Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hour two of the Richmond Weavers Show right here on
one of four nine Fox Sports Upstate continues proudly presented
by our good friends at Ingles Markets, and make sure
you get out to your local Ingles to get all
of your grocery supplies here at this upcoming weekend. And
school starting in Greenville County on Monday. So I know
a lot of parents are anxiously excited, kids are anxiously
(00:25):
excited and also probably a little disappointed that summer is over.
I understand, but the school has is right, and I
know some schools have already started, and you know, so
it's second nature now understanding that school starts so much
earlier than I remember. And again I'm embarrassed to say though,
I mean, it has been a long time since I
(00:46):
was obviously in school. But I don't know why. I
cannot remember when school started when I was a kid.
I have no clue. I can't remember if it was
after Labor Day or before Labor Day, right, I feel
like it's changed, no clue, Yeah, and it definitely has.
I know we did not start, and I know there's
(01:08):
been some schools that have started at the end of July,
the first of August, and no, I did not have
any of that happen. And even I've asked my mom
and I don't think she couldn't really remember either. Now, again,
it's a long time ago, so there is that there
are certain things I can't even remember from thirty minutes
(01:29):
ago almost, so we do have to take that into consideration.
But we are continuing here on this Friday edition. And
as I mentioned, make sure you get out to your
local ingles to get all of your grocery supplies and
school supplies heading into school in Greenville County on Monday.
Ingles solow prices love the savings all right, one of
(01:50):
the things that I'm still intrigued about. And we're going to,
like I said, next week trade this when we're really
going to dive into looking at specific teams, looking at
specific conferences, and power ranking some of the conferences in
college football, and then we'll also we'll do it in
the NFL. And I know you and John have already
started talking about some of your thoughts their well side.
(02:13):
I definitely want to be able to dive into some
of the college football and also I really want to
start even looking at from college football, like who are
the biggest voices in college football. I mean, is it
the commissioners? Is it some of the head coaches? And
you know obviously where the changing landscape is going, and
(02:39):
who's going to be somewhat leading that charge. Is it
a Greg Sank I mean, is it a commissioner? You know?
Is it somebody or now this new College Sports Commission.
You know how much involvement in power? And I say power,
maybe it's leverage, influence, you know, those type of things.
So we're going to be diving into that. And then
as I mentioned specifically, I'm already putting together some of
(03:02):
my thoughts for who I think can win these conferences.
Who I think is going to be some of the
surprise teams? Yeah, unfortunately, who I think is going to
be some teams that are going to have a regression
here in twenty twenty five and might not be able
to live up to the hype. And then also we
(03:23):
do know, though, there's one team that I'm very, very
curious about, and I think it might be the biggest
mystery in all of college football, and that's the North
Carolina tar Hills. Yes, yes, there is something there that
I'm definitely going to examine. But I know we've got
a caller, and I want to jump out to the
Ingles hotline eight six four two four zero five four
(03:45):
eight zero. The Richmond Weavers show, Who's.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
This rich Tray was going on, Well.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
So Chad, what is happening? Chad the vending King? How
are you, sir? You're getting ready for the big game tonight?
Speaker 2 (03:59):
I take it, Yes, sir, Yes, sir, We all ready
for it, trying to get the old work. Gonna get
home and park it on the couch and tune in.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Man, go and now, yes, go ahead.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
But the best I can remember, man, we always went
back about like on a Thursday, like the third week
in August, or maybe in August there it was five
weeks things like That's when we went back.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Yeah, I feel it was after Labor Day. For me.
I feel it was the Tuesday after Labor Day is
when we went back to school. But I have no
way of verifying that. That's the problem. I can't remember.
I can't remember, Chad.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
But anyway, man, I heard old Brodie calling.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Man, it's good to.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Hear them, old friend calling. We heard him in a while,
you and you and him were talking to them cowboys.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Man.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
I'll tell you that the story of Rich's kind of funny.
I had a.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
Fella one of my stops.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
He's like, man, I'm a die hard Cowboy fan. I
got Keen autograph Jerseys. I got a big eighty six
cinch TV screen. I watched the games on after over that. Well, now,
howd you get your vc R to work with that
new technology? Said you can watch the Super Bowl? Man. Man,
(05:22):
we didn't watch them on YouTube. Man, we don't have
no R. But anyway, he said, I'm gonna tell you
why the Super Wine the Cowboys they won no super Bowl,
he said, am I it's a conspiracy. He said, Jerry
Joes and Roger Goodell don't get along, and Goodel Let's
sen referees have bad calls on them Cowboys and they
(05:42):
can't win. I was like, oh lord here, when I
say the Father was gonna win by.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
Two Tony the Ridge, yes you do. I can promise you.
I'm gonna sound that crazy.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
No.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
And of course that's exactly how it plays out. When
you have a team that hasn't had success in thirty years,
you start coming up with the craziest ideas because you
don't have any other way to explain it. That's the problem.
And but it's easy, Chad. We know it's Jerry Jones's
He's the common denominator, that is, that is the equation here.
(06:19):
You don't have to look very far. It's not Roger
Goodell and I'm not and yes, and I know he's
somewhat trying to be funny, but maybe he's not. Maybe
he does somewhere deep down believe in that. But there
is no way, there's.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
No yeah, yeah, well hey again, I think that's what
happens as fans.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
You start, you know, down this road, and you can't
think rationally. So that guy is not thinking rationally at all.
But there is something to be said at some point.
I mean, wouldn't you think the Cowboys have to break
through at some point? I mean, after thirty years, it's just, uh,
(07:05):
the law of averages. Now. I know, you can look
at other teams saying, hey, has it happened? You look
at the Carolina Panthers, your team, Chad, But you know
there's also it seems like there's more, for whatever reason,
seems like there's more hope for the Carolina Panthers than
there is the Dallas Cowboys because it's almost like unknown.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Entity at your boys got a couple, got some rings, man,
I said, my boys, they went twice and come up,
and so you know.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
That's right. Yeah, but you've gett you've been there a lot.
It hasn't been as long since you've been there than
for the Dallas Cowboys. But I did see ticket prices.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Not much, that's right, Cowboys. It tastes.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
That's right. Well, I did see ticket prices seem to
be actually pretty high for a preseason game for the
Panthers tonight. Is there a lot of interest for the
Panthers maybe so?
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Huh, yeah, I think a lot of is the hopover
Sineer Sanders.
Speaker 6 (08:15):
People just curious at anything.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
They're just curious how that kid is gonna play.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Yes, there's no question.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
I think of Panthers first string defense on shut it down.
Speaker 7 (08:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
But football is here, though, Chad, that's what everybody's excited about.
So we do know that, and we appreciate you giving
us a call, sir. You call any time, and you
have a fantastic weekend.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Well strange man, we're gonna be turning in like.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Always, Yes, sir, thank you appreciate it. Chad, the Vending
King and anybody else give us a call eight six
four two four zero five four eight zero. Get that
numbers eight six four two four zero five four zero.
All right, But I did before we go to this break,
I did want to talk just a couple more minutes
(09:06):
about North Carolina and Bill Belichick. And yes, there's I
know I'm in the majority here, but you can't tell
me there's not going to be a lot of eyeballs
to see what happens with North Carolina. No, yeah, everyone
is North Carolina. Yeah, but because it's Bill Belichick, right, right,
(09:30):
and can he have success in college? Most of the
times we're seeing it just the opposite that you have
a college football head coach that then jumps to the NFL, right,
and we want to see what type of success that
they can have, And a lot of times that has
(09:50):
not panned out very well for these head coaches. There's
only a handful that have been able to have that jump.
And I know you can look at like a Pete Carroll,
but remember he was in the NFL, went to college,
and then back to the NFL, right, you know, so
that's a little bit different. But it's somebody like a
Jimmy Johnson though talking about the Dallas Cowboys. Going from
(10:11):
Miami to the Dallas Cowboys, that is success A Nick
Saban didn't work out for him, right, And now there's
still rumors, you know, from a perspective, that would he
come back to coaching, but it would would it be
in the NFL to try to get that quote unquote
bad taste out of people's mouths. He didn't have success
(10:31):
there in the NFL. But this is something that we
haven't seen a legendary Hall of Fame NFL head coach
go to college at seventy plus years old. I mean,
are you kidding me? And then knowing that it is
with a program that has been quote unquote called a
sleeping giant for years, and that this is a team that, hey,
(10:57):
just with the right things, they could be that successful
type of team. And is Bill Belichick? Is he that guy?
And as we talked about, sometimes it's just one play,
it's just one player, it's just one game that can
change the trajectory of an organization. And so is Bill Belichick?
Is he the one change there at North Carolina that
(11:20):
will make them a true football type of school. We
know it's a basketball school. I totally understand that, but
you can't tell me that North Carolina doesn't have the resources,
doesn't have the facilities, and doesn't have a little bit
of the history that they can have some success. But
I mean, this is a program though that there's forty
(11:41):
one transfers coming into this team. This is a team
that nobody really knows anything about other than we know
that Bill Belichick is a hell of an NFL coach.
We have no idea what he can do on the
college level, and how is that going to equate to
success with these players at college?
Speaker 7 (11:59):
Right?
Speaker 8 (11:59):
Well, so I will contend to you know, this is
a team, or I guess an organization. I want to
call it a team because I'm thinking football, But this
is an organization, a university that has had the resources
to your point, but now it has something else, and
that is a draw a pool that is Bill Belichick
to pull in those bigger players that maybe otherwise may
have been a little more difficult to pull Because you're
(12:20):
talking about coming from high school to college and committing
to a college. You want to go somewhere where you're
gonna win a championship or you think you have a
shot to win a championship, and North Carolina while it's
had the resources. To your point, it is a basketball school.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
Well, this is two things that I truly believe when
you're recruiting in college, and I know right now people
can say, oh, it's all about the money. It's in
il to an extent revshare. Yes, that is going to
have a factor into the equation. As we saw, there's
(12:55):
the top recruit for the twenty twenty seven class, the
defensive edge out of Savannah, Georgia, who just committed to
Texas Tech based on as reported sources are saying that
it's a three year deal nine hundred thousand dollars his
first year. He still has two years of high school
(13:15):
left trying, right, I know, I mean, are are we crazy?
And so I totally understand that that money can definitely
be involved. But at the end of the day, there's
no doubt that recruits are going to look at a program,
and especially when you're looking at college football, it's can
(13:39):
you help me develop to get to the NFL? And
then two can I win a championship?
Speaker 7 (13:45):
Absolutely?
Speaker 1 (13:46):
And then if those two are all equal to everything else,
then yeah, then money's going to be a factor, or
it might just be a different situation. Right that based
on on certain dynamics of a person's life, that money
is topping everything, and so that happens just in life
(14:10):
in general, there's no doubt. But that's why you look
at North Carolina. You can't tell me some of these
players are not saying, well, Bill Belichick, there's a guy
that can develop somebody to get to the NFL. That
would be the guy goes what it takes to get
to the NFL. And Okay, then maybe we can win
at North Carolina because they have had some success in
(14:32):
the past and football just have not been able to
really get over the hump. So I think big time
I'm going to be fascinated to watch North Carolina because
also I think they have a relatively easy schedule compared
to other teams, especially in the ACC and the rest
(14:52):
of college football, So it might not take a whole
lot to have some immediate success. And no, in that
there's already just a change of landscape, so to speak,
you know, with Bill Belichick coming in, So you can't
tell me that you might not already have some momentum
just based on that scenario right there. So it will
(15:13):
be fascinating to see. But you can join the conversation.
Let us know any of your thoughts about this or
whatever you have on your mind. Eight six four two
four zero five four eight zero. And before we hit
the Sprek, let's head out to the Ingles hotline right now,
the Richmond Weaver Show. Who's this?
Speaker 4 (15:29):
Hey, this is Sean Richmond a Chrey.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
How's it going, Sean doing fantastic Sean? How about you, sir?
Speaker 4 (15:36):
I'm good, Sarah, how are you? I called? Yes, We're
gonna spread a little quincon hey today, I'm must spread
a little bit of cowboys.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
Hey, Oh my goodness, Okay, cowboys.
Speaker 4 (15:50):
That's all we hear about the cowboys. The Cowboys. I
grew up. I don't know if you know this, Richmond,
but I grew up in DC. I was a Redskins
fan my whole life. I just switched Allegiance like a
year ago to the Panthers because, like I said, I
went to so many games.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
But that's right, I grew up.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
I'm basically probably older than you are. I grew up
in the you know your last slump, which was like
back with the Doomsday Defense Brandy White, Tony dor said
all that stuff. You know that as a kid, I
(16:30):
still I still hate them. I really do. Uh a
little bit more of this Cowboys hate. Number one, you
cannot you cannot be America's team with five super Bowls.
You gotta at least have six, because Patriots and the
Steelers have, So you're not America's team.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
Well I like the criteria, okay, So I didn't know
that that was the exact criteria that you'd have six
super Bowls. And I will notate that.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
With the forty nine Ers. You're up throw for forty
nine ers, you know. I mean you're not up there
with the Steelers though, and you're not up there with
the Patriots. And you know, twenty five years they got six,
you got five. Tom Brady's got seven, you got five.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
I know a quarterback that's right? Yes, Well, how many
do those commanders have? Those Redskins have versus and also
the Panthers, So we could we can go down that
road too, we now.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
Now, back in your drought days, you know, we had
jokes iveman John Reagans, you know remember that John Reagan's Yeah,
Miami Dolphins across the goal line. I mean, yeah, we
were tough, the well Redskins commanders whatever.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
Yes, I still look at as the Redskins because Sean,
I would have to say that I do distinctly remember
as a kid when it was Redskins and Cowboys playing.
And this is I'm going back to the Roger Stall
back days also and then to Danny White. So I'm
I'm old enough to remember those days. And that's when
(18:15):
I first fell in love with the Cowboys. Even had
a Dallas Cowboys bicycle when I was six years old.
I mean, that's what I remember. So I remember those
type of games, and I remember the Thanksgiving games between
Dallas and Washington. That was for me the epitome of
NFL at the time.
Speaker 4 (18:34):
Oh yeah, yeah, Cowboys versus Indians. Man, it was great,
and man, I used to love it too. But like
I said, you know, you guys didn't have anything on
the Redskins though, because we we My favorite wide receiver
of all time.
Speaker 5 (18:50):
Is our Monk.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
I mean, I mean, we just had it. You know,
we had the greatest head coach besides Bill Belichick in
my opinion, with Joe Gibbs.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Greatest greatest coach of all time, and well to.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
Well, we lost that one Super Bowl to the Raiders.
I think it was eighty one something like that.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
I was I was crossed.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
I was a kid. But you know, we want our
share with Mark Riffin, with Doug Williams, the first flack Williams.
That's right, and that's that's very historical because that was
the first flat quarterback to ever win a Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
Yes, that is correct, and I believe and it does
and it does seem that the Commanders do seem to
be uh somewhat on the rise. So maybe it's time
you can jump back on the bandwagon again and support
the Commanders. Can't do it, Okay, Well there you.
Speaker 4 (19:48):
Go, says I'm done.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
I'm done, alright, all right, said.
Speaker 4 (19:54):
On the other show, he said, man, you've picked the
wrong time to switch.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
Yeah, that's right, he definitely did. Yes, and Sean, we
appreciate the phone call, sir, I think yes.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
The giant eggs.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
Okay, that's two people that think that, Yes, both you
and Chad. Yes, that's right there. We'll we'll see how
Shador does play tonight. And so I'm anxious to see.
And I know a lot of people of all things
are going to be watching a preseason game on a
Friday night between the Panthers and the Browns. Who would
have ever thought that we would be saying that. But Sean,
(20:32):
we got to hit this break and we appreciate you
calling you call anytime, sir. We enjoyed the conversation.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
All right, buddy, appreciate you.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
Thank you, Sean. All Right, we will continue this Friday
edition of the Richmond Weaver Show, presented by our good
friends at Ingles Markets, right here on one of four
nine Fox Sports Upstate as we continue our two right
after this, our two of the Richmond Weavers Show continues
right here on one of four nine Fox Sports Upstate
(20:59):
present by Ingles Markets. And as we are rolling through
this Friday and something that we haven't done in a while,
but we've really wanted to focus on doing this. We
do weekend's best coming back on Monday. But how about
our MVP of the week. It's time we get that
going again, mister Trey Falco. And so let's take a
(21:20):
look at who might have had some great performances this
week in the world of sports.
Speaker 9 (21:26):
It's time to shine with this week's MVP.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
I'm the MVP, all right, how about this show? Hey,
Otani and I don't know if we really understand mister Falco,
just how ridiculous it is, how good he is where
he is going from the pitching mound and then directly
(21:51):
at times he might have to lead off the next
inning as a batter. And I mean, it's insane when
you think about how oh he has to compartmentalize and
switch his mind so fast that he's out there throwing
strikes and then goes out there and then trying to
hit home runs. I mean, it is amazing. I don't
know if we really understand and if you watch him
(22:12):
play this past week and again, not from a just
statistical standpoint, I'm just saying that, Wow, I don't understand.
I don't think we understand how difficult that transition is.
So sho hey Otani, man, he is an outstanding performer
this week. How about this? Also in Major League Baseball,
(22:35):
Shay Langelier's for the Athletics this past week had five hits,
four extra base hits, three home runs a leadoff home run,
and no other catcher in Major League Baseball history has
accomplished all four of those single game feats over his
entire career. No, no, and he did aim, yes exact,
(23:00):
my goodness, Yes, that's an m v P NO performance
uh yeah, no doubt. But I do have to go
with this one. How about the mister Jameis Winston. If
you missed the clip there with the New York Giants
and there's some people we talked about it. Trey, Hey,
have him QB one. He's he is entertaining. But as
(23:23):
you hear on the clip here, basically the quarterbacks had
another they threw the ball and hit the crossbar, then
practice would be over. And here's how it sounded.
Speaker 10 (23:36):
Good work, good work again accomplished here all right, here's
the deal.
Speaker 4 (23:41):
All four quarterbacks are gonna.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
Have a chance. If he hits the cross bar, then
walk through is done tonight.
Speaker 9 (23:51):
There's no no, don't negotiate with me, Dexter, Hey.
Speaker 5 (23:57):
But I just I do want to tell you we
got got Bible study at three thirty during the snack period,
and y'all faith is going.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
To determine me here is.
Speaker 9 (24:11):
No no, no.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
No.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
No. I gotta tell y'all know, alright, who's going to
Bible study?
Speaker 9 (24:22):
Who's going to Bible study?
Speaker 1 (24:28):
Who's going to Bible study at snack period at three thirty?
Speaker 7 (24:31):
That is the most Jameis Winstington I've ever seen.
Speaker 1 (24:34):
That is that epitomizes Jameis Winston. Right there, my MVP
of the week, right there, Bible study, having the faith.
He hits the cross bar, absolutely entertaining. Fantastic, Well done,
mister Jameis Winston. Let us know who you might have
an MVP this week. Eight six four two four zero
(24:56):
five four eight zero. Again that number is eight six
four two four zero five four a zero. And I
know I've got Neil on the Engles hotline right now. Neil.
Good afternoon to you, sir, Thanks for joining on this
Friday edition.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
Thanks for having me Richmond. Now, Richmond, before I get
into what I want to talk about, Okay, you know
I love you. Okay, Now, Falcon and I had just
had a really good laugh off the air that you
have to ask him about, and you're gonna get a
good laugh yourself. However, I want to get into something
that Richmond was talking about earlier that I'm a little
disappointed in Richmond on the Okay, I'm the big baseball guy.
(25:33):
I'm not. However, it got me thinking you were talking
about Netflix. I heard father were talking about Netflix, and
then I heard you bring up about maybe baseball needs
to after one inning of teams being tied, you know,
nine innings and they play one extra inning, go to
a home run deer be kind of like they did
in the All Star Game. Well, did I hear you
correctly on that, rich before I throw you under the bus.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
Yes, you did, And you bring that bus because I
will let you, because I'm I'm telling you, I'm going
to stand on that mountaintop, on that hill until this happens,
and I'm going to shout it from the mountaintop that yes, baseball,
you need to have a home run derby to settle
a tide game. It brings fans, it brings excitement, and
(26:16):
why not try to do something a little different?
Speaker 10 (26:19):
Okay, Falca, are you listening, yes, sir? Okay, This why
right here, Falco, is why I'm a little disappointed in you,
Not just because you're not big daddy.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
All unintended right, okay, But I'm also I'm also disappointed
in you because you didn't call Richmond's horrible takeout right
there on this baseball thing. Now, well wait a minute, Richmond,
before you jump in. I know you're going to defend yourself.
Baseball is already bad enough. I mean, where we have
(26:51):
to sit around and watch guys try to hit three
run homers every single time, even when there's nobody on base.
I mean, it is sad to watch baseball. Okay, however,
but you got me thinking because I was thinking, I
was like, what I actually like to see that? And
I wouldn't the reason being, Now, if you could go
back pre Sports Center, I probably love it. But every
single play of the game is either a home run
(27:13):
or it's a touchdown. It's the same crap that everybody
can do. It's a slam dunk. So I started thinking
about it, and I was like, wait a minute, now,
maybe Richmond's actually on to something that I didn't like
the idea first, and then I started thinking about it.
I was like, wait a minute. But then it got
me thinking something else, which are the dumbest rules in sports?
So I actually wrote these down for you, rich and
we're going.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
To go through them.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
I know you're up against the time. I never got
about six minutes here, so I'm going to start in baseball. Okay,
double play, I think it's even triple play. It's like
giving a team in the NFL four downs and saying, okay,
but if the defense makes the spectacular play, we're going
to count that as two downs, maybe even three if
it was that good. It's the dumbest thing. I just
(27:54):
hate it. That's one of the reasons I hate baseball.
You can get two guys on base and get a
triple play and you got three outs. To me, stupid. Okay,
Second thing in baseball, runner on second, starting into tenth innings,
you're just giving guys three bases for no reason. I'd
rather sit there for twenty Now I wouldn't go to
a game, but if I was a baseball fan, I
would love to sit there for twenty five innings and
(28:14):
watch them go back and forth. Okay, last thing in baseball,
and then I'll let you comment, rich wild pitch. Guy
strikes out. It's a wild pitch, and he goes to
first base. The dumbest rule in all of baseball. You
tell me how that makes any sense at all. It's like, Okay,
Tom Brady, that was an incomplete pass, but you know what,
(28:36):
it was such a pretty ball. We're gonna go ahead
and give you a reward. You a first down. Anyways,
it is the dumbest thing ever in all of baseball.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
Your comments, sir, the biggest one that I have an
issue with is your second one, and that's putting a
man on second base. That is completely outside of what
you would traditionally see in a sports. Now you could say,
like in college football the overtime rules, Oh, you're putting
the ball at the twenty five yard line, so you're
(29:06):
manufacturing that. So I do understand maybe that's an analogy,
but I do not like that one at all. The
third strike, yes, it doesn't visually and aesthetically look like
that should be part of baseball, but it's basically, hey,
the catcher, you got to catch the ball, you know,
So there is that part of it. And hey, I'm
(29:26):
okay with you being able to get a triple play.
Let's see what your defense can do. Now where I
would go is going to soccer. One of the rules
that I don't like is the offsides in soccer or
off sides in hockey. Hey, sorry, defense, if you can't
get back, that's on you. If I can outrun you,
then that's just the reality of it. So that's one
of the rules that would That was something that I
(29:51):
questioned and probably one of the reasons why I get
frustrated with soccer.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
Okay, so the people listening at home and Richmond just
stole my thunder for part two, which is soccer all sides,
is the one I had written down. The other one
is pilody shots in a huge tournament game, whether it
be the World Cup or whether they don't do it
in the World Cup, but they do it in a
lot of these big tournaments. And it's the dumbest thing ever.
You play for one hundred and twenty minutes after ninety
minutes of time, and then thirty minutes of stoppage. Oh okay,
(30:18):
nobody won. Let's go to penalties. It's stupid. Let's get
the football real quick so I can make some comments. Okay,
this is one that drives me crazy. First of all,
sudden death in eating football to me, sucks. Just let
them play fifteen minutes, ten minutes each, get each get
the ball something. Don't make it sudden death. Okay. Second
of all, this is the one that drives me crazy.
And football. Then I'm gonna get one more that I'm
(30:38):
gonna get my comments. Okay, fifteen yards right before a touchdown,
whether it's on the extra they get, they have the
opportunity to take it on an extra point on the kickoff.
Everybody takes it on.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
The kickoff, so they move the ball back.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
The kicker still can kick it through the end zone
even from the twenty or wherever they're kicking it from
at that point. Take it after the kickoff, make them
penalize them because they're at the end of the day.
They're still getting in that the twenty five at that
point or third to thirty. Now, it makes no sense
Teckett after the kickoff, So if they're supposed to start
at the thirty, they will start at the fifteen. You're
(31:12):
not penalizing them because they still get it exactly where
they would have gotten it before.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
Yeah. Well, and that is based on now kickers are
so much different than they used to be and the
power that they have. It wasn't that way it seemed
fifteen twenty years ago. I do understand that my one
in football would be I do not like the defensive
holding and it's an automatic first down. I think that's
(31:39):
too egregious that you have that type of scenario where
just a holding and you give the team an automatic
first down because it's so subjective. And then also the
other one in football that I do not like in
college football is if you are called for targeting. Then
(32:00):
you're not only ejected from the game, but you also
have to sit out a half, and that is way
too punitive for some of these players. No way should
you be completely ejected and then have to sit out
the next game. It's not changing how these guys are tackling,
and I can promise you that, and it's way too punitive.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
Okay, let me get to my last one so I
can make my three or four comments. I know you
up against this, so last one and I'll take this
off the air. All this off the air. You don't
have to comment on this one. It's the dumbest rule
in all the sports. The crowd has to be quiet
when guys are golfing. Tiger Woods is up, so you
got to be quiet. No other sport do the fans
have to be quiet when guys are shooting free throws.
They're going crazy. Let us watch Tiger Woods and all
(32:46):
these other knuckleheads hit the ball when there's one hundred
thousand people screaming at them. That would be fun. Anyways,
going to the NFL tonight, quickly, I heard about Anthony Richardson.
Good thing for the calls is his accuracy is probably
going to be the same with or without the pinky finger.
So they're good there, Ben Johnson not starting Caleb Williams.
This is why we get too much credit to guys.
(33:08):
Detroit was good last year, not because of Ben Johnson.
Detroit was good because they have some of the best
players in the NFL. They have top three or four
roster in football. That's why they were good. I don't
think Ben Johnson's gonna be good in Chicago, and I
think Caleb Williams is a big reason why. And one
other thing, and then I'll take my last coming off
the air. I heard Shine call and I was over
here applauding him. He's a cowboy hater, He's a Clinton hater.
(33:32):
And then I started thinking. I was like, wait a minute,
old Richmond. He found me kind of drunk. And I
like Seane because I've heard him before, but he found
it a little drunk, and I'm like, what, That's what
happens when you let me and Chad call every day
and we always sound like we're a little drunk or
a little something wrong with us. So I'm gonna take
my last comment off the air with you, rich And
that is what Lawrence Taylor said in the water boy,
(33:55):
and that brings me to my last point. Kids don't
smoke right.
Speaker 1 (34:02):
Thank you, Neil. We appreciate it. Don't do drugs. There
you go. Wise advice there from Neil. And we always
appreciate the entertaining calls from Neil, Sean, Chad Brody, everybody, Billy,
keep calling. We want you to join the convert welcome
it to be part of the community. Right here on
(34:22):
the Richmond Weaver Show presented by Ingles Markets, and we'll
continue hour two right after this. Our two of the
Richmond Weavers Show, presented by our good friends at Ingles Markets,
continues right here on one O four nine. Fix Sports upstate
as we are in Columbia, South Carolina had a radio
affiliate luncheon earlier today. Head coach Shane Biemer was there,
(34:44):
spoke to everybody. It was absolutely fantastic and mister Trey
Falco back in studio and hey, mine had a little
hot mic there, Trey. It's okay. Technology. We're trying to
figure out exactly some of the board at time because
we've had some grimlins on that board right. I mean,
it's the craziest thing where it seems like every day
we've had some type of little issue that you've had
(35:05):
to somehow come up with solutions. So I appreciate all
your yeoman's work. Thank you.
Speaker 7 (35:09):
That was that.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
Well, what did we talked about earlier? Though? These chaotic situations?
All right, when you've got me over here chirping in
your ear, we've got Neil on the line, you've got
other people trying to call in, and you're trying to
make sure the music is going to be set for
the coming out of each break, and making sure that
the commercials are going to be fired off, and just
(35:36):
knowing that that's all happening in a few seconds. And
that's what we talked about. Sometimes, Hey, it happens when
we're in those chaotic situations. Sometimes you're exactly I Try.
You are the quarterback man. Try. You got to get
that processor moving a little bit faster. But we want
you to join the conversation. Eight six four two four
(35:56):
zero five four eight zero. Let's head out to the
Engles hot line right now. We've got Billy on the line. Hello, Billy,
how are you this Friday afternoon?
Speaker 2 (36:06):
Sir?
Speaker 6 (36:08):
If I was any better, I couldn't stand it. Hopefully
you guys are the same. Listen, I'll be I'll be brief.
I've got two show related issues or comments and then
one sports related. Let's do the sports related first, Richmond,
I'm gonna cheer you up. You know, as bad as
saying darn Dallas, it could be worse. After watching Indianapolis
last night, you know, we could have many dimes. Or
Richardson is our quarterback, and you know I'm not a
(36:29):
big Dak fan, but he's definitely better than both of them.
So that's our.
Speaker 7 (36:33):
Sports related thing.
Speaker 6 (36:35):
Now here we go with our our two show related things.
You know, I was I've heard the promo plenty of
time for Brodie calls in or he's I think he's
on set with John somewhere, and he's talking about Chad
having three pens ready. And then after I heard him,
after I've heard him today, I realized how he knew that,
because after he caught that past he was talking about,
(36:55):
he was looking around but after the time out to
start signing autographs after the game, and then they ended
up losing.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
That's right.
Speaker 6 (37:02):
Now we know how he knew that, Okay. And then
the last thing is, as far as all those things
Neil was complaining about, I can guarantee you. I know
this for a fact. Most of those are gangling related
and that's how he remembers those things. Just trust me
on that, and that's the reason why anyway, I'll hang
up and listen. You guys have a wonderful weekend.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
Thank you, Billy. We appreciate it how many times. And
life there's always some other story about why we feel
a certain way. There is a genesis to every feeling
that we have, and especially from a frustration standpoint. So yes,
I am going to side with Billy on that that
there's been some call there that Neil has been off
(37:46):
the rails based on that and has decided that that's
going to be something that he is not going to enjoy.
But Billy, we appreciate you giving us a call. And again,
we love the community, We love the banter. You might
have hot mics at times, we might have technology grimmins
or whatever, but it's life, it's sports, it's something that
we will continue to talk about, have fun and enjoying it.
(38:08):
So make sure you join the conversation eight six' four
two four zero five four eight. Zero and we do
have a little bit of breaking news as we're down
here In, colombia As South carolina did just get a.
Commitment four star running Back Amari thomas committed To South
carolina Over Florida, State Georgia, tech And. Colorado so another

carolina when they play each. Other that's my montul right.
