(01:28):
little after five pm. So again get down here to

and let's.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Head out to the Ingles hot line right now the
Richmond Weavers show. Who's this.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
You doing?

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Hello, Sean? How are you my friend?

Speaker 3 (01:49):
I'm good luckman?

Speaker 4 (01:51):
I you doing?

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Hey, Drey? What the.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (01:56):
I love you to call us with the tell Neil
that there's no heart feeling. Man, I love him. I
love kneeling to take my son is actually twenty six
years old. He was He was ripping me more than anybody.
That's all. That's great, But it's not like he was like,

(02:16):
oh god, I can't believe now. He was like, oh man,
you do foundly kind of mess up on.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
The Hey, yes, exactly, Sean. There's nothing wrong with a
little banter. We can do that. That's that's how it is,
this community that we have here on one O four
nine Fox Sports Upstate.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
But I sure did play it up a little bit like,
oh yeah, I'm wasted. I'm you know, I just well
trays I am, I mean trained well.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Yeah, yes, and that's right. And Sean, and I apologize.
I didn't get to your text yesterday, but I did
see it. And you're still just throwing some shade on
those Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
Huh yeah, yeah, yes, yes, you said you do not
like the Dallas Cowboys, and I think you use the
word I actually.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
I do not like them at all. But I was
raised that way. You know. Wow, it's wild down there
where you guys are I can, yes.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
It is.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
It is extremely loud. Now, Sean, So are you a
NASCAR fan? Are you a racing fan?

Speaker 3 (03:26):
A little bit much more than I am a golf fan.
I pull for Coyle, I pulled for Kyle Busch train
those I don't. I don't do golf and I don't
do country music.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Do a lot of hockey, yeah, hockey.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
I do a lot of hockey. I do like hockey.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
Yeah, my son, that's a big NHL fan too.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Oh it's great. You know where else can you watch
guys fight? Get each other up.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Well, you can't have the racetrack cause they'll they'll do
some fighting here too.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
That's for cert in the face with fus.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
Don't worry about they don't worry about concussions. You know.
It's it's great, man, It's a definitely a man sport.
You bet you better man up. You're gonna strap on
the stage. I did have a question though, and I
think you a good one to ask. I'm not a
huge college football fan. I'm like, I am an NFL fan,

(04:24):
and and then and I n I L confuses me
a little bit. Uh, as far as now it seems,
is it more like the NFL where there's a it's
like a Fouan pap or is it more like Major
League Baseball the team with most money is just in
the dominant.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Yeah, that's a very good question.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
And Shawn, we appreciate the phone call and that question
and the and it's great that we've got Darren Angel
here also from the Wish Law firm, as he's joining
us down here at Anderson Motor Speedway. So in essence, yes,
they're wanting to have the guardrails that you do have

(05:09):
this revenue sharing and schools are allotted approximately twenty million
dollars for this revenue sharing, and then the schools get
to decide how much they want to be able to
push to certain athletic programs, how much they want to
go to football, how much they want to go to basketball.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
So they get to decide that.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
But there's really no cap because that's just the revenue
sharing aspect of it. So they still are allowed to
have the collectives and so you can still continue to
raise money and pay through what they call nil, which
we know is supposed to be endorsements. So it's a
shell game and just in terms of moving money around

(05:53):
and how you're hiding some of this money and how
you're classifying it. So in essence, I say all of that, Sean,
So there's real not a true cap. Now that's where
I do believe we need to go in college athletics
is to be more like the NFL. We need to
have collective bargaining. We need to have an entity that
oversees these college football teams. And I think when I

(06:16):
say college football teams, we know those are the money makers.
So for right now, it does seem that it would
be more natural to have a split for these college
athletic programs to move football completely separate and have a
different silo, so you could have collective bargaining and salary
caps based on the revenue sharing, but there's always going

(06:38):
to be that opportunity of somewhat skirting the system if
you allow the NIL collectives to continue. I don't know
if that answered enough of the question, Sean, but that's
my thoughts on it.

Speaker 5 (06:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
Yeah, so it found to me like, like Georgia, South
Carolina climbson, we are still going to dominate.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Yes, that's right, there's definitely going to be part of that.
But again, Sean, we do appreciate the call, sir. You
call it any time and you have a great weekend.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
Thanks for real site. I have a great weekend.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Yes you too, as you can hear it.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
It's loud here as they're really ramping up right now
getting around this racetrack.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
All right.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
So based on that, based on all of this that
we're seeing right now, because again going back to my childhood,
I actually loved NASCAR, and then crazy enough, my oldest son,
he was a huge NASCAR fan when he's like eight, nine,
ten years old. So it was a great somewhat kind
of circle. You know how life goes.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
Around in a life.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Circle type of moment. But I wanted to give you
my top ten NASCAR moments from my memory. Yes, from
the Richmond Weaver Speedway, not Richmond Speedway as we know about.

Speaker 6 (07:58):
This is the.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
Richmond Weaver speed Way. All right, So mister Falco, let's
count us down. Okay, number ten, I'm going back to
nineteen eighty seven, Okay, Winston five hundred. Bill Elliott would
set the speed record. And the reason why I remember
this because I was a huge Bill Elliott fan because

(08:21):
I went to high school in Coming, Georgia, right beside Dawsonville, Georgia.
So yes, Bill from Dawsonville. Oh yes, you better believe it.
He blistered the field with two hundred and twelve point
eight miles per hour qualifying lap still the fastest in
NASCAR history.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Absolutely insane. And you also remember Bobby Allison his car
went airborne and flipped. That's why I remember that race
so much because of that. So that is a moment
of raw speed right there.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
That is number ten. All right.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
I'm going to the two thousand and six Daytona five hundred.
How about this, Jimmy Johnson his breakthrough win.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Now, oh it's just Jeff over there. He doesn't like
Jimmy Johnson. I could tell yo he was my favorite
racer back in the day.

Speaker 6 (09:16):
Oh yeah, nothing belove for Jimmy Johnson.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
That's when he would start his superstar status right there,
winning the Daytona five hundred. And you remember Chad Canows
actually got ejected during that race, yes, because of the
illegal card modification there.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
So that is my number nine.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
How about this, We'll go to the nineteen ninety two
Hooters five hundred, as we would see there in Atlanta,
six drivers battling for the championship. And the reason why
I remember this because it was Richard Petty's last race,
the King, and I was a huge Richard Petty fan
growing up. Also, so Richard Petty might show up again

(09:58):
in this list.

Speaker 6 (09:59):
He was actually and Luke Calm's newest video at Tri County.
He made an appearance there in that video.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
Absolutely love love about that, all right, said the King.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
Yes, we'll go with Earnhart's Pass in the Grass. You
remember that Charlotte nineteen eighty seven, And I remember, and
I'm standing up right now because I was.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
There in attend.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Oh yes, I mean, and I'm a Bill Elliott fan
and I'm yelling.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
He's going crazy.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
As Bill Elliott tries to pass Earnard in the grass
right there is they're bumping, and it sends him sliding.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
Through the grass right there.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
But the intimidator, Dale earn Hart keeps his foot in
and passes Ellie lifting and wins the race. The passing
the grass. I was there, man, I'll never forget that.
That's absolutely fantastic. Number six all right, I gotta go
with Jimmy Johnson again.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
Here we go.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
Seven title at Homestead back in two thy and sixteen,
as he would win that race and would just squeak
by with forty points to earn him that title.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
He won by four points. That's absolutely insane.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
And Jimmy Johnson, you can't tell me Jimmy Johnson is
not one of the greatest.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
He is our history.

Speaker 6 (11:21):
Unfortunately it has kind of been downhill since then. But
he was great.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Seven titles tied the record there.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
Number five all right, nineteen eighty four Firecracker four hundredth
because again I was a huge Richard Petty fan. He
would get his two hundredth win in this race as
he was battling kale Yarbrol and again that might come
up again later on, but I'm telling you this is
one of those things that when you know you've got

(11:49):
President Reagan watching and those type of memories right there,
they will stay with you for a long time. Right there,
Richard Petty two hundred wins, and again, I don't know
if anybody's catching Richard and his number of wins in NASCAR.

Speaker 6 (12:02):
He has something that's that camervative bottle too. What's that
the commemorative bottle.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
You have that. I don't have their commervative bottle, but
I do need to get that, all right.

Speaker 6 (12:09):
Number four?

Speaker 1 (12:10):
How about this? We see him out there right now.
He has been racing Dale Earnhardt Junior and his emotional
triumph Daytona two thousand and four, three years after the
tragic loss of the Intimidator Dale earn Hard death, he
would dominate Daytona five hundred, leading fifty nine laps there
and keeping off Tony Stewart at the finished there for

(12:32):
his first first five hundred win. Again, absolutely fantastic when
you think about the legacy Intimidator and winning for his dad,
all of that. There's my number four Number three, all right,
we'll stay in the family. Dale earn Hart nineteen ninety eight,
Daytona five hundred. Finally the Intimidator gets his win. After

(12:55):
twenty years of heartbreak, he finally conquers Daytona five hundred.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
And I remember.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Also, there was so much discussion about Dale Earnhardt and
not being able to get the victory at Daytona. It's
almost the same equivalent to a super Bowl because we know,
I mean, that is NASCAR's super Bowl and it starts,
you know, at the beginning of the season. But there
was the question where would you rank Dale Earnhardt without

(13:23):
the Daytona five hundred, and people were saying, oh, he's
a great racer, but he can't win the big one.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
He can't win the super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
So him getting that one, that was a big moment
there back in.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
Nineteen ninety eight.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
Number two, all right, how about this in two thousand
and one, then as we saw Michael Waltrip win the
Daytona five hundred. But that's where we lost the Intimidator,
Dale Earnhardt on the final lap there, and that tragedy
obviously sparked the enhancements and safety with the Hans device,

(13:57):
safer barriers, you know, all of that big safety overhaul
after that race. And again, Jeff, you probably remember it,
maybe you two Darren the wreck, I mean, I remember
watching it live, and I've seen worse, yes.

Speaker 6 (14:11):
Exactly, probably worse that day, Yes, probably that day.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
Exactly when the cars are airborne and flip and the destruction.
For him to hit the wall the way he did,
it didn't look like he would be killed.

Speaker 6 (14:25):
If you remember that day. Michael walshup, he could care
less about winning that race. His concern I remember that.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
That was definitely a big part of it.

Speaker 6 (14:36):
All right.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
That was number two, yes, now number.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
One, Oh my goodness, this changed NASCAR. And I watched
it live on TV. I remember it distinctly, and I
was actually, of all places, I was in uh Cleveland, Tennessee, Ducktown, Tennessee,
because I was with my brother, my younger brother, and

(15:00):
I remember watching it at my stepdad, which I'll call
my dad I never do my biological father, but it
was at his dad's house there, and I remember watching it.
It was the Daytona five hundred, and it was the
first Daytona five hundred that was broadcast live. Flagged a flag,
so they the first time we got to see the

(15:21):
entire race. And if you remember, Donnie Allison and kill
Yarborough are neck and neck there on the last lap
and they crash and that allows Richard Petty, who was
seventeen seconds behind, to be able to win the race,
his sixth Daytona five hundred. And I'll never forget that

(15:43):
because then you're talking about fights.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
This was the brawl that.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
Yeah, exactly, as Donnie Allison and kill Yarboro get into
a fight and Bobby Allison wants to get in the
middle of it too, his brother. This was NASCAR at
it's prime, and I just remember it so vividly because
my brother was five years younger, and uh, we were
playing the game while the race was going on, and

(16:13):
it's just so crazy. It's just crazy how the memories
just pop up in your head. But he was five
years younger, so I was. I was, you know, eight
years old at the time, and uh, but I'd have
him run by and I had to try to knock
him down with a pillow or he had had to
try to knock me down with a pill.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
Exactly. Yeah, I missed my brother.

Speaker 6 (16:40):
Good good top ten there, rich Tell you. I really
didn't know your roots of racing until you till you
mentioned a lot of that and that, Uh, I'll tell
you it says a lot. Rich You're very he's out
in the field. I mean he knows golf, basketball, football,
and now he has added racing to his forte of

(17:01):
sports knowledge. And I really appreciate you coming down and
doing what you've done here. Man, it's been a phenomenal show.

Speaker 7 (17:07):
That was a that was an impressive top ten. I mean,
you pulled some some strong moments out there.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
That was that was that was fun going down memory lane.
All Right, I gotta take this break. Call it. You're
on the line.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
Hang with us through the break is We'll continue this
Friday edition of the Richmond Weavers Show presented by Ingles Markets.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
Right after this, the.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
Friday edition other Richmond Weavers Show presented by Ingles Markets
continues right here at one O four nine Fox Sports
Upstate Live from Anderson Motor Speedway.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
It is loud, Oh.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
My goodness, though I see some rain moving in here.
Has some of the fireworks show in the Yes, exactly,
it does look like as we tried to speak it
into existence to keep the thunder away. But it is
rolling this way right here, and as we are also
we are rolling on here our two of the Richmond
Weavers show that'sented by Ingles Markets. Just Jeff joining us,

(18:20):
and make sure you remember he is hosting track Chat
live each f each Thursday, I should say, Thursday night
at eight.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Pm from eight to nine pm.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
Him and David the Rocket Roberts who is here who
has actually been practicing and he will be racing tomorrow
as well.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
And also Dale Earnhardt Junior is here.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
We just talked about him Hall of Famer as he
is here, as he will be in the late model
stock car tomorrow night.

Speaker 6 (18:47):
I'll say this rich before you get into your next segment.
Out here, with the more cars on the speedway, it
does create a vortex and a lot of times the
weather that's coming in it will stay in the distance,
keeps the rain out. I mean, okay, you don't have
it all the time, but sometimes it has happened.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
Okay, meteorologists there we go go ahead to be one.

Speaker 6 (19:08):
I don't play one on TV, but I worked here.

Speaker 2 (19:11):
Yeah, and you stayed at a holiday in Express last night.

Speaker 6 (19:15):
And I have witnessed it myself. The rain has come
in and just moved around because of the war takes
here from all the you know pressure.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
There we go. Okay, see you learn something. You never
know what you're going to learn here on the Richmond
Weavers Show. All right.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
And also Darren Angel from the Weisch Law Firm is
joining us. And I know we've got a caller on hold.
Thank you for holding through the break right there. This
is the Richmond Weavers Show.

Speaker 5 (19:38):
Who's this Richmond? How you doing, sir?

Speaker 2 (19:42):
Doing fantastic? How about you? My friend?

Speaker 5 (19:45):
Doing very good? It's good to hear you, guys. Boy,
it doesn't do it justice listening to it on the radio.
You can actually hear it.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
This is loud there, oh, yes, loud.

Speaker 1 (19:55):
Yes, And we're right here. I mean we're almost on
top of the track. Now we're high up here in.

Speaker 2 (20:02):
The grandstand booth part or whatever.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
But yes, we were right on top of the track
the sweet Yes, we're in the suite right here.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
But we appreciate you giving us a call. Billy. What's
on your mind today?

Speaker 5 (20:11):
Yes, sir? Well, first of all, you know that top
ten was good, and honestly I remember most of those
in the fact that you know, it's funny you you
and I are so much alike. The only thing that
we've got different is we pulled for different college teams.
But I was a huge Bill Elliott fan. He the
one who got me to be in a NASCAR fan.
I can remember going to races with my uncle. He

(20:32):
was a big race guy. They'd go down to Darlington
and Charlotte and Bristol and stuff like that. Man we
set out he had a camper and we'd set out
there over the weekend and have a good time. You know,
it's like tailgating and football. But anyway, I can remember
some of those races that you mentioned. I didn't really
care for races when I was smaller. Darryl Walter was
who I like back then, and then I became a

(20:55):
pretty big, big NASCAR fan in the eighties with Bill Elliott,
and I remember him breaking that track record. He was
the one that was responsible for good restrictor place. I
know it was across the board, but he was the
one that kept breaking his own.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
Track records, so and didn't sure did.

Speaker 5 (21:10):
Obviously, everyone remembers the crash with Earn Hart, and I
remember that fight with that with Allison and the other guy.
You know, I remember that I was younger, but I
do remember that, so that brought back some good memories.

Speaker 8 (21:21):
You know.

Speaker 5 (21:22):
The one that I would have probably had added Richmond
would have probably have been the big wreck. I think
it was a talladega with I think his name was Wallace.
You know, he's since retired obviously, but he I mean,
he rolled seventeen or eighteen times and I thought, for
sure that guy's got to be seriously injured, and he was.
But if I'm not mistaken, he was racing before the
end of the year was up.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Again, I think that's right.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
Yeah, Rusty Wallace there, Yes, that's a good one. Yeah,
I could definitely put that on the list as well.
Billy for sure.

Speaker 5 (21:50):
Yeah, and then uh, you know, but the rest of them,
I remember all of them, and so that was a
good list you had. But I just wanted to respond
quickly to something to Neil said, Yes, I have been
putting five or ten dollars, That's what I've been vetting
Richmond on the preseason. But you know what I'm five
to know on those pre season games, I picked five
hundred dollars on the money line for five dollars and

(22:10):
it's and cash for ten, So you know, I've done
pretty well on that. And as far as who's going
to win in that football game, Neil knows a lot
more about football than my son does. But but but
Neil's old and my son's in his low thirties. He's
a lot better, you know, handye coordination.

Speaker 6 (22:25):
If you know what I'm trying.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
There, you go, I love it. Yes, we're going to
speak that into existence, yes, sir.

Speaker 5 (22:31):
And the last thing is your other topic when you
first got on, when you was talking about what happened
in Michigan. I've kept this this stuff in my mind,
you know, for a couple of years when that first
allegation first broke to me. That's not that big of
a deal that they pushed the envelope probably, But I've
always believe that everyone's doing stuff like that. They just
happened to get caught. That's the reason why I'm not

(22:53):
upset about it. And I feel like that that punishment
was a lot worse than it should have been. That's
just my personal opinion.

Speaker 1 (22:59):
Yeah, there's something to be said about that and that
to how much did they really from an infraction standpoint,
how much Because we know teams are scouting, teams are
doing so many different things trying to get to one
little edge. And if we see it all the time
in baseball, you're trying to steal signs. I mean that
that is part of and people will say, oh, that's

(23:19):
part of the game.

Speaker 2 (23:20):
You're trying to steal the signs.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
Now when you start using technology and maybe you're going undercover,
like corpor Stallion said, maybe there is a little bit
of crossing that proverbial line. But when you look at
the punishment that we've seen in the past from the
NC DOUBLEA for some of the ridiculous rules, it doesn't
always equate to what we're seeing right now and from

(23:43):
a logical standpoint, and that's why Billy, I think so
many people are also just frustrated with the NC double
A because you just don't know from what they're going
to do year in and year out.

Speaker 5 (23:54):
Yeah, well from one case to the other, you know
you can. Yes, it's very similar in a high spand
this very similar, and they'd be two different outcomes. So
you know, NASCAR and college football, especially in the in
the South, is very similar. You know that old saying
that you used to say in the SEC, and I
think I've heard it a little bit in NASCAR back
in the seventies and eighties. If you're not treat cheating,

(24:14):
you're not trying. I fly to that, but that's just
me anyway, I appreciate it, Richmond. Have a good weekend, buddy.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
You do the same. Thank you, Billy.

Speaker 1 (24:22):
We appreciate anybody else that wants to jump in the
conversation eight six four two four zero five four a zero.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
And speaking of like the NC double A and from.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
Case to case, what about the South Carolina Gamecocks football
with the running back Faison Rozul. I mean, come on,
make a decision you. It should not take this long.
I know he's still practicing. Maybe a little banged up,
but I think he'll be all right. But it's about
time we get to the point where the NC DOUBLEA

(24:52):
can make a decision as far as being able to
move forward with him either going to play or not
going to play.

Speaker 2 (24:59):
All right, it is time.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
Though, that as we are on a Friday, we have
to take a look at who might had a spectacular
performance this week.

Speaker 8 (25:10):
It's time to shine with this week's MVP.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
I'm MVP, all right, let's take a look.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
We talked about it, and I know just Jeff over
there is really excited about this one. Taylor Swift's debut
on the New Heights podcast.

Speaker 6 (25:32):
I'm a swifty. I'm gonna get you go. I'm gonna
call it swifty.

Speaker 2 (25:36):
Okay, Hey, I'm a Swifty.

Speaker 1 (25:37):
My wife is a huge Swifty fan, so by default
I'm right there.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
All right.

Speaker 1 (25:41):
Listen to some of these stats though, when you're looking
at some of the analytics when she was on the
New Heights podcast with her boyfriend Travis Kelsey and his
brother Jason, three hundred and seventy nine million views on Instagram, Wow,
sixty one million views on x thirty, four point five

(26:04):
million views on TikTok, fifteen million views on YouTube, one
point three million live viewers the episode stream it crashed.
They passed three million followers on Instagram, four hundred thousand
new YouTube subscribers since that episode launched, and it's the

(26:28):
most concurrent podcast listeners ever.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
Wow.

Speaker 6 (26:33):
So I need to get Taylor Swift or track tat live.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
Yes, exactly. How can we make that happen? I need
to make that happen.

Speaker 6 (26:44):
Put her boyfriend in a race car. I don't know, all.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
Right, So it's easy to say that's the MVP of
the Week, Taylor Swift on the New Heights podcast.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
But what about this, This is what I'm talking about
with sports. This is why we watched, This is why
we love it because it's the David versus the Goliath.
It's the underdog.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
So Jimmy Abdo, who is a struggling golfer amateur, He's
a Division three, he barely made his high school team.
He's ranked four thousand, two hundred and ninety two, and
now he's two wins away in the US Amateur.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
Where he could be in the Masters. That's incredible.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
Four thousand, two hundred and ninety two is his ranking
amateur wise, and only has to do is win two
more times and he can secure a spot in the
Masters as being an amateur champion. Yeah, I'm going with
that as my MVP of the week.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
Yeah, even if he doesn't make it, just to be
able to get into that position, the heck of a
running mate. That is a hell of a run right there.

Speaker 1 (27:53):
All right, We're going to continue this Friday edition of
the Richmond Weavers Show, presented by Engles Markets right here
at one O four nine five. Sports Upstate broadcasting live
from Anderson Motor Speedway. You still have an opportunity to
get tickets for tomorrow night's big event, part of the
Zmax Cars Tour, as the first race will drop green

(28:15):
at seven pm. That'll be the Pro Model Series and
then you'll have the Late Model stock Car Series a
little bit after that. Again, qualifying starts a little after
five pm, so make sure you get your tickets to
get down here for some racing and you never know
what might happen.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
There might be some fights. A's just Jeff talk about it.

Speaker 6 (28:34):
You can see some throwadays out here. Go to a
fight in a race may breakdown.

Speaker 2 (28:37):
And you go. Anderson Motorspeedway. Dot com is where you
can get your tickets much more. Right after this.

Speaker 1 (28:49):
Live from the Anderson Motor Speedway. This is the Friday
edition of the Richmond Weaver Show presented by Ingles Markets.
As we are oh so close to wrapping up two
and we'll hand things off to mister John Ellison Game
On at the top of the hour and he will
be with you for the rest of drivetime until seven pm.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
And yes, this is again.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
Part of the new four hour local programming that we
have each weekday starting at three o'clock with the Richmond
Weavers Show presented by Ingles Markets and John Ellis with
game on from five to seven, so make sure you
keep it tuned right here to one oh four nine
Fox Sports Upstate. And now you can tell there's no
racing going on because it's gotten quiet.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
We've got some clouds rolling in.

Speaker 1 (29:32):
Hopefully this rain's gonna hold off, but it does look
like some of the teams are understanding that maybe it's
best to close things down for a little bit. But
we are honored also to have Scott Childress joining us
here as he's the owner here of the Anderson Motor Speedway.
So Scott, thanks so much for being able to join

(29:53):
us here. And I need to know, walking back in
some of your history, when did you become a race fan?

Speaker 2 (30:00):
Wow?

Speaker 9 (30:01):
That started as a kid.

Speaker 2 (30:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (30:03):
So my dad at one time owned fountain in Speedway
back in the day. So you know, at five years old,
I'm climbing in and out of the creeks helping water
the race tracks and that's what I did on the weekends. Yeah,
never went hunting, always went racing.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
Went racing. Did you race yourself? I did?

Speaker 9 (30:22):
I raced for probably a good ten years.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
Okay, Yeah, and any wins.

Speaker 9 (30:27):
Yeah, yeah, I've got ninety two wins, but I'm not counting.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
Yeah, there's no accounting going on whatsoever. No pride in
all of those ninety two wins. Do you remember that
first one?

Speaker 2 (30:40):
I do.

Speaker 9 (30:41):
Actually, it's kind of a funny story. I finally, you know,
after about a race, and at the time, everybody was
parking next to me sharing their food. Well, I ended
up winning three in a row. I didn't share no
food anymore exactly.

Speaker 1 (30:57):
I was yeah that, yes, of course, you're starting to
dominate at that point. Scott Childress is our guest here,
the owner of Anderson Motor Speedway.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
Why become an owner? Why did you want to invest?

Speaker 1 (31:10):
Not only obviously the financial side, but also just the
time because this is not always easy.

Speaker 9 (31:16):
Yeah. So when my dad got sick, I just kind
of lost interest in driving putting the time into it.
But my family still loved racing, so we got into
promoting at the Travelers started at Traveler's Rest Speedway and
just kind of worked my way around the different tracks,
and I've owned Livonia Speedway, promoted there, I've promoted at

(31:40):
Cherokee Speedway and hair Speedway.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
So well, you're doing it all then, right.

Speaker 9 (31:45):
Yeah, but you know, now this is a this is
my first time promoting in an asphalt track, and I
really enjoy it.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
Okay, and with this race, the big one tomorrow the
Zmax Cars Tour and with the Late model stock Car
or it's the first time they've been back to here
at Anderson Motor Speedway. How involved and how important was that,
I should say, for you and your team to be
able to have this event here. I really love putting

(32:13):
on the big shows. Yeah, and this is this is
the big show for the.

Speaker 9 (32:17):
Small tracks, and you know, as an honor when they
called and so we got got to team up with
them and then be able to host this event, and uh,
you know we're looking forward to it. It's they're nerve wrecking,
but you know they're there, are a lot of fun
and something always goes wrong. So we're just kind of

(32:38):
waiting to see what you gotta what you gotta fix
or work on or life will continue.

Speaker 1 (32:44):
Just yeah, life will continue to throw monkey wrenches, no
pun intended, as we see probably a lot of monkey
wrenches out there as the teams though are it looks
like they're closing up shop from the practice standpoint, as
we do have a little bit of rain here at
the Anderson Motor Speedway and I can hear some thunder
and Scott Childer is the owner of Anderson Motor Speedway,
is joining us and tomorrow again tomorrow night. As we

(33:06):
talked about the ZMAC Cars Tour, the Bennett Equipment and
Supply two twenty five, and I know Bennett Equipment has
been a big part of this and bringing this event,
but also BnB Oil and What a Burger also have
been a big part of this. So talk about their
involvement and what that means for you to be able
to put on an event like this.

Speaker 9 (33:25):
Yeah, I mean, you know, it takes the sponsors, the
it's the whole nine yards. Really, you gotta you know,
with these guys teaming up with us, they help promote
the event as well as we help promote their product.
You know, What a Burger is going to set up
a tent and they're going to be given out tickets
and you know, t shirts and fun stuff like that.

Speaker 6 (33:47):
For sure.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
Well, and I know people are going to be eating a.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
Lot of What a Burger's also there is that because
that has hit the Upstate with a big splash. I know,
a lot of people have been very excited at what
a Burger has been able to make their way here
into South Carolina. But Scott, we appreciate you spending a
little bit of time with us here. I know you've
probably got to get out in abound making sure everything
is running as practices seem to be wrapping up right

(34:12):
now based on the rain. But obviously the big big
event is tomorrow night.

Speaker 2 (34:18):
Sure, yes, sir, thank you, Scott.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
We appreciate it as we'll continue this Friday edition of
the Richmond Weaver Show presented by Ingles Markets. Hey right
after this, the show continues as we're broadcasting live from
Anderson Motor Speedway. This is the Friday edition of the
Richmond Weaver Show, presented by our good friends at Ingles Markets.

(34:42):
As the rain is starting to fall here in Anderson.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
Hopefully it will pass through, but it does look like.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
The teams have stopped practicing there, putting everything back in
the trailers. And I think everybody got exactly what they
wanted to understand about their car as they will have
qualifying part of the Bennett Equipment and Supply two twenty
five with the Zmax Cars Tour. Again you can get
tickets at Anderson Mootorspeedway dot com. Green flag will drop

(35:11):
tomorrow at seven pm, qualifying a little after five pm,
and you can also watch it on Flow Sports TV.
It's another distribution platform. Mister Darren Angel from the Weisch
Law Firm is joining us here down here at the
Anderson Motor Speedway. But you can join the conversation though
eight six four two four zero five four eight zero.

(35:31):
And let's head out to the Engles hotline right now
because we have Sean on the line from Indiana. And Hello, Sean,
thank you for giving us a call, my friend.

Speaker 10 (35:42):
Yeah, thank y'all for letting me call. This is my
first time ever calling.

Speaker 3 (35:45):
A radio station.

Speaker 2 (35:48):
You're doing great, love it.

Speaker 10 (35:50):
I just how to make my uncle Neil and my
dad proud. I know they are, and so yeah, I'm
just calling because my uncle Neil called me out and
I hope that you go today.

Speaker 1 (36:05):
We are doing great and even better that you called,
because I love it, and I'm going to speak it
into existence.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
You're going to take Neil down.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
I've got all the faith in you. You can do it,
my friends, and were we appreciate it.

Speaker 10 (36:18):
I will try. I will try my best well I
just want to say my two favorite teams is Dallas
Cowboys in South Carolina.

Speaker 1 (36:26):
There you go, and your thoughts then for both teams.
Will the Cowboys have success? And how much success will
the game Cocks have this year in football?

Speaker 10 (36:36):
Well, you know, I guess you know, we just got
to find out. I heard that with the practice in
South Carolina, Beamer loves what he's seeing. Yes, And for Dallas,
I'm not really sure. I just hope that we can.
You know, Jerry Jones can get the contract figure out
with Parsons.

Speaker 2 (36:51):
That's a big if that's the problem there.

Speaker 1 (36:53):
Sean, I'm a little worried about how things are going
in Dallas right now, that's for certain. But with South Carolina,
I do think there's going to be something special happening
down there in Columbia. But Sean, we greatly appreciate the call,
my friend. We got to wrap up this show, but
you call any time, and we appreciate you listening through
the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 10 (37:13):
Can I just say one thing real quick though about
my uncle Neils concert about Billy.

Speaker 2 (37:16):
Napier here, Oh yes, okay, go ahead, yes, sir.

Speaker 10 (37:20):
What this comment earlier about replacing Billy Naper I'm just
going to say, I'm going to stream this game tonight
and with my uncle's but so bad world, make Billy
Napier a better play caller. And after the clock hit
zero and being up by at least thirty might as
well be known as the dump instead.

Speaker 3 (37:34):
Of the Swamp.

Speaker 2 (37:38):
Well, Sean, there you go, and that is a mic drop.

Speaker 1 (37:41):
Moment, and you came with the heat. We appreciate it,
my friend. You have a great weekend, and good luck.
They're taking Neil down again. You call any time. How
about that, mister Falco. My goodness. Okay, he saved the
best for.

Speaker 2 (37:54):
Last, right Yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:57):
Yeah, they're laying the hammer down and I know, I
know Billy is enjoying that right there.

Speaker 2 (38:04):
As Sean has.

Speaker 1 (38:06):
His first time calling, he was just easing into it
and then decided, Okay, here we go, I'm going to
drop the hammer right here.

Speaker 7 (38:14):
Yeah, he was like, I'm feeling comfortable now now it's time, John,
It is time.

Speaker 2 (38:21):
All right, we are getting ready to wrap up.

Speaker 1 (38:24):
We'll hand things over to mister John Ellis with game
on and he will be with you through the rest
of drive time again, as we're broadcasting live here at
the Anderson Motor Speedway. Rain is starting to fall, so
they're closing up shop. And I do think there is
going to be surprise on John Show. Yes, looks like

(38:44):
there's an opportunity. Dale Earnhardt Jr. Is going to be
a guest on Game On with John Ellis. You definitely
want to stay tuned for that.

Speaker 2 (38:53):
It's a Hall of.

Speaker 1 (38:53):
Fame racer right there, Dale Earnhardt Junior here in Anderson,
and he will be racing tomorrow night part of the
Late Model stock Car that will probably go round to
eight o'clock, but the Pro Model will start at seven o'clock.
And remember qualifying does start at five o'clock, so you
can watch qualifying as well. It's a great opportunity to
see these guys doing some blazing speeds around this little

(39:17):
short track here. Anderson Motorspeedway. Dot com is where you
can get your tickets. It is August fifteenth, and this
is the last weekend that we have without college football,
so get ready for that. And let's take a walk
back in a little bit of history.

Speaker 8 (39:35):
What happened on this day. Let's go back in history
to the moments you might have forgotten and the ones
you'll never forget it's OTD on this day.

Speaker 1 (39:47):
All right, on this day, nineteen ninety three, and this
is going to be a lot of golf because if
you remember, back in the day, the PGA Championship was
held around this time of the year, but then they
switched move that to May so they could have the
Tour Championship. We know the Tour Championship is going to
be next week in Atlanta, and.

Speaker 2 (40:07):
I actually will be down there. There you go.

Speaker 1 (40:10):
I'm looking forward to getting down there to see East
Lake and its restoration that just happened a couple of
years ago. But on this state in nineteen ninety three,
Greg Norman would miss a putt on the second playoff hole,
which would give Paul Azinger the title, leaving Greg Norman
with an unprecedented career of Grand Slam playoff losses. Remember this,

(40:36):
Greg Norman won the British Open, but then lost in
playoffs in the three other majors, the US Opened, the Masters,
and the British Open. I didn't know that, yes, And
so you have to remember Greg Norman was a yeah
at the time. He just couldn't get over the proverbial
hump right there. Nineteen ninety nine, we'll stick with golf. Also,

(40:57):
as mister Tiger Woods would make a par save on
the seventeenth hole and would win by one stroke over
nineteen year old Sergio Garcia, but Tiger Woods was twenty
three at the time, becoming the youngest player to win
two majors since Sevi Ballasteros did it in nineteen eighty
And in two thousand and four, Oh, this was a

(41:19):
tough one if you're a basketball fan, especially for the
US men's basketball team, as they would lose to Puerto
Rico ninety two to seventy three, which was only the
third Olympic defeat for the Americans and the first one
since the Dream Team was added.

Speaker 2 (41:35):
In nineteen ninety two.

Speaker 7 (41:37):
I remember that.

Speaker 2 (41:38):
Oh yeah, I remember that was not good.

Speaker 1 (41:40):
The US team record entering that game one hundred and
nine and two. Yes, a little bit different. And also
in two thousand and five, Phil Milkison would deliver another
dramatic finish as he would chip out a deep rough
to within two feet for birdie on the final hole,
which would have a one shot victory for the PGA Championship,

(42:04):
And in twenty ten, another opportunity for the PGA Championship
as Martin Kamer would win the PGA Championship in a
three hole playoff against Bubba Watson. But the crazy thing
will Dustin Johnson had a one shot lead going into
the final hole and then he was penalized two strokes
for grounding his club in a bunker on the last

(42:28):
hole on the eighty, which resulted in the two shot
penalty and would put him in fifth place.

Speaker 2 (42:34):
Crazy. Those are the roles of golf, though there you
go right. That is OTD and that.

Speaker 1 (42:39):
Is this Friday edition of the Richmond Weaver Show presented
by Ingles Markets. We appreciate just Jeff getting us set
up down here at Anderson Motor Speedway, and thank you
Darren Angel and all of our other guests.

Speaker 2 (42:50):
We'll talk to you on Monday.
