until five pm and then we'll hand things over to
mister John Ellis and game on as he will be
(01:24):
with you for the rest of drive time until seven pm.
And also we have a special guest still in studio
with us hanging out for hour two mister Marcus Brown,
co founder of the Junkyard Hit Studio. So we do
appreciate you being able to be in here and give
us some of your college football knowledge because I'm going
to put you to the test.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Here, test me, Here we go.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Thanks, I'm ready, a right, ready to go. All right. So,
looking at some of the teams in the top twenty
five and especially more so in the top fifteen because
we know at the end of the day, Marcus and
I know you will agree to this. Even with the
college football playoff expansion, there's still only truly a handful
(02:06):
of teams that are going to be national champion contenders.
Oh absolutely, it's just the reality.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Yes, that's just the name of the game.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
You can have some cinderellas, you can have some potential
upsets in the first round of the college Football Playoff.
We get that, but even more so now it's harder
to win a national championship because you have to play
more games.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
You got to play more games you do, and and
you got to have some money.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
Now, yes, you definitely have to have some money, because
it is a completely different landscape. We do know that.
But knowing that, there's a handful of teams. So I'm
looking at just even the top fifteen teams, and that's
probably too many teams that could actually win a national championship.
It's probably more in line with seven or eight teams
(02:51):
that can win a national championship. But all of these
teams have expectations.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Oh yeah, right, Lisa, And.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Yeah, some of them are going to be higher in
terms of, hey, no, we're championship or bust, and that's
national championship. Some of them, let's just get to the
College Football Playoff and whatever happens happens. That success in
itself right there, because not everybody can be the team
that wins the very last game. One only can be one.
(03:18):
So when I look at some of these teams, and
some of the win totals, and that at least gives
you a gauge as far as what Vegas is telling
you the potential of their season, because it's one thing.
We look at these coaches polls, we look at the
media polls, all of that.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
What does Vegas got to say?
Speaker 1 (03:36):
What does Vegas have to say? Don't they have better
polls on what's going on?
Speaker 2 (03:41):
They're normally pretty spot on.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
It is eerie how many times they're oh so close,
especially when you're looking at a point over under totals.
I mean, I don't understand how they're so close. You're
talking about half a point point, yes, yeah, exactly when
they're saying, you know that not even from a team
is supposed to win by you know, six and a
(04:04):
half points and that team wins by seven, or they're
supposed to win by ten and a half points and
they only win by ten. I'm talking even also total
the total points scored between the two teams. I'm like,
how is it that it's forty five and a half
points is the over under total and the score ends
(04:25):
up being, you know, twenty seven to twenty eight and
it's forty five. How in the world So when I
look at some of these over unders, like the Texas
Longhorns nine and a half. Now, this is according to
FanDuel based on July thirtieth data, so there might be
a little bit of variation as we're getting closer to
the college football season. But the Texas Longhorns at nine
(04:46):
and a half over under, I mean, if you believe
in Texas that they're the number one team in the
country nine and a half, are you kidding me? This
should be easy. Depends on how well you believe in Arch. Well,
that's the thing. Arch Manning is an unknown entity.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
Unknown. Yeah, I think they've already given him some wins
without even knowing. And I don't doubt the man. I'm
not sure I believe that he will do very well,
but I think I've seen a lot of interviews from
him where he's very humble about it. Yeah, but I
think the fans are not. This is the Highland Trophy
winner exactly. That is Eli and Payton all in one
(05:23):
person right there, and they are like, we got and legs.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Yes, they do have road games at Ohio State to
open the seas up, at Florida and at Georgia. Oh wow,
So this is not just an easy schedule. And again
I'm not touting this whole SEC, but we do know
based on the teams that they're playing that just happened
to be in the SEC, it's really good teams.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
They're going to be battle tested for sure.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
There is no doubt. All Right, how about this with
Penn State. Ten and a half is their win total,
So that basically means they got to go eleven and one. Yeah,
that's or they're going undefeated twelve to zero.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
And that's a tough team right there.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
We haven't seen James Franklin be able to get over
that proverbial humh. They're like beating an Ohio State in
the regular season, beating an Oregon in the regular season.
New coordinator, right, new defensive coordinator, new defensive coordinator. But
it's Jim Knowles. I mean, this guy is top notch
defensive coordinator, and we know they're going to have a
(06:25):
top ten type of defense. And they also have a
quarterback coming back Drew Aller, right veteran type of guy.
But they might have arguably the best running back duo
in the country with Nick Singleton and k Tron Allen,
both almost eleven hundred yard rushers last year.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Could this be the year they put it all together?
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Yes, that's the question, Marcus. Yes, so I tend to
think that there might be a chance that Penn State's
going to get over that ten and a half.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
I could see it happen, and I think I hit.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Right at ten. Okay, there we go, all right, the
Clemson Tigers nine and a half. Clemson has the highest
returning production in the country. We know you've got Cage
Club coming back for starting offensive lineman. And now how
will a new defensive coordinator, Tom Allen be able to
(07:20):
resurrect that talented defense that we know Clemson Tigers. And
also how about this the Ben Bullwaer effects.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
It could be a perfect storm. I think they do
it because they're going to score points. Clemson is going
to score points. I think that is just inevitable for them.
I think it's just can they keep their offensive fret
I mean, keep their offense fresh and you know, hold
other teams to you know, minimal points, right Like, I
don't think they want to get into too many like shootouts. Yeah,
I don't think that's where they want to be. But
if they can get ahead, they're a hard team to
(07:52):
catch up to like like those stay ahead I think
very easily. But no, I'm very confident in what Ben's
bringing to the tape for sure, right you know, I
can speak, you know, for days on what he's doing.
And it's not even from the like game planning perspective,
it's just the energy perspective, which I think has a
(08:12):
huge effect on those players and those guys of like
the confidence that you can step on the field with,
they're gonna they're gonna have that for sure.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
And especially on defense, don't you have to have a
different type of gear, a different type of you got defense.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
You got to, I mean you got to be able
to step out there and know that you are the man,
Like there is nothing whoever you're going against you ain't
even worried about him. Like you're coming out there, You're
ready to play fast, move fast, hit hard. And it's
just like they're gonna have that confidence when they come
out there.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
I've always said that I think defensive players, you guys
are off just a little bit. There's something that is
because you love going after an offensive player.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
Exactly and hitting yeah, offense, you know, you think their
job they don't have to hit you if they don't
want to like they can avoid you like that they're
doing they if they never get hit, that's a great job.
We want to hitch exactly, we want contact.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
You thrive on.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
And that's like you know, a good Demons player, that
is your goal. Every play is to hit somebody. They
don't even have to be the personal Somebody is getting hit.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
And if there's a guy that loves hitting somebody that's
been bullwear, I know you know that. Oh yes, all right.
How about this with the Georgia Bulldogs. This is a
team that again people are looking at, Okay, can they
have somewhat of a rebound. They haven't been able to
have the success over the past couple of years relative
to what we saw with back to back national championships,
(09:39):
So you do have to keep that into perspective. George
is still one of the top teams in college football.
There's no question. Oh there you go. They're a nice
pun I like that. They're over and under is nine
and a half. Hmmm, nine and a half with this
team because they're replacing a lot of NFL talent. I
get that. But they do have some games that are
(10:02):
winnable because they're at home Tennessee, Alabama, and Texas are
all at home, so that helps significantly. So I'm curious
how Georgia will be based on I've got a brand
new quarterback. When I say brand new, no, he's not
brand new to the system, but as a full time starter,
I mean he was Carson Beck's backup last year, Gunner Stockton,
(10:23):
and I've talked about it, knowing that he's not a
highly touted type of quarterback relative to some of the
names that they've had in the past. And we know
that Stetson Bennett almost came out of nowhere yea so
to speak, and was so successful. So can you have
that twice for the Georgia Bulldogs in a short period
(10:44):
of time, two quarterbacks that really didn't come in with
a name and be able to elevate the team.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Which one of them was the one that stepped in
when Carson Beck went down.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
That was Gunner Stockton last year.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Yeah, Well, I remember them like talking about like they
got with the team and they asked, you know, what
are their thoughts and concerns about that? But they I
felt like the team was behind him.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
A lot and really doubt they liked him.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
They do, I mean if that's gonna be their guy,
you know, there.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Is something to be said about for and we saw
it in the Texas game and the SEC Championship where
Texas you know, had the opportunity Carson Beck gets knocked out,
but it's Gunner Stockton that stabilized the team, so to speak,
and you know, allowed them to get that victory in overtime.
So and they talked about it at the broadcast that
(11:32):
that belief that the teammates had in Gunner Stockton. And
as you know you've been on team, that's real.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
It is real, and I can't say it's different though,
you know, playing a little bit both sides of this year,
it's I would think for somebody like that, you have
nothing to lose, though, so stepping into a game like that, yeah, true,
you can play a lot more freely than when you
take that first snap and you're the guy. So I
think that's going to get something to look at early
in the year too.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
Yeah, and it is a completely different pressure point when
now all of a sudden, you are that guy. And
we talk about it even from a teen perspective, it's
one thing your preseason ranked twenty fifth and you climb
up you know, and then yeah, you got a shot,
you know, to win a national championship or win a
conference championship. And then the next year your preseason number
(12:20):
one and everybody's coming gunning for you. Oh yeah, that's different.
And that's the same way as a player exactly. Hey man,
I got nothing. Let's go out here and let's play ball.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
You do good, Okay, great, Like we didn't expect it,
so yeah, thank goodness. Right, But if we expect you
to do good and you don't, then it's like.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
That's different. That's a whole story, and especially when you
got all off season to think about it. I gotta prep,
I gotta get ready. I gotta perform. Yeah, so there's
something real about that, all right. How about this South
Carolina game, Cocks number thirteen in both the AP and
the coaches poll, seven and a half? Is there over under?
(13:01):
I think this is an easy over and I love
to see it. Yeah, And I know there's a lot
of South Carolina fans that are like, oh, we want
to fly under the radar. We don't want, you know,
that type of pressure. But as I talked with coach
Shane Biemer last Friday down at the radio, affiliate Luncheon
and asking him about what he's described before. Pressure is
(13:25):
a privilege. Yeah, I mean this is the time, Hey,
go ahead, give us the target.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
The good teams they welcome, they welcome up to me.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Yes, I think you have to have that, and you
talked about it. You have to have that belief, you
have to have that chip on your should.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
I mean, like I said, it is a privilege because
there's a lot of teams out there. You said earlier,
you know their goal might just be to make the
playoffs or you know, to have a winning There's teams
out there their goal for this season is a winning record,
right right. But there's also teams out there where they
walk in and you know their goal is the conference championship.
But there's also those couple of teams like you said
that their goal is national championship. That's so it's like
(13:59):
and they are the ones that welcome the pressure.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
They will embrace that type of pressure because they want
to be in that spotlight. They want to be in
that limelight. The question though, for South Carolina, they do
have a tough stretch of games, So listen to this schedule.
As far as South Carolina, a four game stretch here
in October at LSU October the eleventh, Then you bring
(14:25):
in Oklahoma October eighteenth, as we talked about later with
old excuse me, that was old mis excuse me. And
then October twenty fifth, Alabama comes rolling in to Willie
b and then you go on the road as we
mentioned November first to Ole Miss. So you've got LSU, Oklahoma, Alabama,
(14:47):
and Ole Miss on the game Cock schedule. So October
that is going to decide South Carolina's season right there,
those four games, if you can win a minimum, if
you can win those home games, yeah, it'd be huge
for them because we know that's gonna be a tough one.
(15:11):
Yes exactly, on the road at Ole Miss. I think
that's winnable. I think so that's more winnable than the
LSU game on the road based on what we know
of LSU right now now, again, who knows what will
happen down the road. And also we're going under the
presumption that South Carolina is also going to be able
to evolve and continue to get better throughout the season.
(15:34):
And we know Leonora Sellers seems to be that guy.
He seems to have a pretty high floor. We just
don't know how high a ceiling on right now. And
I think that's if you're a South Carolina Gamecock fan,
you got to be excited about that. Oh absolutely, yeah,
that's why seven and a half. Yeah, go ahead and
sign me up. I'm going over.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
We'll be able to ask them at the end of
the year what the real death Valley.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
Is, right and how that would be if both schools
from the state of South Carolina could take down the
LSU Tigers. Bring it on, Yeah, I love it, Bring
it on. All right, We're going to continue this Tuesday
edition of The Richmond Weaver Show presented by Ingles Markets.
(16:15):
We got to take this break. We'll be back right
after this. The Tuesday edition of the Richmond Weavers Show
presented by Ingles Markets continues right here on one O
four nine Fox Sports Upstate and you can join the conversation.
The text line is always open eight six four triple
seven ninety five ninety three. Again that text line eight
(16:35):
six four triple seven ninety five ninety three, And this segment,
I want some participation on the text line. Okay, okay, okay, No,
you can't text right, steer me down on the okay,
one more time to all the investors, our listeners out there,
(16:56):
eight six four, triple seven, ninety five, ninety three, because
I'm gonna ask a question and I want some participation
on the text line about this question, as we do
have Marcus Brown in studio with us today right here
on this Tuesday edition of the Richmond Weaver Show presented
by Ingles Markets. He's the co founder of the Junkyard
Hit Studio with the locations here in Greenville, Malden, and Anderson,
(17:22):
and we're going to give you a little bit more
information in just a minute. But I wanted to talk
about because I saw this the best helmets in college football?
And this will definitely spark some interest because there's the
traditionalist traditional guys and there's the guys who follow more
of oh, let's go crazy, let's have hyped helmets, ay,
(17:47):
the alternative jerseys, all of that. So there could be
some polarizing I guess opinions here in terms of how
that plays out. So I did see the posts though,
and it was asking which is the best helmet in
college football? So that's why Texters get ready, not while
(18:07):
you're driving, but the numbers eight six y four, triple seven,
ninety five ninety three Texas your favorite helmet in college football?
So here this is according to ESPN. Here's some of
the best helmets according to their rankings, no particular order,
though they just listed them. Clemson is one, Okay, TCU
(18:32):
is one of the best helmets according to ESPN. Oregon,
Florida State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas. They
have SMU on here, and you see LA as one
of the best helmets here, and then they have the
(18:54):
other It's just says question mark. So they're asking people
who else? So off of those helmets, who else are
you putting on that list? If you had a vote here,
mister Marcus Brown.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
Let's see, they named some good ones. But I feel
like when it comes to some of these, like they
named a lot of the traditional ones, I don't know
if they had. Did they have PennState on there. No,
it's such a plain helmet. It's just their traditional, just
very strong helmet. But then I also think like if
you kind of get into like the alternatives of people
(19:28):
that switch it up a little bit, I think Arizona
State is popping in my mind for some reason. Yeah,
I feel like they always kind of have something unique
going on right there, and they have a pretty cool
looking helmet.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
Yeah, well they have the little devil they do that.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
Yeah, sometimes they just have just the fork on their
They do some different colors in their helmets, and so
I think they have a pretty strong showing when it
comes to some of the more like unique ones'll.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Throw out a little bit of a wild card here
we go, and it's it's very it's like a very
so designed. But I like Oregon State, like the beaver's
which is like the orange beaver on the side, solid
black like a Matt black helmet, and then I've seen
them with the orange stripe down the middle.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
I don't know, it's just super simple, it's clean. I
like it. Okay, see there's that's what it's interesting again.
You have different sides of the camp as far as
do you just like it clean? The traditional type of
look and like a Penn State, it's hard to argue
just how clean that is. And it's it's almost something
that you can immediately identify. Yeah, yeah, and I think
(20:28):
that's part of it. Also. Text Us Your Thoughts eight
six' four triple seven ninety, five ninety, three and we
did Have chad the vinding. King he texted in, Saying
clemson the orange one with the White, Paul, yes the
traditional that's, Right, yeah that's the. Classic AND i think also,
(20:50):
though WHEN i look at, helmets AND i Know michigan's
on this, list AND i remember as a kid growing,
up and this was BEFORE i became A clemson, fan
was early on in my, childhood AND i remember having
the vision OF i shouldn't say, vision it sounds Like
i'm creating some drama, storytelling, Right BUT i remember seeing
(21:15):
THE tv screen and of all, people it Was Jim
harball and he was playing For. Michigan, yeah and just
That michigan helmet with the unique, design, yes. Exactly AND
i was, like, well that's pretty cool BECAUSE i hadn't seen.
That that was the first image or first visual THAT
(21:36):
i remember of a college football, helmet AND i thought
it was just so unique and so, cool and SO
i think that is one of the best helmets in
all of college. Football. NOW i also would agree With
chad that it's hard to argue The Clemson tiger.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
Helmet, OH i mean, what it's never changed anything that
has been.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
The same the whole, time, Exactly so again going back
to the, tradition, traditions the Same alabama was not on.
Here some people will talk About alabama and their helmet.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
Very traditional one as, well WHICH i think, again if
you go based on, tradition it's like not just the,
look but how long they've been doing, it like has
it ever, changed and just the simplicity of. It BUT
i don't love the number on the side of the.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
Helmet, YEAH i don't like. That and it's only one, side, yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Because then it's like every helmet's. Different you already got
your number on your. JERSEY i don't need it.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
On your helmet because we can identify.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
It we know what number you. Are you got you got, three,
three and then three on helmet. Two i'm, LIKE i mean.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
Too much for. Me what About Ohio?
Speaker 2 (22:39):
STATE i like it once it has all the stickers on.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
It, yeah with all of the buck guys on. There,
yeah there there is something that's a little different With
Ohio state and how their. TRADITION i, know schools have
their own unique way of you, know the rewarding the
players for, uh you, know big. Plays however they're graded
and that's the way you, know with the with the
buck guys on, there And clemson used to do The Tiger,
(23:05):
pauls you, know all of, that the little small ones,
there so that is. Unique the other side of the
equation is when they go crazy Like. Organs So organ's
on this, list But i'm, like, well wait a say
Which orgon? Helmet what is the? Helmet because you're talking
about alternative helmets or alternative.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
Uniforms they wear a different one every.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
Game, yes and as a player from your playing, days
would you want different? HELMETS i, mean did you LIKE
i like aspect of.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
IT i liked it for, sure just because it's like
it's a new surprise every. Game it's like it kind of.
AGAIN i think it brings a little bit of swagger
and energy to. It so, like as a, PLAYER i
would have enjoyed the different helmet and uniform every single.
Game LIKE i think that's cool stuff because you get
to wear different things and it's, Like, okay how CAN
(24:01):
i like make this look? Good but also at the same,
TIME i can see it being in distraction because people
are more worried about how you look.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Plus, Exactly but what if it feels? Different does it
ever feel? Different you put on an alternate.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
Helmet well it. COULD i MEAN i feel, like you,
know some of the schools they probably do pretty good
at getting the Same but that is something to say too,
Though like wearing that same helmet every. Day yeah it feels.
Good you, know you got the right smell to it
and everything it.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
Matters, yeah that's, Right, yeah there is something to. That
let us know your. Thoughts the text line is open
eight six' four triple seven ninety five, ninety three what's
your favorite helmet in all of? College football and we
Do Have hunter bruce actually yeh texting in, and Says
tu lane's. Alternate greens so here. We, go yeah it's
(24:47):
going into the alternative side of things and being a little.
Bit DIFFERENT and i think there's certain schools that lend
itself that they can. Do that and, THAT'S why, I
Mean penn state's never going to do anything, like THAT
and i Don't think clemson will ever do anything like,
that either although you see it all over. The place
(25:11):
people were creative and come up with their own mockups
of what some of the alternative helmets you would. Look
LIKE and i am intrigued by some of.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
Those Stuff like i've seen a couple Like purple clemson
helmets and things like that that look pretty cool with
the chrome. And whatnot, BUT yeah, i, think ye the
chrome is.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
Pretty, Cool okay, and okay so now this is jumping
TO the nfl just a. Little bit But now i'm
trying to remember which team, it was and maybe You
know Trey, or marcus but they just recently showcased potential.
Alternative helmet but it was looking like the old school.
(25:50):
Leather helmets oh was It? The, Commanders no i'm trying. To,
REMEMBER well i HAVE to.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
I think it Was the it Was either commanders or.
Speaker 1 (26:02):
It might have Been. The, commanders OKAY so.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
I saw it, for sure or could was It the
still It wasn't steelers, Was.
Speaker 1 (26:09):
Yellowkay but which was very interesting that you WOULD have,
i mean obviously it doesn't look exactly like their Helmet. The,
packers yes so it Is the packers, because, yeah, Yeah
yeah and it seemed like some of the players, were, like,
OH yeah i love. These, things yeah it looks a.
(26:29):
Little different nobody on the radio Can see. Trey's face
he was not a fan.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
OF that i think it's, just again it's just that
getting to wear. Something DIFFERENT, the nfl they're, very yea
and there's, you know there's some good, WITH that, I think,
BUT yeah i think as, a player you enjoy kind
of getting to wear something different every now.
Speaker 1 (26:52):
And then, all right so we did have some textures jumping. In,
texture oh, ninety five, Ninety, three okay there. We go
is the last four of the same The mud, dog's
helmet and. That's Nostalgic Nice adam sandler reference. Right there
and we Also have texter forty two seventy eight jack
(27:16):
TEXTED in B why. U's, helmet again that's a very
traditional type. Of HELMET and i wonder also how this
will continue moving forward with helmets and some of, the
design but also where helmets might be going in terms
of Like the guardian cap and will we see more
(27:40):
players Wearing the guardian caps because it's optional IN. The nfl, right,
NOW now i see your face as a former player
from an, image, standpoint well.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
THAT image, i mean they, look weird but. THEY'RE heavy
i think IT'S like, i mean, IF anything i, feel,
like yeah it's supposed to help, with concussions but you
know that comes from your NECK and i, feel like,
you know a. Heavier, head, YEAH yeah I don't. I
don't i would have never. Woron one, No chance and
if they made a man.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
Just because you felt the heaviness or image, Or, both.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
No just like the heaviness and, it's hot, you know
it's covering up all the holes on top of, the,
thing like, No Chance like i've only ever put, one on,
just ONCE and i, Was like i'll never.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
Wear, This CHANCE well i. Would Be i'm i'm interested
to see where, this goes where the, technology GOES because
i do believe there's going to be, more advancements for
sure in. The equipment and maybe it's not a guardian
cap that, they're WEARING but i do think there's going to.
Be SOMETHING and i remember, years ago this WAS when
(28:43):
i was in med device and was at a. Neurosurgeon, conference, yes,
okay yeah a little bit different, THAN yeah i can tell.
You that but it was so fascinating because they were
talking about concussions because that's they obviously work on the brain,
and spine and so they were talking about concussions and
(29:03):
trying to develop different technologies that can help concussions when
you're talking about impact sports and, especially football and they,
studied woodpeckers and the crazy thing about woodpeckers is that
they have a unique way of protecting their brain when
(29:24):
they're hammering into. A tree so what happens is their
tongue actually goes up inside. Their head there's a groove
that's inside their head that creates an extra layer of
padding from their quote unquote skull to. Their brain and
(29:44):
so their tongue is their protective layer when, they're, again right,
you know hammering into. THE tree i think we're a
ways away from that before we get. To that that
just blows my, mind though again just Nature and god
AND how i, MEAN again i look at the. Human
(30:06):
body it's the greatest machine. Ever built, oh yeah, you
know and so when you hear of those type of.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
Things based, ON that i don't know if we were
built to. Play, football.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
Yeah we do need a little. Extra protection, but again
join the conversation eight six' four triple seven ninety, five
ninety three what's your best helmet in all? Of College
football And shawn texted, Den And. Said, Florida State hey
florida state is a tough. One to beat it's.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
A good one i think they have like a black
alternative one that is clean that They're all black jersey
uniform combo might be one.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
Of my.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
FAVORITE oh interesting i might have Grew, up IN clemson
but i learned to chop at. A, Young, age okay.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
Hey, that, happens yes say sometimes your allegiances can they
can meander just, a little, bit you know but you
always come. Back to, HOME yeah right i always got
to go. Back to. Home all right we're going To

core cardio we got a.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
Good one tomorrow oh?
Speaker 1 (33:06):
Who designed it? This? One's Mine oh another matt, Scientist, over,
there yes, sir that's. Right All. Right travis hunter as
much As Talk, ABOUT shador sanders i get, All Of That,
but travis hunter is he not one of the STORYLINES
of the? Nfl this season? HAS to, be i mean
a player coming Off of a heisman winning season as
(33:30):
a two way player and a big time impactful two
way player on the college Level there in colorado. In,
a while yes so can he have that type of
success or how are we going to Measure Success for
travis hunter? His Rookie season and, i'm just Curious will
the jaguars truly try to play him both ways for
(33:53):
both sides.
Speaker 2 (33:53):
Of, THE ball yeah i mean from the looks of
it as, of, right NOW yes but i, think you
know this is priest season and that is what it.
Is right coming when when it really comes crunch time
and they're in, THE regular season i don't know if
that'll be the case, In MY mind, like i said
we talked about, a LITTLE bit but. I don't, KNOW
i mean i think that using him for one side
(34:16):
of the ball maybe have a little bit more of
impact than then using them in specific. Packages or somebody BECAUSE,
IN the, nfl i mean it's hard to doubt The
man because i'm sure people have told him, all, his,
career like oh you can't play when you get to
when you get, to high school there's no way you're
gonna be able to play both. Sides of ball he probably,
did it well. He did, it you know when you, get,
to college oh you're not gonna be able to play
Both Sides, or jackson, state you know and it's like
(34:36):
when You, get to colorado able to do? That all right,
so you know same thing when you GET, To the
nfl you're not gonna be able to play both sides.
Of a ball will? He? Do it, probably you know
so it's like, hard to, say you know doubt him,
in that area but, just you know, outside looking in
like just for longevity in. His own, health you know
that's a lot of hits you're taking on both sides of.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
The ball TREE it's.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
THE nfl exactly i, was gonna say it's a totally
different step UP from the nfl to OR to the
nfl from college and. THOSE other steps i was, gonna
ASK you and i think you, mostly covered it but from,
a PLAYER'S perspective BECAUSE i think i saw where he
was playing when He, was at colorado like one hundred plus. Snaps,
a game yes what does that do? As a player
like from your, OWN experience.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
Playing i mean it'll, Wear YOU down, like, i mean
yeah a. Couple of, weeks you know you might be
good and your recovery, is all right, but you know
you get that, one hit okay then it's like you
still feel a little bit, the, next week right and
then you get, hitting there again, or you know the
wear and tear on your body is going to be.
DETRIMENTAL for him i think, playing both ways.
Speaker 1 (35:31):
What about on a short week where you play Like
maybe a Sunday.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
And, a, thursday well, yeah and see and that's really
that's really where it's gonna, come to play, Because, it's,
Like okay yeah i'm, able To play but i'm only
at seventy percent or, something like that and so that's a.
Lot of hits and then you're, spending you know most
of your week recovering rather. Than, getting better yeah so
it's like you're just fighting your hardest just to get
back to like, where you were rather than some of
these other players that are playing just one side, of
(35:53):
the ball they're gonna be able, to you know get
a little healthier each week and. Kind of, PROGRESS so yeah,
i don't know playing both sides the ball is gonna.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
Be very tough and obviously we haven't seen it Done
really since dion as far as a consistent type of.
Two Way player and dion it wasn't that he did that.
Every single season it, was you know really one true
season There with the cowboys that he played a significant amount.
At wide receiver now you can look, at you, know punt,
team you know kickoff team and you, know all that,
(36:21):
but that's different that's, not You Know, AND.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
Travis HUNDER i mean i could BE saying about i
don't he doesn't really do a lot, of special teams
like you. Don't, See, him no no he doesn't strictly.
Speaker 1 (36:30):
Wide.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
Receiver, corners yeah yeah so that's that's. A, Difference too.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
Yeah and so i'm anxious To see how jacksonville will
grade him out as far as is he better on,
the defensive side, or you know will he help us
more on the defensive side versus, the OFFENSIVE side Because
I know trevor lawrence, is, already, SAYING hey man i
want you on this offensive side to.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
Catch, SOME passes YEAH i Think i think i've seen
a quote where, he was, like you know on, the
offense side you're gonna you're guaranteed, get the, ball you
know a certain amount of times worth throwing. It right,
out whereas, defense you know you might get a couple of,
targets A game because i think this past reason game it,
Was ZERO targets so i don't think he had any
pass to play because they. Didn't. Target him done, SO
you know.
Speaker 3 (37:11):
I am curious, to SEE too, because I think like
i look at the level of competition that he may
have Played, there At colorado and i'm not. DOUBTING his
abilities i think, he CAN play and i think he
looks like he's going to TRANSLATE. In THE nfl but,
i will say You're Looking. At travis hunter we look
at him as, a generational player and he's. Doing great
things you've got A leak a omanar who went in,
the fourth round who's a wide receiver that put up
almost two hundred and fifty point or two.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
Hundred Fifty Yards against travis.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
Hunter COVERING him so i look at it, From that,
perspective i'm like would it be better instead of trying
to play both sides, of the ball specialize, in one category?
Speaker 1 (37:41):
Find your lane would that serve? The team Better.
Speaker 3 (37:44):
You get Jacksonville it's like i'm Looking At, him, trevor lawrence,
like all right he's all right on this side, Of
the ball but does he serve me well? As A
cornerback what i want him more as a wide receiver. As,
A weapon yeah AND that's Where I think. Liam cohne
is that's where, my point was how are they going
to grade? Him out right as, far as yes he
will impact this team giving us a better chance of
(38:07):
winning on the defensive side or. The, Offensive side right
AND from, WHAT i saw i do feel That he's
and i'm, torn On this so i'm really waffling. Down
This fence so i'm going to. Make a decision i'm
going to lean more on. The defensive side It is
(38:29):
where I'M going that i think he could have, a
Bigger impact right and that is not saying you can't
take that out of, context, and, say oh well he's
not a, good wide receiver not saying. That at all
I'M saying that i would give him just a little
bit of the edge on that defensive side because some
of the plays he made a defensively.
Speaker 2 (38:50):
And if you have a guy a shut down corner
that takes that takes a way half of the field right,
there by himself and that that frees up so many
other people where that impact. Can BE huge so i
think he's like he could definitely be a good insurance
blanket for the, team of like hey play, them on defense,
but you know if somebody, goes down offense you have
this extremely good right backup that you. Can put in
(39:11):
use them in special packages like, you were saying you,
KNOW on this i mean like goal line or, something,
like that maybe or like certain down and DISTANCES like
because i mean he's going to pull people away from
the play regardless because they have to respect him being
on the field and knowing where he's at.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
At All times right but at the end, of the
Day If, YOU'RE travis, hunter i mean you KNOW how,
The nfl is it's. Not for long which? One pays
more does it pay more to be? A wide receiver
does it pay more to? Be a quarterback.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
That might make, that for me might make the decision that.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
Can make them that could be a very big.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
Decision right there anytime there's a question and you're trying
to figure out what the answer is or what the
root of the, answer, might, be, money money money one
of those that you. Can, categorize it yeah so money
would definitely be a factor. Into This, Equation all right

of history what happened.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
On this day let's go back in history to the
moments you might have forgotten and the ones.
Speaker 1 (41:12):
You'll NEVER forget it's otd. On this day back in two,
thousand And Seven mister tiger woods WOULD Win the pga
championship to win at least one major for the, third
straight season and he would run his career total to
thirteen majors. At that point but then, in twenty eleven,
(41:35):
On This date tiger woods would miss the CUT For
the pga Championship there in atlanta with a final seventy
three on The, day on friday and he finishes out
of the top one hundred for the first time ever. In,
a major yeah so that was a big day that
he was a night To. Day, for tigers yes it was.
Twenty AND twelve the us men's basketball team would win
(41:58):
the Gold medal versus Spain in the Olympics there in
london with a one oh seven to. One, hundred victory
again it was The second straight OLYMPIC championship and. I
don't care nobody was like. THE dream team i get,
THAT right now i do this past season or The,
LAST year olympics I Should say steph curry and what
(42:20):
he was able to do in that gold medal. Game
was phenomenal but the twenty twelve team did also win,
the gold medal and also, In twenty twelve rory McIlroy
WOULD Break the pga championship record for margin Of Victory
that jack nicholas set back, in nineteen eighty as he
would finish with a six hundred sixty six and he
(42:42):
had played bogey free over the final twenty three holes to.
Win that, major all RIGHT that is otd and That
is this Tuesday Edition Of The, richmond weaver Show Presented.
By ingles markets we'll talk. To you tomorrow
