And if you heard, and well you haven't heard yet,

(01:06):
but in our exclusive podcast hour, Trey Falco and I
were able to connect as I'm down here in hot
Atlanta for the twenty twenty five SEC Football Media Days
and obviously the beginning the official kickoff, and from my
standpoint that it is talking season in college football, and

(01:28):
mister Falco, I would have to say, I know you're
in the nice confines of the studio and I'm a
little bit jealous, but I have had an opportunity of
mingling with not only Shane Beemer, Lenora Sellers, d Q Smith,
and also Nick Barrett from South Carolina the game Cocks
as Shane Biemer took the podium at eleven forty five,

(01:49):
but had the opportunity of speaking to that contingency earlier
this morning. Brian Kelly has been here. Also, you've got
Lane Kiffen with Ole miss Is taking this stage now,
so there is all types of opportunities to get exposed
to SEC football. Clark Lee from Vanderbilt to see him
walking around as well, and I get it right now.

(02:11):
In Atlanta, you've got Major League Baseball All Star Game
is going to be tomorrow night. They're here in Atlanta,
I should say, And you've got Beyonce is in town
with her concerts and it's a mad house. But that
doesn't matter, mister Falco, because it's the SEC they're here.
It just means more. Yes, So you do have that

(02:32):
opportunity of getting to the point where now we're getting
more and more excited about the beginning of the twenty
twenty five college football season and obviously the expectations that
go into it. And if you don't think people are
going to be amped up, just get ready, because now
ESPN is even talking about how fired up they are

(02:55):
for this college football season and especially the SEC. And
now they've been able to pull in Bailey Zimmerman and
Luke Combs to help people get ready and help people
get amped up with a new promo that they just
got out. Listen to this.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Fuck the love for all the intensity you'd expect you
as Southeastern Conference.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
See guy, So you bags backed up the.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Gizzo he ain't out Taco Bell.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
Maybe you should think about what you're gonna do if
you don't work out, don't by got down, dream down,
if you got some improve it, don't have no again
to newarkun.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Buck, turn out, lean out, sho she shon back the only.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
Back up crazy.

Speaker 5 (04:05):
And who's ready for some college footballing wall exactly, And
it doesn't even do it justice just in terms of
the audio, but you can still feel the passion, the fire,
the enthusiasm there, and the video is even better again.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
You know, I'm not the guy though, that's going to
prop up a conference just because it's one conference and
based on their name. But I am going to prop
up when a conference does something in terms of putting
out content that's going to get every college football fan excited,
regardless of what conference you're in. And that's why I'm
excited to be here broadcasting and getting the opportunity of

(04:46):
hearing from some of these coaches and knowing how antup
they are and even the players in terms of the excitement.
And I know we've talked about South Carolina and the expectations.

Speaker 6 (04:57):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
And so we had the opportunity earlier this morning some
of the local media that cover South Carolina and it
was a fantastic opportunity to get the invitation since our
station one O four nine Fox Sports Upstate is the
official Gamecock affiliate in the Upstate and so getting the
opportunity to in a nice intimate setting with Shane Beemer,

(05:20):
with Leonora Sellers, with d Q. Smith and Nick Barrett
just to talk about you know, their off season and
what they've been able to do to get ready. And
then obviously you know how their season finished and the
oh so close and you just forget about the close
games that they had last year. Tra I mean, remember
they lost to Alabama on the road by two. They

(05:42):
lose at home to LSU by three in a game,
yes without Leonora Sellers in that second half, and that
was an opportunity where you win both of those games,
or maybe you even just win one of those games.
South Carolina might have been sitting there in the College
football playoff. That's how close it was. Now on the
flip side, I loved what Shane Biemer talked about though, too,

(06:05):
because when he was talking about those close games, he
did mention that, but this just shows you the margin
is so thin because he talked about we only beat
Old Dominion by four. You know, we only only beat
Missouri by four. You know, these other close games that
you do get the win balanced or you know, counterbalance
I should say, with some of those games that you

(06:26):
ended up losing. And obviously we saw the three point
victory on the road against Clemson, and you know how
that gave them so much more motivation. Now obviously more
motivation heading into the the off season and getting ready
for this season, because that was a tough loss in
the bowl game to Illinois. But the point is is
that it comes down to the little things and that's

(06:48):
what Shane Biemer had talked about, that South Carolina has
taking the necessary steps to be able to get to
that point where when you are having those close games.
And this is what we see how many times trade
that somehow teams they get to a point where they
finally they reach that point, that tipping point where they

(07:10):
can get over the hump and they start winning some
of those games and maybe start creating some of their
own luck and some of the ball bounces their way
for a particular reason, whatever it is, because they're doing
all of those little things that can add up. And
also here in the Leonora Sellers, this is what I
found interesting to is that being asked about expectations and

(07:37):
the target and is South Carolina still an underdog? And
you know, he answered it in a way that I
found intriguing just from a perspective of it was almost
like he was waffling because he didn't know how to answer,
and especially like the underdog question, do you feel the
South Carolina still an underdog, because part of it is

(07:59):
I think you like having that chip on your shoulder
and people counting you out and not believing that you
can do something. But there's also you have to be
able to have that confidence that hey, we're not an underdog,
we belong in this conference. When yes, we're here. You know,
this is no longer a team that's just hoping. This

(08:20):
is a team that's going out there and going and
taking victories from other teams, not just backing into a
victory and just you know, hope that it works out.
Let's go try to do the things that when they're
trying to do the things that will lead to greatness.
And I think that's a big difference when if you're
viewing it, you know, how can you be the best

(08:42):
version of yourself? And I'm saying it as a totality
of a team, and it all breaks down to each
individual person having to believe in that same type of mindset.
So the cumulative score or cumulative total is much greater
than one individual, if that makes sense. And so being
able to do that that takes the mindset of yeah,

(09:06):
we want to achieve greatness, and so we're going to
do the extra. We're not going to do just the minimum,
oh so we can try to get a win. No,
We're going to do extra so we can be great.
And I think that's what I'm starting to see with
South Carolina. And I've said it before that it might

(09:26):
not be a true upward trajectory and linear pathway, so
to speak. But here in Lenora, Seller's talking about pressure
that he doesn't view it as pressure and the target
you know, on his back now his second year and
he's got to you know, live up to the expectation
following a fantastic year last year, you know, all of

(09:47):
those things. He views it as an opportunity, as an
opportunity to go be great, as an opportunity to do
something there at South Carolina that hasn't been done, and
also be able to, you know, be part of something special.
And pressure is a privilege. And I have heard Coach

(10:10):
Beamer say that several times, and so to hear these
guys just reiterate that, that tells me that the message
is being delivered to these players and they're starting to
believe and what Coach Beamer is preaching.

Speaker 6 (10:23):
Oh and to your point, that sort of mindset, that
sort of shift that starts from a top down. That's
a top down perspective. That's a Shamee Beemer that's pouring
out into these men and getting them to buy into
the vision, this vision that hey, look, it doesn't matter
what the national media thinks of us.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
It doesn't matter what they're trying to paint us. It
doesn't matter.

Speaker 6 (10:46):
None of that matters, None of the noise matters. What
matters is going out there and doing the best that
we can the little things each and every day, especially
on game day, to go out and win these games.
And that's a process that eventually, and it may take
some time, and to your point, it may not be linear,
championships will follow. I think they they just will. I

(11:07):
believe that, and that that is a that is a
different mind shift. That is what you talk about when
you talk about the culture.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
Is it winning?

Speaker 6 (11:13):
I mean, obviously winning is important, but so is culture
so that you can hang on that in the lean times.
I mean, look at Clemson, it's very similar between and
we've we've said this a lot, but it's very similar
between a Shane Beemer and a Dabo swinging.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
That's right, it definitely is. And just think about when
Clemson hit some of that adversity and if you want
to quote unquote call it that adversity where dj uey
Ungile doesn't live up to expectations as a five star
quarterback there at Clemson and Clemson you know, it has
quote unquote down years. You know, it doesn't win the

(11:48):
ACC championship, you know, and it's almost comical when you
think about it from that perspective. But because that they
had the culture and the foundation that it wasn't just
a complete fall from grace, right, they didn't just you know,
completely drop to you know, only winning four games or

(12:10):
anything of that nature. And there could have been I mean,
there were definitely games that they could have easily lost.
Also that they won. Yeah, that allowed them to you know,
still get ten victories in a season which you included
the bowl game. And you know, so you have to
view it from that standpoint if you're a South Carolina
fan that hey, yes, there's a lot of expectations and
it might not always go your way. But Shane Biemer

(12:32):
is building the thing that you want as a fan,
and that's just giving your team an opportunity. And they
view it as an opportunity because I think they truly
believe that they do belong in the SEC, regardless of
how Greg Sankee wants to push that propaganda that the
SEC is far better than any other conference out there.

(12:56):
And I don't necessarily believe that, but there is something
to be said that it almost seems that the talking
season for college football is really started now because the
SEC football media days have started, and I think this
is a great opportunity to really start diving into college football.
All that we love about college football, the pageantry, everything.

(13:19):
And I know we can get so distracted tray about
some of the noise as you talked about that's going
on right now with the changes of college athletics and
how these players are actually getting to the field, getting
to the court, whatever. But I'm telling you, just even
listening to that Bailey Zimmerman and Luke Combe's promo there

(13:42):
with ESPN and the SEC, I don't care. I mean,
I do care, but I'm not consumed by how things
are going in college athletics right now because I know
the fans we're going to love another college football season.
We're going to check, We're going to have excitement, we're

(14:03):
going to have pandemonium, We're going to have chaos, and
we're going to have upsets that we never thought would
have happened. We're going to have plays that nobody could
have thought about, nobody could have scripted, and you know what, Trey,
We're going to love every second of it. We're going
to keep coming back, We're going to keep cheering, and
then we're also still going to be frustrated as hell
because our team didn't win a championship. And that's the
beauty of sports and I'm sticking to that, and I

(14:26):
know at some point we're going to figure it all
out in terms of, you know, how these players get
to the field, get to the court. But as of
right now, just embrace what we love about college football
because it is oh so close. We are getting ready
for training camp, fall camp, however you want to describe it.
It is right around the corner. But we want you

(14:47):
to also join the conversation eight six four two four
zero five four eight zero. Again that number is eight
six four two four zero five four eight zero, because
when we come back. I do have a few thoughts,
though we talked about it in the podcast Hour the
SEC and a nine game conference schedule, I think it's
time that they moved to it. And also I did

(15:07):
see a new top ten listing for quarterbacks in twenty
twenty five. We might have to take a look at that,
because this is the NFL executives, coaches, and scouts voting
on it, and you know they might have something to
say about it. Much more of the Richmond Weaver Show
presented by Ingles Markets right after this. The showdown is

(15:28):
happening right now in Atlanta. The twenty twenty five SEC
Football Media Days has kicked off, as we saw Brian
Kelly from LSU take the podium earlier this morning, and
Shane Beemer and the rest of the South Carolina game
Cock crew there with Leonora Sellers, d Q Smith and
Nick Barrett also were able to attend. And Shane Beemer

(15:51):
addressed the media at eleven forty five this morning. And
also I think he took a little bit of exception
to Paul Finbaum questioning is South Carolina? Is it doable
for South Carolina, I should say, to win an SEC championship,
And he pretty quickly made sure that Paul Feinbaum knew that, oh, yes,
there is something about this opportunity that they have and

(16:18):
it can be done. And He's been a part of
winning programs. And remember he was part of the coaching
staff with the old ball coach there, Steve Spurrier. So
they have had obviously success in the SEC in the past.
It's been a long time. We get that, but I
do believe that Shane Biemer fully understands where things are

(16:39):
going with South Carolina. And obviously I think a lot
of fans are sitting there with a little bit of
I guess, Trey, it's being cautiously optimistic. I think it's
you know, you've got to get just somewhat over that hump.
Can you win one of these other big games. Can
you get to the say SEC Champamionship game, can you

(17:01):
get to the College Football Playoff, you know, whatever it
might be. I think some South Carolina fans need to
see something like that when they can fully believe in
what Shane Biember in South Carolina is doing. As you're
listening to the Monday edition of the Richmond Weavers Show
presented by Engles Markets, all right, trade. The other thing
that you know we did talk about more so in

(17:22):
the podcast hour is nine game conference schedule for the
SEC and the questions centered around that and I know
Greg Thankey was asked specifically about that, and he's come
out and said that the SEC is going to continue
evaluating its eight game conference football schedule and taking into

(17:43):
account the College Football Playoffs future format. And there's obviously
some ambiguity there because we don't know exactly what's going
to happen. Is it going to say at twelve, is
it going to fourteen or sixteen? But he does say
that right now, Hey, the SEC, they do have a
power for non conference game requirements, so they're required to play,

(18:03):
you know, one game a non conference power for school,
and all sixteen of the SEC teams did that last year.
But he also said that, quote no team in another
league would trade its schedule for the slate played in
the SEC end quote. And I still have trouble with

(18:27):
that that I get it. I know that you're touting
that the SEC is the best conference, and I'm not
saying that he's necessarily wrong because you are looking at
some elite level teams on a national level, But continuing
to say that the eight game schedule is so hard
and that's the reason why you can't go to nine game,

(18:48):
I think it's a cop out. I just don't get that,
because again, you're the SEC. You can't tell me you
can't handle one more game. You're supposed to be the
greatest conference we've ever seen, So you can't tell me
game is going to hurt your conference.

Speaker 4 (19:01):
Oh no, I don't think it would at all.

Speaker 6 (19:03):
And I mean from a fan perspective, you know, to
circle this all the way back around in the college
football playoffs, there's already been kind of I'm not gonna
say uproar, but a little bit of a stinker that's like,
come on, are these are the best teams? Are these
are the best of the best when it comes down
to the actual, you know, getting the twelve teams that
make it in there. And I don't know how you

(19:23):
fairly evaluate what teams are gonna go in there if
you have conferences that aren't playing the same amount of
conference games, Like if you you've got conferences playing eight
gamestead of nine, how can you fairly say, like I
get it's there's this whole narrative, will it's harder, it
means more? You know, it's the SEC. The fact of
the matter is they're playing one less game.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
I don't know, I don't know.

Speaker 6 (19:43):
It just it's it's it's interesting to me. It sounds
like we may have Richie still there. Sounds like we
may have lost rich I think your mic might be
all maybe you're muted. I can hear the background noise.
But yeah, again, I think like this idea that you know,

(20:08):
to your point, rich if you can still hear me, again,
I can't hear you. I'm gonna check my phone and
make sure that we may need to take a break
and get reconnected. But I just.

Speaker 4 (20:19):
It is a cop out. It really is.

Speaker 6 (20:20):
And we talked a lot about this here in the
first hour, which you guys can listen to on the
iHeartRadio app there. It's already published. I uploaded it earlier,
so you can go ahead and take a listen to that.
But we kind of dove a little in depth in
this that it is a cop out that you know,
I don't know how you can pretend or teut that
you are the best quote unquote conference and not play

(20:44):
as many games, doesn't matter what the strength of schedule is.
But we are going to go ahead and take a
break really quick. I'm gonna reconnect with Richmond Weaver and
then we'll be right back right here on The Richmond
Weaver Show on one o four nine Fox Sports Upstate.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
We are back right here on one oh four nine
Fox Sports Upstate. This is the Monday edition of the
Richmond Weavers Show, presented by Engles Markets, and we apologize
a little bit for the technical difficulty there, and that's
just part of it in terms of being able to
broadcast from remote locations as we are here in Atlanta

(21:23):
at the twenty twenty five SEC Football Media Days, and
as you actually heard in the promo right there for
part of that commercial is that technology can be amazing,
but it can also lead to some headaches, mister Falco,
So I appreciate you doing some yeoman's work over there
to making sure that we got those grimlins sorted out.
And we apologize listeners out there, but we also understand

(21:47):
that this is just part of life. But you can
be a part of this crazy life and crazy conversation
that we have each week day. Give us a call
eight six four two four zero five four eight zero.
Again that numbers eight six four two four zero five
four eight zero, and especially some of you South Carolina
fans getting ready for this football season and the expectations

(22:08):
and what it might look like. And I know we
got cut off there with the nine game conference schedule
and my thoughts on how the SEC it's time you
need to move to nine game conference schedule, But Tray
and I we broke it down in a lot of
detail in our one, the podcast version, so make sure
you go check that out wherever you get your podcast.

(22:30):
The Richmond Weaver Show is podcast available through the iHeartRadio app,
which we prefer because it is so easy pasy. Just
download it through the app store or on Google Play
and just search one of four nine, Fox Sports or
the Richmond Weaver Show and you can find it and
listen because we did talk about it in a little

(22:51):
bit more detail. I just think it's time because I
think the fans would want it. I think media entities
would want it, and if you're so big and bad, SEC,
I think you can handle it right. And I know
we've got history that shows us. In twenty sixteen, the
Big Ten went to nine game conference schedule, and guess what,

(23:12):
We've had two back to back national champions coming from
the Big Ten with Ohio State and previously Michigan before
that with Jim Harball. So it can be done. It's
not going to be that detrimental to your school, and
knowing trait that the fact is is that now you
truly have this big selection committee that's looking at strength
of schedule, and if your conference is so big and bad,

(23:34):
wouldn't you have the opportunity of increasing your strength of
schedule if you played an additional game within your conference
because it's so tough. I think it makes perfect sense. Yes, exactly,
it makes perfect sense. So go ahead, Greg Sankie, Let's
make it happen. And also I say the same thing
to the ACC. It's time. Let's have everybody doing the
same thing. We want better matchups, all of that, and

(23:55):
this is a way to do it, all right. One
thing though that I did take notice of, and I
know it's college football right now, but we know in
South Carolina there's a lot of spotlight being put on
Kate Klubnik and Leonora Sellers, and especially when you're looking
at from a Heisman Trophy standpoint, but even more importantly,

(24:17):
how will their game in college football translate to the NFL.
So I found that it's interesting that we can have
all these type of rankings, especially from fans, from national pundits,
regional pundits all of that, but also it did see
a poll that was on ESPN that actually talking about

(24:41):
the top quarterbacks coming into the twenty twenty five season
in the NFL. And this is according to NFL executives, coaches,
and scouts, and mister falco I think they might have
a little bit more of a detailed opinion as far
as who the best quarter is because guess what they

(25:02):
see these players each and every day. Basically, oh yeah,
and you're talking about coaches and scouts and scouts. You
can't tell me they have not run the rigors of
film study of breaking down these players' potential and what
they've been able to do. But Warren Sharp, who does
a fantastic job on x I do follow him, and

(25:24):
so he reposted the ESPN list the top ten quarterbacks
for the twenty twenty five season. So how about this
number ten? Is Baker Mayfield there at number ten, And
mister falco I would have to say, at number ten,
I'm looking at Baker Mayfield and are we not seeing

(25:45):
just some type of resurgence in his career? Think about
where he was with Cleveland and now where he is
number ten in all of the NFL that's a pretty
big step for Baker Mayfield in my opinion.

Speaker 4 (25:58):
Oh, it's a huge step for Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 6 (26:00):
I also like my personal opinion, ten feels like, if
you're gonna put Baker Mayfield on this list, ten is
probably about right. I feel like Baker Mayfield is pretty
underrated as far as a quarterback goes. And maybe that's
just because he's down in Tampa in that whole division,
but ten feels about right to me for Baker Mayfield, Like,
if you're gonna include him, I wouldn't. I don't know

(26:22):
that I would put him much higher than that. Personal agreed, Yes,
I agree.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
Number nine Jalen Hurts, Super Bowl Champion, right, Jalen Hurts.
And I do think that Jalen Hurts is a very
serviceable quarterback. And obviously we know what he can do
in the run game and the tush push and all, yeah,
you can't stop it, and he has improved as a quarterback.
And I do think there's a certain aspect that Jalen
Hurts is underrated. I also think he is with a

(26:49):
really good team and I'm wondering if he gets elevated
because of the team aspect. More so, you know, are
we putting how we You know a lot of times
when teams win, oh, it's cause the quarterback. If teams
teams lose, yeah, we can say it's also the quarterback
as well. But I'm just wondering if we're getting too

(27:11):
much credit to Jalen Hurts here.

Speaker 6 (27:13):
I also wonder how much those championships play into this,
no doubt, because like that's part of the discussion, right,
Like has to say whatever you want to about Jalen Hurts,
But the fact is he does have two rings.

Speaker 2 (27:25):
That's right. Yes, And as much as I say, hey,
are we proppiting up propping him up right because of
those rings? Well, I think to a certain degree you
have to. Yeah, he's getting results. It's not about the
number of MVPs. Yes, that can be a factor into it.
It can be a factor into your stats. But are
you putting are you continuing to help your team be

(27:46):
in a winning position? And I think Jalen Hurts does that.
But at number nine that does feel a little bit high.
But he is getting a results, so that there is
something there. Number eight Jared Golf. I'm a big Jared
Golf fan because I do think that he's an underrated
quarterback in terms of his accuracy. I think he's very accurate,

(28:11):
and that's why I like, Again, it's a little bit
of I would say, comeback story, but there is something
to Jared Goff that he's been able to reinvent himself now.
He's also been able to do it with a team
that has getting a lot of attention now with Dan
Gampbell and the Detroit Lions and all of that. And
he's got some talent around him. But I like Jared

(28:32):
Golf sitting there at number eight.

Speaker 6 (28:34):
I do too, and I feel pretty similar, Like if
you're going to talk about Baker Mayfield, I think you
got to talk about Jared Goff too with you talking
about that resurgence of their career. Yes, I also look
at Jared Goff and I look at not just the
team that's around him, but I mean you look at
the division that he played in fourteen and two. But
then the Vikings fourteen and two said everything that it
was Sam Darnold, So I mean it's not like, you know,

(28:57):
Baker's playing in that division with the Panthers and the
Saints is kind of like, okay, well what's this competition?
But you look at Jared Goff and it's like he's
got a pretty good team around him, but he's also
playing against pretty heavy competition.

Speaker 2 (29:09):
No question Number seven, Justin Herbert, And I'm saying Justin
Herbert seven and Matthew Stafford number six, right, because this
is interesting as well, because I've got a comment with
Justin Herbert is I would almost put Jared Golf above
Justin Herbert. And I know that's you know, it's just

(29:32):
one position. You're just flip flopping the guys. And I
have definitely seen some things from Justin Herbert which make
you believe that, Okay, this guy can be an elite
level quarterback. And maybe, you know, now with Jim Harball
at the helm and especially being able to lean on
some of the running game concepts that Jim Harball is

(29:53):
known for, maybe that can help Justin Herbert in the
passing game. But to your point talking about like a
Jalen Hurts and even Jared go Off to a certain degree,
at some point, Justin Herbert's going to have to win,
and he's going to have to win in the postseason
and be able to get the Chargers, you know past
you remember the big letdown against the Jaguars a.

Speaker 4 (30:15):
Couple of years ago.

Speaker 2 (30:16):
Man, Yeah, I mean you can't let that happen. And
I know, again we're not putting everything on Justin Herbert,
but at some point you're going to have to be
able to win some of those big games. And then
you look at Matthew Stafford and you and I were
talking because I sent this to you and as we
were prepping for the show. I mean, Matthew Stafford at

(30:40):
number six, I mean, it's hard to argue, but the
results he's been in the league since two thousand and nine, right,
this guy is you're talking about energizer Rabbit or whatever,
just keeps on going. I mean, we're getting ready for
him to enter his seventeenth season in the NFL, and
are we seeing a sharp decline with him? I mean yes,

(31:02):
you can look back at twenty twenty one when he
had you know, almost forty nine hundred passing yards, forty
one tds and you know, seventeen interceptions, and then this
past year only thirty seven hundred yards, twenty tds and
eight interceptions. But I say only thirty seven hundred yards.
I mean he's still a quarterback that is getting it

(31:22):
done with the Rams team that has been you know,
up and down ever you know since their championship and
so but I'm just amazed that Matthew Stafford is continuing
to play at the level that he is and now
again entering his seventeenth season. I would have never guessed
until I really looked at his career, Yeah, that it's

(31:43):
going into year seventeen.

Speaker 4 (31:44):
No, I wouldn't have guessed that either. And I have
no problem with Matthew Stafford being there at number six.

Speaker 6 (31:48):
I mean, the dude's playing at still an elite level
to be there in the in the NFL where he's at,
and and and in a level where like even going
into the season, I wouldn't necessarily count the Rams out
like that is a team that I think can do
some damage there in the regular season and also in
the in the postseason. I mean, you forget last year
you had Pukin Aku out and you had Cooper Cup out,

(32:08):
Like I.

Speaker 4 (32:09):
Mean, you got your two star receivers are gone.

Speaker 6 (32:11):
Right, and still they found a way to clinch a
playoff run and like go in there and make it.

Speaker 4 (32:17):
So, I mean that's huge, and that's that's that's Matthew Stafford.
He's helping. My one thing that I would look at
with a Justin Herbert to your point, at some point.

Speaker 6 (32:25):
You gotta do it, yes, And I look at all
these guys here on the list, and I'm like, most
of them have, you know, either made it the playoffs,
made some type of like I don't know.

Speaker 4 (32:34):
Justin Herbert.

Speaker 6 (32:35):
My big question with him is how many more seasons
can we keep going? Well, you know, I keep seeing
flashes of Justin Herbert. He seems like he's gonna be
an the elite level quarterback.

Speaker 4 (32:44):
At some point.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
He just has to do it.

Speaker 4 (32:45):
He just has to be at a little level quarterback.
And that's my problem.

Speaker 6 (32:48):
I might swap Justin Herbert out, either pull him back
like you said behind golf, or I might swap him
out with like a C. J.

Speaker 4 (32:53):
Stroud. I think CJ. Stroud has done more in his
couple of years here than Justin Herbert has.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
Okay, so here's here's a question for you, because I'm
about to go through the top five here.

Speaker 6 (33:03):
R c J.

Speaker 2 (33:04):
Stroud is not on this list and not even as
a top ten, right.

Speaker 4 (33:09):
It's criminal.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
And I am surprised by this. And also there's no
Dak Prescott, which I was not surprised. Yes, Dak Prescott
is not a top ten quarterback. He's just not, especially
not at this point in his career. But is this
a surprise at number five? Jaden Daniels at number five

(33:33):
for a top ten quarterback in twenty twenty five. This
is according to NFL executives, coaches, and scouts, who again,
who have done the rigors of going through film, right,
you know the All twenty two film, and I know
John Ellison Game one, he can talk to you until
the day is long whatever. The same is about the

(33:54):
All twenty two because he lives for the All twenty
two and so he can break it down with the
best of them. But for jayde and Daniels number five,
he said one year in the NFL tray, and I
know they made a run.

Speaker 4 (34:05):
I get it they did.

Speaker 2 (34:06):
And so how much is this is on the upside
of Jayden Daniels man?

Speaker 4 (34:12):
I everything personally like, look, he was phenomenal last year.
But I also like, to your point, it's one season.
I mean, if we were gonna play, if we were
gonna say okay, yeah, all right, we're gonna basse it
on one season.

Speaker 6 (34:25):
Shoot, Mac Jones put him in the top ten, Go
ahead and put him in the like, if you're gonna
base it on one season, we may.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
As well blasphemy tray.

Speaker 6 (34:34):
But you get what I'm saying, You get where I'm
paying from. I mean, you never know what the career
trajectory is going to look like for these guys. And
when people start getting taped, I mean, this is the
NFL man. They don't see when people start getting tape.

Speaker 4 (34:45):
On Jayden Daniels. I before I put him in the
top ten.

Speaker 6 (34:48):
I could consider it because he did play extremely well,
but I would want to see another season under him,
just to see what teams have on him, you know
what I mean. Of course, I don't know. I'm torn
on that one because I like J Daniels. I love
what he's doing. I love his process with the VR
and the way he sees the field. But it's one season.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
Yes, it's one season, and you know, we look at CJ.
Stroud and haven't we learned that, Hey, we need to
make sure it's not just you know, a flash in
the pan, right and right? You know, one season and
remember c J. Stroud. I mean his rookie season had
forty one hundred passing yards. Twenty three TVs and five interceptions,
and last year he had thirty seven hundred passing yards

(35:28):
twenty tds. Now, he did increase his interceptions, he was
more prone to interceptions with twelve. But I think a
function of that is what you talked about and what
we've talked about. Hey, teams get film on you. He
understand your tendencies and so then are you pressing a
little bit at times? And you know, from that perspective,
so if we're not putting C. J. Stroud close to

(35:50):
that top ten, how are we all of a sudden
just putting Jade and Daniels? Thank you? Hasn't the NFL
learned that they can't just go off of one.

Speaker 4 (35:58):
Season, especially the rookie season.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
Especially the rookie season. And it's a rookie season, it's
first year head coach there for the Commanders, you know,
Dan Quinn. So you've got and and you know you've
got a hell of an offensive coordinator there also. Yeah,
so I mean, let's let's let's give it a little
bit of time to breathe before we're putting Jade and
Daniels at number five.

Speaker 6 (36:23):
You know, maybe if they put him at ten. Yeah,
just kind of throw them a bone and get him
in there. That probably would sit better with me.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
I could accept that I'm putting Matthew Stafford over jayde Daniels.
I'm sorry.

Speaker 4 (36:33):
Yeah, yeah, I'd agree with that.

Speaker 2 (36:34):
He's won a Super Bowl. Yeah, yes, he does it consistently,
year in and year out, and to your point, there's
been times where he hasn't even had a supporting cast
and he still is putting up some stats. So yeah,
that's a tough one for me right there with Jaydeon
Daniels sitting there at number five, all right, the top four,

(36:55):
here we go, Lamar Jackson at number four, all right,
Joe Burrow at number three.

Speaker 4 (37:01):
Interesting, Josh Allen at.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
Number one, and guess who is sitting there at I
mean it's Josh Allen number two. And guess who's sitting
there at number one? Once again, I wonder who. I
wonder who mister State Farm Mahomes Auto all of that,
Patrick Mahomes sitting there at number one. I don't have

(37:25):
an issue with Patrick Mahomes sitting there at number one.
I know he's coming off the Super Bowl laws, I
get all of that, but he just continues to be
a guy that is the what I would say ultimate quarterback.
Josh Allen obviously pushing that, but he's got to go
win something he does, yes, outside of the MVP, it
just can't be that. And then when you look at

(37:45):
Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson, again, Joe Burrow not having
a defense right, and that's hurt him in terms of
team being able to win. Man, that's a tough one
between Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson because I am becoming
a believer in Lamar Jackson and this is a guy

(38:06):
that I didn't think that his game was going to
translate from college to the NFL the way that it has.
But there's also We've talked about it several times. Lamar
has to go win something also does and it can't
just be you know, the AFC North. He's got to
go and win something in the playoffs and get to
the super Bowl. And obviously all Baltimore Raven fans would

(38:27):
want him to win a super Bowl. But there's something
about uh again, being able to win some championships that
are going to elevate you as a top ten quarterback.

Speaker 6 (38:37):
I look at this kind of three A, three B
for me, for Joe Burrow Lamar Jackson. Personally, I'm inclined
to put Lamar Jackson over Joe Burrow. I know that
might be a little blasphemous, but I look at it,
at least from a receiving core aspect, I feel like
Lamar Jackson is working with less because you've got Joe
Burrow there with Higgins and Jamarsh.

Speaker 4 (38:58):
I mean, you got it. That's right, hell of a
receiving duo there, and they're I mean.

Speaker 6 (39:01):
They're they're there, they're paid, they're locked in, right, so
they're they're they're being around or they're stuck around Lamar Jackson.
I know they've I know they've got the defense as
well with the Ravens, and that helps a lot, and
that can help take a lot of pressure off quarterback.
And maybe there's a little bit of that. Obviously he
has the MVPs. But to your point, and that's why
I think it's like an ab kind of thing. Instead

(39:22):
of going just straight three to four, you've got to
do something in the postseason.

Speaker 4 (39:26):
And Burrow's done that.

Speaker 6 (39:27):
I mean, he doesn't have he doesn't he hadn't won
a Super Bowl, but I mean he's made progress, he's
he's he's been.

Speaker 2 (39:33):
There, you know he has. That's right, and again I
think it's splitting hairs when you get to that point
as far as who the top quarterback is in the
coming upcoming twenty twenty five season. So we've got much
more to talk about that as well. But let's take
a look at some of the latest headlines.

Speaker 4 (39:53):
It's only one game.

Speaker 1 (39:56):
That's to take care of men hitting the latest headlines.

Speaker 4 (39:59):
It's the daily rundown, all right.

Speaker 2 (40:02):
We did hear Greg Sankie talk about looking at a
nine game conference schedule, so would it be expansion, But
also he did talk about the NCAA tournament expansion and
he does quote saying, quote, we think there are enough
quality teams across the country to merit giving this growth
full consideration. To be clear, we support expansion, but will

(40:25):
be fine if finances, planning, broadcast opportunities, or competitive realities
do not justify growth end quote. So there you go, Greg,
you're on board. We do not need expansion, so make
sure we do not have that. But we did see
the Sun Belt Conference expanding as they officially invited Louisiana
Tech to their conference after Texas State decided to leave

(40:49):
the sun Belt and go to the PAC twelve. So
again conference moving is happening. And then also, how about
this Shaquille O'Neill, a big Shaquille O'Neill o fan, He
was a on X and he asked this question, Can
someone please settle an argument for me? What should the
thermostat be set to at the house?

Speaker 3 (41:10):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (41:11):
Exactly, I hear it in your voice, mister Falcon. I
think that's probably a point of contention and almost every
household in America between a husband and a while husband
and wife and any spousal situations out there, your thoughts.
Where do you set it? Trey?

Speaker 6 (41:30):
I mean, I feel like I grew up in a
house it was like just straight to seventy two, like
that feels like the default number to me. But we
actually we keep it just save on energy a little bit.
We keep it around like seventy five in my house.

Speaker 2 (41:40):
Yeah, okay, do you adjust it at night? Though?

Speaker 4 (41:44):
If I had a smart thermostat, I might. I am
too lazy.

Speaker 1 (41:47):
I just.

Speaker 4 (41:50):
I'll sweat it out.

Speaker 2 (41:51):
I think we set ours between it's either seventy three
or seventy four. During the day. It does fluctuate. My wife, Julian,
she gets cold all the time. It can be eighty
tog in the house and she seems to be cold.
But I do need it colder at night, so we
do adjust it to about seventy degrees at night to
help sleep. But Shaquille O'Neill, Yeah, he's getting people thinking,

(42:11):
he's getting the debates going.

Speaker 4 (42:13):
He's probably called in some fights out there.

Speaker 2 (42:15):
Watch what you're doing, shag. All right, that's the latest headlines,
and we will wrap up this Monday edition of The
Richmond Weaver Show presented by Ingles Markets, as we are
live from the SEC Football Media Days here in hot Atlanta.
SEC Football Media Days kicking off here in Atlanta, as

(42:36):
we got to hear from Brian Kelly of LSU and
also Shane Beemer from South Carolina game Cocks, and we
know Lane Kiffin is just wrapping up and Clark Lee
from Vanderbilt is finishing his portion of the day as well.
As we have been here the entire day. It has
been a fantastic event and it will continue throughout the

(42:58):
rest of the week. But we will be back in
studio tomorrow and mister Trey Falco holding down the fort
here on this Monday edition are the Richmond Weaver Show
presented by Ingles Markets. And I know we've had little
technical grimlin earlier in the show, but also remember you
can listen to an exclusive podcast hour through any podcasting
platform that you like, but also check out the iHeartRadio app.

(43:21):
As we are sitting here, July the fourteenth, so let's
walk back in a little bit of history.

Speaker 1 (43:27):
What happened on this day. Let's go back in history
to the moments you might have forgotten and the ones
you'll never forget. It's OTD on this day.

Speaker 3 (43:39):
All right?

Speaker 2 (43:39):
How about this? In nineteen eighty five, I do not
remember this, but the USFL, the United States Football League
Championship was played on this date. The Baltimore Stars defeated
the Oakland Invaders twenty eight to twenty four. I need
a T shirt that says the Oakland Invaders. I would
I love to see, Yes, I would love to see
what that looks like. That they have some type like

(44:01):
Space Invaders kind of a concept that would be in
There has to be something like that. It would not
surprise me. And in two thousand and thirteen, mister Jordan
Speith would become the youngest winner on the PGA Tour
in eighty two years. He was nineteen years old when
he won the John Deere Classic, and he was the
first teenager to win since nineteen thirty one. Yeah, so

(44:25):
that is a long time ago. Twenty and fifteen, Mike
Trout became the first Major League Baseball player in thirty
eight years to lead off the All Star Game with
a home run, and he would also be named MVP
there in that All Star Game. In twenty nineteen, Novak
Jokovic would win the longest ever Wimbledon title over Roger

(44:45):
Federer four hours and fifty seven minutes. Yes, and that
is OTD. And that is this Monday edition, another Richmond
Weaver Show presented by Ingles Markets. We'll talk to you tomorrow.
