We are in full force here in studio. Mister Trey

(01:20):
Falco behind the board and behind the mic. As always
been a crazy past couple of days, and we're not
even through today as of yet. Right yesterday down in
Atlanta for SEC football Media Days, and then this morning
I was over in Clemson for a local media opportunity
with the coaching staff there at Clemson and Dabo Sweeney

(01:41):
having a press conference at one pm earlier this afternoon.
So all types of things are happening right now with
college football, the excitement, and we do know SEC Media
Days are still going on down in Atlanta, and then
also we have ACC football Media Days next week and
Southern Conference Football Media Day next week, so a lot

(02:04):
of opportunities to get ready to talk about some college
football and going to Clemson. It does reiterate just the
anticipation that I'm excited about with this whole narrative tray,
that both Clemson and South Carolina have high expectations. Yes,

(02:26):
I know that Clemson might have somewhat of a higher
expectations based on some of the narratives right now that
Clemson with their quarterback Caid club Nick coming back, and
also the wide receiving corps and when you have some
of the defensive studs that they have there with TJ.
Parker on the edge of Peter Woods there at the

(02:48):
defensive tackle and the linebacking corps led by Wade Wood.
As in freshman sensation Sammy Brown, a lot of people
felt that he should have been playing a lot more.
So there's an opportunity where Clemson could get back into
that national discussion as far as competing for a national championship.
And then you also have what we talked about yesterday,

(03:10):
South Carolina maybe not flying under the radar, but still
kind of may be viewed as a little bit of
an underdog, that engine that could you know, that type
of thing, and can they make that leap, you know,
going from nine to four, can they get to double
digits right there in terms of wins and possibly even
do that in the regular season, And then just the

(03:32):
anticipation of what it might look like if both teams
are really good come at the end of the year.
Oh yeah, oh yes, I mean, how exciting would that be?
And so yesterday I actually got an opportunity to talk
to Leonora Sellers about that when we were in Atlanta
at SEC Media Day. So here's my question to Leonora Sellers.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
Mean for the state of South Carolina. That both Clemson
and South Carolina are in the national.

Speaker 4 (03:59):
Narrative, it means a lot. I think as much as
South Carolina clips and fans probably don't like each other,
if both teams ended up and like let's say the
National Championship playing against each other, or even in a
playoff game against each other, to mean a lot just
for the state in general.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
You talking about meaning a lot for the state? Dude?

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Can you imagine what this state would be like coming
off of the rivalry game, the Paul Metal Bowl there
in Colombia at noon on November twenty ninth, and then
follow that up and they actually meet in the college
football playoffs, this state might come unglued. He might a

(04:39):
little like Philadelphia exactly.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
We're not disparaged in Philadelphia, no.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
No, but just talking about after they win a game,
like when they win the Super Bowl, Man, they riot,
they go absolutely bonkers, and they're trying to celebrate in
a positive way, but it gets a little bit out
of hand, right, I get that same thing here, but
it would be insane, and especially.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
In the National Championship game.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
I can't even imagine, And I know we've seen it
a few times in the College World Series.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
Clemson in South Carolina.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
I have met in the College World Series, but it
wasn't for the title was not on the line. But
it's still an opportunity of meeting in the postseason with
that opportunity of.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
Winning a national championship.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
And that's why I'm all about sign me up, Let's
go South Carolina, Let's go Clemson. I want to see
both teams on that upper trajectory, so when they meet
at the end of the year and then I want
them to be able to potentially meet again. I would
love it. And I know you can get beat I
get it. It's rivalry games, rivalry teams, you know all

(05:43):
of that. But you can't win a national championship without
sometimes having to play some of the big boys.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
That's part of it, you know, It's part of you
can't get afraid of who you're going to play.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
And that's why I just think it would be tremendous
for the state of South Carolina on a national perspective,
national narrative, and having both teams to have that type
of level of success, right. And that's where we get
into that conversation we had last week when we looked
at the top one hundred rivalries all time in college football.
Do you know what it would do for Clemson in Carolina?

(06:19):
South Carolina for that rivalry, do you want know how
far it would catapult them if they met on a
national level in the playoffs?

Speaker 3 (06:26):
Not I mean Natty would be insane, but even.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Just in a playoff game, Yes, to be able to
showcase what this fan base, what this state loves, and
how much this rivalry means. You want to talk about
feeling disrespected at twenty four you meet the playoffs, Dude,
it would be everybody. It would be absolutely bonkers, And
I think there's something to be said about that. That's why, again,

(06:52):
I know I'm somewhat in the minority that I keep
preaching it. I want South Carolina to win all of
their games, except when they play Clemson.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
That's when I do not want them to win.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
I'm a Clemson grad, right, Yes, there are times I'm
wearing my orange colored glasses, But in that situation, hey,
go ahead.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
I want you to be the best of the best.
So when we meet, we're beating the best of the best. Exactly.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
That means we're better, exactly, That's right. There's something to
brag about at that point. I mean, yes, you can
still brag. I you're beating your rivalry. Your rival, I
should say, but what is Hey, well, I guess the
SEC it means more.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
Well, that's true. Remember propaganda that does happen, all right.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
So here's something that I do want to talk about, uh,
in college football, because I did see this, and this
is according to Pete Nakos on three, and they surveyed
stakeholders across college football, including head coaches, administrators, general managers,
nil collectives, and agents.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
And so they have a top ten.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
That they were able to put together of the biggest spenders.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
In college football. Now, this is according to a survey.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
This is not a situation where they know exactly all
of the details all of the numbers, but according to
Pete Nakos of on three, this is the top ten.
So what I want to do though, is actually, this
is what I'm wanting to accomplish here. Okay, and Trey,
we didn't get a chance to really talk about this

(08:25):
other than we were going to talk about right, the
top ten because our production meeting was very short today.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
It was Yeah, but what I want to.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Do is I want us to earmark this date, So
July fifteenth, all right, and earmark this content right here,
because how many times do we talk about, oh, you know,
all of the teams that are spending the most money
are always going to win the championships.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
I feel like we talk about that quite often, quite often.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
Yeah, in any sport, in any sport, does that mean
that the bottom feeders so to speak, can't win national
championships or can't win championships?

Speaker 3 (09:05):
No, it does not.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
But it also doesn't automatically mean that the New York
Yankees or the LA Dodgers are going to win every
single year in Major League Baseball. Now, yes, they're consistently competitive,
so there is an advantage there. But I'm just curious
here on July fifteenth, let's take a look at this
top ten.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
And I've got.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
The Vegas over and under as far as win totals
for each of these teams. So what I want to
do at the end of the season, We're going to
go back, okay and look at this and see if
there's any correlation or what type of correlation, because there
will be some correlation, what type of correlation spending and

(09:46):
how it affects the win totals for these teams and
where they finish the season.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
Okay, so that's what we're going to take a look at.
That's why.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
So right now number ten is an okay, yes, let's
actually speak it a yes, lit's say we're going yes,
we're going full official here. Top ten, all right, Number
ten according to the biggest spenders in college Football from
on three. The survey that they did is the Auburn Tigers.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
All right, So Auburn Tigers.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
There Hugh Freeze with the Tigers and how that's going
to play out with him as head coach, and obviously
can they make some type of resurgence. So their win total,
according to Vegas is seven and a half. That's their
overam O seven and a half. So we'll circle that.
So at seven and a half, will they get more
than seven and a half wins this season?

Speaker 3 (10:41):
Based on they're spending a lot of money? Oh yeah,
all right.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
The Tennessee Volunteers at number nine, and now we saw
that they made the College Football play Off. Josh Hipel
seems to be in that position of moving things forward. Tennessee.
Their win total is eight and a half. So the
end of the season, we're going to come back and
see were they able to win more than that or
what were they able to win based on them spending

(11:11):
the ninth most. Now again this is according to a survey.
This doesn't mean that for sure, but I think they've
got a good indication as far as their perception.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
We do no tennessee spending some money.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
Yes they are, Yes, so we'll see if they can
surpass eight and a half wins. And number eight is
the Michigan Wolverine. Yes, there they are, and we know
they just won a national championship two years ago. Yeah,
Jim Harball. Now, but there's a lot of upheaval going
on Michigan. There's still the scandals you know that they've

(11:44):
been investigated about and how that's going to play out.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
But they're over under eight and a half.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
Wins also, so we'll check that out at the end
of the year to see how they measured up. Number
seven Southern col Lincoln Riley. There's no doubt he's on
the hot seat. I mean, he's got.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
To win more.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
And especially if you're spending this type of money and
you're over under seven and a half, you better be
well over seven and a half.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Without a doubt.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
So there's something to be said that Lincoln Riley there
at USC is on the hot seat, and we are
looking at the Miami Hurricanes sitting there at number six,
the first ACC school or who is it the only
ACC school.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
That's in the top ten.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
Yes, it is the Miami Hurricanes and Mario Cristobal. He
seems to be that guy that seems to be turning around.
But when it really matters, Miami's just not able to
come through, just like we saw last year. And that's
why Clemson fans are still thinking. Friend Brown at Syracuse,
thank you Syracuse for upsetting Miami.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
Oh there, or Clemson.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Doesn't even play for an ACC championship, and then there's
no way Clemson is in the College Football Playoff if
they don't have that opportunity because they got the automatic
bid by winning the ACEC Championship.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
Miami nine and a half game win total. There, they're
over and under.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
So we'll see how that measured out at the end
of the year for the Miami Hurricanes. All right, Number five,
Texas A and m Mike Elko here we go.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
We know there's going to be a Texas school in there.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
For certain, they're going to spend money, yes, and it's
Texas A and M. My goodness, how many years have
they been spending money and they still haven't been able
to break through? Can Mike Elko? Can he be that guy?
Can he be the guy who breaks the dysfunction at
Texas A and M? And you know it does money
eventually solve some of the problems. And I'm a big

(13:50):
believer that money can make things convenient, no question about it,
but it can't always solve the problems. But Miami, I mean,
but excuse me, Texas A and M. They're sitting there at.

Speaker 3 (13:59):
Seven and a half win total. They're over and under.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
And again, if you want to be a legitimate team,
you better be over seven and a half, that's obvious.
But Texas A and M spending a lot of money,
but only seven and a half game win total right there.
For they're over under. So we'll see how that plays
out at the end of the year. The Oregon Ducks,
mister Phil Knight, Yes, I should say it's the Phil

(14:25):
Knight Ducks. That's because we know that Nike is putting
a lot of money into the Oregon program, and not
just football, just overall everything there at Oregon now this
is where it starts getting interesting because Oregon they're over
under their win total ten and a half. So there's

(14:45):
high expectations there. Obviously at Oregon it should be. And
Oregon was a team that I felt was actually going
to play for a national championship last year and we
just got boat raced by Ohio State in the College
Football Playoff, So there's definitely some expectations there.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
They've lost a lot of players, but they have been able.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
To reload and again they're spending the money at number
four and their win total is ten and a half.
The Ohio State buck guys the national champions coming off
of last year that championship with Ryan Day, we know
they're spending money for certain. They've talked about it that

(15:23):
they have not been bashful and trying to hide anything.
Even the athletic directors come out and said, yeah, we're
going to spend and so, knowing that right now, Ohio
State with that expectation, trying to get back to the
national championship game, trying to win back to back national
championships and spending the money as they are. Their win

(15:44):
total is ten and a half, so come at the
end of the season, we'll see have they been able
to surpass that ten and a half or again not
so much that a it's a success if you just
meet this, but where do you finish the season?

Speaker 3 (15:59):
In relations?

Speaker 2 (16:00):
Obviously an opportunity for a national championship.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
All right, this was my surprise. People.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
It's a Texas school and it's not Texas. It's not
SMU because SMU's got up there. Even though again SMU
they're going to be spending some money also. But according
to the survey with on three sports from the stakeholders
from head coaches, administrators, general managers, nil.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
Collectives and agents.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
According to their survey, Texas Tech is sitting there at
number two.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
Now. Cody Campbell is a huge oil billionaire.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
Graduate of Texas Tech, played offensive line there, and he's
talked about he wants to really invest a lot of
this money, not just into his program Texas Tech, which
he can do, but he's wanting to look at the
opportunity of investing it into college athletics.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
Oh wow, for reform with college athletics.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
And his mind is the same that we've talked about
that Hey, with rising tides, all boats are lifted, right,
so let's do what's best for everybody involved. Rather than
just trying to have sideload conferences, you know, competing for
their own different media rights deals. Let's have all of
college football competing for media rights deals and negotiating, you know,

(17:22):
with the ESPNS and the Fox Sports of the world,
because it's economies of scale. The more content and to have,
the more inventory you have, you have a better opportunity
of getting bigger deals. So Texas Tech is definitely spending money.
Their win total eight and a half for this season,
so we'll see how it plays out.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
At the end of their season. It is a Texas
school and it is Texas there they are.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
The Texas Longhorns are right back there at the top.
And of course they are because we're looking at the
state of Texas. You've got Texas A and M, Texas
Tech and Texas three schools in the top five in
terms of spending or the perceived spending in college football.

(18:11):
And it's no surprise that it would be Texas. Oh yeah,
because they want to win. They want to win now,
and Steve Sarkesian seems to be that guy. And we
saw they you know, made a relative run there in
the College Football Playoff last year. But now the pressure
is on them. Their win total nine and a half.

(18:32):
I think that's I'm surprised. How do they not sitting
there at ten and a half? Yeah, got arch Manning.
I thought he's supposed to be the next things in
sliced bread as far as quarterback, but he couldn't be
the starter last year.

Speaker 3 (18:44):
So there's something that we have to figure out.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
Yeah, and I think part of it is we just
haven't seen him play enough.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
That's a good point. Yeah, I think that's exactly it.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
Yeah, And I mean now I do like that he
has been able to stay at Texas. But part of
it too is they can say will of course he's
going to stay at Texas because they're spending so much money.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
He doesn't need to go anywhere. You can sit there and.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
Ride the bench and make a whole lot of money
because you know he's going to still have that opportunity
because of his last name.

Speaker 3 (19:13):
He's manning with legs. He's a manning with legs.

Speaker 2 (19:15):
Yeah, and again I do believe he is a hell
of a talent based on the limited things that I've
seen and also that I've read. So it is going
to be interesting in terms of how it's going to
play out for all of these schools. But again, so
this is July fifteenth, we're recording this and marking it down.
We're ear marking this that according to On three Sports

(19:39):
and Pete Nakos, who does a fantastic job, they surveyed
various stakeholders across college football, including head coaches, administrators, in
general managers because that's a term now we're using in
college football, crazy general managers for these programs, the nil collectives,
and the agents. And again this is it's not going

(20:00):
off of true data that we've been able to see,
but this is just going off with the survey and
the perception. Who are the biggest spenders in college football? Again,
Texas was number one, Texas Tech number two, Ohio State three,
Oregon number four, Texas A and M five, Miami sitting
there at six, Southern Cal at seven, Michigan at eight,

(20:21):
Tennessee at nine, and Auburn at ten. And so at
the end of the year, we're going to go back
and we're going to look at the win totals and
see which of these big spenders outperformed their season expectations
and we'll see does money buy you wins? Does money
buy you championships? This is one way to test it out. Yeah,

(20:42):
that's part like this, and we want you to join
the conversation eight six four two four zero five four
eight zero. Hit us up on the Ingles hotline. We're
going to take this break and we'll continue this Tuesday
edition of the Richmond Weaver Show presented by Ingles Markets
right after this uta continuing that tesday edition other Richmond

(25:00):
Weavers Show presented by Ingles Markets right here on one
O four nine Fox Sports Upstate.

Speaker 3 (25:06):
Mister Trey Falco behind the board and behind the mic.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
As always, but we also have Miguel in here helping
us out as he came in just in the middle
here and pressing buttons.

Speaker 3 (25:16):
I love it, yes, I love it.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
He jumped in there and uh, under your tutelage there,
mister trey Falco. So I know he's in good hands
and the show is in good hands as long as
you're here in the studio, because the day is great
the days that I'm in here just solo.

Speaker 3 (25:33):
Yeah, I do enjoy it, don't get me wrong.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
I mean there's something about hey, you just talking to
the microphone, you know, get you? Yes, and callers calling
in and helping out produce the show by being involved
in you know, on all of that. But it is
another side of okay, now you I mean you're thinking
on your feet.

Speaker 3 (25:50):
You are.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
Yes, it's one thing to be, you know, having the
content and making sure that the content is going out
on the air. And that's why we appreciate you listeners
invest investing your time because we do know at times
it's not always perfect. I say, at times it's probably
never right. Yes, yes, we do know it's never very close.
Yes we strive for that, but it doesn't always happen.

(26:15):
But the thing that we do always appreciate as well
as you join in the conversation eight six four two
four zero five four eight zero. Again that numbers eight
six four two four zero five four eight zero. As
we know, college football is obviously taking center stage and
more ways than one. That's you know, somewhat of a

(26:35):
pun so to speak, because we know we've got SEC
football media days going on. We had the Big twelve
last week, we got the ACC next week. And I
was there in Clemson earlier today for the local media
that Ross Taylor puts on with Clemson football each and
every year, and they do a fantastic job allowing some
of the local media to be able to have some

(26:57):
one on one time with the entire are coaching staff,
not just the coordinators which we typically see during the
week in the press conferences, and then obviously Dabo Sweeney.
And that's what I enjoyed yesterday down in Atlanta at
the SEC Football Media Day, that Steve Fink was able
to have this gaggle of local media there meet with

(27:18):
Shane Beemer and Lenora Sellers and d Q Smith and
Nick Barrett yesterday before they made their car wash tour
with all of the other entities down there with the
SEC Network and Marty and McGee and you know, all
of the main media that were there. So it's a
great opportunity to being able to showcase both teams and
again knowing that there's a lot of college football to

(27:41):
be talked about. But in Atlanta yesterday there was also
a Beyonce concert that was going on right there at
Mercedes Benz, which was close to the College Football Hall
of Fame and the Georgia World Congress Center where the
SEC Media Days were going on.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
So it's crazy.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
Then you had also the home run derby last night
there's in Atlanta, and you've got the Major League Baseball
All Star Game, yeah, going on and that's why you know,
we talked about it in our one through the Podcast
exclusive hour of The Richmond Weaver Show presented by Ingles Marcus.
And you can find that on any podcasting platform that
you prefer, and we do encourage you to at least

(28:20):
check out and try the iHeartRadio app, which you can
download through the App Store or on Google Play. But
this is the Major League Baseball All Star Game. I mean,
this is still right. I mean, for me, an all
Star game is a big deal, especially the Major League
Baseball All Star Game that seems to be the one
that has traditionally been the most competitive.

Speaker 3 (28:42):
But I'm wondering if.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
Major League Baseball and the All Star Game itself has
lost a little bit of luster, not so much because
of the All Star Game itself, but just from the
perspective of that major League Baseball is losing some of
the enthusiasm from fans, right, and does then that have

(29:05):
a carryover effect for the All Star Game?

Speaker 3 (29:07):
And even like the home run Derby.

Speaker 2 (29:10):
I'm a huge fan of the home run Derby because again,
it goes back to Neanderthal days.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
Basically, I can run.

Speaker 2 (29:17):
Faster than you, I can throw something farther than you,
I can hit something farther than you, or as many
times you know, out of this over this fence or whatever.
And to see cal Rawley being able to win the
home run derby last night for Seattle Mariners, the first
catcher to be able to do that, and he's also
leading the league in home runs right now, So you
don't always see that, and I think we major League

(29:39):
Baseball needs to really push that and you know, and
try to really embrace the opportunity of you know, really
promoting the All Star Game. And maybe they have been.
I just haven't seen a whole lot of it. And
part of it is too, Yes, I'm not as engaged
in Major League Baseball, and we've talked about it quite

(30:01):
transparently here on the show that we don't talk a
whole lot of baseball, and we know there's a lot
of baseball fans, especially Braves fans in this area. I
totally understand that, but until it gets to the playoffs,
we don't talk a whole lot of baseball. But this
is the All Star Game. I mean, this is still
something significant, but it does seem that baseball has lost
its luster. And you know, again I feel the same way,

(30:27):
like I'm not I'm not the I'm not the demographic,
I'm not the base fan.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
Yeah, so.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
My opinion probably doesn't matter a whole lot on it,
but I look at it and I'm like, I wonder.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
You know, we've talked.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
About speeding up the game, like that would help different
innovations there.

Speaker 3 (30:42):
But I also got to look at it to the season. Man,
it's a long season, and so yes, it kind of.

Speaker 2 (30:49):
It's not that it doesn't matter, but it also feels
like it doesn't matter a whole lot until it gets
there towards the end because you are playing so many
games that maybe you look at and this might be blasphemy.

Speaker 3 (31:01):
Maybe a shortened the season. Yeah yeah, no, you know,
takes a couple of games that blasphemy.

Speaker 2 (31:05):
That just seems logical to me, But it will never
happened because it's again that quote that or you know,
the saying you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.

Speaker 3 (31:14):
You know, all that started back in the bottle.

Speaker 2 (31:17):
Yes, all of that, you know, so I do understand that,
but I do think that that's why there's something about
the NFL, the scarcity. Yes, it's limited, you know, and
so there's a lot going on with baseball. But of
course join the conversation eight six four two four zero
five four eight zero, and let's head out to the
Ingles hotline right now, the Richmond Weavers show.

Speaker 5 (31:36):
Who's this, Hey, Richmond Trey and everyone else there. How
are you guys?

Speaker 2 (31:41):
A good one doing fantastic Billy? How about yourself, sir?

Speaker 5 (31:46):
Very good? And as far as your baseball topic, they're
never going to go back. A lot of people don't
realize that they used to play one hundred and fifty
four games and they expanded eight games. There you got
some reason, and I think they played less than that
even before.

Speaker 3 (31:57):
That they did.

Speaker 5 (31:58):
Once you expand, they're never going back. And you know,
they'll say, use the well, it's gonna cause problems with
the numbers as far as baseball players goes, and they'll
use that as a reason to never, you know, go
back to those lesser numbers. But anyway, it doesn't matter
to me. I do watch baseball, but I'm not into

(32:19):
the All Star Game of any of these things, and
that includes the NFL. And you know, I love the NFL.
So I want to go back to your college football topic,
and you know, I think it's very interesting that. Yeah,
I never thought about this, and I've been to Texas
twenty times. You know, I'm a traveling salesman and I
used to go to Texas a lot because that was

(32:41):
part of my area. I would leave here and go
out there, you know, several times a year. So I
know that area pretty good. Well, the Dallas Ford Worth area.
I don't know much about any of any other areas.
But the first time I went out there, it amazed me, Ay,
how hot it is out there. It was the first
and it was already one hundred degrees. And secondly, it

(33:01):
amazed me about you know, I was driving around and
I may have told you this story, so forgive me
if I'm being redundant, but I was seeing all these
you know, huge football stadium and I'm like, God, they've
got to have a lot of small colleges out here.
And I found out that those were small football Those
are small hog school stadium.

Speaker 3 (33:18):
Yes, that's right.

Speaker 5 (33:20):
And so with the advent of the NIL and profit sharing,
I do believe we're going to have another have versus
have not and the House is not going to be
the sec of the Big ten. It's going to be
Texas versus everybody else because they love football out there
and they have money and they're willing to spend.

Speaker 3 (33:37):
It, oh big time.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
And that's why I mean again, the perception is according
to the uh survey done there by on three, is
that there's three schools from the state of Texas there
in the top five and the number one and number
two Texas and Texas Tech. So the two top spots
are Texas schools. So we know with certainty that Texas

(34:03):
is all about spending some money. That I've got the
oil money there, And we even saw earlier today, five
star linebacker Tyler Atkinson on the Pat McAfee show makes
his decision. You know, is it Texas or Georgia or
you know, Clemson was remotely involved, but he picks Texas.
And you can't tell me that there's probably money involved

(34:24):
in that type of scenario there that helped him make
that decision. Again, we don't know everything, and I don't
want to speculate, but I think it's pretty safe to say, Billy,
that Texas is doing a lot in making sure that
they're going to spend their money on their rosters, and.

Speaker 5 (34:41):
That's going to bring him to my next pluck because
South Johanna's lost three or four straight. Four star guys
are better to Texas universities. And I know that Clemson
has lost at least one or two and george is
losing them now. So that I mean, when you start
talking about Georgia, who is a traditional football power, yeah,
that's always Clemson. Well listen to Degree losing players to Texas.

(35:03):
I do think listen. I know they're listen. I mean,
you've had this. This is the wild West right now.
As far as what's going on in college football. They
are going to be more uniform standards, yes, and they're
going to get some of this in control, but I
don't think we're going to see that much variation. But
especially at the top of Texas most years, they're probably
going to be number one in that, you know, along

(35:23):
with some other schools like Ohio State because of their
alumnid base in southern catl because of their alumni base
in our tradition.

Speaker 2 (35:30):
Of course, and the caveat to all of that, and
I should say the caveat. But the interesting thing that's why,
you know, I'm doing this exercise because I think a
lot of times we talk about spending and then we
don't go back and really look and evaluate. And so
now we've got this opportunity here in July fifteenth, this
is our demarcation date. Okay, we know this top ten

(35:53):
survey has come out, and so let's see at the
end of the year, at the end of the season,
we'll go back and see how it correlates. Where are
these top ten teams finish in terms of the rankings
at the end of the season, and and do they
match up with their spending, because I think that can
be interesting because as you know, Billy, it does help
to be able to spend to get the talent, and

(36:14):
it can help you win, but it's not going to
guarantee you success that it's not going to guarantee you
championships obviously.

Speaker 5 (36:20):
Well you know, you don't never know how that talent
is going to jail together. So and you know, I
think Shane Biemer and especially Dabbo knows what they're doing
with this, so I trust them. But you know, I
called to say this. South Carolina is a very big
tourism state. As you all know, I'm okay with it
adding some kind of a tourism tax. I know if

(36:40):
it's gone crazy, but there's a lot of Carolina and
Clinton fans who love football, and we would be okay
with other people coming to our beaches and our mountains
and paying a tourism tax and it going to some
type of nil. We keep some of these players.

Speaker 3 (36:54):
I love it, Billy.

Speaker 5 (36:56):
You're not sure how many state law makers listen to
the Richmond Weavers, but if they're out there, you know,
this season is done, you know, as far as making
you alls. But next year I want something like that
on the books because we've got to keep these players.
It matters. This South Carolina is becoming Florida of what
they were, you know in the eighties with coincident South Carolina,
and I don't wanted to slip away becall the money.

Speaker 3 (37:17):
There you go. I like it, Billy, and we do
have to hit this break.

Speaker 2 (37:19):
Thank you for calling, as always, my friend, and we
appreciate the kind words. And yes, so all you state
legislatures legislators out there, make sure you're listening right here
on the Richmond Weaver Show presented by English Markets, because
we'll set you straight and we'll give you some good ideas,
and our listeners are investors, they'll give.

Speaker 3 (37:37):
You some good ideas too. There you go, there'd be
a nice tax that.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
But that's the caveat too, that you have these scenarios
where states are coming up with their own laws, yep,
because they know how important it is they want their
teams to win in college football.

Speaker 3 (37:55):
That's the beauty of sports because.

Speaker 2 (37:57):
We all as fans, we want our team to be
number one. All right, We'll continue this Tuesday edition of
the Richmond Weaver Show presented by Engles Markets right after this.

Speaker 6 (39:08):
U USA US.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
The text line is always open eight six four triple
seven ninety five ninety three. Again that text line eighty
six four triple seven ninety five ninety three. And we
do appreciate all of you listeners and investors out there
participating in the text line trivia question that we had
for the past couple of weeks. And we are in

(42:46):
the works of getting some more gift cards. So and
I'm also oh, yeah'm rubbing my hands together here, yeah, clapping,
because I'm also diving into some other trivia question potential questions.
That is, because I'm I need to make sure that
there's a balance that I'm not trying to go down
my nerd stat list and you know, go too far

(43:08):
deep into the doldrums there that people might not be
able to readily access. But I do want to make
it a little bit of challenging because I know we
have some smart sports fans out there.

Speaker 3 (43:20):
That's the big thing. So I do want to make
sure to do that.

Speaker 2 (43:23):
But again, the text line is always open right here
on the Richmond Weaver Show presented by Ingles Markets eight
six' Four triple seven ninety five ninety, Three and let's
take a look at some of the latest.

Speaker 3 (43:33):
Headlines it's only one game plan.

Speaker 1 (43:37):
And that's to take care Of ben hitting the latest.

Speaker 3 (43:40):
Headlines it's our daily. Rundown, yeah, sorry jumping in a
little bit early.

Speaker 2 (43:45):
There how about this in college football, Yesterday greg McElroy
down In, atlanta he was on his show that he typically,
does McElroy and Cub lick in the, morning and he
talked about theotential Of Nick saban returning to coaching at
some point and then went on to talk With Paul

(44:08):
finebaum on The paul Finebaumb show and their coverage down,
There and this Is greg McElroy quoted as, saying, quote
this is a little bit out of left, field but
the question was asked of me a very much in
the know, person AND i have a lot of respect
for and have spent a lot of time around and
just really really. Admire they seem to Think Nick saban's

(44:31):
not done, coaching AND i had a similar. Reaction this
Is greg. Mclroy he's pretty adamant that he Thinks Nick
saban will be coaching. Again And greg McElroy continues to, Say,
look if it wasn't someone, Notable i'd never say.

Speaker 3 (44:47):
A word end. Quote so do we think That Nick
saban is going to be coaching once?

Speaker 2 (44:53):
Again part of me is, LIKE i, mean HE'S i
don't want to SAY i would, he but it's, like all,
right you've kind of closed that chapter and you've you
were a great head, coach and you run the risk
like there's something about to.

Speaker 3 (45:05):
Be said about going out on top that's, right? Right
what if you come?

Speaker 2 (45:08):
Back what if it just he goes to a program
and it doesn't work. Out but at the same, time
it's in his. Blood he's a, coach that's no. Doubts
AND i think the automatic reaction is Thinking Nick saban
and college.

Speaker 3 (45:18):
Coaching oh, DUDE i didn't even THINK.

Speaker 2 (45:20):
Nfl so my point would, be right, now we already
Know Nick saban is not happy with the landscape of
college athletics and everything that you would have to deal.
With SO i don't see any possibility of him coming
to back to college the way it is right. Now
maybe when things are you, know settled, down but that
might be another ten to fifteen years and then now

(45:40):
he's going TO i, think be too old at that.
Point but who's to Say Nick saban wouldn't entertain some
type OF nfl. POSITION i can because there is something
that he still has some things to prove in THE
nfl because based on everything that happened there In, Miami
so that will be.

Speaker 3 (45:58):
Interesting all. Right how about, This this is just.

Speaker 2 (46:00):
Some breaking news with The New York jets and cornerback
Salce gardner reached an agreement on a four, year one
hundred and twenty million dollars deal through twenty. Thirty and
that's according to sources Through Adam. Schefter the deal would
make Salce gardner the highest paid cornerback IN nfl.

Speaker 3 (46:20):
History, yeah, hey shut down Corner, yeah you got to have.
Them in THE. Nfl, yeah there's no, doubt all.

Speaker 2 (46:28):
Right Major League baseball Also Commissioner Rob Rob manfred has
said that large scale change is needed in baseball and
that The Major League Baseball Players, association their union, leadership
is not necessarily on, board and because of, That manfred

(46:51):
is taking things into his own hands and trying to
meet with individual players to present the league's case and
is quoted as, saying we need to energize the workforce end.

Speaker 3 (47:02):
QUOTE i think there's something to be said about.

Speaker 2 (47:04):
That oh, yeah get people believing in what your vision
is in hearing it directly through you as the, commissioner
and then having some buy, in then you've got much
better opportunity of getting league support because they can go
back to the union and, say, hey, no we want this.
Also so you represent, us and so you need to

(47:27):
be able to making sure putting us in the best possible,
position all. Right also breaking news out Of, Charlotte Major
League Soccer Commissioner Don garber is scheduled to be In
charlotte tomorrow and is expected to award the twenty twenty
Six Major League Soccer All Star game to The city Of.

(47:47):
Charlotte there At bank Of America stadium and our and
also Obviously CHARLOTTE.

Speaker 3 (47:53):
Fc well that's all you. Go how fantastic is that
for the city Of.

Speaker 2 (47:56):
Charlotte, YES i love that opportunity that you have that
and knowing that, again anytime you can have An All Star,
GAME i think there's something about just that opportunity and
how big that can. Be and that's why you Know
atlanta's being able to Celebrate Major League Baseball All Star
game there and how as fans you should go and

(48:20):
try to enjoy that viewing.

Speaker 3 (48:22):
Opportunity, now are you going.

Speaker 2 (48:24):
To be able to watch the Entire Major League Baseball
All Star? Game probably, not not unus you're a die
hard baseball, guy because there's also there's a lot of
guys THAT i don't think the casual fans even know
In Major League baseball right, now AND i think there's
a star power issue that we have seen as.

Speaker 3 (48:45):
Well so that's some.

Speaker 2 (48:47):
Of the latest headlines right here On The Richmond Weaver
show presented By Ingles markets And Just know tomorrow a
little programming know to also is that we will Have
Bobby powell on as a guest as we'll go inside
The ropes with Some Golf talk, tomorrow and he's the
tournament director of The Windham championship that's coming up in

The Stockholm, olympics and he would be named the greatest
athlete in the. World that's how much we put on
The olympics back in the. Day and if he didn't
win the decathline obviously ten events that you were the
man or you were the woman at that. Point And

(50:16):
Jim thorpe obviously a fantastic. Athlete and if you go
read some of the history Of Jim, THORPE i, mean
it's amazing what he was able to, accomplish again in
a time period where we didn't have, communication, RIGHT i,
mean it was so fragmented and it took so, long
But Jim thorpe was a fantastic. Athlete nineteen twenty, Seven

(50:37):
Bobby jones would win The British Open, championship the second
time he was able to do, that and again he
was just an amateur and it was his second.

Speaker 3 (50:46):
Straight and in two thousand.

And, Ten rory, McElroy at twenty one years old in
The British open in the opening round his first time,
playing he would be able to tie the record for
