Speaker 1 (00:00):
The game Takeover continues here on the Wednesday edition of
the Richmond Weavers Show, presented by Ingles Markets. Connor Shall
joining us here in studio, and now it's our privilege
to bring in head coach Shane Beemer of the South
Carolina game Cocks getting ready for the twenty twenty five season,
the big opening game against Virginia Tech on Sunday at

(00:20):
three pm against Virginia Tech down in Atlanta, Mercedes Benz Stadium.
Coach Biemer, thank you so much for joining us. We
greatly appreciate it. I know you're running one hundred miles
per hour.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
But what's the.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Vibe around the team right now game week? Heading into
this big weekend of college football.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
The vibe is excitement. Have been a long time. Preseason
camp is a grime. We don't get the scrimmage or
play against another team like most high schools do or
even pro teams, so it's a long month. But as
a college football player, you're only guaranteed twelve of these
a year, so there's great excitement about being able to

(00:58):
get out there on Sunday and go compete for the
first time this year.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Yes, sir, everybody's getting ready. I know, there's a lot
of excitement heading into this season, and now you've been
building this culture since twenty twenty one. What's some of
the biggest lessons that you've learned as head coach so
far heading into this team in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Uh one, I just think every year is different, and
I got to realize that no matter what happened the
year before, every season is a new season and roles change,
and you just can't assume that, Okay, things went well
the year before that they're just automatically going to go
well the next year. Learning that every years it's starting

(01:42):
over in so many ways, one because roles change, but
two because with the transfer portal, there's so many new
players year in year out that you know, for us,
for example, this year, I mean when we go to
Atlanta this weekend, I think we'll have twenty nine of
the I think we're taking about seventy five players to Atlanta,
and twenty nine of them it'll be their first game
ever in a South Carolina uniform. So realizing that no

(02:05):
matter what happened the year before, you're truly starting over
year to year.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Yeah, there's something with the landscape is different to here
in college football, college athletics, that's for certain. All right,
Connorshaw is here in studio with us.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
What's up, coach and Honor?

Speaker 3 (02:22):
How you doing it?

Speaker 4 (02:23):
I'm good man. I held you hostage for twenty minutes
probably too long last week at the Game Cap Sports preview,
so you're probably probably tired of me.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
But never, never, I should be interviewing you.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
Well, hey, coach, you mentioned you know each year's a
new year. You know, I know your core values very
well being on staff with you for a year, and
you know the makeup of who you are and how
you lead your team. You know you always pride yourself
and the team's probe themselves on being the toughest team
and the most connected team every time you walk on
the field on game day. So can you can you
talk a little bit about the camaraderie of your team

(02:56):
and the physicality of it going into Sunday.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Yeah, it's a big point of emphsis for us every year,
as you said, one being connected, and I think that's
harder to do nowadays in college athletics because of what
I just said, every year your roster is different. So
to me, the best teams are going to be the
ones that you know are close and connected, and I've
spent the most time with one another on and off
the field, and you have a short period of time

(03:20):
to do that from when you come back in January
until the season starts. But really like where our group is,
it's a fun group to be around. They are, you know,
very close and connected, and that'll continue to develop over
the year, over the season as well. And then certainly physicality,
I mean that's the name of the game in college football,
and I just believe that you just can't you know,

(03:42):
say that and think it's going to happen, like to me.
You got to be that way each and every day,
and you have to practice that way. And we talked
about it as a team this morning in our team meeting,
Connor and like and you know this, and this is
the disrespect any opponent, but I mean, we want our
practices in South Carolina on Tuesdays and Wednesday to be
more physical and harder than the games on Saturday. And

(04:04):
that's certainly you know how we practice, and we do
a lot of competitive things in practice, good on good
if you will, ones versus ones, whatever you want to
call it. And I think that's a big reason that
we have played our best football over the last four seasons.
In November, we were a team that continues to get
better as the season goes, and I believe that's directly
attributed to the way we practice.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Head coach Shane Beemer is joining us here on the
Wednesday edition of the Richmond Weavers Show, presented by Engles
Markets and also in studio South Carolina Hall of Famer
former quarterback at South Carolina Connorshaw and Coach Beemer. When
you look at Leonora Sellers and Connorshaw, I contend that
there's some similarities. What similarities do you see now? I know,

(04:47):
we know Leonora Sellers is a lot bigger than Connorshaw,
but there's something about just the dual threat capability for
both of those quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
Yeah, both really good athletes, There's no question about it.
Both can can run. You know, Leonoris is going to
run over you most of the time or run through
you or as Connor more of them and you make
you this type of guy, but had the competitive spirit
to run you over if he wanted to. But ultimately,
I just think they're both just great leaders and they're

(05:19):
fierce competitors that when the moment is bigger and the
lights come on. Something just clicks with those guys, and
you want those people on your team that when you
look at them, you look at that guy and say,
you know what, Everything's going to be all right. And
you felt that with Connor Shall as your quarterback, and
you certainly feel that now with Leonori's Sellers as our quarterback.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
For sure and coach heading into this season. I know
you've talked about pressures of privilege and expectations are not
a bad thing. It's good to have expectations and somewhat
being a target whatever it might be. As South Carolina
is continuing to climb in the national narratives as far
as teams to watch, but also how much are you

(06:04):
talking with the team about the mindset of hey, why
not us, why can't we go out there and compete
for a national championship?

Speaker 3 (06:12):
Very little, if any, to be honest with him, and
our guys know that our guys have high expectations and
they believe that as well. You know, maybe on the
outside people want to put a ceiling on what we
can accomplish, but not the players on our team. We
recruit players that have high expectations for themselves personally have
high expectations for the team to compete for championships. So

(06:36):
I don't need to you know, convince them that we can.
They believe that. You know. If anything, for me, it's
it's emphasizing to them making sure they understand the hard
work that goes into that. Just because we're ranked thirteenth
and just because we have you know, Leonora's Sellers returning,
I don't guarantee you anything like winning is hard. And

(06:57):
you know, we had six games last year that were
decided by you know, one score or less, and I
think we were three and three of them in them.
And we're playing a team this weekend in Virginia Tech
they had two three point losses last year and a
four point loss, and otherwise they're sitting there nine and
three and h and having, you know, an unbelievable season.

(07:19):
So just understanding what a hard fin line it is
and making sure they know that you have to earn
the right to go to go win on Saturdays or
Sunday in this case for certain.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
And then on the offensive side, the news just coming
out just recently that rasoul Fason is eligible ready to go.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
What type of impact does that have on.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Your offense a big one. Whether Sewell had been declared
eligible or not, we were going to play multiple you know,
running backs already. We really liked that running back room.
There's no question that we're that room overall is better
than what it was last year because we have depth
and we have multiple guys that I feel like we
can win sec football games with. But you know, Stool's

(08:03):
a guy that certainly brings a lot to the table.
He's great in pass protection, and he's good out of
the backfield catching the ball, and then he's really, you know,
a talented guy when the balls in his hands as
a runner. So he'll add to the depth in that
room and go along those other guys that we have
in there in that room also, which I'm really excited
about also.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
Coach before he came on, Rich and I we're talking
about a little bit of the makeup of the offense
and from Afar, you know, I love it because you're
able to jump into twelve personnel a good bit and
that helps with you know, with the committee of running
backs and obviously Leonoriss skill set to run the ball,
but also you know, you got some some weapons and
Nick Harbor and Masio and Jerry Brown and some others
to create some one on one matchouts. But feel like,

(08:43):
you know, y'all are built in this league. You better
be able to run the football, and it's nice to see,
you know, we're really deep at tight end and have
the capability to run the ball, but create some explosive
plays and some more than one matchups on the perimeter.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
Yeah. I like our group overall, just the makeup of it,
there's no question about it. You know, depth at running back,
as I just alluded to, We've we've certainly recruited well
on the offensive line and those guys are the best
version of themselves that they've been just because they're older
and they're a little bit more experienced now. And then
we have more depth at receiver than we've had in

(09:17):
the past. We've got different guys that we can throw
out there. And then certainly the tight end position. You
know what a big point of emphasis, our big focal
point of our offense. Josh Diamond was for us last
year at tight end lost helm. But when you look
at that room overall, with the guys that are returning,
the guys we've added, that's a group that that we
can get in the multiple tight end sets if we

(09:39):
want to. We can get into four wide receiver sets
if we want to. We can get into you know,
multiple running backs in the game if we want to.
Because we've got a really good skill set of players.
I feel like that that provide depth at all those
positions and allow us ultimately to to do what we
want to do, and that's to you know, run, run
the football and and dominate the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
Head coach Shane Biemer has been joining us here on
this Wednesday edition of the Richmond Weavers Show presented by
Engles Markets.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
Coach, we can't thank you enough.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
I know you've got to get to all types of
other things running one hundred miles per hour getting ready
for the big game against Virginia Tech.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
Best of luck to you, coach, and thank you so
much for joining us.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
You got it. Thanks for having me on. And you're
with Gamecock Royalty right there. That's makes you take care
of my man Connor up there as well, Yes.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Sir, we will make sure to do that.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
That is head coach of South Carolina Gamecock Football Shane
Beemer joining us here and Connor. One of the things
that we talked about this why not US mentality as
I'm asking coach Biemer that I actually I loved his response.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
He's like, what are you talking about? We already believe it. Yeah,
that's not even something we talk about.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
Well, it's pretty cool because this is year five for
him going into year five, and that's probably more of
an emphasis on why not US as a year one,
that's right, and recreating that belief like we're here for
a reason, we can do this here, we can win,
we can do things for the first time here South Carolina.
May be a reminder of why you chose to come
to this university. And then pretty cool to hear him

(11:10):
year five like I don't have to remind my guys exactly.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
I love that. I absolutely love that.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
And again, that just emphasizes South Carolina fans, you've got
your guy, you've got.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
Your guy, you've got the head coach.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
That Again, it doesn't mean necessarily national championship this year,
but you never know. I'm telling you, they've got the belief,
and it's almost that mentality to hell with the SEC schedule. Yeah,
we'll go out there and we'll just do the things
that we need to do as South Carolina game Cock
Football and go out there and win.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
And that's the mentality that you have to have.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
And I think that's pretty special and also very special, Connor,
that you joined us here in studio.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
I'd love to come back on man Oh any time.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
It is an open door for game Cock Royalty to
come walking through.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
I promise you it's a five minute walk from my
office across the street.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
You love it.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Yes, you are more than welcome. All Right, we're going
to continue this Wednesday edition of The Richmond Weaver Show
presented by Ingles Markets. We have much more college football
to talk about. Stay tuned right here to one O
