Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hour two of the Richmond Weavers Show presented by Ingles Markets,
rolls on past this four pm hour, and remember we'll
hand things off to mister John Ellis at five pm
and he will be with you for the rest of
the two hours of the local programming. That we have
four hours total local programming each weekday afternoon from three
(00:23):
to seven and again proudly presented by Ingles Markets. So yes,
stay tuned right here on one of four nine Fox
Sports Upstate game on with John Ellis will be with
you for the rest of drive time from five to seven.
But it is time that we actually do a little
bit of golf talk. So yes, let's go inside the ropes, from.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
The fairways to the headlights. It's inside the Ropes driven
by the BMW Charity Program presented by TD Sinax. You're
all access pass to golf's biggest needs in best moments.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
All right, it is our pleasure to welcome in once
again mister Michael McGovern, Tournament director of the BMW Charity
Program presented by TD Cinx, and Michael, I know we
got to see each other just for a few minutes
last night because you were busy. They're at the PGA
Superstore helping to be able to celebrate all of the
(01:19):
volunteers that have helped out over the years. And my
biggest question though for you, Michael, is how are you
going to replace Nancy Smith? I mean, because she is
the ring leader of all your volunteers, my friend, So
I don't know how you're going to be able to
do that.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Nancy Smith. First of all, Richmond, thanks for having me on.
But Nancy Smith has been with the event for twenty
five years and she is just a consummate professional. She's
one Volunteer of the Year award with the corn Faery
Tour I think seven times.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
She's just an awesome, awesome person, an individual that's a yourself.
She really just wants to give and give and give.
And you know, it comes time where health is more important. Yes,
and having Nanty around for a lot more years is
way more important to us at the tournament. She still
be around, but just in a different capacity. But I
(02:13):
can't say another nice things about Nancy Smith and all
that she's dedicated in time and effort to this tournament.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Yes, no question about it. Well, I mean she's been
doing a fantastic job. And to your point, she will
still be you know, involved, just might not be in
the exact same role that she has been. But talk about, though, Michael,
the massive undertaking and the volunteers how they are the
heartbeat of the event to a certain degree, because I
(02:38):
don't know if you could really pull off an event
like you do at the scale that you do without
the volunteers, where you're looking at say eight hundred type
of you know, volunteers. So walk us through just the
volunteer involvement.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Yeah. Absolutely, it's ways for folks in the community to
get involved and to raise raise money for charity. Right,
So every volunteer chooses one of our featured charities that
they're twenty dollars a day goes towards. So if somebody
works four days, they know that eighty dollars of their
effort was going towards their charity of choice. So that's
(03:17):
something that we really set up. We have our charitable partners,
and we really want to make sure that they are
using the tournament as an avenue to raise additional funds
and that's what's most important. That's why we have this event.
That's why BMW and TD Cinics are the primary sponsors
of this event is to raise money for our charitable partners.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
And when you talk about raising money, I mean we're
getting close to twenty million dollars in terms of what
has been able to be raised for those upstate charities.
So you guys are obviously doing something right when you're
able to have that type of community involvement, especially on
the financial side. All right, So Michael heading into ours
should say, heading out of the tournament back in June
(04:04):
and then now somewhat into this planning stages.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
I guess you might call it.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
What does that look like for you in terms of
are you able to take at least a deep breath
and you know, at least understand and reflect about the
past event that you had with Austin Smotherman winning there,
but then also now getting ready for twenty twenty six.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Oh absolutely, it's honestly, when the final putt drops, we
really kind of reflect and what we did right and
what ways to improve, And that's super important to us.
I think any event, you can't stay the same, either
you get better or you get worse. Yes, you can
never stay the same. In professional golf tournament management, so
(04:49):
it's working with the team and really having unique experiences
for our sponsors, having unique experiences for our amateur participants,
and something that they you know, yes, they could definitely
do something like this on the PGA Tour at Pebble
Beach or at PGA West, but those are six figure numbers.
(05:09):
We're not in the six figures and you have the
opportunity to play inside the ropes with somebody that's going
to be on the PGA Tour next year. Yes, and
there's twenty guys from our tour that are going to
be on the PGA Tour next year, so it's it's
really a unique experience. But it's also it's a week
long party and we just happened as a golf tournament's
going on at the same time.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
So yes, there is.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
That kind of what we say, whether it's you know,
whether it's opening weekend at Greered Downtown Festival, or whether
it's the you know, Cole Swindell concert up in Spartanburg
or Marcus King in Greenville, it's it's a great community
event that we are super happy that for twenty five
years BMW has supported this event and it sure seems
(05:53):
like they're going to continue with this moving forward. So
just grateful to BMW and TD Sinex for all that
they've done for this event. But Richmond, you said it
perfectly earlier. It's the volunteers everyone else around the community
that are partnering with us. Whether it's a sponsor, a volunteer,
or an amateur, it's get involved and you'll understand what
(06:15):
we're trying to do once you come to the.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
Event, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
He is Michael McGovern, Tournament director of the BMW Charity
Program presented by TD CINX. And you mentioned in those volunteers,
what's the process to become a volunteer as we're going
to be heading into twenty six and any advice for
first timers that want to make the most of their
experience as a volunteer.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
Yeah, find out the volunteer descriptions right, the job duties,
Understand what the job entails, and if you want to
be active and moving around, there's a job for you.
If you want to sit behind the desk or drive
a BMW, there's a job for you. So there's so
many different avenues in which people can help, whether it's
(07:00):
us driving players around in BMW's we need seventy transportation volunteers.
We need twenty five walking score of volunteers who put
in the scores, you know, for the pros and so,
whether it's a whole marshal, whether it's a night volunteer
and Jim and his crew do a great job at night.
(07:21):
For our volunteers, it's just, honestly, it's finding out what
you like to do and then sticking with that, because
what we always say is, you know, misery loves company,
and volunteering is more fun with friends.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
Yes, it is.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Bring your friend out, bring your neighbor out. It's a
good time where you're going to make sure you get
fed correctly. We're going to make sure you have the
right clothing, shirt size and the hatter advisor. We're going
to have a happy hour at the end of your shift.
We're going to make sure that you forge friendships. This year, Richmond,
we have our first BMW charity program wedding. Two volunteers
(08:00):
met at the tournament two years ago and they just
recently got married, and so things like that just make
it so fun to see that, as you know, we
were a small part in their potential family future and
it's just a lot of fun to see, you know,
last night, I can't tell you how many, you know,
handshakes I had or hugs I had. But it's just
(08:22):
seeing the folks in a different environment and a relaxed atmosphere,
not tournament stress. And you know, we're having the Nancy
Smith Invitational Golf tournament coming up at thorn Blade in
a couple of weeks. We'll get together without volunteers, probably
another two times throughout the year, just showing gratitude and appreciation,
(08:42):
and then you know, October, towards the end of October,
will open volunteer registration and then we ask our volunteers
to help spread the word. But it's also using our
charitable partners. It's using the mobile meals of Spartanberg, it's
using the Gibbs Cancer Center Research Institute, it's using the
neighborhood can the Connection. So it's making sure that they
(09:02):
are out there promoting the tournament and showcasing their why
they're part of the event.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
No question about it. And I don't think you probably
knew that you were going to be a matchmaker. Did
you a wedding from I guess?
Speaker 3 (09:16):
Really cool and it's just it was just really feel good.
They're like, oh, you didn't know we got married. No,
I'm sorry I wasn't invited to the wedding, but it
was so cool just to see, you know, the excitement
and the people coming out together last night, the smiles
on the faces that they haven't seen since June. And
(09:36):
it's really a family. That's what Nancy has instilled in
our volunteers. It's family. And that's what you know, is
really important to us is make sure that that whether
it's a first year volunteer or a twenty five year volunteer,
they get something out of it and they have some
joy in their heart knowing that they did well in
the community for helping an event.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
No question.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
All right, before we let you go, Michael, because I
know you're a busy man, even in somewhat of this
downtime for the BMW Charity pro Am presented by TD
cin X as the Tour Championship in Atlanta East Lake.
And you look at somebody like a Scotty Scheffler who
came through the corn Ferry Tour. So again you talk
about these future stars. You see him there at the
(10:21):
BMW Charity pro Am presented by TD CINX. What do
you make of Scotty Scheffler? And just what his career
has been so far.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
I mean it's a different game, yes, game that some
people are unfamiliar with, right so I know that they.
Colin Montgomery said that back in the day about Tiger
Woods's game, He's playing a game I'm unfamiliar with, and
right now, Scotty, you know, it has a lot to do.
I think with the way he is off the golf course,
(10:50):
I think golf is not a number one to him.
His family is number one. His relationship with God? Is
you number one? Really?
Speaker 5 (10:58):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (10:58):
But you get what I'm saying. It's it's it's refreshing
to see. Not the attention grabbing. I want this. I
want that. I'm in five hundred commercials and I'm trying
to maximize every dollar. It's it's refreshing to see. But
you know, I'd look at the list you mentioned Corn
Fairy Tour. Osh Ka Pattilla played in the Corn Ferry
Tour a couple of years ago. Our local star Jacob
(11:20):
Bridgeman made the tour championship this year. How great is
that for Jacob? You know he catapulted to sixty fourth
sixty fourth and official World op rankings. That's amazing for
a kid coming out of Clemson, right, no doubt, and
he caught the right he caught the right breaks. You know,
there's other guys. You know, when I look at the
Corn Fairy Tour, I see Bryce and Nimmeer at thirty three,
(11:42):
you know, kind of get to the top twenty, and
you know, it's just so refreshing to see these young
players around here. We have such a good foundation of
professional golf. You know, it starts with the godfather of golf,
Heyere in the Upstate Jayhawk. Yeah, and really just this
area is welcoming to that professional star that wants to
(12:04):
matriculate through his career, whether it's through the Thorn Blade
All Star Program or whether it's through sponsor exemptions to
the BMW. It's seeing these guys matriculate. And it's so
fun to watch because now most of these guys are
coming through the Corn Ferry Tour in order to get
to the PGA Tour, the Harry Halls, you know, all
those guys, Now that's the pathway it is, and it's
(12:28):
going to be very rare in the future that you're
going to see a college player come straight out of
college and go straight to the PGA Tour, those starts
are going to be a premium for you know, for
these events. You know, the PJ Tour schedule came out yesterday,
nine signature events. That's nine times at the top thirty
in the world. Are more than likely going to take
a position, yes, And you know, so these playing opportunities
(12:50):
for these pros are keep you and far between. So
you got to perform when you have the stage.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
No doubt.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Yes, And I know you're trying to get out there
and perform. And you guys some golf and tournaments that
you're going to be playing upcoming, so get out there
and hit them straight.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
And man, I know.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
You still got to be so frustrated, Oh so close
on that hole in one, my friend.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
It was a lot of fun. I celebrated my fiftieth
birthday at Tubble Beach and those golf courses out there,
and then we're playing in the South Carolina Listeners Cup
with the Discover sc Cup down at Kia in a
couple of weeks. Super excited to have that with the
PGA Tour radio personalities. So there's just you know, usually
when you get into the golf business, you don't play golf,
(13:34):
and I really made a commitment after this year's tournament
to say I'm gonna get my handicap down to a scratch.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
There you go.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
You know, I treading that way and I'm working hard
at it. So grateful to thorn Blade and Carolina Country
Club will let me go out there and practice and
sharpen my skills.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
There you go, my friend. Well, Michael, you're always welcome here.
We greatly appreciate it and definitely look forward to having
you back on as you're prepping up and getting ready
for the twenty twenty six BMW Charity pro Am presented
by td CINX. And you know we'll be out there
broadcasting as well, so we're definitely looking forward to seeing
everybody out there. And you have a great rest of
(14:11):
the day, my friend.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
Thank you, Richmond, appreciate the partnership and definitely value our relationship.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
Yes, sir, that is Michael McGovern, tournament director of the
BMW Charity pro Am presented by TD cin X, as
heading inside the ropes to a certain degree right there,
and yes, you have to remember that when you see
some of these guys and this is we've talked about
it that are on the corn Ferry Tour that then
(14:39):
make it to the PGA Tour again. The level of
just how good these guys are. And I know I've
talked about it several times, and you can talk about
it just even from basketball football. It doesn't matter, yes,
any sport, there's levels to how good professionals are. And
(15:01):
if you haven't been out just to see some of
these guys, you're missing out, especially if you just love competition,
if you just love human performance and athletic ability. And
sometimes it's almost it defies physics some of the things
that human beings can do. And I know it's not
necessarily defined, but it is impressive what we can do.
(15:26):
And so it's right here in the backyard right to
go up there and either volunteer or buy tickets or
be part of it. You can have the opportunity of
as Michael was talking about, with playing with some of
the pros. I was fortunate to be able to do that.
And it's a little humbling, not gonna lie. You think
you're really good out there on your own course until
(15:47):
you go out there and play with those pros. It's
a little different when quote unquote red light comes on
and they announce your name on the first t box.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Yeah, that's right. Wait a second, I gotta hit this now. Yeah,
it is a.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
Different feeling, but it is an amazing feeling at the
same time. I know that might not make a whole
lot of sense, but I think there's enough people that
do understand what I'm talking about. All Right, we got
to hit this break because we've got college football to
talk about, to NFL to talk about. As we'll continue
this Wednesday edition of The Richmond Weaver Show presented by
TD presented by Ingles Markets.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
That's the BMW. There we go. Let's get this straight.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
We don't want to make any of the sponsors bad,
as we certain know they're all our friends.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
We're back right after this.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Eight six' four two four zero five four eight. Zero,
again that number is eight six four two four zero
five four eight. Zero that's the number to The Ingles
hotline right here On The Richmond Weaver show presented By Ingles,
markets and you can join the. Conversation let us know
some of the things you're most excited about heading into football.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
Week, yes we are in Football.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
Week, Saturday Iowa state And Kansas state will be kicking
things off at. Noon but in all, Reality week one
is when we're going to be most. Excited oh, yeah
and at some point we will be calling the games that,
start say On august twenty, third we will be calling
it week.
Speaker 4 (17:17):
One, Yeah i'm speaking it into.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
Existence i'm not the College Football, commissioner, right BUT i
think there's enough people that would also, say.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
Hey we don't need gimmicks with college. Football execui. Football
it's college. Football we're already excited enough about.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
It it seems like you're almost trying to manufacture some
uniqueness SOME i don't know what the right way way
to stand out from THE.
Speaker 4 (17:45):
NFL nfl doesn't have week, Zero, no so we'll do.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
IT i, mean they've got a. Preseason, yeah but this
is not. Preseason this is count. Yeah, okay AND i
know you're across the pond In, ireland but there's other
games that are going, on even.
Speaker 4 (18:02):
All the way back To.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
Hawaii oh, yeah they're playing Against. Stanford, Okay stanford in THE.
Acc and that's What it's so funny that THE sec is
pushing OUT acc you, know in football, week and they
say something. Different but it's, like, man that takes a little.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
Bit to get used. To, yeah it.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
Does That stanford is in THE, acc but it's part of.
It it's where we're. Going it doesn't matter at the
end of the, day conference versus, conference however that might.
Be but there is something THAT i don't think that
we need to try to continue to look at ways
(18:43):
as far as propping up college. Football it's already propped
up just in itself that we want to see. Football
we Want, yes we're hungry for, It, yeah, exactly. Yes
and you, know maybe college football is a little bit
of the appetizer before THE. Nfl BUT i think there's
enough college football fans that are, like, no, no college
(19:03):
football is the main Entrede. Oh, yeah there's a lot
of them out, There, yes no. Doubt so we don't
have to try to make college football something a little
bit more. Unique AND i Know i'm probably over analyzing,
this over talking about.
Speaker 4 (19:19):
THIS i get, it BUT i just. DON'T i just
don't like, it you.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
Know AND i had a conversation With Josh, pate who
is on he's with On Three rivals now The Josh
Pate College Football, show and he's also a big.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
Proponent that why are we doing?
Speaker 1 (19:36):
This, yeah you, know and If i'm College Football, commissioner
that we're doing away with that because we don't need.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
That but let me know your thoughts or anything else
that's on your.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
Mind eight six four two four zero five four eight
Zero and let's head out to The engles hot line right,
now The Richmond weavers.
Speaker 4 (19:50):
Show who's?
Speaker 2 (19:51):
This, hey?
Speaker 6 (19:52):
Guys you, KNOW i think college football should adopt the
moniker that THE sec. Has it just means. MORE i
think that would probably worked well for them BECAUSE i,
think you, know it's not just. Listening we all know
that that football is dig in The. SOUTH i don't
care what conference it, is it just. Is but you know,
what it's kind of big. EVERYWHERE i don't care what
(20:12):
part of the world you go, to as far As america.
Is you, know you can go to The, northwest the
north the mid The, midwest The. Northeast there are pockets
where football is just, huge, yes and at every. Level
SO i don't think that this is just A southern.
Thing it's An american. Thing and you, know this is
our sport and we've kind of started, to you, know
(20:35):
take it across the, pond and you, know it's becoming
more popular around the, world but it's always going to
be our sport. First SO i don't have a problem
with the college footballs FOR, sae the powers that be
using that, moniker because it does just mean. More we
wait all year for, this and when it finally starts
to get, close we get.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
Excited, yes we get very.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
Excited it's that season of, hope the talking, season all
so that we have something to gravitate, towards right and
as a, Community, billy you, know it's the fan base
is coming. Together this is our. Year this is that.
Opportunity AND i agree with. You college football is our.
Sport and, Again, americans we love, pride we love, ownership
(21:20):
we love the ability to all come together on a united.
Front AND i think college football lends itself to do,
that and THE nfl does. ALSO i, mean all of
these sports to a certain degree have. That but there's
just something different about, football and we've talked about. It
it's it has a uniqueness all in.
Speaker 4 (21:39):
Itself, well you.
Speaker 6 (21:41):
Know the great thing about football in general at any
level is if you Go, friday you, Know thursday, Night friday,
Night saturday, Night, Sunday monday to any any you, know
at any level In, tailgates you'll see people of all
walks of, life, life all, races all, religions all. Nationalities
and you know what this more divisive now than anything is.
(22:01):
Politics you won't see people of all political spectrums tailgating.
Together and the only thing they care about are you
wearing the super and blue or are you wearing you,
know some other. Colors, so and that leads me to
my next. Point you guys were talking About america's. Team you,
Know i've always been under this understanding that what Made
dallas special is AND i think you guys hit up
(22:23):
on it because you, know that's part of our. History
we had cowboys here of, all and LIKE i, said
it was all walks of.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
Life.
Speaker 6 (22:29):
There there was cowboys that were, black that Were Native,
american there was just you, know cowboys of all walks of. Life,
uh you, Know hispanic or. Whatever but that's what our
country was known. For and so that's a part of our.
History and then you add certain elements of the color
of you, know the. Pageantry at the time when me
and you was growing up In, richmond they were, winning,
(22:51):
yes you, know and that's gonna always be there because of.
That and then the biggest aspect of it, is, yeah
they have a big fan base across the, country but
there's more haters than there is people who, love AND
i think that's a huge element of. This you, KNOW
i don't know about, you BUT i encounter a lot
Of Pittsburgh steelers fans in this. Area, yes BUT i
just DON'T i don't encounter as many people who hate
(23:12):
them as they do The Dallas. Cowboys you'll have people
calling your, show and Especially John, show and they like
to talk, about, well you haven't won Nothing smith ninety.
Five well that's. Good you're still talking about, us, though,
buddy that's.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
Right, Yes AND i do think there's something what you're
alluding to their abilly BECAUSE i think there's a lot
Of Pittsburgh steeler fans out, there much more THAN i
really BELIEVED i guess or. Understood, yeah there is a
definitely a. Lot and Remember pittsburgh was a winning organization
(23:44):
and they have been oh yeah for a long, time
so there is stability. There they function at a high
level all of. That but yet how often do you
hear people, say, OH i just do not like The.
Steelers not as.
Speaker 4 (23:57):
Much.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
NOW i know you're A steelers, fans so, yes here to,
do but not as much as you.
Speaker 4 (24:02):
Do for like The cowboy nowhere near nowhere near nowhere.
Speaker 5 (24:07):
Near, yeah you.
Speaker 6 (24:07):
Don't have as many people calling various shows discussing The
cowboys and how irrelevant they. Are, well if they're so,
irrelevant what are you doing talking about? THEM i mean, there.
LISTEN i know that there are fan bases that have
their rivals and they're always going to be front and
center in their. Minds but it seems like The dallas
is living is, living you, know rent free as the
old thing, goes and a lot of fan bases minds
(24:29):
for no reasons because you, know like they always, say
we haven't won up a new thirty Years, richmond so
and that's. Fine you, know that tells me that we're still,
irrelevant not regardless of what happens on the. Field BUT
i will say, this having said all of, that and,
listen you're going to relate to this at least to
a certain, degree but not in the same way because
you you, know you had one of the premier franchises
(24:50):
as your FAVORITE nfl, team but you, always you always
have The Crimson tigers to fall back, on and you can, say,
okay they're not you, know top, five top, ten whatever
it is as in, history but they are considered a
blue blood by most. People South carolina's. Not and so
for the better part of my, year my, life you,
Know dallas has meant more to. Me BUT i hate
(25:11):
to say, this but in the last couple of years
it has become obvious to me because of the way
That Jerry jones is running the franchise that it seems.
Hopeless as far as you, KNOW i don't expect them
to win a Super bowl in the next five. Years
i'm not even dissipating them to be competitive for a playoff.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
Spot this.
Speaker 6 (25:26):
YEAR i think they're going to win six or eight,
games and that to me is there is their. Feeling
if they do better than, THAT i still don't expect
them to get past the division round at this, point
why would we expect? It But South CAROLINA i feel optimism,
now you. Know SO i have become more of A
carolina fan over the last few years THAN i Have dallas.
Fan AND i never THOUGHT i would say, that because
(25:47):
if you look at the history of both of those, teams,
organizations you, know, programs whatever you want to call, It
dallas is a much more blue blood Than carolina will ever.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
Be, oh there's no, question and it seems to be
a mystery with The cowboys and THIS, ebb the flow
or THE ebb into the valley that they just can't
get out of the. Valley and it just seems year
after year there's something that. Happens BUT i have a
question for, you, Then, Billy i'm going to pose this.
(26:18):
Question what is more likely than The Dallas cowboys winning
Another Super bowl in the next ten years Or South
carolina Game collged football winning a national championship.
Speaker 6 (26:33):
IF i had to, GUESS i, mean, LISTEN i don't
think neither or likely if you want me to be,
honest BUT i would Go. CAROLINA i Think South carolina
is closer to making the. Playoffs AND i know it's
not apples to, apples because let's be, honest you mentioned,
THIS i Think, monday the percentages are not the. Same
there's MORE nfl teams that make the playoffs every year
than as opposed to College that's. Right BUT i do
(26:56):
think That South carolina is on the cusp of doing
something special when the next five. YEARS i JUST i
believe that it just seems like And i've heard you
talk about, This, Listen i'm not saying you're pulling For.
CAROLINA i don't think you. ARE i don't think you're
pulling against. THEM i just think you're one of Those
crimson fans that's, like, hey it's good for us and
it's good for the rivalry when they're both, good but
we beat. THEM i get, that you. KNOW i would
(27:16):
love to get to the point to where we're the,
alpha and we're saying that about you, guys but we
haven't gotten to that point. Yet we were scratching and
calling to get. There but the momentum is so positive With.
Carolina everybody's sensing. It even the people who hate them
the most is don't want admit. IT i know that
they can sense. It there's something growing special In columbia right.
NOW i believe THAT.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
I do, Too, billy and we got to hit this.
BRAKE i appreciate the call and you call anything, Everbody,
yes thank. You And i'm telling you THAT i do
pool For South. Carolina AND i know there's a lot
Of clemson fans are, like what the hell you just said.
That you just admitted that over the radio And billy
(28:00):
was talking about so let me. Clarify, Yeah i'm pulling
For South carolina in terms of, YES i.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
Want them to, win so they're.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
Good, yeah BUT i don't want them to win Against.
CLEMSON i can promise you. That but, again let's have
both teams competitive so when they're playing against each, other
because at the end of the, day it doesn't hurt
me If South carolina, wins except when they Beat.
Speaker 4 (28:24):
Clemson.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
Yeah AND i had to Watch Leonora sellers run all
over last, year And i've Seen South carolina Beat clemson
and so AND i do think That South carolina is
on the cusp of having an. Opportunity and just think
about this. Though so in twenty and, ten AND i
(28:45):
Know i've got to hit this, break BUT i got
to make this. Point in twenty and, Ten clemson was
six and, Seven and if you would have posed the
question To clemson fans at that, time, hey do you
Think clemson will win a national championship in the next ten,
years they would have said you're. CRAZY i would have,
(29:08):
said you are. Crazy, well my, gosh it happened in twenty.
Sixteen In january of twenty, seventeen they win the national
championship right less than ten, Years so it's. Possible So
South carolina should have the same type of. Attitude why not.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
Us so you're telling me there's a.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
Chance, yeah of, course And clemson won. Two, right this
is twenty, ten are you kidding? Me nobody would have
guessed that in twenty ten at six and.
Speaker 4 (29:36):
Seven there's no.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
Way so there is, opportunities there is a, Pathway so
don't give Up South carolina fans and enjoy the. Process
enjoy the, journey and it will be even more rewarding
Because i've lived it as A clemson, fan AND i
Hope South carolina actually has the opportunity of doing. That
(30:00):
but if they Play, clemson oh come, On, Tigers Go.
Tigers that's All i've got to. Say much. More right
after this continuing hour two of The Richmond Weavers show
presented By Ingles markets right here on one oh four
Nine Fox Sports upstate and make sure you get out
to your Local. Ingles get ready for the. Weekend, yes
(30:21):
we are oh so, close getting ready for, tailgating. Housekating
you need, groceries you need supplies for all of, that
And ingles has you.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
Covered they've got the best meat in.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
Town they form partnerships with local, farmers so you know
they have the freshest produce, around organic produce and the
best prices in. Town so make sure you stock up
at your Local engles and get Your ingles advantage cards
so you can save money inside the store and then
also even at the gas pump because you can earn
(30:53):
those rewards or you just go redeem them there for
free gas or discounted.
Speaker 4 (30:57):
Gas, yes it's pretty.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
Easy we love. Easy we talk about it all the.
TIME i want the staples easy button in. Life and
that's WHY i like Having Brian kite on to talk
about certain things from a life in sports, performance you,
know with all the behavior PERFORMANCE i should, say and
HOW i mean we were how many days ago we
were having the conversation and it was almost like a
(31:19):
little therapy session that AND i appreciate you letting me
be on the couch AS i was talking, About, man
why AM i getting frustrated in?
Speaker 4 (31:27):
Traffic and it's all on? ME i got to look
in the, mirror, right it's a part of.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
Me it's not you, know this scenario playing out with
everybody else's.
Speaker 4 (31:37):
Fault my universe isn't ganging up on. You it feels
like it at. Times that's what it.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
Was that's what's so crazy about life at, times you,
KNOW i, mean don't get me. WRONG i mean there's you,
know life is amazing And i'm getting very philosophical, here
SO i didn't even know Where i'm going with all of.
Speaker 4 (31:55):
This but this is a. Tangent we haven't had a
tangent a long. Time Have, well oh, no it's not
WHAT i was gonna. Say It's.
Speaker 1 (32:01):
Thursday it's, no It's, wednesday, yes. Exactly so, YEAH i
haven't had a tangent in a long. Time but here comes. Tangent,
okay right here In, weaverville tangent time is. Happening but
there's so much beauty in, life and sometimes we just
don't appreciate it enough because we get so tunneled vision
(32:24):
And i'm trying to focus on not being that way
and you, know coffee bean. Mentality don't fall into the
pressure of you, know the pressures of the world that
make you hard like a boiled, egg or you know
where you get angry and mad like WHICH i have
done at, times where you get soft like a carrot
when it's exposed to boiling. Water that you, know you
(32:47):
just get, passive just kind of give up on you,
know having energy and all of. That but, no be
the coffee. Bean don't let the environment change, you you. Change,
Yeah and that's a big part of. It and So
i'm trying to do a much better job of.
Speaker 4 (33:04):
That but sometimes it's. Hard it's, hard.
Speaker 1 (33:08):
And so that's why sometimes see even just being able
to talk about it right, NOW i even feel, better so.
Better so the listeners out there are the, INVESTORS i
appreciate you letting me sit on your couch and let
me have a little therapy session. Here as you, know
we continue to talk through some of the things that
even frustrates us with, sports and we do know that.
Speaker 4 (33:28):
That happens quite a.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
Bit and, yes and there is something about the maturation
process that you start to you, know the the edges
start getting a little bit softer over time as you
get older because you, realize, okay that loss On, saturday
it didn't change my.
Speaker 4 (33:48):
Life it.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
Didn't do anything for, Me, no, exactly there is something to.
That join the conversation, though eight six four two four
zero five four eight, zero and let's head out to
the hotline right now The Richmond weavers.
Speaker 4 (34:01):
Show who's This?
Speaker 1 (34:04):
Richmond, yes, well don my, SON i am doing, fantastic,
sir how about?
Speaker 4 (34:11):
You?
Speaker 5 (34:13):
Good i'm driving down the. Road And i've listened to
you talk about what you were in the previous sevement
before he went off the break about Why South kina
fans should. Believe and then you mentioned you mentioned twenty
ten For, clemson they go six and, seven lose To
South florida and what was then called A monikey cartair bool,
yes and you know and who you, said all, right
(34:36):
you know who would have believed That clemson would have
gone on to do things that they did in that. Decade,
well that's where the belief system of One William Christopher
sweeney comes into comes into. Place because he walked right.
IN i never will forget. It he walked right into
that press conference and he, said, listen this season did
not end the way we wanted. It it did not
(34:57):
go with the way we wanted. It BUT i saw
things that tell me that we're headed in the right.
Direction and then he made the, prediction we are about
to embark on the greatest decade In clemson football. History
so he put a date on. It, basically he was
saying over the next ten, years or actually over the
next nine, years because one year had already been ater his.
Belt but you, know the next nine. Years we're about to.
(35:20):
Embark and did you know that in twenty seventeen When
clemson went To Coral gables and Beat miami fifty six
to nothing that day and that was win number eighty
eight for Coach sweeney and it set an all time
mark for a. Decade so it was done by the
(35:41):
year of twenty. Seventeen he still had eighteen and nineteen
still to, Go so, yes it can be. Done that's
the belief system that every program needs to, have whether It's.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
South, Carolina, clemson.
Speaker 5 (35:53):
You, Know, KENTUCKY i don't care who it, is, right
that's the kind of belief system that you need to
have to be able to accomplish Great, thanks dream, big don't,
extream stream big is you know what it taught us to?
Speaker 4 (36:07):
Do no doubt and That moniker why not?
Speaker 1 (36:11):
Us why can't it be you, know a particular, team
a particular fan base because you lived At don you
were part of those calls and those. Memories as Coach
sweeney is able to lift The Clemson tigers into a
realm that they didn't think might be. Possible as we're
talking With Don, munson the director of broadcasting and the
(36:32):
play by play voice of The Clemson tigers and getting
ready for the upcoming. Season all, right so don how
are you preparing right now for this upcoming?
Speaker 5 (36:41):

office with just team off. Vacation i've been on, vacation
So i'm just my first day back in the office
and ten days out and gearing up and getting. Ready
so spot board work will begin here over the next
couple of, days you, know working by the by the
(37:01):
time that the weekend is, COMPLETE i should Have clumpson's
depth chart basically done on my side of the. Things
we'll have to wait to see what's gonna happen as
far AS lsu is. Concerned we'll wait for their depth
chart to come. Out that'll come. Out i'll probably get
it On mondays when we'll get. That get that, news
so get to work on. That and then obviously we
got press conferences On tuesday And. Wednesday i've got practices
(37:24):
that get to go to all that kind of. Stuff
so you, know it's right there in front of. Me
and looking forward obviously To august the, thirtieth and right,
now it looks like The Good lord is gonna bless
us with some incredible weather on That.
Speaker 6 (37:37):
Saturday you may.
Speaker 5 (37:38):
REMEMBER i went back that spring, game spring game this,
year how hot it was In Death, valley AND i
put out, there by, way what's gonna be, hell what's
gonna be hotter? Today or our season opener AGAINST? Lsu you,
take and you take the PICK i. TOOK i took
the spring, game and right now it looks Like i'm
gonna be. Right, YES i will tell me about eighty
degrees on That saturday when we kick it, off you
(38:00):
and that.
Speaker 1 (38:01):
Is going to be absolutely, fantastic picture perfect type of
weather to open the. Season but we'll still jump back
up into those. Nineties you know, that don that that
will happen at some point.
Speaker 5 (38:12):
Coming we're coming In. September we're gonna have some warm
days still because ran, rightfully so it's still, summer you,
know we still haven't we still haven't moved out of
the way of summer just quite, yet so we're still
in the middle of. Summer fall hasn't hit a hair,
officially but we'll have a few warm, days but not
what we suffered through certainly In, july the first part Of, august.
Speaker 1 (38:33):

Mine hitting the latest. Headlines it's the daily, rundown all.
Speaker 4 (39:16):

Speaker 1 (39:17):
THIS i did really enjoy some of the highlights THAT
i saw of Rich eisen on The Sports, center AND
i Know john talked about it and actually played a
clip on game on AND i thought it was fantastic
because it did sound like. Nostalgia it sounded like what
we love are loved About Sports. Center so how about
(39:39):
this reviewership seven hundred thousand, viewers which is up sixty
seven percent from the average ELEVEN Pm Sports, center and
it was also slightly Above Rich eisen's Last Sports center
ON espn in two thousand and, three which had six
hundred and seventy thousand. Viewers so, yeah there's something about.
(40:02):
It and so apparently because of that, success they're going
to start having Rich eyesen come on and do a
little few performances there On Sports. Center, yeah so there
is something special about that when you look at it
and knowing that Rich eiesen and everything that he meant
To Sports. Center all, right speaking Of Sports, center BUT.

his twelfth career, major becoming the first player to win
THE pga twice on the same. Course oh, wow so
