patrick Mahomes had Andy Reid,
well guess what Andy Reid had Patrick Mahomes exactly. So
(31:32):
it goes hand in hand. It's the same thing. But
at the end of the day, I mean, we're seeing
how important it is from a quarterback perspective. And my
point is that Patrick Mahomes right now, I know there's
a lot of other really good quarterbacks in the NFL.
Josh Allen MVP, we know Lamar Jackson MVP and those
(31:53):
type of MV MVP caliber type of quarterbacks. We do
know that, and there's guys that are going to be
coming after these quarterbacks, But my goodness, Patrick Mahomes and
he still has an opportunity to put.
Speaker 3 (32:08):
More numbers up.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
And that's what's scary.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
And that's why even what Patrick Mahomes has already done.
When I look at Patrick Mahomes and comparing him to
Baker Mayfield, still Patrick mahomes ceiling is much higher than
Baker Mayfield's I think.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
So.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
Yeah, I mean in the relative of the same type
of quarterback over the last two seasons, if you want
to just grade it on the last two seasons, but
my goodness, I would. I'm taking Patrick Mahomes all day
long as far as a quarterback. Not to say that
Baker Mayfield. I do like his it factor. Yeah, I
do like how he has that bravado and I think
(32:47):
he's matured into that even more so over the years.
And that's why I think it's a really good fit
for Baker Mayfield with the Bucks exactly.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
And you know, not every quarter has to be Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 4 (33:02):
Maybe that's not what's great You're franchise Now, would any
of these teams take Patrick Mahomes, of course, but would
he be a great fit Maybe? What's the word I'm
trying to look for? Culturally?
Speaker 3 (33:17):
And I just for some reason, Baker Mayfield there in
Tampa Bay. It just fits. It just does.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
And sometimes a player needs a team just as much
as a team needs a player. And I think this
was a great landing spot for Baker Mayfield for him
to restart his career, to show that look, everything that
happened there in Cleveland, everything that happened in Carolina, my
whole tenure going up until this point, none of that
matters because I'm gonna give you everything I have right now,
and you're gonna get great quality quarterback play out of me.
(33:44):
And that's what you need right now.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
Yeah, And that's a maturation process that happens with some
of these players. That's why I love watching Baker Mayfield play.
Speaker 3 (33:51):
I really do.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
It's a great player, but he's not Patrick Mahomes. No,
and that's fine, and it is. Patrick's a unicorn. Patrick
is a unicorn, and I love watching Patrick Mahomes play
because at the end of the day, I love watching.
Speaker 3 (34:03):
Greatness and I want to see greatness.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
I want to see history being made, and that's why
I love the opportunity of watching a Patrick Mahomes. But also, hey,
I love watching a Baker Mayfield because I think there's
a little bit of an underdog story that is happening
with Baker Mayfield, even though I get it he was
the number one overall pick, so that's not really underdog, but.
Speaker 3 (34:23):
He's but the story and everything the story.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
Around him, his size, all of that, and obviously the
Cleveland Browns debacle and how that played out, And there's
only so much you can do for that organization, and
it's so dysfunctional that I'm not certain anybody's going to
be able to help them get back to And I
say get back, I mean they seem to be of
(34:48):
a cursed organization over the years. They just really do.
And some of that is also just because of how
they're run. I do want how to use that. Organizations
that are run well somehow they make their luck, they
make better luck, or if that's a right way to
say it.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
I know there's a saying out.
Speaker 2 (35:07):
There this opportunity, Yeah, all of that hard work, Yes,
all of that, And so I think there's something to
be said about what Baker Mayfield is able to do
with the Bucks. But Patrick Mahomes, no question, in my opinion,
still has a higher ceiling than Baker Mayfield. All right,
So I do have a trivia question. Thus, before we
go to break. So here's the trivia question. The text
(35:30):
line is eight six four triple seven ninety five ninety three. Again,
that text line is eight six four triple seven ninety
five ninety three. And this is your opportunity to win
an Autobil car Wash twenty five dollars gift card and
you can go to a couple of locations here in
the Upstate. But you have to answer the trivia question
(35:52):
and you have to do it via the text line.
You have to be the first one to text in
with the correct answer. And again that text line is
eight six four triple seven ninety five ninety three. All right,
So this involves Patrick Mahomes. We're just talking about him,
all right. There's been two quarterbacks in NFL history to
throw for at least five thousand passing yards and fifty
(36:14):
passing touchdowns in the same season. Patrick Mahomes is one
of those. Who is the other quarterback to do that? Again,
There's been two quarterbacks to play in the NFL and
throw for at least five thousand passing yards and fifty
passing touchdowns in the same season. Patrick Mahomes did it.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
Who is the or the Who is the other quarterback
that did that.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
If you know the answer, text it in to eight
six' four triple seven ninety five ninety three for your
opportunity to win a twenty.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
Five dollars gift card To Autobil Car.

Speaker 2 (39:07):
Right does everybody know THE wnba is actually? Expanding AND
i know some people might not even be, interested but
it is just showing again that there's A Caitlin clark
effect that is. Happening as we do have information that
came out yesterday THAT wnba will be adding teams In, Cleveland,
(39:28):
detroit And. Philadelphia really, Yes so now it's, staggered so
each year there will be a different one that's coming
from that, perspective so one additional city each. Year, NOW
i know there actually has been a little bit of
pushback saying that why isn't there a team like In,
florida like In miami something of that. Nature NOW i
(39:48):
do understand, that But i'm interested in This philadelphia team
and the reason WHY i say. That all, right so
hear me out on, This, Okay Don. Staley oh oh,
yeah that's. Right she's From, philly Isn't she's From. Philly
oh that would be. Perfect she's From, philly From South.
Speaker 3 (40:05):
Carolina but it was.
Speaker 2 (40:06):
Legitimate it was confirmed that The New York knicks did
reach out To Don staley about their head coaching. Position
and we do know now That Mike brown has been
going to Be our reports are he's going to be
named the new head coach of The New York. Knicks
and they tried multiple times with different. People nobody was
interested in that. Job SO i don't know how much
(40:29):
that tells you about the, organization but that's something in terms, of,
hey you would think more people would be really interested in.
Speaker 3 (40:37):
That, position But Mike brown is going to be.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
That but that's WHERE i go back To Don staley
and THE, wnba because she has come out and has,
said And i'm paraphrasing here that she loves being involved
in the women's game because she has an opportunity mentoring young. Women, yeah,
YEAH i do, too no question about. It but can
you see her going going back To philly THE. WNBA i,
(41:03):
mean that'd be a heck of. Reunion that would be
something else because she does love her. City oh, yeah Of,
philadelphia there's no. Question so keep an eye on, that all.
Right how about this in terms OF, sga THE mvp
AND nba champion and his contract that he signed just
(41:25):
recently four, years two hundred and eighty five million.
Speaker 3 (41:28):
Dollars so it's seventy one million dollars per. Year, okay.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
Okay so here's the breakdown, Though so per, month five
point nine million dollars per, month per week one point
four eight million dollars per. Week he gets eight hundred
and sixty eight thousand dollars per. Game, jeez it breaks
down to two hundred and twelve thousand dollars per. Day
(41:57):
it breaks down to eight, thousand eight hundred and forty
dollars per. Hour that's a little above minimum, wage just
a little. Bit he gets one hundred and forty seven
dollars per, minute and he gets two dollars and forty
five cents per.
Speaker 3 (42:15):
Second well, DONE, Sga well, DONE. Sga all.
Speaker 2 (42:23):
Right, also we were talking about The Cleveland, browns And
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has signed a new state budget
that includes six hundred million dollars in public funding towards
a fully enclosed state of The Art dome stadium for
(42:43):
The Cleveland browns and the suburbs.
Speaker 3 (42:45):
Of cleveland and Brook.
Speaker 2 (42:47):
Park oh, Wow AND i love one of the guys
THAT i, Follow Andrew brant does a great. Job used
to be their general manager with the in the office
executive offices there with The Green Bay packers and now
he teaches in law. School but he's quoted as saying
(43:07):
socialize the, cost which they're doing, right six hundred million
in public, funding but privatize the profit, yep because The
Cleveland browns are going to be the ones that get
to profitize from all of.
Speaker 3 (43:20):
That so there you. GO i don't, know maybe the
stadium is What cleveland. Needs that's NOT Afc north. Football
you don't pay nor football in a, Dome no you do.
Speaker 2 (43:28):
Not all, Right one last thing and this is In
wimbledon going on right. Now this has happened a few years,
ago but they have A devonshire program and it's basically
it's a way to, invest it's paying for investment and
this is printing money For.
Speaker 3 (43:43):
Wimbledon so it's a few years.
Speaker 2 (43:45):
Ago they sold two, thousand five hundred and twenty center
court devonstures which guaranteed a ticket to every match On
Center court for five. Years so you pay one hundred
and sixty thousand dollars and you get tickets On Center
court for the next five. Years they sold twenty five hundred.
(44:09):
Tickets it's four.
Speaker 3 (44:11):
Hundred and three million dollars of.
Speaker 2 (44:14):
Revenue, Yeah wimbledon figured that one, Out oh kidding pretty. Quickly,
well something like that come to college. Athletics we shall.
