Speaker 1 (00:01):
Exploring the latest headlines and in depth conversations. It's the
Richmond Weavers Show on one oh four nine Fox Sports
Substate presented by Ingles Low Prices, Love the Savings, Now
for riches take on sports. Here's Richmond Weaver.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Ready to roll this Tuesday right here on one O
four nine Fox Sports Upstate and we are in full
force on this Tuesday edition of The Richmond Weaver Show
presented by Ingles Markets. Mister Trey Falco behind the board
and behind the mic as always.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
A jam packed studio.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Oh yeah, mister Darren Angel from the Weisch Law Firm,
Truth or truth or Darren is with us here on
this Tuesday edition. And we also have Miguel joining us
as well as he's got his headphones on.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
He's learning the board.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
Yeah yeah, yes, well.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
He's doing absolutely fantastic jobs.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
So I know there's days that mister Falco might not
be here and sometimes when I'm trying to run the board.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Fine, yeah, we're laughing and there we go. Yeah you're fine. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
I've always wondered about the word fine, fine and how
it's it's defined and fine, how it's defined, because my
wife will say that too, that oh it's fine. Wait
is that negative?
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Is that?
Speaker 2 (01:19):
I mean? I want to hear like, oh, it's great. Yes,
I love that. Yes, I like that, but it's fine.
That's like it'll do. Yes, Well, there we go. Okay,
you're game manager.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
I'm game man exactly. I'm a game manager. I love that. Yes.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Hey, there's some great quarterbacks in the NFL that have
been labeled game managers and that have won Super Bowls.
So I will use that as a positive game manager
serviceable however it might be defined.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Yes, So we will take that and run with it.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
And that's what we're doing right here on this Tuesday
edition of The Richmond Weavers Show, presented by our good
friends at Ingles Markets. July first, this is a a
seminal day in history, not because of necessarily college athletics
and how it's changing and amateurism is dead, but also
as I make a little joke here that yes, we
(02:12):
are doing something a little bit different that we now
have two hours of the Richmond we Show presented by
Ingles Markets. The first hour is available podcast only version,
so you do have the opportunity to go listen to
a little bit more in depth analysis, a little bit
longer discussions about certain topics. And we've had some texters
(02:34):
that have asked us, hey, is there a way you know,
to do a two hour show? And and I know
Neil has called in and said that as well, and
even Billy has complemented us on the show and you know,
trying to entertain and you know, and also provide some
analysis and opinions and also just some an education standpoint
(02:56):
and obviously an entertainment standpoint. And so Trey and I
were talking in that, hey, let's look at an opportunity
of being able to do an extra hour and we
don't have it on the live radio as of yet, right,
but who knows, maybe down the road we can be
able to present that and have that option as well.
But for now, we do have an extra hour of
(03:18):
the Richmond Weaver Show presented by Ingles Markets via podcast
So you can find that wherever you get your podcasts.
And the easy way the iHeartRadio app, Oh super easy,
I promise you presets all of that, and all you
have to do is just download that through the app
store or on Google Play. And once you have the
iHeartRadio app there on your phone your little handheld computer,
(03:40):
just search the Richmond Weaver Show or Fox Sports Upstate
and then you can find the station and then you
can program your presets there and even the Richmond Weaver
Show podcast, and you'll be able to listen to both
hours via podcast because you might not be able to
listen live. I know how it is. Life is life
and you're moving one hundred miles per hour. But we
do have some bonus material, so to speak, in the
(04:02):
podcast hour, so make sure you check that out and
we'll continue to be able to promote that. But we
are live right now each and every weekday three pm
to four pm, and we want you to join the
conversation eight six four two four zero five four eight zero.
Again that number is eight six four two four zero
five four eight zero. And also remember stay tuned because
(04:25):
we will be given away a twenty five dollars gift card.
That's right Autobil Car Wash here in the Upstate, So
we will be doing that. But you got to have
your thinking cap on trivia question. You have to be
able to answer the trivia question. And we had some
people attempt last Friday, did Trey, but nobody got the
question right.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
I think you're about you've almost got a dial there.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
I know, I think I might have, and so I'm
actually going to use the same question that it did
on Friday.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Oh okay, yeah, because I want.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
To see if the and again, I know you can
go out there and find it through Google Search, elect
Siri whatever.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
I get that.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
I do understand that, but I still hold that there's
people out there they want to get it without having
to go search for it. It's that pride, I know, sports
I want to get this answer correctly.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
So I do think there's some of that. So make
sure you stay tuned.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Coming up later this hour, we will have you connect
through the text line, and that text line is eight
six' four triple seven ninety five ninety three for an
opportunity to answer a trivia question and then be able
to win an autobill twenty five dollars gift card for
car wash here in The. Upstate all, right SO i
(05:39):
did joke About july. First, yes obviously we're excited that
we have the opportunity for additional podcast hour here on
The Richmond Weavers, show presented By Ingles, markets but Also.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Darren that's why it's great that you're here in.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Studio As College athletics has definitely. Changed as we, know
amateurism is, dead And i'm not saying it in such
a negative. Way i'm just saying, that, hey, now this
is everything that we were talking about with The house,
settlement that everything that was agreed, upon it goes into
Effect july, first and that's.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Today and this is a big moment in sports.
Speaker 5 (06:17):
History it, IS i, mean it's go time like.
Speaker 6 (06:19):
This everything is starting today that hadn't retroactively started as
it relates to revenue sharing and obviously the third party
innil deals that will be submitted to the nil go,
platform and so it.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
Is it's a seminal day For Cleegiate.
Speaker 6 (06:38):
Athletics probably a day that we'll talk, about you, know
we mentioned this in the first. Hour probably a day
we'll talk about for the next you, know we'll talk
about in fifty. Years because it's the first time ever
that schools can now pay student athletes directly directly for their,
name image and.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
Likeness, yes and there's the revenue sharing opportunity that is,
happening and so that's why we have to be careful
and we talk about it in the first. Hour so
if you want more of that in depth type of,
conversation make sure you go check it out via the podcast.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Option and it's that we've got to be careful.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
That we're not PUTTING nil and the rev share into
the same bucket because they are two distinct. Entities now
they're obviously. Combined we get, that and we do understand.
That but this is now we are able to move
into this pay for. Play this is what's so significant
is that not only are the universities having that opportunity FOR,
(07:34):
nil but this revenue sharing is happening because that's different THAN.
Speaker 6 (07:38):
Innil, YEAH i, mean you obviously have your kind of
traditional third PARTY nil deals that you would think about,
previously that you'd have with your you, know your collective
or a, brand whether they're just.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
An endorsement deal.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Exactly that's why we get so confused about THIS nil
and or is IT NL, i you, know not a
national letter of. Intent you, know it's, like come, on
can let's let's think of. Something just call it. Endorsements
BUT i get. It it is obviously true, name image and.
Likeness but that's that's what it. Is it's about. Endorsements
and that's, why if, anything at least we can get
(08:14):
to a point where doesn't have to be so you,
know in the uh back corner of the, room these
deals getting, done you, know in the. Alleyways and now
we could say that maybe one of the unintended consequences
of this in our nil go uh you, know clearing,
(08:34):
house we could be back in that same type of
scenario because maybe people are not going to report exactly
all of the deals and they're going to have some
shady deals going. On so we've got to be very
careful you know about. That but this is you, know
that's why at Least i'm hoping we can get to
the point and that's that's the, keyword hope that we
(08:56):
can get to the point is that we can truly
you IN i l as true endorsement deals for, brands
so you can see a star athlete in college be
able to, say, YES i really like A rolex watch
or you, know you, KNOW i like you, Know nike
or whatever is because that's what we traditionally, see you
(09:19):
know with, obviously professional athletes see it all the, Time campbell's,
soup Right State, farm you, know all of, those you,
know opportunities where you can have a professional, Athlete but
now can you have a college athlete that's on a
commercial in being able to earn money through their stardom
that they earned by being a star in their particular.
Speaker 7 (09:39):
Sport, Right AND i think the distinction you just, MADE
i still don't understand. It you just, said, well a
professional athlete compared to a college.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
Athlete and you, KNOW i still go back to.
Speaker 7 (09:51):
THE, UFL, usfl whatever we're calling it right, now the minor,
leagues for the for THE. NFL i still say WHEN
i watch a college, broadcast WHEN i watch C limpson
On saturdays Or, carolina they look more professional to me
from a broadcasting. Standpoint from an on field, perspective they
look more like professional athletes than What i'm seeing in
the quote unquote minor leagues that aren't playing in THE.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
Nfl, yeah there's no question that you because they're bigger.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
Stars he, Yes, yes they're more household.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
Names they're more household. Names how is that not?
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Professional it, Is but we don't want to claim it
that way because for the past fifty plus years and
even longer than, that we know one hundred years amateurism.
Yep and you can't be a, professional or you can't
be an amateur and earn, money right, then all of a,
(10:44):
sudden you're a.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Professional but isn't.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
It you're a professional because you get paid to play the,
game not that you get paid because of your stardom
from the. Game, right that's an indirect. Correlation AND i
understand it's, connected because you can't become a star unless
you perform on the field or on the court or
(11:09):
whatever arena that you're. IN i get, that, Right but
you're still not being paid necessarily to go play that
particular game right. Now some people, say, oh yes they.
Are they got, scholarship they got. Housing, well that's that's.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Being paid to. Play, well then at that point they're a.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Professional so you're trying to say they're not professional and
don't understand it.
Speaker 7 (11:33):
To your, point, like let's just take sports out of, It,
like let's take the whole college aspect out of. It
let's Say Richmond weaver is a really good. Woodworker let's
say you're really popular On instagram as a. Woodworker oh,
yes and somebody comes to you and, says, HEY i
just really want to give you five hundred dollars to
talk about my. Product they're not paying you to make
use your hands to make. Wood they're just Saying, hey
we know, you we know Which Richmond weaver people know.
(11:55):
You here's five hundred dollars talk about my. Product you're
not getting paid to make a. Prod you're getting paid
to talk about. It it's the same thing with the college.
Athletes they're not getting paid to step out on the.
Field they just happen to be known for being a
football player or basketball or whatever the sport.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Is, yes, now The weavers might not be great, woodworkers
but we are one hell of a.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
SOCKMAKER i should, yes as we can, LEAVE i promise.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
You oh, Yes but your point is very well taken,
there and that's where we're trying to get. To and
that's why again going back to, hey things change in,
society things change in the, world and let's don't view.
This AND i KNOW i said college athletics amateurism is
(12:39):
dead and that sounds so, negative and you know that's
not HOW i try to view the, world not to, say,
hey everybody dips into a little bit of an ebb
and into a valley a particular day or, time, month,
year whatever it is season of. Life that just. Happens
because life can be hard at. Times but in a,
(12:59):
reality let's try to view this as a. Positive, yeah
for college. Athletics hopefully this is an opportunity of that
the entire college athletic ecosystem is lifted up because things
are going to. Change does it mean it's going to be.
Perfect there's no perfect thing that humans have been able to.
(13:23):
Build AND i do think, though that we have the
opportunity to now let's embrace some of this and let's
try to do the things that can be better meant
for the entire entity.
Speaker 6 (13:38):
Itself, Yeah AND i think you bring up a really
good point there in that we as a, society and
we've talked talked about this before on the, show we
as a society love to try to find the negatives
and bring stuff. DOWN i think this is an incredible
opportunity To, yes we need to understand where the pitfalls
are and where we need to adjust to be. Better but,
(14:00):
man this is an opportunity to really advance kids lives
for the, future to build a better product overall for
the fans and the, universities and potentially an opportunity to
also make universities as a whole, better many of which are,
(14:21):
struggling you, know financially right. NOW i think that we
can use this as a tool to just to grow
into so much into a so much better spot than
we have been for the for the recent. Future let's
figure out those avenues as opposed to just continue to
pick holes in. It AND i do think at the
end of the, day this is a net. Positive, yeah
(14:42):
we we can talk about it till we're blue in the.
Face that's, right some, negatives but this isn't net positive
at the end of.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
The day's net. POSITIVE i do like. That let's keep
it that.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
Way you can join the conversation eight six four two
four zero five four eight.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
Zero let us know your.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
Thoughts july here big day in college athletics as The
house settlement that all of the items that were agreed
upon go into effect as of.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
Today SO i.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Know there's a lot of, universities a lot of, coaches
a lot of athletic. Administrators they're scrambling a little. Bit
they're trying to figure all of this. Out, hey AND
i get it in from a fan. Perspective just be
patient again because at the end of the, day it
might look different how the athletes and coaches get to the,
field get to the. Court but once it's, kickoff once
(15:32):
it's tip. Off we're going to love the sport, yep
just like we always. HAVE i promise you. Will but
let us know your thoughts as we'll continue This tuesday
edition Of The Richmond Weaver show presented By Ingles markets
right after this live from The Ingles studios in Downtown
greenville right here On North Main. Street this since The
(15:54):
tuesday edition of The Richmond Weaver show presented by our
good friends At Ingles, markets and make sure you get
out to your Local ingles as we are getting ready
For july. Fourth this is an absolutely fantastic part of the.
Year get to celebrate the birth Of america and all
of the things that we were talking, about free market,
capitalism everything from that, perspective that's What.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
America is all. About it's in OUR, dna. Right we
love this type of.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
Stuff so that's WHY i think we need to celebrate
that this is a path forward with college athletics and
that we're still going to enjoy, it and this is
an opportunity for the betterment of college. Athletes AND i,
know again there can be those naysayers, that oh, no
they shouldn't be earning that type of money that young
and you know the damage that can be.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
Done, well there's.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Also the flip, side the positive side that can, happen,
right you, know being able to do, That so you
do have that and we'll dive a.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
Little bit more into.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
That but as we get ready For july, fourth being
able to celebrate the birth Of, america make sure you
get out to your Local ingles because you might need some,
supplies some, groceries all of those things that you need
for cookouts For july. Fourth And ingles has everything that
you want and even more because you can save money
inside the store and even at the gas pump with
(17:09):
The ingles advantage. Card so make sure you check out
your Local, ingles all. Right the other THING i wanted
to make sure that we're able to continue what we've been,
doing and that's The autobil twenty five dollars gift card,
giveaway and that's part of the trivia question that we
have each. Day so it's twenty five dollars To autobil car.
(17:30):
Wash here in The, upstate there's one In. Career there's
one On Woodruff, road and just make sure you don't
go there on A friday around five point. Thirty, no of,
course you can go any time you want. To that's
a beauty because you've got twenty five?
Speaker 3 (17:42):
Dollars is your?
Speaker 2 (17:43):
Time, yes just knowing that you might hit a little
bit of, traffic but maybe not so much of This
friday because It's july, fourth so it might be a
little bit easier to navigate This friday since people will
be celebrating the fourth Of. July all, right but the trivia,
question so we had several people text in On, friday
but they didn't get the right. Answer so this might
(18:05):
be something that's stumping a few people out there or
the other side to. It And i'm trying not to
think in these, terms, tray but they might be, Saying,
OH i don't, CARE i don't even care about THE nba.
Question you're talking About Michael jordan The goad know who
cares about. That but we'll see if we can get
an answer for this and to give away that twenty
five dollars gift card To Auto bell Car.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
Wash all, Right so here's the, question.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
Starting with the nineteen eighty six eighty SEVEN nba season
all the way to the nineteen ninety seven nineteen ninety eight,
season which technically is twelve years OF nba Season Michael
jordan led THE nba in ten of those twelve years in,
(18:50):
scoring so he won the scoring title ten out of
those twelve. Years the question is who are the other
two players that won the scoring? Title there's two players
that won scoring titles in that twelve year period outside
Of Michael, jordan so you have to get both of.
Them so you can text that in to eight six
(19:12):
Four triple seven ninety five ninety. Three, again that text
line is eight six four triple seven ninety five ninety
three for your opportunity to answer the trivia question for
a twenty five dollars gift card To Autobil Car. Wash so,
again the question is out of the twelve year period
from nineteen eighty six season to nineteen ninety seven season
(19:36):
in THE, Nba Michael jordan won scoring title ten years
out of those. Twelve who were the other TWO nba
players to win the scoring title in that twelve year, Period,
DARREN i see.
Speaker 7 (19:47):
Your gears turning Your you're going to play for. Fun
don't announce it on the. Air we can figure it
out in the. Break you can't, win that's.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
Right, no, yes studio can. Win nobody in studio can.
Win LOVE i love, This this is.
Speaker 8 (19:59):
Great.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
Yeah we had several people texting in last week and
they were getting one, yeah, correct but didn't get both
of them. Correct so that's the, caveat and that's why
this one's a little bit, harder just because you you
have to have both of them to be. Correct remember
the text line eight six four triple seven ninety five ninety,
three and who were the two players IN nba that
(20:22):
won scoring titles from the twelve year period nineteen eighty
six eighty seven season to the nineteen ninety seven ninety eight.
Season Michael jordan won ten of, those which is insane
that he won ten scoring titles in that twelve year,
period but two years he did not win the scoring.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
Title name those two.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
Players text it to eight six four triple seven ninety
five ninety three for your opportunity to win a twenty
five dollars gift card To autobil car. Wash all, right
while we're waiting for text to come, in the other
thing THAT i wanted to talk, about and this is
dovetails into college, Athletics and, yes we're going to get
(21:06):
to THE Nba free agencies and all of those moves
in just a little.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
Bit BUT i did want to talk.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
About THIS Ea College sports because this is fascinating to,
me and especially with everything going on with college athletics
right now and the changes that are. Occurring and we
know just, RECENTLY ea college football just came, back and
now the news is THAT Ea sports just announced yesterday
(21:35):
at college basketball is coming, back and so there's all
this excitement and we were talking during the break And,
darren you're all excited about THE ea college basketball coming.
Speaker 3 (21:47):
BACK i love.
Speaker 6 (21:48):
IT i, mean we used to literally travel in college
on road. Trips we'd bring A ps two And PlayStation
two and we'd BRING ncaa Mor badness whatever year it,
was and after shoot around or practice on we Play Thursday,
saturday and we'd go back to the hotel On friday
nights and we would have like we'd have you, know
(22:11):
we'd HAVE Ea March madness tournaments and you build. DYNASTIES
i mean it was.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Incredible, yeah so you grew up with.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
It.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
Yeah, Yeah so there's something already inherently in YOUR dna
that you're excited about. It, Okay and the REASON I
i'm looking at this Because i'm outside of, this So
I'M i missed that that was. BEFORE i MEAN i,
WAS i grew up well before you, know those type
of games really came into prominence, existence you know all of.
(22:43):
THAT i, Mean I'm i'm growing up On, atari growing
up On, palm yeah, yeah And i'm growing up on in,
television you. Know so those are you, know obscure, games
but those are the, ogs the, classics you. Know and
SO i look at, this, though and it fascinates me
not so much that there's a gravitational pull towards these,
(23:04):
games because the realism is off the. CHARTS i, mean
it is. Amazing, now it's still there's no WAY i
could play the games BECAUSE i don't know IF i
have the dexterity with my hands.
Speaker 3 (23:14):
To be able to we can get to do the controller.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
There but what fascinates me more is that how much
we are so fascinated by these, ratings and especially on
or in the college football, side to the point where
there are literally social media posts talking About Kate klubnik
(23:37):
is the highest RATED qb IN Ea College football twenty
six and you, Know brad New smeier AT lsu is number,
two And Lenora sellers, is you, know at number, five
and there's all of this jockey and around the, ratings
and Even Clemson, athletics my alma, mater put a host
(24:00):
out there saying THAT. Tj parker it's the number one
rated edge rusher IN ea twenty six And Peter woods
is the number one defensive tackle in ratings WITH ea twenty.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
Six And i'm, like, okay so we're at a.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
Point what we're pushing out this propaganda about video game,
ratings and that's supposed to now all of a sudden mean.
Something BUT i think there's something that this is the
way of the world, now and this is What i'm
talking about that, right things change and there are, times
(24:38):
yes you might hear some of the things That i'm
saying and it sounds like get off my, Lawn but
it's me just trying, To, okay let me evaluate this
and understand that things are changing and how we perceive
things and how we promote. Things AND i think this
is just another form of self promotion and you're wanting
(24:58):
more eyeballs on your content and being able to again
make It's propaganda's it sounds like a negative, word SO
i don't necessarily mean, propaganda but It's clemson and other
schools are doing it as.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
Well clemson is not the only.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
One it's just, that you, KNOW i Follow clemson ON, xo,
Right i'm in their algorithm That i'm going to see
what they. Post AND i was just, like, wow, okay
gone are the day that we would, actually you, know
promote that feels still or you know some riding himbers
voted you know a certain, player or you know A
(25:35):
kirk Kurb street said this is his. Rankings now we're
it's about video game rating and we're going to write
with that it's.
Speaker 7 (25:43):
Crazy first of, ALL i agree with, you just with
the fact, that, like it is crazy the amount of
attention we give to that kind of. THING i would,
ask AND i wonder what your opinion. Is don't you
already see it all the?
Speaker 4 (25:55):
Time? Anyways look AT, pff oh the highest Graded Edge
rutcher IN.
Speaker 7 (26:00):
Nfl like it's still they're taking stats and breaking them
down and giving them a. Score it's just now they're
taking it and putting it in a video game. FORM
i look at both of them And i'm, like, WELL
i MEAN i feel like it's still a little. Subjective
you got one guy that's AT pff, going, well this
is WHAT i, think AND i Think Miles garrett's better THAN.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
Tj. WATER i THINK.
Speaker 7 (26:16):
Tj watt's better Than Trey hendrickson or, whatever and there
are stats to back that. UP i think there are stats.
Too they have metrics that they they look at.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
When they interesting and See and that's WHY i love
having discussions and that's why IT'S i think it's so
important in relationships that you have discussions.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
So you can see other points of, view you can
see other.
Speaker 4 (26:34):
Perspectives BUT i do it is.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
WILD i have not thought of it in those terms that,
pff it's not a video. Game but are they not
utilizing the same type of stats right and developing some
type of, algorithms some type of grading system that we're
BECAUSE i guess my question is BECAUSE i don't know enough.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
On the video game side of, it right these.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
Ratings is it purely us stats that have happened out
on the, field or is IT? Ea are they taking
all of the games that have been played and developing you,
know is Kid klubnik is his stats based on?
Speaker 4 (27:16):
Everything like simulating?
Speaker 1 (27:18):
It?
Speaker 3 (27:18):
Yes simulating yes.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
Exactly so that would be my only, question AND i
don't know the answer to. THAT i, MEAN i would
think to your, Point, tray is that they're utilizing real.
STATS i think they have been plugging that in there
and that's what you have to go, with and that's
how you're developing these. RATINGS i would think that that's
how it. Goes and so to your, point is that
(27:40):
any different THAN, PFF i don't, know.
Speaker 7 (27:42):
BECAUSE i DON'T i understand With. Madden the Way madden
does it is they have guys that go out and
evaluate these players and they, LOOK i, mean there's a
whole like formula, algorithm so they can get. It that's
why you don't like when somebody's a ninety nine And
madden like that's huge because they're doing just off the chart.
Speaker 3 (27:58):
STUFF i would.
Speaker 7 (27:59):
Hope that they're doing the same thing and taking that
same amount of care towards the college football, aspect but who.
Speaker 4 (28:04):
KNOWS i.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
WOULD i would think that they would because one thing
THAT i think we strive for in life and especially
in sports is.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
Authenticity, right but we want everything to be.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
AUTHENTIC i want it to be true and that's why
we love it from a perspective of we don't know
what's going to, happen but we know that it wasn't. Scripted,
yes you, know it's, authentic it's, real and that's a
gravitational pool that we. Have SO i do hope AND
i would suspect it is because they've got a lot
(28:35):
of money invested into. It, yeah we definitely know. That
BUT i, also as you talk, about like The madden
ratings HOW nfl, players they'll come out in petition, like
what wait a, Second i've only got this.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
RATING i need this.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
Rating SO i don't know if they're doing that TO pff,
Right AND i will say, too AND i.
Speaker 7 (28:57):
DON'T i haven't heard anything about this all with A pff,
grade But i've. HEARD i think it was The jets
they passed On Jerry judy because his, son the owner's, son, said,
oh well His madden, rating it's just not so.
Speaker 4 (29:07):
Good that's where we're. At that's WHERE i look at.
Speaker 7 (29:09):
It i'm, like, okay look, like let's use the eyeball
test to see what's on the.
Speaker 4 (29:12):
Field we don't need A madden.
Speaker 7 (29:13):
Rating we don't need A pff rating that can get
you kind of in the.
Speaker 4 (29:16):
Ballpark maybe, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
AND i DON'T i don't know IF i need a
nineteen twenty one year Old johnson that has you, know
been watching video games and evaluating players off of how they're.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
Playing on a video. GAME i want guys that have
been in the.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
Trenches and, again Yes i'm NOT i would never exclude.
Youth there's something about the energy from, youth and sometimes
there's people that just haven't and their talent is, there oh,
yeah even at an early. Age but you can't substitute
experience either that you've been in, it you've lived, it
(29:56):
you've been, coached you've been. Trained you you, know have
a better eye of you know what to look. For
and as we know THE, nfl though they've got a. Formula,
oh they know what they're. Doing they know what they're looking.
For and that's why you see some of these quarterbacks
and this is a little bit of a, tangent but
you see some of these quarterbacks that will have an
(30:17):
amazing season like their first, year our first few, games
first eight games of the, season and then THE ebb
hits because guess, what there's film on them now and
there's an opportunity for guys to break down their, tendencies
break down their film and figure out, oh when he you,
(30:39):
know throws HIS i don't know when he.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
Steps with him up with the. Sack he always rolls
to his.
Speaker 3 (30:44):
Left, yes, exactly whatever it, is that's.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Right, Yes and they hindpoint that type of accuracy because
they know what they're looking for. Exactly they know what
those tendent, players, yes, exactly and the good, evaluators the
good scouts and you, know all that good. Organization and
that's why you see some organizations are better than others
because they have a better front, office because they have
a totality from that, perspective and SO i just think
(31:10):
there's that it's a different scenario that we're in these,
days that, yeah where it's more about the self promotion
and getting eyeballs on your, brand your, content.
Speaker 3 (31:23):
Because anything you can do to get a little bit
of an, edge.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
Yep because if you can get a little bit of an,
edge maybe you get that five star, guy maybe you
get more attendance at your, university whatever it might.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
Be it's about building your.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
Brand and that's just different than what we've seen over
the past one hundred years in. History it's becoming more
and more about building a. Brand and so AS i, Say,
clemson you, know sending out, propaganda it might not be,
propaganda but they're just trying to. Highlight, hey you, know
we know a lot of people are into, this and
so we're going to make a strategic. Move we'll jump
(32:01):
in to that side of the pool also and swim
with you. That, hey if you're going to be playing this,
game you want the number one edge, rusher you want
the number one, quarterback you want the number one defensive.
Tackle you need to Pick clemson as your team to
play great. Marketing, yeah so there's. Something it's just a different, World.
Speaker 6 (32:20):
Darren you're keeping yourself in the you, KNOW i mean
probably news isn't the right, word but you're keeping yourself
in the news, cycle.
Speaker 5 (32:25):
RIGHT i, mean got to be.
Speaker 6 (32:26):
Relevant if you're on social you're constantly popping up when
people are logging.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
On and that's the other. THING i, mean there is.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
Something they're looking, for new content each and every, day
each and every, hour something else to keep going in that.
Speaker 5 (32:42):
Algorithm if you look at especially the biggest programs in the,
COUNTRY i, mean it is, constant multiple times a, Day,
yes something.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
Something is being, out something's being. Posted, yeah and it.
Speaker 6 (32:56):
Ranges some do it better than, others BUT i mean
it ranges all over the map of what it might.
Be but they are constantly staying in your, feet no.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
Question all, right let's head out to The ingles hot
line eight six four two four zero five four eight,
zero The Richmond Weavers.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
Show who's?
Speaker 8 (33:10):
This what's? Up, Guys just to give you a little
idea of how detailed those games. Are, now BECAUSE i
still play college, football AND i didn't Play madden last,
year but college football took all my. Time But i've
Played madden every year up until, that and this has
been going on since the online gaming. Started and this
(33:33):
is true also with college. FOOTBALL i can tell you
that for a, fact this is how detail oriented they.
Are you guys are right about how they come up
with their, ratings but then as the season plays, out
they are so detail oriented that they'll take those those
stats that are ongoing from week to week and adjust
(33:53):
those players' ratings on. That for, Instance SEILLERS i think
was like a seventy seven or set tight last year
at the beginning of the, season may have been lower than.
That by the end of the year he WAS i
think ninety or ninety.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
One that's a significant, jump, Yes and so that would
make sense because he started playing a lot.
Speaker 8 (34:12):
Better, Yes so that just goes to show you how
detailed these things. Are there is a significant of money
to be made obviously in you, know IN, il And
i'm all for these young men being able to make
that type of. Money, honestly it's long. OVERDUE i MEAN
i thought this since you, KNOW i was old enough
to do that that you, know in the late, eighties
(34:35):
and you know it's taking it until this time for
us to get. Here BUT i think it's long, overdue
And i'm glad for. Them i'm not eighting on.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
Them agreed with, You billy that this is an. Opportunity,
again they are stars based on their, play and how
are we to say that they should not have the
opportunity to have endorsement deals.
Speaker 8 (34:56):
EXACTLY i, mean think of the money that was left
on the table or from stars that back in our.
DAYS i know IF i would have been playing back,
THEN i would have been. Sick, now, HONESTLY i hate
to say, that but you know those players had to be,
thinking my, god, man how COME i had to have,
been you, know at that age then and not playing
now because there's stars that WERE i think the nil
(35:19):
money that a guy Like Deon sanders would have, made
not that he needs some, money but think of the
money he would have made they then because he had
a huge name even.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
Then that's, Right, yes he was prime time before he
got to THE. NFL i mean we do know. THAT
i mean that's that was part of now his moniker
really grew in THE nfl, obviously but, yes to your,
POINT i, mean there are so many different stars And,
billy we do appreciate the, call.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
Sir we got to take this. Break would you call any?
Speaker 8 (35:44):
Time?
Speaker 2 (35:45):
Guys thank, You, Billy Thanks, billy and even like A
Reggie bush somebody like. That and remember like how he
had his heisman taken away because of money that he
are now a little bit different that it wasn't necessarily you,
know it was through the university and paying his, parents you,
(36:06):
know for a, house et, cetera all, that but that
would be revshare or he would have had the opportunity
through endorsement deals that maybe they didn't have to do
it that. Way so the point is that there were
definitely some stars that missed out on that. Opportunity but
again that's going back to. It, hey that's the, world that's. Life,
unfortunately you're not going to be able to get that.
(36:26):
Back just like there's times you might miss a sales.
Event HEY i want that. Deal well you should have
been here last. Week, sorry you, know we can't give
it to.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
You.
Speaker 3 (36:34):
Now that's just the reality of.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
It AND i know that's a rough, analogy but, again
some things in life you can't go. Back but it
is a shame that they didn't have, that and that's why,
again let's just.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
Focus on the windshield. Mentality let's lou move.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
Forward and that's WHY i think this is a significant
day in college athletics Here july, first as it is
a new dawn with college. Athletics and when we come,
back we do have a winner for the trivia. Question,
yes so, fantastic and we'll share that and we'll continue
This tuesday edition of The Richmond Weaver show presented By
Ingles markets right after this live from The Ingles studios
(37:13):
in Downtown, greenville right here On North Main. Street The
Richmond Weaver show continues right here on one oh four
Nine Fix sports Up state The tuesday. Edition Mister Darren
angel from The Weisch Law Firm Truther darren is here
in studio with, us and as, always Mister treyfalco behind
the board and behind the, mic and as we talked
about the trivia question for the twenty five dollars gift
(37:36):
card To autobil car.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
Wash we do have a.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
Winner we do have several people that did text in
with the correct, answer but only one was able to
win because this person texted in. First texter sixty five
thirty six had the correct answer and the question was
from nineteen eighty six to nineteen ninety, eight twelve year
(38:01):
period in THE, Nba Michael jordan won the scoring title
ten years out of those. Twelve who were the other
TWO nba players to win THE nba scoring? Title, darren
did you have a guess who you?
Speaker 8 (38:14):
Thought?
Speaker 6 (38:15):
Oh, MAN i have, TO i, do AND i should know,
this but my first guest would be calhm.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
Alone, okay, nope the guy in in The west was
one of.
Speaker 6 (38:29):
Them Clyde, Drexler, No, no.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
All, Right texter sixty five thirty six has the correct.
Answer David robinson And shaquille. O'Neill, yes there you, go
as if you. Remember Michael jordan there after the nineteen
ninety two ninety three season would leave THE nba And
David robinson of The San Antonio spurs in nineteen ninety
(39:02):
three would win the scoring title average in twenty nine
point eight points per. Game and then the following, Year
Michael jordan did come back if you, remember but it
wasn't until right before the, playoffs and so he, did
he wasn't able to, uh he didn't have enough games
to be, eligible and it Was shaquille O'Neill with The
Orlando magic averaging twenty nine point three points per game
(39:26):
as he would win THE nba scoring title there for
The Orlando. Magic and remember That Orlando magic, team him
And Penny, OH i think that's one of those teams
that's very underrated and what could have? Been, OH i
think it is part, of you, know a question for
THE nba at that time, period you know what could have.
Been but Obviously Michael jordan comes back and then things
(39:50):
significantly changed from. There but again Texter as sixty five
thirty six was able to come up with the correct.
Answer Antoni blanding looks like is the correct. Answer so fantastic.
Job we appreciate you. Listening and again we had Other
texters that did also chime in and even still would
(40:12):
get one, correct but not. Both there Was David robinson
And alajue was an answer from several, people but that is.
Incorrect it Was shack And David. Robinson and, again, also
here's the other thing about that With Michael. Jordan in
that time, period ten scoring, titles rumor, this AND i
(40:33):
just gave you that Both shaq And David robinson led
with twenty nine points per. Game Michael jordan never had
a season that he won the scoring title where he
averaged less than. Thirty the, Goat i'm, Sorry i'm, sorry
and that would be another. Show that would be another
(40:58):
three HOURS i could talk about To Michael. Jordan and,
again you can come up with all types of different
stats to tell your. Stories AND i know that In
Lebron james has stats that he could tell. Story BUT
i think a person that doesn't get told enough as
far as if there's a goat, conversation It's Kobe. Bryant
i'm gonna go back and look at some of his
stats and again that, mentality of that mamba.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
Mentality so there remember that as.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
Well but we appreciate everybody being able to participate in
the autobil trivia question and tomorrow we'll have another one

Speaker 1 (42:42):
Day let's go back in history to the moments you
might have forgotten and the ones you'll never. Forget it's
otd on this, day all?
Speaker 3 (42:53):
Right eighteen fifty?
Speaker 2 (42:55):
Nine, oh, YES i saw That Darren Mister Darren angel
here in studio is had popped up right there AS i,
say eighteen fifty.
Speaker 3 (43:02):
Nine, yes how about?
Speaker 2 (43:03):
This amhurst would Defeat williams in the very first intercollegiate
baseball game back in eighteen fifty.
Speaker 3 (43:12):
Nine the score was seventy three to thirty.
Speaker 2 (43:14):
Two, hey that's exciting baseball right.
Speaker 3 (43:18):
There, Yes i'll take.
Speaker 2 (43:19):
That, obviously rules were a little bit different all the
way back in eighteen fifty.
Speaker 3 (43:24):
Nine how about this in nineteen forty.
Speaker 2 (43:26):
Seven we've talked about the, draft but The Basketball association Of,
america which later became The National Basketball association THE, nba
held its inaugural college player draft back in nineteen forty.
Speaker 3 (43:39):
Seven, yeah so it goes all the way back. There
how about?
Speaker 2 (43:42):
This in nineteen eighty, Two Cal Ripken junior would make
his very first record setting start for The Baltimore orioles
In Major League baseball at Shortstop remember he had two,
thousand two hundred and sixteen consecutive starts and it started
on this date back in nineteen eighty.
Speaker 3 (44:03):
Two that's. Insane that ain't getting.
Speaker 2 (44:05):
Broken, yes that's A i do want to do that
segment one show sports records that just not going to be,
broken and that's definitely one of.
Speaker 3 (44:15):
Them there's no.
Speaker 2 (44:16):
Way nineteen ninety, five THE nba had its very first
lockout and it stopped. Play it DIDN'T i should say
it stopped free agency moves going, on but it didn't
stop the. Season we didn't see that happen until later
in twenty and eleven when THE nba had another lockout
on this, date and it did lead to a shortened.
(44:38):
Season remember sixty six games in that. Season that's where
it should. Be in all, HONESTY i do agree with.
Speaker 3 (44:44):
That all.
Speaker 2 (44:45):
Right that IS Otd and that is This tuesday edition
Of The Richmond Weaver, show presented By ingles Market. S
Darren angel from The Weisch Law. Firm thank you for
